I agree with everything thats pretty much been said in this thread. Yes, i’d love it, but i realize ANet will never put the effort in to create one, unless GW2 gets almost as big as WoW, and they have the resources to do it.
If they did, and just for the fun of speculation, i’d love to see dwarves in the game, but not the Ogden model, because Ogden looks like a refried old stale kitten as a character model.
After 6hrs, i FINALLY got a map where he moved. WOOT!
5 hours now, and Ulfred still hasn’t moved…
This is frustrating.
So i’m trying to do a Nevermore collection step, which requires me to defend the drake eggs from the grawl in Wayfarer foothills.
According to https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Talk:Stop_the_grawl_from_stealing_drake_eggs – The Ulfred event, “Defend Ulfred until he finds a location for his statue.” needs to be done, prior to the grawl going after the drake eggs.
I’ve been watching Ulfred for the last 3 hours (thank goodness for Netflix!), and Ulfred ain’t movin. I’ve talked to him several times, but he doesn’t seem to want to go find a place for his statue. Several people gathered on him, and he as still unmotivated to move. Can you guys reset the events in this zone or fix it?
https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/4vxxyf/has_anyone_else_noticed_issues_with_skill/
Also, Revenant skill 3 seems to be bugged, as it is not firing off every once in a while either.
In addition, i’d like to add that the movement bug is still on the table. It occurs whenever you first WP into a zone. As soon as you appear and try to move, your character kinda “clenches” up, like they are just about to walk/run forward, and they just stop. You have to release your arrow or ‘w’ key and press it again to get them moving. There was another condition that was creating this bug to happen, but i forget what it was.
Either way, the big bug here is that button response to abilities seems to be terribly bad, at random, right now. This is coming from both NA and EU players, so please look into this.
Its a serious question, an i have a serious answer:
I was a WoW player for over the last 12 years, on and off. I love the lore, and i loved the game, but i moved on. In terms of sheer quality, WoW and FFXIV own this market. They are the best at the ‘stand in place to fight’ MMO. No questions asked. All around, great games.
However, nothing compares to the combat that one finds in GW2. Sure, ALOT could be done to fix this game, but in terms of sheer gameplay, no matter what Blizzard throws out there, its just not worth looking at a new xpac, with the same old combat that has aged terribly over the years. So no, i will be passing on Legion. I’ve seriously tried to get back into it, but i just couldn’t handle how boring it is anymore.
Now, if Blizzard reinvents WoW, to be more like GW2’s combat and stats system, and make it better…well, we all wouldn’t be discussing this on a GW2 forum. Thankfully, it’ll never come to that, and we can continue to enjoy GW2 and expect great things from Arena Net.
I completely disagree with this thread. There is no logic to this request. If you don’t like rewards, then simply delete them, and move on. No one is forcing you to salvage them or vendor them. The economy has gotten ALOT better, and the reward system feels PERFECT right now.
I read this thread like, “HAI GUISE! STOPS WIT MAKIN THE GAMES FUN! WUT WRONG WIT U!?!?!?”
I can’t grasp any reason as to why anyone would complain about a reward for doing something. Its like telling the baker to make a cake out of celery…kinda defeats the purpose, don’t ya think?
There is actually a few things that you can do to eliminate this handicap:
1. f.lux – a software that will dim your screen, so that the bright flashing lights don’t aggravate your migraines: https://justgetflux.com/
2. A privacy cover for your monitor. Best By and Newegg sell them, but you’ll need to dig into it, to find one that dims the screen. Its better to regulate this with software.
If the issue isn’t the brightness of the screen or effects, and more the motion of the action on the screen, then “dramamine” might be an alternative: http://www.dramamine.com/
Otherwise, i’d consult with your physician and see if they can prescribe you something to assist with the acute vertigo that you suffer from.
Worse case scenario is that you may need to look into games aren’t as action oriented. I know that sounds harsh, but its a reality for many. For example, i can’t play fighter games on consoles anymore, because they completely kill my hands, and cause them to cramp up. Granted, i’d could overcome that, if i just played fighter games more often, and retrain the muscles, but meh. Easier just to play what i find relaxing.
Good luck!
I haven’t had much time to play, as my cohorts here, have. But i loved the following:
Shining blade BP and glider skins
Fractal changes and AR Vendor – i love everything you guys did here, as its made it leaps and bounds easier for my group to get in and play through the various levels. HUGE THANK YOU!!! for this.
