What I would like to see is content appropriate for all levels of player in GW2. What I would like to see removed is catering to a mythical hardcore player in open world PvE so that you get things like Grenth, the Karka Queen, or the new Teq, large failure fests that empty that part of the open world. I call them mythical because you see signs of their life on the forums, but they are nowhere to be found in-game. They are simply “gone” like everyone else when the content becomes more “interesting”.

The open world is not about crushing challenge. Rather, it should be appropriately challenging for the player and situation you find there, i.e., a wide diversity of players who are not in voice chat and do not work from an interrupt list. Truly challenging content should be found in tiered instances. This way everyone can be satisfied. It’s one of those things that’s very simple and straightforward, but very difficult for Anet to get.

OP, you had me until you said roll specific classes. As someone who has been playing MMOs since Everquest BETA, the death of the “holy trinity” is a good thing. Required classes for groups is horrible, and the biggest attraction of GW2 to me and many other players.

I definitely think some harder content would be cool. It’s funny to say this (as this was a game where very few cared about PVE content), but some of the best PVE design I’ve seen was in Warhammer, Tomb of the Vulture Lord. Man, this was challenging content when it came out. Complex fights that required precision, cooperation, and little to no room for error. I’d love to see some content of this caliber added.

Ok, but if you just 5 zerker wars smashing keys, then it isnt hard content. Its a fine line to walk but making combo fields and walls that only certain classes have will most certainly be the best way to go.

Also, it would be the only content that requires a certain group, The other 99% of the games content can be for the zerker war button smashers

Yes, as long as it’s a permanent content. Otherwise, no.

Well that should be given. This game needs all the permanent content it can get at this point.

When i mean “harder content” i dont mean adding more health to a boss (Im looking at you high level fractals). I mean something that takes an actual coordinated group effort with people rolling specific classes to work in unison and when you fail it is a complete wipe (ie, uw, fow from gw1).

Think of all the depth that would be added. Classes would work in synergy on a level never seen before in an mmo. It would be art

If you need specific classes, I assure you there will be a concerted effort to find the most efficient way to complete it. Some classes (like engi) will feel left out.

Have you ever heard of a guild called Death and taxes? They are an elite dungeon speed running guild. Extremely hard to get in to. They run a engi on thier dungeon tour

You would never know which class would be left out until people actually figure out the best ways and even then most “hardcore” players have more the 1 class along with the fact the buffs and nerfs will ultimately change the meta.

Is that good enough for you. Keep in mind in the open world there is no much other fail mechanism that they can use besides a wipe due to players need to be able to come back from defeated.

You get 20 every run. No matter how many times you have done it. Every 5 runs you can make a star which is about half a crafting level as well. So its not a bad way of cheap leveling.

Yes, seems it costs around 600g to get all 3 crafts from 400 to 500.

As for the actual weapon crafting costs, this is going to depend on what you want to craft. Seems bows will probably be the most expensive due to these requiring the largest varity of mats: ingots, planks, and leather.

If I recall correctly, read somewherea greatsword will cost around 120g, to craft, and that uses only ingots.

What I see as being the big cost ascended items will be the armour.. Amour has always been more expensive to craft than weapons. Plus the mats come only from salvaging and loot bags, there are no cotton or wool nodes in-game …

Where are you getting 600g? o.O It costs about 50g to get from 400-500.

For everyone asking about prices for an ascended it costs about 25g in mats + however many exotics you need to salvage for dark matter.

Also, this will on go down with time as everything evens out.

Edit: You can also make as many ascended weps as you want right away. As long as you have the cash of course about 150g at current prices to buy all the mats. (This does not include getting to 500 in a discipline)

Unfortunately I have to make 2 ascended weapons for my Thief, because I run a dagger/dagger build.

As for your question, I highly doubt that ascended armor will be as difficult to craft as ascended weapons, but it’s possible it could be just as difficult.

You only use d/d? what about sb and/or a sword for trash mobs or pistols for blinding?

Get ascended rings from FotM. Instead of wasting 40 days for a ring, do it within 10d in FotM lvl10.

Get ascended earrings from guild commendations. Even “lower” guilds should have the missions by now.

