Couple things:
- You can’t demand raid attendance. People will ultimately leave your guild, if they can’t come and go as they please. Plus, your raid nights might not work out for everyone. They might be able to make 1-2, but not 2-3.
- Stop server hopping. Yeah, yer lookin for fights, but if your goal is to hop servers every 1-2 months, then people who joined your guild, who are dedicated to the server they play on, aren’t going to want to stick with you
- Its all about the dailies. Not everyone plays for the gratification of smashing n00bs to the ground. Each player has goals; get stuff, have fun, etc. If you are all about the fights, and nothing but the fights, then those people who want their dailies, while working with your WvW raid, are just going to step out, roam for the their WvW dailies, and move on.
- Fight guilds need to be more pronounce about their intentions. If all they do is fight, then your comments to new recruits and etc should be, “You won’t get many in-game resources from raiding with us, but you might possibly get alot of bags, if we do well…and of course, if we aren’t getting repeatedly destroyed by raids twice our size…which does happen quite frequently.” I’m sure there is just as many people who would not join you, once this realization is made.
Dailies, and reward track bonuses. The rest isn’t worth it.
If you fight hard with your server, you’ll get to a stale tier, where you get destroyed every night.
If you fight hard with your guild, they’ll eventually get destroyed everynight, or start server-hopping to find the “best fights”.
If you happen to get past all that, and don’t move to Blobgate, then you will be farmed by Blobgate.
These are the facts, whether you agree or not.
Couple things:
1. You’re beating on broken server (TC) and fighting pugs, who aren’t using voice comms (what you’re seeing there, in EB)
2. The pugs on TCBL have apparently steamrolled you everynight, for about the last 2 weeks
Please, do continue. The higher tiers will break your server, and your guild, and you’ll end up on Blobgate, like all the rest. gg
@Anet: So far, so good. The PvE game is in a good place right now. It feels like you guys are doing a really good job here. Also, thank you!
TC is the premiere 2v1 server. We are hated, and often 2 teamed, because thats just how it is. Despite this adversity, TC is always in the top 2 tiers, usually bumping up to T1 every so often.
If you like solo roaming, join a very low tier. If you like organized groups, utilizing voice chat, and structure, then ask in WvW general chat if any WvW guilds are recruiting. They’ll point you to the community site, where most anyone will help you find a guild.
Word of note though, stay ignorant, and just have fun. Realizing the bigger picture will only widen your eyes to the orwellian nature of the community at large.
Stuns, knock downs, fears – unacceptable.
Slows, when traversing a zone without mounts – unacceptable.
More mobs (w/Slows) packed into an area that you must traverse, and would die if tried to clear – unacceptable.
Conditions, without enough tools to remove them, while playing solo, and without sacrificing abilities needed to DPS – unacceptable.
These were my thoughts on the new zone. Otherwise, the tree areas were absolutely stunning.
On second thought, regardless of all the “bad” that you have to go through to get it, this armor is purely amazing. The team behind this – the specific animators and artist – Man…you guys you need to take a serious bow over this. Not even Blizzard or SE has made anything close to this. They’ve animated shoulders and belts before, but the way this set just organically transforms, is a modern marvel to MMOs (much like the legendary weapons, might I add).
People are going to hate it, but i think you’ll find alot more who love it, and will enjoy it. Super huge grats to all you raiders who are working towards this.
Yeah, definitely 10/10 in the “looks” dept. Its awesome. However, no matter how awesome it is, the amount of time and money spent to get it = you could probably buy a RL sports car with the money you are putting in….not to mention the stress of that much raiding….in GW2…yeah…
Now, when i say “money”: Take the time you’d spend doing the raids, preparing for the raids, handling all the nuance to the raids. Then, count those hours at $20 a piece. Next, take the time spent farming the non-raid components (keep in mind that due to DR, you’re gonna hafta have at least 3-4 toons leveled up for the task- might as well count this time too!), do the same, or do a round figure on the gem-to-gold transactions you’d do, to buy those mats off the TP.
Do you have to have a max-level crafter (or multiple crafters)? Might as well add that up too!
Finally, add all that up. How much is it?
