It may be somewhat related to the guild chat issues that others are having. When you go offline or your status change somehow all texts in guild chat vanishes [old issue]. Maybe for you it’s like it thinks you are going offline and online when you do that actions.

Ping bugged?

From what I learned recently, it may be due the size of the packet. The game seems to use packets with 10240 bytes of data while the default for ping in console is 32 bytes. Try to change it and see if both get close (on Windows 7 [maybe other versions too] it’s the parameter -l [e.g. ping <ip here> -l 10240]).

WvW Citadel

I’m 100% sure this bug started recently, like a couple of days ago (at least for me) , because 1 week and a half ago, when i went there for map completion, the citadel was fine.
I also noticed the same bug at the small buildings in the red spawn of the green borderland.

You mean the colored things on walls? It was reported recently, just the post before yours.

shadow.6174

Yeah, in fact I noted that after I made that post. What I meant isn’t that only one would progress, both could progress their storyline but why both have to be put into the “same” storyline? That’s what I don’t get. E.g: both players do the instance and then it asks if one would accept the progress, why not when accepting it it keeps the players in their own storyline while progressing that step? If both wanna do the next step together once can just invite the other again. That’s what I mean.

Story: Order Swaped Automatically

The reason is to allow people to continue to working on the personal story together without forcing repeats. People still have the option of the alternative if they don’t accept the progress. The only problem with the current approach is that there isn’t enough in game information regarding what will happen when you accept progress.

Exactly, it lacks info and the info provided can be misleading. Even so I still can’t see the purpose. If people want to keep doing it together they can always be invited to do the same instance each time, no reason to make things confused by messing with their storyline. No reason to know what’s the next step in “their” storyline when out of the instance. Wanna do it together? Follow them (party is there for that) and waits until they start the instance, simply that.

If both storyline were exactly the same (as happened with LS) I would understand and it would be useful, but not with PS where storylines can be very different.

Ok, I was just wondering if you already had utility skills unlocked, that you are supposed to have all 3 unlocked at lvl 20.

Silly question but worth asking: does it happen all time and every time? You are unable to change skills while in combat mode, even though the menu opens when clicking that arrow. Also, at times you can get stuck in combat mode even when not actually fighting. I’m not saying that’s the case, just a guessing and only what I can think of so far.

The above email address is wrong. If you send mail there, ArenaNet won’t get any notice.
And, actually, the exploits address is for reporting actual exploits. To report someone using an exploit, you should contact the CS Team, either in-game or using the Support link/web-form.

Whoops, thanks for noting. I missed an “n” in “arena”, I have edited it. Also yes, you also can report these things through email, even a red post stated that once. Let me know if even exploits@arena.net isn’t right either, that’s how I recall it (maybe it’s “exploit@”, not sure).

Ok, I have double checked it through a video and what happens is the level-up guide is (not surprisingly) inconsistent. Firstly, in fact yes, at level 44 (not 43 as stated) it informs you about Fine Salvage kits and not unlocks it. I came to this conclusion because the hover text in it says “Click here for more information” while at level 2, per example, weapon skill unlock is presented like “Weapon Skill 2 Unlocked” and on level 10 vistas is like “Vistas Unlocked”.

However, why did I say it’s inconsistent? If we were to base unlock or not by the word “Unlocked” at the end, dungeons shouldn’t be considered unlock but information. Maybe that’s why Fine Salvage kits was taken as unlock and not just information about instead.

Here is a pic to show what I mean. Also I have fixed that thing about Fine Salvage kits on the wiki.

P.S.: Anyway it’s kind of silly (to not say other thing) to be taught about Fine Salvage Kits at lvl 44 when it was taught about salvaging lvls before…

I did confirm it. I used a fine salvage kit with a level 9 character. Is my post invisible? That bit of misinformation seems to be the only thing wrong on that chart. I did go through it.

Oh sorry, hehe, I saw your post. I meant if someone could confirm how it appears at that level, how the level up guide shows it.

The original page on wiki had “Information about” text for items which were just information, unlocks hadn’t it and then I put those with “Information about” in the “Information” column. However, this item specifically hadn’t such text then I assumed it would be an unlock.

And thanks for checking that list.

Doh, of course. Sorry, bit cranky while working at the moment. Too bad this didn’t come up the other day or I could have keep an eye out. I just had a character pass through the 40s. I have another one close to it so if this isn’t answered I’ll let you know.

