No explanation needed, and you have to remember that an MMO is a business. What better hype and fantastic media exposure could there be to a public display of playing the game and demonstrating how a feature works?
In addition, no, this isn’t something that needs to be done 24/7. Play casual: 2hrs a night, 8 hours over the weekend. I’d love to see the two of them square off and see who could complete their build, without the TP!
I like it. But then I also just take my sweet time enjoying all the new content. I’m not concerned about unlocking everything in 1 week like so many GW2 players who now call everything grindy.
The precursor crafting gives me stuff to do end-game for a long time. Isn’t that what we all wanted?
YESSIR! It definitely is! And i totally agree.
I had a thought. As you may know, there has been some criticisms on Precursor crafting. So to bolster the fan’s confidence in the awesome team at Arena Net, i propose they begin an internal competition: See who can create a Precursor the fastest!
Now, i know you’re going to say, “They’re too busy fixing the game and etc”, but this game IS their business, and i think after we see these superb gentleman at their finest, and showing the community how it is done, it will truly lay waste to the myth that precursors are blocked behind paywalls and every other complaint thats been posted here, and on the subreddit.
I propose the following rules for the challenge:
1. Each player gets a level 80 character/class of their choosing
2. Each player gets 50 of each material, excluding ascended and legendary crafting materials
3. Each player has a choice of 2, level 500 crafting skills
4. Each player is blocked from using the Trading Post to acquire materials
5. Each developer will keep an online blog/diary of their happenings that day, or the night after – consider this a way for us to track progress and join in on your achievements!
6. Optional Twitch streaming would be welcome
7. Of course, this would have to be done on a production server, so no ANet tags please! Its important that while you are in-game, you are anonymous to the community at large.
8. Boosters are definitely allowed. However, you must state in the blog/diary if they were used, what you used, and how many you used in a particular game playing session
9. Definitely encourage other developers to tag along with you guys, but again, no tags please.
C’mon guys! I’m callin you out for the health and wealth of a happy Guild Wars 2 community!
VanillexHope, i completely agreeL Less Pet Rocks and drop rate ners, and more cool stuff in the gem store. Give us more to buy, and less nerfing of the goodness that is GW2.
I LOVE PRECURSOR CRAFTING TOO!!!
HIGH FIVE BRO!
Exodius, rock on man! Yes, things are chaotic right now, but with a little bit of positive thinking and a bumper sticker that reads “KEEP ON TRUCKIN!” ain’t no complaint on these forums that are gonna keep a good Charr down!
Keep the faith, man. Just gotta keep doin what we doin, and hope the Almight ANet sees the error in their ways and makes out path even brigher!
whoever thinking of getting The Chosen via precursor crafting needs to think his life over…
After i complete Zap, I. AM. ALL. OVER. THAT!
Aside from the fact that it was supplied broken, I love my new car.
Aside from the fact that my new washing machine / dish washer / whatever, doesn’t complete its cycle & leaves me unfinished / uncleaned / whatever, but wow! It looks really fabulous in my kitchen.
Only in the gaming industry could you release product as dysfunctional as Anet do on every release (NB: Anet are no worse than the vast majority of gaming companies). Only in the gaming world would you get someone telling you how wonderful broken product is…
Well, its that or quit and go play something else. Quite frankly, the market is rather bleak in terms of MMOs just like this one, that has a more rewarding system. So, makin the best of it! Ill just spend my time farmin, and forget all that HoT-business, so that when i do finally get to it, a year or two from now, i’ll be wide-eyed and bushy tailed to enjoy it more!\
Oh, and i’d like to super-seriously thank Mr. John Smith. Without his help on altering the economy in the most wonderful of ways, i might of thought of buying the precursors outright. LOL, what a mess that would have been!
Ok, I’m offering a solution: Make it so that all adjustments can be bought in the gem store as well as by playing the content. This would satisfy most small guilds and offers Anet some profit too…
I wanted to “LOL” at first, but you may be on to something. The price in mats has to be in the thousands. Guilds could hold RL fundraisers at their local K-Mart. Have some kids? Make mo’money! mo’money! mo’money!