I currently have my install directory set to the defualt – C:\Program FIles (x86)\Guild Wars 2.
Can i move this directory over to another hard drive, and still run it, after recreating a shortcut to the executable?
Good Evening (Morning, for some) Folks!
After the last word from ANet, disbanding the heinous offender (or offenders) of insider trading, it appears we have a contender! Today brings us news of an individual or group individuals who has recently dropped 30k gold on Plastic Fangs.
The original subreddit post can be found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/56n7ct/plastic_fangs_30k_gold_idiotic_speculation_or/
30k gold is quite the commitment. It could be a very risky speculation on the buyer’s part, or it could be Plastic Fangs will have some value, come the Halloween patch, which brings us the Halloween events. Or, as some of the naysayers will point out: It could just be that someone REALLY likes Plastic Fangs.
Either way, we’ll see what develops in the next week or two. I’d like for those of you to care, to please put this on your radar, as we continue to enjoy this ongoing struggle to bring morally correct business practices to the game of Guild Wars 2.
It’d be nice, but dwarves in this game are just ugly. They didn’t do dwarves right. Plus, GW fans are more wanting tengu as a playable race.
Silk says “HAI!”…
Yeah, i agree, its another fine mess. Either way, by taking the stance that they did, it creates revenue in the gem-to-gold arena, so its a win/win…Just not to those that don’t make big enough paychecks to afford the gems.
When they said that, i wonder if they meant for us to begin tracking down the perpetrators of lavish T6 leather hoarding, and put them on the spot by name? rofl
Not much time to play tonight, but one thing that i found, right out of the gate, was that the effort/reward ratio on skins and heart vendor stuff seemed wicked steep. I’m assuming this is due to the new legendary mace.
LAST Update (hopefully!): https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/53plre/rising_flames_devs_here_ask_us_anything/d7v4uu6
“Here’s an update on insider trading. Since July we removed some alpha testers and an influencer who abused their early access to content to generate profit for themselves or others.
We have a small, dedicated group of core alpha testers who help us test Living World episodes. They’re overwhelmingly trustworthy. But we recognize that it only takes one abusive alpha tester to make it all feel very unfair to those players who aren’t in the alpha test program. We’ve been ramping up other forms of testing, including internal testing and Live beta testing of WvW updates. But we’re not going to undermine our ability to put out great content releases. Content is still our top priority.
Today’s release has new uses for 16 existing items. We tracked their prices and were ready to hold the release, even this morning, to change recipes if any of the 16 experienced a price spike prior to launch. None did.
Mo"
THIS, is what i was looking for. Some update. Some news. Some SOMETHING!
I’d criticize the time it took for the reply, but hey, this is above and beyond, better than nothing. THANKS MO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To the moderators: Thread can be closed. Issue has been resolved. Please note: We will be watching…
It makes sense. WoW’s Legion expansion actually turned out REALLY good, so they are feeling some heat from that. Over the last 2 weeks, i’ve noticed my community of players suddenly go dormant, thus one does have to wonder what happened there.
A new zone, and a new legendary appears to be ANet’s answer to WoW’s latest xpac, and i believe FFXIV is ramping up to release some new content any day now, as well.
Gotta love what competition does to drive these companies to do their best!
On the other hand, that one dev looks like he should be in Powerman 5000. If so, this could be the reason why his image of “metal” is slightly skewed.
Just sayin. Dudes are advertisin that the new map is “metal”. The skulls and fire, yes. Karka, no. If you wanted “metal”, should gone for undead, demons, or dragons (dragons are more 80s metal, nowadays).
Honestly, i’m just at a loss as to why there hasn’t been any response or updates from ANet. Ah well, i shall remain updating this thread until they lock it or respond. Until that time, if you need any proof or otherwise, of what is going on here, just read the previous 4 pages.
So then this happened:
Update: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/52evcg/tp_watch_for_next_ls_episode/
This reads to me as “ANet isn’t going to police or respond to the claims and admitting of insider trading, so the community will have to do it, itself.”
Kudos to the folks taking that thread seriously, and trying to do something about this.
The thing is I don’t see a huge crowd with pitchforks upset about this, just a few who are out for blood for a perceived wrong to them, which is they didn’t get a chance to profit off of it.
