To keep everyone happy, they should release these as both skins and costumes, so the people like me who like wearing things not suited to their armour class can be happy and so can the mix and matchers
I think this is the most brilliant idea on these forums to date.
<—-Feel free to send all “Excess” T5 mats to this guy.
I will be more than happy to assist you in your bag clearing chores and make sure the mats are put to good use!
it’s an outfit, looks like no money from me again
with this attitude from designers I’m considering if it is worth buying expansion especially it’s quite obvious now we will get a LS quality with some features
I agree with the sentiment on the outfit. No matter how cool it looks, i’m not supporting the design philosophy behind ‘outfits-only’.
I will be buying the xpac though. Hopefully it will contain actual armor pieces that i can mix and match with.
I LOL’d. 7/10
Legendary armor sounds like an extraordinary development effort for little to no gain. We’re talking about 3 tiers of armor, 6 pieces per set, more than a couple of sets per tier, requiring unique artwork and effects for each set, and a drawn-out, lengthy method of acquiring each individual piece, presumably with either ascended armor as the starting point, or you’re doubling the number of armor pieces they have to make.
And for all those hundreds of hours of work, ANet gets a handful of hardcore players patting them on the back, and truckloads of others griping about gear grind. The only way they could make money on it is by doing something sneaky involving gems and mats, which people would pick up on right away and whine about P2W even more than they already do.
It’s a nice idea at the surface, but the effort it would take to implement would surely outweigh the returns by a longshot.
Inorite?? BANISH the thought that a MMORPG gaming company ACTUALLY BUILD content the fans will be excited over and want to dump millions of hours into wanting to play through or obtain. GOOD LORD! That would be an UTTER TRAVESTY!
Those poor, poor dears! They must be working their fingers to the bone on them outfits that are a ‘one size fits all’. My land, we couldn’t DARE possibly ask them to put more effort into making and creating in-game items we would LOVE to have! That would be just SO WRONG of us.
Its a great thing that people like you keep a good community like this in check, to make sure that we think the highest bar possible is complete and accepting mediocrity.

If the answer is, “we are focusing 100% on getting HoT out the door so it won’t happen until after HoT’s release”, then fine. Just say so. Let us, the consumer, make our decisions based upon real honest information and not something cooked up by PR. I promise that level of honesty will work out more for Anet than stringing people along with silence. Silence only makes us shout louder and pick apart every little thing that has ever gotten under our skin. Its actually worse for Anet in the long run to be honest. Now…about that trait revamp. How’s it coming? Is there really no update at all that can be given at this stage?
Unlike most other IT groups or management companies, ANet isn’t capable of rolling back changes. Its weird, but they have to “re-program” the change back to what it was. One would think it would be changing a few lines of code back to what it was, then BOOM! done, but not ANet. Its the weirdest thing. I tend to blame it on bad project management processes.
Um, xfer to TC. We have literally no queue times and farm JQ zergs with twice the size of our own blobs. TC = Quality > Quantity.
You people need to wake up from this dream called “RNG” that the gaming companies have eluded you with.
Buy gems, convert them to gold, get what you want. This is how it works. ANet WANTS your money. “RNG” is a more sophisticated way of frustrating you to the point of giving in and following this process.
People are going hungry in the real world and you’re worried about some kids cussing in an online game? Give me a break! Learn to ignore it and use the in game tools provided.
Thanks ANet, for yet another fine example of poorly developed content! Enjoy the $10 you got from me! /irrate
Other than being able to feel how the Revenant plays, it wasn’t really too impressive.
I would have been interested in seeing more than what was already spammed all over Reddit, and the newer stuff just wasn’t here, it felt like.
The Revenant is going to be fun to play and be a monster in WvW, but i really have nothing else to say, good, bad, or otherwise because there really just wasn’t much here that was noteworthy.
Sorry, but thanks for the invite.
I tend to agree with the sentiment here. Don’t buy keys in hopes of Black Lion tickets and don’t buy dye kits for new dyes. Put your money into gems, convert them to gold, and buy the stuff off of the Trading post. I found its much cheaper on the wallet, then hoping for a large gamble to pay off.
I agree with much that has been said. The Charr and Asuran faces are welcome additions. The human and norn faces or asbsolutely horrid and not worth blowing a makeover kit on.
If you want to sell makeover kits, stop letting female designers create the male human and norn faces, and start introducing more rugged, scared, older, and tribal -looking faces for Norn and Human. You’ve shown via NPC models you have the textures and etc to release that sort of thing, so please do.
The patch is so big because its most likely roughly half of HoT being downloaded to your PC ahead of time. Providing they are doing this like another very large MMO developer we all know.
