Like! I think the new map is simply amazing to see, roam around in, and play in. Now, all we need to do is merge all the servers down to 9-12 specific WvW servers, to build the communities, and provide a population to those maps, and we’ll be all set.
Yeah, we definitely need this in WvW and EotM. Like asap. I don’t know how many precursors i missed out on by being dead and laying in a pile of bags, or leaving a pile of bags at spawn and running away from them, with even knowing that they were there!
currently leveling with staff/hammer to get a better feeling for rev then straight buffing to 80 (also don’t have tomes)
Staff is indeed not a good support weapon currently, the little healing by auto attack is in random placed orbs
my choice of change would be to make auto attack like guardian mace auto attack in making a pbaoe heal that should scale better with healing power.
the second skill is an odd ball, as it provides a interrupt after striking during a enemy skill, the moment where the interrupt would be actually needed…better the interrupt, on the first skill and on the second skill something else. maybe a heal/protection/regen/condiclean for succesfully interrupting
4 is good but needs a tweak to the CD
I’m doing the same. I swapped out the staff for the hammer. Sure, you don’t get that AoE heal, but meh. Its not worth the other skills not synergizing correctly.
However, hammer and sword/shield seem kinda nice, and i’m looking at this from a WvW perspective. I’m still trying to figure out what legends to use. I know Ventari…i’m thinking backline support.
What ANet did wrong, imo.
- Waited until the last minute to tell people they would not be playing the Elite specs right off the bat. People have waited either up to 3 years; or since HoT announcement in January to be able to play professions a new way, and nothing prepared them for the idea they’d have to wait longer.
- Making one-and-done content like Hero Challenges into group events. That sort of content is fine for stuff people will want to repeat. This ensures a population that is available to be the groups doing those events. We’re already seeing reports about empty maps and no one around to assist with these group Challenges and it’s just the first weekend. What is this content going to be like in 6 months when the new guy or late adopter comes along, or when someone who has less time to play is working on his 6th alt? This was — yet again — too much, “Wouldn’t it be cool if we could get herds of players to do challenges together!” and not enough, “How is this idea going to play out over time?”
- Fostered a climate in WvW where players are ignoring the new maps in order to do cyclical PvD to eke out the necessary currencies to unlock specs.
I agree with all of those things, but I don’t think they’re as big of a deal as people make them out to be. I’ve been playing the expansion a ton over the past couple days, and I’ve been having a blast.
I agree. There are issues, but not big enough issues to make me think the entire xpac is bad, or was a flop. Quite the opposite.
See alot of people complain about the time and money things take. My question: Do you want an MMO you can beat in 48hrs? I don’t. I want something that is going to keep me playing for the next few years. I generally see all these complaints, because there is no instant gratification.
If anything ANet has removed a large block of “the grind” from the game. Take precursors and legendaries for example. I saw threads about how precursor mats are like 2k to build via the mastery, and the actual precursor sells for 600-700g. Ya know, you’re counting 3k mithril bars, which really is one of the easiest materials to collect? Really? Just play the game! Collect everything you can, while doing it! Is it hard to figure that out?
Before, you never knew how to farm T6 mats reliably. It was complete RNG if you’d be able to complete a stack of any of them, unless you had friends or massive amounts of gold. Now, you just do events in Orr. Hell, theres been trains doing it there since the game launched and still do! Now, we have a reliable source of T6 mats, that we can count on.
That being said, there are a few flaws here and there, which i believe we’ll over come as a gaming community, or ANet will see it, and fix it. It just takes patience. Play the game and enjoy it for what it is, or please go play something else, and stop ruining it for those of us who are extremely grateful for all the work ANet has put into this expansion.
Either way, that my two cents. I hated ANet before this, but they are fully redeemed in my eyes, and i know where i’ll be spending my free time for the next few years.
I disagree with the OP. I’ve been playing the same maps for over 2 years now, and i’m always finding things to, and stuff to see. Adding map rewards to the mix, just escalates this to a whole new level, and i am just completely and utterly EXCITED to log on now and keep playing. GW2 feels GREAT right now!