Must remember to have the annoying bell that the Salvation Army uses as well. Along with the bell, a terrible Santa Claus outfit, since it tis the season. People will give you money over fist, to shut off that bell. Guaranteed!
Wait, you mean i have to PLAY THE GAME to get mastery track experience!? STOP THE…seriously? You’re over thinking this waaaaaay too much, guy.
Take a step back. Go get a breath of fresh air, pace yourself, and just have fun with it, and stop worrying how long it takes. Is the world ending tomorrow? No. Will the game shut down? No.
Let it go, brother, let it go. Feel free.
Aside from the bugs, it is AWESOME! No, i am not being sarcastic. All the stuff it requires is easy to farm, and the ascended mats only take a few days to make. I LOVE that this is no longer gated behind a HUGE RNG barrer!
Thank you ANet! You rock!!!
Kind of hard for me to take pity on anyone complaining about how much work and expense is involved in getting something that is basically just a glorified skin. If legendaries were superior to ascended weapons stat-wise, I would be a different story. Basically, if you craft a legendary, you are voluntarily doing extra work. Don’t flog yourself and then complain to everyone that it hurts.
Henceforth, let it be known that thou shalt not flog the dolphin!
Seriously, it is what it is. ANet ain’t changin it, so love it or leave it.
Is ok, ANet is “deflating” the economy by doing this. So you should start seeing prices on quartz going down very soon. I also believe everything is perfectly ok, and there is no evil in the world. My box is a big one, and i only look outside when it is nice and sunny, so therefore, it is always nice and sunny!
I hate country music too and yes, jumping ship looks more and more appealing everyday. Has anyone tried out Skyforge? I hear its pretty close to GW1 in terms of layout and structure.
I just hope they bring back the event that has the Lyssa backpiece recipe. I am REALLY wanting that backpiece now, and the 500g paywall isn’t my thing.
Lest you forget in your focus on the salacious aspects of the question, the external organs under discussion are multi-purpose. Reproduction is not their only function. So, unless sylvari never need to visit the restroom, they require some sort of organ for liquid waste elimination. Being modeled on human beings, it would make sense for those organs to resemble those used by humans for that purpose.
Can you imagine how horrible it would be to have a mouth for drinking beer, but have no way to pay the rent on it? Even Mordremoth could not possibly be that cruel to his creations!
Unless they feed via photosynthesis. In addition, the moisture would be absorbed, so they wouldn’t need to “rent on it”. I’m aiming at more towards the plant-side of the physiology.
I am going to vote against what the wiki says. They don’t have a knowledge of kitten or hetro sexuality, so they love whomever they want, regardless of gender, and without a second thought to it. Conflict with that, comes from the organs and chemicals in the body, and since we don’t see any dialogue in game to suggest any issues with ‘who loves who’, i can only assume they don’t have the equipment to get the job done.
That being said, it is entirely possible that they could “grow” the equipment as needed, should the situation arise where they would need it.
We got 3 new armor sets and a BUNCH of class-specific stuff. I am happy with this. Sure, its not much, but its “something”. The combinations are still endless, and i have been buying outfits, and happy with how things turned out this xpac. Just gotta find yer happy place, kids.
So this means we can get rid of the NPE, right? Seems like such a waste if new players will hit the cap, and leave the game after seeing how difficult in-game currency is to obtain.
Balance? Who needs it? Just ban the things you couldn’t test! BRILLIANT! sigh…
The only “paywall” I’ve seen discussed in relation to drops is the price of HoT, due to the dungeon gold nerf and the "better’ rewards being in HoT. So, you’d rather pay $15-20 per month than a one-time fee of $50? And the paywalls are insane?
If the “paywalls” are a perceived need to get gold faster, thus “needing” to buy gold with gems… that’s not a paywall, it’s an “impatience wall.”
No, impatience would be asking to crash the market so we can all buy legendaries for 1600 gems. I do not want that. What i want is the same drop rates on things, as you’d get in a sub’d MMO. Same price. Same value. I don’t mind working for things, but i want a certified, “better bang for my buck”.
