Having same problem as OP. Constant crashes for last few weeks…
Guess who’s back! It’s me btw! Bump
Bump for great justice!
Greetings everyone!
Last Heirs Of The Sun [SUN] is a casual guild on EU servers. We are PvE focused guild that welcomes all players, be it newcomers or veterans. We do dungeons, fractals, world events, map events, guild missions and more. We are chilled and laid back players who enjoy playing the game casually and at our own pace. We are not concerned with meta builds, about speedrunning and exploting content or about getting to the final chest easiest way possible. We don’t oppose to meta, we just don’t require it.
We are looking for like minded people to accept into our ranks. If you’re one of those players who avoided dungeons or fractals because of toxic community or high demands like AP or certain gear, you will have no problem playing with us. You can play however you like. Despite everyone playing what they want, we still have smooth runs that only last few mintues more than regular speedruns (depends on the dungeon and path of course).
If you’re new player, we would be glad to help you getting starteted and answer your questions.
What can you expect from us:
- Friendly and mature guild based on EU servers
- chilled, relaxed environment where you play however you want
- smooth dungeon/fractal runs with NO skipping and exploting!
- experienced, long time players who can help newcomers
- guild missions
- fun guild events
- able to become an officer eventually
- Gilded Hollow
- voice chat (discord)
… and more ^^
What we expect from you:
- be on EU servers
- able to speak and understand english
- be respectful to your guildmates
- be active and participate in guild activities
- no begging/asking for stuff (like mats or gold) in guild chat
If you think you would fit among us, please feel free to contact any of the contacts below:

Berserker mesmer.
The tenebrous crystals also come from mining the ore node in the guild hall. You get anywhere from 0 to 10 a day.
Its more like anywhere from 0 to 10 per swing. In theory (probably has been someone lucky enough), you could get 30 in a tier 1 node.
Not with my luck, Mined the node 3x already and I only got 2 crystals so far. And I need 5 of them for legs. GG Anet.
Couldn’t you just put all the requirements in that first recipe, so once I buy the recipe, I can see exactly what mats I need?
I’m unclear because I don’t have any interest in making this item myself but is this on the wiki what you want? If so it’s all in one place so everyone can see exactly what they need up front.
Yes, but it’s disappointing that I have to google it. I mean, when I decided to craft it, I went to merchant to buy the recipe. I tought it’s simple, buy recipe, see what mats you need, get them and craft the thing. But it turned out it’s quite unnecessarily complicated.
It gets frustrating and ruins ones experience if you need to google so many things about the game, because if you don’t, then you can easily make so many bad decisions or spend so much time or money figuring something out that should be actually pretty simple.
Mesmer vs Warrior - Solo & Casual Play

i played mesmer most of my time, but since hot i had to try different class because my mesmer survivability in hot is very low.
the thing i don’t get with clones is that no mob will ever get fooled in to aggro them, they run straight to you. although there is a fractal level, the one with dredges and the suit or ice elemental at the end, that will always aggro my clones and instead i want it to run at us instead, and that is driving me mad because i do little to no damage without clones
Don’t use clones for distraction, use them for damage and support. Use phantasms to do damage and reflect (warden) and use clones to do damage by shattering them. If you’re pure power build shattering is great burst damage and you can finish weak mobs very quickly which makes it easier to fight tougher mobs then. If you’re condition build, then shattering clones is also very effective with right traits ofc, because they will put a lot of conditions on mobs. You can keep generating new ones and shattering them while you can keep evading mobs yourself and keep pressure from distance with whatever ranged weapon you like, probably staff or scepter.

I have both mesmer and warr, but I survive on mesmer way easier as zerk.
Wells and feedback will take care of pretty much everything except certain champions of course. I also like to play shatterer in open world and it works very well.
The tenebrous crystals also come from mining the ore node in the guild hall. You get anywhere from 0 to 10 a day.
Thanks, didn’t know that. I checked it out now, but ofc, no luck, didn’t get the thing…. Again RNG…. sigh
Solo players cannot advance in the new content, and any decent publisher would disclose such a fundamental change prior to taking your money.
They did. This is an MMORPG and is marketed as such. Not just multiplayer, but MASSIVELY Multiplayer.
http://internet-games.yoexpert.com/mmorpgs/what-s-the-difference-between-an-mmorpg-and-mmo-1636.html
Multiplayer means you’re playing a game with other real players around the world, it doesn’t mean you’re playing game that requires cooperation and teamwork to progress.