I’m a warrior main (used to be guardian ages ago), and to be honest I wasn’t hyped about the berserker because I’m not a huge fan of condition based fighting. I love melee, being in the face of my opponent as I drop them. As HoT was approaching I wasn’t “excited” in any way because I felt that there was no class I truly wanted to play. The top things from what I’ve read that seemed interesting were: Reaper, Chronomancer, and Revenant.
I logged on to my warrior just to check my armor and food and figured I’d try out berserker. Holy hell.. was I blown away by how much fun I had, and am having. I absolutely love it. Even the voice overs are adrenaline packed when you enter that berserker rage. Your character begins glowing red and yells out “I’ll destroy you all”, dealing large AOE and fast attacks.
In summary, yeah I had no hype towards this to begin with but after playing it I love it more than anything they have released!!! Even went as far as to tell a dev in game that they did a great job on it. xD
The ONLY thing I’d say I don’t like is the kitten headbutt elite. It’s strong, it’s fast, the animation looks great, and used with the right traits/skills can definitely turn around a battle (I don’t even mind the self stun) but! the range on it is way too low. if they increased it by another 100 or 200 range it would be perfect, and you’d get to see that sort of tackle the warrior does. It would feel more epic.
THIS, just made my decision of the first class i’m taking into the new expansion zones. In addition, with all the crap these other classes are bringin, in terms of conditions, stuns, and fears, that ’zerker line suuuure is looking right nice for negating all that crap and bein able to destroy things.
I was thinkin Revvie, but with all that fancy tankin and healin skills they have, I think i’ll just keep on mainin’ my warrior, because even tho we ain’t pretty, we get the job DONE!
Ditto. I second this. Sure, there are bumps and really big bumps that need to be ironed out, but overall, i am extremely excited to have the opportunity to be a part of this. The tremendous effort you guys put forth is really a rewarding experience to play.
Moving forward, i pray you put as much effort into addressing the community concerns and making the expansion even better, in doing so.
I can still level my 70-something Revvie in there, so it is all good in the hood, here.
SO, at the character select screen, if you sit idle, and don’t press anything or move the mouse, the interface fades out, and JUST shows your currently selected character. It makes character screenshots even better. Thanks ANet!!!

Well I feel like a huge fool for spending the last couple weeks getting all the hero points on several alts with prominent elite specs. I could have just waited and gotten far more per hero point challenge if i did absolutely nothing and waited for HoT. Then I’d just have to do around 40 instead of 254. On six alts. And it’s worse for some of the other altaholics around here.
Rage aside, why are they only telling us this now? We’ve been asking for months about how many hero points, discussing our plans to actually play through the story/jungle with our elite specs, and the devs choose 3 days before launch to tell us.
You’re going to be using those points on other masteries. Like 400 just to unlock your class specialization, then the others on things like mushroom jumping, precursor crafting, gliding, and etc. So, definitely not in vane to get those HPs.

Maybe its me, but i don’t see any issues with this. I find mapping quite fun.
I’m not offended in the least. I am far, faaaaar beyond that. lol
I’m just waiting. That is all. “karma” is a thing, that gets us all. Blizzard’s World of Warcraft division recently learned this.
Oh. Em. Gee. I have so much to get off my chest.
First off, I just learned that I have to actually LEVEL my character if I want to get him to 80! This is preposterous! The gem store should sell me a fully outfitted level 80, for about 10 gems. (Maybe 5, because ANet is evil and stinky and moneygrubby and I’m so tired of funding their gold-plated cafeteria/caviar orgy pit that floats on an ocean of perfumed crude oil.)
*See attachment
The problem, or complaint, to which you are trying to make light of, isn’t that we don’t want to give ANet money. Hell, i’d give’m 40-50 bucks a month, if they’d just cut out all the psychological schemes to make money, such as making rare mats impossible to farm, the gem to gold conversion never quite allowing you to convert ALL of your gems (See Salami Slicing), and creating outfits, instead of individual armor pieces without adding said pieces to the game in expansions or Living Story. Be straight forward. Offer a straight forward product, and people will buy it. Its not something that needs this level of psychology applied to it!
