Do NOT cave on Elite specializations. Everyone already gets access to the new weapon skills that can be used to further unlock the rest of the traits by PLAYING THE GAME. Unlocking your elite traits is no different than how you would progress new characters in other mmos. You get skills every other level by…PLAYING THE GAME. Just like in GW2 you get traits and skills by playing the game. You only need 40 HP…less if you prepared yourself for this expansion. Are you guys new to MMO’s? And once you unlock the mysteries needed to get to the HPs on your first character the rest of your characters won’t have to unlock anything.
.

Using the weapon at that stage leaves you with an empty traitline, for level 80 content (and harder content for HoT) that just doesn’t work.

I don’t mind putting in effort, but I’d rather put that effort into playing the game for masteries, the story and exploration rather than having to go out of my way to farm hero points if I want to play (a viable) elite spec.

It just takes a bit too long, 200 hero points would be more than enough. New characters would need to put in a lot of effort, spending a fair few hours unlocking it and older characters with map completion etc would need to do a little effort to unlock it.

That’ll be great two, but if it’s me i’ll make an extra character, collect the extra points unlock the skin, delete the char. And save those 200 remaining points for expac 2. Then Anet will have to make it so that… my HoT points are now 1/10 of expac 2 points, soooo….

That seems fine? If someone wanted to put the effort in just to do that, then why shouldn’t it be allowed? It’s not like it’s without effort. It’s not like the points will be going anywhere any time soon.

Yeah, except now you need 2000 points to unlock elite 2 spec, instead of the suggested 200 from elite spec 1, then 20000 points for elite spec 3…

I forgot to reply to the last part of your comment, sorry. Why would they need to lower the value of the existing hero points for elite specs 2+ because a few people might put in the effort to maximise hero points in preparation for future content?

It’s going to be a very small number of people willing to do that and if the hero points for future specs are raised higher then it may open up an even bigger can of worms in the forums.

This. The only suggestion I have for the new elite spec is this:

1. Remove all current hero challenges from core Tyria – These are not necessary.
2. Make all and every hero challenges from HoT worth 1 point.
3. You still need to unlock ALL core spec before you can unlock elite spec
4. Rescale the cost to 1-1 ratio. You need all 30? hero points (from Maguma) to unlock the specialization
5. No hero points should be left over after you fully complete the elite specialization.

This will remove floating, left over issues that create the needed to scale the 10:1 madness right now. And will set a path for future expansions…

That idea would probably be more effort than its worth.
Two ideas that get thrown around regularly that make more sense would be:

1. Reduce the requirement to 200 points.
2. Keep the requirement at 400 points but have traits/utilities unlocked by 200, leaving the remaining 200 for skins etc.

Also the expansion is hardly grindable… but that depends on what meaning players associate to grinding, which might be anything from the chest farming from SW to “oh i am grinding my life right now”

The expansion itself isn’t a grind, unlocking the Elite specs in a reasonable time is. That seems to be what the majority of people are complaining about (see the 52 page thread on it) which is completely understandable, not being able to play the Elite specs without 30-40 hours of just trying to get hero points is hard going for one spec, never mind doing it on alts.

People are allowed to complain. This is all new to Anet, too, they need feedback to understand what is going right with this launch and what people are not enjoying or having trouble with. Shunning people and mocking them for having a complaint is both uncalled for and kinda mean, everyone has their own opinions so if a percentage of the playerbase feels strongly about an issue, why shouldn’t they be allowed to post it in the forums? (the mocking people part wasn’t directed at you, but I’ve seen some nasty posts here and on reddit about people)

That said, complaining is only fine if it’s calm and doesn’t throw insults to other players and the devs. We need to ask for a change, not pressure them with talk of quitting.

I just completed “torn from sky” thing and asked to “return jungle to earn mastery to complete Glider basis” whatsoever . I don’t see any mark/hint /icon to continue with. All I can see are the repeated events and same few players run around to do the very same same same fights. Now don’t tell me it is how to get the mastery things. !!!

