Psssh, the free gear you get as a level up reward will be enough for level 80 endgame zones.
You don’t get a full set of exotics with the stats you may need through the level up rewards.
It’s good for general PvE, but this is meant as an “Endgame” zone as you said so you’ll want to have the right gear and the best gear you can afford.
You’re not the only one who said it, though. I didn’t mean to single you out. Sorry if it came across that way.
Not at all! It was just since I was the latest person to use the term before your comment, I felt I should at least clarify what I meant slightly.
All these people “mastering” classes within an hour make me laugh. Most people think they’re great drivers too.
As one that said that, I did put it in quotation marks to imply mastering it in a dulled down sense.
I merely mean that within the hour I’ll be able to use the class mechanics, the skills and weapons with ease and be able to go into the jungle or WvW and be able to fight like normal.
Actually mastering the class to the fullest with combos and having a proper skill rotation takes weeks.
Its my main. Minions are a pretty big issue with the profession. They are extremely buggy. Some skills don’t track properly, but that issue is shared between other professions as well.
Ah yes, I tried them once and couldn’t find a use for them in my playstyle so I didn’t look into them much. I did hear about their lack of good AI but always likened it to that of the Ranger pet (my main) but with less positional control.
But if I may nitpick slightly, just because one part of the Necromancer doesn’t work well and is buggy, doesn’t mean they’re in a bad place balance-wise. I play WvW a lot and regularly see both condition and power Necromancers hold their own and completely overwhelm opponents of various other classes.
I’m not saying they’re perfect or that they can’t be improved a lot, but for balance as a whole, they’re not bad.
I’ll have to say no to that, too.
I’ve played the game long enough and with enough classes and build varieties to know that I’ll be able to “master” the Revenant within an hour. The class itself doesn’t look so confusing that you’ll see many of them failing to play because of a lack of skill.
You’ve got to remember that most of the people that will have enough tomes to instantly get to 80 will have at least played for long enough to know not to stand in AoE and to use some skills other than spamming 1.
The “new tech” will be applied to new skills and traits, they’ve stated that the new specialisations for the base classes will also be utilising the new tech.
No word on if old skills and traits will be changed to adapt to it, but I doubt they’ll rework the base classes at all since they’re in a relatively balanced state.
Necromancers are not balanced. Not in any sense of the word. We are an absolute mess. Completely and thoroughly. We’re too good when we’re good and horrendous when we are bad. Half our skills don’t even work properly and we have nothing we particularly excel at over another profession.
I did say “relatively”, the Necro has some builds that work. I personally haven’t had any issues with my Necromancer but I haven’t tried many builds with him so I couldn’t say it’s perfect.
Im curious about axe 4 for revenant as i see possible exploit there in wvw. If it does work like axe 3 on warrior where you can throw it to hit someone on the wall, revenant will also have that possibility, but unlike some joke cripple, he will teleport on the wall behind target. If there inst anything to that prevent situation i will have a lot of fun in the future
It’ll probably work like most shadowsteps in the game, it won’t work on enemies on top of walls in towers and keeps.
I’ll be doing both. Thanks for the POI I have a build set up already for the Revenant to start with (assuming they don’t make any wild changes and that the unknown trait lines and specialisation don’t catch my eye more) so I’ll be able to jump straight into the jungle with an instant level 80, fully built Rev.
I see projectiles getting a slight buff to get in line with the Revenant 100% (but slow moving) proj. finisher on auto attack.
The concern is that will the old classes still be balanced in the new balance state with their specializations and the revenant.
I’d love to see the projectile combos getting the 100% buff, it would give using those combos in a fight more use, rather on relying on luck.
I’d imagine they would be balanced, none of the “new techs” are strictly OP. The ability to bind skills to the player characters forward direction and change the screen perspective for certain skills being the main ones they showed are mostly just new varieties of old skills (forward facing shield is just a perspective based block so it’s better for group support but worse than a standard block if you get shot from behind) and aesthetically pleasing (the skill that lets you "teleport to target and warp back and uses a new camera angle to show the skill).
If I had to guess I’d say it would be either Vulnerability or Torment.
