What's the buzz on new professions?

Wow! I hit a nerve apparently. I have to confess I didn’t read that particular angry wall of text beyond the first sentence. I’m mainly just interested in news or even rumors of what people have heard from ANet regarding new professions, if any.

Before launch at a convention (dont remember which) the devs were asked about new professions in expansions. And if i recall correctly they said that new professions were unlikely, and would rather expand current professions with new weapons (Johanssen actually hinted strongly towards Battleaxes).
This was a lopng time ago tho so they might have changed their mind.

They video of the panel should be on the Arenanet youtube channel.

Thanks! That’s pretty much the kind of info I’m looking for.

Still would love to see a link to that article with a GW2 Ritualist. Mainly to see if it’s legit.

possable also you could have a heavy armor spellcaster (Guards dont fit that role)

We already have a spellcaster. Putting heavy armor on a spellcaster doesn’t make it something else.

Well, soldiers are the only classification without a class that uses an alternate mechanic instead of weapon swapping. Something like a class that swaps stance styles with a single set, a spellsword of some sort that alternates between melee and range with each weapon, or a druidic heavy class that changes his inner animal to completely change his weapon skills (sort of like a more creative Udyr from League of Legends) would all be worthy candidates.

I also agree that Druids are unlikely for the reasons Foxx stated. As for the spellsword that can alternate between melee and ranged, Elementalists and Mesmers already do that to a large extent, just without the obvious switching.

In one of the latest articles there was an image of a Ritualist with GW2 graphics.
This may not indicate anything, but still.

Ooo. Where? Link please?

shrug I like the animations. I like how my Sylvari girls hold their greatswords like they can barely lift them. That’s how it should be, those swords are huge!

Game is running out of things to do

I’m also solely PvP. I’ve got 4 characters. I plan on making 4 more, to try the professions I don’t currently have. I don’t think I’ll ever run out of things to do in this game. Repetition is not really repetition for me if I am playing with a different character and profession. My only regret is that I don’t like any of the non-Sylvari races enough to roll them and experience their racial story lines.

The Factions and Nightfall professions were absorbed by the current GW2 professions as they are, from what I understand. I know people think we need a 3rd heavy armor profession, but what would it do that isn’t already covered by current classes?

In any case, I don’t mean to say that I don’t want debate about new professions in this thread (I don’t care and I’m happy to participate in that) but there are already many threads on that. Here I’m mostly asking what people have heard about from ANet or others about whether or not it will happen, and sources if possible.

Does anyone have any current or recent news about whether new professions are going to be included in future expansions? I can’t remember reading anything directly from the devs either for or against new professions, but here and there in the forums, people claim to have heard something about it. I can’t find any one thread where the likelihood of new professions is discussed; it’s only discussed piecemeal when someone suggests a specific new profession. So I’m starting this thread.

I’ve personally changed my opinion on this; I hope that no new professions will be introduced, for the sake of combat balance and because all roles seem to be filled. So I’m looking for news on this because I’m selfishly hoping that the devs are NOT spending time working on new professions. :P

schizandra.4587

If player housing was implemented, would each character have their own house? I think it would be interesting to have a single instanced house for all my characters, where they would hang out while I’m not playing them. We could enter the home with any one of our characters and interact with our non-active characters like they were NPC’s. They could even have custom dialogue based on their Cycle, College, Legion, etc., and on what they’ve accomplished in the game, where they’re at story-wise. As an altoholic, it’s always been my dream to see my characters standing next to each other in-game. Fighting together would be even better (like the Hero system in GW1) but I know that’s even more of a dream.

I did try SWTOR just the other day, simply because I’ve never played a scifi rpg, online or otherwise. First thing I thought was, what do you mean I have to pay to play a Twi’lek?! Either pay, or invest hours playing a species that I don’t want, in order to start over completely once I get enough Legacy to unlock the species that I do want? SWTOR’s business model sucks, plain and simple. Since it bombed so badly at the beginning, I guess Bioware couldn’t afford to use a B2P model like GW2 that would allow new users to enjoy the whole game, so they made a stupidly restricted F2P model instead.