Salvage ALL THE THINGS! YEEEESSSSSS!!!!
New zone is crazy and i love it!
I thought balance was perfectly fine, but i also don’t main an Ele, so i can’t confirm.
Story is on par with most everything in Hot. I loved the humor in the first few bits i played.
Most of all – i love that this zone isn’t a DESTROY YOU ALL! type area. What i mean, is that when i run through any HoT area, its a battle. I mean, everything and anything is going to kill you hard, if you don’t pay attention. This area, not so much. I like that i can actually explore, and kill the mobs without having to WP every 10min.
The one thing that i didn’t like at all, and is absolutely abhorrent, is the insider trading issue your company has. There was a thread on reddit regarding the price of Stabilizing Matrices last night, with the gw2spidy links to show the history where they shot up in price, right before the patch dropped. We’ve noticed this as a usual occurrence right before each of the patches have dropped, it seems.
Issiah Cartwright (sorry if i butchered the name!), replied and stated that he was going to look into this, and i hope hes productive. Somehow, what you ship is getting linked to a few select people in-game.
It has to stop, and we need some sort of news on this front.
Update: It has happened again. This time with Stabilizing Matrix. Someone over on the subreddit found it: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/4ur0o1/stabilizing_matrices_and_insider_trading/
I really wish Arena Net would put a stop to this. We’re not operating in a fair market at all here. I see this as an outright exploit at this point.
I get, now, why the you guys pulled back on dungeons being profitable and didn’t want to develop for them.
The whole idea was to make fractals the ‘go-to’ for 5 man content. Fractals have all the carrots to make you want to keep doing them, they’re profitable, and (i know this is subjective) more fun.
My only thought here: If you guys would have tried to communicate the overall plan, from when you made the announcement about dungeons, up to today, you could have saved yourselves SO much flak here, and on the reddit forums. I know ANet had said this, but when they made the announcements, it wasn’t really too clear. And in the minds of the players, it was really looking like the intent was to kill a source of income for a lot of players.
I definitely think FotMs is the way to go. I enjoy them more so than dungeons, and i think the Agony system was a really nice touch to the whole thing. I think the changes made today, were just to bolster this system and make it better. But…if only you guys had found a way to tell us this, without giving it all away, so that we would be patient, and believe in your idea. >_<
Just “wow”. MO, you have delivered! Thank you guys for listening, and doing all these changes. I know there are still going to be rough edges, and things for people to complain about, but WOW! So many QOL changes here, that im just amazed.
EXTREMELY NICE JOB GUYS!!!
I also did some further research on this subject, and found that there were a few conversations on it, over the last 4 years. The official/initial reply was (2012): https://www.engadget.com/2012/10/04/arenanet-offers-explanation-for-guild-wars-2s-diminishing-retur/
Others noticed this issue as well, brought it up, it was debated, and no follow up from the developers was ever made:
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/68826-the-dr-controversy/
I know Arena Net is trying to communicate with us more, and i sincerely appreciate the effort, and what they’ve done to change their history with the fanbase, but i honestly feel that this is still a very hot subject that needs more definition, or some sort of update.
Will it stop fans from playing the game? No.
Will it stop newer players hitting the cap, and trying to put together the gears needed for fractals and raids? Most definitely.
Does this system indirectly cause anyone determined enough, to use the gem-to-gold transaction system in order to create the gear they need? For those who can afford it, yes. For those who can’t, they’ll most likely drift off to other games with lesser time requirements, and easier to achieve goals.
Does there need to be system in place to stop botters? YES!!!
Does there need to be a system in place to stop everyday players who play on a map for an average amount of time? NO!!!
In the end, this thread won’t be answered. The question will be forgotten. And this will be yet another google result that someone will pull up and read through to come to the same results i did, and realize that they A. Need to quit the game, or B. Spend more money on gems to outright buy whatever they need from the TP.
This afternoon, i noticed that after 10 events in FGS, my karma reward dropped significantly on the 11th event. I noticed that map rewards and and loot, began dropping off after the 20th champ kill. Thats about 30-45 minutes in FGS, with a champ train.
At this point, my only conclusion is that the map reward system they created for core Tyria is an illusion, and the only real way to farm a decent amount of rewards is in the HoT areas. However, there is no sure fire way to farm the exact mats that you need, such as Powerful Blood, or Wicked Claws.