Oh, are you stuck in the story instance still?

Open your map and waypoint to camp resolve then walk to the lower right of the map into the jungle to continue.

Same thing happened to me.

they need to have the elite spec have it’s own exp it gets….so when you get exp, it goes to ur current mastery and ur elite spec when you have it equipped so you can level it up as you go through the new content

A “hero scroll” for each level of mastery would probably make it a bit more achievable.

Kind of like how it used to be when you levelled up a level 80 character in the past, you got a skill point scroll.

Even then I still think the number needs to be reduced a bit.

If that’s grindy for you, you haven’t played any other MMO before, no offense…

I don’t particularly have an issue with the Masteries, they seem to level up ok, but the Elite specs is definitely a grind, going from hero challenge to hero challenge trying to unlock on from having no HP is tough going, it takes so long.

The problem with the one line I quoted you on is that Guild Wars 2 was always the “no grind” MMO, you just played and did what you wanted. You were never forced to grind anything to unlock parts of the game so this is a bit of a U-turn. Comparing the grind in other MMOs to this one just doesn’t work because this one went out of its way to keep grind to a minimum and it appealed to a lot of “casual” gamers.

Getting more and more bored and kittened off with the chain-farming I’m doing just to get anywhere. Frankly, even to earn some of the masteries I wouldn’t bother doing the majority of these events for – I just want to play the kitten story, bit of fracs.

I haven’t gotten very far into the story at all since I’ve been trying to farm HP for the past 9 hours (been busy IRL so haven’t been able to play much before today) and I don’t like the sound of that at all, I also would rather just play the story in one go rather than have it artificially broken up.

The only issue I have is the Elite unlock, it really should be that high. I’m 110 HP in from a little story game play and a lot of HP farming and it’s taken me 9 hours. If it keeps going as is it’ll take me 30 more just for the first Elite specialisation, not counting any excursions to try the halloween stuff. Then I have several…several other characters that I want the Elites on and I’m way too tired for that train of thought.

I just finished my Dragonhunter today. I would say moderate is the effort required. It wasn’t too hard, wasn’t too easy.

Maybe a slight lessening of hero points required but not too much.

It’s not the effort that bothers me, it’s the time required. I’ve played for about 9 hours on my Revenant at level 80 doing the Maguuma stuff, WvW etc primarily going for the hero points and I’m still under 100/400 for Herald, in 9 hours. Going at this kind of pace it’ll take me nearly 40 hours for one Elite spec and that doesn’t include me going to play the halloween stuff or exploring the maps for fun. Coupled with my plan to have the Elites on a fair few characters, it’s going to take way too long in my opinion.

The masteries I have no issue with, they were supposed to be the thing to work towards for a long time with HoT. The Elite specs were never hinted to take quite that long.

I know it doesn’t seem like a grind to a lot of people, but for Guild Wars 2 it’s pretty grindy.

I didn’t wanna post since it’s so early into the expansion but I also feel like 400 hero points is way too much for the elite specs. I’ve spent a fair few hours on the Revenant and I’ve only managed around 60 points out of the 400 and that’s spending a lot of the time going for the hero challenges and trying to get them through WvW, the thought of doing the rest then doing my other characters is driving me mad. I love the game, but I don’t have the energy for that.

Then maybe Olias with limited minion summoning that explode on Legend swap.

in Elementalist

Posted by: psizone.8437

I’ve played ele and fought them many times and for me the most obvious solution to the “celestial menace” would be to remove or reduce the healing from the water skills of the dual wield weapons.

I have no problem with elementalists being tanky, nor do I have an issue with their burst or high condition damage if they’re specced that way. But I don’t believe they should be able to fully heal themselves from 30% health without touching their heal skill especially on such short cooldowns.

For me, it’s not fun to play or fight a class that can out-dps, out-heal and out-sustain the enemy with little to no risk.

Four of my friends have recently transferred from Fissure of Woe to higher tier servers because there weren’t many good fights around. I personally do not have the stomach to grind 300+ gold just for a simple transfer, nor do I feel like paying $20 for a transfer because that feels like a rip-off. I’d rather quit than do that to be honest.

