So at first marauder is better vit and damage than valk, now it’s only better damage, as long as you don’t have more than 100% critchance.
No, the only statement amendment is the not exceeding 100% crit chance.
Here, I’ll re-state it, fully comprehensive:
As long as you aren’t exceeding 100% crit chance, marauder’s is better than valkyrie’s for vitality gained per dps lost.
To clarify, swapping any one piece of gear from berserker’s to valkyrie’s will get you more vitality than swapping it to marauder’s and will also get you a larger dps loss. The dps loss is bigger than the vitality gain on valkyrie’s, relative to marauder’s. In other words, swapping less valkyrie’s vs swapping more marauder’s such that the vitality gain is the same, the dps loss is less with the marauder’s. Or if you make the dps loss the same, the marauder’s version will get you more vitality.
Yes, valkyrie’s grants you higher potential damage—bigger crits—but the average dps is lower.
Also, possibly relevant: Assuming the respective conditions are met equally often, flawless strike is a much better dps increase than side strike.

Daredevil is the best class in the game for open world pve. You have by far the best mobility of any class, and then can have good sustain and defense while still doing high damage.
I haven’t leveled a thief from scratch in a long time, so about that I am not sure.
also marauder is notably better than valkyrie for health gain per dps lost
I doubt that.
If you go staff, or even S/D marauder makes probably more sense – but you trade in power, vitality and ferocity in comparison to zerker or valk or zerker/valk like my thief (pic).
Thing is that you never ever have to worry about crit chance in this meta – so if you have got problems with marauder you probably should replace some stuff with valk. I bet it’s no damage loss ;)
Ok, caveat. As long as your crit chance isn’t exceeding 100%
then marauder’s is better dps than valk
Crit chance can indeed be easy to come by, and with a full suite of buffs (spotter, banner, fury) plus Signet of Agility and Keen Observer, full zerker’s can reach 100% by merely swapping the chest piece and helm to marauder’s.
And of course to minimize the chances of wasting crit chance, one would not use precision runes or consumables, opting for ferocity and power instead.
and as for your stat comparison, you seem to be underestimating the value of crit chance
(edited by reikken.4961)
marauder’s + fruitcake and sigil of air instead of zerker’s + oil and sigil of accuracy
anyway no, marauder’s is mathematically provable to not be a damage increase; it is most certainly a damage decrease over using some combination of zerker’s and assassin’s. However, the damage decrease is indeed very small relative to the gain in health.
also marauder is notably better than valkyrie for health gain per dps lost
As for the topic question, Invigorating Precision is the best thing ever for staying alive. That plus escapist’s absolution gives you tons of staying power.
(edited by reikken.4961)
Why sigil of energy? I don’t understand why anyone would take it in any build. It gets you 1 extra dodge every 40 seconds at best. unless you’re running Latent Stamina, which doubles its value
On the subject of new emotes, I want one that’s appropriate for acting like you just took a lot of damage. Or even an outright /die.
Solo lvl 100 fractal, good luck
Here’s something much harder:
solo 94, 82, or 69
(cliffside)
buffing the meta pvp build is a terrible idea
and turning magnetic wave into magnetic aura is also a bad idea as it’s a buff to aura share (which is already dominant) and a nerf to everything else
How is it 10 times the work?
People are saying they don’t care about clipping issues. They don’t care that it might not match perfectly with some random obscure piece of gear. Just add a warning that it might not look good when mixed with other sets, split the outfit into different pieces to make a skin set, then copy paste for the 3 weights—they don’t need to be different between light/med/heavy—and there you go. Demands have been met.
At least you learned the gambling lesson with ectos and not BL chests, or worse, a actual casino.
it can actually be worse than an actual casino. since you can buy gems and turn them into gold to use to gamble ectos
For PvE? Just press 1-5 on your keyboard until the enemy is dead.
This does not work for anything difficult
In this game’s PvE, for any difficult content, there is almost always an alternative to playing more skillfully or using builds better able to handle difficulty: get more people. Taxi taxi taxi. Zerg up, join trains, etc.
There are, however, a few places and times where this is either not possible or not practical. The most notable example is high level fractals. If your party is full zerker in cliffside 94, you’re not going to have a good time.
If Mike O’Brien isn’t full of kitten, then yes, we will.
also making it scale hardest with the condition damage stat.
Nope, burning still scales the least with condition damage.
The amount of condition damage needed to double the base damage is…
353 for torment
367 for bleeding
558 for poison
848 for burning
and 286-792 for confusion
Put another way, as compared to base damage, 1000 condition damage gives you a…
283% increase for torment
273% increase for bleeding
179% increase for poison
118% increase for burning
In other words, burning has high base damage and lower scaling.