Using an organized, voice chat enabled group to kill karma train lowbies is “mad skill”?
Apparently, the PGL hasn’t recognized your talent yet. lol
@OP:
I have 3 ascended sets. 1 for each weight class. I have found that if you do not focus on it and enjoy playing the game, while having a daily reset ritual, to do you 24 hour, time-gated craftings, it becomes a non-issue. One when you dwell on instant-gratification, does this situation you are referring to become relevant.
I think the new map looks cool. I will also thrive in the chaos that leads up to and around to it’s release.
Chris Whiteside was the best of us and the worst of us. He’ll be remembered with this fine phrase, forevermore: “I farted!”
Thank you! (Ugh, hopefully they add a mechanic to fix this in the future, so that we don’t burn through Transmutation Charges).
I really like the new map and i can’t wait to enjoy it.
In reply to your topic subject line, no, it does not kill open field fights, as the other maps are still relevant to the WvWvW game mode and an open field fight can happen there at any time, regardless of the new map becoming available.
@Stilk: WvWvW is a PvE/PvP hybrid game mode, that incorporates both elements to create the unique mode that we call WvWvW. It is not a strictly PvP game mode. If you are looking for a strictly PvP game mode, there is sPvP. If that does not fit your preference on what PvP should be, then there are many, many choices out there that may be better fitted to what you may be looking for.
Anet gets it. The issue is that you are jaded by your community/server politics.
Example: 2600 years ago, people thought the world was flat. They didn’t believe this because there was factual scientific proof. They believed it because everyone believed it so much so, that the belief was handed down every generation to the next generation. They thought the world was flat.
You’re argument on PPT is based on what the people around you are saying. The fact is, is that the more “stuff” you hold, the higher the PPT. The higher the PPT, the larger your score grows. Last i checked, the highest score of the week was the “winner”. Thats the point victory.
Now, if you are complaining about the moral victory, where a server beats down another server so badly, the losing server fields less people the next week, then that is a community-driven issue that needs to be addressed by both ANet and your community. Regardless, I see no proof that this means ANet “doesn’t get it”.
If i have full Ascended Medium Armor that is transmuted to Human Cultural Tier 2 and i want to remove this armor, place it my bank, and then have my Sylvari Ranger use it, what happens to the transmutation? Does it:
A:) Not allow me to equip the armor on my Sylvari?
B:) Revert to the normal ascended model skin when i equip it?
C:) Allow my Sylvari Ranger to wear Human Cultural Tier 2?
they will just keep making outfit. outfit get big income,
think about it.
1 set armor skin cost 800gem
the game designer need to design 3 set plus combination each part.1 set outfit 700 gem
1 set design no combination.save labour fees, safe time big profit.
WHY NOT.. they will never change….
Yup.
I just keep wondering when everything changed, and it was perfectly “OK!” to expect less from the products we consume. Its like somewhere along the lines someone said it was cool to never expect anything more than mediocrity.
I don’t agree with the excuses that ANet is handing out. I’m not buying outfits. And i agree with people posting their issues with outfits, because if we stop complaining, ANet will just keep doing the wrong things. Sad it comes to that. We expected more…
Yet another outfit i won’t buy, because i don’t support their philosophy on them. Thanks for nothing ANet!
Reason is simple: 1 outfit across all armor types(male and female/5 races) = 700 gems.
With armor, they have to do 3 sets(male and female/5 races) and all the seams, layers, everything has to be just so to work with the other pieces. Heck, most of the time they don’t even add tail slots for Charr or proper horn/ear slots for Charr or Asura and they get 800 gems per set for that.
The outfits are easier to make(time wise). I don’t want to detract from the awesome work they do, but it has to be a magnitude less work to do an outfit over armor sets. I agree though, I would rather have armor sets.
Why don’t they do it this way instead: Make outfits into 6 pieces wearable by all armor types?
That seems to me the best compromise.
Wait, what??? So your opinion on this is that they shouldn’t work kitten armor sets, so they work kitten everything else? Really? You’d settle for that?
So if i go to McDonalds and i buy a hamburger and the bread is cooked, but the burger itself is halfway raw, thats ok? Because i want quality bread, and i’m no so worried about the meat? How kittened does that sound?
I’m not playing an entitled part here or expressing an entitled opinion. I just want quality work on all ends, since they have “teams” of people working on this stuff.
I won’t buy the outfits, at all. I like some of them, but i can’t mix and match and i won’t condone their “new” design philosophy that seriously borders the line of mediocrity.
If you enjoy them, thats fine. But i don’t, and thus the only thing i can do is complain, since voting with my wallet appears to have little effect on the situation.
