Ah, thank you! The information is helpful.
It still feels like a bug to me what with how i get scooted around so much and the inconsistent story but, as long as it’s a known thing and I’m not going to get in trouble for it I guess I can live with it.
You are welcome. Yeah, for me too. I can’t see how it could be helpful or the reason for it but sadly it’s how it was intended.
Shouldn’t this be stickied?
Looks to be a pretty important thread.
Of course not! How could Anet continue pretending that this thread doesn’t exist if it was stickied?
Sarcasm aside, and blatant necros, what’s the likelihood they’ll revisit a thread with no community input in the last 2 months?
It’s not happenin’ if we say nothing. People are inherently lazy and pursue any and all forms of convenience; stickies mitigate this.
No community input in the last 2 months? Well, maybe because community got tired of talking with no response back… Also, that’s not true. If you mean this thread it has gotten input frequently and hardly has been more than 1 month without input.
What map and what skill point is it? Also, as pointed out, what level are you?
Old thread, but it explain why it happened to you: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/The-game-switched-my-order/
Btw, here is another recent one.. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Forced-order-choice/
(I wonder when they will realize what is wrong there…)
Hello everyone -
I don’t really like to post unless I can include a “soon” for a fix… but this issue is actually quite large and difficult to solve quickly. I don’t want you all to think that it’s being ignored, and once I or anyone replies in one of these threads it generates a lot of buzz and the last thing I want to do is be a debbie downer or promise (or even hint at!) something happening soon that is actually on a long time scale for fix/implementation.
I bring this bug specifically up with our producer for gameplay programming every month or so when this topic heats up again, and it’s been explained as a rather large rewrite that’s needed to fix it. They want to fix it too (and they find it just as annoying), but it unfortunately is the kind of fix has to be scheduled out and planned for. Think of this as similar to the fix we have coming for personal story. It’s a lot of work, and they want it done right.
Given the time the issue is around I can really imagine its difficulty, I know how these things are. Anyhow, thanks for taking time to come and reply even if it’s to say “yes, we know that but we haven’t found a fix yet”. I know it’s a pain when these “little bugs” get hidden very deep into the system, if you get what I mean. :P
By the way, there is a long thread about this issue (that seems to be buried into forums pages now) and I posted a few testing there, by chance would some of those things be helpful to track it down? Here is it: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Inventory-Window-changing-size-alone/
The issue is that in the game will attempt to keep players together.
So if a given story step asks: What do you want to do next? A or B. it will apply the choice to both players so they’ll both be on the same next step.
Where the problem comes up is there are a couple of story steps where the next step is dictated by the main player’s Order. It checks to see what Order they’re in, and sets the next step based on that. If they’re with a player of a different Order, and that player chooses to accept story progress, the game will assign them both to the same next story step, even if it’s one that the second player should normally not be on.
I hope that makes sense.
I’m know I’m late on this and I’m reviving an old thread, but I can’t avoid adding a comment to that post… Sorry but even though it makes sense, it’s stupid and confusing. When a player chooses to join someone’s instance they usually mean to help with that instance, not a whole story chapter. Also the “accept progress” prompt is easily misleading and lacking info about what’s going to happen.
Just adding my thoughts on this as I saw that post only now.
Sadly, it’s intended. If you accept the progress you will be put in the same story step as your friend, however you will get back to your story step at the end of that step.
I wonder how devs can’t see how this is confusing and not user friendly given so many threads created about this… (I’ll link a few so soon I find them..)
One more thing: for those saying that traits isn’t part of NPE, you are partially right. Traits were changed before NPE but NPE made them worse. After April 2014 Feature Patch, it was a nice and interesting idea to have traits being unlocked by doing some content (not taking in account that some of those content keeps being bugged). But after September 2014 Feature Patch and NPE it got worse by being given trait points and access to them later than before.
September didn’t push traits back, but it did make leveling even more restrictive and boring by gating utility skills and downed skills, which made a lack of traits even more noticeable. Traits were pushed back with the April 15, 2014 patch.
That’s basically what I said: traits changes were done before NPE, but NPE affected it and made it worse.

