I would say… just don’t go around farming when you guys look like that.
Not that surprising. Many people are actually having fun here. I wish more of them posted on the forums, but I think most people’s personally allotted GW2-time is spent actually playing the game, or otherwise not bothering with forum drama.
My Sylvari use Female faces #1, 2, 4, and 7.
I’m just curious to see which Sylvari faces the players have gravitated to. I’ll attach the wiki images of the Sylvari faces below. Consider the top row as #1-#5 left to right, the second row as #6-#10 left to right (#6-#9 for males). Reply stating which # face(s) you use for your Sylvari. Make sure you mention the gender. Thanks!
Female #1: (10) IIIIIIIIII
Female #2: (14) IIIIIIIIIIIIII

I don’t know about that suggestion. Though posting the name would be useful to us, OP could get infracted or his thread deleted for “badmouthing” a guild or another player.
Chronologically, I don’t think it would work to have the Tengu help kill Zhaitan. There is no Tengu in Destiny’s Edge, and all throughout the Zhaitan storyline (which right now is the “present”) the Dominion of Winds has been cut off.
I think they’ll split up the playerbase regardless of what they choose. Maybe the extent of splitting is what they’re trying to mediate. And the tedious work of added tutorials is a good reason not to use campaigns. Like you said, as long as we get the advantages of a GW1-type campaign when Anet releases GW2 expansions, I’ll be happy. While I’m enjoying the Living Story and the patch content, I don’t think I’ll be satisfied with GW2’s development if it doesn’t eventually add new races, maps, weapons/armor, skills & traits, etc. It’s likely other people feel this way as well.
I think the slower running triggers anytime you’re in combat.
NO dredge!!
I like the Charr personality and presence at the same time that I lament the fact that they’re a cat race that can’t exactly be called pretty. While I know some players find the Charr to be beautiful, I think that opinion is subjective. In terms of popular opinion, I think they might be considered the least attractive playable race in the game (esp. the females). And Charr are about a hundred times more attractive than the dredge!
Devs don’t need to waste their effort on races that are irredeemably ugly, IMO. Just not worth it for the miniscule fraction of players who would actually roll an ugly race just for the novelty of it.
As long as we don’t have to go around killing kittens, I won’t cry.
I’m Asian too, and I don’t understand.
I doubt any Asian player who was offended by Cantha would have the guts to come out to the community and say what was so offending about it. They’d get fed to an ED.
Which face are you using? She looks a lot like Caithe.
This may be the reference you were seeking:
GZ: Will the standalone expansion model return? We really enjoyed how Factions and Nightfall took the series in new thematic directions…
ERIC: At this time we don’t plan to continue with the standalone expansion model. We felt that this model split our player base unnecessarily and also caused us to focus development effort on things that were redundant with the original release of the game such as tutorial areas and duplicates of already existing skills.

Well, there it is, thanks for the link! Hopefully the exclusion of the standalone expansion model won’t exclude the kind of good content that came with the campaigns.
Oh yes, I forgot to mention EotN was the only actual GW expansion. I knew that, but it slipped my mind bc I joined the Cult of Mac after my Dell died, and never played beyond Nightfall. But part of me doesn’t want to use EotN as an example bc they didn’t add new profs unlike Factions and Nightfall. I don’t want new profs for GW2, but I do want new races and maps. I know the connection doesn’t really apply since EotN was a precursor to GW2. I’m just saying that I hope the GW2 expansions would have more content than the only GW1 expansion did.
Yes, with a video you basically have to sit there and watch until someone says the quote! If you guys happen to find it, thanks in advance. If it’s too difficult to find, we will get our answer in time when the content comes out.
Can anyone weigh in on whether traditional/typical expansions from other MMO’s normally have less content than a GW1 campaign? Or whether the prices of expansions are generally the same as the original box price or if they’re priced lower?
It happens to pretty much everyone, even the smaller characters, depending on your zoom level. I’m at the closest zoom level 90% of the time, and I’ve found that this level is the best for doing jumping puzzles and vistas.
Devs already answered this before the game launched.
They said they will do expansions with GW2. They did not like how GW1 campaigns split the player base.