Getting 1.3 Laurels per day is enough for me. I got 7 chars on 80 and almost all with ascended trinkets.

At least do fotm 20 for a chance at a fractal wep lol (even though ive been doing fotm 48 daily for a couple of months and havent gotten a single fractal wep i could use on my thief)

I run 6 weapons (8 including underwater, but i doubt i will ever make ascended ones considering i only go underwater for 1 fractal) on my thief alone.

My best guess for ascended armor is we will be crafting it like we are now for weps BUT instead of just 1 piece we will craft a box of armor. Which we will then open to get our full set.

Huh? First off if you spent 100g to get to 470 you are doing it wrong. It costed me 52g to get to 500 sooooo

How is this making us farming robots? After you get to 500 its only 10g for the BEST weapon in the game. That is dirt cheap. You can run cof p1 once a day for 10 days straight and get that. If you cant even spare 15min a day to get an ascended wep then you dont deserve it in the first place.

Getting from 400-500 is where it will cost you (About 50g for me today even with the 200 orich and ancient wood that i had gathered). Otherwise it costs roughly 25-30g to make a weapon at current prices.

If you have a ton of cash you can buy all the mats needed right now. Costing you roughly 150g for a weapon. So unless you make 120g per 9 days it is best just to do the daily way.

First, if you think ascended gear is a treadmill you have no idea what you are talking about.

Second, It will only matters in WvW. All the pve content in this game is so easy (except for high level fractals where AR is required) you can easily complete it with masterwork gear.

Third, its a business, of course they are greedy.

I believe it is a 3% difference. So on a full set of armor it will 18% difference. The thing is, it will only matter in WvW because the pve content is so easy in this game. You can easily do everything (besides high level fractals) in masterwork gear.

The mithrilium takes ectos. Perhaps that’s what they meant.

It only takes 1 ecto though, so I don’t know where they got the 10 ecto number from.

But what is the point in keeping all those boxes? Even if you have 1000+ of those mats, you can still convert them only once a day.

Wrong, those mats can be converted as much as you want per day. The only thing that is time gate is the mithrilium and its wooden counter part.

I heard there was a new fractal coming, something about a reactor explosion? You might need to buff up your AR to get to it…

Mini is a little over the top but i have no problem requiring ascended. You cant have people being under geared for the hardest content. You will only bring down your team.

If you dont have the ascended gear then make your own team. Chances are you wont beat the content or if you do, it will take forever.

If you dont do WvW ascended weapons will make no difference. The PvE content in this game is so easy. You can easily beat everything in masterwork gear as the game stands.

You are somewhat wrong. To make 1 deldrimor ingot you will need 10 ectos, 20 iron and 1 mithrilium (which is your time gated mat).

To make a deldrimor plated dowel it will require 50 ectos. Which is required for every ascended inscription.

Hard content should be instanced. There should be “normal” and “hard” settings. There should be cosmetic rewards. Hard mode should award a higher chance, and — assuming it would take a skilled party 1.5 times what it would take the same party to complete the normal mode, hard should award 2x the cash.

Karka Queen was a fail because it required too much coordination and cooperation than should be expected of open world content. Time limit on top of it was another nail in the coffin.

There can be no such thing as “Challenging open world content”. You cannot coordinate 80 random people who 40% are absolutely clueless and only know how to spam their auto attack (Because 90% of the content doesnt teach them anything else).

They really need to take a step back, realize this and start making things instanced. Even if its a 30 man instanced event.

Sincerely hope that type of event/boss mentality stretches to all the existing dragons/bosses/dungeons and future content as well.

No one likes mindlessly zerging dragons and slapping their feet with 60 other players for 30 seconds lol.

The point with ascended is simply a point on an ever ascending power curve. There is no point in ascended beyond that. What they introduced was not so much ascended gear as vertical progression, a non-optional gear grind that in theory produces incentive to play the game more. That’s it. It’s just about a gear grind, plain and simple.

Ascended does have its place in fractals. You wouldnt be able to do anything above fotm 10 without it.

That being said, i just wish they would take the time to actually update their only some what challenging pve content :p

In theory, Fractals can extend forever, it’s a matter of how deep you can go. Practically, your level of agony resist caps progress to a certain point.