Ok well, wiki is maintained by players then even though it’s considered as official it can contain errors. As Ashendale has said, the wiki really says it unlocks at that level:

Unlocks
Ability to use fine salvage kits

However, would be possible to someone confirm that please? I had overhauled that page and I broke it up in columns, maybe that info was put in the wrong column (Unlocks instead Information). In fact, a lot of that page still needs some confirmation.

The game is now a long, boring and forceful tutorial up to level 23. I did not pay for this kind of shabby treatment.

Well, I have said something like that before several times…

You can buy fine grade salvage kits at level 2. The wiki isn’t listing unlocks. It’s listening when you’re told about stuff. That’s all.

In the old system you weren’t told about them at all. But they don’t unlock at that level. They’re not locked at all.[sip]

Most of the things on that list aren’t locked at all.

Simply put, leveling up gives you information you might not have known. Why anyone would assume they’re locked out of it before then is beyond me.

That’s right and recently the wiki was changed and states that clearly:

Several systems presented in the level-up guide are not locked out, they can be accessed before the time through other ways (like portals or hotkeys).

However… that’s some improvement but even now it still doesn’t tell about several stuff people might not have known: retrieving loot, interacting with things like chests or doors, managing inventory like depositing all collectibles, wallet, etc.

There are things the NPR did right – rewards was one of them. I don’t really see anyone stating they have a problem with that. I do have a problem with how the rewards are delivered, [sip]

Yes, when you have a choice, we need a pop-up window. However, if we don’t have a choice to make, can the window be less obtrusive? Can we have a way to clear these things that doesn’t involve a click? Give us a way to keybind ‘close window’.

Yes, NPE isn’t sooo bad, it has some good things and rewards were one of them, although giving “information” as reward don’t make any sense to me and unfortunately some of the bad things overweights the good things. By the way, you can close some of those windows by using Esc if I’m not wrong (not all them though).

Also something that I’ve seen another talk of is that if you click it and don’t read it all at that moment, or have to get it out of the way because you got attacked by a wandering hylek, there is no way to go back and revisit it. I would welcome a section in the hero panel that lists level rewards, much like the achievement panel list the daily log in rewards

Well, before NPE there was a Help panel where you could see all those info about several game mechanics (it’s still accessible through hotkeys, check your keybind options for Info panel or something).

I think this could describe why some people wouldn’t see the bad things, or not get bothered by them, while others do:

Post on reddit:

Player A: Meh. I grabbed a new account during the sale, it’s really not onerous, and I know what I’m missing.

Player B: “it’s really not onerous”
That’s because even having been butchered, GW2’s New Player Experience is far far better than most.
If something is an 9/10 and is butchered down to a 7~8/10 it is still well above average.

From what I get, even with all the bad things NPE isn’t so bad in someone’s eyes because the beautiful of GW2 still makes it better than others out there. Even so it doesn’t make it to be any better or look as no issues at all.

(yay for flat formatting :P)

I guess I’m just tired of hand holding in MMOs. Just make a Tutorial that gives you an idea of what is about to occur, one I can skip on alts, and then let us loose to discover it all. Right now I feel forced to unlock things so I can then play.

/shrug

Old way didn’t hold the hand. I much prefer it to the NPE.

I did, but not so much as now. There was a very helpful Help panel and several popup hints every and then, that would show up just when certain new aspects showed up (like getting a mail or reaching a waypoint for first time).

Some hand-holding is always nice, mainly for those who needs it, but the issue here is everyone is forced to have too much hand-holding, even those who don’t need it.

The reason for them not doing something about this yet is that they are focused on content that is deemed more important. I would prefer for them to focus on HoT instead of this,

Honestly, as a programmer and software developer myself, I would prefer fixing and improving stuff than delivering more content that can even come broken as well.

These aren’t for the most part far-reaching changes and MOST of them don’t kick in on the second character you level.

Once you level your first character you can get skill points right away, you see vistas right away and yes, you can easily go into PvP right away through the crossed swords.

90% of the affects on your first character.

Forgot second character. Once again, NPE is about FIRST character, period. It’s merely natural that second character wouldn’t be badly affected by this; in fact it never should, not even a bit. The lessening of the issues with a second character doesn’t fix all the issues with the first character, neither make them less worse, don’t use it as argument.

You can report through both ways (in fact, I don’t think it would be much doing both), you can use the in-game tool, that’s through right-click their name as mentioned, or you can report through exploits@arena.net (in case you don’t know already). For right-clicking, it can be done through anywhere you would see their name (nameplates, party UI, any chats [map, party, etc], friend list, your mute list, and so on…). Maybe reporting via email could be good too as you can provide more details. Again I would suggest doing both.