At any rate, i think Miko gave me the best idea, so its a dead subject with me now. I’ll plug away at it with heroic boosters.
How is not f2p am I delusional ?
1) the $100 I spent on the expack says it’s not f2p
2) the f2p you’re referring to is much closer to a free to try. An extended trial version with numerous restrictions on trade, chat, where you can go and when, character limit, whispering…. among other restrictions.SWTOR is classified as f2p. It also offers a sub and requires you to pay for expansions.
Don’t fool yourself.
Guild Wars 2 is free to play. Welcome to your cash shop centric game. Enjoy.
I wouldn’t have a problem with this, but i’m not a SWTOR fan.
I think we’re all not on the same page here, as to what the various payment models are for MMOs these days. I don’t have time fully educate:
“Buy to play” is the model used for most games, such as Batman Arkham Asylum, Sonic The Hedgehog, Super Mario Brothers. No cash shop. You just buy the game, and thats it. DLC can be an option, but its a once time purchase for more content.
“Pay to Win” is being able to buy, with RL currency, a level of something in any game, that puts you ahead of the rest of the players, playing the game. A good example of this is ascended crafting in this game: I can pay for all the mats to hit 500 Weaponsmith, then turn around and buy all the parts needed to make an ascended weapon. Granted, you need 5 laurels for the recipe, which means logging in for 30 seconds, after reset, each day.
“Free to play” is a game that is completely free for anyone to download and play the game. No charge at all! But, these types of games always have a cash shop, that allows you to buy cosmetics and boosters.
Now, heres the deal: Look at the competition:
https://www.dcuniverseonline.com/shop/value-bundles
http://www.swtor.com/buy
https://shop.wildstar-online.com/product/signatureMembership
I guess what i am missing is heroic boosters, which would complete all of the above, but wouldn’t it be nice to have an automatic heroic booster running everytime you log into any character on your account, PLUS get some sorta other perk, like 100g? Thats what i’d be interested in seeing.
Why are some people with extra money so hellbent on ruining things for the less fortunate. We were already promised that this will not come into the game outside China.
Because the value per merchandise in this game is extremely skewed.
Compare what you get from a subscription-based MMO, verses a B/P/F2P MMO, and its all there. Not all of us play freely. Nothing against free players, but there needs to be a better value per dollar in this game. I’m not asking for P2W…or at least a more “obvious” P2W system, but maybe item boosters are the answer? I wouldn’t mind that, but still, i think they need to consider varying pay models for the game, so everything isn’t so kitten ed expensive. Thats all i’m saying.
“Whatever happened to the philosophy behind gw2?” = was a sales ploy.
“Do the devs even listen to the community?” only when it hits the major MMO news sites
“borderlands are practically empty and devoid of life.” – Because WvW WAS the endgame. No one is ready for the endgame right now, since we are all “That’s right, more grinding.”
“Have a seat, take a break” – I don’t think anyone wants that. Keep working!
We have a monthly sub. It’s called the gem store. You can pay $15 a month every month if it’ll make you happy.
I was looking for a better package deal. >_>
Anyhow, “optional”, so no, its not required. You can still play the game freely, but for those of us who want a monthly, can reap better rewards.
Also, the game has been P2W for a while now. You can pay tons of money to get your crafting up, and then tons more to get ascended crafting materials, sans the BoA materials that are fairly easy to farm.
Can we getta optional monthly sub, for increased drop rates and rewards? Like $15-20 a month? I know i’d pay for it, but we’d need a “better than prior to the xpac” system in place, to make it worth it.
Right now, the paywalls are insane. Many other F2P MMOs (lets stop kidding ourselves, this game IS F2P), are offering similar services, as to promote a stable, monthly income for itself, while rewarding customers with a better experience.
Since the content has extremely high replay value, i think this is a very solid next step for Arena Net? Can i get some support on this idea???