True, but in the other hand it would be a bit dumb to gather so many players around an event and never make them care about others by requesting some form of cooperation and teamwork: take a look a triple trouble, tequatl, tarir
That was not the point of that comment and of my reply. But yes, I agree, teamwork and cooperation is nice, but events should properly scale. I wish dungeons would also scale and we could do them solo and up to 10-man team.
You can already solo dungeons….10 man dungeons? I don’t know, with 5 it is already pretty easy, Anet team dungeon was already disbanded years ago. If you 10 man instanced content you should try raid, as for 5-man content, fractals are the way to go
There are quite a quite a few paths you can’t solo. Few examples are all of coe, cof p1+p3, cm p2 etc…
Plus let’s be honest here, how many people you think can solo dungeons? There are few of those that can. I bet there are people who would enjoy soloing but they just are not good enough or they play a class that is not good at soloing, because some paths can be very hard to solo. Or there are probably also people who would love to do duo runs, only with their partners or their friend. If anet would make all dungeons doable with any number of players (1-10) and to properly scale, that would do a lot for replayability in dungeons and enjoyement for all kind of players. There are players who don’t play dungeons because of toxic community.
And yes, I know they abandened dungeons long ago, I was just saying it would be nice thing to have. And yes, 10man dungeons would work, AGAIN, if they would make them scale properly, just like I was talking for world events.

kitten I feel better now.
So I wanted to get a piece of “new” guild armor for the first time after HoT release (had long break from game in between) and I just realised what a mess guild hall is. So many NPCS and merchant, I always get confused and gotta run around to look for the right one, it’s just annoying. But to the main point of this topic:
So I check the guild armourer and see what I need to buy the recipe for particular piece of armour. Good. Waited to do guild missions on sunday with guild and got those crystals from DS, came back, bought recipe, was excited to finally craft the thing, but OH NO, the recipe needs another freaking recipe to be completed (guild insignia). WHAT THE HELL!? And that’s not all, after I spent another week to get additional guild commendations to by additional freaking recipe, I then bought it and went to finally craft the thing. Well guess what dummy? Not so fast, first you need to get another commendation to buy some tenebrous crystal or whatever, which I can’t buy because I have to wait for RNG to decide to put that thing on the list of what that stupid merchant is selling. She seems to be selling few items each day and those items change every day. What the hell is this!? Who thought this would be a fun way to earn or craft something? This is ridiculous. I’m sorry to make such a big deal out of this, but this is just…. I can’t possibly understand why this was made in such a stupid way.
Couldn’t you just put all the requirements in that first recipe, so once I buy the recipe, I can see exactly what mats I need? And if you think cost is too small, just make it 15 commendation and 20 crystals or whatever, JUST PUT THE WHOLE THING THERE SO I KNOW WHAT I NEED. No, instead it’s a freaking puzzle and each week you realise you need another freaking thing that you must wait for to get. It’s like buying a computer, but adapter is secretly missing, so you can’t use the kitten thing.
I know it’s not 3 weeks for everyone because if you have enough commendations you can buy both recipes immediately, but I do guild missions rarely, because I don’t really enjoy doing them. Plus even if I had enough commendations immediately, I would still need to wait for the stupid RNG on that merchant. facepalm

Correct me if I’m wrong please, but I don’t see a single glider skin that is available to unlock or earn as reward for playing the game.
You can unlock glider skins. I got a sparkly black one with green trail and havent bought any skin. No idea how it was unlocked though, if its just gliding rank or something else.
Also you are not “forced” to replace stock. Seriously, its just a skin.
“It’s just a skin.” So are legendary weapons, yet they are still big and important part of the game and a lot of people seem to not be happy about getting only 3 new legendaries with xpac. And I could obviously give many more examples, since this game is filled with shiny stuff to get. Don’t say it’s just a “skin”. For some people skins and character customization is main thing about the game. It’s what drives them to play it.
With your logic, no one should be complaining, because we could say, hey, “it’s just achievements, just some numbers next to your nick, who cares” or “it’s just gold, why do you play the game for virtual money?” or I can make same point for whatever you enjoy in the game. It’s all for your entertainment.
Er yeah that might be smallest thing ever.
For you maybe, but you clearly can’t speak for everyone. Plus I said this is ONE of the things, and there are a lot of things.
You get a free glider.
No s*it, when did I said you don’t get one?
You can glide in HoT and Tyria.
