As someone who’s worked on Indy games in the industry (As a character artist, mind you. It isn’t my job to figure these things out.) I find it extremely difficult to comprehend how to make things actually skill-based. Liadri is an example of fake difficulty in that there are too many factors which the user cannot control in order to win the fight. It’s part memorization up until stage 2, when the RNG of the fight, the pulls, and the randomized shadowfall which make the fight difficult and impossible to predict on the fly. I’ve asked the community before how they would handle this, and short of redesigning every mechanic in the game to revolve around player skill there doesn’t seem to be much that you can do about it. When you try to see it from my perspective or that of any game developer, it really becomes an impossible task in a game that doesn’t revolve around skill as a core game mechanic.

Liadri is a poorly designed boss mainly because of the random screen blackouts, the overscripted nature of p1, the terrible camera inside the arena and the pulls are kind of a “meh” mechanic, especially since the orbs are basically untargetable…….. there are nice fights in this game though – soloing Lupus for example – and there is opportunity for many more.

the best route to take with fractal loot is giving us a reliable way to convert tokens into gold. this would reward people who’ve completed a lot of fractals previously and it scales decently with difficulty level. I’m thinking 10g/150 relics. consider implementing it in a way that avoids massive inflation.(and no, I don’t mean time-gating..) edit2: 80s/1 random lode bag/5 random t6 mat bags/etcetc for 12 relics.

edit: you don’t actually get any gold for killing Liadri OP.

Why would norn women not wear makeup?
Norn are pretty big on the body paint. And while im no historian, I assume modern makeup originated from tribal markings and the like. So really, in GW its more likely the norns would use makeup and the humans not.

I didn’t really think of posting about this before but after looking at norn faces the other day, I’m completely baffled. why not let humans have makeup while making norns look at least slightly natural.. you know so the lore isn’t completely botched.

It’s pretty hard playing guard tbh, at least the 8 crystal achi, I image it’d be much easier on say mesmer because the adds don’t … block all your damage? also there is a lot of bad rng in the fight like getting blinded and having no idea when to dodge and/or where to go and THE KITTENING CIRCLE SPAWNING IN THE CORNER. I’ll give this fight a 6/10, just because it’s hard. if it were easy then it would be like 2/10 coz the design is just utter crap. I don’t wanna imagine doing this on a necro for example..

edit:also the most bugged content in gaming history probably(tho someone will one-up me on that)

edit2:putting it in a dome which kittens your camera up and having a huge zerg beneath you causing fps drops, lag and effect-reduction don’t help either.

It’d also be nice if they dealt with the crap where hitting F to pick stuff up in combat doesn’t work worth crap. STILL. Or give the kitten dog a pickup animation to have to activate like we do too.

you can spam the key for it to work faster.. xd the entire combat system in gw2 is very unresponsive to be honest.. lots to improve on there

Never take anything Nuka Cola says serious, he’s blinded by hatred.
Tho some of the Voice acting in the game has gone wrong, many things went good actually, I don’t know who this Jenny is you’re talking about but I really like the Voice acting of the Sylvari Female how it is at the moment, it’s kinda cute.
But the phrase “It burns!” when you are set on fire actually sounds more like the Asura Female, and one Shout of the Guardian isn’t Voice Acted somehow.

Jennifer Hale… where have you been in the past 25 years? she is the VA for female sylvari and queen jennah. edit: you may recognize her in mass effect(shep) or diablo 3(leah) to name a few recent games

yeah I’d really like a “hold the line” fix. it sometimes says something completely different and I’ve heard it once actually saying “hold the line” and I main a guard..

idk bruhh, it could use some polish, but I’m mainly talking about the implementation and software here. certain battle quotes feel out of place and story dialogue can be lifeless in places, but I feel they’ve done a decent job overall. I really hate some of the cheesy battle quotes and the female charr player character voice(and that’s the most cheesy out of all of them to top it off) and my only l80 alt is a female charr ele duh -.-

Anything that goes into downed state is selfish, too. Unfortunately, it’s most often the players in Berserker gear who do go down the most…

aggro tends to concentrate on berserker players in pvt teams because they are the only ones dealing damage, this does not happen in full zerk teams though. also I’ll take someone downing every once in a while over you autoattacking at range with pvt gear

If developers were (among other things obviously, including making something cool), testing the waters as to public opinion about RNG by having one ticket’s main discount being pro-RNG, and if they believed the pro-RNG choice would carry the day, then it would be natural for them to attach to that choice the cooler content that they wanted to make. As it turns out, the pro-RNG choice didn’t carry the day, even with the cooler content to sweeten it. They ought to have realized that RNG isn’t as popular as they think, and they ought to have attached the cooler content that they wanted to make, to the anti-RNG choice.

He doesn’t like it that one of the choices is now gone, I am pointing out that such “real” choice by players in terms of making permanent changes in the game world has been part of the design goals for MMOs since forever, and (implicitly) that he ought to consider looking at it from a different angle, and more positively, as a development which successfully realizes (in its own way) a long-desired feature for MMOs.

I’m quite sad to see Jenny’s talent used on seraph soldiers and alike in the new content when she should’ve only voiced sylvari females.. queen jennah is cool, but doesn’t feel central enough to use such a prominent voice actor for, but that’s been done before release so old news old news…
anyway, it’s also quite a shame that you didn’t ask her to do new sylvari profession specific voiceover, a couple professions could’ve used them. for example guardians don’t say anything when activating virtues which makes me a sad panda
I commend you Anet for choosing to partner with the most prominent voice actress of our time though.

fractal staff is placed way too low on characters’ backs. it clips with the fractal capacitor and you can see it glitching into your character’s hands as it’s placed in a lower position to appear correctly when wielded.(your character first grabs the top of the staff which is ridiculous…)

this is a high-end skin. why do we have to deal with problems like this?