Actually, quite the opposite, had you bothered to read the entire thread. I benefited from it, when the Halloween 2013 skins dropped drastically in price. I had 5 ascended sets already done and created prior to posting, and 2 legendaries crafted. I wasn’t burnt by the market, nor am i out for blood.
As i’ve stated previously, and as i believe currently, i simply want to see the release of market-affecting information provided to ALL players at the same time, instead of the info being given to the promoters first, and then 2-4 weeks later, the rest of the playerbase. More importantly, i want all these ‘shady’ practices that ANet does, to simply stop.
Oh, I’ve read the entire thread here and Reddit. My points are still the following.
- Yes, people shouldn’t take advantage of information they gleaned from getting the patch notes or test server access before a change that will affect one or more items on the TP method of supply or usefulness in a significant way.
- There is no way to stop such information from “leaking”. As The Pierces say in their song, “Two can keep a secret if one of them is dead”. Developers talk and they may disclose something they worked on months ago, forgetting it hadn’t gone live yet.
- ANet grants access to their media partners days before it goes live and simply NOT having the exact client/server software running on test is madness. And while ANet can sanitize early preview patch notes, doing the same to the test server is asking for an oops. Balls get dropped all the time, that’s why we get multiple patches on patch day.
- Expending the manpower to hunt down and punish the culprits is problematic. There is no way ANet would sanction a major MMO news site, game reviewer, streamer/YouTuber or owner of a popular player resource. It would be shooting themselves in their own foot. ANet needs goodwill from them and making a large site their enemy wouldn’t help the game at all. Therefore sanctioning the “little guy” is then problematic because then “justice” isn’t being mete out fairly to all guilty parties.
- NCSOFT still owns ANet (although slightly more indirectly). They may consider this as acceptable quid pro quo for “free” advertising. So it’s possible that “corporate” is preventing/discouraging any action, not wanting any retribution blow back onto their other games.
- Unless a player notices the drop in supply or price in the days leading up to a patch, most will be unaware as the market will still settle at the new price points no matter when the info becomes known. An item will still be more expensive or their hoard will be worth noticeably less a day out from patch day.
In the end this topic, while legitimate, is a tempest in a teapot. ANet simply won’t expend any significant manpower to track down the “culprits” or future proof their pre-patch day access with a custom build. All they can do is issue a strong reminder not to and maybe cut off the next preview from EVERYONE.
They don’t have to track anyone down, or give out bans. All they gotta do is release the patch notes to the public, at the same time that they are given to their “media partners”.
Thats it. It requires Arena Net to do the most crippling thing they have been unable to do up until this point: Effectively communicate to their audience, at the right time.
EDIT: The rest of your comments are a cross of fandom brainwashing, and making excuses for a company not bold enough to create their own.

Lets get to the real issue – there is no market you can invest in and profit heavily from that ANet won’t eventually deliberately destroy.
The system, by design and active shepherding requires agility. They want market barons moving on to new content just as much as any other segment of the playerbase.
If you sit on it, you will lose it. Simple as that.
Tell that to the people who sell Silk: http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/19747
“Market agility” would require the price to dip every few months between 1 silver and 3 silver. However, we are stuck at 2s 15c to 2s 50c.
The market works like this: We have standard prices set on things as they come out, based on supply/rarity/demand/etkittenil ANet creates content that makes that item more common. Then, the price slightly decreases, and if its more common that common, it the price dumps.
However, if ANet later fixes the “more common than common” item, and makes it much more rarer, or many more of that item is needed to craft ‘fetch’ items, then the price shortly skyrockets, pre-patch, where the item change is made. I could see a few analysts taking a guess and skyrocketing their prices, but this would be long before the patch notes hit. Instead, we see that drastic increase the day or two, RIGHT before the patch, as the insiders begin flipping those items.
The resolution isn’t to ban the insiders, but simply release the patch information to the public, right as the insiders get the information with a very big and broad (THIS CHANGES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE AND MAY OR MAY NOT BE IN THE FINAL RELEASE OF THE PATCH).