It’s curious and so nice to see that mods keep merged threads while not a single dev comes up to give any news about this all. But not losing hope, they have listened about the changes to Personal Story, who knows stuff about all other NPE craps can be listened too… One can hope…
Yeah, as said above story chapters are unlocked at each 10 levels. If you finished a story step and you are below the level for the next step you won’t see any green start or indications about the next step until you reach such level (very user friendly huh… Nop…) Some more info here http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Level_rewards
(Yay, du*** NPE strikes again :P)
Merchants on cities usually sell all levels of tools, but not all merchants would sell them. The one that’s sure you will find the tools are the Crafting Masters. Merchants on other maps usually sell only up to the level of such map though.
Is there any news on when this is going to happen? I just reached the story step where I will be entering the dream with Trehearn. How far past this step can I go before I would start interfering with this upcoming change on my character? I want to experience the new story exclusively and to never have experienced this interim change they’ll be fixing.
From the OP it would be 8 weeks. I believe it’s around 6 weeks now from the date of this post (4/13).
I can’t recall what chapter and step is the one you are talking about, then I can’t tell how you would be affect and if you would be so.
Let us start the last chapter before level 80 !!!!! Better is remove the level restriction in story after level 30
That would be great and that how it was before (you could play a story step even before reaching the required level).
Meh... I’ve gotten warned for being off topic and yet Vayne’s semantic derails and "Forum users are all numbskulls who are just trying to make trouble!" posts are a-ok... so I wouldn’t put much faith in them.
:S Yeah I understand, I also went through that a few times, but like I said it’s up to them. *shrugs*
Yup, you cannot compare ping to two completely different servers, the path to them are different then their ping/time will be different (like Tamasan explained). If you were pinging GW2 servers through Ping utility and then both would be different, so that would be another case.
The NPE has it’s goods and bads and as I have been “training” alot of new players they handle the NPE pretty well and as long as I shut up and not talk about wardrobe and salvaging stuff to get luck and unluck skins before they hit specific levels they will not get confused. I try to asnwer their questions and the rest is up to them to learn and new players do level quick and learns quick and even some players get to much information to quick even with the ultra babysitting NPE so I have to help explain stuff even clearer to them.
Try to play the game as the Veteran you are and let the new players play the game as new players and let them complain about the NPE. So again the only bad part about all this as a veteran leveling a new character is that we have to buy or search for every darn trait and this is not NPE and will get a fix.
Well, if it would affect only new players I could shut my mouth, but sadly it doesn’t. It also affects veterans alike and then everyone is affected, not only when it comes to get traits. As someone has said, using the whole leveling process as a huge boring tutorial is silly and wrong (actually, what tutorial? Like telling players about underwater combat with only pointing the mini map? Tutorial requires practice, not only floating popups). And this ties with my next point…
Basically what I’m saying as a new player is that I don’t know the old system so this one now is just fine.
Firstly, welcome to Guild Wars 2 kindofabuzz. Glad you are enjoying the game.
However, that’s what makes me curious. What would you think about it if you knew or heard about how it was before? If you could choose, what one would you prefer?
It’s hard to tell if the changes were a good decision or not if what is taken in account is only opinions from new players who didn’t deal with the previous way. From what I see a few new players would see it fine because despite all it’s still better than others games out there, but it doesn’t mean the changes were well done. That’s why I wonder if their opinion would be different if they knew how it was before (but learning about it through unbiased way though).
P.S.: @ Sages: I don’t think you should worry that much. I don’t see how your post is bad enough to deserve an infraction, I don’t think you made so direct attack, I see it as a good criticism actually. I have seen similar posts around here and they stayed fine (still published), but who I am to say anything, it’s up to mods anyway.
(edited by shadow.6174)
Yeah, you aren’t supposed to know about map completion until that level. After you unlock it you will see them on any character. (yay, dumb NPE strikes again… :P)
Yay, du*** NPE strikes again :P

In what ways does it look trashed? Do you get a blank page or it just have some parts missing? Also yes, do as Inculpatus mentioned, try different browsers if possible, maybe it’s something wrong with that browser.
- Story maps/scenery reflecting the game’s timeline. As in; currently not at all, such as with PS steps in LA showing post-Scarlet scenery. Grating, immersion-breaking, and completely undermining any and all effort to create a valuable story experience. Don’t get me wrong, I like Back 2 the Future and all, but I don’t think it works in a GW2 setting. I’m sure we can expect Tyria to change even more in the future- please take this point into consideration when you’re updating maps and find a way to fix/avoid this issue.