By the way, just a reminder for anyone else who end up here: use these ways to report players, don’t expose names and exploits through forums as it’s against rules.

The NPE can be largely mitigated with the use of Experience Scrolls that boost your character to lv20. Unfortunately these are only given out sparsely. Birthday rewards, so when a character has existed for a year, and 5K achievement chests (5K, 10K, 15K, etc).

So not a good solution for people who picked up the game post-NPE as you’ll likely only have 1 or 2 of these.
But if you do you skip straight to lv20. From this starting point you get all utility skills and basic functionality (downed state, etc) unlocked. And your first trait is only 10 levels away, and your first Elite 11 levels.
That still leaves objectionable faults in the NPE, but the brunt of it is mitigated for the veteran players.

Yup, that’s an option but it shouldn’t be needed before all. That’s a workaround and workarounds don’t fix stuff. It seems like veteran players weren’t taken into account or were ignored/left aside when this NPE was planned, then in order to workaround the situation those Writs of Experience and others stuff began to be given to players.

More to the point, the NPE fixed things which used to be problems and yes, created other problems. The reason I say it used to be problems is because people did come to the forums and ask certain questions repeatedly. Many thought they were doing something wrong, because they were underleveled for the next story quest, and didn’t know that you weren’t supposed to run them in a row.

There are always going to be problems. Always.

Ok so, could you tell what type of issues it fixed? In my personal experience I had no major issues and when I had some minor one I could find help easily (that former Help panel was somewhat helpful). Regarding the story quest, in my case I never thought I was doing something wrong for being underleveled, contrariwise I would see it as “it wasn’t the time for it yet”.

Of course there always will be problems, but if like, let’s say, fixing 3 issues would bring up 7, it wouldn’t worth the trade off huh.

I’m pretty sure it came from the number of people during their free trial weekends that played till level 10 or 20 and just walked away.

Well, that doesn’t mean much. Maybe some people played during trial and never returned due not being able to purchase the game. I know a few ones that did so and even myself, I played a trial once and only bought the game months later.

~snip~
Maybe people need to stop being so self-centered and realize not everyone is as intelligent as they are and some people DO need more help and more time to get used to things.
~snip~

Oh I perfectly understand that some people DO need more help but other people DON’T so why force them to deal with this stupidity? Let me turn this whole NPE bullkitten off and I’ll have absolutely no problem at all with it beeing in game.

Exactly. Also neither everyone is so dumb. Simplifying things to help those who don’t understand or take more time to learn is always nice, I’m all for that. But forcing it down everyone’s throat, even for those who don’t need it, yes, is an issue and can feel insulting. How would you feel when at high school, after years and years of study and some experience acquired, your teacher would take a whole class time to teach you how to do basic calculations like 1+1? Wouldn’t it be annoying and maybe insulting for not taking in account people’s previous knowledge? Wouldn’t it be easier to take those with difficulties to a separate class for a more individualized assistance, letting them take their time to learn, while letting vet doing their thing as they already know? Doesn’t it all make any sense?

And yes, it’s insulting to be treated like “oh do you want to interact with this skill point? Sorry, we think you are not ready for this yet. We think you are not able to fight it or commune with it yet. Come back when we think you are more experienced.” It’s possible even those with some learning difficulty could feel annoyed by this. (or like in my own experience once in a lvl 80 at a starter map: “oh do you want to buy traits? Sorry, we think you aren’t experienced enough for it. Come back when we think you are more experienced.”)

I just want my natural weapon skill unlocking again. That change alone was heartbreaking.

Highlight is mine, isn’t it more clear about how it was before?

No, I would say there is no difference between how “clear” either were. You play the game, and you suddenly get skills added to your bar either way. Just one you got from using your weapon, which is very natural and the other you get them at set levels that limit your build until you get there. If you wanted more skills with the previous system, you went and practiced with the weapon. If you want more skill now, tough luck just keep leveling.

I won’t say that the system takes longer, or is more grindy when it comes to weapon skills necessarily. But now its just the typical you leveled, here is a new skill that almost every single MMO I played has. The natural unlocking at the beginning made the game feel new and exciting and different, even if it wasn’t actually that different at all. That was the beauty of the system.

Personally, that made me feel more like I was progressing a character than the cheesy DING! of me crossing another level off my checklist ever did.

I may have not worded well there. I wasn’t saying toward you or something, I just used your quote to highlight a thing: “natural”. Yes, the old system was more “natural” than now. Currently it feels like you “earn” the right to use skills instead “learning” how to use skills. My thoughts about it are very same as yours. My question there was more like rhetoric, hehe.