This is disappointing, but if you have multiple characters, its more the inconvenience of jumping to a different character, and continuing your farm, than anything else. If a simpleton like me was able to casually notice this, and realize the smoke’n’mirrors behind the scenes, i’m sure that people brazen enough to write and run bots have a more accurate image of how the system really works.
If my results are indeed true, i think the system needs to be reviewed.
@Ill: No one is asking to turn it off here, and allow botters to run rampant. In no way am I asking this. What i’m asking for is clarification on how it works, AND if they can’t provide that, can they confirm that it won’t affect players playing in a map for an approximate limit of 2 hours. Thats all.
I don’t understand your objections to ANet being mysterious about how DR works. If they explain it, that benefits botters (since they can easily program around it) and hurts ordinary players (since they have to work harder to do so).
Also, don’t assume that because you don’t see botters that they aren’t there. Botters might be more visible in FF14 because the mods aren’t as quick to remove them or less visible in GW2 because they know where to go to keep from getting reported.
Finally, if ANet wanted to promote more gem-to-gold transactions, there are dozens of more efficient ways to do so, a lot of which would not annoy players as much as DR does.
I’m coming from the standpoint that most ever other MMO that i’ve played, details out what drops for doing certain challenges. Its kind of a universal thing to communicate to your users that if kill monster A, you get loot B. It may not be verbose, in-game, but they do it with more subtle hints, such as “bear drops leather or fur, because it is a bear, that has leather or fur on it’s person”. Or, “Raid Boss X is guaranteed to drop one exotic item per kill”. Again, may not be verbose in-game, but once someone kills it, most everyone knows that if you want that exotic item, if you have to go kill “Raid Boss X”. My point with that, is that in some fashion/method/way, we are implicitly told what to expect.
Honestly, and again, all i want is a simple yes or no on if i go farm events on a map, that i’m not going to hit DR in 2 hours, which i saw lastnight, and i wasn’t even in FGS for 2 hours, but it was the same 5-6 events. If those events are means to obtain items i need to craft end game materials, then yes, it is vitally important to know what my limits are, so that i can either work around them, or find some other method to obtain them.
If botters are botting, then chances are they’ve known the limits far longer than what we have. In knowing this, you may have a point in that i should probably be asking them. Does that sound right? It doesn’t to me.
I think the OP in the reddit thread doesn’t understand the impact of botting on the economy. As others explained in that thread, loosening the rules a little benefits botters a lot more than ordinary players and hardcore farmers.
As an example, AB multi-loot is a farming mode without diminishing returns. It has had a huge impact on the economy, so huge that there have been several posts from players demanding it be nerfed (I’m not one of those players and I apologize if I triggerd anywhere into feeling the need to comment on AB multiloot instead of on DR).
DR is set up to protect the community in much the same way that other anti-RMT measures do: by throttling chat, mail, gold transfers, and yes, rewards (from kills or events), the impact is reduced. It’s a compromise between allowing players total freedom (which allows the same for botters) and more draconian restrictions (getting kicked, losing all rewards, being unable to change zones or characters).
tl;dr DR is probably going to be here to stay, because it provides substantial protection to the overall economy, and therefore to the vast majority of players.
@Ill – I do understand. I’ve played multiple MMOs over the years, and have seen first hand, the damage they can do. Make no mistake, i’m not asking for DR to be removed. I’m simply asking for clarification, and the understanding that players – NOT bots – do play maps for 1-2 hours at a time. Some even longer, but only ANet would know the actual averages and metrics on this. Everyone i know, happens to stick around for 1-2 hours, and i figure thats fairly normal. Where bots would spend unlimited hours on farming.
What hangs me up even more on this, is the following statements on the wiki page:
“Again, ArenaNet will not offer the details of how it works and some of the mechanics changed with the release of Heart of Thorns”
“It also applies to completing multiple events within a single map in core Tyria. However, there’s less agreement about whether it’s the events, an amount of time spent on the map, or the value of Map Bonus Rewards. It also appears to be variable, triggering with as few as 10 events or 30-45 minutes of time spent doing events.”
“There is no consensus about how to clear Map DR; some believe it requires an equivalent amount of time spent in another map, some think it requires doing a number of events elsewhere, and others think it only clears with server reset.”
“Both event and map DR set in quickly once triggered. It is easy to see its effects by comparing the amount of karma or XP, as well as the absence any boss chests or a decrease of other rewards.”
