Seems pretty good. Will be good to see these changes put in place, at least as a beta at first since there’s no harm in trying it.

Any chance you could add a negative score for losing towers/keeps? Higher tiered positions would lose more points but capping them back would only provide the points of a standard tower/keep, giving more of a punishment for not defending things you own.

Also gonna chime in and say that my server seems to be queued on the borderlands more than EB currently.

As a side note, thinking that the differences could be server based on which map each playerbase prefers, it would be quite nice if Anet could make it so that during the reset downtime players could vote on what they collectively want as their home BL for the week, with the majority vote winning.

Why can’t they add one of the three as DBL? Why do they all have to be 3 identical ones?

Assuming they make all of the lords etc the same, there’s no real reason that it can’t be done. Only possible issue is that one map could be easier to defend than the other and gives a team or two an advantage but I don’t think it’d be that big of a deal.

My vote is for Alpine lords. I dislike the teleports, CC spams and other gimmicks that the desert lords have. It’s the boring choice, sure, but the one I prefer.

top left and top right had towers. And had plenty of fights of the enemy defending those locations from cata/treb spots.

Those towers are still in the Alpine maps, they’re just slightly lower and there are almost always fights for those in the EU.

You mention wasted space, which there is plenty of behind each of the two top towers on the Desert map, too. My point is that it’s not a problem exclusive to any map, there is and always will be wasted space.

Could we maybe refrain from throwing insults and calling people “whiny children” because they disagree with you?

Some people genuinely prefer each map for whatever reason, insulting either party because of that gets us nowhere.

Map rotation is in the works and is the best compromise (though 3 months is too large of a delay currently, even if they have a good reason for it) and making threads like this and causing arguments for no good reason is one of the reasons why the devs abandoned posting in the forums to begin with, no-one wins if nobody compromises.

Are there maybe any things you could “achieve” or farm in WvW like you can in pvp/pve and would be an interesting goal to play WvW for?

A lot of the time it’s the thrill of the fight or the payoff of defending your Towers and Keeps that people play for but you can rank up and have a chance to get Ascended weapons and armour as you do so. Also, now we have an sPvP-style reward track system that you can work towards getting skins of various kinds as you play.

50% of the Map is wasted space.
-The top left and top right corners of the map, should have something more to them. Perhaps put in a Tower in each of those corners. And these towers are protected by the NPCs that spawn in that area. Top right tower would have Centaur NPCs protecting it. Top Left would have NPC skrit protecting it.

This is an issue with the Desert maps as well, have you been to the top left and top right of that map?

No actually it was not. At least I never ran into this issue on the new BL’s…

You must have gotten lucky then, I regularly got the obstructed message when fighting, especially around the southwest and southeast ends of the map and around the top right shrine.

In a few weeks and after a couple of changes, sure, bring it back. But bring Alpine maps back a few weeks after that. Rotate the maps properly, don’t wait 3 months between.

Remove the cripple zones and revert the Desert Lords to the Alpine versions (I want to cap a tower, not chase a teleporting npc) and it’ll be much better in my opinion.

Looks similar to what I usually run if I go base, though I have a couple of changes I’d recommend.

First, your critical chance shouldn’t go over 50% since you’re traited to get 50% more when in Shroud so you’d be better off swapping the runes to Scholar to increase your damage. Secondly, you may wish to consider dropping the Death Magic line and taking Spite for the 20% damage increase on foes below 50% health since it’s a significant damage increase, especially when dropping wells into an already damaged enemy zerg.

Also, don’t forget food and stones if your commander doesn’t drop the good stuff, Orrian Steak Frittes and Hardened Sharpening Stones are super cheap and give a good power boost.

Dwarves would be cool, different shading on stone as skin colour would be a nice feature, unless they somehow make them fleshy again.

I’m definitely thinking that Anet need to release a new race as a hype generator for the next expansion since HoT left a fair few people feeling disappointed and it would certainly increase their character slot sales for altaholics like myself.

It is only an issue for pvp, and it’s really not that bad.

It’s an issue for WvW as well, especially when roaming. With the amount of Daredevils around right now there are too many interrupts to have to contend with.

If it’s an issue in 2/3rd of the game modes, it needs to be looked at.

Who would the Smallscale secondary server be fighting against? For example my FoW is currently linked to GH and we fight FSP+UW and DZ. What match would we be in for the smallscale server?

Ah, sorry I should have specified. They’d be fighting the other “missing” servers so FoW, Vabbi, WSR, Underworld etc.