This thread reminded me of this song (with appropriate modifications):
Today is gonna be the day
That they’re gonna throw it back to you
By now you should’ve somehow
Realized what you gotta do
I don’t believe that anybody
Feels the way I do about you now
Back beat, the word is on the street
That the thorns in your heart is out
I’m sure you’ve heard it all before
But you never really had a doubt
I believe that everybody feels
The way I do about you now
And all the roads we have to walk are grinding
And all the rewards that lead us there are misleading
There are many things that I would
Like to say to you
But I don’t know how
Because maybe
You’re gonna be the one that irks me
And after all
You’re my paywall
Today was gonna be the day
But they’ll never throw it back to you
By now you should’ve somehow
Realized what you’re not to do
I believe that everybody
Feels the way I do
About you now
And all the roads we have to walk are grinding
And all the rewards that lead us there are misleading
There are many things that I would
Like to say to you
But I don’t know how
Because maybe
You’re gonna be the one that irks me
And after all
You’re my paywall
Because maybe
You’re gonna be the one that irks me
And after all
You’re my paywall
I said maybe
You’re gonna be the one that irks me
You’re gonna be the one that irks me
You’re gonna be the one that irks me
or 5 million registered accounts, not subs. Same thing.
- Gold is hard to acquire in this game by design. It’s really the only reason that inflation hasn’t crushed the market.
I know it is John Smith’s current “belief”, but i disagree with his “beliefs”. Increase drop rates on everything, and don’t worry about the gold. The market will be flooded with materials, which will drive the price down.
What happens after that? Well, people will be complaining that they have no content.
What does this mean for ANet? They need to get better at EVERYTHING, along with faster. Look, i know we all think ANet is this little, small-time developer with hardly the resources to keep things afloat, and we’d all like to just give them all of our cash, because its in the interest of our hobby. The truth of this, is that they 5 million subs, and gem store sales are amazing, when they do their jobs and create stuff people will buy.
And i’ve said this a 100 times in various places, but it ANet doesn’t “get” what i’m saying, above, then someone will come along and do it, and take their playerbase away. Its that simple.
For those of you complaining that you are going to quit, just keep an open mind available, for when the competition builds a better mousetrap.
WoW was the best MMO for its time, and i believe the successor of that formula was FFXIV, who have mastered the formula that Blizzard created. If you want a gear treadmill, FFXIV is the best MMO out there.
GW2 is the current “WoW” due to the innovate things it is doing. But the difference here, is that as soon as another publisher re-skins GW2 completely, adds better drop rates on things (aka, makes the time to acquire fetch items much shorter), and includes either a sub, or a better F2P store, GW2 is done.
What will keep this genre alive, is addressing both the “MMO” aspect and the “RPG” at the same time, which GW2 has done.
WoW, and FFXIV, have centered their game around the RPG aspect, more so that the MMO aspect. The need for social participation is just missing from those games now. Sure, there are raids, but the level of involvement past that means you’re paying to play a single player RPG.
Blizzard did a great job of using other MMORPG mechanics and strategies from other MMOs, to build WoW. From there, it rested on its laurels, and tried to cater to the foundation it had built, along with some very bad design decisions. If Blizzard re-evaluated the market, and started pulling ideas from GW2, I believe alot of us would be discussing this on the WoW forums right now.
Its like this: In every MMO, you have “Flavor of the Month” classes. Warrior hit their peak about a year ago, and were really good at everything, and then Healing Signet nerfs, and 100b nerfs, and well. The Warrior has a bit of kitten for dev, so when ya add that altogether, its not surprising things have gone south. BUT, on the bright side, we do play multiple classes, and can hope to whatever the FotM currently is. Thats like MMORPG 101. I don’t agree with it, but its just how these things work.
To those of you making warrior a go in the new HoT areas, my hat is off to you. Great job guys!
Well, xpac hype is over. Now begins the The Great Age of Complaining.