No kitten , when did I say you can’t glide in Hot and Tyria.
You have enough money to buy a better glider.
Really? How do you know? Plus this is not the point of this debate. The point is that A-net could easily afford to put one single glider skin to be available to get as reward for completing some content or achievement or whatever, but they chose not to which is really disappointing.
You choose not to so you haven’t been “forced” to do anything.
I guess I have to make it simple for you to understand. By putting force in quotas (") I meant most people would feel like they want to buy it, because let’s face it, this game is pretty much fashion wars for many players and the basic (default) gliders is no way near being fashionable.
How about not using it?
How about you don’t make stupid posts and try to argue with me just for the sake of arguing and trying to prove me wrong?
Problem, surely, solved.
Problem is not solved, because you clearly haven’t read my post or maybe you’re unable to comprehend it, so why bother replying?
I just came back to check out the game after taking a break about 3 weeks after HoT launched and I’m already sad and disappointed. Correct me if I’m wrong please, but I don’t see a single glider skin that is available to unlock or earn as reward for playing the game. I see they have added bunch of glider skins and all of them are gem store. It is extremely disappointed. Of course I can convert gold and buy it, but it still feels wrong and greedy of anet that they can’t put a single glider skin for reward. Default glider is intentionally incredibly ugly, not even fully dyeable, just so you are “forced” buy a new one. Especially since they put gliding in Tyria.
This is of course just one little thing, but there are a lot of these little things that makes you sad or even angry sometimes.
So, I understand what you’re saying, OP. It is sad that A-net insists to disappoint us again and again over past…. well for quite some while now.

These 24hour characterbound buffs are a new feature and didn’t exist before HOT. You can use it however, if you have the expansion which – again – is highly recommended to have, since otherwise you are left out of Raids, masteries, new subclasses, and other stuff.
Ok, so new kind of buffs, HoT exclusive, what does that tell you? They could made them same way as old buffs, but they didn’t, because they want you to buy xpac. They are still guild exclusive buffs, you can only get them if you’re in guild, but they locked them behind HoT. So yeah…
Also, I own HoT so no need to tell me what “I’m missing”.

And who are you to tell people when and why should they buy xpac? They can buy whatever they want, when they want, if they want.
Exactly, but then they have no right to complain if they are locked out of a feature. That simple.
I didn’t reply to you about whether deserve buffs or not, but because you’re judging people that are too greedy and don’t want to put money for xpac.
But if you want to talk about whether they deserve it, then I will disagree with you again, because buffs are not a feature of HoT, they were in game before HoT. It’s a feature of core game. It’s a bit silly that you’re in guild and you can’t get a buff that YOUR guildmates worked for, The guild worked for buffs, why can’t the guild decide who gets it. If leader or officer thinks someone should not get buff, because they haven’t contribute to it, because they didn’t buy xpac, then let leader deal with it.
I have no problem with sharing buffs with players that didn’t buy xpac in our guild, because they are part of our guild and they are friends and I know they do whatever they can for guild and contribute in other ways and I’m also not gonna judge or tell anyone that they should buy xpac.
It’s just silly that they locked even such a small things (yet important) and especially if we consider other stuff like dungeons nerf for example and you get pretty clear picture that they are really trying their best to force anyone to buy xpac.. Now, there is nothing wrong with promoting your xpac and making it hard to resist, but do so with making xpac worthy and awresome, not by altering core game and nerfing features there and removing them for those who don’t buy xpac. That’s bullkitten and some people don’t want to support that.

I don’t really think it’s “fair” but let’s be honest, if you’re even remotely serious about this game, you have / are planning to get HoT. Like come on, it’s $50. You could pay that much for a game that you play for 25 hours and never pick up again. It’s really not that much to ask, and frankly, if you’re going into an MMO not expecting to buy the expansions, idk what you’re thinking.
Come on it’s $50? Do you know what games you can get for this money? You can get almost any game for this money. And don’t compare how many hours you get from it, that’s not really fair, because MMOs are designed for players to put more hours into them. That’s why they usually make you do things over and over again and they mostly focus on gameplay and not so much on others stuff like story and quests. That’s the MMOs strength, you can put many hours into them because they are designed that way. So again, it’s not a fair comparison, otherwise I could pull out greatest strength of single player games and say “hey, Witcher 3 has amazing story, quests, characters, world, replayability and more which GW2 is lacking.” And you can buy Witcher 3 for about same price. And just for the lulz, since you mentioned hours, let me tell you that I have put 400+ hours in Witcher 3 and I have maybe put only about 100 in GW2 since expansion came out and it doesn’t look very promising that I’ll want to put many more.
