Just a Q to start off this thread with: High Tier [HT], why exactly did you guys move servers to FoW? The WvW there is quite crappy apart from your Guild.

Wow, way to start the matchup by offending everyone.

I can tell you that the WvW community in FoW has dedicated guilds and players. We may not have the numbers of some of the other servers, but we do great and hold our own usually.

Also, yes, [HT] is a great guild, but certainly not our only one.

Regardless, I missed the reset due to having to go to a birthday dinner but I am greatly looking forward to this new matchup (can’t remember if we’ve ever been paired against underworld?) and I am very eager to fight against you all, and I’ll assume the majority of the players on underworld aren’t as offensive

Why no love for melee?

I run with S/D for melee and A/T for my “ranged” attacks, though they’re all used for their conditions and are swapped between as much as I can.

With the S/D I rarely use the sword 1 attack (I turn off auto attack since I usually roam solo and it’s better for 1vs1s) unless my other skills are on cooldown or I need the lunge attack to chase a quickfooted opponent.

Honestly, the ranger melee weapons seem like one of the most “active” of all the classes to me.

You don’t need to do fractals anymore, since the receipes were changed so you need Bloodstone now instead of the mist stuff.

And even else, why does the item with the lowest number of stats needs mats that cost more than double the price of a weapon ?

Oh, yeah, I completely forgot they changed it. My mistake. Even so, the pricing is still comparable.

As for comparing them to the weapons, I’m afraid I have no solid answer for that. Probably so people wouldn’t just flat out stop making the mystic forge back items.

Yea so I looked to see what it would take/cost over 200 gold …… Are u mad? Anet either wants to buy a lot of gems or play/farm. Wow looks like I won’t be making it any time soon.

It’s meant to be a way to get an ascended back piece without having to do fractals for vials of mist essences.

Plus, I’m not sure where you’re getting your costs from. At 500 crafting, your only costs will be the icy runestones and whatever materials you haven’t gathered. So around 70g for the back piece if you buy the materials if I’m not mistaken. About the same as making a mystic forge back piece if you buy the materials.

Anet has the tools to deal with people who break their forum rules. Ban repeated offenders.

Group punishment of the majority, who have not infringed, is a crude and fundamentally unfair response.

Pretty much my thoughts exactly. Why not just forum ban the aggressive posters instead of potentially having to delete “matchup” topics that will be placed in the WvW discussion board?

I’m sorry Anet, I know you are disappointed by the actions of, frankly, the minority of GW2 players that break your rules, but you are punishing those of us that abide by your rules and just want to use the matchups to discuss great battles and get to know our opponents.

WvW needed that community feel that the matchup forums gave us, taking it away will make WvW seem strangely disconnected.

And no, I am not going to sign up for a reddit account or sign up for random, potentially unsecured websites to discuss current matchups.

I am genuinely disappointed in your logic for this decision, and truly hope you change your minds.

WvW Rank Points refunds after S1?

They never said anything about a refund after season 1.
In fact they even said that the refund before might be the only one we ever got.

I wanted a reset so I could change my traits back to a small group/roaming set up.

For the season, I changed them so I could be more useful to my server since we were being matched with servers that outnumbered us greatly (needed ram mastery, supply mastery, build mastery etc)

Why pick a class because its the best… How boring

I can tell you it makes it all the more satisfying to stomp people in WvW, knowing that 2 minutes ago they looked at you are thought “ooh a free lootbag”.

Pretty much this. In WvW, the majority of players I see use longbows, and they are awfully squishy.

Most players online underestimate a good ranger. The only classes you might struggle with is condi-mesmers and condi-necros, the rest are entirely beatable.

As a ranger, warriors and guardians are often the easiest to take down. Thiefs usually take a lot of effort, but they can be the most fun to fight.

If you want to try a ranger, go for it. If you can get into the way the class fights then you’ll be great in WvW (yes, even in zergs) you can solo camps, towers and possibly keeps (I’ve only done that along with an uplevelled warrior so it wasn’t quite solo!)

It should be random now, not based on relative strength. What did upset the color change balance however was the season 1 – for some reason it seems most (if not all, though i’m not 100% sure about that) servers remained the same color throughout the whole season. Add to that some unlucky rng before and after, and you end up with over 2 months of not getting that one color you need.