Wilder speculation would be for them to implement Agony specifically as a counter to it for when it’s corrupted, to give it more of a risk when using it.

There’s a post similar to this in the first half of the first page.
We don’t know, not confirmed or denied.
The word here to note is ‘similar’. It’s not ‘identical’ to said gw1 name, therefore it shouldn’t be changed and nothing was wrong in the first place.
/thread
But Unyielding Anguish was a resurrection move, it’s not similar to this skill at all.
OP is right, Shadow Smash is the original version of this move as it does almost exactly what this move does.
I didn’t say it was hard.
I’m talking about possible new boss encounters with an enhancement on movement and positioning compared to what’s already in the game.
You didn’t, but you did say we (or the pets themselves) had little control. I felt I should clarify that we had plenty of control if you’re actively moving the pet.
And the boss fight shown in POI didn’t seem to have too much more AoE than some bosses already in game, the Molten Boss Fractal comes to mind, you have to dodge knockbacks and fire AoE on the ground in there, too.
Edit²: I have to confess… Bigtony and I are the ones behind the Revenant’s concept.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/lore/Class-Sugg-Let-s-fight-fire-with-fire/first#post4463086hmm I doubt that they came up with the idea only 4 months ago, seems more like a really big coincidence to me.
If this was legit, I’d wonder how crazy development of new stuff looks like at Anet.
In the latest POI they say they’ve been working on the Revenant since the start of Guild Wars 2 development.

The water attunement and trait line deals with heals primarily anyway so it would be kind of pointless having a second.
And technically a lot of Ele builds focus on them being the group healer anyway (in WvW mostly) so I doubt there would be too many complaints if it were to happen.
Obviously.
That doesn’t change the fact that certain classes cough rangers cough are dragging braindead AIs with them, with little control over their movement and positioning.
Not saying they won’t adress this. I’m saying that they have to adress this. And by adressing this, I’m referring to their AI movement.
I main a Ranger and it’s not too hard to keep the pets out of boss AoE since it’s usually in a specific area and you can move your pet using the F3 (call pet back to Ranger) to kite the pet out of danger manually.
Seems everybody is making a big deal about the fact they were so big on avoiding the targeting of that Wyvern. I don’t get it. Seems everybody missed the fact that they did target it for a few seconds, and frankly I don’t see anything special. Am I missing something? All I see is a shield icon, mention that it breaths fire and does knock backs (both obviously seen in game play)
I think the “don’t target it” was “don’t hit it.” They probably didn’t want to show some detail of the fight that’s only apparent then.
Someone on reddit (I think?) pointed out that when the Wyvern was using it’s large attack, its new “Defiance bar”s shield icon is red instead of the filled bars blue. It’s likely they wanted to avoid showing that.
I would love it but it probably won’t happen. Many ‘different’ weapons in the game are actually the same weapons but with a different color.
For example:
The Dark Asuran/Glyphic weapons, same weapons different color.
The Golden Wing/Human T3 weapons, again same weapons, different color.
And there are more weapons like that in the game.I’m not saying it will never happen, but it probably won’t anytime soon.
But if it did, that would be amazing. It would be so much easier to fit weapons with your armor.
In fairness, certain armour skins have less dye slots so it’s possible that they could add dyeable weapons and just limit the dye options for certain skins or even remove the ability to dye certain weapons entirely (legendaries).
Since the stability change is coming out sooner than the expansion pack by the sounds of it, adding that change in a feature pack along with dyeable weapons and other quality of life changes would be nice.
I don’t know why you would have thought the release would be spring/summer when all the evidence points to fall. The biggest piece of evidence is the earnings report saying they expect massive income in Q3 2015.
That report was a huge guess from a third party company, they’ve made similar guesses that turned out wrong before.
None of us have any idea how far along the expansion is in development. Don’t you think if they were releasing it in spring they would have announced the exact date by now? Besides, you saw how unfinished the Revenant was. And they haven’t showed us anything more than the 1 tiny section of the new map where the snipers hang out on the hill. It’s pretty obvious we have many long months of waiting ahead of us.
