“you have hit a hard wave, you will be pushed back if you do not retreat” = wall.
There is no Unlock for Orr, you can think of the above area like a mountain / something that you are unable to cross, and you should find a bridge / road =>
You need to find a proper Gate, the round thingy, to pass to another map. Just ask in map chat where is the exit to Orr, other players will help you get there.
oh my, is that picture for real?
change server man! (if you want wvw).
Hello,
I would like more details on how the sigils work:
- If I use 2x 1 hand weapons, one with air sigil, one with slow on crit(forgot name)
- my crit chance is around 40% (tops), so let`s say air procs.
- after how much time could the next sigil proc and which one would it be? The internal cooldown is shared for both, as in if one procs, the second one will be locked for the cooldown duration?
Thank you.
Yes, still I said that I will not use 20+ points in explosions.
With that in mind, I can reach:
10% → Explosion trait line
20% → 2x giver pistols
10% → 2x Lyssa runes
10% → 2x Sup Mad King
40% → Food
--————————> +90%
and I`ll be missing 10%.
At this point my concerns are, in the following order:
- with WvW in mind, is it worth finding another 10% from somewhere?
- if Yes, where from? Will 2x Superior and and 2x Major runes of the same type work together? (that would be 7%, so still I`ll miss 3%)
what combo finishers do you guys use after the patch (with the shield)?
1). Can you reach +100% duration without 20 points in Explosives? If so how?
2). Except the bleed dmg, if one has +90% duration, how would the Cripple, Burning and confusion be affected?
1). Lack of LFG tool.
2). Embarrassing dungeon “mechanics”.
I would put Square Enix in the place of NCsoft .
I would like to buy skins (and also ascended items with better stats) with karma.
Also black lion chest keys and so on.
I also doubt we`ll ever live to see that happen.
@Terrahero.9358
is the condition duration noticeble? (Blind / Confusion / Burn)
Because player prefer toughness much more over vitality without understanding the maths behind. In most fights, vitality is more effective then toughness – only long fights (30sec +) profits more from toughness.
Help us understand the math behind then. I`m Interested from a WvW point of view where a fight Rarely lasts over 30s.
is there a way to reset the points spent in wvw abilities?
the Necro has a lot of utility and is moderately fun to play, their value to the zerg is limited greatly by the number of guardians and mesmers on the opposing side
Correct. The better a zerg / guild group is organized, the less damage/debuff/whatever you will be able to do with a necro.
If I were to start a new toon now, with the sole purpose of playing in my current guild (100% WvW) I`d go guardian / mesmar / ele in that order.
What proffesion isn’t seen in zergs the most but extremely useful to have?
No such thing.
duo with mobility to flip camps, battle larger numbers, and have some ability to escape.
That would be 2x Chuck Norris.
Thief has a trait that purges the cripple when they dodge.
Is that a normal trait choice for WvW thieves?
Thx.
Most thieves run glassy builds, and they are easy to melt using the options described by the people in the posts above.
Still once in a while you encounter a non-glassy Patient and skilled thief, that you will not kill. When you do, don`t get suckered into a prolonged fight if you do not have backup coming, chances are he has (backup coming).
=> If it feels “shallow” sorry, maybe ranger is not the 1 button win proff you were hoping.
IMO ranger is a pretty complicated profession, when played at it`s full potential. All professions will benefit in the hands of a skilled player and a novice will die regardless of the strength of that profession. But no profession should require the player to be an expert to be viable.
for me:
viable = win 1v1 50% of times.
more than viable = win 1v3 vs decent players.
Ranger is not viable?
For solo roaming, Eng is arguably almost as good as Mesmar. Maybe more fun for people who enjoy the eng toys, bombs, etc, but mostly just ‘more fun’, not more efficient at killing / escaping.
For the eng vs mesmar contribution / efficiency within a zerg, for me there is no doubt: mesmar wins easy.
Some will tell you to go FT or bombs, or grenades. I disagree. If you are member of a good wvw focused guild / group, you will need certain things: on demand water fields, on demand blast finishers, mass cloaking, etc etc.
Bottom line: if you enjoy eng more than mesmar, play eng (with the spec that feels the more confortable). If you enjoy being efficient and helping your group(some weeks you get easier matches, some weeks you get harder ones), leave eng behind.
That`s my opinion, as a wvw eng with 1200+ hours on it.
I find it amusing people think Thieves are the worst open world PVE class.
hehe well, as George Carlin said:
“One can never know for sure what a deserted area looks like.”
and also
“Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.”
Replace “stupid” with something less insulting, that fits our context, if you will.
i approve, played with my ranger for a few hours last night and it just felt shallow and weak.
As a non-ranger player that spends 90% on time in WvW:
I got pummeled by a ranger using Long bow in WvW. He had Huge range(seamed greater than 1200) and he was constantly hitting for 1200+ each hit. I guess power/crit something. Anyway it was impressive.
