Not a fan of axe, but I like what I hear about this spec bringing finally some more power (damage) to mesmers. One thing that comes to mind for F skills (since all illusions will be phantasms it seems) we don’t just shatter them, instead we command them to use different skills. Let’s say F1-Shatter, F2-reflect, F3-buff etc..

Best episode so far in both map and story. Or in other words, the only episode I actually enjoyed in S3.

How would you rank the new maps so far?

All of them are complete garbage and I nominate Bitterfrost to be the worst map in the whole game.
It’s like they tried their best to keep people out of them. If not for berries and kitten, no one would revisit them. Can’t help but get the feeling they are putting these maps together without much effort, just to progress the story and not trying to give them some purpose and reason to visit.
If you’re not farming for berries, who in their right mind would want to revisit bitterfrost and navigate through that farting chill mess, flying and evading griffons while kittenting chill, trolls that completely freezes you for way longer than neccessary, winds that for some reason feel they have to chase and freeze everyone that runs by etc…

I’d rather them not release new map every episode and iinstead when they do release, make it like maps from HoT.

Yes, because the HoT maps weren’t “complete garbage” in terms of their structure, which turned many casual players off (many quit playing GW2 altogether because of the maps’ complex, initially confusing layouts and the need for mastery leveling in order to get everywhere).

So… Just because you don’t know how to dodge a few chill/freeze attacks doesn’t make the map garbage. Revisiting Bitterfrost Frontier for farming while having a bit of a challenge there is fine with me.

Lol. Crying that you can’t complete the whole map in first few days because you don’t have masteries unlocked is ridiculous. Now, after all this time, those who have played the game at least a month since expansion came out, already should have most masteries unlocked. So, maps are still very fun to do (after more than a year), unless you’ve been overdoing it for the whole year and are burned out. Bitterfrost was boring on day one.
“So… Just because you don’t know how to dodge a few chill/freeze attacks doesn’t make the map garbage.” Is this your best shot? Here, let me use your failed logic against you. Just because you or someone else can’t figure out how to navigate through maps, doesn’t mean HoT maps are garbage. See? Easy.

All of you people talking about models and textures as if you know anything… sigh!

Once again, it’s the animation skeleton that is standardized here. The models are not just all copy/paste with “see-through” textures. There’s no hidden “volume”.

Some armors are re-textures. SOME. But not every single armor in the game has a magical underlying “base model”. That’s not how any of this works.

It’s not the easiest option, we get it. But they couldn’t even bother to make something unique for legendary armor? Or when HoT came out with those few armor sets? We are getting armor sets so rarely (due to almost everything new being outfit now), they could at least put some real effort in it and listen to fans for once and use that pretty rare occasion when they decide to make armor to make something else rather than a freaking coat.

Why the hell do you care. I don’t play ranger and I couldn’t care less. I’m actually happy for them. Why do you care in what way another player reaches his high numbers? You can freely play whatever class you want and find fun. Why do you have issues with other players dealing damage?

You don’t raid do you? Rangers having good damage is not the problem. The problem is they are far above the rest, while also being far easier to play. This skill contributes so much to the damage that tuning it down a bit doesn’t hurt. At the moment they are pushing other condi classes away, and that is a problem.

You say you can freely play what you want, well you can’t in raids, unless ofcourse the other 9 people don’t mind having kitteneless guy around.

I’d like to see this skill nerfed, but what I rather see is other condi builds being brought to the same point.

Yes, I keep forgeting that we should nerf things because 5% of the playerbase think 2% of the game is ruined because of certain skill/build.

I’d imagine “heroes” would be a bit more mature and have some more brain cells than some random crybaby emo.

“I have known many heroes and some were such oafs that one would feed them at the back door if their deeds did not claim a place at the table.” — Star, Empress of the 20 Universes, to the hero Oscar Gordon in Robert A. Heinlein’s Glory Road.

My interest is more in science fiction than fantasy, but such examples of “heroic fantasy” as I can think of (e.g. Glory Road or Piers Anthony’s A Spell for Chameleon or even Harry Potter) usually seem to feature heroes starting out in humble circumstances, often marginalized by their societies, before discovering their true destiny. They were often used as doormats by those around them initially. That’s always seemed like a trope of the genre to me.

