It seems to keep up with me just fine when I’m using Runes of the Traveler. It’s a little bit of a hassle to get it at the right distance for me to be in its AoE without it catching up and pausing, but once I get it in that fairly-generous sweet spot, it works out.
Not saying it shouldn’t get a speed boost or tighter leash or larger AoE, just saying that it works for me with 25% speed. XD
For me “working fine” means it keeps up with me and I’m inside its AoE without me having to work to find the sweet spot you describe.
If I have to slow down at all to stay inside of my own skills AoE then it defeats the purpose of running with the 25% movement speed whilst using the Gyro.
If your group has swiftness, the Gyro can not stay close to you, so in most cases in WvW roaming, it is a 3 sec stealth for the group the ticks after the first will not get to you
.
AI was just the worst Idea for a utility, but they wont change it.
The thing can’t keep up with the 25% movement speed trait either.
I’d say they need to make them account bound and increase the amount you receive per rank up. I have more characters I want the specs on, but I’m sick of going into PvE for them.
Yeah, I recommend 4-6 per chest (since you get 2 chests) per WvW Level, and making them account bound, so you can get 1 trait per level or 1 Utility per 2 levels.
Or just give 10 Proofs of Heroic per level. Period.
10 per rank up seems fair since it takes longer to rank up in WvW than it takes to do any of the hero challenges in the HoT maps.
The cooldown starts when the Gyro is destroyed so it’s not quite perma-stealth and as you said, the Gryo itself is visible and destroyable so it counters the skill quite well.
Another downside (which I hope is a bug) is that the Gyro can’t keep up with you when you’re running.
So I just finished getting my Elite fully unlocked almost exclusively through WvW. Mostly solo. I can testify that it is significantly faster to get your Elite Unlocked through PvE, especially when you have your Masteries unlocked.
There is NO logical reason to not make Proofs of Heroic account bound. Especially when you take into account that Masteries are account bound, and exponentially decrease the time it takes for a pve character to unlock their elites.
Yup, I completed the 9 Elites through PvE which takes around 1.5-2 hours each Elite, quicker if there are people also doing the champion points.
To spend that time in WvW just karma training would unlock a trait or two in the Elite specialisation line.
I’d say they need to make them account bound and increase the amount you receive per rank up. I have more characters I want the specs on, but I’m sick of going into PvE for them.
Glint’s heal is the best PvE heal in the game as it has no cast time so it doesn;t slow down your damage and assuming you have aggro or can stand in a damaging aoe is 3 seconds of invulnerability and full life every 30 seconds.
Shiro’s is a dps increase and should be used on cooldown in dps rotations.
Ventari’s is really designed for a true healer role where the healing is more about allies thna yourself.
Jalis’s is on par with other boring heals in the game despite us having a second heal.
Mallyx’s is a pretty strong heal when you have conditions which is Rev’s weakness.
Man, I had a good reply written up and the forum died on me.
Basically I agree with your write-up. I WvW so in my opinion:
Glints heal can be almost nonexistant in a 1v1 or small group fight if they don’t attack.
Shiro is as you said, a dps heal which seems rather fine as is but can’t be used as a burst heal.
Ventari is the “heal others” heal and doesn’t work well for healing yourself. (the core use of a healing skill, IMO)
Jalis seems fine, a good heal, cures conditions but the rest of the utilities are a bit meh outside of zerg fights.
Mallyxs heal is like a poor mans “Consume Conditions” but that whole line mostly only works for condi builds.
To me, the extra time (and risk of more interrupts) and juggling of utilities when swapping legends (and potentially risk having the wrong utilities up) should be enough of a balance for increasing the base heals.
I feel like the base heals on all of the Legends heals need to be buffed.
Considering the Revs considerable lack of condition removal, I don’t think the heals as they are can be justified by the fact that we have 2 heals.
A lot of the skills will heal you for around 1 or 2 attacks from a basic attacker with the base heal with the secondary heals being too situational to be of use. (Glints heal is only effective if you get attacked within the time limit, if they hold off for a few seconds you’re left with essentially the same health you started with.
I’m going to eat lunch so I can’t elaborate any more, just figured I’d put that on the table whilst it was on my mind.

You could do Eotm train to farm Scrolls of Heroics, oh wait its disabled now you cant xD
Yeah, was just reading that. I was planning on going back into EotM today since I can’t find a bunch of HoT challenges and didn’t want to spend my time getting lost (as fun as it is to get lost, it’s not fun for me when I’m going for a specific thing) and was disheartened to hear that it was disabled for now.
Hopefully it’ll come back soon with revised numbers, more proofs per rank would be great.