No, they said they’d announce a release date after the beta testing, which is coming very soon after the PAX East and Ressed cons.
The Revenant is more finished than they showed in the POI gameplay, they even say in it that they’re just showing some of it but have more finished.
They’re just showing one part of the map to stop potential spoilers from appearing. I personally would rather not see much of the new map when they’re showing the new features so when I play on it myself I get to keep the wonder and adventure of seeing it first hand.
If you want to know which quarter they expect it to be released in just read NCSoft’s financial projections for this year.
That’s just an expectation of the parent company, it could release before. The devs stated the release date depends on how the beta goes.
I’d imagine the specialisation deep dives will come out in one chunk since they’ll likely want it to come out before their PAX East playable demo.
Assuming we will have access to specializations in the playable demo. It may as well be that we will have access only to the Revenant.
That is entirely possible, but since it’s a major feature I can’t imagine them leaving it out of the playable demo that everyone will be watching.
If they maintain giving out one piece of info a week then we have at least 12 weeks to wait.
9 weeks of specializations
WVW borderland
Guild Halls
Masteries (what they gave us so far was barely anything)
Trait revampThen you have various levels of beta tests which will hopefully take at least 1-2 months…yeah I’m not expecting anything before August.
I’m guessing we’ll probably get a WvW tournament in there somewhere and another festival like this one and a lot of nothing.
I’d imagine the specialisation deep dives will come out in one chunk since they’ll likely want it to come out before their PAX East playable demo.
As for the beta, I can’t imagine them having the beta lasting more than a week or two, possibly even just two lots of weekends with changes being made in between. All going well after the first lot of changes, they’ll release sooner. If more bugs are found, another weekend of beta, more changes and then release when it’s fixed.

that_shaman said he has datamined new faces and hairstyles. Hopefully they will be out before the HoT.
I knew he had datamined them, but did he ever post them? I haven’t spotted them anywhere yet.
I just read through his posts, he said a bunch (21 or so) new faces and hairstyles have been added to the files but he can’t render the hairs since some of the textures are missing from the files.
it doesn’t transfer, it copies them. so if you have 5 stacks of bleed and 3 stacks of torment, once every 3 seconds you’ll give your enemies 5 stacks of bleed and 3 stacks of torment, but you’ll still have those stacks on you.
Good correction, I’m so tired I didn’t even realise I was typing ‘transfer’ instead of ‘copy’!
It’s all condition on you every few seconds.
At about 36:15
It won’t be as overpowered as you’d think as the conditions transferred only last 3 seconds each instead of the duration on the Revenant at the time, so you’ll need to stay near the enemy and keep pulsing the ability to keep the conditions on.
thanks for that, it’s been tormenting me forever, and no one would link me a source >.>
No worries!
The skills on the right half of your bar are tied to the legend which you are currently invoking.
Lets see if I can phrase this unambiguously:
When I am invoking Bob the Mighty, will I have a Bob-themed pool of skills to choose from when filling out my right-hand tray, or does channeling Bob the Mighty give me an absolutely specific set of 5 skills without variation from any other Revenant invoking Bob?
I realize the answer may be different for buttons 6 and 0 than it is for buttons 7, 8, & 9.
That is not set in stone yet and something we are deciding still.
for the record, while it’s very possible that you’ll lose some stuff when you specialize, they have yet to confirm (or deny) that specializations lose something in exchange for their new stuff.
every time they talk about specializations, they only say they have things the base class doesn’t, but never say anything about a reason to not specialize, or why you’d want to toggle it off. plus, the only specialization we’ve seen clear footage of is the druid, which still has the ranger core mechanic intact, as far as we can tell.
http://www.pcgamer.com/guild-wars-2-heart-of-thorns-interview/#page-2
“Some of them will change an existing profession, some of them might give them entirely new profession abilities and remove other ones. It really varies specialisation to specialisation, but it really should feel like you are playing a new version of your old profession. And players can actually mix and match a little bit. If you are playing as a Druid you will be able to use a lot of the Ranger’s skill”
http://www.zam.com/story.html?story=35650&storypage=2
“You can still mix and match, where if you are a Druid you will still have the capacity to use a lot of the things that the Ranger could, but your fundamental profession mechanic is different. While a Druid will be able to use some of the skills and traits that a Ranger could”
They’ve said in a few interviews that Druid can use “a lot of” the ranger skills and traits or “some” of them. Implying we’ll lose out on using some Ranger skills and traits when specialising as a Druid.