Step1: Take out Credit Card
Step 2: Open Gem Store
Step 3: Buy gems, using Credit Card
Step 4: Go to the Gem-To-Gold Transfer
Step 5: Buy as much gold with the gems you have (OH! And don’t worry about that last 8-5 gems that you can’t convert to gold – Thats called “Salami Slicing”, and you’ll end up spending it someday, right? Riiiiiiiiight….)
Now, Fun Facts!:
*Average American Middle Class Pay: $20 an hour
*Thats 1600 Gems per hour
*Thats around 180 gold
*If you have a RL job, and you work 8 hours a day, you can make up to (180×8) 1440 GOLD!!!
Or, you could just play the game for 8 hours and possibly end up with 8-10 gold, but who wants to do that? Just buy gems. It makes ANet happy. And welcome to the F2P model.
Same here. I am also a member of a small TC guild that is requesting assistance with guild hall claiming. I would also be interested in joining any alliance for PvE purposes, such as raiding, when it becomes available. I can be found on TC’s Mumble server, under the [SOG] channel. If you have access, please drop down and say hi. We’d welcome the assistance!
If you really look at the precursor crafting, and look back to before they announced precursor crafting, you’ll notice that the precursors were all selling well above 500g, aside from the underwater weapons, and some of the less desirable off hand weapons that no one uses. More to the point: They were selling for around the same amount, in materials, that it roughly costs to do precursor crafting.
Now, whether the price has dropped or raised since, is of no consequence. They basically “took” the RNG out of the equation, but made sure that the value was the same, prior to the announcement.
Granted, its not a ‘legendary adventure’ they had advertised it to be, but to be honest, who doesn’t false advertise these days? And without there being substantial proof of this or that, it’ll never hold up in a court of law. Can you say, with a straight face, that you are suing a video game company for not making the task of creating an in-game item, the same as was advertised? lol
If you haven’t caught on to how ANet plays this game: Everything is driven by the cash to gem conversion. This is why 90% of gathering materials are not “bind on account”. So, you either gotta expect less and be astonished at the little things, or just stick out until someone does it better (which, they will).
Until that point though, i want to ENJOY what is here, and not look at it like a grind, or some massive involvement of gems to gold.
(edited by slamfunction.7462)
+1 – This should DEFINITELY become the meta for all things “Warrior”!!!
Can we get an official YOLO GunFlame, “Shoot Heroes Into Tomorrow” Build. I’d seriously run it.
To those of you saying this is a “grind”: Its only a “grind” if you make it a grind. Those of us who don’t have issues with the precursor crafting, are grabbing a group of friends, going to a map, and having a blast chaining events together for T6 mats, and gathering along the way.
My point: If you can’t make it fun, then just don’t do it. Its not like some serious requirement in the game, that is a fun-breaking feature.
Go play WoW. They give you epics just for logging in. How fullfilling is that? Did you earn it? Not really. Was it a journey you undertook? Not really. See where i’m getting at with this? LEGENDARIES were made to note the time and effort someone put forth to go out and craft and/or the crazy amount of money they spent in gem to gold transactions, to purchase one outright. Its prestige to have one, so it HAS to have some sort of challenge or time barrier to building it.
I know that reading comprehension is hard, so I’m going to try to spell this out as clearly as possible.
This thread isn’t about people complaining that precursor crafting is challenging. This point is very important, so I’m going to add another paragraph and suggest that you reread this one a few times.
This thread is saying that the “new” system isn’t a “Legendary Journey” at all. It is the same old system, it’s just that the old currency (gold) is disguised as materials.
And this is the last time in this thread that I’m going to try to explain this.
Its a lost point, dependent on point of view. Thus, why you are having issues with getting your point across. “Legendary journey” means what? Did they specifically define it, in great detail? No, they gave vague details. If you are going to point out a fault here, its that ANet did not expressly outline the fine print details of the feature. This is a golden standard for ANet, as they try to avoid discussing paywalls and the such. Is it a BIG, game-shattering issue that is going to make most people quit? Nope.