Granted, the protagonists of these stories themselves are not generally oafs (though Harry Potter did act out a bit when he got into his teens), but Braham is hardly the protagonist of the GW2 story. Feed him at the back door if you must.

Edit: Even King Arthur started out as a doormat nicknamed “Wart”. Is there anything that has a better claim to being “heroic fantasy” than that?

Being a doormat is not the same as being someone who is making decisions that 14 years old self destructive kid would.

The “hero” is not always the shining star everyone respects and listens to. Sometimes in order for a character to grow, mistakes have to be made.

I absolutely agree.

Also, Braham is young, stubborn, erratic, volatile. Typical for some troubled 18-25 year olds with mother issues/complex. Why do people have such a problem for a character how he is?

Because most of 20 years old teens are kittening ridiculous in this age of time.
Barely a difference between 15 years old and 22 for example. They want to be adults when they want to enjoy themselves, but when there are serious matters that requires responsibility then all of sudden they don’t want to be adults anymore and are acting like kids.
I’d imagine “heroes” would be a bit more mature and have some more brain cells than some random crybaby emo.

Would be nice to see it changed in PvE. Unfortunately this might lie on the wrong side of the “We want skills to function the same, just with different modifiers/CDs/dmg in different game modes when splitting skills” line. I hope it doesn’t, but it might. Like you said, its not like we can’t already negate the green circles with distortion share.

We all know that what they said about wanting skills to function the same was just a poor excuse. If AN REALLY thinks this would confuse players, then they better start removing combo fields, defiance bar, CC, meta events, mesmers, engineers etc…. because these are hella complicated things, could probably melt down brains of many.

I happen to enjoy all of those aspects of the game

The only things that I think needs to be explained better are breakbars and CC (there are so many people that don’t seem to know what they are, which is strange to me because its pretty straightforward. But I did spend a lot of time reading the wiki when I started so that might be why I think so), and combo fields.

Combo fields are straightforward, and actually quite easy to understand. But with no need to know how to use them anymore unless you are a speedrunner or extra competitive in PvP/WvW I find that a lot of people just don’t bother. And the little tooltip you get at level 30(?) that just says “Yay, you can do the combo fields with other players now” doesn’t even try to explain it.

I don’t know man, if you gave random group of casual players two examples:
1) Combo fields and how they work
2) Skill X farts apples in pve, but in pvp it farts oranges.

I think most people would still choose combo fields to be a bit more confusing.
I mean, getting confused by second example would be like being confused because you can glide in open world, but you can’t glide in dungeons. Sure, first time you’ll be like “what, really?” but then it should be clear, nothing to be confused about.
Now combo fields… there are quite a few factors to consider here. What each field will do, what each finisher will do, who can trigger it (only field provider or whole party), how does it stack over other boons, is there limited amount of fields that can be deployed, do they overlap, do they cancel each other, etc… Those are all question new players could be asking themselve.

Of course I don’t want them to go away, I was just poking fun at AN about their silly statement, that people could get confused by skills acting differently in pve and pvp.

Characters, NPCs, behaving in a manner that evokes an emotional reaction from player and player character, in character, is not bad storytelling. Characters behaving in a manner that is disliked, or even unlikable, is not bad storytelling. Hated and hateable characters can be much better components of a good story than those with whom we always agree, get along with, or even love.

What is bad storytelling is characters, even the PC, not being able to, allowed to, respond appropriately to the behavior.

That’s like saying No man’s sky is a good game, because a lot of people got emotional and dislike/hate it. You are trying too hard, I think.

Nothing at all like your analogy. Note that I referenced in character reaction to in character elements. All I am saying is that an unlikable character is not necessarily bad storytelling. A character that we are meant to dislike can be part of good storytelling. I dont think that is what is happening here. As Ive said before, including in the post you quoted (did you read it in its entirety?), I think that this situation is an example of poor writing.