It’s not random, and for good reason. Tactically, the green keep in EB is the hardest to defend (strongest server in the matchup is placed here), red is the easiest to defend (weakest server in the matchup is here)

OP, there are 3 things you can try.

1 – Try to get your server to take the places you need.
2 – Wait until you get matched with different servers and hope that you change colour.
3 – Transfer to another server. It was free before the season to transfer to a medium population server.

Why am i lagging

Lately I’ve been getting the same issues, the last few patches seem to have made WvW and Lions Arch very laggy.

In WvW I used to get lag spikes during very large zerg fights but now they seem to occur in smaller fights or even when I’m just wandering.

Lions Arch seems to have broken due to the Wintersday stuff lying around, lag spikes everywhere, but whilst this may be due to the increased number of people around, it didn’t seem to be an issue in other updates (hallowe’en etc)

I don’t have a gaming rig or anything, just a modest old laptop, but this hasn’t been an issue before.

So, I just fought an upscaled WSR thief that could go invisible every 2-3 seconds and teleport seemingly far distances. The hell was that?

I was under the assumption that they nerfed the thieves invisible prowess but this guy seemed to vanish more than any thief I’ve fought before.

Good thing the only time he killed me was when another (real) thief helped him, haha. I’d be worried if thieves like him that could also do damage started appearing.

For power/crit-based, look into a longbow build. It has high damage (more with this new patch) and you wont have to rely on your pets as much.

If you don’t want to be an easy target, go with a bunker build. I use xsorus’s BM bunker (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ev3rPPF28JE he also has an updated build and various roaming solo videos) and I can honestly say that I win the majority of my fights 1 vs 1 and the occasional 1 vs many if I’m against less skilled opponents.

As for durability/healing/movement, they are not an issue for me, I heal faster than most classes with high healing power and troll unguent and can outdodge most other classes.

Anyway, give it a try. Hope it works out for you.

I’ve had a ranger main since starting GW2 and have had no issues in fights both close range and distance.

Yes, the ranger lacks in some aspects, the pet can be buggy and Anet keeps nerfing us, but we work.

I seriously don’t understand the negativity towards the ranger class. We work amazingly in PvE, PvP, and WvW.

I work fine in a dungeon (yes, other classes can be more efficient, but we do work) and can zerg in WvW with the best of the other classes and have my pet and I survive through it.

I’m a little biased since Engie is my main so take this with a grain of salt. When I go up against a ranger in WvW I have NO fear of losing.At all. If they had the option to put the pet away ranger might be decent in PvE.

It’s funny, as a ranger, I feel the same way when I face an engineer in a 1v1 fight in WvW.

Don’t get me wrong, a skilled engineer is hard to kill, but they are so few and far between due to how complex the class is.

As for rangers, most players I find online seem to use a longbow and they don’t tend to last long in a fight (which is where I’m assuming most people get the “free lootbags” idea from) but a skilled ranger with the right build will win most fair fights.

For the OP, use engineer if you are good at swapping utilities and using the function buttons efficiently and don’t want to watch out for a pet. Or use a ranger if you don’t mind managing a pet and just want to focus on weapon skills and dodging.

Perma Stealth Needs To Go

I honestly feel like I’m the only person who mains a thief that welcomes these “nerfs”. Too long have I dealt with these annoying permastealthers, I can’t wait to see how they play now that they can’t just stealth and run away whenever they desire

A non-permastealth thief is one of the most fun (and if played by a skilled player, most challenging) classes to fight 1 vs 1.

Permastealth thiefs just annoy me, you can’t kill them if they’re played properly, they can just run away from any battle whenever they want, and if you choose to walk away and ignore them, they can sneak up on you and use high damaging backstabs. A massive time waster.

I seriously welcome the change and look forward to seeing more “skilled” thiefs appearing on the battlefield. Please note that I like fighting thiefs and in no way am I saying that all thiefs aren’t skilled, but in my view, people abusing the stealth are as bad as button mashers in fighting games. “Hey, if I press jump and kick repeatedly, I just win every time, lulz”

Yeah, that’s what I figured. A bit unfortunate considering the lack of a time-frame for both EoTM and season 2.

Although I’d imagine they would have to reset the points on a merger considering many people will have overlapping spent points (2 characters with ram mastery for example)

Possible WXP point reallocation?

