I love how my GW2 chars look, but yes… more variations in character creation would be so amazing. A revamp would sell a lot of Total Makeover Kits, too.

Hi Kodesh, this is a really great thread. You’ve been very resourceful in finding ways to keep your favorite hobby, which is admirable.

I have a suggestion. An earlier poster mentioned the 3dconnexion SpaceMouse Pro, and I know you said the price was a little too steep for you. There is another 3d mouse by the same company called SpaceNavigator, which is basically just the knob part. It has no buttons so obviously the Naga works better than the SpaceNavigator for your hand, but what if you were to use the SpaceNavigator with your foot? The joystick motions can all be mapped to all keystrokes, so that would give you plenty more options than pedals.

I’m on an iPad right now and I’m having trouble linking video, but if you go to YouTube and search “SpaceNavigator World of Warcraft”, the first video that comes up will be a demo of this 3D mouse. At about 5:15 is when the reviewer starts talking about mapping controls for gaming applications. Best part is, it’s 1/3 the price of the SpaceMouse Pro.

Now, I’ve never tried this myself, for all I know the SpaceNavigator might need more finesse than a foot can handle. But it’s just something to think about.

Oh, I misread it… it was a PLUS, not a requirement to be familiar w Asian MMOs. That kind of feeds into my hunch though that they’re making a GW2 version just for China.

I would like to bury this topic in the ground after seeing this:

’’DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a highly creative and extremely passionate person to serve as a designer working on content being developed for Guild Wars 2 in China. The game designer will work closely with the design leads to ensure that the core vision, game content, and gameplay created is carried through the development of new content, features and live operation of Guild Wars 2.

PLUSES:

Familiarity with Chinese and Korean online games.’’

http://ch.tbe.taleo.net/CH05/ats/careers/requisition.jsp?org=NCSOFT&cws=1&rid=1354

We can take from this that the to be hired Game Designer will work on Guild Wars 2, we can also take from this that it’s a plus to be familiar with Asian online games.

Ofcourse this doesn’t say specifically that Guild Wars 2 would need a game designer for Asian themes in the game but if NCSoft would ask ArenaNet to stray away from it and keep it neutral. Why request specific for familiarity with Korean and Chinese online games? Also why would NCSoft ask such a thing of ArenaNet to keep it neutral? I don’t believe that they have power over that.

I would also like to note that it is inevitable that we travel to Cantha and Elona for that matter, it is a part of Guild Wars as much as Tyria is. It might take months or years before we go there but we will return because it would be silly to believe that developers haven’t thought of returning to other continents while working on the original ‘’Prophecies if you will’’ Guild Wars 2.

Ofcourse they are going to say we might do it, we haven’t really thought or talked about it much but that’s ofcourse the code of secrecy they must obey. Otherwise tomorrow we would read just about everywhere that an expansion of some sort is leaked or hinted by an ArenaNet employee.

Returning to other continents with the new game engine of Guild Wars 2, it would be of epic proportions to see the renewed Kaineng City, Jade Sea, Desolation and what have you. I know for certain that it was on everybody’s mind at ArenaNet when they saw Guild Wars 2 take shape and how epic those area’s would be.

I think this is a good sign too, but for a different reason. It almost seems to me that they are planning on making a version of GW2 specifically for China. That may mean that their version won’t include “offending” Canthan content, but maybe our version will? I don’t think their requirement for a designer familiar with Asian MMOs means that they are asking for one experienced with designing Asian THEMES… just that the designer knows what a typical Chinese or Korean grinder is supposed to be like.

Does anyone dual/multi-box?

@draakdorei thanks for the build. Will that page be available for me to refer to later or is it a page temporarily generated by the editor?

@goldenwing, Lafiel and others who have done legit (non-3rd party program) multiboxing with GW2, do you use MMO mice or keypads? I can’t help but feel that being able to control one toon per hand would help immensely with effective dual boxing. Speaking of the left-handed Razer Naga I mentioned earlier, I was happy to see that Razer finally did an update on it today via their Facebook page (after a year of no news). https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151808951187576&set=a.77781772575.101784.13848807575&type=1&theater
Now that I know the left handed version IS coming, I know my dual boxing setup will involve a Naga in each hand. I believe you that GW2’s motion based combat will make dual boxing difficult. I’ll cut my teeth on simple PvE and see where I can go from there.

@Hellkaiser, I’m hoping most players will be too busy with their own characters to notice mine and confuse them as bots. But I will be careful.