Yeah, agree. Maybe I misunderstood you (apologies), because your point was quite “obvious”. We all know bad guys can be charming, fun, interesting and whatnot while we hate them at the same time.
So in this case, it seems they made Braham act like that for no good reason, just for the sake of drama. His behaviour absolutely makes no sense to me. He is free to grieve the death of his mother, but the way he reacts… Acting like commander and company weren’t affected by her death (I’d say even more so than he was), like they haven’t avenged her, like it was commander’s fault she died (she literally died after we were reunited), being angry selfish emo because he gets no glory, so he will recklesly charge ahead and put people in danger, just because he can’t wait to save “other mothers” and because he want to kill dragon by himself (acting as like commander solo’d two dragons)… too much cringe and edginess. If the story doesn’t get better fast, i will be very disappointed.

Is it truly that difficult to farm berries, though? I’ve farmed berries in Bitterfrost on mesmer, guard, thief, and ranger. Yes, the chill can be annoying, but it isn’t a stopping point. Either avoid the mobs as best you can, harvest, and run off to the next set of berry bushes, or kill the mobs as you go and harvest after they’re dead.

And you don’t need to “form a group” to gather here. There are almost always enough players running around farming berries at any given time that you can tag along with one of them and help each other out as you spend the 10 minutes it requires to farm most of the berries in the western part of the map.

Then again, if you’re running around with a character equipped in blues and greens or a non-80 character, I suppose you’re gonna have a bad time.

You’re missing the point. People only mention berries because let’s face it, that’s pretty much the only thing to “do” in this map, beside map exploration. Also, I find this logic amusing “It’s doable, so no need to complain”. People keep repeating same things. Do you guys even read posts? It’s silly to get into a discussion if it’s one sided. It’s not about dying or being unable to farm berries. It’s about how annoying map in general. I’m pretty sure majority of people won’t be in a hurry to visit this map again anytime soon, once they are done with story/berries. It’s a shame resources and development time go for things that soon turn into desert.
I’m not saying no to a challenge, I welcome it gladly. But mobs farting CC on repeat while they have broken AI, messed up aggro, insane spawns and density it’s just silly and poor, lazy design.

The general gist seems to be you want to farm the berries without all those mobs slowing and killing you?
My answer to that is simple, just kill the mobs then harvest the berries.
Also stop soloing everything if you can’t solo, run with other people on the map or with a guild or something.
tl;dr – dead mobs can’t annoy you.

Good job on making your own special conclusion to your liking so you can “prove” you point.

It’s not about dying. People immediately asume you die a lot if you complain about mobs. It’s about how annoying they are. Density wouldn’t be so bad if at least they wouldn’t spamm CC all the time. Respawn rates are just a freaking joke. I come to pick up some berries, so I kill the mobs guarding it, but immediately new ones spawn, Fine, I kill it, immediately new one spawns. It’s like they are trolling you, it’s like they are hiding and watching when you’ll appear, start picking and then they jump you, not to kill you, but to annoy you. Yes, I can run away, but I like to kill them, I have no problem with that, it feels more… well lets go with immersive. But when they keep respawning it just gets silly and annoying. If you stop and fight you’ll have so much chill on you, you can go make coffee before it wears down. If you use cond remove you’ll get chilled immediately after. And don’t forget about silly aggro and mob AI is seriously broken here.
It really feels like AN made bitterfrost just for berries, run and gather, run and gather. I can’t imagine why anyone would do anything else in this map, it’s not fun no matter how much you like killing stuff.
Is that really the best you can come up for the challenge?

One of the worst maps in the whole game. It looks great, but that’s the only positive thing about it. Navigation is pretty bad, only two waypoints, while map is filled with annoying mobs. All mobs are the same, farting chill non stop. If you stop to fight mobs you’ll end up with 10s of chill easily. Aggro is terrible. Mobs AI is terrible. Majority of attacks from mobs are CC on repeat. Berries are guarded more than any prison. Events are all the same. Map doesn’t provide anything but those berries. Once people get them, they’ll never come back to this map.

Story was weak. I really liked first part with Aurene, the rest was boring and the end just total fail with Braham turning into emo. I’m not even gonna go into details because I have already done that in other topics.