Sell them at 800 gems, as was the standard in the beginning.
Its just irritating to all hell, because they don’t want to fix this and give us this feature back. If HoT is nothing but more outfits, i dare to say that my involvment in this game will dwindle to nothing. Its THAT frustrating to me.
Can we PLEASE stop with the outfits!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!
Its seriously, SERIOUSLY starting to get on my nerves and hamper one of the features to this game that spurs me to buy gems!!!!
I, like a vocal majority, LOVE to mix and match my armor sets. I can’t do that if you keep releasing nothing but static outfits.
I don’t want outfits. I don’t like outfits. I want to be a creative gamer, and thus gives a pleasent sandbox element to this game.
If you keep releasing outfits and ignoring this, YOU WILL DRIVE CUSTOMERS AWAY!!!
So please, please, PLEASE stop doing outfits. Give us armor sets and charge more if its really that hard to separate the pieces.
That we do. But i do find it utterly hilarious that you BG/JQ’ers complain about lag when you all voltron up to 70-90 players on tag.
Maybe if you jackballs would stop zerging all over the place, due to lack of skill, the lag might go away? lulz
In an ideal system, you would get BL ticket scrap per key, but ANet is gonna be ANet, you either buy into it or you don’t. I bought 25 keys lastnight and got 2 scraps. Its really not worth buying them. You’re better off converting the gems to gold and buy T6 mats towards building a precursor or stuff for ascended mats.
I would’ve loved to have purchased it and mix and matched armors to make it better. That hat is just “…”. Ah well….maybe next time.
No. Open world zerging is just fine for me.
I agree with Harper. I <3 GS! Its like the gatling gun or mini-cannon for sci-fi games. It just imbues everything most everyone likes about being powerful. All of the major DPS or utility abilities tend to come from them in this game, and it just synergizes so well with everything we do here.
Dgins loves Aetherblade killin’ as much as fat kids love cake. If you don’t love cake, don’t follow Dgins…wait…that was wrong. If you don’t like cake, don’t follow the Aetherblades? GRRRR…If you don’t like Dgins, don’t eat cake? I give up…
In a WORLD of "Um"s and “Ya know”s there comes a response, unlike anything we’ve ever seen before…. “SOOooooo…”!
Tried solo for about 2 hours today – same issues.
I was able to turn off the annoying “hue”, but it didn’t help with the boss’s ability to keep me at less that 50% the entire encounter, only to instantly kill me at his whim.
Again, very poorly made content. This should be a non-achievement fight, if anything.
Its frustrating to hit roadblocks like this and a shame on the development team. I’m done with it.
I agree, it would be really nice to have something like this, but yeah, doubtful it will happen.
I’m putting this in the “bug” section, due to spending 4 hours fighting this boss with a 4 man guild group and getting constantly, to 35% and then wiping…for over 4 hours.
I have to say, a majority of your 5 man encounters are of a rather poor/cheap quality that only illustrates the deficiencies of the team who had worked on them. Only by the community finding ways to use walls, corners, and other such devices to negate the poor/cheap quality of the design, were they able to develop speed clear strategies.
Apparently, Togunn and his “Wicked Rodeo” is an extension of these poor design philosophies. And to illustrate, lets take a look at what that issues are here:
1. Dull environmental hue – does not allow proper vision of obstacles and damaging elements in the area, well enough to avoid them. Many times, we wiped simple because we could not “see” the spinning sand on the ground. To resolve, please take away the “dream-like” colors for this encounter and give us a normal hue of textures in which to fight in, so that we can see the obstacles and hazards
2. Power balance against a 4 man group – As far as I knew all content scales to the amount of people in your group. Obviously, this content was not and there was no note in the achievement stating we would need a 5th. Only after getting through the most painful of mechanics, were we able to realize that the missing 35% damage was actually a 5th member. Had we known this at the onset, we would have prepared a 5th player to run suffer through this poor encounter. To resolve: Put a warning on the achievement that it requires a 5 man group or the suggested party size is 5 players (WE CAN’T TELL WHAT YOU BALANCED THE ENCOUNTER FOR!!!)
3. Physical placement of player character and hazards – Every attempt at the fight found our party members constantly wiping to an obstacle or attack that was dodged well in advance, in preparation, yet time and time again, the damage payload that had been dodged would still be delivered to the player at the end of the dodge. To resolve, use better obstacles and play test the mechanics more.