I don’t know exactly what you meant there but it was already mentioned that they are brining the old look for the instance maps to look as it was “when” that instance happened.
It’s not lag/skill lag, as others stated something changed. I was used to have issues with it during bazar but I could easily workaround it. Now, on past months, I hardly pass those areas requiring Lightning Pull. If it would be skill lag other skills would also suffer but they don’t, skills 6-7 triggers almost like immediately (time between hitting the key and start of cast time).
The “symptoms” is like mentioned: untargeted version tosses you far from that pyramid thing, targeted version either does a shot jump or also tosses you past the target. Curiously I noted a thing today: when I had to use the untargeted one at a platform, if I just hit the skill without using any movement keys it would toss me past the platform and I would fall down. If I would use the backward key to prevent the excessive momentum it would do a short jump and I would fall mid way without even reaching the platform.
Once I got so mad because this kitten skill that I just did a /sit for a bit and then kept messing around until the time was over…
Another thing: wth does it have to make calculations at client side so it ends affected by lag? Why can’t the untargeted version just do as said: put you into that pyramid thing?

Yup, it’s already known and has been that way since that heart was added.
This is maybe a stupid question, but my situation was not mentioned in the OP:
My Engineer was already in the Greatest Fear plot (Breaking the Bone Ship, not completed) when the NPE update launched. I stopped playing the PS at that point, hoping it will be corrected sometime
I would assume everything will be fine with my PS after the coming update and go on like it would have before the NPE update?
I believe so. If you didn’t progress any further after the changes hit then possibly you won’t miss anything after the restoration.
Do we have any idea of when this will be implemented?
See the OP, it was said that’s in around 8 weeks at least.
The PoI addressed this very thing.^ Lion’s Arch will be back to its original form for the Personal Story, and I’m guessing that Fort Concordia will, as well. The Devs expressly stated that instances that were changed in the open world due to Living Story would be in their orginal form for the PS.
Yay! =)
Oh woot, that’s great to hear. Sorry I didn’t see PoI then I missed it, thanks for the info.
If they were both in the same zone standing beside each other I might call it a bug. Otherwise it’s just Evon going about his own business in the zones he needs to go visit. You just happen to always stumble upon him in those two places.
NPCs have their own lives as well, sort of. It’d be cooler if he walked from one place to the other instead of permanently being in both places.
Those are both in Lion’s Arch, just one is in the north and the other is in the south. It’s a bug.
But they aren’t standing beside each other. More than likely, though, the Captain Evon Gnashblade is a remnant of Season 1.
It seems like that. Given the different nameplate and gear I would think one is a leftover from something. Instead reusing the same NPC it seems a new one was made. Well, there are more leftovers from Season 1 in LA, check those Marriner Plaques :P Some dev needs to do a better clean up :P
Know what’d also be a nice change to the PS? Make the missions/instances with Lion’s Arch look like the OLD Lion’s Arch. It just makes way more sense. If people ask like “Why isn’t it ruined by Scarlet?” just let them know the PS is meant to take place BEFORE Scarlet. Please, fix this. Having Lion’s Arch look destroyed by Scarlet and then fighting off a Dragon who attacks, it just looks… wrong.
I’d add Fort Concordia too. It seems weird for the Pact to choose a ruined fort that’s full of Mordremoth’s vines and on fire as their first base. Especially since Mordremoth hadn’t woken up then.
But I suspect that’s probably a bit too much work. From the first post (and earlier posts on this) it sounds like the changes are all being made by the writers and voice actors, not people who can change which version of the map is used in the instance.
I also would like that and it would make a lot more sense. Although I can see a reason for what they did I have a suggestion: why not having another copy of the map to be used for these instances? I see they reused the current map maybe to not having copies of the same map in the game files, but what would be the issue for doing so? What would be a few more MBs for a game that has just hit 20 GB? :P I’m all for having these instances in their original look. Playing “An Apple A Day” in a destroyed LA ruins all the immersion.
The question “What to do with characters who stopped progressing the Living Story after the September patch and are in chapter 7 or 8” is still open. I guess that the answer will be to wait for the patch and pretend nothing happened in September? My Engineer is (still) at Estate of Decay and that is for me C8 Step 4A. If I continue now I will miss part of the story (the part that is now the end of chapter 7 instead of chapter 8 )?
