Never see elixer U played in pvp, nor AED (forget about using gadgets). If all you are looking for is a good engineer build, check metabattle.com. Of you specifically want a build around flamethrower, ill have to look into it a bit more. Do you own HoT? (scrapper has a nice interaction with flamethrower)

As annoying as frost aura is, shock aura is broken.

Protip: shocking aura is anti-melee. Here are some tips for beating tempest:

Is he overloading?
- Interrupt it
- Go ham on the dps. If he dodges he just wasted 5-6s setting up his ability for no gain. If he doesn’t, he should be dead. I can pretty much guarantee that your dps is higher than his overload’s dps.

Does he already have shocking aura:
- Use range, he has absolutely no defense to the pew-pew.

I can understand that auras might be annoying, but they are the focal point of tempest’s defense. If they were useless then tempest would literally have NOTHING going for it.

Too bad there is a trait for stability on overload and it resets whenever he crits anyways. He has protection during it too and possibly Magnetic or Frost Aura so good luck DPSing any good. Range without projectiles maybe but they are spamming Magnetic too.

If he is traited for stab on overload, you have 4 seconds for you team to come up with 2 cc’s (b/c cele tempest is a teamfight build and useless outside of teamfights), or just focus fire him and force a dodge. If he isn’t traited for stab, he should never complete an overload (seriously, it is a FOUR SECOND CAST).

If he is traited for 1 stack of stab, then his auras aren’t cleansing condis so load him up with condis – he can do very little about that.

If he has the magnetic aura shout, then he has NO stunbreak utility (because he has a fire shout, earth shout, and either frost shout or lightning flash) every time he swaps attunements for 5s. Stunlock him. Also, that shout is on a 50s CD, and if he uses his earth overload that gets put on a 25s CD before he can overload again…so he can’t exactly spam magnetic auras.

If he is sharing auras, he has absolutely 0 condi cleanse. If he isn’t sharing auras (the ones from overloads and weapon skills), then he isn’t really doing much at all except buzzing around being annoying.

Sure, tempest isn’t a free kill, but if you are slightly observant then it is laughably easy to shut down.

How does regen+vigor=condition cleanse? Magnetic Wave, Magnetic Aura, only difference is no heal/boons with traits and duration, should have just said AoE reflect and they have that on air too. Warhorn may be kitten but it still has over 50% uptime on Magnetic Aura with the trait. So he can go selfish or support Tempest, his choice. Also the cooldown resets with Fresh Air you just need to wait the 5 seconds to charge it again.

Regen cleanses with water GM (only stab is baseline). Overload have a 20 sec cd that does not get reset with fresh air. Warhorn aura uptime is irrelevant, no one runs it.

1. Many of us have been looking for engaging open world content for quite some time. We finally got it, so don’t ask for it to be taken away please…

2. So they did, I managed to max three of my characters without much of a hassle. Tome-of knowledge levelled chars will need either groupwork or masteries, which is ok with me, for masteries are account bound.

3. Cant discuss this one, no ranger.

4. It’s a system that allows character progression without the feeling that people that put more time in it are actually stronger. It doesnt force people to grind, for most masteries are not nessecary at all. It allows people to grind, which was the exact intention of the system.

4 again. This one I am not sure of. The rewards don’t feel veey rewarding, but then, the meta events still fail usually this early in the game. It might be you’re right, might be it needs some time.

5. This would be nice, something like a seperate daily.

6. They said they are going to release balance patches more frequent. However, I am skeptical… All we can do is hope for the best, right?

7. The timed bosses don’t force zerker meta at all. The lack of usefullness of other stats does. Timed bosses are there to prevent a nomad meta, which would be even more unhealthy for the game than zerker. I did hear that the ones who succeeded in the raid still used mainly zerker. The changes in HoT were a step in the right direction, there need to be still more. It’s curious that you want the game to become easier, AND zerker meta to dissapear, for it will have the exact opposite effect.

8. There is a perfectly explainable reason for the lack of testing regarding the HP requirements for elite specs. To test the elite specs, which was most important imo, the specs had no requirements in the tests. When the game launched, an the (justified) complaining began, Anet listened and realized their mistake.

In pvp, I am using a triple-gyro setup (healing, bulwark, stun gyro). They get destroyed easily, but thats wat they are traited to give superspeed when killed, which heals me. It might not be the best build, but I am able to tank with marauder.

The Idea is that more elite specs with new weapons will be added over time. If they allowed you to mix and match the benefits of these specs too much there would be so many possible builds the game will be inpossible to balance.

Reducing the hero points required for the spec would leave everybody with loads of useless hero points in the end. But then, if a new elite spec is released before a sizable map expansion is, they will be absolutely nessecary. I think gated content is fine, as long as it is not required for this elite spec, but rather to prepare for the upcoming ones.