Okay
so let’s wait and we will see
No need to wait and see, have a read through the interviews on various gaming news sites and you’ll get the information to correct what you misinterpreted.
You unlock a specialisation that you can toggle on or off, when it’s on you get new traits, skills, weapon(s) and possibly a new class mechanic but you lose some base class traits, skills etc. If you don’t like the new stuff, you can just revert back to your base class and still stay competitive in any gamemode.
As far as we know, it’s not tied with the mastery system as you seemed to suggest.
Also, whilst they did say we’re getting more specialisations in time, it may or may not be released with another expansion, but through general feature packs.
Just as a piece of information: Beta is already available, according to PoI. They’re showing the beta version… I assume the game is more complete that we expect! I’m praying the Gods for a release happening in April <3
Yeah, that’s when I reckon it’s going to release, late April-start of May. Considering the living story is on hold until it’s released I don’t think they can wait much longer than that.
On topic though, that’s the same thing that’s been posted for months and as stated before, it’s not from NCsoft and they’ve been calling “expansion incoming” for ages.
I think those who use their tomes to insta-80 a Revenant will miss out on a lot. They’d have to learn the profession’s mechanics all at once after their stack of tomes runs out, without the gradual and casual process by leveling normally. I would encourage people to just play the Revenant as normal, but hey, play how you want, not how you’re told.
That’s only really an issue for people that haven’t played multiple classes and various builds. Once you’ve “mastered” multiple playstyles it’s easier to adapt to a brand new one.
I personally find the way traits are gained so late in the level up process tedious as a class can play entirely different at 80 as it does levelling (mesmer being the most extreme difference, in my opinion).
Specializations and the New Legendary Weapons
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: psizone.8437
If you’re referring to the Raven Staff that was datamined well over a year ago. (In November of 2013) and ever since it’s been re-mined over and over again under the guise of it being a ‘new legendary’. It’s not IMPOSSIBLE that they decided to make the legendary and put it in the files back in 2013 – well over a year before they were going to release the expansion. I just find it to be… improbable. Imo people just like to be the ones that datamine the next big thing, so they keep bringing that up. :/
In terms of specializations affecting which precursor you could craft.. I doubt that will happen too, since each class is getting 1 new weapon, that would mean one extra legendary skin for each weapon. (Unless I’m reading it wrong – you mean druids can craft X legendary staff, then everyone else can craft Y legendary staff, right?)
To be fair it sounds like things they said they were working on years ago are being put in with the expansion so the raven staff being a legendary even though it was datamined so long ago is more probable that improbable at this stage, especially considering how nice it looked.
I doubt the legendaries will be tied to specific specialisations though, if some fit in with the design of one then it will be purely coincidental I’d imagine.
Gaile the promises of “deep dives” doesn’t really mean anything at this point with how little information Anet gives out before something goes live. Especially since one of the Feature Packs involved a week of reveals that basically over hyped very minor things and most of which just forcing us to be on par with the China client.
As for needing to buy the expansion I wouldn’t be surprised if dungeon groups start requiring people to be in the new specializations of the class and fractal groups will probably require you to have X in the fractal mastery for the lfg groups so basically yes you will likely have to buy the xpac to continue having fun in the game.
Deep dives have already started, they’re on the main page and they seem to have a fair bit of information.
You won’t need the pack to have fun, but like you said, there may be stricter group requirements with the release of the specialisations.
I’m not going to link the above post because I know it’ll be deleted by a mod soon anyway but can you people please stop insulting people and telling them to “man up” because they may not be able to afford the expansion pack?
You have money, good job, the idea is to not look down on people that are less fortunate than yourselves. Friendliest MMO community… Really showing in this thread.