What i was addressing here, was the fact that people keep calling it a “grind”. Again, this is purely “User perception”. Eating a cake could be a grind. Sleeping for 8 hours could be a grind. Anything, can be a "grind’. However, this is a game, and as such, no one is forcing your hand to play it, and make decisions on doing whatever content. Thus, by calling precursor crafting a grind, it means that you’ve grown a perception of the feature, that is both incorrect, and negative.
Some people called WoW’s LFR a “Grind”, when they could spend 45 minutes into a raid, and get 2-3 epics.
Its all perception, and I, for one, UTTERLY REFUSE to believe the feature is a “grind”.
Even Rytlock rerolled.
I think ANet was trying to tell us something, here.
For future note: Whenever a main story character switches classes, we need to be doing the same.
To the OP: Yeah, i dropped warrior. He only does flax farming now. However, i wanna try this “YOLO Gun Flame” build that i’m hearing so much about.

After you receive that reward, the system will randomly pick an item from the list of potential rewards, with the higher up items having a higher chance of being selected.
There’s no randomness in the Map Rewards, it’s set up exactly like a PvP Reward Track, except only the next reward is ever visible in the game. There are forty rewards available in each map. Larger prizes await at the 20th and 40th reward, which will each be 10x the primary reward. So using Straits of Devastation as an example, your 20th Map Reward will be 10x Vicious Claws. By the time you’ve reached that reward, you will also have received 3 Charged Cores and 2 Charged Lodestones as earlier rewards.
Proceeding onwards from there, the 21st to 40th Map Reward, Charged Cores get dropped entirely from the reward lists, instead with 5 Charged Lodestones taking their place.
The only thing I’m not sure of still is exactly how the rotation on the maps will work. Will your progress be saved for eight weeks later when the original rewards return on a given map? Or will you carry over your position to the newly rotated reward track once it comes in? We’ll find out when a rotation happens, I guess!
So then, what is the mechanism used to keep track? For example, i have PvP reward tracks, and a UI that tracks my progress in each one. If i do a PvP match, i get progress on whatever track i have active, and i can leave the mists to go do whatever, come back to it a week from that last PvP match and pick up where i left off.
Does this mean that you have to stay logged into the map, on the same character to do the 40 events or whatever?
I’m not complaining. I totally dig what they did here, but i’d like some sort of idea on how it works, so i can plan my play time to go after certain rewards.
Yay…another one of these threads. Yes, farming is hard. Keep spending time complaining about it, instead of just playing the game and gathering the items you need. Talk about “productive”! /sarcasm
No.
Go further in progress, not stay behind. The Yes people are just out of their comfort zone, don’t want to adept nor find new strategy. Give them a wide open field with nothing and they might like it.
They should have changed EB too, so people will take their time to learn and play it.
No. I completely agree with the above comment.
All they need to do is add synergy to the trait lines, so that we have clear paths to PvE, WvW, and PvP builds that flow and work correctly, while allowing us to pick up and enjoy our elite spec. If they did that, Warrior would be peachy keen.
You see? They complain when it is locked behind RNG, and now they complain its too hard to make. Theres just no pleasing some people. Sad…
Its always been my understanding that you can kill humanoid mobs for bags that drop either the tier of leather or cloth that is respective to the level of the mob itself. For example, if i need linen cloth, i can kill Flame Legion Charr in Iron Marshes.
Then, i read somewhere that it is against ANet terms that we farm. So therein lies a problem: If we don’t want to spend vast amounts of cash for gems, to convert them to gold, and buy the mats we need, then how do we obtain the materials we need to craft with?
Do you farm? Are drop rates “good” when you farm?
I am psyched to get started on these, and ignoring all the negative criticism, but trying to get through the Halloween and HoT stuffs first, before i begin down the long, long path of precursor crafting. At any rate, i am stoked that i will have a TON of things to do, later on down the road, and even more psyched about the zone rewards on events, which will make farming things up a snap. Now, i just need to figure out how to farm T3-T4 mats reliably….
Yeah, Warrior is done. Re-rolled a Revenant and loving it. I hope they fix Warrior in the next few years. I dig what they did, but there is simply no synergy between traits and stats right now, unless you completely ignore the elite trait line.
