And yay, targeting keeps causing trouble… I can’t even count how many times it selects a enemy around 10 feet away while another is just by my side ready to attack me… or when I try to select a minor minion at my throat but the game insist to select the big boss a bit away (yup, it just happened at Tequatl where it targeted the boss when I tried to select a krait just at my side)

Just lvl up through eotm. Its way better atm.

That’s why EOTM experience pinata train is always running. Choo choo. Nobody wants to level the usual way anymore.

That’s the point, veterans shouldn’t need to use workarounds to keep playing just because a badly implemented “tutorial” for new players. For sure it’s easy to use tomes and stuff to skip it.. but where is the fun on that? It should be about fun, not a boring and needed chore.

I’m still waiting for them to decide that there is no reason why they can’t turn all my Tonics back into Town Clothes exactly like before. They can keep Outfits. But why do all my old Town Clothes need to be sitting in my Bank gathering dust in Tonic form? Almost NONE of them transitioned into Outfits, so what’s the deal? Why can’t I have my old non-combat clothing back? Not only would we forgive ANet, but I’m sure they would be praised by many. And I personally would start using the Gem Store again.

I also fail to understand why Town Clothes couldn’t be made into outfits.. just because town clothes weren’t supposed to have weapons skill available? Well, don’t they have it now? I still don’t see the reason for making it like tonics, it’s just occupying space in inventory/bank when they could easily fit the outfits part in the wardrobe system.

Anyway, let’s not change the subject. Wardrobe stuff wasn’t part of NPE and then not the subject of this thread.

One more thing to quote..

Remember it’s a human being playing the game, not a 3 year old child.

Just let’s put it like a “smart and experienced” human being… xD

On your second character you will see them. Same with skill points.

Stop using second character as argument. As I said before it’s a New Players Experience, first character, first moments in the game, first impression of the whole. When someone gets to the point of making a second char they aren’t a new player anymore. Let’s focus on how it looks for the New, how it looks at the very first time. Also remember, those who can be new to GW2 may not be new to games or MMOs in general, also they can have a very reasonable IQ :P

At first I didn’t get what you meant with the Improvements part, it seemed as you were talking about improvements brought by the new system but then I saw you were suggesting improvements, hehe. And again yes, the initiative behind it was good but the way as it was implemented was bad.

I liked your idea for Beginning Personal Story Area, it’s something like a few has already suggested like a “tutorial instance”. I feel it would be a lot better to give the player the chance to learn the mechanics freely within a instance than being pushed to learn it through 15 or even 80 levels. Rushing doesn’t help with learning and not everyone are equal, each one has their own pace.

About your suggestion about a re-playable Personal Story, when Story Journal came out it already had been announced that’s a planned feature but without an ETA for now.

Our current “reward box” pops up frequently mid combat. In the middle of a heated battle with 3 evils, I get a “reward box” that blocks my view of the battle. Another immersion breaking problem.

I really liked the vanilla GW2 where the interface of a reward chest—a beautiful chest at that—floats at the right side of the screen, waiting if the player is busy, enticing the players eye. Whenever that chest comes up on the side, it gave me a feeling I in a beautiful world where riches abound. It made me smile.

Yeah I can’t recall as it is with leveling rewards but it’s annoying with a few events and Living Story. It would be nice if all them would popup as that non-intruding chest allowing us to pick it up whenever we aren’t busy or what not.

Including mega-server, when people are having to taxi, when in the middle of wandering around we get a pop up telling us an option to move to another instance.

Not to mention that the closing map message can’t be dragged around and it blocks part of the chat panel depending on your screen. I have been needing to resize chat panel several times because that popup stay over chat tabs, not allowing me to switch tabs.

I don’t honestly remember if previous to the NPE there was a functioning way of informing players that dodging was possible. If there wasn’t, then the current dodge tutorial is the only thing that came out as good.

Yes, from what I recall there wasn’t any mechanism to inform players about dodge, we had only the tooltip over that endurance bar and the keybind options (this last doesn’t teach about it actually). At least the dodging tutorial was one of the very few good aspects of the new system.

If people are being overwhelmed by the mechanics, you try to inform them better, not screw over parts of the game that were just fine and then top it with a compass and a dodging tutorial.

