Move speed out of combat is faster than in BDO, at least, especially since it’s easy to have swiftness up 100% of the time. Haven’t played any other MMOs besides that one recently to compare.

Been thinking this as well and came up with an idea that the 3 least run fractals in a day from 50-100 would be like “golden fractals” the next day. From these you’d get a gold each. If you just want to do the quick daily swamps for champ chest you’re allowed to do so but you’ll miss out on the potential 3 gold.

This is a good idea
I’d modify it a bit, but yeah great idea 10/10

Ele isn’t particularly good against Vale Guardian, which is why I mentioned that boss specifically. A lot of elementalist’s DPS relies on the enemy staying relatively still, because many of their skills are AoE’s that deal damage over 4+ seconds.

This is only true when the ele is using staff. D/W ele does not rely much on the target being stationary. Burning speed does 75% of its damage instantly, and air overload is a moving AoE for half the duration. And you can lead the boss with it so that it still has to run through the full 600 diameter once it drops. Only Wildfire damage takes a notable hit against a moving target, and it’s only every 15-20 seconds, which lines up quite nicely with the natural rotation (pull boss to spot and then keep it there for a bit, repeat. Use wildfire when you reach the next spot.). So ele still has highest dps. Thief closes the gap a bit, since it loses literally nothing on a moving target, but guardian takes a much bigger hit than ele does. And engineer takes a hit too. So maybe thief and ele tie for dps in the later phases of VG? But they’re both still way ahead of every other class.

Meanwhile, d/w ele has more range than other melees (and can take lightning flash without losing dps), making it much easier to avoid damage while doing dps, so you shouldn’t be dying any more on ele than on another class.

And then if you ARE using staff, it’s because you’re doing green circles. ie you need someone ranged. And staff ele still has the most ranged dps against VG during the moving phases.

Doubt that a Tempest in maurauder will do more dps than a Guardian, a Thief or another Tempest in zerker gear.

Well, first of all, I didn’t say full marauder. I said marauder armor. Marauder armor is only a loss of 2.5% dps for a gain of 2k health. But now that I do the math, even full marauder, or in other words a gain of 6k health, only costs you 9% dps, which would still result in dps higher than any other class.

This is probably weird, but...

But for raids you want to have as little toughness as possible so it wouldn’t mess up with boss agro.

This is only really true for 1 boss out of 6. And even for that 1 boss, Vale Guardian, having around 1400 is usually fine, as the tank typically takes more than that, due to various traits that increase toughness. But be able to lower your toughness if needed. Some players only run 1200ish.

If you’ve already got the utility that the heavies provide (ie you aleady have your banners and facet of nature), you’re better off adding some health to your build than swapping classes. Tempest with marauder’s armor still does more dps than any other class.

Where are you trying to survive? Open PvE?

In any case, for an offensive build, you just want vitality.
But for a defensive build, you want some of all 3. Each stat is worth more when combined with the others. The more vitality you have, the more your toughness is worth, and vice versa. I use a blend of shaman’s and apothecary’s on my condi tank ele.

As for healing power in raids, depends on your group setup. If you’re the primary healer, there’s really no such thing as too much healing power. The tradeoff for more damage just isn’t worth it. You’re 50-80% of the group’s healing, and like 5% of the group’s dps. You contribute more to dps by keeping everything smooth and everyone topped off on health.
On the other hand, if you are not the primary healer, or you have two healers, then 1k healing power is probably more than you need.

Each class can play different roles

Except thief who is the only class that doesn’t have a spot in raids, and warrior who has exactly 1(one) role.

Thief is great for wing 1, and can do two roles on the first boss. Less good for wing 2 due to increased demand for utility over sheer dps, but you should have no trouble finding a spot in a wing 1 raid

Changing the level of every single item, of every single npc, in addition to all the rebalancing and changing every damage and stats formula. It would be much easier, and more effective—who doesn’t like leveling up?—, to simply increase the amount of exp gained, if you want people to reach level cap faster.

I almost never find chronos in boon duration gear.
Herald’s value indeed goes down quite a lot if the chrono has that, and is no longer near mandatory, though it still gives good fury, ferocity, and additional might and protection, and great cc. Anyway I’d put tempest in the #3 spot in that case.

ok an 3condis one being an exp. engineer? then at fight during split phase all on blue condis red and any paticuler person pull the green guy? anything I miss

for Vale Guardian, yes. not for the other 5 bosses
Engineer is nice to have at VG for easy knockbacks on seekers, and the AoE heal for ally sustain. Engineer is more generally applied to any group, though other class combinations can work just as well.

Thief with Invigorating Precision and marauder’s gear. Nothing like Vaulting a group of mobs for a full heal.

This is the specific build I use, though it’s primary focus is mobility. It just so happens to also be very good at staying alive.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vZUQJAWVn8lClOhNOBGOB0zhFqiqLCCgDYu67+yfLHHsqD-TBDBQBQ4IAkHNB6THQAeAAVSNBJcIA0oyAFqaDAuAAYZ/RpwZUCmFlcECQwCA-e
I might swap a few traits out (acro 1 and maybe daredevil 1) if I wanted to be a little more defensive, and possibly swap out a couple of utilities for specific encounters. I also keep a stack of mussel soup handy. And do note that the oil used is actually peppermint oil, due to its extremely low cost.