Today I was running around Queensdale and every few minutes had to explain to a low level player why they couldn’t see Vistas and/or Skill Points on their map. They seemed to think it was a bug instead of by design and got frustrated when they were unable to obtain a Skill Point until a later level.
[sip]
The Problem: Too much of the game’s content is locked out to new players.
[sip]
Much of what is unlocked in the first 15 levels or so feels arbitrary and unnecessary.

I have been saying that for months now. About map completion and stuff, it can be easily noticed by the amount of threads in this forum about that:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/When-I-press-M-cant-see-thta-board-on-left

(I could go on and on…)

Personally, when I log into a new game for the first time, I want to see a bunch of things that I will have the opportunity to learn about. I spend the first 10 minutes or so of a new game looking through the menus at skill trees and looking at the map to see what sorts of things there are to do. Being unable to use my skills and unable to see things on the map would be an overall frustrating experience that I would have to wade through to get to more interesting content.

Cannot agree more and I’m used to do the same.

I just want my natural weapon skill unlocking again. That change alone was heartbreaking.

Highlight is mine, isn’t it more clear about how it was before?

Do you mean an ignore thing here in the forums? I’m just confused what exactly you mean.

I wouldn’t advice you to post the full log anyhow, it may contain some personal info (IP address, username and stuff) as well it may be too long for posting here.

Log files would be usually at “C:\Users\<your_username>\AppData\Roaming\Guild Wars 2\ArenaNet.log”.

I would suggest repairing the game, but I see you already have done that. Does it happen specifically at a certain place or doing certain actions, or is it completely at random? I have never see that error myself but I would suppose it’s related to character model or something.

How can I do the daily things?

I can’t recall where I saw it but I think accounts with non-maxed chars aren’t given 3 choices of each daily type. What’s odd is requiring you to do 3 achievements when it gave only 1 of each type. From what I recall, accounts with non-maxed chars would be required to do only 1 or 2 achievements for daily, not sure though.

First off, bumping threads with posts after posts this way isn’t a good thing, you can get a warning for that. Secondly, from what I see it seems to be some connection issues. Does it happen only when going to Holebrak? Are you able to go to anywhere else in-game? That message only is too vague to do any troubleshooting.

My game crashes every time I open the map

Oh hmm, if other games are having issues too then probably it’s not specifically related to Guild Wars 2.

Ok let’s revise it. You said your graphic drives were up-to-date and it had issues. Also using a previous version didn’t help either… Have you done something with DirectX except checking if it’s up-to-date? Some graphic cards reinstall DirectX even though your current one is already up-to-date (maybe that’s why all the issues started at the same time). Maybe try to reinstall it or use a previous version? So far it sounds like some issue with DirectX maybe.

I have DirectX 11 (9.18.13.4752) here on Win 7 and I have no issues so far. No sure what’s the DirectX requirements for GW2 though.

And I still do not get the champ bag because I’m not partied up. Once I do one hit to a mob that the rest of my party is attacking, their DPS to the mob also counts as my DPS. This is why it is important to party up at certain world bosses if you want to get all the bags from the pre event champions.

I may have misunderstood but wasn’t it what they said? That you are kind of “required” to be in a party otherwise you won’t get anything?

players who go to the “Close the Mist Portals” pre-event in the Frozen Maw event chain wind up being too far away to quickly hit the Champion Svanir Shaman, and thus cannot get the Icy Strongbox he drops on his corpse unless there are either very few players present (unlikely in a Megaserver) or they are partied with someone else who stayed behind to hit the Shaman quickly once he becomes vulnerable. Players should not be punished for completing events, but that is the case in these situations.

The thing is, even though GW2 is meant to be a community thing where players are encouraged to do stuff in group, it shouldn’t require players to be in a party in order to get rewards. Simply put it should be like: do a minimum damage and you are eligible to get reward, period. No grouping or whatever required. I have gone through moments where I start attacking when the boss (champ or vet actually) is already at half of their health or less and with a reasonable group doing it, and even so I got no reward at all.

I can give another example related to Maw, that Frozen Totem. For several and several times I have got no loot neither event credit when doing it even after giving some hit. Players have gotten it down so quickly that if you delay 1 sec before start shooting you won’t get any event credit. Even worse, at times I have started shooting it so soon it spawned and no credit given either. In part I blame the broken targeting system, that insists to target a Moa nearby instead of what’s really in front me. :P