Wasn’t suposedly a way to get Hero Points in WvW?
There is, the only real issue I have is that it takes around 200 WvW rank ups to unlock the 400 hero points (maximum, sometimes you get lucky and earn more points).
If they increased the amount you earned per rank up I’d be perfectly content.

I was thinking about it and can’t remember if I posted my suggestion or not. I’m sure someone has posted the same idea.
Currently it can take 200 WvW ranks to unlock the elite specialisation, that seems like a bit much for 1 spec.
Maybe just adjust the amount you can earn per rank up to a similar amount you can earn through PvE HP challenges.

I took a look at Metacritic a few moments ago and the expansion is only scoring at 6.9 right now. That’s pretty darn sad as GW2 was the best MMO on the market for years. I hate seeing the HP issue tearing down such a good game.
I wish Anet would fix this and turn the expansion back to the core game of no grinding/casual friendly.
It was much lower last night because some people have been asking others to leave bad reviews to force Anet to answer this thread.
To make a point, if people want to leave bad reviews it’s their right, but make sure they’re well written and you try to justify the score. Also, counter to that, if you leave a good review, mention what you liked and justify your score.
“1/10, grindy as hell” and “10/10 because people are whiny” don’t help anyone decide if a game/expansion is any good by looking at the reviews and it makes it harder for Anet to look for feedback.
Without map completion makes it more tedious. I only have map completion on one, maybe two characters and I decided to do the first elite on a Revenant.
If you can’t solo, try something different
I see so many forum posts about people not being able to solo the content? What exactly can’t they solo? I’ve had zero problems solo’ing anything other than a few champ skill points. And even then you don’t have to party up and there’s usually other people around helping. No one should expect to solo legendary monsters in group events. Which are optional encounters.
Maybe people just need to try different builds and tactics. Its more challenging but it’s not impossible or even that difficult. If anything if it was to easy and people just blew through the game people would complain about it being to easy instead and boring.
Anet said, “be prepared to change specs, use weapons and utilities you don’t normally use” etc. So running zerker gear and running into fights without looking won’t work anymore, try equiping a ranged weapon on your secondary set and changing some gear for extra toughness and vitality and you should find it much easier.
See how easy it is to make your exact point without insulting people? Play nice.
Don't understand all these spec complaints...

To add to this, they added an option to get the hero points through WvW rank ups. But it takes 30-40+ hours to get the 400 points required… per character.
Logged in on that last update and it fixed itself for me.

I’m taking time away, since the game is more frustrating than fun. The meta critic score is only 5.6 out of 10 at the moment, so I don’t think ANET needs more downvoting. If they don’t have an idea of how badly HoT has been received, they’re willfully ignorant.
I’m expecting more silence until they’ve had meetings and set a plan to fix this mess.
If we don’t hear anything from them by early in the week, it’s time to find a new game.
But I’m pretty sure they know a lot of people are unhappy.
Down to 4.8 now, I don’t think it’s justified and I’m surprised no-one has come into this thread to do some damage control just to reiterate your point that they need to discuss the issue before posting something definitive.
It is possible GW2 is meant to be a grindfest now. It is possible they no longer care about casual players.
Time will tell.
Nah, it’s more likely they messed up the balance between what the game used to feel like and adding an endgame for players that wanted that. It’s entirely fixable.

Already on the front page
You need to equip the Reaper specialisation in the third trait line under specialisations.
You need to use the Scrapper trait line, it only slots into the third (bottom) trait line.
That sounds reasonable and probably quite simple for them to do. I hope they do, it’d give me a reason to buy something like that.
I absolutely love the way the wings work as a glider, it’s so seamless.

Do you get all new skills in wow when there is a new expansion? No, you level and at 91 you get a new skill, 92 another etc. This is the same, except no stupid inflation of dmg numbers, no old content being invalidated. It is BRIALLIANT, once you stop and think about it.
I played an hour of WoW once, didn’t like it.
That said, not many people are asking to get everything with no effort, the main ask is for the requirement or acquisition of hero points to be altered to be more achievable within a reasonable time.