Actually, this same thread’s question has been posted here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Questions-you-want-Answered/firstAnd a dev has been looking at the thread, (although they have stated that they cannot answer some questions because of the “Deep dives” that they’ll be doing on certain features.) So if you’re hoping for an answer to the question after they do an article on the subject you’re likely to find it there.
Cheers for posting this. I’ve been keeping an eye on that thread just in case new info is posted, too.
At this point, I’m only posting here whenever someone directs something at me, insults people or asks a question I either have answers to or a valid opinion on.
I’m not saying it’s impossible – but I doubt an arenanet employee is going to clarify here and now when it’s most likely going to be clarified when they release more information about it. And until they do, it’s just a whole lot of speculation, opinion, and argumentation.
Speculation, opinion and argumentation is half the fun of coming to the forums, especially when it’s polite arguments and conversations.
I’ve lost way too many of my own posts here because the posts I quoted and replied to were deleted by mods, they were less than pleasant…
I don’t see how it COULD limit expansion-less people’s gaming experience. We don’t have enough information, we know it’ll be put into a rotation – but how will this rotation work? Will all three of the borderlands become the new map on certain weeks, or will 1-2 borderlands alternate between the new and old map? Maybe only one borderland will permanently become the new map whilst the other two remain the same, and which base you start with on said borderland will “rotate” with your color of the week.
Even IF on given weeks ALL of the borderland maps become the new map, what’s stopping non-expac players from simply going into EBG?
You can ask for clarification but it’s not going to be given until Anet chooses to release information on it. (Probably via the articles like with the new Mastery system.)
You just explained how it COULD limit gameplay yourself. And yes, the only way to get information is from Anet directly, that’s the whole point of these threads.
And yes, even if they take away the ability to go into the borderlands they could go into EB, but that doesn’t change the fact that they’d be taking away the ability to go into the borderlands.
I really do not think you understand. Why limit the game for people that support it by purchasing the expansion. You are asking for the game to revolve around the people who do not support it. The game is going to change, if people are looking for a game that will not change purchase any single player game. Why should I who will buy the expansion be limited because there are people that do not purchase it. I really think for the first month every daily should be based on the new maps, that goes for WvW, PvP, and PvE. We are purchasing the game, we are supporting the game. Just be happy that you can still play parts of the game without owning the expansion.
Not trying to be rude, but this comes up in so many games when an expansion is announced. The people that do not purchase the expansion expect the game to revolve around them going forward with claims of “you are taking away what I bought”. No you bought into an ever changing game, if you do not like it, I am sure they could ask for a refund.
Please do try to explain how letting non-purchasers play WvW limits your experience within the game. Asking if one thing is going to be free is NOT asking for the whole game to revolve around non-purchasers.
It was stated that those who do not purchase the expansion will be able to continue playing as they do now, what’s being asked here is clarification due to the WvW map being a wildcard.
I do think that most agree that WvW has gotten the least amount of attention. And ETOM is not a WvW update. But that’s neither here nor there.
If they simply intend to add the new WvW map to the current existing maps for a total of 5 maps in play every week then “rotation” was a poor choice of words for them to use.
But I can’t imagine them simply adding the new map. There aren’t enough players for the current 4 maps. Adding another map would be ridiculous.
And there’s no way they would mix 1 or 2 new BL maps and 2 or 1 old BL maps in the same week.
They way I understood “rotation” is that one week there will be the old BL maps + EB. The next week there will be the new BL maps + EB. They will rotate them on a week to week basis.
Only being able to play in EB for a week if you don’t buy the expansion would suck though.
Exactly, glad you came forward to back me up on that. Thanks.
I love how many people want to be the unique snowflake, and go against buying the expansion. If you do not want the expansion then do not buy it. Why come on to the forms and try to find out what you will not have access too. Just assume everything you have access to now you will still have access to. Anything new added you will not have access to. If there is a daily that is made up of all expansion items, guess what do not come on here complaining you do not have access to it. Stop trying to limit the people that actually want to spend money and support the game.