This.

(Seriously, they think we don’t know how to use dodge?)

Well, at times it feels like some ppl doesn’t know, given how many players die several times in events with huge AoE effects clearly warning them to dodge. But well, it can be due several reasons too.. what we could say…

The thing is, we are talking about New Players Experiencefirst character, first impression, very first moments in the game, first experience in the game… second, third or whatever character shouldn’t matter. You don’t start a game already planning what to do with your Nth character. Stop using second char gets better as argument.

Also, it’s called New Players Experience, again, New Players… Veteran players shouldn’t be forced to go through a tutorial whenever a new character is created. Alts shouldn’t matter for this subject. People doesn’t go through a whole learning process again every time they have to drive a new car, they learn the basics just once and then just get adapted to any difference or new info along the way.

Yes, it’s frustrating to see my main getting a “you haven’t enough experience” from a NPC after been playing it for more than 2 years and no, I wouldn’t waste my time through the whole leveling process again just to get rid of that. Stop using alts as argument. Alts are the end of leveling process, an additional. NPE should be only about the very first character.

I really wish there was some way to let me be treated as an experienced player though the account itself is new.

THIS is the point. Teaching new players is always good and a needed thing, but with NPE all players are treated equal, not taking in account how smart and/or experienced the players can be.

Some of the NPE does disappear on the second character you level. And leveling through levels 1-15 is much faster than it used to be.

Yes but, from viewpoint of a really new but experienced player… if someone already feel frustrated due being treated like a child just at the first character, do you think they would be patient and persistent at the point of creating a second one just to see if things would change, or would they give it up before that? I believe the last…

Another thing… what’s the point of it being faster? Leveling wasn’t supposed to be an enjoyable experience instead a boring tutorial that you feel wanting to rush in order to finish it asap? Again, that’s it, leveling has became more like a boring chore than a enjoyable playtime.. I never bothered about hitting lvl 30 in the fastest time possible, I liked exploring things and mechanics at my own pace.

However, a thing I tend to agree with…

Calling for people to be fired when you don’t know anything about the internal workings of a company isn’t just irresponsible. It’s unwise.

Mistakes happens at times and firing may not the best solution yes. Sometimes replacing the one or those who did the mistake can cost more than the damage caused by the mistake.

The trait changes aren’t being ignored by Anet. They’ll be changed completely with Heart of Thorns.

Hmm, if so the question is: will it be changed within the expansion or will be changed when the expansion comes out? If the first, what about those who won’t get the expansion, will they be left out of the changes? If so it won’t sound fair huh. Sorry if I misunderstood something.

I’m sure it will be changed for everyone. This is the way it was worded. Anet looked for a way forward that meshed with stated ideals and they’ll modify the rest of the game to match those ideals.

That’s what I mean with it being changed when the expansion comes out. In this case, it would be good. Let’s hope that’s how it will be then.

I also noticed that there no longer is a “how many vistas, WP’s SP, etc” completed on the world map. When I hit for the map to come up .. that is missing. When I mouse over a name of an area, it no longer has a mouse popup saying how much of the area has been completed. I found this VERY useful. When did this disappear?

It’s one of the “features” related to NPE. You aren’t supposed to see your progress for world completion before you reach certain level. Knowing how many vistas, waypoints, etc you have found, or even wth is a skill point is too overwhelming for new players… [sarcasm self-test completed] :P

I would not want to see any kind of forced tutorial even with the first character.
Optional is the key word. Completely avoidable.

Well, with NPE now the whole leveling process feels like a forced tutorial where you can do things only when the game “thinks” you are able to do.

I disagree with this. The amount of people who are brand new to the game and who have no idea, would see this locked stuff as normal and not think twice about it.

That’s almost what I meant. What I meant was if people would get frustrated by things being locked they would get frustrated even so, either knowing when it will unlock later or not. And I said that knowing it would unlock at some point later doesn’t make it look like “not-locked”, it will always look “locked”. Just doesn’t make sense to say “the door isn’t locked because it will unlock later”, that was what I meant.