There should be 9 Smallscale servers so there’d be 3 matchups happening at any given time, completely independent from the “main” matchups.

Currently a portion of the playerbase is upset after losing their servers and though this is currently temporary it still serves as a learning experience.

Queues are also currently rearing their heads again and though this may die down, a solution may be needed for that as well.

Below is my current thoughts on a possible fix to these issues.

This will be from an EU point of view since I know very little about the NA WvW scene.

  • Take the 9 currently disabled servers and form them into a new WvW matchup experience, dubbed ‘Smallscale’.
  • Allow all players currently on the main servers to select a Smallscale secondary server and vice versa.
  • Disable squads to discourage blobbing on the Smallscale servers only.

Pros:

  • Server identity saved.
  • Players that enjoy the smaller scaled combat of the bronze league servers could retain that feeling.
  • Players from the main servers can port over to help Smallscale servers in case of emergency.
  • Smallscale servers could act as an overflow in case main servers are queued.

Cons.

  • Maybe hard to implement.
  • Risk of some players trying to blob up Smallscale servers despite the lack of squads.
  • Difficulty in calling for help from main servers if the players are scattered, though this could be fixed by joining server specific guilds.

Scrapper did need nerfed badly, but the increase in casting time on the Turret heal is too much.

In WvW there are too many interrupts that can prevent the heal with that activation time so I’d rather they reverted it and just increased the cooldown a bit instead, especially since we don’t enough Stability to waste just to make sure we get our heal off.

That sarcasm is a little misplaced… The desert map was modified and it made it much more enjoyable for some of those who didn’t enjoy it before.

That and the rewards and stability changes are kicking up a storm, as they should be.

Edit: on the off chance that wasn’t sarcasm, some servers on the EU are queued at least 20-30 on the borderlands right now.

Oh look.. first leagues was “skill” based and now they arent? What happened guyz?

More people got to legendary and now there aren’t as many special snowflakes around.

The leagues are one giant reward track this season, changing it midway wont suddenly make getting the wings and legendary titles any more prestigious. Wait until the next season with a new set of titles and wings then make it more difficult to climb the divisions.

Anyway, yeah the ability to dps and strafe etc is nice but a lot of people liked the charm and playstyle of the current Sword.

I personally wanted them to make the Sword into a condi weapon, keeping the animations and buff the Greatsword to make that the power dps melee weapon of choice.

All said and done though, Anet is changing it so all we can do at this point is wait and see how it turns out.

For the population and map changes, yeah. Rewards will be on the Tuesday update.

I wouldn’t mind seeing vulnerability and another condition added to it. Torment would be awesome if it still has the cripple, but poison might actually get me to consider running a poison master build.

Man I’d love a proper mainhand condition weapon…

I’m gonna miss the old sword animations, but I’ll hold off complaining until it’s here since the changes could be amazing in practice.

That’s a very constructive argument… Could you tell us why?
In my opinion I mplementing such a system would:
+ increase the amount of players in borderland
+ increase build diversity
+ decrease the amount of gold you spend for wvw specific gear and consumables
+ even out fights : skill wins over gear

Only benefits except for the fact that that people that grinded for ascended gear (me included) won’t one shot new wvwers. I’m ready to make that concession for the big amount of benefits.

I think you’re overestimating how much of an advantage Ascended gear gives over Exotics. Unless your target is naked, AFK, uplevelled and has 25 stacks of Vulnerability on them, you’re never going to one shot them.

There’s no need to get all complicated by adding sPvP (or gw2skills) styled stat choices, all we need is more stat variations in the WvW gear vendors, including access to runes and sigils and a merchant that sells food and oils in exchange for badges.

Currently, skill and builds win over gear but you’re not killing anything if you’re running around naked. Exotic gear isn’t expensive (barring the insane prices on the HoT stats) so there’s little excuse to not have it equipped.

A lot of people enjoy gearing up their characters for WvW, removing that would remove some of the sense of accomplishment and attachment to the characters we’ve spent so much time and effort on getting just right and getting that feeling of joy when you win a fight and that effort is paid off.

Why should they try harder in carrying 2 teefs while you don’t give a kitten about team comp?

And this is coming from a thief main player.

Just politely ask then to swap, if both Thieves decline then man up and play the match, you’re not guaranteed to lose unless you AFK at spawn. I’ve had more than a few matches where dual Thieves have more than pulled their weight in a match.