Still, I rolled a human just to see what the content was like. I got I there… Yuck and yuck. I hear that SWTOR storyline is actually good, but I couldn’t get into it because I’m spoiled by GW2 graphics. But come on! It’s not like they even had to do any creative work – the Star Wars universe is already beautiful and amazing and PREDESIGNED. All they had to do was do it justice graphics-wise and they somehow still managed to crap it up! Aion was released 2 years before SWTOR and is visually superior. Bioware has no excuse. Boo and boo.

Anyway. I went on a tangent, sorry. Point is, yes I concur that other MMO’s are ruined for me too. I may be swayed by TESO, but we will see.

6th playable race, what's your top 3 pick?

in Lore

Posted by: schizandra.4587

schizandra.4587

2 of my top 3 are the ones that make the most sense – Largos and Tengu. Everyone has already discussed why they make the most sense, so I won’t go into it here. My opinion here is based purely on their looks. :P

1) Largos – these are my top pick because I’d someday like to play something other than the Sylvari, and aesthetically, the other races just don’t appeal to me enough. (Humans=beautiful but boring… Norn=big humans… Charr=uncute cats, boo… Asura=these were an “almost” for me, but I ultimately found their cuteness insufficient compared to Sylvari beauty.) Largos I think have the potential to match the Sylvari in terms of beauty AND otherworldly uniqueness, not to mention color and GLOW! I just hope that they’re not hideous under those masks. If ANet can make salad people look beautiful, I’m sure they can make fish people look beautiful too. I can’t wait to see their swimming animations! I’d envision their movement to be up and down like mermaids, while the “wings” would ripple like a manta ray’s.

2) Tengu – while I wouldn’t play one, I like the Tengu presence in the game. They look cool. I’d be really interested to know what Tengu females would look like, as I don’t think I’ve seen any yet. If anyone has a link to a female Tengu, please post it! Based on the lore though, I’m worried that Tengu females might be disappointing compared to the males, since their colors are supposed to be plainer. ANet haven’t always followed gender lore, though. The female Charr are supposed to be lithe (I read: “feminine”) compared to males, but to me they just look like less ugly males.

3) I’m really not sure. Kodan, probably. Most of the arguments against them can be refuted by current game content. So what if the Norn already have a bear form? They have a big cat form too, that didn’t kick the Charr out of the running. So what if they’re all white? Asura in lore are mostly grey. That didn’t stop the devs putting other colors in the gen. So what if males and females look the same? Again, look at the Asura. I don’t particularly like the Kodan, but they’re popular so I don’t see the devs kicking out the possibility of playable Kodan yet.

Mursaat might have been #3 for me, but I don’t know enough about what they look like under the cool armor. In some pics they look almost rotted, so I don’t know about that. Besides, it might be redundant to have 2 masked races, and I’m with the Largos all the way with that one.

Not ONLY same sex partnerings. There was the whole Bercilak story. I haven’t gotten too far in the game, so that’s the only one that co to mind…

I kind of get the sense though that gender doesn’t really matter to sylvari, since they don’t make babies the way other races do. Male/female distinctions seem to be purely aesthetic, from a lore standpoint.

IMO the humans and norn look so boring next to sylvari. The charr and asura are also infinitely more interesting to look at than plain ol’ people, though their looks aren’t to my tastes. Flower Power!

There’s so many players in this game. I don’t know if implementing that much persistent housing could be done without sacrificing the integrity and beauty of the game. See, I’d want housing in the Grove. Me and thousands of others, I’m sure. I seriously doubt that thousands of persistent player homes in the Grove could be created without the place looking like a huge hornet’s nest.

I think instanced neighborhoods is the way to go.

