Not sure about everything you said, but one thing that really irks me is the lack of character customization and skins for weapons and armor. Which is funny, because I was amazed about character customization when I first started this game, then after seeing the 500th player who looked exactly like me I QQd. Now I research skins and possible ways to make my character look and feel unique, but the content just is not there.

1/4/13 CD, IoJ, FA (Round 3)

There are two major issues with this match-up that I’ve noticed over the past month.

As Arena Net refuses to remove Fort Aspenwood from this bracket I think it has to be said that our server (since GODS basically fell apart) has zero ability to fight against the numbers of IoJ and CD. As much as I don’t doubt the FA guys try (and god knows, I do too), we almost categorically have the outmanned buff which does 3/5ths of nothing to help.

To those of you who say IoJ and CD don’t have some unwritten law – you’re wrong. I’ve witnessed it several times in the EB Jumping Puzzle where CD and IoJ pass each other by like they’re best of friends, whilst I’ll walk in by myself and get slaughtered.

This is not fun. The retort to this kind of statement will inevitably be “then don’t play”, but that’s not the point of a “game”, is it. World vs. World can be a lot of fun, but this type of match up for the past 3 weeks is getting stale. You’ve proven for three weeks running Fort Aspenwood is the bottom of the pile. Congrats. Can we go now?

Im no expert at WvW. But I think FA are making some poor tactical decisions. From my experience, IoJ are trying to chip away at CD as they lead. Meanwhile FA are constantly in our home borderlands and like last night, we take SM from CD in EB only to have FA steal it and target our keeps. Like my belief is that the leader in a tier should be targetted by the two behind, not what is happening. Just because you can attack, doesn’t mean you should. And our commanders are often making us pull out of attacks for this reason.

You must not have been online on Tuesday night. FA was within 3k of CD and IOJ was 2k behind us. Instead of continuing to focus CD, the IOJ zerg led by TL and Helioz decides to come to FA and spend hours sieging bay keep. This allowed CD to move up the other side of our map with an even larger zerg. Garrison was capped by CD at about the same time IOJ capped bay. What happens next? IOJ leaves allowing CD to take everything IOJ had. For the rest of the night CD held a 400+ ppt and ended up with a 10k+ lead overall.

tldr: IOJ played for 2nd place and handed CD the week.

AHk. Yeah I was online, but spent the entire time in homeland defending it (was a busy night in there). Never went over to EB to check what was going on there.

Did you by any chance take a screenshot? The only spot that I know of in GV has no way to back up the hill.

I took several. Ill load them up tonight (Im at work atm). But what I mean by “able to leave” I mean we were just defending the supply. We werent out camping their escape, we just wanted them to go away. Not sure if we could kill them on retreat.

While they are stuck there, they are not being useful to their team. You’re doing your job holding the map.

Where they were, they weren’t stuck in that location. They can back away. Personally I think it helps the team alot. I mean WvW is alot about attrition. If they have 5-10 players there constantly, than we need ~10 players defending that point, effectively losing the numbers game. Personally I think if it isn’t an exploit, than every server should have 5-10 players sit in that spot in all borderlands 24/7 because I think it provides a huge benefit to the team. If it isn’t defended, it opens up alot of things. And if the homeland tries to take it back, camp it again and steal it if they don’t defend.

I know there are badges of honor, but the proportional cost of buying stuff from badges compared to what you can but with gold/silver/copper is substantially less and more time consuming. Is this intended? Does GW development team want to dissuade players from purely playing WvW? BRB, preparing for a big weekend of PvE to fund my WvW.

The short answer is no, it is not.

The long answer is, are you really going to come to the forums and complain about players standing in their invulnerable area because it’s right next to their spawn? You are literally spawn camping a server and you’re complaining that you can’t run into their spawn and murder them there too. That’s shameful.

Where was I complaining? I want to know if its an exploit. Now that I know it is not, Im going to go do it myself.

EDIT: Oh wait you dont seem to know where it is, because its nowhere near their spawn.