There is a clear and obvious reason why other, larger MMO companies do PTRs and release pre-patch notes before the patch goes live. You may try to weasel out a debate against it, but in all fairness, what we have now is creating that formidable line of haves and have nots. And according to Crilt up there, its ‘payment due’ for all the time that the insiders put into the game to make people play it.
I’ve chatted with various guildies on this, and found that to a larger extent, all of this really doesn’t affect your every day gamer, as they simply don’t care, as they don’t watch the market closely enough. On that some note, many of these players don’t ‘invest’ a rather larger amount of RL currency into the game, so why would they care if a potato costs 2s today, and 1g tomorrow? Its all the same to them. Thats why we have people coming in her to debate this. They think we are being entitled, because it really has no impact on their gameplay. So, ANet is going to keep doing what ANet does, ignoring this thread (unless its to lock it), while things proceed as they always have.
EDIT: Pardon my mispellings. This forum window is waaaay too small.

Another week, and another request for an update (Plus, a little news): https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/51cgty/stabilizing_matrices_and_insider_trading/
In addition, this week brings to light a comment that Crilt has made, in regards to this. “Crilt” is essentially Dulfy’s BFF, and probably doesn’t speak for Dulfy, but it does put things into quite a larger perspective as to why this is happening:
“There is a lot of hate about “insider trading” going on at the moment. What you guys need to realize is that it’s not necessarily a bad thing. Look at it this way. You love Guild Wars 2. You want people to play with. You don’t want an empty game with no new content. This is where promotions comes in. Now, ArenaNet can promote their own game and they do through various advertizing structures. But players can also promote the game and sometimes more effectively through websites (e.g Dulfy) youtube channels and streamers. Some of us promoters are bringing in thousands of new players each year. This translates to more content and bodies for you to interact with. We don’t get paid for doing this, at least not in dollars. What we do get is opportunities to gain more in game currency than the majority of the playerbase. So we get a bit more gold than you and your friends. “But that’s not fair!” I hear you cry. “Why should some people have secret information and get an advantage in game because of it?” Because, ladies and gentlemen, we WORK HARD to make the game better for you. Some promoters are effectively doing a full time job for free. You begrudge us some in game currency? Don’t you think that’s kinda mean? In addition most promoters are very generous people who share the wealth with their friends, guilds and new players. We’re not just greedy scrooges hiding in ivory towers sneering at the community. We put what we get back into the community. I hope this post gave you a new perspective on “insider trading” and maybe the witch hunt can finally end. Crilt"
The quote comes from this week’s reddit.
To play devil’s advocate, i can see the argument he is raising here. ‘We all do so much work in bringing players in the game, so therefore we are afforded the ability to do insider trading." Ok, i can see that. But here is the thing, you spend all this time, bringing in new players, to turn around and pull the wool down on them, while you make hundreds or thousands of gold, that they are struggling to handle, so that they can upgrade gear, and experience all parts of the game? That doesn’t quite make any sense to me, and aside from the people too much in love with the game to admit, its down right bad.
If you are going to dump time into promoting the game, with the knowledge that you aren’t getting paid for it, then why expect something for doing it? Are you not doing it as a love for the hobby or franchise? If i go to McDonald’s and start washing windows, am i supposed to expect free food? Or do i just feel entitled to steal it from the patrons?
Wrongs and bads all around here, folks! I appreciate the time that the promoters, like Dulfy, put into the game, but at the same time, if its such a full time gig with no pay, then by all means, take care of yourselves first, without causing negative effects on the hobby you enjoy.
Either way, we are productively getting somewhere now, with this recent info. We know that the insider trading is coming from unpaid promoters who are privy to the game info, prior to release. Whats worse, is that since they are freely advertising Arena Net’s product, its highly unlikely we’ll see any further news and resolutions on this.
Unfortunate, but yet another example of Arena Net’s more shadier business practices.
Cancel. I got it. It was a bugged map, where the turrets didn’t come up correctly. Second time i’ve ran into a bugged map on these. The first, was that drakes egg event for Nevermore..spent most the day, trying to get a different map.
Ya know, it would super duper wicked smart, if you guys would add a “change map IP” button somewhere….