Anyway, the main strength of burning isn’t in its scaling, but rather in its intensity. It does a lot of damage for a shorter time, as opposed to bleeds and poisons which tend to do damage over a longer duration, making them less deadly to players. Confusion is the same. Short duration, high intensity. You have to cleanse it fast or die, while bleeding and poison gives you more time. Similar issues exist in PvE, where a 20 second bleed isn’t going to matter if the target is dead in 8 seconds, while a 6 second burn will do its full damage.
So I think Anet heard me for Trib mode. I’ve done Zone 1 like 8 times today, and the starter video has disappeared. Maybe it’s just a 1 time daily thing now?
The intro video for tribulation mode has always been just the logo as far as I can recall.
You know, I never stopped to try to figure out why the icon for the trait is Ridley. until now. That’s his portrait from Super Smash Bros Brawl.
asking in the professions section of these forums usually will get you what you need also
what are “more travel items”?
the broom? the teleport to friend?
It’s fun if you know what you’re getting into (which should be quite clear after the very first jump) and are doing it with a group of friendly people. I had blast while repeatedly dying horribly and watching the rest of my party run into traps as well.
If they are not interested on an mmo, but are interested in 8bit platfotmers, dont they already have hudreds if not thousands of options to choose from?
No. SAB is rather unique in that it’s 3D. For 3D platformers, there are N64 era games, and that’s pretty much it. Ever single retro styled platformer that gets released by the hundreds nowadays is 2D.
I’d love to see SAB as a standalone game. Especially because I have some friends with no interest in GW2 who would love it.
In fairness, GW2 is free now, and you can do SAB without really playing GW2. A level 2 character is all you need. And you don’t even need to download the whole game
staff, for static field
and then lightning hammer for another??
and then the hammer someone else picks up for yet another!
I don’t like scepter because you provide exactly 0 pressure in melee. with dagger you can lightning whip or burning speed or something. a lot of strong melee skills. and staff you can at least drop AoEs under yourself. but with scepter, if someone gets in your face, you can’t do much of anything. Well you can drop a point blank phoenix that hits hard if you land it just right, but you only get one shot.
I went through 2-3 just fine yesterday, taking the long route in normal mode. no flute. slingshot only
bombs, however, are melee only
(edited by reikken.4961)
The same argument can be made towards power/ toughness. If you can block a melee attack whats the point of having toughness?
condi can be blocked too
everything that mitigates power damage also applies to condi damage, except armor and protection
and ditto for condi except it’s cleanses and resistance
I can play almost any game with my PS3 controller
haven’t tried this game, but I imagine it would be decent with action camera, as long as I don’t need to use ground targeted skills on arbitrary locations. like Shadowstep
I made a character to level up via crafting
There you go. Problem solved. That’s all you need. It doesn’t matter that it doesn’t have anything else. You could have a lv 2 alt with 10 inventory slots and no equipment, and it would be maximum strength for SAB.
18k backstab in PvP? wow I am impress
and rofl @ the 1k backstabs
I spend more time raiding than doing anything else in this game, and yet, I would rather have a new Super Adventure Box world than a new raid wing.
just thought I’d throw that out there
I got 40 bauble bubbles today. and I have no idea how
Again.??? Darned if they do, darned if they don’t. There really is no way make the SAB demanders happy is there?
are you for real?
this is very clearly a complaint about not getting it (for very long)
While I myself don’t agree with the complaint, this is only a case of “darned if they don’t”.
(edited by reikken.4961)
overload air is a permanent 17 stacks
then Weak Spot has no cooldown
Well, if you’re looking for criticism,
The damage increase we take as a result of this varies based on the power level of the opponent
This is actually independent of power, as far as the percent increase
Our survivability comes from sustain
and protection!
Also, being ranged is still a notable advantage. even if less than in many other games
and that’s about all I got
insights as a currency are fine
as a measure of skill, however, they are awful for several reasons. For instance, you can only get them once per boss per week. Killing a boss multiple times in a week gets you none, even though it can give you plenty of experience. You can also do perfect runs with a static group once a week and not know the fight as well as someone who’s gotten only two kills, if those two kills were gotten after trying to carry/teach bad groups over hours of failed attempts.
It’s mainly only useful as a measure of how long ago you got your first boss kill.
Fire and Air offer everything to damage and nothing to survivability where as Water and Earth offer everything to survivability and nothing to damage.