It should be quite evident to understand that in MMOs you are left out without the current expansion. But I have sympathy for people who can’t even claim a simple buff.
Generally though, I think it’s fallacious to complain about a feature they can’t use be cause they deny to buy an expansion. The attitude towards the whole media landscape nowadays is quite questionable: shows, movies and games get pirated everyday. Many people don’t understand that it costs a lot of money and passion to create such a product. If you are – even after hundreds/thousands of spent hours – too greedy to pay a free-to-play game with no drawbacks then you deserve to be left out of certain parts and new features.
And who are you to tell people when and why should they buy xpac? They can buy whatever they want, when they want, if they want. “They deny to buy xpac” Well, kitten, don’t you think they have a reason for that? Do you buy games that you don’t like or think it’s not worth the money? Did you buy every DLC or xpac for every game you played? Games cost money to make? Well kitten, yes they do. So we should buy every single game possible, because you know, they cost money to be made? People can decide where they will put their money. Just because it cost kitten tons of money to be made, it doesn’t mean it’s product of good quality. Or it could be good quality but people simply don’t like the changes/decisions made. There are many games that cost a lot to make, but doesn’t mean everyone likes them. It’s just not their cup of tea.
For all the “It’s not a failure just because you don’t like it.” people here: It’s obvious that a word “failed” is used as a a general description for how HoT did, not that every player feels or should feel the same, so stop repeating same things over and over again.
How much truth it is in that, it’s probably the best to judge from how it was received in general, from various sources (forums, reviews, gaming sites etc…) You can even see in game population or if you’re in guild. I saw people logged for expansion and stopped logging in again after two or three weeks. Just like me pretty much.
I agree with OP and with the youtube review there for the most part. Yes, expansion had it’s moments and there were lot of things that were cool, but there are just too many things that were not cool and were disappointing. So do the math and what you get is that in general it’s a failure for certain people.
Look, if the game or dlc or movie is good, you can bet your kitten you will see that all over the internet and you will immediately notice that it’s well accepted in general. And expansion for one of the best MMrpgs shouldn’t be any different. But I don’t see it being accepted that well, do you? Which means that a lot of people were disappointed, which would pretty much mean it failed. Of course that doesn’t mean that no one likes it or that they shouldn’t. If you love it, that’s great, but accept it that many don’t share the same feeling. In my personal opinion it’s just not worth the price, simple as that. But at the end, I would be disappointed even if the price was half less, because I rather pay 50 bucks and have good expansion than pay 25 bucks and have crappy one.
Looks pretty rubbish honestly and idk why would you make a topic about this. Well, actually I know but…
#2: You can’t be placated. If you’ve ever tried to reason with a tantruming child, you’d find it is impossible. And of course, being an online videogame, the majority of complaints come from just that. The playerbase is young, full of hormones, and also full of life’s little frustrations over how unpopular in school they all are. You aren’t looking for a solution, you just want to be angered by something. The reason why the devs won’t subject themselves to your every beck and call is because it would only fan the flames. Calm down, kid!
People are unhappy about something, so they come on forum to tell it, so that means they gotta have some mental issues or childhood trauma and kitten. What pile of bullkitten dude. “They just want to be angered by something”. You sound like some silly psychiatrist who doesn’t know kitten, but assume something.
Instead of making out some crazy theories, what about you think it like that – Not everyone shares your opinion on every matter, so if they are not happy with where the game is going, they want to come to forum and tell why. Of course some people make silly demands or arguments or go over the edge, but a lot of people have serious concerns or opinions/ideas etc. And maybe some of them don’t know how to express themselves in a proper way, but that doesn’t mean that most of them think “hey, today I feel like I ranting, I feel like being angry, so I’m gonna come to forum to complain about stuff, I don’t know what yet, but I’ll think of something, you know because I’m 12 years old after all and all that.”
And the rest of the points you made are pretty much the same things in different words and you just pointed out something we all know in way too many unnecessary words. To sum it up for you “It’s just your opinion, man”.
When I come to forum to express my opinions on things I never expect a dev to come to me and say “hey, you’re kittening right, i’m gonna put that in game right now”.
No, I’m just contributing to discussion and maybe if enough people have similar opinion, maybe something will be done about it.