Another day me and 3 allies ran across a ranger; easy kill, I thought; well not really; as it turns out he got 2 of us down, we managed to ress and kill him eventually, but it was difficult: he had Alot of condition damage, some annoying traps & evades and Alot of regen. He was using Axe / torch and sword / dagger. Again very impressive.
Usually say 75%+ of rangers are unable to kill me, but around 20% are aware of their profession and are able to kill me / escape without leaving me any chance to catch up.
=> If it feels “shallow” sorry, maybe ranger is not the 1 button win proff you were hoping.
IMO ranger is a pretty complicated profession, when played at it`s full potential.
I`m not happy with PvT, even in zergs, the damage output is mediocre at best. So I survive, but hitting for 200-300 (pistol) is meh.
Bombs are a no, since a good zerg will not stay put. FT is a joke vs good players also, and the limited range makes it unusable on the current borderlands.
What`s left.. rifle, decent single target, bad at tagging people.. EG too low damage, more of a control / heal option.
Need to do more tests .
any bow ranger that doesn’t use traps or nature spirits isn’t a true ranger either, so shame on them, am I right?
Walker was(is) a Ranger, and he uses a wide range of… weaponz.
IMO there is no use bashing AN for the state of the Ranger.
If Walker is ok with it, so should you.
Unload is still not a good damage skill in the grand scheme of things.
How should one test the damage output of a build / spec then? I was thinking of this way:
If we go to the mists / LA (if we have a full geared lv 80 toon) and we start hitting the golems/dummy (I don`t remember if the dummy shows the damage in the combat log):
- look at the clock, start the rotation, pew pew pew, after say 2 minutes stop and add up the dmg
- change speg / gear / whatever
- look at the clock and start again
Would this be able to give one a correct evaluation of the P/P or GS/Scepter/whatever damage output in the grand scheme of things, as you said?
Thank you.
A few questions from me too:
1). Leveling by crafting:
– should this be done at higher levels? If yes, around what level?
– how much exp would a crafting prof give? (say 1→300, since I`m a casual non rich player)
– which and in what order should one start with the crafting profs?
2). The food (+10% experience) and the Oils are available from level 5.
– do they stack?
– what other exp boosts can one get? (banners / something else?)
– with the fastest exp gain/money spent as target, does it matter what kind of buff consumables (food/oil/potions) one uses? Are they all the same? Should one always get the cheapest ones (3 coppers/piece) or there is a more efficient way?
3). Story quests; I have leveled up long ago a few toons, and some of the story quests were not easy nor short.
– should one do them every 10 levels? Every 20 -30 levels?
– should one do them when they come (normal sequential way) ?
4). Vistas and map completion at lower and higher level.
– long ago (if I am not mistaking) map completion some time awarded the rare lv 80 transmutation stones (or was it the personal story quest?..); are the rewards for a lv 20 toon that completes a map worth the time? what about for a level 60?
5). If you read all this, you may have an idea about what kind of player I am, and every tip/criticism you are willing to share will be appreciated.
Thank you for your time.
For PvE (dungeons) where would you say a good balance between crit / crit dmg / vit / toughness and power could be found? For a mediocre skill player (such as myself) who is still not able to dodge enough?
Thank you.
I gotta agree with OP on the playstyle aspect of thief. It really is a watered down warrior with stealth sprinkled here and there, which isn’t even used for stealth its used for backstabbing.
Well sure one can say that about axe/dagger necro also; and sword/gs ranger. So what?
A lot of people have tunnel vision, and a lot of readers can easily agree with such opinions. IMO that does not make them right. There is no absolute truth here, it`s a subjective view of a profession.
Have fun playing your new chosen profession OP.
so what must one do in order to get 30+ FPS in WvW in the 100v100 battles?
I agree and I think all thieves should reroll norn guardian with big swords.
It removes it if you are away from it`s source, as far as I know.
-Dungeons weren’t fun
-Insane grind if you wanted anything
-PvP was always a side interest for me so there was no big draw there, and it seemed like everyone was just doing WvWIs the leveling game still fun or is it lacking as more people reside at the cap?
For me:
– dungeons are still not fun; same tired mechanics and lame scaling of the mobs to make them “difficult”.
- if you are talking legendary weapons, same as before, if you are talking fractals, I guess the same. I never did fractals, nor will I ever craft a legendary / farm for one.
- pretty much the same builds / teams in PvP, and in WvW more Thieves than 5 months ago.
- leveling is no fun, I have tried 3-4 times to create a new prof, never got past lv 15.
Since it`s free, log in and try it for yourself, see if you enjoy the “new” GW2.
Just looked over the patchnotes again…
godkitten these are really really bad..
wait wait.
The patch notes are not out yet, there is still hope.
what drugs are you on?