Even at the current level, it could be assumed that botters could easily level up multiple toons and simply switch them when the rewards threshold was lowered, right?
But on another note, i’ve yet to run across any botters, and i’ve seen many of them in games like FFXIV.
Furthermore, without anything official from the devs, it stands to let the philosophy meander, that this could be another system in place to promote more gem-to-gold transactions.
@Danikat, i see your point. However, without clear guidelines from the company that imposed them, its very difficult to see where the limits are. Lastnight, i was on FGS for about 45 minutes, and began to notice that i was getting less and less karma per event. Add to this, that map chat was carrying on about DR, and you can see how easy it is to mistake everyday bad RNG, with a system that may be in place and causing the issue.
However, since that reddit post was created, its done a fine job of creating awareness, that even a 2.5 year player wasn’t aware of. This being the case, it now only adds more challenge to the game, in that i now have to farm on seperate toons after i begin to notice the DR kicking in.
I think a 2 hour limit, confirmed by Arena Net would work wonders in this instance. Its better to know what your limits are, instead of wasting time after you’ve surpassed them.
I was recently visting the GW2 subreddit, when i stumbled upon this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/4u260k/rant_about_dr/
Now vulgarity aside, i checked the GW2 wiki page, and found the following: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Diminishing_returns
What is upsetting is that if you like your character, and you are doing events to farm in-game materials and currency, you get less and less rewards per each successful/failed event after 10. (Note: Why would we even get rewards for a failed event??)
I understand this was done to detour bots. Good idea, but i’m sure there is a best practices handbook somewhere that reads: Don’t implement a system or technology that is going to hamper your users.
In spite of the map rewards, Silverwastes, and Dry Top farming that occurs currently in-game, where players will stay on the map for an average of 1-2 hours, can we possibly ‘up’ that DR time to 2 hours?
The impact on me personally is very low, as i have many, many toons, and can swap to each of them after any 10 events, but to newer players trying to establish a foot-hold in the game, i can’t imagine this is a very welcomed rule.
In the past, Square Enix tried a similar rule with the first version of Final Fantasy 14: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Fatigue_System
They further realized the folly in this system, and subsequently removed it: http://news.mmosite.com/content/2011-07-14/fatigue_system_removed_from_final_fantasy_14.shtml
Granted experience =/= in-game rewards, but with the sheer amount of rewards needed to achieve some of the higher goals in the game, it just seems silly to keep this rule in place. Given, that rewards and materials are needed to fuel the player in the end-game.
I humbly request that this policy be re-reviewed, and changed as to benefit those players that are putting 2 hours a night or day into any given zone. Please advise.

When you accept the fact that the only sure-fire way to get anything substantial in-game is via collection rewards, map rewards, and what you can buy off the TP with gold, you’ll be alot better off, and less stressed about trying to figure it out.
I naturally do every champion event, expecting 2 blues and 1 green, that converts into a tiny bit of luck, and an elder wood log, or chunk of mythril ore. I find that 99% of the time, i’m rarely disappointed, and therefore are never unhappy with the rewards, with or without magic find.
And again, i STRONGLY disagree with this request, as it would waste alot of gems i’ve spent. Yes, i know its expensive but its worth it to buy a set for each alt. After seeing what the feedback was on shared inventory slots, i hope they never create a “shared harvesting slot”.
I fail to see your point. Roflstomping a lowbie champ isn’t what they intended. However, if you’d like go solo some Chak Gerants, or a Mordremoth or two, then you’d have something to boast about!
Fractals are also extremely lucrative now too. They have also put gold rewards back into dungeons. No, its not as bad as it used to be. In fact, its much, much better.
Do EOTM if you are looking for a fight. EOTM applies towards the reward track progress.
You can’t really ‘farm’ anything in this game, except the gold you need to buy the mats you want
That’s not entirely true. Part of the reason prices are high is that people are following that same mentality. That you can’t farm. It’s easier/faster/better to farm gold, and buy. Which of course leads to more demand, and less supply, and higher prices. Instead of getting large quantities of supply, it’s coming in trickles, with people selling what they get from salvaging.
However, heavy bags are often the best for this sort of thing, and not just any heavy bag will do. Check the wiki you can find what bags give the most, where those bags are, and the drop rates of said bags. With a little bit of research one can effectively farm just about any crafting mat.I’m referring to what most MMO players think of as farming. This game doesn’t have it.
