I believe the “class is brain dead easy to play” ONLY ever shows its ugly face when people lose to said class and are very bitter about it. Then forum spectators read said comment and take it as law because “dude on forum says it’s true” and then it just proliferates from there.

Ranger gets this often. People DONT like losing to Mesmer, ranger or any “FOTM” build. So naturally those classes are easy to play and take no skill and that’s the only reason they lost to one.

Sounds like someone had a bad time while playing Thief.

I think that’s most people playing thief right now in PvP, it feels like it’s in a really bad spot with it’s only saving grace being mobility.

Also this is super great. After the patch to burning 90% of the vocal playerbase was against how potent conditions have become compared to before. Got verbally assaulted quite a few times in game for running “cheese” builds because people just did not want to adapt.

Now it seems the condi-haters are the minority and that is great. Diversity is healthy for the game and I’m SO happy that conditions should be considered when meta-gaming now.

My problem with all of these build montages is that they’re in WvW. And a good 80% of the time they’re poorly gear, bad pvpers, or both.

It was exactly what I thought it might be. Super annoying 1v1. But trapper is already pretty annoying to deal with 1v1. Disengaging from this build should be near impossible lol. But I only played a few matches. Will test more on release.

I played this exact build BWE3 and I had the exact same thought process behind every point you’re making and even had the same reasoning behind giving up nature magic. Also for a while was doing the same thing with my runes but gave them up for Balthazar because I picked up settler ammy instead. I probably going to do something very similar but with settlers and traps with krait runes.

Should I wait HoT for crafting Gifts ?

Anyway, conditions need overall buffs, not nerfs. They just need to require investment from the build to reach those new highs.

On topic; I agree with this. Conditions should be life threatening IF their build focuses on bolstering conditions. Period.

Healing power coefficients need an adjustment across the board. Base healing skills should have high base healing but lower coefficients and other healing skills and regen should have lower base healing and really high Healing power coefficients. Similar to condition damage focused builds and conditions; healing power needs to be more impactful on a build that uses it more specifically and effectively.

All these builds around interrupts are in for a really big disappointment. It’s unreliable and it’s not even remotely close to a “fun” build. Interrupts should be instant cast, else it’s useless.

That’s disappointing man… Although if interrupt builds were more prevalent then all thieves, mes and wars would run them and everyone would complain haha.

This looks good. I might try this once I unlock DD on release. My initial iteration was tanky, too. Thanks!

I hate conditional skills and that’s basically why shortbow is so Unappealing to me.

My only suggestion is lower the cd a little bit on concussion shot and keep the daze or increase it a bit and keep the stun.

And quick shot is great except that conditional swiftness. Make it baseline.

I agree on all other points. Auto should apply 2 bleeds if the duration is staying that low, as well.

Settlers Ammy
Healing spring – lightning reflexes – flame trap – (spike or snake depending on what you’re doing) – entangle

Use A/D and S/T.

You don’t need a full bar of traps because bonfire and cleansing from LR, Entangle and healing spring will pretty much neuter most condi builds except burn guard and even then you just have to last through their cleanse and then they’re dead.

A full bar of traps is a complete waste.

It’s not garbage. I’ve never been killed by short bow rangers in my life. Period.

Well yeah there would be a lot of work involved but if their focus for future expacs aren’t just moar elite specs then they’d have all the time they would have had to invest into that idea as opposed to a new race. I don’t see a new race happening. As fun as the idea sounds to half of the GW2 community I really don’t think that a new race is appealing enough to bring in new players OR fill hours of gameplay for the typical GW2 player now. New areas and new elite specs are going to be what new content consists of.

What if… They made if so the damage break down applied dmg burn does to the skills associated to them? That way when a guy gets jumped by 3 burn guards and posts how OP burns are you’ll see a more detailed reason as to what skills they need to worry about in the future.
Because if you are playing against a burn guard and don’t die to his burst but frequently encounter him, then it’s going to look like he just vomited a crap ton of burn onto you all at once from the breakdown.

PvP Comparison: WoW and GW2?

I don’t understand where the diversity in WoW is… Specially in a competitive environment. There are dominant comps and everyone plays those or loses. Skill matters little in 90% of the cases. And as far as skill selection; you have a few things you can choose as talents and everything else is dictated by the spec you chose. If you see a combat rogue you can kitten near guarantee what he’s planning to do.

Pve is boring to me unless my goal is to get better looking gear and I’m 100% sure GW2 has a better social environment than wow.

Despite GW2’s shortcomings it’s still a very fun and active game.

I would like to see a sPVP rating system, though. That’d be neat.

Largos. Hands down. And the reason why is probably the larger reason most seem to over look: Appeal.