Drugs? Got 2k hours on Engi, where 1700 are on WvW. Playing on organized hardcore wvw guild, to make useful engi for group you need to be on granade (where reta is hiting like a truck) or bombs, and you need 2200+ toughness just to enter, use bombs get out, and waiting for heal and CD, and you are pretty usless, cuz having low power, on pistol is kinda low dmg like 500-600. A little better on GvG where is less numbers etc, but still there are better classes, like necro, who will hit with blind from wells, and GG and giving also chill on every blind.
i know they are unoficial. and i hope they will never put those changes.
then take off your clyde’s dale blinders. you have very very narrow vision. is this your first visit to the forums? are you unaware of the myriad builds using kits in WvW? How do these notes eliminate kits even if they were real?
also, what GvG? there is no GvG in this game. None. Guilds organizing fights with other guilds within WvW is not GvG.
I disagree:
– in competitive WvW, in the first tiers, there is not “myriad builds using kits” that can help/deal real damage to a group/zerg. Sure you could try all the “fun” things, but against a good group/zerg your damage / cc / whatever output will often be close to zero.
– there is GvG, if you did not experienced it, well that`s another thing that is out of your field of vision; be sure that there are more such things.
– Lotus is right: vs a good zerg / group one needs a lot of toughness to survive the AoE. Toughness is useless even in 5v5 or smaller groups, once you are FOCUSED by 2-3 Good players.
You should understand, the way you see the world around you may not be 100% accurate, and I just realized I am wasting my time posting this.
Have fun.
I saw the movie, nice job.
what keeps you clockin in to this game and playing it?
For the past weeks just doing the daily crap quest for the laureal because I`m still hoping the next patch will bring good fixes/balances.
I play Eng and necro as alt. The ONLY part of the forum that feels good reading it, for me, where most of the people seam to have stable thinking pathways is the Thief sub-forum.
It would be a good change, if it were true.
SB should be(as I see it) an utility wep, movement, cc, not the weapon of choice for the lazy people who sit back and auto-attack “pew pew wow ranger so easy pew pew”.
Body Shot: Aftercast reduced by .4s. Decreased Vuln duratrion to 3s. Increaased to 10 stacks fo Vuln.
what……
What a biased “study”, obviously pushing an agenda. Ridiculous.
All it boils down to is basically this: “I want stuff from the Gem Store, but I’m too cheap/poor/uptight to buy it. Therefore I’ll whine about it and try to morally justify my pathetic whining so I don’t sound like a moron and might even get some sycophantic appreciation from my equally worthless peers.”
I`m glad you and many others feel this way.
GW2 + Rift + Ps4 + The Elder Scrolls Online + whatever != WoW killer.
IMO.
I disagree.
Utility slow is better since one can swap it for running to a fight and then swap to whatever else. If you run 5 minutes with 1 click at the start to switch to the utility then 1 click at the end to swap it out = much better than to click twice every 5 seconds for a kitten buff. That`s 30 Times less clicking.
plus:
the Utility slot is Available for all specs / builds.
vs
10 points spent just to run faster ?
again I would chose Utility slot any day.
(edited by rogerwilko.6895)
for me, 1-2 stacks of Might for 10s do not justify:
– the TOO SLOW cast of Life Blast (twice at least, usually, if you want might)
– the skill cooldown created when exiting DS.
Clunky and shallow mechanic, lazy / unimaginative thinking by AN.
any info on when this patch will land?
I don’t think having to “dump” 10 trait points and one major trait slot for 100% swiftness uptime is somehow a bad deal for engineers. Most other characters have to devote runes, food buffs and more than 10 trait points to even get close to it.
Rangers and thieves have to dump a utility slot for their movement speed signets, and those are only 25%, not the 33% Speedy Kits gives engineers.
and somehow both rangers and thieves are a bit more mobile than the engineer… how is this possible I wonder?
There’s also WxP added, a type of experience which allows you to gain certain passive abilities.
and they are GRRRRREAT!!
No, not really. IMO they are crap, and it`s just another pathetic attempt by AN.
@OP: just log back, guest, see what`s up and then decide.
IMO Armor & HP do not Help against a good Thief. (I run with 2.9k tough and 30k hp, and not a warrior)
Luck + Skill do. If you are lucky/skilled and block/counter the first burst, then you will be able to die 1-2 minutes later when he comes back fully healed with the lessons learned and the CDs ready.
3s bleeds are just meh…
Can someone link a WvW terror build & gear setup?\
Thank you.
When I run Hyb (PvE Only): scepter/dagged and axe/focus.
Scepter Bleeds + Blood is pwoer + Epidemic-> Axe #2 -> DS #1 + DS#1 (might stacks) -> Axe #2 -> Scepter.
Power + Prec + Cnd dmg + crit dmg gear(jewels/weps).
(edited by rogerwilko.6895)
As you may have read, there are some that like the shield, for the blast finishers, 90 toughness and the “ranged stun”. I do mainly WvW and for me p/p is much better than P/S: The blast finishers will come handy from time to time, for healing / whatever, the ranged stun helped me I think Once? The reflect is too short and on a long cooldown.
Still going defensive it`s not something I do. As most of the engineer toys it brings some situational benefits, but IMO as most of our toys it`s far too situational and the sacrifices one has to make in order to use them at full capacity are too high.
As Soon well said, tool kit > shield.