How would full valkary go, combined with crit chance on vurnerability and +50% in death shroud (which makes 100% on pve bosses). 100% crot chance without any stat investment sounds amazing.

True, with boon duration stats stacking some tempests would allow you to have a perma-duration on all boons. But most boons can be pemanently obtained already, especially ele specific ones.

That all boons but the big 3 (the 2 i talked about removing from boon sharing over all and stab) at least now that vigor is on auras.

The movement speed is capped with swiftness when out of combat, so this really only has its place in combat. Compare it to a fresh-air ele that has 100% swiftness uptime and 50% superspeed uptime in combat. I honestly don’t think it is broken at all.

So, the tempest has gotten a change I didn’t even notice on day one of HoT, namely the movement from earthen proxy towards the grandmaster minor trait; Hardy Conduit. This makes Hardy Conduit a lot better and more interesting. This leaves Speedy Conduit, it’s just bad. Most tempest builds will have plenty off access to swiftness already. Now if we compare the traits; they both give a duration-stacking boon with a 33% effectiveness while overloading.

So, for the new Speedy Conduit:

Speedy Conduit: Gain swiftness while overloading an attunement. Swiftness has increased effectiveness (20%).

This primarily has its use in sPvP, where it allows the tempest to chase down or escape from other characters with swiftness. However, it will still remain inferior to superspeed, like it should.

I don’t know if this was a problem before the expansion, and it’s not anything big but…

While roaming around the map with Tempest, I find myself spamming every aura I have for swiftness. Air overload is one of them. The thing is, it felt a bit akward when the combat music suddenly popped up when I was happily spinning around, killing some critters in the process :’) Is this supposed to happen?

If you are running full cele healing runes, your damage isnt great. Do you stack might sufficiently? Without might, the spec would do not neay enough damage to beat any sustain build.

The term ‘grinding’ is used if you are obtaining currency with the main, and mistly the only goal, to obtain currency. I don’t want to spend my time in gw2 grinding. This does not mean that I want to unluck everything instantly; more like I want to have fun doing so. I explore the world, rather than farming a gift of exploration. I might go on a quest to make a special, powerful weapon, rather that getting gold for my precursor (HOT).

Invurnerability frames might be annoying, but I think they arent bad for the game. If engineers, or Warriors or eles for that matter, would not have acces to those, they would all be forced into bunker builds (like cele ele). If not, thieves, or mesmers would kill them from invis 99% of the time. Invurnerability frames allow builds other then invis snipe or bunker to be a thing. I personally quite enjoy the decissionmaking behind popping them, and how they prevent me from spamming a single combo for the whole fight when playing against it.

I never play with signet of earth, just except you are nog going to land dragon tooth. Ever. Marauder fresh air ele van be ok, but the damage doesnt match those of other high burst classes. Agains t bunkers you will have a disadvantage, against invis and condi as well. Its a great and fun build, bug its not meta and the hardest to pilot out there, so don’t expect easy fights. Press the advantage against burst specs before they kill you, but be careful around sustain builds and know wich fights to pick.

If you really want to go burn, go fire/arcane/earth. Arcane power + glyph of elemental power + signet of earth. Trait burning precision, power overwhelming, serrated Stones, strength of stone, arcane precision and, most importantly, elemental surge. Initiate with signet of earth, switch to fire, pop both Powers and cast drake’s breath.

Ascended rings, asscesoires and amulets are basically free (login rewards), so the total change in armor stats isnt even 10%, more like 5. And that is in armor stats only, so the total amount of stat increase really feels insignificant to me. Grinding for an awesome reward is one thing, grinding for armor of wich you wont even notice its use is something entirely different.

Holding a magical weapon (like a scepter) doesnt nessicarily mean that the magic comes directly from the scepter, its the same with staff skills I believe. Lightning strike and blinding flaah are similar because soms people (like me) like spamming as many Lightning bolts as humanly possible on our target (fresh air, sigil of air). I think water 3 is way better than the other water skills.

I think engineer and ele show the most similarity, or matbe revenant (havent played). They are both jack-of-all-trades classes. My secondary profession is engineer and its lots of fun!

I am having a lot of fun lately running S/F fresh air ele in spvp. There are a couple of weapon skills I (almost) never use. I was wondering if these skills have their uses in spvp or if they are just a complete waste of casting time.

The skill does Mad damage, but I have no illusion of actually hitting it. Currently, i only use it on downed foes.

Both! Especially earth shield would benifit from instant cast, and would work well both for yourself and for team support. I feel like changing conjures in both aspects will not make them OP in the slightest

Sooo, Heart of Thorns hasn’t even been released yet and I am already fantasizing about possible cool future elite specs. Thought it might be fun to share some ideas, even though new elite specs isn’t what Anet is looking for atm of course. So here are my ideas!