What’s so wrong about trying shape a game the way community likes? Do you think Anet is the only company that needs to deal with negative feedback? Do you think gaming companies are the only ones that need to deal with negative feedback?
If I feel disapointed by expansion for example, I’m sure gonna come here and tell them why, because I hope they can do better next time and because I invested a lot of time in the game and don’t want it to end like that or I want to keep playing.
And also it’s not so much about communications, I couldn’t care less if there is not a single dev post in this forum as long as they can make good games..
And your minority is showing with sales and population in the game. So since you’re most likely not a developer, how about you don’t assume how many players want this or that and how many have legitimate arguments or what’s minority and all that. Leave that to A-net. They will decide what’s good for them and time will tell if it’s good for their playerbase too. In the meantime we will give our feedback, good or bad and it doesn’t mean we are angry kids or have mental issues, but it means that we like the game and we would like to see it get better.

Better hairstyles, better armors and because you play human male in 90% of other games.
I’m bored, so if you like, you can add me in game and I’ll help with PvE stuff or questions you might have.
There is nothing wrong with the gem store itself, it’s actually welcoming. But it is wrong that all cool stuff ends up in the gem store and that’s pretty much the only way to get those things. For example, expansion only brought us few new armor sets (two or three) and exactly 0 alternative glider skins to work for. If you want new skins, you better open your wallet and throw it into gem store. That’s why many people play gw2 like me (on and off)…
But since you’re new player you still have plenty of stuff to work towards if you like.
Also, what you’re saying about story is not true, like others said already. I have never finished personal story myself and I have 6 lvl 80 characters. Maybe you’re getting confused, because you need to be certain level in order to continue story.I agree with you that leveling is not that much fun, but that’s of course personal opinion and many will disagree and want to kill me now. It depends how much you like world, story and npcs. If you like those a lot you will have no problem exploring and doing story and events.
So I disagree with guy who said leveling is the most fun part and endgame is boring.
I can’t get myself to level characters , because it’s so painfully boring, I just want to get to 80. When you’re 80 you have all the tools available/skills/traits, you can try all the builds you want and learn all about your profession and how to master it. That’s fun. You won’t be doing that when you level up, because you won’t bother with builds, because it’s useless. You will be changing gear often and so it’s no reason to spend a lot of money to gear your character as best as possible. There is also no reason to bother with build if you don’t have all traits and skills available.Hi,
U make a good post. Am I wrong in stating that you can’t level up quickly just by ‘killing things’ ?
True, leveling by just killing things is slow, but so is leveling with story. I dont know exact number but you only get about 20-25 levels worth of XP if you do the whole story. And completing story takes a lot more time than some of the other methods for leveling.
On a sidenote…
The argument that you’d have to open your wallet to buy Gem Store items and this being the only way to do it is invalid. One can do custom gold/gem exchanges.
True, but I’m sure you can’t deny that the amount of cool cosmetic stuff we get in game is very lacking in comparison to what gem store gets.

I don’t mind precursors being grind and all, but I agree with the rest, nerfing all the old content wit obvious intent to make you want to buy HoT. I would also like to add “gemstore bullkitten” to OP. Looks like they have bunch of stuff ready to throw into gemstore every few days to make extra money on top of 50$ xpac. Now I don’t mind gemstore getting stuff, that’s cool, the more the better, but I don’t like when ALL the stuff goes there. Seriously, stuff like exalted glider could totally be a reward for story/achievement or maxing mastery line or something.
Stuff that Actually came with Hot, that you play and get by playing is good and fun, but that’s just not enough for 50 $ I’m afraid. Once you complete that short story and explore maps, unlock your specialization and get those few skins, then what? Start grinding for money to buy stuff from gemstore or just throw your credit card at it? Yeah, that’s fun for sure.
GW2 might have greater amount or percentage of decent people than some other MMOs, but it’s far far from great community.
Actually it has a great community. I wouldn’t confuse everyone who logs in as part of the community though. The community itself is fine. Even the forum community for the most part. There are people who log in just to troll. are they part of the community though? I don’t think so.
The people who have been here and have played long term, or the new people who have fallen in love with Tyria are part of the community and I’d pit them against the community of any triple A MMO, with the possible exception of Lotro which has a very nice community as well. Between Lotro and Guild Wars 2, I wouldn’t want to pick.
But most other MMOs…rubbish communities for the longest term players.
I’d like to think it’s because we have more carebears. Carebears for the win!