I haven’t even gotten around to meeting the largos in game, my chars are still pretty low level. But they would be my #1 choice for a new playable race. They look amazing and there is plenty of room for customization. Tengu would be my 2nd choice, but they’ll probably come out first.

It seems to me that the most likely candidates are the races NOT on the sympathy list.

Sylvari Cultural Armor Dye

in Suggestions

Posted by: schizandra.4587

schizandra.4587

Boo! I didn’t realize that this happened with the sylvari cultural armors. I ONLY play sylvari; this would annoy me to no end, too!

It seems to be an unintended side effect of the sylvari’s broad color spectrum that they are more vulnerable to color clashes in aspects of customization that can’t be controlled. This is an example I cited in a thread requesting weapon dyes: a sylvari with black skin, red glow and white hair is going to clash WAY more with a kudzu bow (green/yellow/pink) than say, a human with tan skin, blonde hair and blue eyes.

This problem with the cultural armor is another example of the tendency of sylvari to be mismatched. We need to be able to control the color of our sylvari’s gear!

I know a few things, like exotics are needed to craft legendaries, but I don’t know what the difference between mystic and exotic is, and I just NOW heard of ascendeds mentioned in another thread. I can’t find a guide or anything that explains it all. Might someone please explain to me what these terms mean and how they relate to each other? Or otherwise direct me to a helpful guide? I did try the official GW2 wiki, it wasn’t any help. I couldn’t find anything on google, either.

The old professions are missed, to be sure. I also miss their armor styles, in particular the ritualist and dervish styles. The lore may not allow exactly the old professions to return, but hopefully in future expansions some version of them will make a comeback.

I have to add in reference to a previous post; when did the ritualist ever use heavy armor or behave as a tank?? In my experience, they were a cross of necromancers and monks. Def. not enough health to be a tank.

Housing, In game feed back, oh and a clock

I would love for there to be some kind of personalized housing for players. The racial home instances have the potential to be that, I think. I haven’t been in any other than the sylvari dreamers terrace, but that one has so many little homes that it would be perfect to choose one and set it up as we like, perhaps buy furnishings and place trophies for in-game accomplishments. Maybe even some extra storage for weapons, armors and food etc., and little crafting stations.

schizandra.4587

This is a suggestion for Suggestions.

I’ve been browsing this forum and wow, do some people suggest some dumb, err… questionable features. The value of a suggestion is, of course, subject to opinion, but I think it can be reasonably stated that some suggestions have the support of the majority of the GW2 community, while other suggestions just invite ire and negativity. The thing is, regardless of the value of any suggestion, all suggestions are bumped down the forum as new ones are posted.

I think there needs to be a better way for the Devs to know which suggestions are the most important to the GW2 community. I’m suggesting a system kind of like the “LIKE” and “DISLIKE” buttons on youtube. The most highly supported suggestions should stay at the top of the forum, or be in plain view somehow. In addition to letting the Devs know what their audience really wants, it would help cut down on redundant suggestions. And best of all, less thought-out suggestions will be rated down, and be bumped below the more useful contributions to the forum.

I know the sticky mentions that they have a new suggestions system in the works that is better than this current one. I don’t know if it will still be in forum format or something else, but I hope they implement some way for us to rate suggestions. To help the Devs prioritize!

GW1 aspects (weapon skins, dyeable options)

in Suggestions

Posted by: schizandra.4587

schizandra.4587

Another pretty please for this idea! Specifically the weapon dyeing part (though I would love more GW1 skins as well).

Especially for sylvari, weapon dyeing is aesthetically important bc the sylvari come in so many colors. A sylvari w/ black skin, white hair and red glow, for example, is going to clash a LOT more with a kudzu bow (which is green/pink/yellow) than, say… a human w/ tan skin, blonde hair and green eyes would clash with it.

I guess technically now that the total makeover kit is out, we could change our sylvari characters to match the color schemes of the weapons we want. But that costs money, and I think most players like their sylvari characters in the colors they already have.

ANet, please implement weapon dyeing like in GW1!