You shouldn’t expect to be fully evolved just after launch. Masteries are equivalent to other games leveling up for an expansion. They said its their new system of “progression”. You wouldn’t play wow or another mmo and expect to compete at top pvp without leveling first. Same logic.
Masteries =/= specialisations.
Most people are fine with masteries being the end game thing to work towards but the elite specialisations take an age to unlock fully.

I think that’s a little extreme to do before the devs have replied with their plans on whether they’ll change things or not, especially 3 days after the expansions release. The devs need a little time to discuss things and do some tweaking after looking at the feedback in the forums.
Well, this doesn’t mean that they intentionally didn’t decide to gate everything behind a huge grind-xp wall, and the fact that they didn’t mention at all the fact that elite specs would require 400 Hero Points.
So, a review there is useful even in order to tell other people how much Anet cared about players with this profoundly stupid and shady behaviour (it’s stupid not to expect this amount of complaints regarding the elite specs).
I’m annoyed, too. But this could be a case of them just severely misjudging how hard it would be to unlock, but potentially ruining a games online score based on the first weekend of a release is a bit harsh. Anet could (should) change things and address the complaints, but the likelyhood of people changing or deleting their negative reviews after the issues have been rectified is low.

We have one more tool which to express our displeasure with the specialization grind this time.
Go to the metacritic site and give HoT a low score.
Metacritic score are becoming increasingly important in the gaming industry, with several companies tying bonuses and etc to a good score. By telling ArenaNet very publicly about how the current system doesn’t work, we can be heard.

More a general statement aimed at anyone.
All good, figured I’d check just in case!
It’s fun when you get to a hero point and there is a kittening frog telling you “nope your not string enough” well I made it to the kittening point how am I not strong enough?

You aren’t forced to play PvP or WvW to craft a precursor. You can buy the Memories of Battle and Shards of Glory on the Trading Post from other players.
Similarly, WvW players can earn Hero Points by gaining WvW ranks (though it might take longer), and PvP players don’t need to earn Hero Points at all as their Elite Specs are already unlocked as long as they own the expansion.
I think he’s referring to the Gift of Battle required for old Legendary weapons that could only be bought through playing WvW.
Legendaries are meant for players that excel in all aspects of the game. I don’t like dungeons, but I have to do them for certain parts of the legendary crafting.
Was the reply meant for me? I have no problem with Legendaries!
I think he’s referring to the Gift of Battle required for old Legendary weapons that could only be bought through playing WvW.
He said “craft precursor” and “PvP”, so it doesn’t sound like it’s a complaint about the Gift of Battle, no.
By his writing style I assumed English wasn’t his first language and he meant Legendary since he mentioned the WvW part. I could be wrong though, was just a suggestion.

Might wanna edit the last part out, it doesn’t really need to be stated and ruins the integrity of a post.
That said, you can earn HP in WvW, it just takes too long and I feel like it needs to be tweaked.
Wait didn’t Colin Johanson mention that each hero challenge in the jungle is 10 points each? What happened?
http://dulfy.net/2015/10/20/gw2-elite-specialization-line-costs-400-hero-points-to-fully-unlock/
Nothing, it just takes longer than a lot of people expected despite the jungle hero challenges being worth 10 points.
Why did this thread need to be bumped? The title and content just fuels more arguments. People are allowed to complain, people are allowed to argue against their points but complaining about complainers just gets turned into a flame war.
I am going to drop a question in here that I have not been able to get an answer to just researching.
I ran my new revenant through a lot of the old world map to open up way points and along the way I hit all the skill points I came across. Will those skill points count towards my new Hero point needs? Or am I only able to obtain the necessary Hero points in the new HoT area for unlocking my elite skills and masteries?
All hero points count, new and old. Though I don’t think there’s enough in old Tyria to unlock the Elite there alone.

When I bought Guild wars 2 I bought it for ONE reason, to play all the classes and when I first logged on I realised all my profession traits were gated behind a stupid leveling system!
Imagine my dismay when I couldn’t unlock any of my skills until I reached level 40, 60 and 80.
Note the sarcasm*
Was the sarcasm really called for? By the time you levelled to 80 (even with tomes) you got all of the hero points needed to unlock every trait and utility from the level up chests. Quite different from having to do hero challenges or levelling up in WvW.
Thread on the main page, it’s bugged.