4. The need for “Caithe” – Although some of Caithe’s attacks are really nice and do more than enough damage to supposedly make the encounter go smoothly, the elementals just kind of wander off on their own, making it very difficult to dps them down via the #5 skill, which ultimately negates her usefulness in the encounter at all. To resolve: options should be placed here, after the story has been cleared to allow the player to not use her, and instead use their normal class
5. Lack of “Dimishing Returns – This goes for a majority of the content in the game, which is only further highlighted by this encounter: GETTING CROWD CONTROLED BY PVE MONSTERS IS NOT FUN!!! No one likes to be feared, immobilized, or otherwise. If you must use these in your PvE content, please place a diminishing returns on them, as they are quite annoying and just expotentionally exaggerate that “cheaply-made” feeling that you get from even trying the content. Its just not fun and a large reason why a majority of players avoid Arah Explorable dungeons like the plague. Your speed runners may enjoy it, as they’ve found ways to negate or break it, but for us normal level players, it just adds and adds frustration, which turns into anger for this product. To resolve: Lessen the duration of the CC effect after each sequential effect, so that it will eventually have no effect. Either that, or make the environmental/spell effects do less damage, so that the crowd control effect can be effectively mitigated.
6. We also found that only the player who started the instance could use gemstore vendors. I wasted 2 BLTP vendors, in which i placed them and then could not use them, because i was not the owner of the instance. This too, needs to be fixed.
Because this is a recommended achievement to obtain in-game armor skins, we will get a 5th and hopefully not end up wiping on this for as long as we did tonight.
Since this is newer content, please clean this mess up and resolve the issues.
Blizz got the class right when it was called a “Rogue”, as far as stealth is concerned. Otherwise, ANet’s version of the rogue is a frustrating class that has a very high skill cap where the best players have learned to infinite stealth on demand, while the rest of us are left wandering, “Why does my stealth only last 5-6 seconds max???”
After a year and a half of playing, i got “Howl” from the Silverwastes lastnight. Thefirst Pre was from putting swords in the MF and getting Spark. Pres do drop, but you just have to not make it the focal point of your gamin experience. On the other hand, i am dreading that T6 mats farm. >_<
I dunno where this debate is going, but after reading Colin’s replies, i’m onboard with that and was at the onset. I’ve 8 80s now and each one is exotic geared, while two are fully ascended. It takes time and just playing the game and having fun with it to get geared. If you get the “I hafta”s, then sure, you’re going to be able to point out that every single task in the game is a grind, but again, its perception.
“Grinding” is perception. You can get a majority of the materials you need for ascended armor, just by going through each of the maps on your toons or even doing the LS content. Yes, if you focus on that one goal, without play the game for fun, then it is a grind, but still…i would not consider this a grind.
Now, Legendaries, with their 250-of-each-T6-mat-that rarely-rarely-drops, i completely agree with you. That grind just blows. But again, its not necessary, so if i don’t like the requirements, i don’t have to do the grind for it. Easy as that.
Yes, thank you!! The show was great.
I’m just excited. Excited i was wrong about ANet giving up on the game and trying to milk gamers for money all the time, by re-pushing stale stuff we’ve seen time and time again.
So, for what its worth, great big HUGE SORRY! But, please, next time, just make it apparent that your lack of reply is due to “working on something big”. It would go a long, long way with the fans.
Months of these guys trying to destroy our hopes and dreams, gloating over the lack of evidence regarding an upcoming expansion.
I think I’ve earned this opportunity to gloat at your miserable defeat.
Still here. I wasn’t anti-expansion, i was anti-ANet not telling us anything and not giving us any hope that things would change.
That being said, this is a very bright day indeed, and i think all GW2 fans, including myself, are very happy and joyous with this news.
Now, time to start throwing money at these people(ANet). They deserve it.
Nothing about an xpac.
Heart of Thorns is the theme for 2015’s series of LS segments that will be delivered as all previous LS patches.
New areas and at least a few new outfits will be released in concordance with the new LS segments.
Spring and fall feature packs as usual.
Buy more gems, expect less, be elated when they provide more.
76 pages of dissatisfied feedback and no changes, since the trait system “overhaul” = I’m pretty sure they stopped paying attention to player feedback on this, constructive or otherwise.
Keep farming Silverwastes and playing the game, while posting my negative opinions of ANet on other forum boards, as to avoid the ban stick. What we have already, for free, s massive, so it’ll be what it’ll be and i’ll keep throwing money at them in hopes they do something cool.
The better design choice in this particular instance would have been to allow the ascended item(s) to be salvaged for ascended crafting materials. As to why they didn’t do it, i could write volumes, but nobody cares to read that, so there ya go.
Welcome to the world of being an online gamer, in general. ALL gaming companies nerf whatever is popular and easy to play. If its too easy, people stop playing it. I don’t agree with the might nerf, but you can’t convince’m otherwise. Yer wastin yer time complainin about it.