Been jumpin around Spekk’s lab all day. Them turrets in the middle of this little area – they ain’t doing anything. I killed the golems 3-4 times, and no dice. I tried other areas along the way, and the turrets are vastly asleep.
Guess i ain’t getting the precursor today. GG Anet!
I find Mystic Coins fairly easy to come by. I just flip out my wallet, grab the CC, purchase gems, convert them to gold, and then buy them off the TP. EASY!
You mean, “acquiring them in-game?” LMAO….YOU FUNNEH! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I mean, c’mon man…ANet has got to make money somewhere, since leather and cloth are a bit more easier to get now…well, at least the fans would like to think so. For the rest of us: GtG is the way to be! Oh, thats a conspiracy theory cause “Chris Cleary said”? Right. Gotcha. Silly me. However, watch as they do nothing to alleviate the issue. Why fix an issue, if it ain’t issue? Sounds a bit like the “Don’t ask. Don’t tell” theory, to me.
It seems like most of the hammer skins in game, are just tiny. The Pheonix skin, and the Juggernaut (kinda – Jugg’s head could be alot bigger imo) are the right size, and the rest are just kinda…tiny. Literally, they’d make better mace skins for the most part. Speaking of maces skins..same thing. Only a handful of really decently sized, meaty maces.
If you like playing Charr or Norn characters, the last thing ya wanna have is a tiny hammer. I know i don’t. The smaller ones are great for Asura/Human/Sylvari, but we need some real BIG, MANLY hammers…like, a shaft as long as a staff.
You guys are great at big, vibrant greatswords, but those hammers…
Gift of Battle took me 2 weeks to get, playing WvW SUPER casually. Like maybe 30-40 minutes a night. On the other hand, Gift of Maguuma took me 4-6 months, and this was trying to map the zones, get help with the HPs, do the metas, and etc, etc 5 nights a week at 2+ hours. I would say that ANet is definitely giving us the better deal of the Gift of Battle. lol
The user who is updating the Reddit threads on this issue has refreshed his request: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/503j3c/stabilizing_matrices_and_insider_trading/
Doing the same here. Please be aware that aside from John Smith’s comments in this thread, and Isiah Cartwright stating that he’d look into it, over a month ago, we still haven’t received any updates.
If an ANet employee is tracking this thread, please escalate the issue, and let us know that this is still being actively worked on. Thank you.
Bought character slots, shared slots, other stuff, keys…yeah, this anniversary wrecked my bank account. However, I HAZ SO MUCH MORE STUFF TO PLAY WITH NOW! YAAAAAAAY!!!!
Despite all the issues and bad choices, your success rate at creating an enjoyable product is much appreciated. Keep at it, and get better! Thanks!
Ok so the idea is simple, reserve a server for a beta environments and allow people to test out the updates you want to bring out. Whether it be balance updates or game changing updates, put it on the test server first. Then people can make blogs/fansites with news of what is on the testing environment so that the community as a whole can voice their opinions on balance changes and therefore you can make a balance change and revert it without looking like you’re stupid. Also if an update brings a bug (like the one that cost us a day yesterday) it can be spotted on the test server environment and therefore fixed.
I completely agree with this. It would also kill the “insider trading” issues that the game has. Granted, we’d all get an idea of what to expect before go live, but everyone else is doing it, so why not ANet?
Not enough resources? Servers don’t cost that much. Especially for a company throwing 200-400 THOUSAND dollars at eSport rewards (if not more, in some cases).
Lets logic that a bit: If a patch comes out and crashes servers, this means no sPvP arenas open. If no sPvP arenas open, then no eSports can happen. See how that works? Its all about the priorities, kids.
ANet, stop being so mysterious. You might think its cool, but seriously, really isn’kittens hurting your company, every time something like this happens.
You might think “But we’re not like other companies! We are innovating!” YES! You are, in-game, you’re doing great. Organization and management-wise, you are doing horrible. There is a REALLY good reason why other gaming companies, especially MMO companies, have test servers open to, or a portion of the public. There is a reason why everything is known, before it goes live.
I think this thread is dumb. Can’t we focus our “internet complaint” powers on something more productive, such as ‘insider training’, ‘outfits’, and etc?