Any suggestions for a desperate WvW player who likes WvW but can’t play it because his server is not populated enough? Free transfers: I am all for that. Only reason to transfer is WvW anyways.

Hey, my guild of 4 was in FoW and transferred to Piken a few months back to get some variety in our fights!

We had one of our guild members ask support if they could transfer us all since our matchup was broken and we had been being farmed for months with no change to the matchup and they transferred us all for free.

If you feel strongly about your server not being the place for you, OP, ask support nicely, they may transfer you.

You’re doing it wrong.

Roughly the same build, same exact armor set, same weapons, same playstyle. I’m not the only thief who’s having problems. This most recent patch has negatively affected the thief class, you can’t deny that. Especially in WvW.

I deny that, thieves are fine.

Your issue may be that you’re missing the toughness or vitality from your previous build and haven’t noticed. The update removed stats from traits so any defensive stats you received from them will need to be compensated for in your armour since that’s where the extra stat points were distributed.

For example, if you had previously gone fully into Acrobatics then you are now missing 300 vitality (3k health) which would make you die much quicker.

I think you misunderstand why WoW and FFXIV succeed as a p2p game.

WoW, EvE and other older mmos work with subscriptions since their players are already committed, having been playing since before f2p became the norm, and most of them (even WoW) are slowly losing their playerbases. Some other games, like FF succeed because the franchise it’s based on has a huge fanbase that are willing to pay for it.

Almost every other game that tries to go with a subscription fails within a year and goes f2p with an optional sub, not necessarily because the games are bad, but because people that would pay for a sub are in the minority now.

Guild Wars 2 is the king of “casual” mmos right now, being affordable and easy to get into, going with a subscription would kill off that “casual” playerbase and wouldn’t gain many subscribers since, as I stated above, that’s a failing platform these days.

Yeah, I can appreciate that that kind of things is ok in the Asian market (different ages of concent/social acceptance of that kinda thing) but in the Western market that doesn’t go down too well, not well at all.

if you really needed more from the shield what about making 4 a blast or projectile finisher ?
could do some interesting self combos with 5 and 4 then .

As an offhand the shield is just outdone by the focus for defense though.

I’d suggest keeping shield 4 as it is and making shield 5 a double blash finisher, once on activation and once on detonation and allow it to be used whilst moving, keeping it more in line with the Engineers shield but focusing more on support rather than CC.

By the same logic, it costs Anet nothing to add an extra character slot in the basic expansion purchase.

The majority of the upset seems to be the lack of a character slot for veteran players to try the new class with the basic expansion.
For example, all of my toons are level 80 (17 of them) and I’d be unwilling to delete any of them so I’d need to pay extra to play something included in the expansion.
It’s a small issue for sure, but an important one to a lot of players.

Actually the Revenant and 9 specialisations will be locked behind the expansion so they have to count. So I’d say that would be worth half the current professions as the specs aren’t full classes themselves.

If we’re only getting the 3 maps, and each just bigger than the Silverwastes then that’s around 1/4 of the current map – possibly.

New weapon and armour skins aren’t confirmed fully, but I’d imagine it’d be a fraction of what we currently have.

No performance increases have been hinted at yet.

WvW map and PvP gamemode haven’t been confirmed to be locked behind HoT (if they were they’d break the core game, the WvW map specifically)

We get new masteries, but most will be locked to the new maps.

For me personally, the pack is affordable, but the lack of character slot and losing out on the free core game because I’m already a player is leaving a bitter taste in my mouth.

Town Clothes, In Memoriam

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I never understood the logic behind making them tonics.

Making them skins similar to how the Fused Gauntlets work for all weight classes would have been ideal.

For clipping, some armour already clips with the current skins. Don’t like how one piece is clipping? Don’t use that combination of skins.

For the argument “If a Warrior runs in town clothes skins they’ll look like a light class” – Nope, outfits threw that out of the window and PvP currently has the option for mandatory default player models.