I’m wondering if there will be a WXP point reallocation anytime soon?

At the start of the season we were given the chance to reset the points to prepare for the season so I reallocated my points to better serve my server if we were against overly-difficult opponents (ram mastery, supply mastery, build mastery and so forth) But now that the season is over, I’d prefer to change back to a smallscale setup.

Any answers or hints are welcome, else I guess I’d have to wait until the EoTM map comes out.

While I think an Ascended would have been a bit much… A really cool glow effect added to a piece or armor or a WvW skin for an armor piece or a special weapon skin would have been in line.

Like I said, the meta should have been made harder to accommodate a better reward and thus make WvW an acceptable game mode for gaining gear, but only during seasons.

But I would have been happy with a unique skin. Perhaps a cape/cloak back piece for everyone and one with “1st” "2nd “3rd” emblazoned on the back of it for the winners.

Nope – these rewards would have been way out of scale.

It did not take 7 weeks to make this achievement – two-three days at most for a couple of hours work in WvW. The rewards were correct and balanced.

I look at this as a something you could work towards over 7 weeks of play – just like a living story achievement which most players get within the first two days.

If you re-read my post, I also state that the meta should have included an achievement that could only be completed by playing WvW for at least 40 days out of the 49 to justify getting the armour.

Whilst some people may think that an ascended set may be too much, look at it this way. You play PvE, you earn plenty of gold, lots of materials and can get plenty of dragonite ore for making ascended weapons and armour. But if you play WvW primarily, there is almost no way you’ll have enough materials or money to make a set of anything without doing PvE as well.

~2 months of PvE will no doubt get you enough materials and gold for a set of armour, why not the same for ~2 months of WvW?

Again, I know the meta could be completed in 3-4 days, I’m saying they should have added a “time invested” achievement in it, to justify better rewards.

kitten son, I’d be happy with a single piece of ascended anything.

I had thought about saying one piece, but with an unknown time frame between seasons and the seasons themselves lasting 7 weeks. A full set made more sense.

And I know that feeling, I play mostly WvW and it takes me weeks of effort to make a single weapon (if I even bother with the grind) and I am dreading the crafting costs for armour.

Whilst I was slightly disappointed by the lack of a skin that most metas award, I couldn’t help but think there was something they could have easily done to make most WvW players (and PvE players) happy.

Ascended armour. So close to release on Tuesday, it would have been a nice reward for 7 weeks of play. Here’s how.

They should have had a daily achievement for taking a tower, and within the meta had an achievement “Complete tower daily 40 times” bear with me for a second.

If they made it this way, players would have to log into WvW and take part in some form for about ~80% of the days of the season, (didn’t want to say 100% and alienate people that had an issue one or two days of the season, though the percentage could be changed up or down depending on how Anet wanted to do it) which is easy for a WvW player and would make PvE players get slightly more involved on a daily basis instead of logging in, completing the meta in 4 days and leaving forever.

So this, plus doing the meta would equate to at least 40 days work for a set of ascended armour, legitimizing WvW as a source of gear but at a cost of putting in daily effort. This is pretty simple for WvW players, and easily doable by everyone else if they put in the effort.

Another bonus of this would have been that everyone would have had a fair chance of gaining the armour, so nobody could have complained about the imbalance of rich players having better gear. And with the chance of getting another set next season, new players and old ones with alts would have had a chance of a set later on.

Just something that’s been rummaging through my mind so I felt like I should write it down.

that would be a real kick in the teeth to people that didn’t finish the achievement…to get a chest in the mail and not be able to open it?? wow…

I imagine it will be a popup chest just like other achievement chests.

Well, if it was just going to be like the achievement chests then the key would be pointless.

I was under the assumption that everyone on the server would be mailed a chest with a summary of the season “Congrats” or “Try harder next time” etc. And if you got the key, you can open it. If you don’t have the key, it’ll be an incentive perhaps “Stupid locked chest, I’ll get you open next season”

I’m just hoping the reward is good. My wishful side is hoping for a full set of ascended armour considering they’re releasing them on Tuesday. It would make playing WvW a viable way to earn competitive equipment, instead of relying on PvE.