Well RIP most of my dailies… At least I did home instance gather last night…
Game’s been down for way too long. I think at this point some sort of compensation for both the losses in progress and the very long downtime would be right. Even something small.
A reminder. You don’t own your account. Arena net owns it and allows you to use it. Everything is theirs and any progress is their property.
That is true. However, PR wise it would be bad to let too much time go by without giving something in return to players.
I don’t think we’ve crossed that time point yet, however.
We’ve crossed that time point. Arena net needs to send me my 2 gold and 10AP.
I agree. If the servers are down for another yet, just send up 10AP and 2g, and we’ll call it “good”.
Edit, actually, if you could hook us up with WvW/PvP reward track boosts, and Tomes of Knowledge, that would be awesome. Just the amount we would have recieved, had we been playing.
I like how they did the light and medium armor sets. I think the heavy could have been done better, but meh. Its nice. I like it.
This, but discounted:
BLTC Keys
Character slots
Shared Inventory slots
Ok, so let me get this straight, you can only ever obtain 15000 AP from doing dailes, before the dailies AP is capped?
So this means that if i never did any other achievements, got to my 15000 AP mark, i could then do the regular achievements like slayer, story achievements, and etc to go beyond 15000 AP? Is this right?
Yes. If you hover up over your AP counter, you will see a popup with AP split per sources: Permanent, Daily and Monthly. Daily and Monthly total is capped to 15000 AP (together, not separately), while Permanent counter is uncapped (limited only by the number of available achievements).
Thanks! I just noticed that i have another 7200 left on mine, then.
As to Ethan’s argument (now that i understand the issue better): If i had to guess, i would guess that the reason why the limit is there, is so that they don’t have to develop another 20-40k worth of achievement rewards. I also tend to believe this’ll be something gated behind xpacs at a later date. Until then, i think they yeah, this current rule kinda blews the goats.

I’m confused. You only get 10 ‘daily’ achievement points per day, regardless if you do the minimum of 3 daily tasks, or all 12. 10 points per day times 30 days per month is 300 points total.
Are you saying you can grind out over 14,700 achievement points in addition, every month?
They delivered on precursor crafting. Granted, it took a while, but i like how they implemented it.
That being said, i really don’t think that I personally need anymore legendaries for the time being, as I have ALOT to craft already. Enough to carry me to the next xpac, and possibly beyond, so if it take them a year to create and implement new ones, im cool with that.
As far as what they say and do, and their business practices: I’ve been able to cope with it by understanding that there really is two different teams working in this game. One is the “Dr. Jekyll Team” that consists of the artist, programmers, musicians, and the generally creative folks. The “Mr Hyde Team” is marking, management, and the business side of things.
We all like the “Dr. Jekyll Team”, and rarely do we have ever complain about what they are doing. On the other hand, the “Mr Hyde Team” is the living incarnation of an incompetent ‘satan’ sort of evil. I’d like to believe that out of the evil, at least 50% of sheer ignorance, and the other 50% is just poorly trained/experienced/educated management.
Fortunately (and the reason why we all still love to play), the Dr Jekyll Team is pretty downright amazing, even when being held back by the likes of the evil Mr Hyde Team.
This game cuts a pretty fine line in the P2W schema. Getting highest tier stats means crafting. Crafting requires lots of materials that can be bought with gold on the TP, so you can literally, buy yourself to that point. However, you still have to play the game to get the stuff to make the vision crystals.
Ascended gear is for fractals, and gives a moderate boost in WvW and open world via WvW infusions, as small as they are. However, if you nitpick, one could say it is “F2P”.
Its not a bad thing. It generates profit for them to do more for us, so for paying customers, its a win/win.
Update: There has been another Reddit posting on the issue, requesting an update from Arena Net: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/4yilpb/stabilizing_matrices_and_insider_trading/
I’d honestly like to see them make the announcement, and then deliver on, releasing new 4-5 new legendaries, with precursor journeys, each xpac.
It take quite a long time to craft the precursor up, much less the actual legendary, so it would work.
The old system was bad. Depending on RNG for something that could be an epic journey instead, was just kinda boring and anger inciting.
I disagree. I’m completely happy with the tools, as they are currently setup.