Really, swapping them back to skins is an easy and cheap way for them to add a little more variety to the game whilst we wait for HoT. (Easy and cheap because they already had the clothing as separate skins)

Beastmaster is a perfectly viable playstyle, it’s just not meta because there isn’t much it can bring outside 1v1 dueling. A lot of these trait changes look like they’ll be able to address that by giving the beastmaster more support options while improving the build’s dueling power, which could make it a decent point defense build with some roaming capabilities. The pet traits definitely are not useless.

BM is great for roaming, duelling, flipping camps, towers and given time, keeps.

These changes are absolutely glorious for condition BM bunker builds.

Go WS, NM and BM

WS
Ambidexterity, since I run dagger and torch offhand, a nice buff.
Oakheart Salve, regen and 5% damage reduction when I have regen? Sure!
Wilderness Knowledge, with Trolls Unguent being a survival skill and lightning reflexes and entangle being on my bar most of the time, we’re going to be much more effective against the masses condi builds in WvW whilst not sacrificing anything.

NM
Natures Wrath, the power is meh for me, but the increase of pet stats for a BM build, ok!
Vigorous Training, looks nice, Vigor is always welcome.
Protective Ward, I’d think this will be nerfed before release but 8s of protection on a 12s cooldown is godly.

BM
Rending Attacks, extra condi pressure from pets.
Natural Healing, 2 of my current traits rolled into 1, nice.
Zephyr’s Speed, perma 3 stacks of might? Right!

IF these changes stay relatively the same, we’ll be a force to reckon with – assuming the other class changes don’t breed something horrific.

Suggestion for Outfits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: psizone.8437

With the latest outfit, I can’t help but think about how great it would look with a hood instead of the helmet.

So my suggestion is to give outfits a ‘hide outfit helmet’ option that instead of making all headpieces disappear as it does currently, it shows your actual armours headpiece in its place.

This would give the outfits a small, but noticeable option of customization.

The reason I’d imagine it would be possible is that during the April Fools this year, you seemed to be able to have the Aviator Cap showing as well as your default headpiece.

As for the argument of “oh, the clipping would be horrid”, the game already has armours that clip so this wouldn’t be any different.

What amaze me is why Anet wont do anything about it? Ok you can clearly see the gap in rating. You can figure out that no RNG can overlap this gap.
So why not just manually update matchups afre 5 same matchups?
Its not hard to figure out what matchups are the same for 5 weeks. Then you just need to change matchup manualy with system one up one down.
Thats it. Rating will be solve by itself, those gaps will disappear. Yes people will whine about being farmed, but its also hapening right now and people are being farmed for months now.
Ring of Fire for example have good matchup, but in this matchup we all know that what decideds is if RoS or RoF can make enought points in prime time and night than dzag in the mornings.
Yes fights are still good, even after 9 weeks we can find good fights, but it gets repetive and boring.

PLEASE ANET, MAKE MANUAL CHANGE FOR NEXT WEEK. I BEG YOU.

A “one up, one down” system wouldn’t be awful either. It would at least give a little variety in the matchups.

I didn’t post it intending to mock, I used you as an example because your guild had been spamming disablers and laughing at small groups trying to recap and it was a fitting example as to why I thought the disabler was a flawed addition to the game.

Needless to say, it wasn’t very pleasant. I recognised my error in calling you out in a public forum, admitted my mistake and called for the thread to be closed but your behaviour (and admission that you’ve been targeting my guild for that thread) is disgraceful.

But you are right, we’re derailing so we’ll stop this nonsense.

You do realize this is how all MMOs work, right?

This game has always adopted the “we’re not like other MMO games” way of thinking.

Guild Wars 2s main selling point was the constantly updating living story, and for an unknown period of time, that’s gone.

It wasnt the main selling point for me. Dont think it could be the main selling point for the 3+ million people who bought the game before the living story was announced. If it wasnt a selling point at all for the majority of people who bought the game (I am certain that if GW2 had doubled its launch era sales Anet would have announced it so the launch era sales are still the majority) then how could the living story be the main selling point?