Seriously, if you feel that strongly about it then stop pugging ranked.

It would be easy enough to move all the camp guards closer to the center, so you’d always have to fight all of them to flip a camp. But to be clear, you guys are arguing that you want to do ‘more PvE’, which seems to go against the forum’s current agenda of ‘less PvE.’

1) Don’t expect to 1v2 with any class. Always go in expecting your opponents to be competent, if they are then it doesn’t matter how good your class or build is, you wont kill them without luck. That said, most classes can 1v2 if you’re facing lesser skilled opponents.
2) Each of those classes can output large damage with the right build.
3) Best bet is certain Guardian, Revenant and Thief builds, Ele is more about sustain and AoE.
4) Sounds like the current Clerics Aura Shout Elementalist (with Tempest Elite specialisation) meta build that many people are running right now, 3v1 might be a push though and you definitely will die if there are more than that on you and the build is better suited to fighting with one or more team members nearby.

Another class to consider would possibly be a Mesmer since they can be built to deal heavy damage and do so quickly (covering your points 2 and 3) and whilst not tanky, can be built to avoid damage well.

1. roamers are almost always thieves which take 0 skill to get a kill with
2. roamers almost always try to gank people
3. roamers target people who want nothing to do with you

basically no one likes you because you’re annoying

Be sure to whisper those roamers in the large open player versus player game mode and tell them not to kill you because you don’t like it.

Only roamers I don’t like. Are the ones that use food buffs vs people that don’t use them. Start the fight, but run or stealth if they look like they are going to lose, but keep coming back to catch me off guard when I’m hitting a camp. That to me is a dirty roamer… but I don’t know, maybe that’s what a roamer is meant to be nowadays? if so, that is a sad state of affairs indeed.

I think you’re mixing up ‘roamers’ and ‘duellers’.

Roamers take out enemies trying to flip camps, sentries and small team trying to take a tower (and take enemy camps etc) and occasionally if they bump into an enemy roamer they’ll either duel if they both like that or they’ll go straight for the kill to prioritise keeping points. Roamers will run if they can’t win and they might lose a camp by dying.

Duellers roam the map just to fight people 1v1 and will wait until an opponent is ready (food buffs and all) before attacking. Some times they’ll cap or defend a camp but they’ll generally prioritise duels over points.

This hasn’t really ever changed.

I have a feeling that they’ll make all stability skills pulse similar to how some elite skills do right now.

Like https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Rampage which applies 2 stacks of stability every 3 seconds for 15 seconds.

So https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/“Stand_Your_Ground!” would apply 5 stacks of stability every 3 seconds for 5 seconds, allowing it to proc twice (three times if you have enough +boon duration).

That should buff stability enough to make it viable for pushing the enemy, reward going for +boon duration for support Guardians etc and still allow CC abilities to make a dent if they’re applied properly.

The more I think about it the more I realize WvW does need new, exclusive items.
If Anet really wants to save WvW (which is questionable) they need to introduce items that will draw in new players.

Anet needs to introduce gear you can only get in WvW and keep it that way for a minimum of 6 months.

Other than gear, we should get a handful of exclusive, have-to-play-WvW-regularly-to-get special infusions similar to the Chak one and the Ghostly thing you get from raids.

People love those infusions so it could be a draw to temp people to be active in WvW for a prolonged time and a nice reward for people that do it already.

By more freedom you mean what exactly? The pirate ship meta? Steamroll compositions designed to roll through any zerg like butter? Absurd boon spam? Condition bombs and traps that can stunlock entire groups of players? Or do you mean the freedom to sit inside of an objective and build enough arrow carts so that you can maintain a constant flow of red circles for miles?

Yes… World vs. World has definitely given the freedom for players to be all the cheese that they can be. I am being somewhat facetious but I am sure that you get my point.

You’re confusing ‘freedom’ with ‘balance’.

Freedom to min-max my build as I see fit and being rewarded for putting a little extra effort into my build. Don’t like the pirate ship meta? Roam or go smallscale, that’s where the effort you put into your build shines and your skill shows.

World vs. World currently has no incentives to keep players interested in continuing and bring players in to become interested. Like PvP? Do sPvP. It’s better supported with more reward and less of the headache. Like PvE? Do the many avenues of PvE that you have which are also more rewarding in varying degrees. My point is if World vs. World continues down the route it seems to be going, then who cares about what to do with consumables to a damaged game mode that ends up no longer being popular?