The borderlands water area is now a bunch of ruins with master cannons for defense. Instead of a big loch, it’s more land with varying heights, made for some interesting fights.

I’m not sure I’d like a new map, it would mean the bigger servers with higher populations gaining a bigger lead over smaller servers. Changes to current maps wouldn’t be too bad.

Also, the WXP skills like “guard killer” or “ram mastery” has changed a fair bit, and they’re planning on adding more/changing them up in the near future so that kind of counts for the WvW specific skills area you mentioned.

Oh! I get it haha. Hmmmm. That should work also I suppose. But what if they left? Can the remaining members invite someone? What if they invited another person from another server?

The guild would change depending on what server you are currently on. So if you transfer, you are kicked from the old guild and inserted into the new one.

Since it’s all automatic, there wouldn’t be any inviting to the guild. So the only thing players can do is deposit or withdraw (with commander status) items from the bank.

It’s a lot of work, but theoretically, it would work.

I am proposing a more “permanent” thing that would be always there and could prolly encourage more wvwvw players round the clock.

I was suggesting Anet should create the guild and make everyone on the server a member, that way it’s always there regardless of people leaving and there isn’t the issue of people not “joining”. Also, they’d have to make it so the commanders can’t delete the guild, we can’t have that kind of loophole there!

The WvW season league was a pretty big change, whilst it may have been unbalanced, long and we’re not sure what the reward will be (fingers crossed it’s something good after 7 weeks) I did enjoy getting easy achievements for doing WvW.

Those achievements tempted some PvE players into trying WvW, some may have stayed. Although, many players also left WvW due to some unfair match-ups. I think it will balance itself out and season 2 should be much better.

WXP is becoming account bound soon, which will be more alt-friendly and make players more effective.

The easiest way to do what you want is to have everyone on the server belong to a server guild (I’m in FoW so there would be a Fissure of Woe server guild, for example)

Everyone would have rights to deposit things in the guild bank whilst only commanders can withdraw siege (should be possible for them to give people with the tag the rights automatically)

Of course, there would be the issue of griefing or greedy commanders, but as a community pool, I’m sure the players themselves will try to dissuade their commanders from doing so. Though, a report system for abusers might help.

You can, as before, represent this guild or your own guild. Being able to represent your server as a “guild” makes the game, especially WvW, feel more like “guild wars” in my opinion.

I leved a Ranger to 80 and would love to try some WvW with him.
Could you guys suggest a few good builds for small scale roaming? I’m kind of new to gw2 so I’m having trouble coming up with a good one.

I’m slightly late to the topic but you should look into a BM bunker build (look up xsorus on youtube or in the forums here) it works fine in a zerg, you have plenty of evades, water field, fire field for might, axe 1 attack hits multiple enemies, plenty of health regen.

It’s stupidly easy to solo camps and entirely possible to solo towers (I’ve taken an undefended keep with an uplevelled warrior friend so with skill it might be possible to solo those, too)

With ram mastery and your health regen, it’ll take multiple enemies and/or multiple ACs to kill you. You’ll be able to shrug off single AC fire.

In a 1v1 fight, I realistically win 7 or 8/10 of my fights. I only really have issues with good necromancers or great condi-mesmers. (they are few and far between but they are tough) and if you are outnumbered, you can still win if the opponents are of lower skill level than you or they mess up.

And as you can see from some of the comments above, a lot of people think rangers are bad in WvW and will underestimate you during a fight, use that to your advantage and you’ll have a lot of fun fighting.

Account bound WXP

I don’t wanna make you sad, but this will probably what they tell you. Kind your own fault of deleting a lvl 80. You knew the drill back then.

The drill back then was “We’ll never change it to account wide WXP”, that changed after I deleted my character.

I’m well aware that hoping that they have statistics for account earned WXP (it’s entirely possible that they keep track of this behind the scenes, by the way) is perhaps too hopeful, but “All earned World XP on an account will be put into a single pool.” did sound like that’s what they had.

I wouldn’t make a fuss either way, I just wanted to know so that I could plan my builds based on how many WXP points I would have.

How can we defend against this. I got a f***ing job I can’t stay up all night to defend…

Maybe we should recruit some amercan guilds to our server to hold at night.