I’ve said a few times in the thread already, I should have clarified at the beginning but didn’t think it would be that confusing.

When the living story released it was their main selling point, it’s what they used to keep people interested in the game and to entice new players to join.

First you say it was the main selling point, then you say it didn’t exist at launch.

How can it be a selling point if the devs hadn’t talked about it until months after the game launched?

Like I said, as soon as the living story released, it was their main selling point.

You’re nitpicking.

Yeah because winning with a score of 300k most weeks clearly shows how we want to keep playing the same match-up over and over and isn’t trying to bridge the gap to T8…

Hell, after week 7 we even ranked past Vabbi and rng screwed us and put us back with you guys again anyway. We’ve been trying to get away from this matchup for a long time, fow was just too busy farming BT to notice.

.. yet the team above us refuses to allow itself to go up ..

Bit silly to say that now that we’re actually ranking up, is it not?

Ranik ranked down and fed wsr+vabbi enough rating to make a big gap between t8&9, that’s why we’ve been stuck with this mathup. End of story.

(A hint: After your wonderful disabler post most people just disable stuff as soon as they see [blub] tag.)

Real mature, the reason we have been fighting Bt is because they actually fight instead of camping a tower and disabling/sieging.

Way to prove my kitten point.

didn´t even exist at launch.

I didn’t say it did, but it did release a few months after the game came out and has been the focus of the game since.

Why should they give us intermediate Living Story chapters till the start of the expansion when so many threads in the forum kept saying how they disliked the living story and how they much preferred an expansion? There were frequently threads expressing such sentiments and almost no one saying different.

Well, people should be careful what they ask for. They might get it.

I know people posted a lot asking for an expansion but I doubt many thought of the consequential lack of other content until the pack came out.

Guild Wars 2s main selling point was the constantly updating living story, and for an unknown period of time, that’s gone.

It wasn’t the original selling point however.

The current plan is what so many on these forums asked for – a stop to the living story system and an expansion. Those people should be pretty happy right now.

There is absolutely no way a company of Anet’s size could produce content to fill the gap whilst making an expansion. It is simply too much work and too many resources. It isn’t feasible for them, nor is it feasible to request it of them.

At best I could agree on more festival content returning – Gauntlet and SAB seem good examples. But, I personally have plenty of in game content to play and plenty of alts to enjoy it all on.

Gauntlet and SAB are what I meant by filler content. There’s absolutely no reason they couldn’t reuse old content such as those to keep the game fresh whilst the living story is on hold.

Maybe its time to take a break then you can do that to recharge your joy of the game you know.

Needing to go on a break from a game you enjoy isn’t a good sign.

I’m just saying, having a living story with updates fortnightly and never have breaks in story for longer than a month or two then all of a sudden stopping everything until an expansion is released with an undetermined date is a terrible idea.

And since my main game mode is WvW, not updating matchups (relying on a broken system) and lumping us with not so pleasant people for 2-3 months isn’t helping.

Putting the living story on hold until the expansion was a terrible idea.

You should have placed more filler episodes before the finale to tide people over.

With WvW in my tier not moving in 2-3 months, limited dungeons and fractals. There’s simply no content to keep things fresh.

With an uncertain period of time before the expansion and no comment on content to keep us entertained, the games going to get even more stale, fast.

Agreed, we’re sick of being farmed by a server much bigger than us, who avoid going up a tier by not playing when their ratings go too high.

2-3 months of being spawn camped, laughed at, siege disable spammed and ganked.

Hell, the server in question even went into the forums to say they were the ones outnumbered all the time.

Some grade-A bullkitten going on here. Also, kitten the censor for not letting me rage properly.

I think the biggest concern here (as with an inspect tool) as others have already highlighted would be negativity, bullying, etc because of a persons choice of stats.

However, I think something akin could be implemented to show just the skin being used, and perhaps even the color of the gear tier, but leave the specific stats / runes / sigils / infusions off all together.