What would be so hard about setting down a wall of fire with an Ele and getting a Ranger behind it to shoot some arrows? Or other similar scenarios? Like anything else, it would get easier with practice. The peripherals we discussed above would help too.

I wouldn’t expect to be as good as two separate players each playing a single character. With time, my goal is to be able to to play 2 toons as well as I play 1 toon. I’d have the added benefits of being able to trigger my own combos, being able to revive myself as long as one toon is left standing, being able to gather more materials, and just the joy of being able to see 2 of my Sylvari running around Tyria together.

Note that this is not a thread asking if dual/multiboxing is allowed, as ANet has already clarified that as long as each character is being individually controlled by the player (ie no key broadcasting and such) this style of play IS permitted. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/whats-the-deal-with-multi-boxing/first#post1536295

I’m interested in dual boxing in GW2 because it would be fun to play with combos between 2 characters. Since combat is so quick paced, coordinating combos with other players is difficult especially since we can’t talk to each other via audio. If combos happen, it’s usually just because of lucky timing. I would like to be able to orchestrate combos myself using my own characters. Plus I miss the hero system from GW1 and I see dual boxing sort of as a way to bring that back; better than that actually, since I’d be able to control both characters’ actions. So questions for players who dual or multibox…

- Which professions do you like to combine when you multibox?
- What skill builds do you find the most useful when teaming up professions?
- What’s the best way to legitimately control 2 or more characters simultaneously? Do you use gaming peripherals like keypads or MMO mice with thumb button grids?

And any other useful bits you’d like to share.

It is not possible to multibox legitimately the way you have mentioned just now. Anet has stated multiboxing is legitimate only to the extent that no third party software is used to replicate inputs on both game accounts. I.E the only way to do it is by having two computers 2 monitors side by side with two keyboard and two mouse and playing both simultaneously. That is obviously not an effective method to play the game at all and you’ll just be putting the effectiveness of the party down.

The only way you can really reap benefits out of this is by doing world events in which tagging is much easier even if you had to control simultaneous accounts. However, doing this ultimately is a huge waste of time and you will not reap any real benefits unless you invest a huge amount of time in it. So, multiboxing ultimately serves no real benefit besides from providing you with a second account to play on.

I’m really confused as to why people keep assuming that I’d be using 3rd part software. I thought it was perfectly well known within the gaming community what true, legitimate multiboxing is? I didn’t think I had to explain it, and regardless, reading this thread beyond the 1st post would have told anyone that I AM planning on using 2 separate rigs and that competitive edge is not my end purpose for learning to dual box. I want to do it because it will be fun to play 2 of my characters at one time, and have them work together. That is MY benefit, and not yours to decide.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Q-Is-multi-boxing-allowed

Hello,

Multiboxing is very simmilar to botting and 3rd party programming so according to Anet’s policy it is strictly forbidden. Please, refrain from making use of this and report any player you see making use of this.

Since the question has been answered , this thread is closed.

Thanks

EDIT: This post has been quoted in other forum posts, but it is inaccurate. ArenaNet does not prohibit Multi- or Dual-Boxing as along as the player is active on each account and is not botting or using other third-party programs to “play” the account.

Given that there is no auto-follow and tons of roots, snares, knock-backs, the need to dodge, and other obstacles… it’s not possible to do without breaking the rules.

A quick comparison of the dates for my ANet quote and yours would have shown that mine is much more recent. I’d appreciate if everyone would stop discussing the legality of legitimate multiboxing, because it’s already been addressed and it’s off my topic. I would like to avoid the closing of my thread due to the mods thinking it’s just another “is multiboxing allowed” thread. Thank you.

Thanks draakdorei, I’ve looked at the DeathAdder but wrote it off as not having enough buttons. But mapping things the way you’re describing might work. I’m exclusively a PvE player, mostly solo so I wouldn’t have to worry about dragging other players down with my clumsy 2-toon weight.

I’ve never played a warrior before, would a full-signet warrior function similarly to a tank? That would work out well to have it autoattack while my Ranger or Elementalist picks off mobs from a distance.

Two instances on two computers, actually. I don’t expect to be able to use both of them to full capacity. I expect when I’m not using them to combo, I’ll be letting one auto attack while focusing most of my attention on the other. This is for my purposes of fun, and being able to play two of my hard-worked on characters simultaneously. I’m sure I’ll be bad at it at first, maybe even forever, but that doesn’t really bother me.