To be fair, FoW usually has more numbers during the week and when we’re being outnumbered by other servers (kudos to Vabbi and more so to WSR for pulling those zergs out of the magic hat, kitten ed impressive) our night teams work extremely hard to try pull us ahead a bit.

Whilst I’m sure we do have some American players, I can safely say that we also have many European players that play late at night. I myself have done it a few times (not this week though) and I have to get up at 6-7 am with my daughter the next day.

I’d leave the camp, dolyaks and sentries, increase invader kills to 1000 sounds good.

Adding to that, they already have events for defending towers/keeps etc, so it shouldn’t be too hard to add “Defend towers and keeps 300 times” as an achievement.

On the queue issue, was it not free to transfer to a medium population server? I know a lot of people wouldn’t transfer because of server pride and other reasons, but the option to change so that you don’t have to queue was there.

Haha, amusingly that’s the one achievement I didn’t even bother with, it seemed like too much of a waste of time. I decided to spend that time taking towers, keeps, camps, zerging, sentry killing, dolyak butchering…

That and sentries, I’m about 12 off from doing that one, probably finish it by the end of the week, but since I got the key there isn’t any pressure.

i’m not about to do a jumping puzzle tho O.o never been to OS, never will

Apart from one jump puzzle where a server spent an entire day camping it, the JPs took me less than an hour to do (all 3, the 4th took me a day, technically)

You’re actually doing dolyak and sentries? Man, even the merc camp would be easier than nailing 200 dolyaks.
I wish they didn’t attach a chest to that one. I will forever be slightly annoyed.

Merc, sent, and dolyaks were the three I decided to not even try for. I even ended up getting Demolisher on accident and I’m still 150 dolyaks away from completion!

The dolyak one was surprisingly easy, took a couple of days, probably would have been faster if I had used my ranger (perfect for soloing camps)

I haven’t done the sentry one mainly because I kept forgetting about it, usually I don’t bother with sentries unless I’m in a zerg and they wander into it. (not too often)

I want a title of its own for the merc camp achievement given that there were only 3 in eb (bl’s were replaced by bloodlust) only 2 were really feasible to cap solo / small party roaming and there were 50 of them (which i did over a few day period) and really that’s numerically 100 if you end up flipping it back to neutral then capping.

I think the only ones I had to go out and get last week were yaks, camps, guards, and merc camps, I got everything else just by playing.

Haha, amusingly that’s the one achievement I didn’t even bother with, it seemed like too much of a waste of time. I decided to spend that time taking towers, keeps, camps, zerging, sentry killing, dolyak butchering…

That and sentries, I’m about 12 off from doing that one, probably finish it by the end of the week, but since I got the key there isn’t any pressure.

Most difficult living world achievement

Honestly, I hope they don’t extend the time or make it easier.

This living story achievement group was for the WvW orientated players and it was much needed.

For people that play primarily WvW, having to leave that environment to go play PvE for the achievements is much more of a hassle, so having our own version at the same time was rather refreshing. Keep in mind that PvE players have had 2-3 living story achievement groups in the time that we’ve had this one season.

Plus, for players that play WvW for an hour or so a day, it wasn’t too difficult to complete the meta, I play a few hours a day and managed to complete the meta in less than a week (had to keep my lovely key locked away for 6 weeks!)

Whilst I am on a lower populated server and queues not being an issue for me, some of the matchups prevented me from capturing SM and doing some of the other things that would award achievements (I say “would have” because I had completed them all in the first week when it was an easy matchup) so I can see why it would be difficult for some, but 7 weeks was more than enough time to complete the meta if people focused on it.

Maybe a little, yes. But in fairness, I deleted him with the knowledge that his WXP was useless in the long run, but if it can be salvaged now that WXP is account bound then I could afford an extra mastery or two for siege weapons so I can help my server even more than I do now.

Might even help me get over the fact that I forgot to use his skill points up before deleting him, haha. A few hundred down the drain. At least I made 15-20 gold off of deleting him.

Targeting Clones please explain

The mesmer relies on tricking you into attacking it’s illusions as their main method of defense.

When fighting a mesmer you should be using the mindset of “I’m fighting 4 people”, using tab to change targets when fighting 4 people just doesn’t work, you have to click on the target you want.

It’s not that much more effort, you use your mouse to move your screen around (or at least, you should be. Keyboard turning is not efficient) so the mouse should already be hovering around the centre of the screen, making it easy to click on the person you want to attack.