That’s why it’s hard for me to enjoy story in gw2, because there is pretty much no developing your character the way you like. I know my commander wouldn’t stand for those petty insults from Braham. I would knock him down and explain few things to him. I didn’t feel like commander at all sucking up all that nonsense from that angry emo kid. Who would respect such commander? No wonder everyone is doing what they feel like. You know those personalities you can choose from when you create your character (ferocity, charm, dignity)? What the hell is that for? Completely useless. Would be cool if I would actually get something from that, like extra optional dialogue, depending on personality chosen.
I know they can’t afford to have all sorts of different options since it’s living world and not single player game, but what we have atm is not satisfying to me. I want to do story because it gives a feeling you’re actually part of something, not just aimlessly wandering around the world killing stuff, but god kitten these characters are so boring and bad :/
I get the feeling that they are making drama just for the sake of having drama, which then leads to characters doing stupid things for absolute idiotic reasons.

ferocity, charm, dignity got binned a long time ago. The only thing they do how, is maybe change a few lines of dialog depending on what you had chosen in the PS. But nothing after that. This is not a single player game where you control the story, like Dragon Age or Mass Effect. So the story will never really reflect what you would like your PC to do. I personally would have thrown Phlunt of a cliff, or enjoy feeding him to the mordim. But the writers at ANet weave the story, and we are trying to get the world to work together to kill the dragons. Killing people who may be useful down the line is not a good way to go about uniting the known world against the dragons.

Maybe we could get Jormag a job in a call centre, and Braham could be that customer, we all know the one, then while he’s distracted by Braham complaining and crying, we could kill him.while he’s not paying attention. Then pick up the phone and say “yes Braham, only I am allowed to kill the dragons.”

Like I said, that’s why I never enjoyed story, at least not living story. Personal story was a lot better. For example playing personal story with charr was completly different than with human. My warband was cool, they were loyal and respected me and my charr was kitten, didn’t take kitten from anyone, but at the same time he was respectful and loyal to those that deserve it. In living story, no matter what race you play, no matter what background you have, no matter what choices you picked in your PS, you’re are just a bad commander who fails to keep your members in check allowing emo kid to insult you. All of sudden my character is developing in direction I dislike and don’t feel it make sense for him and I have no control over it.

All I read is a bunch of whining kids, ranting because Braham did something greater than anything they’ve ever done (cracked the Jormag tooth all you whining little kids have tried to do for all this time). So now they don’t like him because he can think for himself, take his own decisions, while you can’t do neither of them because you’re only capable of doing what the writers allow you to do.

Thinking by himself and making his own decision? Hahaha, being stuborn emo kid is barely a decision, let alone a good one.
You obviously haven’t played a game at all if you think he did something greater than all others and can make proper decisions. Being an angry kid that can’t even think properly, ignoring all his friends and acting like he is the only one hurt by death of his mother is not a great thing, I’m sorry. Whatever stupid reasons you guys have to defend braham like “grief doesn’t have to make sense” and “different cultures have different ways of grieving” doesn’t make sense. So, if someone from other religion or culture than your own decide to go on killing spree because he lost his mother and now that’s his way of dealing with grief, you would defend that person? I don’t care what culture, everyone should know what’s right and what’s wrong. Everyone should know killing innocents is wrong for example. Everyone also should understand that commander and others lost friends and loved ones too. Culture doesn’t have anything to do with this. Your brain does. Braham being a norn doesn’t matter and doesn’t excuse him from being a freaking idiot. He has brain, right? He can think on his own, right? He is capable of making decisions, right? So, he should make better decisions and not be an angry, selfish, ignorant emo that refuses to listen and think about what his acts will bring to others.

What about dungeon cutscenes? Gotta be the biggest “did nobody test this before implementing it” parts of the game. Sitting there for about a minute each time, waiting for one guy to finish watching a slow, badly written, badly voiced cutscene of some simplistic dialogue every single time you do a run…it’s incredible.

The only option is to not skip them, and cringe yourself inside out in the process…or to wait at every interval for that one guy.

Some of us care.

Yes, and I totally disagree with the “badly” being thrown about like that. Pretty lame if you ask me.