Sorry, but I’ll have to disagree. Sometimes you might think someone is friendly at first, just because he said hi to you when he joined your party or maybe he revived you or he made some jokes or whatever, but once you get to know them more, that’s different story then. Like posts above say, put those people into dungeon, pvp, big events etc… and a lot of them will be quite different.
I’ll give you one quick example: I was doing AC (speedrun) and whole party was good, except one guy was kinda lost and he was obviously new with 800 AP. Everyone was annoyed because it was advertized as experienced and speedrun, but I decided to help the guy anyway. He appreciated that i didn’t yell at him like others, so later he add me to friend list and asked me some question about the game. I gave him some tips and told him how to build his guardian and showed him how to run AC. Two days after, he invites me to do AC. I joined and we were half way the dungeon and two people were having problems and died couple of times. So this guy, which I helped 2 days prior that, when he was in the same place as these two guys, lost and confused, this guy now started yelling at other two guys for being bad. It shocked me and I blocked the guy.
I met tons of idiots in my gw2 time. People are kittenes, plain and simple.
GW2 might have greater amount or percentage of decent people than some other MMOs, but it’s far far from great community.
I don’t mind bags, actually I like them, because they take less space, so i can open them when I know I have time to salvage all the stuff that comes out of them-
However I DON’T like getting bags inside the bags, like seriously WTF!? It’s like poor attempt to make you feel like you’re getting more rewards while it’s the same rewar, just extra clicking. Arenanet really looks upon their playerbase like they are all idiots.

I suggest Anet puts rewards/resources for completing activities with your guildmates.
For example: If you run a dungeon with 3 or more guild members, you have chance to earn X amount of Y resources, that would come as a bonus reward at the end of dungeon and would automatically transfer into guild treasury.
Do “casuals” think they own the game or something? If you’re afraid to kill mobs or want to one shot stuff, then idk what to tell you, go play second life or something.
Most of content in new maps is very soloable, and for the rest wait for other players, invite a friend or guldie. Two players together can do pretty much everything.
You can’t just say that all casuals, just because they are “casuals” don’t like hard content. You can be casual and like hard content, so you have no idea how many people actually want this or not.
If I buy a banana, I eat it. My reward for buying the banana was the gift of eating it. If I go to buy another banana, I don’t expect to get a piece of my new banana for free just because I bought a banana before.
If I go to see Avengers 1, I get to see Avengers 1. When Avengers 2 comes out, I don’t expect to see it for free because I saw Avengers 1.
Why do people think video games are somehow different in this regard? I literally do not understand.
What you’re not understanding is the costs that are associated with video games. Millions of dollars go into them, especially MMOs, and this is what has caused them to die. It costs so much money to build the game and release it, and then you need to guarantee x amount of subscribers a month at x amount of dollars per subscription just to survive in the game world. Otherwise, your company barely breaks even (or even goes under) as a result. This is what released the introduction of the F2P model of gaming.
Many games started developing “Lite” versions of games to get players to try them in hopes they would purchase the game, but that only goes so far. So then micro transactions were introduced as a way to generate extra income while also making a completely f2p version of the game after noticing that players were prone to spend more money when they weren’t forced to spend money. The big market for micro transactions are actually cosmetic items – things to make your characters look cooler. It doesn’t matter if it has any benefits to your character, people want them to look amazing. Henceforth why customizing your character and making them how you feel they should look has taken off in recent years.
Guild Wars essentially released an MMO that relied solely on sales of the games (back in GW1 days,) with little micro transactions until they got into Factions and Faction Wars, etc. How they survived, I honestly have no idea. But when GW2 was launched, it followed a similar path except that it now included a plethora of micro transactions. Not only could you spend money to make your character look more awesome, you could buy items that allowed you to gather materials permanently, buy gold essentially, and pretty much pay to win the game if you had enough money.
What started this entire thread was the foundation that Arena Net has completely disregarded its veteran players upon releasing/launching Heart of Thorns. They essentially do nothing to thank us for our patronage, and end up rubbing it in our face so to speak by making the base game free completely and forcing us to pay for an expansion if we want to continue to enjoy new content. If they would have given us a discount for owning the game for a length of time, or at least kept the original game at a certain cost and just released a “lite” version to sample it, that would’ve been different. But they didn’t…
Your example makes sense if you spent a lot of money in the cash shop, but even then that was something that you choose to do and spending that money gave you a reward on its own. I don’t think that an MMO should have a customer loyalty system for many reasons, and this one is one of them. Why should others get a discount because they enjoyed a product longer than someone else?