Here I’ll make it simple in case next time you want to make the stupid mistake of putting concepts to vote and then trashing the losing concept forever:

1 vote ticket is dropped in the daily chest for each tier of fractals beyond 10. So at level 10 fractals you’d get 1 vote, level 20, 2 votes.

This way people who are at level 48 would get potentially 10 votes a day, where people who barely scratch the surface of fractals would get 1 vote a day, and people who don’t run them at all don’t get to vote.

Well that’s unfair as well as apparently this story is going to affect more than just a fractal.

Aren’t there no champions (except maybe the squire dude from the Ascalon one)? Aren’t all end bosses legendary (or whatever the purple is)?

There are lots of champs in fractals. Uncategorized for example has a room with four (Rabbit, human, charr, jotun/ettin?) and there are others in a variety of them too!

the only champs in fractals are the rabbit, ettin, shaman and old tom in uncategorized, the drake in swamp whom nobody ever kills and dulfy in ascalon, the grawl shaman in volcanic but you can’t kill him and rabsovich. on average this is 2 champions/full fractal run, which is not a lot. i just hope that they give this to legendaries and make them drop better loot.

I keep hearing in the latest interviews constant mentioning of the word “reward” and very little about making the game more fun. This reminded me of an Extra Credits video I posted back discussing the nature of extrinsic and intrinsic gameplay, and the focus on rewards leads me to believe that intrinsic gameplay is taking a backseat to making players feel good about grinding. However, I also believe that the intrinsic vs extrinsic debate presents somewhat of a false dilemma when it comes to rewards and progression in RPGs.

Rewards should in and of themselves be a part of the gameplay experience, as both the means and the ends. In most RPGs, getting rewarded with higher stat gear and new skills for beating enemies was intrinsically fun because it was part of the problem solving and resource management that’s a very core of the genre. You get gear/skills so you can beat the next baddies. I think Zelda does this beautifully (if a bit redundantly) by introducing weapons as the players go through the game. GW1 does this quite well with the deck-building elements of the skill system.

The problem with GW2’s rewards system and gear progression is that it lets players be (slightly) more effective or look prettier in content they’ve already completed/problems they’ve already solved, and the effectiveness is only in dps. They don’t influence gameplay on a level that engages players to solve problems or play in different and interesting ways. They’re nothing more than carrots.

What worries me is that, as previously mentioned, in the latest articles and teasers indicate a fetishism with rewards over gameplay. There’s a fine line between rewarding players to engage them to do more and rewarding them to encourage them to repeat the mundane, and I believed they crossed the line with the transition from guildwars 1 to guildwars 2. The wording of the article and general attitude towards content design (evident by their lacing everything with achievement points) leads me to believe that they did so without knowing where they were to begin with or how good it was for the playerbase in their previous game.

Unwanted ascended rings are a pain – you cannot salvage, you cannot mf. They just sit there taking space, just in case. Trading them back for a pristine seems reasonable to me. Its 1/10 of what you would spend to buy them.
As for skins, you can make the number excessively high – 250 pristine, or 500 pristine – so that they still remain rare. But it would be something to work on rather than just pray for

well, for one thing, you can reduce agony damage to 1% at lvl10 and mobs have less hp so it’s faster and idiot-proof. and it gives the same amount of relics.
so no. not a viable way to do it. the only way to not kitten off everyone who already has multiple fractal weapons is to give us a way to transmute them into one another in the mystic forge.

i use my ranger as a mule and last time I got on it i swapped my pet and I noticed this and it felt very cheap, it’d annoy me to hell if I actually played the class.

Well, as a primary ranger player, no thanks! It would annoy me if there was an animation. Absolutely no reason to delay the swap as far as I can see.

any reason it couldn’t be done without delaying the swap? I’m basically asking for some gfx here, some ranger themed flowers and kitten appearing around the pet and slowly dissipating after spawn maybe

next to me is fine. just not out of thin aether maybe. spells have gfx, I think pet swaps should too.

I’d consider that just more unnecessary stuff unrelated to the activity at hand. When I’m switching pets it’s usually because my current pet has been killed and all I really care about is getting his replacement up and going as quickly as possible.

and this prevents you doing that in what way? necros have minion summon animations. why don’t rangers have pet swap animations?

Well, I also play a necromancer and really have no interest/use for the minion animation. Actually, I view it as a waste of time and distraction. Swapping pets doesn’t cost my character any time lost and that is better in my opinion.

Yeah, they don’t treat FOTM like a normal dungeon. It donesn’t count towards a dungeon daily/monthly and has it’s own seperate category. The rewards have always been ‘different’ also.

They just like to treat it as a seperate entity entirely and I have no idea what type of reward revamp they would be thinking about for FOTM. Even just putting the rewards back to where they were in January would be nice.

I think just making fractal skins transmutable into one another via the MF and giving us a way to get gold with fractal relics would be a good start since relics already scale decently with fractal level and this would retroactively reward players who’ve already done a lot of high level fractals.

riot does it. idk if it increases or decreases sales, but something slight might help encourage bulk purchases and still not alienate people who only have 10 bucks to spend.
I’m thinking 800 for 10$, 1620 for 20$, 2870 for 35$, 4150 for 50$ and 8400 for 100$…

But I would suspect them to look at and possibly rework the fractal rewards when they get around to updating and adding fractals later this year. I don’t believe they have forgotten about them, they just haven’t gotten to them yet.

And I agree, FOTM is not worth doing atm. Too much time and not enough reward any more. Used to be nice loot, but not any more.

The gold bonus does not apply to fractals no, we will however continue to update both content and rewards in Fractals as the year progresses. For example: champion loot bags do indeed apply to Fractals of the Mists.