Lingering elementalist:

Remember the trait Lingering Elements? (Attunement bonuses linger after leaving that attunement). This elite spec will cause attunements to linger whenever you swap out of them for say 3 sec. As long as an element is lingering, you will not be able to swap to the attunement, but it will not be on cooldown either. After the linger duration expires, or when you press the skill button, it will stop lingering and go on cd. Each of your weapon skills will have additional effects to them for each lingering element, for example, Cone of Cold will apply some burning if Fire is lingering. This would allow the elementalis to combine elements to make their skills more potent and to make them feel like a true Avatar! The spec could have traits that increased the duration of lingering, making the ele able to cast 4-element spells. Another trait could create a spell whenever an element stops lingering similar to the minor masters of each element, making you able to spam out twice as much lightning bolts with a Fresh Ari build!

Rider:

Woodenpotatoes talked about this one in a Ranger speculation video, and it made me think, what if? Riders would have acces to mounts! How would it work? They gain an F skill that would cause their pet to rush towards them, then the ranger will climb on its back. Some of the weapon skills will stay the same, mainly ranged ones, but positioning-oriented skills will change and involve the mount. Only specific pets will be rideable of course. Depending on the pet you are riding, they provide bonusses (extra movement speed, toughness on a bear? etc) and a special mounted skill. The Rider willbe able to use the underwater-weapon spear as a regular weapon.

Master of Deception:

Right now, mesmer clones are not very deceiving in pvp, they are used as a way to deal damage. This elite spec will copy any animation you are making to all existing clones (not phantasms). This means dodge rolls, weapon skills and utility skills. The Master of deception could then gain traits that made clones able to evade, or go into stealth whenever the Mesmer does. This would be moslty a pvp spec, but as we have seen on Scrapper, it could work.

Cultural Elite Specs:

Remove all elite utility skills, instead rework them into an elite spec. The spec will focus on your race rather than your profession. To unlock these specs, you will have to aquire cultural armor for the race you are playing. T1 for the first past, T2 for the second and T3 for the third. Thes will be harder to obtain. Like other elite specs will gain acces to a two-handed weapon, only when equipped in the first weapon slot (which means that a greatsword/greatsword warrior would have two different weapon skill bars), a trait line and a full set of utility skills. Example: Golemancer: Asura will have acces to staff skills that have skills that daze or put down radiation fields etc (see the current utilities). For utilities they will gain access to golems. Right now the elite golems already exist, but the spec will also gain acces to a smaller healer golem and utility golems. They can be improved in the trait line. These specs will only be usable in pve.

Since the icebow 50% damage nerf, i feel like conjurer weapons could use a buff. Of course, i don’t mean flat damage buffs, but why not something fun instead?
I am mainly talking about these two traits:

Conjurer: Gain fire aura when an ally picks up a conjured weapon; Conjured weapons have more charges.

One with Fire: Fire auras you apply last longer and grant might when applied.

These two traits are obviously supposed to be combined. Now add Powerful Aura and you will have a weird Conjurer Ele build that supplies auras to the team by cycling through conjured weapons. This would work well with the new Tempest, enabling you to overload attunements while holding a conjured weapon.

The problem is: this build is bad, just flat out awful. It might be meant to be a fun interaction, but i feel like it could be buffed somewhat.

Suggestion: change Conjurer and make it apply an aura to you that matches the weapon (fire, earth, frost or lightning). Make One with Fire apply to each of those auras as well. Sure, the fire theme of the traits will have gone somewhat, but this will create some fun build diversity in my opinion!

Daredevils are going to be really annoying to play against: Between d/d 3, lotus training, withdraw, hard to catch, roll for initiative, signet of agility, runes of the adventurer, and sigil of energy (and stamina in pve). There will hardly be a time where this profession will not be evading.

I feel like ele could best be nerfed by looking at the traitlines. I’d suggest to put an internal cooldown (3 s mb?) on “cleansing water”, and maybe remove “Burning fire”, or move it up in the trait line. Then remove the blast finisher from earth “evasive arcana”, and maybe the condi removal from the water one. These changes will only affect the current builds, and I think it wont nerf ele to the ground. I sure hope they wont be nerfed too badly, its the only viable build atm

If I must be honest, I was kinda dissapointed by seeing the tempest revealed. After some thinking tho… I think the ele builds are too limited at the moment, whenever you start making a build, the first thing you do is traiting arcane. The tempest traitline goes against everything the arcane line offers, longer cds on attunement swap, thus giving less boons by the minor traits etc. I already managed to make some fun builds with the spec, like going conjure weapons and trait “conjurer” along with “elemental bastion” and “powerful aura”, you can overload while holding conjured weapons. Or go fresh air to negate the cooldown increase. All of these are traits that were never really used. The only problem I have right now with the spec is that its hard to build anything that isnt an auramancer.