Really weird. There were absolutly NO people who only had 1 campaign. You bought the first and the game sucked you in and the day after you had the rest of the games. Why limit yourself to a small amount of skills (a HUGE disadvatage in PvP). People didn’t they. Almost everyone had just every campaign.
That is weird. Since even expansions are most likely going to be paid, not every player is going to get them… therefore splitting the playerbase anyway.
I’m not saying you’re making anything up Beorn, but could you find us a link to where a dev had said that? I just want to read it for myself.
If they won’t introduce Cantha, then the story will become goofy of the highest order. This will doom the game, you watch and see it crash and burn once Cantha is never introduced. Many old GW1 players have left me alone in GW2.
“Once Cantha is never introduced” won’t happen until the series is pretty much over. I can see Anet simply never making an official statement on Cantha and letting people hold out hope that Cantha simply hasn’t been introduced yet.
I know many people (myself included) refer to Factions and Nightfall as expansions, and yes of course they did expand on the GW universe. But since we weren’t required to purchase Prophecies to play Factions or Nightfall, technically they weren’t expansions; they were standalone campaigns. What do you guys predict ANet will do this go-around? Which would you prefer for GW2 – expansions or campaigns?
I personally would prefer that ANet continue with their campaigns, because a campaign basically has to be its own game. That being the case, the new content needs to be significant enough for players to purchase another box amount. That’s the best bet that we’ll get the sort of content that many of us are craving – new races, new continents, new armor and weapons, etc.
My experience with other MMO’s is limited, but I get the sense that if a company releases an expansion for a game (and it’s not standalone) then the amount or significance of the new content tends to be less. I may be wrong though.
Gotta love the bickering in that thread. The OP was being more than reasonable. “People will make them into dark elves” is a ridiculus argument against making Largos playable. What business is it of anybody’s how people see their own characters? Is that going to ruin the experience of others who choose to see the Largos as unique? Only if they let it.
I think it’s a hint!
I don’t remember directly hearing or reading ANet say that the Mursaat were making a comeback, but I have heard others say that ANet did say this directly.
GW1 armor skins, pleeeeeease. Call it a retro fashion store.
They’re trying to group players in the same region so as to make the world feel less empty. Some people don’t like being told where to play, that’s understandable… but I personally enjoy the presence of so many others wherever I am in PvE.
8/10 simple and elegant
My mesmer’s name is Amouri Clovespiel, amour denotes love.
Great looking Sylvari, what armor is that? (I’ve already taken my turn, I’ll let someone else rate your name)
You obviously didn’t see what those ‘innocent’ bunnies did to us in gw1 or you wouldn’t feel that way!

Haha!
I admit, I try to kill rats at mosquitos instead.
Here’s Meralen, Great Elementalist of the Pale Tree, wielder of the tide, and member of the Whispers.
I love Meralen’s color scheme! Not least bc it’s similar to my characters. :P
I made some more diptychs of my Sylvari, using images from the character gen screen instead of the makeover kit screen this time, so they’re better quality than the diptychs I uploaded before. I can’t get over how gorgeous the basic Sylvari character art is!
Man, I regret coming back to the forums. Enjoy being kitten in the threads, I guess.
Same!
I guess if you want to be ridiculed & eviscerated, you go to a gaming forum & announce that you’re leaving. It’s like blood in the water. I mean, if you want to invariably see the very next poster say, “Can I haz ur stuff?” this is a certain way to do that. It’s just one of those guarantees in life.
Since I tire of reading that – not just for lacking in originality, but because it’s cheap & easy, how about, “Sorry to hear that. Good luck wherever you go.”
… maybe because people AREN’T that sorry to hear that a person who thinks their departure from the game warrants an announcement is leaving?
Hair, skin, eye colors?
I guess it all depends on the player’s relationship to their characters. My alts are not REALLY different characters in my mind; instead, I think of them all as different versions of me. Which is why I chose a name that includes my actual IRL name. I would have named them all Schizandra if I could have.
I did try the Charr and Asura, but found that I couldn’t relate to them enough. Their aesthetics, while interesting, didn’t make me feel like I was playing as myself. Obviously I don’t look like a tree IRL, but the Sylvari convey the essence of me perfectly. Kind of a shame because I rolled other races in order to experience their storylines.