It does have farming… But instead of killing the same type of mob over and over and over, its more profitable to join up with a group/zerg/blob and go do meta events, or if in Orr – Temple events. There are quite a few guilds who are doing organized runs on these meta events, so be on the lookout for organized guilds, join, and then follow their schedule.
This is what i had to do, to make the return on time, worthwhile (and more fun).
Doesn’t WoW and other subscription based game have a cash shop as well?
They do. But just like with GW2, its not a necessity to enjoy the game. Therefore, GW2 would be the best investment. However, farming for highest tier gear goes ALOT faster in WoW than it does in GW2, as there is no crafting barrier where rarely dropped items actually matter. You just jump in the raid finder once or twice a week, and you’re facerolling raid content to get epics. FFXIV is a bit harder, but you can still get ilvl gear only 5pts away from top raid gear from doing daily dungeons and etc.
Spending money on a hobby or game that you like is not a bad thing. Spending money on a hobby or game that you do not like, is insanity.
They are account bound, and yes, the sickle appears slow.
DISCLAIMER: If i had to do it all over again, i probably would have spent more.
I was curious to see how much money i’ve spent on GW2’s Gem Store today. So i went into my email account, and checked. I keep everything, and sort them into folders, because its a thing. I found something kinda shocking.
The game costs $50 at launch, and $50 for the xpac. So base investment was $100. Its now $50, because the core game is free.
My total amount spent in the gem store from my CC, was $1215. This was in addition to around $120 in Best Buy gem cards, because reasons. So the total is $1335, total.
I’ve been playing for 3 years, off and on, so i did the math on this, per month: $1335 / 36 months = $37.08 per month.
WoW’s monthly sub is $15 a month, while FFXIV’s sub is anywhere from $14 to $32 (depending on if you ‘rent’ the extra retainers per month and have the full account, allowing more than one toon per server).
What did i blow all this on? Gem store stuff, and mainly gem to gold transactions, because i wanted a BLTP skin, or i was crafting ascended stuff, and was impatient. Mainly silk.
My further thoughts on this is that it was money well spent, because i was thoroughly entertained during the times i was actively playing. Otherwise, i do feel that Gem Store pricing is abit high for its value. I really feel that $10 USD should net you 1000 gems, or that base price on most items should be set to 400-800 gems, with larger, more expensive items being multiple of 4 or 8, so that we don’t end up with weird/odd/off numbers of gems.
In some ways, i realize that its setup like this so that we spend more than we’ll actually use on an impulse buy, but I like round numbers.
Again, if i had to do it again, i probably would have spent more, but it took me quite a while, and alot of eRage to realize how great this game really is. Moving forward, i’m hoping to bump my monthly up to $40-$45 a month, to assure that GW2 stays around for a very long time to come.
To those of you who recently started GW2 and seeing this as an “OMG factor”, give it time. You don’t need to spend this sort of money to enjoy the game at all, but i’ve most likely cut out a year or two in sheer farming time, by doing this, and i have many, maaaany characters that i play, because i really enjoy the game.
/cheers
Just wanted to add my experience about an event. It happens near Guardpoint Decimus Waypoint. Ghosts spawn wave after wave to destroy two tents. I’ve played this event twice in the past two days and we couldn’t save the tents. Either we, players who were desperately trying to accomplish the mission are too weak, or the tents are too easily ruined by the ghosts.
Wow, OP is necro’d. In regards to this comment above: I honestly believe it is meant to be unbeatable. I’ve done it with small groups, and massive groups, and no matter what we do, those ghosts always end up destroying the huts.
Its either bugged, or some psychological testing on ANet’s side. Either way, i tend to avoid it, since its not really important towards anything.
Thank you Mike for the ‘heads up’ as well as all the hard work!
Ditto! I always have tons to do, so no worries here.
Colin’s comments in this video are hilarious.
Ah well, i still think this game is freakin cool, and to hell with the haters.
Couple things..
1. ANet is gonna do what ANet is gonna do, regardless of what anyone thinks, because its their business. Lose players. Gain players. It matters little, unless profits drop, which they really haven’t.
2. Which leads me to: These forums and subreddit. Many people love to do absolutely nothing, but complain. Too much to do. Too little to do. Not enough this. Too much that. And etc, etc. If you read all the negative posts now, everyone is complaining about a content drought, instead of being happy with what was, and moving on to something else to play, during the interim. Honestly, you don’t have to play this game 24/7, 365. I swear!