On the off chance that Devon is still reading this thread I’ll copy/paste my comment from another thread.

“All earned World XP on an account will be put into a single pool.”
I’m curious as to whether or not they’re going to include the WXP earned by characters that have been deleted.
For example, I had a level 80 human warrior that I played a bunch of WvW with but decided he looked terrible and much preferred the charr equivalent and created a new warrior. I just deleted the human just over a fortnight ago since he was just wasted space.
I’ll certainly feel slightly annoyed if his WXP didn’t count. But then again, it would technically be my fault for deleting him.
That said, I am definitely looking forward to this change. Might even put a little guard leech on my ranger… Sweet, sweet condition damage.

Drakkar does have players who are up to a 1vs1 fight (ofcourse). Happened to bump into one at random yesterday. We fought for a while and when I finaly got downed he/she did not stomp me. Makes me think that the fight was appreciated.

Those are always the best duels, I had no idea it was good etiquette to let the opponent live until an amazing d/d ele from Vabbi let me live a few weeks ago after thrashing my warrior.

anyway in the last two weeks facing up against RoS

didnt meet not one single fight face 2 face
against any RoS
and u guys whine ? about What ?

I have to say, I’ve had that experience with Drakkar this week, I don’t think I’ve seen a single one out of their zerg. (Though I’m sure someone probably has)

The other day there I ran into a Surmia zerg and legged it out of there only to be chased by three of them, but to my surprise, only one attacked me whilst the others watched. After I bested him, the next came and then the third and honestly, I couldn’t have been happier – not because I won, but because they chose to fight me one-on-one instead of outnumbering me.

So to those RoS players, thanks – I had fun.

I figured that since Orr was already in the game they could allow:
“Juvenile Orrian Chicken” – 3 seconds of Torment on single target.
“Juvenile Orrian Gorilla” – Ground smash, knockback 3 targets around pet.
(they may even be able to work it so there are “living” versions)

Southsun Cove also provides the possibility for a great pet:
“Juvenile Karka” – 2 stacks of area weaken.

I’m sure a lot of you are tired of hearing these requests and I’m also sure that this has probably been posted before but try to hear me out.

With all of the complaints and worries about the fairness off these weapons in WvW, plus the grind it takes to craft them (it may be possible to make them easily enough, but for most, it is a grind), I suggest that the crafted ascended weapons (and armour in future) be made soulbound on equip instead of account bound, the same as almost every other item in game.

If you think about it, there is almost no reason to have them account bound on creation:-

-It stops people from building items for friends and guildmates (preventing small guilds and people with little time from building these items)

-It prevents crafters from making any profit from these items and making people only actually build a small handful of them each. This makes crafting more of a “one time” thing, instead of something people will want to do for profit or fun.

-Almost the same as above, since people will want the ascended weapons, exotic weapons in the marketplace will not be bought, forcing people to lower their prices considerably and ruin the market.

-Whether people min/max or not, they want the best stats they can get, it’s natural for people to stab something in the face and think “Hmm, I want to stab it HARDER” forcing people to either craft, cutting into their usually killing time or live with a weapon that isn’t as good.

I’ve read many times that they cannot be sold because they’d ruin the market, I say that they’d just help it evolve a bit. The market wont be swarmed with these ascended weapons since they’ve already got certain materials time-gated, limiting the amount that can be crafted daily.

I’m sure someone will have counter arguments for this and possible hatred for what I’ve written, but I thought it important to voice my opinion.

p.s. TL;DR – Make ascended crafting tradable and sellable so that people aren’t forced into content and stop people from complaining about the unbalance of WvW due to the “rich/poor divide”

Of course it’s annoying. So’s being ganked by a thief, or steamrolled by a lucky warrior, or whatever. I really don’t see how it’s OP or must be changed.

In my opinion, it’s slightly unfair as an elementalist can stay near the door to a tower or keep, hurling their attacks and if they’re downed, can go through the door, get picked up and go back out to attack again – creating a circle of immortality.

Do you not think it unfair that the other classes cannot escape death like that? I don’t mind the ability itself, but having it used so that you cannot simply chase after the opponent and finish them off when they de-mist is rather frustrating when it happens multiple times.