I really like your name, but I’ll leave it to someone else to rate bc I’ve run out of names to continue the thread. As for a masculine, powerful Sylvari name… how about MANdrake? :P
I don’t know what expansions they’ve played, but this is hype at best. This is not expansion worth of depth and systems.
From his response earlier, it sounded like a Marketing driven idea to say those things:
Saying something like “expansions worth of content” means different things to everyone, and is nearly an impossible goal to meet expectation wise since everything expects something different, which is a big part of why marketing stepped away from that plan very quickly after asking us to use it when speaking to the press/fans.
It doesn’t sound to me like he agreed with their idea.
I was going to mention this. If I had to guess, I would say that was probably an NCSoft call.
Yes, this kind of thing is why I laugh to myself when people say that Anet is just in this for the money. If they sold emotes and more armor/town skins in the gem store, my wallet might be in trouble. But they don’t take advantage of the gem store as much as they could.
Have they pulled the GW1 servers and I didn’t hear about it? What’s with the nostalgia?
Colin said in an interview that later down the line, living story updates on the same story arc will be released closer together in time. It’s a new thing that they’re implementing right now, so they’re being cautious and taking their time.
I’ll throw out feature wise, many of the things we’ll be doing feature wise across the first half of 2013 are typically the type of features you’d likely only see in a paid expansion traditionally. We’re really excited about the opportunity to be able to do that for Guild Wars 2, and think there is something really compelling in that experience, which is really the only message we wanted folks to take from all of this. March will of course continue this tradition of free releases, major features, and of course the growth of living story as we expand its role in Gw2.
All of that being said, this is exactly why we try and avoid talking about stuff until it’s ready, if we say something early and it ends up not ending up exactly what people expect, it doesn’t work out for anyone. Saying something like “expansions worth of content” means different things to everyone, and is nearly an impossible goal to meet expectation wise since everything expects something different, which is a big part of why marketing stepped away from that plan very quickly after asking us to use it when speaking to the press/fans.
I imagine it’ll still get quoted until the end of time, but hope that helps explain where it came from, and what to expect. Just to re-iterate the post I made back in January:
“To set expectations accordingly, the January release will be a relatively small release that sets the table for the stories and features we plan to roll out with the Feb/March releases and beyond. Also, there will be no new race, profession, or new region with these larger Feb/March releases. One of our major goals with these releases is making our existing world as strong as possible, ensuring there are reasons to go to all the locations in the world we’ve already built, and strengthening the core game we’ve provided. In saying this will be an expansions worth of stuff in these releases, we’re talking about the number of new features that will be rolled out across PvE, WvW, and PvP in early 2013, which usually you’d only find in an expansion for a traditional MMORPG.”
Thanks for the response Colin! We always appreciate when you guys participate in our discussions. Regardless of semantics, I personally am enjoying the new content. I’m intrigued by the living story so far and believe that it was a good addition to the game. I can’t wait to see how it all plays out!
And when the official GW2 expansions do roll out… *cough*Largos*cough*Tengu! I trust you guys to do what’s best for the game, but I’m just sayin’. You could take my money in advance, even.

Centaurs have been shown as major characters since Prophecies, playable since Nightfall. The entire Sylvari race was created by a centaur. They didn’t like humans too much in Prophecies, but neither did Charr or Tengu.
Veldrunner and Maguuma Centaurs are perfect candidates for playable races to be added when either Elona or the Maguuma Jungle are added respectively. As for conflict with the current Modniir lead Centaurs that are enemies, it would make just as much sense as the huge number of Human, Norn, Charr, Asura, and Sylvari I kill every day as it is.
The playable races, including heroes and henchmen in GW1 were, in chronological order:
Human, Tengu, Wallow, Centaur, Dwarf, Asura, Char, Norn.Wallows are animals. Dwarves have been purposely avoided. Human, Dwarf, Asura, and Norn exist. Tengu and Centaur are next.
I would like to see a centaur try to swim, it would be good for a laugh, But no I don’t believe centaurs will be playable. How would they swim? how would armor fit on them. I can’t see a centaur do any of those. They don’t even have armor on the feet, legs or back side meaning Anet has not taken the time to do any of that. They are very unlikely to be playable.