Tempest and Arcane offer a mix of both
see if this works for you:

Solid Ocean is the only fractal I can recommend soloing beyond scale 10. After that, enemies get too much health for the endeavor to be worth your time. Jade Maw’s health, on the other hand, does not increase much with the scale. It’s also one of the shortest even with a group. by far the quickest solo
this is a “dead horse”
Like what if heal-crits offered more HP over maximum HP or maybe ablative armor ontop of your HP that subtracts directly from crit hits.
only suggestion in the thread that I like
this would be pretty great. I’ve always liked shields more than heals anyway
I don’t need to be casting a shout to get stuck in pvp matches
usually need to /sit or use burning retreat or something to get unstuck
For every boss, the first time I killed it was in a pug. (except Gorseval)
I have the stuff and the pve ( especially pvp) experience … Yet no one wants me when i do LFG
elaborate please
I don’t really WvW, so all I can really tell you is that it’s possible to get objectively better stats by mixing in some marauder’s gear. because its stat totals are higher (and unlike celestial, it has no wasted stats, and a great distribution of stats)
As an example, this has slightly higher in all stats: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vFAQFAWn0XCdOgVOAGOAcYilGAzdy2ZDtCFgAQMk4IUD+BA-T1SGQBA4BAAi9HKnOgpoEMJKhqnqKBStiCqMAJKFg2FAoIKZIDg+YA-w

I’ve noticed on my engineer that it seems to have more of an effect on regen than it does actual heals
Healing skills (slot 6 on the skill bar) as a general rule are not affected much by healing power. Additionally, blast/leap finishers on water fields are barely affected by healing power.
All other sources of healing tend to have reasonable healing power scaling.
If you want to make healing more interesting, make the act of healing itself more interesting. And there’s already some pretty decent gameplay out there, mind you. Auras are by far the least interactive way of healing that we currently have.
What do you think the most interesting way of healing is in the game at the moment? And could you think of any way to improve it or a new way?
hard to say. maybe blasting water fields, not counting engineer’s healing turret. blast finishers don’t really scale with healing power though.
I don’t play druid, but their heals look somewhat interesting.
One thing I can say is that in my dedicated raid healer 1500 healing power build, my main heals have a much smaller radius (180-240), so I actually have to pay attention to where people are. (as opposed to the 600 radius on auras)
maybe ice elemental’s command skill. And this one is very easily improved. It is delayed by an enormous amount (we’re talking like 6 seconds), making it generally pretty useless, and it’s very hard to notice anyway. Also doesn’t scale with healing power.
Oh, I’ve got it. Ventari tablet, and those fragment things that you can walk over to get heals. I think I’ll pick that as the game’s most interesting healing.
also Thief’s venoms is an interesting concept, but it’s not that interesting to actually use. could be improved in a number of ways
(edited by reikken.4961)
One idea I had while thinking about this though, was what if you could “Critical” Heal? In the same way that precision and Fury scale with damage, perhaps a way to make the Healing Power stat more interesting would be to actually DECREASE its base power, but allow you to heal for double or more on a critical. I would be really interested to hear some opinions on this. Thanks for reading
That would be completely worthless and awful. Most people do not build extra health, so you can already easily full heal people if you’re investing in healing power. Letting me randomly heal for double would usually be useless. Especially coupled with a baseline reduction. You now randomly fail to adequately heal or randomly overheal. In addition, and perhaps more importantly, it forces people wanting to heal all into the same build. Precision and ferocity is now required for healing power to be good. Heal + condi? Nope. Heal + tanky? Nope. And we already have very poor distribution of healing power in gear stat combos. This would only make that problem worse.
If you want to make healing more interesting, make the act of healing itself more interesting. And there’s already some pretty decent gameplay out there, mind you. Auras are by far the least interactive way of healing that we currently have.
I loved stumbling upon hidden areas like this. was my favorite part of the game, and a big part of why I came back for HoT
Builds are diverse enough already that the game doesn’t need it.
Really?
yeah
if you expand from including only 100% optimal to including 90% optimal builds as well, there are TONS.
I personally regularly use 7 very different elementalist builds. (and no, I don’t count pvp staff healbot and pvp d/f healbot as different builds)
(edited by reikken.4961)
Interesting. I’d like to see these calculations. or more specifically, the method. Mind posting them to google sheets or something?
Also the rotations I posted were for no alacrity or quickness. and do not include utility skills. For maximum dps, I believe one would add glyph of storms and ice bow.
Builds are diverse enough already that the game doesn’t need it.
Anyway if I wanted to level an alt in fractals, I’d just mention to the rest of the party that I know what I’m doing (noting that I have a personal reward level of 100 and have completed all fractal achievements) and that I have decent gear on and am quite able to pull my weight.
On the other hand, if you don’t know what you’re doing or don’t have decent gear, the rest of the party is fully justified in not taking you if they don’t want to.