3. Alot of people bought into the negative hype from the forums and subreddit, thus it began to reshape their impressions of this game, forgetting that even Blizzard had issues with deploying content the first 2 years, as they were expanding faster than they could manage. All of these negative thoughts, and expressions tend to guide the weak-minded into believing this is the worse game ever, which it really isn’t.
4. Due to the expansion, and after Colin had left, ANet woke up, and started paying attention to things. They started communicating more. Even Mike O’Brien popped in, and even though he brought bad news, bad news is better than no news. So KUDOS! to that. He was honest. Something ANet often portrays the opposite of.
Things ARE changing, but you have to be patient. Take a break. Go play something else for a few months, because there are plenty of great games out there, that you’ll burn through the content, and be just in time for next update for GW2.
Its that easy. Lets just be happy with what we have, and eagerly await new stuff, without being toxic and judgemental.
Man, lifes too short to go around stressin over stuff like this. Especially with all the bad things happening in the world right now. Be happy that you can log in every night, and burn the day’s stresses away on something. Many people don’t have that ability, and live in an anguish neither you or I can imagine.
I’mma Lu Bu fan, so:
http://www.kittenoftheweek.com/lubu1.jpg
Or something similar. I’d love to see Chinese-inspired armor in game.
I disagree with this thread, because it would nullify the hundreds of dollars i spent on the duplicates for each character. I think a healthy compromise would be to lower the price on subsequent sets of tools.
I lost 6400 gems on copper salvage-o-matics, due to the shared inventory slots. Thats 6400 gems i won’t ever see again, so creating new stuff, to handle things like this, is frustrating.
First of all, i don’t see an issue here. “Old players” had to farm/buy the mats, just as you do now, along with waiting on the daily reset of globs and etc. If you want to complain about something, complain about the changes to leather, and the silk drop rate, because those have changed drastically, since i last had to worry about ascended crafting.
Compared to the gear treadmills of WoW or FFXIV though, its seriously not that bad. I don’t have to raid, in order to get the best gear. Yes, there are time sinks, but that comes with every MMO. What determines if they are correct or not, is how many people who do them, and continue to play. Those who don’t, move on. This is the way of things.
I agree with the OP. As a further example, take a look at FFXIV housing. Sure, its money-driven, more so than earned, but you have a choice in the size of house that your guild gets, which is really nice. If you a large guild with a ton of crafters, you get a huge house. If you are a small, 5 person guild, then you get a small house. My vote would be to give people those choices, instead of one large awesome fits all.
That being said, the existing guild halls are absolutely amazing.
Plus, everything else (except LS3) has been delivered. Moreover, if ANet’s delivery is an issue, how would that change by going to any other system (subscription, DLC, whatever) — if they can’t deliver, isn’t it moot what they offer?
Corrrrrect, but trying to address this more as a time management thing, in order to encapsulate a time frame with a deliverable, in the form of a suggestion.
Instead of trying to create “all the things” at once, focus on specific, all-around content, that can be done in a specific amount of time. Yes, they’ve tried this. Yes, they’ve failed at it. So my best guess is that somewhere along the lines, they’re getting a bit too ambitious, and scrapping large chunks of code, because they later found that the idea sounded good on paper, but then when it came to practical application, it simply took to much time to produce?
But yer right, all in all, it doesn’t matter, and we’ll just have deal with it, or take breaks during the drought, to come back later and enjoy their offerings.
No, birthdays should remain unique to the characters you create. Plus, i love the free dye kit. Its a very welcome perk to playing this game.
Well, i somehow found a way to spend quite a bit in the last 2 weeks. Shared storage, and etc.
Well… There are also many players coming from GW1 who loved the business model (extension / campaign based) and who have really mixed feelings (to be polite) about the gemstore… And in the meantime, the forum is swarmed with people begging for more items to buy for real money who would refuse to pay $30 for an expac (at least that’s what they say, because we all know they will buy the next one
).
The bottom line is… You can’t please everyone. And I’m not sure trying to find some sort of middle ground as Anet does can work. At the end of the day, it’s their choice, not mine or anyone’s on the forum.
I’m aware of that, and i agree.