Again, you didn’t read the whole thread. One of the new things being added could limit the base game itself. That’s one of the questions being asked, it’s not about “oh, can we get this and that? I bought the base game”, it’s “oh, that new thing, will that one be free since it might replace what I’ve been playing in the base game this whole time”
It’s not just about “being a unique snowflake” I think that’s very rude to assume, people may be buying the expansion late due to personal issues or monetary problems, calling them out on it can’t be nice for them.
Going to butt in here, Hes saying that to people who are dead set against buying the expansion for whatever reason, not those that might not buy it or cant buy it.
Im neutral on this, im so used to traditional expansions in any genre that it wouldnt bother me in the slightest if this was locked behind the expansion. However, at the same time, there are people who wont be able to play WvW anymore. In the end, they may go the way of GW1 though and other traditional expansions where “If you dont buy it, to bad”
It sounded to me that he was calling out anyone that wasn’t going to buy the expansion regardless if they were just worried about losing their current game content.
It’s just the WvW map I’m concerned about, they’ve stated that people that don’t buy the game can still play the base game they’ve been playing. If they locked them out of a WvW map, that would contradict the whole “continue playing the base game” comment.
That’s one tiny portion of the expansion, the one part that could affect the base game as it stands. I really don’t think asking if that’s going to be free for everyone justifies insults and condescension.
1) With the many updates WvW has gotten -EotM, WvW “masteries”, borderland map revisions with the lakes, ect- it is by far NOT the most negelcted game mode in the game.
2) Because we’re talking about ‘freeloaders’ wanting, nay DEMANDING, that a feature listed in a paid expansion be free to them because of some sense of self entitlement.
FACT: There is nothing in the developer’s announcement or the interviews that follow that indicates that they will remove old maps.
The word “rotation” doesn’t just mean changing out maps every few weeks and there is no underlying context to support that assumption either. The word “rotation” can just refer to the teamup rotations that go on every two weeks as they have been since forever ago. That means who takes starting control of which keeps based on which spawn they are at “rotates” based on ranking, just as their team color also “rotates”. Understand? Nothing doing about completely changing WvW so only 1-2 maps is available in rotation every few weeks as that would be a complete flip to what the current design of WvW is now.
So please stop with the twisting of words to convey your own desires for free content from this expansion. I’m pretty sure and hoping as much that the new WvW map will be EXPANSION ONLY as will all the other features. A.Net is a business, not a charity. They need to sell a product and won’t do so by giving away it for free.
That’s essentially 3 changes in 2 and a half years. PvE has the living world and PvP has had a complete overhaul of their reward system. Out of the 3 game modes, WvW is the least updated.
at 44:25 “brand new WvW borderland map that will be added to the borderland rotation” they tell us that the borderlands will be placed on a rotation, I’m not twisting anything to match my agenda, that’s exactly what they said. As I said in an above comment, changing one map and giving a server a borderland that could have a tactical advantage over the other servers could ruin the PPT system we use.
I personally don’t want free content, I’m going to pay for the darn expansion and I’m looking forward to it, but blindly spewing hate towards people that might not buy it or can’t buy it and saying they’re not entitled to ask for something that could prevent them playing their current base game experience is just as bad, if not worse than asking for lots of free content and being “entitled”.
It’s because it’s not a big deal and those saying that rotating out one map out of 4 available is some violation of some blood pact ArenaNet made with us. Yes, you can continue playing the base game, and you will still have multiple WvW maps to choose from. You won’t have one of your nearly identical borderlands to choose from, big deal.
As a primarily WvW player, yes, it is a big deal.
If one server has terrain and defenses to keep their borderlands defended easier than the other two then it would utterly destroy the PPT system that we have in place right now. It’s got to be all 3 borderlands that change, it would not work any other way.
Whilst it’ll be a small number of players that don’t buy the expansion and play WvW, it’ll be extremely bad publicity for them if they shut out even a small number of players from a game mode they’d been playing for years.
No, it won’t be bad publicity, because this is standard across all MMOs. Ultimately, there won’t be players without the expansion who continue playing this game (at least not more than 1-2%). It’s a myth. It’s a nice theoretical exercise but ultimately every active player in GW2 will buy HoT or quit.