The cutscenes feel like i’m watching a cartoon. That’s how bad the writing is. Mix that with voice acting that’s for the most part awful, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster.
Even if the cutscenes were wonderful, why would i want them on every run?

The only thing worse than waiting around for that one guy to finish watching a cutscene before you can proceed is having to wait for that one guy before you can LEAVE, because he’s watching the lengthy end-of-dungeon cutscene, and the reward won’t pop till he’s done.

Let’s see your cutscenes, hear your voice acting, so we can critically dissect them…

Did you really use one of the most overused and stupid, nonsense argument?
It’s not his job to do better, he is not developer selling this game. Hey, next time when you come to me into hospital, instead of properly taking care of your wound, I’ll just slap whatever I find on it and say “hey, let’s see you do better”. What do you say?

1. Very bored of leveling new characters. I’d like to have many characters of same class for different builds and for different races, but I can’t bother myself with leveling them, it’s so boring and then you have to explore the world again… I’d like some option for those that for example already leveled 3 characters to 80 to have some a lot faster method of leving (as an option).

2. No build templates. Seriously, such a highly requested feature for a long time now and still not in the game…

3. HoT mobs are not fun to fight. Too much CC and most of the mobs have one or two attacks which they spam constantly. Boring any annoying.

4. Not a fan of fractals. I would like more dungeons.

5. A lot of weapons and skills feel weak and are barely used or never used.

6. CC on players way too long. It feels forever to get back up without stun breaker. Soo boring and frustrating to watch.

7. Grind and poor rewards. For example, it bothers me when I am lucky once a year to drop BL key and it feels so good and special, omg, look what I got, then you open the chest and you get absolute crap out of it.

8. Poor communication from devs. I recently came back from a few months break and I have no idea if I should even bother to keep playing, because I don’t know what’s next to come and if it’s worth it to me.

9. Devs refuse to seperate PvE from PvP.

Dear anet, why have rifle ingame?

Agree, rifles sucks. Damage is inferior to melee weapons and considering it’s single target (aside from 3rd skill on warrior) only it’s even worse. It certainly can’t compete with ranger LB for example, probably not even with dragonhunter LB.

Of course damage is inferior to melee weapons… the trade off for some damage is you’re attacking from range.

Also, the burst pierces, the primal burst explodes, and the purpose of the rifle isn’t solely doing tons of damage… you also get interrupts, fast adrenaline gain, and a free evade. Take the time to learn how to use it.

Or you can take your time to learn how to melee, so you don’t have to use inferior weapons. See, how that works? All I was saying is that it’s inferior weapon and there is little point in using it. I wanted to try warr with rifle, just for fun, but it’s not fun at all. Considering it’s single target weapon for the most part, it could have a bit more damage. It could be on par with ranger LB at least, which is a good weapon and actually has traits tying to it, unlike warr rifle with only one trait (for cooldown). I don’t remember about engineer’s rifle and traits, but rifle itself is also not appealing at all.
Just because I don’t like the weapons doesn’t mean I don’t know how to use it.
OP probably wishes he could use rifle as main weapon (as do I), but unfortunately it’s a pretty bad weaon to have for your first choice, no amtter how hard you’re trying to say otherwise. It’s only usefull for when you really have to go range, which is not often.

You run forward and attack your opponent who dies 10 seconds later.
I shoot a similar opponent while running forward so the opponent is at 70% health and suffering applied conditions and then melee kill the opponent 8 seconds later.
Who is using inferior weapons?

No, I rush or Bull charge the target, hitting them, doing damage and stunning them, then slicing them open in few seconds and everyone that stands close. And since I spend most time in melee, I prefer having another melee weapon for secondary, because it provides me with more useful skills for the fight. If I would have rifle for swap instead, that would be pretty useless, aside from stun maybe, but that’s not worth the swap CD. So, yes, you’re using inferior weapons. Look, I know you enjoy rifle and there is nothing wrong with that, but don’t try to make it sound like it’s superior lol. If it had at least two good aoe skills, so you could bomb whole group of enemies before you approach them melee, then it could be ok, but atm it’s pretty crap. Using rifle atm is purely for fun factor, but I personally can’t find it fun if it’s so weak and doesn’t provide any special utility which I couldn’t get from other, better weapons.