Bad business only sticks around long enough until the competition reverse engineers your business to be a better business model entirely. Its only time, that keeps GW2 popular. Perhaps though, it is a lack of competition that allows them to do whatever they want? We’ll see. The industry is in ‘study mode’ right now, as WoW has just imploded and people are looking for that “next big thing”.

Hello All,
Launching a game is an enormous undertaking and our teams need time to address any issues that come up. Therefore after launch we must move WvW reset to Saturday. We will keep resets on Saturday to address issues and once we are in the clear we will evaluate the best time for WvW reset both for us as a company as well as for our players.
Since it is clear that we cannot pick a time that will work for everyone, we will be maintaining our original plan of shifting reset by 24 hours, to Saturday evening. That time was based on data for when prime time occurs in each region.
Thank you,
John
THANK YOU JOHN!!!! =D
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ABADDON, DO NOT CHANGE IT AGAIN! please.
Gah, this now sucks. “Reset Night” is a friggin tradition in this game, for ALOT of communities. Its the after-work, blow of some steam with some zerg fights-sorta thing. Now, you put it at noon on a Saturday, when most civilized people are out doing yard work, or spending time with their families? In my case, i work on Saturdays.
I was really looking forward to the change to Saturday night, but now, its just not gonna work.
Why does ANet always hafta to do, or say something really cool, then screw it all up by locking some feature or some thing behind some kind of complicated decision that ends up making things bad for us?
“Free to play” is industry jargon for, “Sure, you can play for free, but if you want to progress, it’ll COST YA! HARHARHAR!”
However, GW2 is “Buy to play” meaning you have to buy the game, in order to play it, except for the core game…cause that free to play…EITHER WAY, they still want all your money, so please start droppin them fat stacks of cash in the gem store! And remember kids, never, ever ask or want for more, because the gem store delivers us all!
NICE! Its like they knew of my schedule change and adjusted the day accordingly. I hafta work Saturday, during the day, with Sun-Mon off, so this is a very nice change indeed! Thanks ANet!
I feel at this point, they aughtta just remove all the psychology and smoke’n’mirrors and just offer rare mats for a gem cost. You want 100 Charged Lodestones? 1000 gems. You want 100 of each T6 mat? 2000 gems. You want a bolt of damask? 150 gems. I think this resolution would certainly allow us to skip right to the point, without worrying about what drops where and how often (if at all).
Howdy John! Any plans to reduce the amount of bolts of silk required for crafting spools of silk weaving thread?
Nope
And really, this is where bad things, just stay bad. I get it though. Silk is a HUGE gold sink for anyone wanting ascended armor. If they changed the frequency, they devalue those that spent the $100 in gems, just to buy 30-some bolts of Damask.
The silk issue should have been fixed along time ago. Keeping it as it was, in the beginning was more a way to churn gem profits, via gem-to-gold transactions.
Seeing this response tells me, that even though things are changing, the one constant will be that we are still depending on gem-to-gold transactions in order to purchase the rarer mats.
So John, here is my question to you: Has Arena Net ever considered offering a monthly sub to those of us who’d like a 60-75% increase in crafting mats drops? If so, why haven’t we been given the option, instead of depending on large gem purchases, that we rarely can afford?
(edited by slamfunction.7462)
I played a little over a year and a half. Then, i got disgusted. Not at the game, but at the company developing it. I have my reasons, which have been all over the internet, by other players who posted their thoughts. So, i quit, and went and played other MMOs. I found other, better MMOs, but in the end, they weren’t. They were WoW clones, that all had the very same treadmill, that WoW has. I got bored. I missed doing everything with my friends. And i came to a revelation: This game was developed to emphasize the power in groups of friends who love gaming with each other. Literally, everything in GW2 is about playing with friends to achieve similar goals. There is always a benefit to each person in the area, regardless if they needed it or not.
Its not so much the gameplay, or the areas, or even the fights. As every MMO tends to provide a unique experience on their own. It is the social mechanic that Arena Net has developed into a juggernaut, that will continue to drive this game. I realize that now. Its not about you, the hero. Its about you, and your friends, “The Heroes”. TO put a simpler way, this game isn’t about being Batman; Its about being the Justice League.
If you want to be Batman, GW2 is not for you. If you want to be a member of the Justice League, this is the best MMO on the market.