I have several discounts for various services, because i’m loyal customer for years and they appreciate that and show me with the discount. They understand that making their customers happy is more important than trying to squeeze every single penny out of them. Happy customer is more happy to spend money there, to tell friends about it, to support it, to look for other products from same developers etc…
And that argument that people use “you played a game all this time, that’s your gift, what the hell do you want?”, we can turn that around as well and say, that us playing the game that we paid for is a gift for Anet. If there are no players there is no game and money.
They rewarded you for that time already. You paid a set amount for a product at the time that you purchased. You continued playing (and for some of us, paying) and they in turn released new content (gem store or otherwise). Any content delivered outside of the gem store was free, even though it had an associated man-hour cost with it. You have been receiving these free updates for some time now, as a reward for buying the initial game. It’s hard to compare this to any other service since there is no monetary obligation after the initial purchase except for aesthetic reasons. For the expansion the development costs were exponentially higher (NCSOFT R&D costs were at 42.7 million US for Q1/Q2 2015, although that wasn’t just GW2), and it looks like they will abide by the same philosophy of “buy it once and receive all the updates for free”.
Or, how about I paid for a game + updates? Let’s be honest, does anyone buy a mmo game and thinks they will never update it? Ofc they update it, the game would die if they wouldn’t. They are not doing updates because of their good hearts, they are doing them for game to survive and so they can make money. Tons of games, even single player games get free updates and dlcs, so what’s special here?
If I buy a banana, I eat it. My reward for buying the banana was the gift of eating it. If I go to buy another banana, I don’t expect to get a piece of my new banana for free just because I bought a banana before.

LFG (normal abbrevations:):
- Open/Anyone welcome
Open instance no requirents- l80
Level 80 character required- l80 EXP
Level 80 character and experience with the path/dungeon/event required
This means a couple of dozen runs… not having done it twice. I know ppl who did AC and Arah since launch, having run over 1000+ full runs… they’ll notice anything.
Expect to be kicked for truly stupid mistakes. (popping oozes in p1 AC is a nice filter…)- l80 ZERK
Level 80 character and DPS gear required, Berzerker, in some cases Assassin’s- l80 META
Level 80 character with dungeon meta build required. DPS only.- Speedrun
Just make sure you have dungeon gear and dungeon food and you know what your doing, else ppl leave OR kick, generally the fastest runs, Not always using Meta, just use your head, switch traits and weapons on the run: focus is on maximizing DPS through any means, including +90% health buffs and so on, so support is immensely important, in NO WAY is this just DPS-ing. it is WAY different from l80 zerk meta
- P 1,2,3,4 (P1,P2,P3, P1+3, FW/UP(=TA))
Path requests number is relevant path from top from path selection. Only TA has a different selection. not clicking the correct path will break the party.
- DPS
DPS builds required, no condition builds- Ping (Gear)
Ping Gear, else kick, very subjective, if they do not like your gear you’ll be kicked as well, generally they check: dungeon sigils, runes and stats- Quickrun
Skip All non essentials- Full Run
All paths, generally this does also mean if you do not have appropriate gear and food you’ll be alone after the first path.- Firsttime (1st)
Person requesting has never done the dungeon, expect him to watch the movies and be inexperienced. and unaware of gear and foods- (Kill) ALL or NoSkip
no skipping, just wipe the dungeon clean.- Only ? (race/class/proffesion/and so on)
request for something specific- ?K AP
Minimum AP (ppl stated at prelaunch could have 10-15K without any AP farming, it’s generaslly meant to filter starters, but this is the most useless selection criterium in LFG)- Story
Story mode dungeon —>OPEN (rarely seen with l80 tag) respect ppl watching movies. (in case of fastrun/speedrun pls do not watch movies and expect ppl to rush through,)- Dungeon Tour: often refferring to the “night” run CoF 1,2, SE 1,3, COE Full, AC full, TA FW/Up (and sometimes ARAH (1,)3(,4)), Speedrun gear preferred (sigil night and force), (undead and force for Arah) as well as apropriate foods.)
Things can be combined:
- l80 Fullrun ZERK Meta 3k AP
- Open Only below l80 1st
- Speedrun Ping
In my experience l80 exp is most forgiving as long as you do not watch movies (if you are experience you should have seen ’m already.)