If they make an existing race playable and they never have plans to add in a way to change your existing characters race then the new race has to be appealing enough to warrant rolling a whole new toon even if you’ve got every class. That appeal would be appearance.

There’s about 100 people tops who would reroll for the races you suggested but I promise loads would reroll for a Merfolk-Elf hybrid with wings by default.

Yeah, sorry… I should have clarified that this was intended for sPvp. I don’t have a lot of experience in WvW and I realize that interrupting functionally isn’t optimal in pve haha.

Yeah that was my problem running any scenario in my head was that the interrupt procs were just a bonus and I was primarily a condition build.

But my problem is that if pulmonary impact doesn’t stack on itself then spamming interrupts isn’t a good idea. And also getting rid of conditions and my choice between impacting disruption and escapist’s absolution. Without ID then interrupts aren’t going to mean AS much as just applying conditions by any other method and this will just be a p/p condition build. Which is okay still but I really wanted ID to work well. haha

Just some thoughts… I’m not a pro thief by any means.

This would totally make venoms more versatile. This is similar to how wow has some of its off-GCD instant skills setup and I really like that. Like a persistent cooldown where you get a charge of the skill back every certain amount of time.

Thanks guys! Not experienced with thief at all haha. But my idea was essentially to do a carrion build with DD for the rupture on interrupt and the torment on interrupt. Now considering that, would it be worth making steal daze for a more reliable interrupt over taking the confusion on steal? And also, given the primarily condi nature of this idea, would it be more worthwhile to take p/p for ranged condi pressure and just use headshot for my on-demand interrupt?

Edit: I actually think the trait is for pulmonary impact. I don’t recall, really, and I don’t have the means to look it up right this moment. Heh. Also, this could work with d/p as well, really.

Edit2: additionally this kind of doesn’t work the way I want it to if pulmonary impact doesn’t stack on itself. I know it’s a delayed hit and I’m sure it has its own debuff icon but can I get more than one going or does it replace itself? Was anyone able to test this?

Are interrupt builds a viable or were at one time a viable strategy? If so, does anyone have a build link to a a sort of “skeleton” of a build that would involve focusing on interrupting?

I’m thinking this would involve sw/p with whatever as a second set. (Pistol Whip)

Burn Stacking is Broken

I don’t think the solution is having cleanse remove the “most dangerous” condition first because, for one, that is different conditions in different situations. And two, that would basically render builds like burn guard completely useless and really any other condi build that relied on doing most of their damage through a singular condition.

An honest suggestion towards this would be to have more cleanses that got rid of particular conditions. Similar to how there are a load of cleanse-like abilities and traits that remove cripple or immobilize.

There are more people running dps builds than condi builds still. And I still can’t believe there is still the notion going around that it takes less skill to play condi than dps… That’s literally only something people who are bad at pvp say.

And as far as condi application goes id have to say burn guard needs toned down A BIT. Not a lot, just a bit. I understand their ONLY condi is burn and that’s why they have so many applications for it and their class mechanic is 1/3 based on it but I mean… I can get 7-9 stacks of burning just from three weapon skills with scepter torch. Without getting close to anyone.

Other than that, you got freakin outplayed because you’re not used to that classes condi builds. Sorry.

Seriously… No one who thinks themselves competitive in anyway complains about condi damage. And no cele ele is not a condi build.

I agree with you that old scepter 3 was great for power build. Hit pretty hard for the cooldown imo. Also scepter autos were fast and it felt good. But I switched to axe and it definitely feels more powerful. I was stuck in between dagger and scepter for quite some time… I didn’t want to be in the enemies face with dagger and scepter didn’t do as much dmg as I wanted. Although blood bond was good with scepter power build.

But I did get hit for 9k very recently from BS and that was with 1200 toughness ammy. That’s obviously not common and I probably had vuln on me as well.

So thief can open with a potential 7k hit from BS out of stealth. Yeah, I guess that doesn’t sound THAT great but it’s not bad. But then does the thief just run away? Because a thief can’t one shot some one with backstab alone it makes thief do crap damage?

Mesmers aren’t doing all of their burst with one skill, either…

I would have loved this too, but we all know this isn’t happening. Even if they were to invest the time and effort into making a open pvp server it would require a ton of effort and money to make happen.

I think this has about a snowballs chance in heck of happening. It’s just something you have to get over about GW2.

It’s not going to get better. People are raging because they get cced into a wall until they’re dead, immob for 5 seconds while getting 1-shot or melted by some broken build while the camera is stuck in a tree or the ceiling of the Khylo tower. The game used to be much more fun than this but balance has always been getting worse.

THings are not going to change with Mesmers being able to moa people twice in a row.