Oh, but they do have armor already made up for them.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Zhed_Shadowhoof/Armor_gallery
As for swimming, basically they would be running underwater. However it would take a large rewrite to make all the armor fit them and I can see the Devs not wanting to take the time to do it.
And that’s why it would be good for a laugh. :P
What about the Mursaat being evil spellcasters who fear ED’s makes you conclude that we won’t see them as enemies?
Appreciating the in-game art (what everyone else in this thread is doing) and drawing conclusions about concept art, or art that was on the website (but not in the game) are two completely different things.
Since they’re not including some combination of new races, profs or maps, I wouldn’t consider it an expansion’s worth of content. ANet has their own history of expansions working against them here; I think perhaps Colin should have used different wording in his comment. GW1 expansions (w the exception of EotN) had new maps, professions and added game mechanics such as opposing factions and the hero system. When people think of an ANet expansion, I think they expect this level of new content, because that’s what expansions have been in the past. I understand those expansions were paid and these patches are not; however, my argument is that the word “expansion” sets player expectations too high. Better off just not using that term in reference to patch content.
Looking back on some other images of the Largos males, it seems that they all have those blue stripes on their arms. And they glow too, like their wings! In some pictures the stripes look 3 dimensional. They almost look like gills, but that would mean they need breathers on their arms instead of their faces (that is of course assuming that their mask IS a breather.
Look at the pic on this page, you can see the back of the wings are the same this was in Aug.
They have the tail-thing, too. I can’t decide if they actually have a tail or if that’s part of their armor. On the last Largos picture the OP posted on that thread… do you see the blue stripes on his bare right arm (left arm, from our perspective)? It looks like a tattoo. I hope so! Tattoos would make the Largos even more awesome!
“I love it when you talk dirt.”
“You weirded out my golem!”
Lol, I personally enjoy the game’s humor. I think the Asura are hilarious. But I find that the game does get serious when it’s necessary. It’s mainly the ambient conversations that are lighthearted.

It’s barely March. Be honest, between reset time to now, how many hours have you spent playing? How much of the playerbase do you think has that much time on their hands?
Um. It’s hard to be sure just by looking at the profile. But judging by the cheekbones I’d say it’s the same face that I used for my thief. I’ll attach a pic, she’s the one on the bottom left hand side.
GW2 graphics and artwork have ruined other MMO’s for me.
I’m guessing this person probably doesn’t have much to do with the personal story. In the recent blog, Angel mentioned trying to prevent a “paradox” if the player is experiencing the personal and living stories at the same time. So I’m thinking it’s a relatively inconsequential (to the personal story) but memorable character.
How does one RP in an MMO? This one in particular has a dearth of emotes. Do you just speak in-character in the chat? Don’t a lot of comments get lost on a popular server?
How people RP differs from game to game. In GW2 most people RP via /say (for dialogue) and /me (for actions and occasional dialogue). Sometimes folks use the few gesture emotes we have, /yes /no /shrug /kneel /sleep all that good stuff, but using emotes is not considered important particularly since we don’t have many. At very well-attended events where it gets impossible to follow the chat window, many people start putting both their dialogue and actions all into /say so others can read the chat bubbles above characters’ heads instead.
Thanks for clarifying. Is it improv or do people meet up on OOC forums to discuss predetermined storylines? I guess that depends on the group too, huh?
8/10. No environment is more appropriate for using a made-up name than a made-up world! Plus I just like the way they look.
“Schizandra” is a medicinal berry; I thought it was suitable name for a plant character. PLUS, my real name is hidden in there somewhere; just won’t say where. Unfortunately someone had already taken that character name.
So, I settled for just having it as my nickname, and named my 4 Sylvari like so:
Schizandria (Elementalist)
Schizandrie (Thief)
Schizandrai (Mesmer)
Schizandrei (Ranger)
How does one RP in an MMO? This one in particular has a dearth of emotes. Do you just speak in-character in the chat? Don’t a lot of comments get lost on a popular server?
That’s a good thread to read up on the races, plenty of debate between players supporting “this” race over “that” race, lore arguments, etc. Good stuff. It seems the Tengu are pretty unanimously expected to be the next playable race. Other big nominees are Largos (my vote!) and Kodan.
I LOOOVE the art in this game! Even my characters are works of art. Tyria is candy for the eyes.