If I really want to faceroll easymode solo the entire world at once, I use my condi tank ele:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vFAQJBIhdSfJU0A2fJY2AwhJW+AM356d9vSMCeAbghDQAo/B-TRiAABdq6DAPAgD1CcqaAQfCAaUJYZK/SUHAM7PQIAFrBA-e
again, tuning crystal is actually tuning icicle due to extremely low cost
Variations: When I don’t need THAT much defense (i.e. most of the time), I take fire (top, top, top) instead of earth.
swap signet of fire for cleansing fire and soothing disruption for more AoE. then of course other encounter specific swaps.
Also flash freeze (frost aura + protection) + mussel soup = 60% damage reducton

Chronomancer (quickness and alacrity)
Warrior (banners and efficient source of might. also provides Empower Allies)
Herald (boon duration and efficient source of fury. also provides Assassin’s Presence and can provide protection)

You also want CC for breakbars. Herald, berserker, and chrono happen to also be very good at breaking bars.

is toughness gear really worth using?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

reikken.4961

To them I’ll say this: any where, where damage is so high that passive damage mitigation might be interesting, toughness will do diddly squat for your survival.

Wyverns. Multiple Mordrem snipers. Multiple anything with immobilize.

Any of those things you just mentioned are exactly things I was refering to. Toughness will at best give you 1 extra hit you can take, for a huge damage reduction trade off.

Dying in two hits is a LOT better than dying in 1 hit.

Anyway, there is gear with defensive stats that you can use without destroying your dps.

Marauder’s is the most notable. Especially for ele, thief, and guardian. You can get 6x as much in health as you lose in damage. ie gain 30% health lose 5% dps. Crusader’s is also nice if you really want to tank it up.

Then there’s carrion, rabid, and trailblazer’s. A condition damage build only needs condition damage and duration to do a lot of dps, leaving you free to use some defensive stats.

For the hard fractals, like high level cliffside and etc, unless you’re running them with a dedicated group that runs them all the time (yeah right), having a real healer helps a lot. Also, though not very frequently, I have seen people in LFG looking for a healer for a high level fractal.

If you’re only interested in running swamp and molten boss for the dailies, like most people are, then you go maximum dps. For that, people want chrono, warrior, herald, and tempests.

For raids, every party wants to have a chrono, warrior, herald, druid, and some tempests. Necros and engineers are also commonly sought. I’d say chrono is the most in demand, in my experience.

In addition, a party member bringing a party-wide toughness buff (i.E Banner of Defense) will increase the aggro generated due to the fact that mobs are programmed to prioritize players with high toughness. So with the additional toughness plus the amount of damage you’re doing, it can pull aggro really fast and it will be harder to drop. There was a time when Warriors do a massive amount of DPS with GS while having the highest toughness — they were the ultimate tank because you can never pull aggro off of them. So yeah, toughness is bad for Thief in group scenario.

Just curious. Has this been established being true now outside of raids?

I know this is how it is in raids, but it’s been debated a lot how much this is the case in open world and dungeons.

It’s quite true. I get way more aggro than the rest of the party when running my condi tank ele build.

I don’t see why a party wide toughness buff would have any adverse effect though. Sure your toughness goes up… but so does everyone else’s, so you still have the lowest.

That doesn’t make any sense. The point of trying to get high crit chance so that your high power and high ferocity can apply a large amount of damage. Sacrificing Power and Ferocity in favor of Prec doesn’t make a whole lof sense in terms of DPS. Sure you crit a lot, but your damage is mediocre because yo sacrificed Power and Ferocity.

First of all, did you even look at the amounts? The precision advantage is an extra 2/3 higher than the sum of the power and ferocity advantage. Secondly, you aren’t sacrificing all of your power and ferocity. You sacrifice a very small amount. You still have a lot of it. more than enough to be multiplied by the precision.

And more than that, at very high power and ferocity values (ie what you have when running full zerker), the most valuable stat for dps is actually precision, until you cap it. This is why you’ll frequently see on maximum dps build guides to take a few assassin’s trinkets to max out crit chance.

Also to top it all off, thief has a precision to ferocity conversion trait, so that 130 precision is actually 130 precision and 13 ferocity, making the difference 130 precision vs 30 power and 37 ferocity.

Yeah, in a raid I’d rather have my allied thieves and eles run some extra health anyway. You can up your base 11.6k hp to 15k for less than 5% dps loss. Failing to meet the dps check is due to failing the mechanics or people going down.

As for the actual phrase, “vitality gained per dps lost”, it’s a ratio.
I’m saying that, for example, if marauder’s grants 300 vitality and 3% less dps and valkyrie’s grants 400 vitality and 6% less dps, then that’s 100 vit per 1% dps lost on marauder’s and 67 vit per 1% dps lost on valkyrie’s. (not actual numbers, just a rough estimate without any fact checking, to get the idea across)

Having trouble surviving with no support

I don’t get your “vitality gained for dps lost”

Perhaps this is a better way of explaining it:

If you’re in zerker’s and sub in valkyrie’s, for every 100 points of vitality you gain, you lose 100 precision.
If you sub in marauder’s instead, for every 100 points of vitality you gain, you lose 30 power and 50 ferocity and gain 30 precision.

The net differences:
130 precision (marauder’s) vs 30 power and 50 ferocity (valkyrie’s)
And the precision is better dps so long as it doesn’t put you significantly above 100% crit chance. (because any precision past 100% crit is wasted)

And no, I read your entire post every time.

ALSO, the crit chance gets you an additional bonus for trying to stay alive: A greater portion of your dps is coming from crits, so you get more healing from invigorating precision