Alternatively, ANet has alot of work to do on itself, and on the game. I think they know that, because we fans remind them every day. I just hope they continue to improve, both internally, and in what they deliver to us in-game.
At any rate, thank you. Please keep up this fantastic game, Arena Net!
“Why is the community so easily discouraged?”
Because i supported the game by having a $30-$50 a month gem store habit, with little to no return on my monetary or time investment. I played everything i could play, and when things got old, there was simply nothing left, and no communication on the fixing of things that I (and alot of the community) had issues with.
If you can’t afford a sub’d MMO, then GW2 is right for you. If you can afford a sub, then this is not the MMO you are looking for, regardless of what the issues are…and speaking of which: I work for a company that runs very similar to ANet, so i get why they don’t say much. Its just bad business and a shame to those people who put so much time into launching this game. Sad, actually.
To be honest, they probably won’t say anything. Forums matter very little to this company, as has now been proven a few times… So, the reality here, is they will see what the sales tell them. If everyone who raged about this recent “development” doesn’t pre-order, then i would imagine that might just be a clear enough message to the company that they may need to invest in some new management.

I’ve been saying they’re shady ever since they tunred the gem to gold conversion tool over to a salami slicing tool, but too many fanbois cried out “Yer Paranoooooooooooid!!!”. Beware OP, the Fanbois are coming! The Fanbois are coming!!!
“One of the most immediate things you’ll notice when you take charge of the reaper in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns™ is that the greatsword attacks are slow. In fact, most of the reaper’s attacks have a fairly sizeable cast time. Drawing on the themes of horror monsters, we wanted to express a sense of dread and weight behind each blow. This means that while the reaper doesn’t swing a greatsword as fast as other professions do, the damage modifiers and effects for each blow are much more pronounced.”
Anybody? Anyone? I really want to hit you with my super fab GS attack, but you can dodge, run, walk out of its attack hitting. Can i interest you in some Avon, while we wait for my super fab GS attack to hit?

ROFLMAO!!! Wow…just, “Wow”…
Next up: We turn the Ranger class into a Guardian! Stay tuned!!
EDIT: “Bunny Thumper” has my vote for “Best new specialization”
Games come and go. The best ones have fans that play it for a very long time, while others move on to whatever is new. Thats just how it is. Thats why you see the surge in playerbase when new content comes out, and then it recedes when that content runs out.
I’ve been addicted to FFXIV lately. I think it may just end up finally pulling me away from GW2 and after seeing how ANet operates, i’m rather not too sad about that.
Life is finding happiness. Go find yours wherever you can.
It doesn’t take a big long post to point out why Anet is terrible at managing the playerbase and it’s game. Wow has like 10 million gamers. FFXIV has 4 millon. How many does GW2 have? Oh, thats right…they won’t tell us. pffft… GW2 is no longer a game people spend money on. It is a game we play because we had a good feeling about their initial development cycle that will bring back nostalgia for years to come.
“Should we stop playing?”
I stopped WvW. The game mode supports a drama-full community and then adds bugs and server issues to bolster it. I’m not looking for stress from any video game, so WvW-less, i shall remain.
Give it time.
GW2 is more a “product” than a “service”. Games like FFXIV and WoW are “services”. Think of it that way. Can you turn a product into a service? Possibly, but the product would have to inherit the traits of a service.
Think of your car becoming a train ride, where you have to give money to the train conductor, as opposed to just putting gas into it and fixing the day to day engine issues.
In GW2’s current format? Oh no. I’d be done faster than a fat kid eats a candy bar. But this is an illogical question. GW2 is BUILT for “free to play”. Every reward, every system, just everything in this game is built to slightly urge you into buying gems to convert to gold or buying stuff off the gem store. Most of it is economical and large part of it is psychological.
Aside from that, ANet has not managed by expectations of this game too well, much less the game itself. So, thats another turn off, unless they changed how they managed the game and communicated to the community.
Games like WoW and FFXIV are BUILT for a monthly sub model. You can tell by rewards system, how its managed, and how often they reach out to the community.