@GrandmaFunk, I’ll keep my eye out for the left-handed Naga that Razer has promised, thanks. Until then I’m thinking one character on a Naga w my right hand, the other on a Nostromo w my left hand.

chances of Elonians as a playable race?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: schizandra.4587

schizandra.4587

Lazy because they wouldn’t need to change the human models at all. At most they would need to add more Elonian-looking face models. It is currently completely possible to make an Elonian looking character with the current human options.

Lazy because all the viable candidates for future player races (namely the Tengu, Largos and possibly Kodan) would require a lot more work, updated models, modified armors, added options for customization, etc. They would all need their lore to be fleshed out more, to match the volume of backstory of the current playable races. All of this on TOP of new storylines, cities and zones like you mentioned. Despite all this work, these races are the 3 most highly demanded to become playable. There is only one reason ANet would choose Elonians or Canthans or any other human “race” over a REAL new race, and that would be because they would take the least work to release. Lazy.

While I think this idea would be nice and fun, I really doubt it’s something Anet will consider. Considering how long an expansion would take to create, I agree they probably started working on it already. I don’t think it makes sense to refer to the timetables of expansion releases for games that are subbed (or have only recently gone F2P) in terms of predicting when a B2P title will release its first expansion. P2P can afford to take their sweet time with expansions, after all. Considering the dearth of desirable items in the gem store, I think GW2 will need timely paid expansions to stay afloat.

I started thinking later on that it might be fun to have player initiated mini-games for times like these, when a big group is gathered around waiting for an event to start. Silly but entertaining kids’ games like freeze tag, hide and go seek, or dodgeball. Or some kind of GW2 equivalent, invented by the devs.

It could be a group event triggered by activating some physical thing nearby, or it could be triggered with a consumable. Just a thought! It would be more fun than standing around.

Largos must be a new race

schizandra.4587

To the Norn part: Maybe you should read everything I stated, I stated that much of the lore behind the kodan is still a mystery. Guild Wars Eye of the North stated that Norn can only temporarily shapeshift. Also in all of the Speculated Lore of the norn, none of it comes to them being able to hold a shapeshifted form for long periods of time. They all prelude to minimal shapeshifting ability. I Stated the Kodan outlook as it was the only real solid reason why, be it speculation or not. Even in the game the Kodan NPC’s talk about Norn being

  • their children
  • Losing their way
  • Forgetting their heritage

Is this grounds for canon… NO because Arena Net is good for not concreting anything till it needs to be.

As far as the Largos:

The NPC you take on your way through your Personal story line states a few times about how her Race is an aquatic race and can not be on land for long periods of time. Also if you read my last post you would have seen I have no objection to the largos being playable, I just don’t see how with the information they have put forth thus far it would work. Sorry your obviously in love with the largos as a race, and I get it, although there are things that just don’t work wit them. Who knows maybe when they release bubbles the Asurains will come up with a way to outfit the Largos so they can stay on land. Although putting forth a slew of text that is obviously put forth in an irritated and angry fashion doesn’t change what has been put forth in The Game and in the Guild Wars.

My debate muscles start twitching when people put forth their speculations as fact. For example, you didn’t mention until after my reply that the Kodan story is the only one that makes sense (to you). You put it forth like it was the only story. Whether the Norn themselves are able to keep track of the origins of their own race is a debate for another day. Suffice to say they don’t agree with the Kodan about the issue and whose story makes the most sense is subjective opinion.

As far as Norn transformations are concerned; you changed your wording again in your reply to me. First you said they can only transform for short periods of time: now you’re saying their transformations are temporary. Temporary can mean anything from seconds to days; all it means is that the change isn’t permanent. Regardless of what was actually said in EotN, I doubt that anything suggested that the change would be as short as 30 seconds. That time limit was put in place for gameplay’s sake.

As for the Largos NPC you’re referring to, I think you mean Sayeh al’Rajihd. But I also have never seen that quote anywhere in her dialogue.

Largos must be a new race

in Suggestions

schizandra.4587

You need to learn the lore a little bit more, Norn can only assume the shape of the spirit they choose for a short period of time. This is their penance for turning their back on the Kodan ways and beliefs. The Kodan ( even though much of their lore is still a mystery), are effectively Norn in permanent state of Winter Bear form. Yes Kodan are not Norn, but the Norn once learned how to shapeshift and commune through the Kodan. So no a Norn can never stay in a spirit animal form ( Wolf, Raven, Bear, Snow Leopard ) Hench is why you never see any NPC in the game permanently in spirit animal form.