Also yes, there are several things which were locked before and people didn’t complain. In fact, I never did neither do bother about elite, utility and other skills being locked. They DO make sense regarding learning process. But why locking out/hiding things like vistas, story/map progression and others based on level. These don’t make sense and are what made me dislike it.

Saying something is locked, doesn’t make it locked. It’s the same with skill points. They’re only locked on the first character you level through the NPE. On each subsequent character they’re not locked.

Sure, it’s inconvenient to have to know stuff to play the game. But saying stuff is locked when it’s not isn’t great either.

Well, for the time you are leveling that first character the things are YES locked, so YES they are locked, period. In real life you don’t face a gate or door locked and say “no, it’s not locked because it will be unlocked later”, you see it locked and it’s really locked, period. And the duration of leveling a first char is very enough to get someone frustrated and quit even before they would even have the “chance” to see it unlocked with a new char.

Please give players the downed state right from the start. Newer players need it more.

Yes, this is my biggest issue.
It makes no sense. The downed state is an absolutely crucial concept to GW2, and should be explained as very much the very first thing when you come into the game. Keeping it from someone is exactly the opposite you need to do.

I didn’t follow it at that time but I found an article about what was announced before launch, if I’m not wrong downed state was highlighted as one of the differentials of GW2 over other MMOs or even GW1 itself, so wth removing it from new players? Seriously, day after day I understand less what logic people has been using in their softwares/games/etc… -_-

Silly questions and probably you know, but worth to ask… how are you trying to take it, what key are you using? Does a message appear in chat when you press that key? The game should show like “Screenshoot saved at..” in chat. If so, is the folder showed there the same one you looked into?

I know these questions may be obvious and stupid, but just an attempt of troubleshooting.

A last thing (and maybe advanced for a few): make sure the folder where it stores the screenshoots isn’t set to read-only and has the proper permissions. It shouldn’t be an issue since it’s stored into your personal folder, but who knows.

Where are you looking for your minis? Inventory or that materials storage? Minis are now part of collections and are shown in the Wardrobe. But before it happens you have to unlock the mini manually. If in your inventory: right click it > Add to wardrobe (collections or something like), if in your materials listing you do the same, but the slot where it was will vanish after you do so and the whole category will be removed once all your mins are taken from there.

Error code: 7:11:3:191:101

I was teleporting from Sparkfly Fen to Strait of Devastation, while loading the map of Straits of Devastation, the game kept toggling between loading Sparkfly fen and loading Straits of devastation, finally it loaded Straits of Devastation, but when I tried to walk toward the way point I got disconnected, I tried logging in many times after that but I couldn’t last more than a minute before disconnecting.

Now my map completion progress is resetted to Zero, at logging screen it says I am in Sparkfly Fen, currently I can’t access my character or leave this map.

Given that getting stuck as “in-combat” can happen a lot with players, I’m not surprised the same could happen to NPCs. With players, however, dying or killing more mobs sometimes fix it… a NPC wouldn’t “think” about doing this “workaround” though.

Just want to report a tidbit re:NPE on a new player’s comment on map channel that I happen to see. He said he’s a new player, and lamented something like: “How do I get rid of this arrow? It’s the most awful xxxx telling me where to go every second.” [sip]

Well, I think it’s one thing they did right at least. That arrow can be useful (it helps to find events with now having these very map specific dailies) and you have the option to turn it off if you don’t like it. It can be set as you like.

“Oh annoyed by an arrow telling you where to go? Well, turn it off completely or tweak it to point to less things.” But meanwhile… “Oh annoyed by not being able to do story whenever you like? Sorry, you aren’t supposed to do it as we think you will get too overwhelmed and there’s nothing you can do about it.” -_-

Not sure if this is part of NPE but I really like the new log-off-box graphic, which appeared shortly after NPE.

To me the rocky texture and charcoal color remind me of a fantasy world of danger in that the color can easily be that of a tome stone. It also reminds me of dignity needed to conquer evil foes, etc. etc. Just the perfect mood-setting piece to get me to want to log back in to experience the world of GW2 again.

Good point, that new design looks nice and was a good overhaul. It looks better and harder to miss. This is how you make things more user friendly! By the way, it didn’t come with NPE but a few patches later I think (at the same time, the party UI and other parts of UI got a new and more user friendly design too).