And those that do wish to play the story? Should they be blocked too?

Why would the Devs lie about it? Why would anyone play a game they feel the Devs lie about?

Woah chill there dude. Who said they would have to lie about it? How hard it is to add description to race change contract that say “upon use your story will be reset and you will lose X and Y”.

Change Race

It’s too difficult. Changing race would have to change story and any cultural outfits you have. And also, considering the price of such a thing in gems of a total makeover kit + name change contract (in case you want to keep name lore-friendly) + extra for changing actual race, it’d probably end up cheaper just to buy a new character slot.

Reset story, problem solved. I’m sure if someone really wants to change their race, reseting their story would be least of their worries. It’s simple, they just need to put in description “Warning, your story will be reset and you’ll have to do it again. You will also lose x and y items”. Every player can decide if it’s worth it for them, before they buy. Cultural armor? We have skins in wardrobe. Why would we lose cultural armor just because we would change race? We bought that armor with gold that we earned by playing the game, we didn’t earn cultural armor by doing story of certain race. You can buy charrs’ cultural armor when you play as human if you want.

They said resetting the story is a big deal that leads to multiple bugs, so it’s not something they’ll lightly do. Source
Q: Why can’t I reset my character’s Personal Story progress?
A: The Personal Story was not designed to be replayable. Attempting to adjust a character’s story progress introduces a wide variety of bugs across various content and game systems. We investigated different solutions for partial and full story resets. In all cases, the changes led to unpredictable results in many different content types, including permanent blocking of story progress.

That’s a shame.

Before another dozen people say exactly same thing I’ll say I don’t see why they couldn’t do it. Reset personal story and problem solved. I’m sure if someone really wants to change the race, they wouldn’t mind doing personal story again. Now, don’t start with “it’s not immersive” nonsense, because many many things are not immersive in game and also why do you care how other players play their game? If I for example change my race and my story resets, how will that affect you? If I don’t care about my character being in “non immersive” way, why would you?
I’m pretty sure Anet could do it if they wanted, they just don’t want it, that’s the problem. Same thing as with separating PvE from PvP.

Another Patch of more PvP nerfs to PvE

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: serialkicker.5274

serialkicker.5274

It’s not about new players beeing mentally deicient (why that offense?), it’s about making a system much more complex for people who play multiple classes and multiple modes. Alot of people here are just playing one class and only PvE. They don’t see this issue and I just wanted to point it out.

In this case and with this logic, they shouldn’t be doing so many balancing patches all the time, because that would confuse new players. One day this skill does X amount of damage, next day it does Y amount of damage. One day this skill has X amount of CD, next day different. One day, this skill gives you this buff, other day…. You get my point..

Also, you said most players only play PvE and they don’t see this issue. I play only PvE and I see issue. And others see issues as well, that’s pretty much what topic is about. You can clearly see when your skills or build was nerfed and is not acting the same as it was days ago for example. So, you check patch notes and see bunch of stuff was nerfed. Then you ask yourself why? Why would that need a nerf? And then after few seconds of research you come to conclusion it’s because of PvP.

Another Patch of more PvP nerfs to PvE

Splitting skills for PvP and PvE seems to be fine for most of you. It may not be an issue if you only play PvE. It also may not be an issue if you only play PvP.

It is indeed an issue if you play PvE and PvP and both with multiple classes. The required skill knowledge increases drastically and ends up frustrating.

Also remember how confusing and unclear this will be for new players.

Don’t think in that limited mind please: just form your point of only playing one mode.

Every class got big nerfs and big buffs already. Get over it and adjust your build.

Wow, are you serious with this? Please tell me this was a very bad joke. How low you and Arenanet thinks of the playerbase? Do you think whole playerbase consist of illiteral idiots? This is just straight up insult if you ask me.
There are many many many and again many more stuff that would confuse new players more than seperating PvE from PvP. And if veteran players can’t take a few hours to adapt and learn how skills work in different environment, then i’m sorry, but in that case they should probably return to some mindless fps game.