Without a lick of insider information you’d see a very similar overall price change – the price of apples, in this example, would be 1c up until the patch hits, with it shooting up to 1g (probably well past it, then settling down to 1g) within minutes, if not seconds, of the patch and patch notes going live. You still would have sold your apples for 1c, and still would see them at 1g after the patch. Someone trading on inside information does nothing to you.
Correct, so here is the thing: The day after i sold my apples, but one week prior to the patch dropping, the applies go to 1g, for no apparent reason. We didn’t get any notice as to why. How do i know the people buying out the 1 copper apples aren’t buying them in mass, right before 7 days prior to the patch, and relisting them at 1g a piece?
You see now?
Again, people who are buddies, media partners, whatever are getting a market advantage on everyday players, who aren’t “in the know”.
Let me clarify one more thing: If this was WoW, or FFXIV, or any other monthly sub game, there would be no harm, no foul, because in those games, currency farming is far more easier for a casual player. Plus, they have test servers and pre-patch notes out the wah-zoo to give people more than enough notice on what things are changing. ANet intentionally holds just about everything until its released, because as they state ‘they don’t want to ship something that isn’t done’ or ‘they don’t want to make promises they may not deliver on’. I think its more than that, in how the market plays out. Just look at Revnants in WvW or their underwater skills. What happened there? Why wasn’t that addressed before it shipped, amongst other things?
GW2 on the other hand: It has gotten better, but ANet’s bread and butter is still gem-to-gold transactions. Its why leather, cloth, and T6 materials are so “fetch” for most people. (Note: Some people can farm these fairly quickly, but this is a smaller niche than what you would think).
That being said, we now have a real life monetary component in this, almost a RL stock market, where people are investing their cash into the economy, to get the virtual goods they want. And, now apply insider trading, that drives up the price right before a path, and BOOM!, you have an unfair advantage that is affecting people’s RL wallets.
Either way, i’m done posting here for now. I’ll update this thread again, when another incident occurs on the next quarterly patch, because it will keep happening.
You can rationalize against it all you want, but it doesn’t change the fact that its absolutely wrong, and unfair.
Lets say i have 100 apples. Current TP price is 1 copper. I go ahead and put them up, and get my 1 silver. A week down the road now, people start putting up the applies for 1 gold a piece…just “out of the blue”, well ok, i shoulda waited (i think to myself). Next, a patch drops where apples are now the #1 commodity to sell. Think about that. Seriously. That right to you?
Sure, i sold my apples. I got what they were worth at the time, but had i known that they were now going to to go for 1g a piece in a week, don’t ya think i would have held on to them?
You say: “This doesn’t hurt the every day user”. No, no it doesn’t, but it screws us out of a profit, because we didn’t have the farsight that the insiders had in the first place.
Now, lets say because i’m bestest chums with Gaile Grey, she gives me a secret buff in WvW or PvP with her developer magic, and i go own everything in sight, because we’re best buddies. Does that sound ok to you? It doesn’t really hurt the majority of players, because i’m not doing it in PvE, so who cares? Cheaters running speed hacks are clearly more dangerous. Right?
The logic you are placing here is that if ANet is ok with it, then its ok to exploit. As long as it doesn’t directly affect you, then its ok.
Wrong is wrong, and this is something thats been going on for quite some time. Granted, its not enough to kill my enjoyment of the game, but it sure speaks volumes to those involved, which may hold sway against ANet later down the road.
Also note that we never got a response from Mr. Cartwright.
Update: Poster of previous thread on Reddit is asking for an update.

Again, can we please get an update on this? Either that, or please begin discussing economy changes with us, prior to the changes being performed in patches. This way, we all know what you are going to do, thus killing the opportunity for those who are doing the actual insider trading.
Now I miss all of the old Lion’s Arch chatter.
Honestly I miss Lion’s Arch in general. I just feel like the old map had a lot more character or something then the new one… I liked it a lot more overall.
What? You don’t like Lobster’s Arch?
I agree, Lion’s Arch was cool, but Lobster’s Arch is cool too. I just wished it was a city somewhere else in Tyria, while Lion’s Arch was actually rebuilt.