Not sure if it has already been answered but from what I see if you had put your Personal Story in a hold since that patch I would say: “just continue doing so (not progressing it) until the fix comes live”. It seems the worse case and issues would be for those who progressed it through the changed order, so they could miss parts after the fix comes. However, if you didn’t “move a inch” on progression so far you have nothing to worry, possibly you aren’t going to miss anything. Btw, that’s my exact case. My chars’ PS has been on hold since that patch.
That are great news, it seems I finally will take my personal story off itkittenus it has been since that patch xD.
Btw, while you are at it, can we get rid of the level gating on Personal Story? Can we have it available with each level instead having it in chunks? It could still be locked if your level is below that step but make it always available. It sux finish a part and have to wait 10 levels without no idea of what is next.
Personal Story helped me with exploring as it would lead me to explore the areas where the next step were going to be. Now we are left without no direction to explore around. Of course, exploring on our own is great and I like that, but what if we go exploring the opposite direction and then the next chunk becomes available? Give players more freedom to play it as they wish. (one can dream…)
And I’ve been aware about the removal of the personality system since they took it out. It may not have had any functional effect on the game but it still gave the game a bit of character. This game is so dead and soulless now.
Good point. I liked that personality thing and made me curious although I couldn’t see it in effect than a few NPCs choices. I was looking forward to see it improved and better used instead removing it for good :S
About PS, I just found this: http://dulfy.net/2015/03/31/gw2-personal-story-restoration-update/ and I had no idea about the official statements in https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Personal-Story-Restoration-update/. Late, but good news though. (Keep going guys, we are being listened after all :P)
Bug Fixes:
- Fixed an issue with the fear condition in which the interrupt functionality would not trigger.
Already known issue brought with 16 March patch: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Bugs-from-16th-Patch-Compiled
This makes the game so terrible, grainy, poorly animate, I now don’t want to play the game. So jokes on you guys, I am not going to spend anymore on you game.
How interesting is ppl humor sense… It should be already over by the time of this post and the joke doesn’t ruin the game, there are a lot of great stuff to discover in the game. Don’t judge a book by its cover :P
Happy April’s Fools :p It should be already over by the time of this post.
Already known issue anyway: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Bugs-from-16th-Patch-Compiled
It is opt-out already: take a break from the game, play tomorrow.
Yup, there is life out of the game! Didn’t like it or got fed and annoyed? Take a break and come back later :P At least they tried something.
When did it start? There is a bug with the ‘sepia effect’ (yeah, seems like it’s part of an April’s fool joke) that causes nameplates to show up over obstacles.
One year later, the history repeats itself. Boy, do I love this day for these rage comments.
Yeah, I remember how it was about those bubbleheads… And now we have it as a Gem Store item lol.
Yea this joke has royally ticked me off. its ruined my whole week. i get a few hrs a a week to play this game to rewind and relax seeing as its hard for me to relax and calm down and video games helps me and this is the first video game to help me in longtime and thanks to this stupid airplane it has ruined it. When i attack monsters im hitting 30-40 damage i cant kill anything and it seems like i have no armor on. I WANT COMPENSATION FOR THIS BS AND NOT SOME STUPID CRAP. DONT EVER DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS AGAIN.
Firstly, yelling, demanding, ordering or whatever won’t help anything but make frustrations worse. Secondly (and this is directed to everyone), even though it seems to be a bad choice for a joke just chill out, it was just a joke. There are life out of the game. If you didn’t like their joke then just take a time off game and do something else. I understand how it can be annoying and it was a bad choice to force it on everyone but it’s not the end of world, they just tried a joke (not so creative as Google but well..) and yelling or cursing won’t help.
O.o true, something look very wrong there. Easily noticeable just when comparing with the English version: https://api.guildwars2.com/v2/items/8468?lang=en

Lol, once again threads got oddly merged and posts look a bit non-sense... I wonder what a discussion about vistas has to do with NPE... but well... * shrugs*
Anyway, thanks all for opinions and tips about vistas, and yeah I also think they great and not that hard after you get used to them... but for those who would get here from now, let’s not derail this thread and focus on the subject (as a weird merge was done here).
Whoa lol! Does it happen with any mini or only which that one specifically?
Lol, I remember doing the same mistake. I was in WvW and saw my armor greenish and I was like “wth” until I realized it was that Team Color setting. xD
Glad I could help. Yes, I recall me and others having this issue a while back, hehe.