Again, we’re getting those incentive later this month.

They’re releasing (though a live beta at first) better rewards and a population balance change and a few other changes.

The fighting in WvW is considerably different than in sPvP, there’s more freedom and more ways to fight.

I care, and I’m sure many others considering the game mode is not dead yet. We’re finally getting an update that could start fixing things so asking for a quality of life change is not pointless.

You should then have to ban:
-Elementalist auras
-Thief dodges and evades
-Warrior killshot variants
-Guardian traps
-Necromancer chill
-Revenant Infuse Light
-Mesmer portal
-Engineer hammer

If you couldn’t tell, I was being sarcastic. Every class has an ability or weapon that is extremely powerful and/or does something that other classes can’t. I definitely wouldn’t say that S&R was the most broken ability in sPvP right now.

I don’t see an inventory issue with blueprints unless you are a commander or a roamer and even then I don’t think it warrants resource allocation to work on. There are bigger issues in this game mode and the game as a whole that need attention.

Many issues are finally getting a possible fix later this month so now is actually a great time to start giving them ideas for nice quality of life fixes they can also work on.

It’s recommended that any regular WvWer, regardless of role, keeps a stock of some rams, catas, ACs, ballistas and siege disablers on the off chance they’re needed, especially the last 3 as they’re instrumental in defending structures.

If you’re stocked up on every possible siege blueprint and trap just to be prepared for whatever may happen in WvW then you’re losing 9 or 10 slots per character and making sure each character is stocked up can be a chore if you play multiple alts.

Commonly used WvW food and oils. I probably spend about half of the money I earn in WvW on the food I use and regularly see people just not using any.

+1 on it being WvW only, we should start separating WvW and EotM so there’s less incentive to just karmatrain that map for rewards.

Yes, on some servers, I’m pretty sure they still were the minority – but that wasn’t my point.

What was your point then?

Back just before EotM went live there were a lot of servers that regularly had queues on 2-4 maps and people had to queue in Lions Arch. EotM was to give WvW players a place to play when the queues were that bad.

Now, sure, there are very few server that have a problem with queues. Even the number 1 servers on EU and NA will struggle to have queues on all maps. But back then it was different.

They’ve already said they’re planning on fixing the population imbalance.

I think he made a lot of good points and I hope Mike watches the whole thing if he gets the chance.

I think it’s pretty worrying that they’d prefer to cancel something that people were promised (Legendaries) instead of pulling some of the 70 people working on the next expansion (which doesn’t have a set release date) in order to make sure everything was shipped properly.

It makes it seem like the next expansion is more important to them than making sure their core game is working, we have enough content and everything is balanced.

so you want to merge only some of the servers? that doesnt make sense, population imbalance is not a lower tier only thing. it also wouldnt be fair to only merge some servers while leaving others untouched.

i agree that megaserver wvw would be a huge mistake, but only because of its current problems (maps constantly closing, high pop maps make if impossible for groups to play together). i think if these were addressed then it could work, and like i said in a previous post, i think most people would prioritize population over server pride. why should people worry about server pride when they have no one to fight?

I’d say leaving the top populated servers and merging the others to keep them in line with them is pretty fair. If the number 1 server is substantially higher populated than the 2nd and 3rd then yes, merge some with them and work from there. The idea is to find a server (or a few) and use it as a “cap” to aim for and fill other servers to get them more in line with that.

It’s not only a lower tier problem but there is a huge gap in population between the higher and lower population servers. What should it matter if some server gets left untouched if it means that all of the servers end up on roughly equal footing?

Yes, people will prioritise population fixes over server pride as a whole but that doesn’t mean that server pride should be removed, it’s one of the biggest joys of the game mode and going the megaserver route may remove that community pride that most servers currently have. Merging would at least allow deleted servers to integrate and build up a new community and a new home to be proud of.

The north keep owner does have an advantage in the borderlands.

However the keep waypoints were changed making fire and air keeps feel like the invaders’ property. So the advantage narrows down to north team “owning” 2 towers while the invader teams only “own” 1 tower each.

Do you really see EB as perfectly balanced? Doesn’t Anzalias/Speldan feel weaker than any other corner?

Yes, the north Keep owner has the advantage but each server has its own map with its own north Keep which makes it fair.

I didn’t say EB was perfectly balanced, nor do I believe it is, but it is set as a 3 way map, each with equal zones which, for the most part, plays out pretty well (though servers can have a better tactical position than others).