Please respect the requirements stated, NOT doing so could be resulting in a toxic environment not fun for all 5 involved.
That’s all nice and fancy, but most people don’t read LFG or they simply ignore it.
There are plenty of anyone welcome/casual/play how you want type runs. Don’t see one? Start one yourself.
I’m for letting people play how they want without criticism weather that be speed or anyone welcome/casual/play how you want. Unfortunately I see a lot of bashing coming from the anyone welcome/casual/play how you want side aimed at the speed side (ironic).
Just find players that play in the same way that you do and enjoy. Don’t try to shove yourself into a party that doesn’t want your playstyle, that’s what causes problems.
I’ve played a lot of mmo’s and this one is one of the better ones when it comes to having a selection of play styles in parties.
Unfortunately, it is not exactly that simple. Let me give you an example of my last casual dungeon I ran. I joined party with description “casual, non speed run p3” (it was CM btw). All right, I get in. The last to join was thief. ( funny fact: I have never seen CM party without thief). We start doing dungeon and people are stealthing and skipping everything. I didn’t want to complain immediately, but then we got a bit over half dungeon and then I asked “wasn’t this group advertised as non speed run? I get reply: Yeah, but we have thief now, so…”
That was the stupidest thing I heard in a while.Just so you won’t say this is one exception or rare thing, check out this thread I made not that long ago: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/People-are-not-reading-LFG/first#post5110869
So, even tho I have spend a lot of hours in gw2, I have to agree with people who say dungeon experience is terrible for anyone but speedrunners.
Also it’s not just dungeons, it’s also world events. Anyone remember Marrionette event? People there were just horrible, they insulted each other because event failed. I understand some people could do a better job of using their brains, but still, such filthy chat that I’ve seen there…. So, yeah, community is not all that as some make it out to be.I agree they probably should have said something when they decided they were going to do a lot of skipping, but again, the problem is that the type of players were mixed.
As soon as you saw what they were doing, why didn’t you say something if you had a problem instead of waiting for half the run?
They were just skipping stuff because they had the option to. That in itself doesn’t make it a speed run. I still wouldn’t call it a speed run unless they were asking for you to change to a meta build zerk. The title didn’t say not skipping killing everything. Not a big deal overall imo.
If they would play like they did in a real speedrun party, they would get kicked. So no, that was not speedrun. Plus his response clearly indicated that he wanted to go for no skipping first, but since we got thief, that changed, which is kittenbag move and unfair to people who joined because they wanted what description says. One thief is enough to tell you how you will play? Ok.
How long I stayed in dungeon and why doesn’t matter a bit. What matters is there was false advertisement. Would you like me posting speedrun LFG, but then I would start killing everything along my way? How about if that would happen to you regularly?World/living story events do force casuals and non-casuals together and that causes issues. I agree with that part. Even then, at most I would usually just see things like “omg come on it’s not that hard” It was extremely rare when I would see verbal abuse, and when it did happen, people were called out on it. It’s not ALL rainbows and sunshine, but the vast majority of players are great.
This is obviously an opinion, because we all have different experiences, so I can’t say you’re wrong, but in my case, most players were not great.
I joined party with description “casual, non speed run p3” does not mean no skipping to most people. Also sorry for editing my post a bunch, it’s a bad habit of mine to hit reply before I’m done with my reply lol
Did you check the link I provided? You will see there that I used “non skip” descriptions all the time and I got same results.

I am asking, because when I first heard about expansion coming I thought that would be the most logical or safe assumption that ‘s the time we’ll get new weapons. Unfortunately, we now know this is not the case. So, do you think we will ever get new weapons? I would really like to see spear, two handed axe, twinblade, halberd, scythe…
Combat is the most important part of the game for many people, so I’m pretty sure everyone wouldn’t mind some new weapons. If the expansion indeed brings us nice challenging and fun content, then all we need is some new and fresh combat stuff like weapons and skills. For the skills, we’ll get them with specializations that they will be adding more and more in the future. But what about weapons?
Well there goes my wall of text… It looked ok in preview and now there is nothing… Whatever..
I don’t feel like typing all that again so i’ll just say to Tigaseye: I’m sure there are people here that find cat ears or bunny ears sexy. So I don’t see why non human parts can’t be sexy. I personally don’t find sylvari or cat/bunny ears sexy, but I can understand that some people do and I don’t think it’s weird. I know I saw some sexy stuff in my time of gaming and it wasn’t all human always lol.