More items that can be imbued with AR means the deeper you can go, even without new maps added.

I know this. I have been doing a daily 48 for weeks now. Im just asking, why even add ascended in the first place if you are never going to update and keep the content fresh for what it was even designed for.

The rewards for Fotm are so poor. Only reason i do them now is im still trying to get my kitten fractal sword LOL

Probably because anet wouldnt let him. He couldnt find ways to tie gem store items into his dungeons, so they canned him. LOL

It’s pretty easy to tie gem store to dungeons. It will make you elitists so proud to show off the stuffs only you can have. Or things that make those w/ zillion achievement points proud. And useful if you continue up the ladder. But I won’t tell because it’s unfair that Jon Smith makes more than I do.

People don’t have to buy all this stuff…

Especially the Temple & World boss “Dragonite” drop. There are several servers that run those events in big well experienced groups every night. Right now on NSP we are in need of all the extra players we can possibly get and don’t mind people Guesting to get in on it so long as they actually listen and follow what commanders advise in Map Chat…

I don’t know the exact times of other servers, but we could probably get a thread going somewhere to help people find those out. (on NSP, it begins in cursed shores @ 5pm pacific)

It’s something similar to zerging except players in that zerg can’t suck. Basically they’re trying to make large scale content challenging. Yes, Tequatl is a damage sponge but he also has abilities that will kill you if you don’t know what you’re doing.

Yeah its strong and can kill you but this is not the type of challenge players want! We want large scale INSTANCED content that you can do with your guild/group of players and when you fail you stop and think “ok what went wrong and what can we do to get better?”. This open world stuff? You cant coordinate with all the trolls/bad players/afkers for loot…

Isn’t that what the guild challenges are for?

Maybe, if they were INSTANCED AND ACTUALLY CHALLENGING. Which they are not sooooooooo

They did say you can get special Ascended Weapons out of this as well as a Tequatl mini. So it’s not just rares possible. Plus it requires coordination beyond mindlessly hacking at a dragon’s toe.

Did they say if they were tradable weapons? If not its just worthless junk until rng favors you and gives you a weapon you need.

Just because you add more health doesnt make it harder! There is nothing strategic about zerging. Its just a spam fest.

How to Craft an Ascended Weapon

in Crafting

Here is what you will need (This is through PvE only)

Blood stone dust – Champ loot bags
Dragonite Dust – temple and mega bosses (ie. dragons)
Emperyiel fragments – dungeons
Dark Matter- Salvaging Exotics

- 500 crafting (you only need 450 to start doing the time gated crafting)
- 21k Karma – For inscription Recipe
- 5 laurels + 5g – For Weapon Recipe


To refine your materials gathered from the world you will need

- 100 of the specific dust (ie. bloodstone)
- 2 obby shards
- Reagent

For your daily (Here is were you are time gated)

- 50 elder planks – 50 mithril bars
- 1 glob – 1 glob
- Reagent – Reagent

You can make 1 of each per day.


Now what you will need to make the parts of the weapon

- Inscription
- Blade + handle or shield backing + boss
- Crystal

For the inscription

- Desired inscription but the orichalcum version
- 10 crystalline dust
- 10 Dark matter (received when salvaging exotics)
- 1 Deldrimor Dowel (This is where you are time gated, The deldrimor ingots)

For the Blade/handle/shield/boss

- Deldrimor Ingots
- Crystaline Dust
- Reagent

For the Crystal

- Augar stone – 20 skill points
- 5 Dragonite Bricks (see above)
- 5 emperyiel stars (see above)
- 5 bloodstone bricks (see above)

As you can see it really isnt that hard or expensive. Where it will cost you is getting to 500 crafting.

My personal recommendation for you is to WAIT. Give it a week or two. Prices will even out and people will figure out the most efficient/cost effective way to 500 crafting for you.

In the end you will be 1 weapon behind for a bit, but is it really worth all that gold?

I get a pink from a fotm run almost every time. That being said i have gotten 2 exotic drops in my 750 hours of playtime.

New to thief - gearing up

Also make sure you are doing your dailies (for ascended amulet) and joining a guild so you can get commendations. Should take 4-5 weeks of weekly missions to get 2 ascended
trinkets.