The answer, much like the question is illogical as well, for if ANet had the revenue (i’m only guessing), they would possibly have the resources to manage the game better? Who knows. I play this game as a WYSIWYG and have learned to simply not ask for more.
If you think this game is too easy, can you find me in game and beat the centaur boss for the ‘Wicked Rodeo’ achievement? I’m serious. I can’t beat it.
Hey Funrider! When you get a chance, please visit forthetoast.com. We have some folks that can give you tools to get onto the server.
ANet likes money, so they make one mat be pretty much needed for everything, then make it a random drop (ZOMG les blame the RNGesus), so that you buy gems to convert to gold to by silk. Simple economics, since the gem store doesn’t update with anything interesting, but ever so rarely. As you go and begin to see the bigger picture, it becomes alot more apparent as to why the system exists in it’s current form.
I’m curious to see how they spin T6 mats though, since thats another gem-to-gold conversion magnet, but it might be possible that most gem-to-gold conversionists see the materials so expensive that its just not worth it, thus by introducing a few more sources, it will drive the price down on the market, and make those mats more appealing.
In honor of Deadpool’s passing today, I suggest chimichangas be added to the game.
no! TACOS!
I would like to informally, or formally (whichever you approve) to add more recipes in the game for TACOS! I see there is a recipe in there for pizza and even for a hamburger, but nothing for TACOS!
TACOS! are a fast food foundation, that every fan can admit to like in some form or another and when creating the recipe “TACOS!”, the stats should be like +45 to everything.
This would make TACOS! the most epic food ever created for an MMO, and should be added immediately!!!
Please PM for my home address to send me a check for giving you the best suggestion for the game. Please note, i can also be paid in TACOS!
I want “Master of TACOS!”, because TACOS! are awesome.
Don’t go to T1….at all. Its not worth the stress. Believe me, this is one instance where ignorance will truly be bliss if you’re anything close to passionate and willing to form server pride.
Over heard in an ANet Marketing Team meeting: ""Supply"..and what did you say? “Demand”?? What is this concept you speak of??? What do you mean, “8 plus 4 doesn’t equal 20”?!? YOU’RE FIRED!!!"
If you keep playing a while, you’ll find GW2 is like that really super hot and awesome woman of your dreams that is just amazing in all aspects, but every time you go to bed with her, she has the most terrible farts ever and they never fail to hit when she is horizontal, whilst being the worst smelling and most obnoxious sounding things ever. Playing GW2 is a lifetime of sleeping on the couch, my friend. Get used to it.
@Gaile Gray: 10/10
Great trollin, bro.
We did not re-experience the issues lastnight. It appears the queue “bug” only occurred Saturday night between the hours of 7PM EST and 11PM EST.
You don’t pay every month for this game. If you decided not to…. what would happen? Nothing. You’d still be able to log-in, you’d still be able to play. That’s not how a sub works. Your gem purchase doesn’t actually entitle you to anything other than the use of your gems. That’s the reality.
JQ is winning this week because BG isn’t really pushing. If BG were out pushing, you’d see a vastly different result. Would you then be witch-hunting BG for acting unfairly, or would that be OK?
Kashmara, first, thank you for your replies and your time in discussing this matter with me. Its appreciated.
In reply to the above post however, win, lose, or otherwise, my goal is to obtain verification that there was a error or bug in the system lastnight, which allowed a competitor access to more players on the map, while we were being held back by a queue.
Regardless of who is winning and who is pushing, none of that matters if there is a bug of flaw in the system that doesn’t allow appropriate queuing or matchmaking.
There is NO competition here, if the technology being used to provide the venue for the competition, is flawed or broken.
If i experienced this in T2, T3, or whatever, i’d still be creating a complaint and awareness thread.
If it happened to be SOR and SOS as our competitors, i STILL would be creating a complaint and awareness thread.
This is in no way, shape, or form anything to do about your standings this week.
This is also in no way, shape, or form anything to do with other player’s internet connection issues.
This is a thread where a flaw was found within Arena Net’s either infrastructure or programming code that created a situation where one competitor received a larger allotment of on-map players than the others.
(edited by slamfunction.7462)
Can you prove that you had exactly 55? For that matter, can anyone?