HoT, if it’s like any major expansion any other major MMO has put out, will also create interest and bring in new players who buy the bundle. The game will have a larger unified player base post-HoT than we do now, even if we lose a few folks who want more free content.
They’ve stated that you won’t need the expansion to keep playing the base game, if this new map is on a rotation, if it isn’t free for everyone, it would contradict that.
I don’t doubt the majority will buy the expansion or quit, but even if it’s an extremely small number of players that just want to play the base game, they’ll need to make sure they don’t prevent them from doing so.
I don’t understand why people are being so aggressive about one map in the most neglected game mode in the game being free.
Overheard in LA map chat in 10 months when HoT gets released: “Guild recruiting. Heavy WvW guild. HoT owners only*”.
Not likely. My reasoning it did not happen that way in Guild Wars 1. Players in guilds just bowed out of self made guild events that required those areas. They felt left out and bought the other campaigns.
Extremely likely, a lot of dedicated WvW guilds only allow certain classes and builds to join them so it would make sense that some would only allow people with the expansion pack and have the maximum capacity for classes and builds to join.
I have never heard of them. It also sounds like a guild I would not want to join. My comment was not that it would not happened. It was more that it is likely it would not be as rampant as people it sounded. I would venture 5% or less of currently active guilds will actually require the expansion. So if it does happen it is a statistical anomaly and irrelevant.
Like I said, it’s only dedicated WvW only guilds that tend to do it, if you go into WvW or EoTM you’ll see them fairly often.
It’s entirely reasonable to not want to join them, but they limit the classes and builds to be as efficient at zergbusting and fighting in WvW as possible. With HoT bringing new specs and a new class, having it could provide more efficient builds to suit their purpose.
Tell me where they mentioned this? I recall him specifically stating “will be added to the Borderland rotation”. No mention of replacement, no mention of making maps a weekly thing (such as they did with sPvP and it’s “main maps”).

If anything I read the word “rotation” in that sentence as meaning how which map is your team’s ‘home world’map changes and how your color equally changes. Because this map has “3 unique keeps”, I’m sure it rotates through as to which team starts at which location to which main keeps. That’s the way I read rotation as fitting into the current setting of the game.
If anything what they MIGHT do is remove a single Boarderland, leave 2 of the 3 clones, and replace it with the new one. They’d still rotate out which map has which team starting at which keep primarily. But there’s an issue with that and the “3 worlds” match up: the spawning pavilion. You know that big thing up north of the Northern Keep? Right now because there are 3 clones, each world gets ownership of 1 pavilion on one of the 3 maps. If they were to remove one map for replacement with this new one it would leave 1 of the 3 worlds without a pavilion spawning map. But that might be a minor issue at best because it is mainly a spawn and the whole of having an AH/Bank/things up there is more or less convenience rather than just going to Divinity’s Reach.
You said it yourself, “borderland rotation” implies rotating out the maps for the borderlands, not adding in a new map altogether in addition to the originals.
It was also pointed out earlier but I’ll say it again, if they remove one borderland and replace it and leave the other two as the standard map, then one server will have a terrain advantage in defence over the other two, ruining the whole point of having 3 identical borderlands.
Yes, it will be part of a rotation that they haven’t figured out how they’re going to do it yet, that is was in one of the post PAX interviews. There’s a couple of options, they could replace all 3 Borderland maps with the new one, or leave two of them the same and rotate the 3rd in place of the original, changing it weekly between the different colors, that way everyone gets to have it as their ‘home’ borderlands, or some other system that we have no idea about.
I’d imagine they’d have to swap all 3 to prevent a server from gaining a tactical advantage over the other 2.
Well if the players who have the expansion have this precursor advantage over those who didn’t bought the expansion. the game might start to go to the ‘pay to win’ path which is bad since GW2 was well known for a non-pay to win model
The only advantage Legendaries have is the ability to swap stats out of combat, it’s purely a quality of life weapon. There is no “pay2win” involved in getting precursors, only “pay2nothavetousethepublictoiletandwasteafortune”.