Dude you can’t give all of those outlier examples of a bad match and say that any of that is a consistent way to lose.

Some of the things people complain about in this forum happens so infrequently or not at all.

I’m starting to think I must be in the perfect MMR bracket where every at least tries the whole game even if they’re bad.

Even my bad games seem fair and good. I’ve had maybe one match where someone was mean or rude and it was a guy on the other team who WON. Lol

Ohhhhh man I feel you. Seriously. That is exactly what I felt when GW2 first came out… Never leveled past 35 with any character because everything just felt… Boring. And I came from WoW as well at that point and before that EQ2 where I had at least 30+ skills on my bar and in WoW I had 7 action bars with macros and items!

I left of course, similarly to what others have mentioned here. I came back quite a bit later and all of a sudden it just clicked. It may have been PvP that did it, though.

In open world you’ll likely never NEED more than one weapon set and MAYBE your heal skill… But in literally every other game mode you’re using your whole kitten kit and BOTH weapon sets.

For thief that’s 10 weapon skills and 5 utilities plus your mechanic which is essentially two more skills. That’s 17 skills… Very similar to most other popular MMOs as far as “the amount of skills you get”. Most classes have way more than thief, too. Like ele and engi.

And as far as stats go, yes, there are about half of what most other MMOs have but in this game those non-primary stats are carried as components in your skills. Avoidance, blocked, dodging, immunity and different boons will counter certain conditions or situations similarly to how you might need more of one stat to counter another persons stat.

This game had a lot more active parts to combat that you haven’t yet had the experience using.

I can absolutely PROMISE it gets more intricate.

If I’m not mistaken he mentioned on quite a few of the “healing only” skills that they would get some sort of extra component like damage or a condition. Even if all the solely healing skills just did a little bit of damage it’d be better.

I think the opposite direction. Druid is one of the best designed elite specs this far. Especially the animations you are complaining about. A healing blossom, I totally love it. They couldn’t have made it any better.

I totally agree. I love healing spring it’s gotta be my favorite ranger skill and the seeds blossoming are a wonderful addition.

Why not doing something with settlers and conditions? Just cause you can’t zerk out and have your healing be the best it can be, doesn’t mean you’ll zero damage. In fact, I can most certainly surmise that NO ONE will accept a Druid who does nothing but heal. Forum rangers wanted utility and here it is.

As for me, this is exactly what I expected and it compliments the build I run most heavily very nicely.

How does condi engi out perform in group fights compared to a trap survival ranger?
And why are rangers widely considered to be one of the best 1v1 classes in sPVP?

Exclude taunt. It isn’t as large as a factor as apparently 90% of the community thinks it is.

I’m genuinely curious because I’m not really well versed with engi and I rarely lose 1v1.

No hostility here, btw. I just want more information.

I main an engi spvp but love my ranger more, so I can shed a little light on this.
I (engi) can move quicker between points/fights and escape more easily than a trap ranger with elixir S/stealth. The engi condi build also doesn’t need to stand on top of the trap or rely on the traps and still deal massive cleave (more so than a trap). If I take mortar kit I have group AOE buffs and debuffs along with orbital strike which is a blast finisher.
Like others have said, a ranger is def powerful, especially those condi burst trap rangers, they really give me tough time, but other classes can do it better.

Ah yeah probably the only part i hate about ranger is that we don’t seem to have easy access to movement skills without giving up utility. I also wasn’t even considering mortar as condi but that doesn’t make sense.

Well I’m not talking about fixes and buffs… I’m talking about overdoing it. Creating a situation where ranger is like ele is right now and everyone whines about us and how were being carried by our mechanics. Even though when pally became OP you could still tell who the good players were and who was average or crappy. Here, no one thinks ranger takes skill JUST because of taunt. So if we have taunt AND were OP? Yeah good luck seeming respectable unless you stream.

By being overbuffed, at least you can be good for 6 months vs. trash for 3 years. If you’re lucky Druid could be a good class for 3 years

Well on top of the stigma that Ranger is the “beginner” and “easiest” class to play we’ll also have to contend with the accusation that on TOP of that were being handed our victories because we’re “OP” if we were to get buffed too much.

And it’s possible for us to get over tuned… I mean, they gave us taunt and everyone cries about it like it’s our 1-button-instant-kill. Stuns a stun, brah. You got beat cause I’m better not ’cause of a 2s stun.

If you want to be underdog, you can always intentionally make your build worse. On the other hand, I will be happy to see Druid be as good as ele and guardian in group fight and still can hold on their own in 1v1.

Winning as an underdog is only winning if others know they has the “advantage” but still lost or was proven wrong! Lol