I cannot speak for TCBL because I was PINed on BGBL at that time.
I Hopped over to JQBL to defend Garri. You sir, are being dishonest in your claims.
Can i have all 55 people do some kind oath and testimony? No, thats unrealistic. What i can do though, is express a concern over what i am seeing and experiencing with an experienced mind who is very used to the numbers on a particular map. Also, i know the guilds on my end. I can state how many we had in voice chat, how many the other had in voice chat, ad add a variance of +5 for roamers. I may not be accurate down to the exact number, but i can surely come within at least 5 players of it.
It’s all about perspective. Having anet leave the cap off ONE server, makes absolutely zero sense.
I am not stating that any of this was done purposefully, or towards any gains on behalf of any party included. What i am stating is that I am seeing a problem in Arena Net’s NOC, where they are not monitoring these issues as well as they should, and thus we are developing inconsistencies, which alter the environment quite significantly. These alterations are so significant, i don’t see a point to the WvW game mode anymore, when the technology behind it, is flawed or unstable. Granted, “Free to play” promoters will state that one should “not complain what they get for free”, but i spend on average, $20-$50 a month on this game. Regardless of what the game is labeled, i pay for my subscription to this service and require feedback on any and all technical problems that affect the service in which i pay for.
Good luck, Anet doesn’t take too kindly to demands.
I understand that, because their business practices have never been kosher, however, i’ve over looked said business practices because waging a war against popular opinion on these boards or with this company is useless.
Again, i am looking for coordination from the other tier 1 servers, not trolling. I understand you are happy with the situation, as the flaws in the technology are allowing you to win, but i can’t continue be a loyal customer to this company, if they are false advertizing the game modes and promotion of a fair and competitive gaming environment.
(edited by slamfunction.7462)
All I take from this is
“My server lost a fight there for I swear, while offering no proof, that they had more players on the map”I have been PINed up on various border lands for JQ for the past 6 hours, and I call shenanigans.
You could at least make the effort to show some evidence.
Hopefully OP hopped on JQ and saw we also had queues on all maps. This was a direct result of Anet tweaking the map cap down. It was rather annoying because we only had 2 active commanders working 2 maps, 1 had a map blob, the other had only 20’ish. This was around 6pm pst.
How many commanders did you have, how many map blobs were you running?
Between 2 guilds, we had exactly 55 TC on JQBL at 10PM EST lastnight. Can you confirm on the JQBL side, what your numbers were at that time?
I was seeing right around 70 of you in JQBL Garrison when we had attacked.
BG, can you also confirm your numbers at that time?
After reading this: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/WvW-Lag-March-2015/page/3 i think it is fairly safe to say that Arena Net’s integrity in the matter of server maintenance and coding a fair, competitive environment is in question currently.
Over the last few years, gamers have complained about lag, but we’ve all grown accustom to these complaints and largely ignored them, due to so many factors “usually” being on the user’s side of the issue.
This evening, i recorded TC and BG members on both EBG and JQBL to be much lower than Jade Quarry’s blob sizes, while TC experienced an anomoly where all 4 of our maps were queued, and after verifying the numbers with our on-map commanders. I don’t believe that Jade Quarry is responsible, nor should be held responsible for this, as this is a problem with the server-side application and database coding.
Tarnished Coast, as a server, as well as our competitors Jade Quarry, and Blackgate, spend a great deal of time organizing and analyzing both our own WvW environments and the Tier 1 environment as a whole. I hate to think that alot of time spent in these processes are a gross misuse of our collective time, due to server resource issues or faulty code on Arena Net’s end.
This is a request to all 3 server communities in tier 1, to band together and reach out to Arena Net, demanding an official, and well documented statement of proof, showing times and player statistics to defend the Tier 1 WvW maps for at least one month, up to and including this weekend (4/5-4/6).
I know that this request is overly ambitious and you may be asking yourselves why you should get involved, as long as the server coding issues play to your benefit, but as a competitive gamer, wanting an equal environment to compete against ALL of our fellow gamers in Tier 1, I cordially and sincerely ask your utmost serious attention and diligence in this matter.
Please copy and past this request on your individual server/guild forums.
Thank you for your time.