I first feared 400 is to huge for me as WvW focused player.
But i am not shure annymore. 10 Points per WvW hour, about 100 were left from about 50% map completion and you can get a bit from PvE. I just don´t want to be forced into jumping puzzles and to often repeatet PvE content but playing the story once + some exploration wit hthe glider is nice and OK. Taking all together its not instant Elite, but i guess not to long too.
Doing it entirely in WvW (which should be possible) would take 40 hours on a new character, that seems like way too long for one elite spec. If you want multiple elites you could be facing hundreds of hours of farming points if it stays as is.
Seen plenty of non-infracted negatives around and then I’ve seen some with insults etc which would get infracted.
I’d love to comment on the worth of HoT, but as it stands I’m between farming HP points for my first Elite and my story is bugged and I can’t progress so I’ll save my decision for when I’ve played the game properly.

I’m 5 hero points away from getting my last trait for Reaper, took about 2 days of just playing the game, not farming. Relax and play the game for fun dude.
Was that on an existing character with map completion? Cause starting a new character (like the Rev) is a chore.
After being told repeatedly to go play the story instead of complaining about hero points I also ran into this bug so I’m a little annoyed but mostly amused by it.

I don’t understand the 400 HP claim either, it’s a false question, the new hero challenges will reward you with 10 HP, which means you only need to do 40 Challenges, which isn’t that much either.
40 jungle challenges is doing every challenge on all 4 maps, some can’t be done without levelling masteries or unless you have a big enough group/there are people nearby on the map.
The process of finding where to go for the challenges, being able to do the ones gated and being able to kill the enemies takes a fair chunk of time.

So on the 3rd day of HoT i see people running around with over 30 masteries points earned.
Taking into consideration that all masteries are account based I cant’s possible understand how can some one claim that will take over an year to get the elite specializations.
Masteries =/= Hero points (For the elite specialisation)
Two different systems.
Most claims i see are the HP gated behind masteries.
A few are, yes. In the jungle there are a few that are gated, a few that are behind champions that are tough to kill solo/with a friend.
But there are other hero points that are easier to get or can be awarded through WvW but it takes longer than many feel is comfortable for it.

I leveled my Revenant in literally the time it took to click on 60 tomes and the instant level 20 scroll. ~5 minutes, tops. So now I need to go farm some Hero Points to flesh out the rest of the elite spec; maybe ~10-15 hours of game time if I focus on it.
The brand new class, maxed out, casually, in less than 10-15 hours.
I’ve mostly focused on earning hero points on my new Rev and 10ish hours in and I’m 1/4 of the way through the Elite spec. If you farmed EoTM it’ll take you 30-40 hours of good gameplay to earn the HP.
10-15 hours to earn it if I focussed would have been nice, but that isn’t the case.
That’s the problem. You want it all now. How does it take to long though when the expansion has only been out for 2 days? Relax and stop trying to rush. HoT’s not going anywhere.
Look if you really want to get it done fast just go do the Mad King instance, or EoTM and just buy all of the HP’s if you are dead set on rushing yourself through everything. But trying to get Anet to get rid of character progression thats been a part of GW since 2005 is just….no.
You only need to get the unlocks on your first character. The others can just go straight to the HP’s ( the ones that don’t involve champ slaying ) without worrying about whether or not you have poison mastery or updraft ect ect.
Well I primarily play WvW, I rarely play PvE content. So my ideal is to play through the story, do a little mastery and then head back to WvW.
Even if I was to farm EoTM, it’d take 30+ hours to complete the Elite spec and for WvW you can’t really use an incomplete traitline.
Having masteries for character progression is more than enough, but for a fair chunk of the playerbase, playing the elites was the main draw of HoT (especially WvW players). Having the elites take 200 HP for a new character would take just as long as it takes to level from 1-80 if not a little longer, that seems like enough.
I haven’t gotten round to playing the mad king stuff, but for knowledge, how do you get HP from it?

I’m angry that ANET isn’t closing down and infraction the rude, insulting posters who make childish attacks on the many who are unhappy with elite spec unlocks. I don’t mind being disagreed with, even strongly, but personal attacks being allowed do not make ANET look good.
Yeah, it seems like being a unhappy with something justifies insulting them for some people.
Almost every post that someone asks for the requirement to be lowered is met with a sea of “man up”, “cry-baby” and worse.
Along with the “What grind? I’ve played x-MMO and had to stand at one tree for 12 days straight hitting button xyz to unlock a hat, THAT’s a grind. You must want to unlock the elite by logging in” as if playing a grindy game justifies shooting down peoples feelings that unlocking the elites like this is grindy.