Its like comic book companies. Back when i followed several different comics in the 90s, the big thing was getting monthly issues of some comics “out” in time to meet that monthly date that they promised to deliver on, was a real hard chore for some companies.
As i got older, i realized the issue was that these companies had hired artists based more so on skill, than on speed. So even though the artist was amazing, it took them 15 extra days to produce the artwork for a comic book, than a lesser artist, who could bang it out in 10.
It made for some of the greatest, and most memorable books, but when you look back at it, you were getting a bi-monthly book, which was supposed to be monthly. In terms of pleasing people, it was the same situation as we see here, with some people happy they get something of quality, and others that complain it wasn’t fast enough.
Dear ANet,
Just curious, but why not make a standard DLC for every x amount of months that contains a 1xLS Season, 1xLegendary, and 1xMap (doesn’t matter which mode). Forget expansions. I don’t think xpacs work for GW2 at this point. I get that the hype train is larger for xpacs (big sales/happy investors), but why not hype the DLCs in their stead? Smaller chunks of work, that have a little bit of everything for everyone. Base it on a 6-8 month rotation. Ideally, if you could break it out on a 6 month rotation, maybe that would keep the people complaining about content at bay? Dunno. Just a thought. To top it off, sell a year’s worth of DLC (2 DLC patches) in a collector’s edition, and make more money.
PS – I still want the beta revnant weapon skins. Again, gem store, or whatever. Doesn’t matter.
Its a site where disgruntled workers vent. Are you happy with your job? I’m not. And i have an easy, work at home job. Point being, is that we know that ANet is not perfect. There are TONS of things they could improve on, but listening to ex-employees who didn’t like working there is no ‘company-health indicator’.
That being said, if you are digging for reasons why to dislike this game or company, be aware that since Colin has left, there have been ALOT of MAJOR improvements with how the company is handling player feedback. Its a really good time to be a fan of this game, and believe me…i could write a book on all the things ANet has done to irk me, in the past.
Grats on all of that! Take a break. Play some other stuff. Keep an eye on updates, and come back when theres more stuff to do. I found that this also helps extremely well, when all you feel like doing is coming to the forums and raging out of control, about the things you don’t like.
I get you love the game, and would prefer to play nothing but the game, so give it a break. You’ll be fresh, and happier to tackle more content if you do.
Just got done completing the Dragon Stand map meta for the first time tonight. Now…that was an awesome dragon fight! I had a really good time with it, but i also liked the lane events, like the big steampunk chick, and the Silverwastes thing.
I don’t care what anyone says, when it comes to building content that motivates and gives a map full of players something all to work on together, ANet delivers in spades. Its very well done.
I just wanna say that i remember this exact conversation in regards to vanilla and wotlk raids. The answer: Well, you learn how to play your class and you learn the encounter well enough to avoid getting downed from being in melee range.
The same applies to most MMO games now. You pick a role, master the role, then you do encounters, and learn to master those encounters.
“It is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles; if you do not know your enemies but do know yourself, you will win one and lose one; if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle.” – Sun Tzu, Art of War, Chapter 3 (Strategic Attack)
I kinda agree. Its the same thing that Blizz did with the PvE and PvP sets. But then, you get people complaining about the WvW sets looking better than the PvP sets, and the complaints start all over again with “Oh, i dunno why i hafta go play a game mode i don’t like for cool armor”. Why don’t you get the armor in the mode you like to play? Because it doesn’t look cool, and/or its a grind. >_<
Anet never promised there would be no grind. They did say there would be no grind for BIS gear. Obviously even that’s questionable with ascended weapons which were meant to be a longer term goal but you absolutely don’t need a legendary weapon. It’s an optional feature.
It’s something put into the game to give people who want to grind, something to work towards. Some people like and need that.
No required grind is very different than no grind. No grind for BIS gear is very different from no grind.
Even ascended, you don’t need them to play the game, except for the highest level fractals.
Wow, i actually agree with Vayne in this thread. One minor disagreement – you kinda do need ascended gear if you are super serious about WvW.
So, no new legendaries – i’m cool with this. However, you featured a set of Mist-weapons, such as the “Mistbreaker” in the HoT beta that came with the Revnants. What happened to this? I think there was a POI where the dev said you guys were working on a release. I figured they’d have either been a gem store thing, or something obtained in game, so where are they???? Again, totally cool if they are gem store skins, but we definitely need these soon.
Fan will say: The game is doing fine. That I laugh.