People also need to realize that the world do not trust Largos, hell most of the world don’t even realize they exist, Largos are aquatic creatures and there for can not be on land for long periods of time. That mask they wear keeps them from dying when they are on land. They are assassins, that is how the race is raised from childhood, they are un trusting of other races, this is explained if you just listen to what the Largos has to say in personal story line.

The only two viable races for later expansions will be the Kodan and the Tengu. We will see the Tengu when we go south east, and see the Kodan when we go into the far northern areas. Heylik are a sub race, although they can easily be playable I just don’t think we will see them any time soon. Skirtt are a hive culture meaning the more a skiritt is alone the dumber he gets, Also explained in the game if you listen to NPC. Quaggan wont happen either, they are a peaceful race that only fights when they are directly threaten and have no other option, Personal story line explains this also.

Where are YOU getting your info? It’s right there in the wiki that there are 3 theories about the origins of the Norn, none of which have been confirmed – the one about the Kodan is the one the Kodan themselves made up. Therefore nothing in what you said argues against the Norn being able to transform for long periods of time according to thier own lore. Until you can provide another reliable source confirming that the Kodan story is the right one and Norn really CAN’T transform for long periods of time even in the lore… Gypsy’s point about game balance trumping lore is a valid one that will easily apply to the Largos as it does to the Norn.

Also, where did you get the idea that the Largos can’t spend a long time out of water? Not in the available lore – I’ve read that up and down and nowhere does it say that. And even if their culture keeps to themselves now, a dragon (Bubbles) can very easily change that, just like the Asura kept to themselves until the Great Destroyer forced them out among the other races. Like Gypsy said, there is no argument against the Largos that has not already been brought up and dealt with. You can choose to ignore the explanations and lore simply because you don’t want the Largos as a playable race; that’s fine. Doesn’t change the validity of the arguments in their favor, though.

Thank You for the Sylvari

The Sylvari match my personality and values more closely than any other fantasy race I’ve encountered. I tried the other races in GW2 and just couldn’t get into them. As far as I’m concerned, I AM Sylvari! The Grove is so enchantingly beautiful that part of me never wants to leave it to go adventuring. And as for the Sylvari themselves, I ended up making 4 at the same time because I couldn’t decide on a single look to commit to. So many gorgeous choices! Yes, thank you very much for the Sylvari.

Not to hijack the thread or anything…..

But I hopped over here from the WvW/PvP threads I normally take place in…..and I can’t stop laughing here….. xD

While I understand it would suck to farm for an armor piece and have it marginally changed……I really can’t understand why people are THIS upset?

IMHO A-Net has much, much bigger things to worry about (WvW culling, skill lag in pve and wvw, new game content, bugs, glitches, hacks, exploits, class skills working incorrectly, and a LOT of other major game issues) So seeing a thread where people are pretty upset about a shoulder strap being altered and ear-muffs being a few inches higher…..I have to laugh. Character looks are nice, but as long as there are things that affect actual gameplay….I really think cosmetics should take a back seat.

Didn’t mean to derail, but thought it would be fair to provide some of “the other sides” opinion.

Unless you’ve had the physical appearance of your character changed for the worse, AND your reaction was what you think these people’s reaction should be, you really have no place making an opinion here.

When the Total Makeover Kit bug was breaking the glow for the female Sylvari we used it on, you’d better believe we made a huge stink about it. Character appearance is very important to people. We work so hard to make them look exactly the way we want them to. If the devs didn’t know how important looks are to players, they wouldn’t have created the legendary weapons, which are aesthetic improvements that take a whole lot more work to create for no stat advantage. To have your character’s look changed without your consent via dev decision or game bug is FRUSTRATING to say the least. It’s something that makes you madder every time you log in and stare at your character.

what is in the expansion?

What expansion?

The expansion they’ll announce to counter The Elder Scrolls Online.

It’s an Elder Scrolls game. It will be countered by horrible game breaking bugs that can’t be modded out by the modding community because it’s an MMO. And counting on those developers to fix anything by themselves is just hopeless.

Does it matter? This game has what people call “horrible game breaking bugs” and yet here we all still are.

Hype for TESO is high. People have crazy hopes and will have a lot of patience for it. I know I will. I don’t see myself leaving GW2 completely when TESO comes out, but I’ll be spending less time with it… unless a GW2 expansion does come out around that time. It’s a perfect time for it, he’s right.