So last night I go into my homeland to make sure we have 100% of the area before I plan to move to EB. But there are a group of guys in our homeland (less than 10), all from the same guild, who keep capping a supply point. Right next to the supply point is an invulnerable area (about 20 metres away), that they keep running to after attacking the supply point. They kept coming back and rallying on that point, so it was intentional.

In the end we had to camp the point for around 4 hours to stop them from capping it. Im not sure is this is intended? If it is an exploit, is it worth reporting and would Anet do anything about it?

The PvE content does get a bit stale. I originally came for the PvE. I now mostly play WvWvW. To keep the PvE content from being stale, you really have to set yourself clear goals. If they keep adding content frequently enough, they can avoid PvE from becoming stale for alot of players.

I recently left HoD. There were other more important reasons why I left although this didn’t help. Nobody can really blame anybody for what is happening. The games design and the free weekly transfer certainly added to that problem. I think what is going on with this wvwvw is the prime example of why this transfers need to be costly and incentives need to be put in place to bring players to lower pop servers in some way, without producing the same effects we have now which is a server that should be in a much higher tier stomping 2 much lower active wvwvw server.

However you are safe from me for awhile, I need sleep but I really have to ask you, if you train that much how come it takes 4 or more of you to take me down? Second question, how can you run so fast when the odds are not 4:1 in your favour? It was priceless when only 4 of us recapped Gods when you had not only the NPCs but 6 Kain as well and a ballista aimed at our doorway. However you had to save face so brought your zerg over and portal bombed our doorway. If you really require some training give me the time and place and send out 4 of yours to meet me. I will train them to respect HoD!

LOL I was there for that. Depite being heavily outnumbered, we still outplay them. Thats what WvW should be about. Im from HoD and I don’t care that we are getting stomped. I am yet to walk into a battle with the guys from HoD and not feel like we have really outplayed our opponents in each case, but only lost due to a zerg from a larger server. I would complain, but Im completely fine with badge of honor farming :p

Now that I have done it and know what I am doing, it only takes about 40 seconds. So I log 4 of my characters there to do them daily and just roam with one character. Anybody got an easier way :p

Did you find the necromancer boring to play? Mine is only low level. Does it become more enjoyable later on, in dungeons?

I found Necros weak in early levels. As Blackstar says, you do get forced into wells or condition/support a bit. I run wells though and don’t have an issue. I think its a misconception that Necros don’t do alot of damage, they need to be used a specific way. I find wells do exceptional damage against large mobs and single target damage is average. In almost every region with my build I can stand there and tank damage from mobs/bosses/champions and deal a tonne of damage and walk away on full health. Chain CC is the only thing that can really get you killed and there are ways around that.

But no I dont find it boring. I like alot of things that the Necro can do. She can deal a tonne of damage, tank a tonne of damage, mass heal, knock down, chill, AOE instant revive etc etc etc.

sostronk.8167

I only play PvE. I have a Ranger, Engineer, Warrior, Guardian and Necromancer, all levelled to 80 and fully kitted with 80 exotics. I have experimented with builds on each. Im no expert at this game, but I play alot. And I really don’t like the Engineer from PvE perspective. I know alot of people say the Ranger is underpowered and I can see why they would be in PvP, but in PvE the ranger makes the engineer look like a joke. Although its mostly because the Ranger is really good in PvE, the engineer just doesn’t really cut it. And I really don’t think its because of playstyle, but just that he brings slightly less of everything whether its solo or group PvE.

Of the 5 I play, Necromancer and Guardian are by far the strongest. The Ranger and Warrior are a step below them and I would opt for the Ranger if I am doing solo PvE and the Warrior if I am doing group PvE (particularly because of shouts).

But anyways, I thought Id throw in my thoughts. I know there are alot of myths out there… like the Ranger being weak in PvE. But from my experiments with the Engineer, he is the weakest of the 5 characters I have at present and there is not alot of experimentation I cand do from here, whether it be armor/weapons, runes, traits or slot skills. Engis are still capable of doing everything, just not as well as the other classes and alot worse than a Guardian or Necro.

I rarely see anyone in Ore. The vast majority of players on my server are either in Wayfarer Foothills farming Frozen Maw chain or in Queensdale jumping from one champion to the next. Basically I see these two areas for the casuals whilst the rest are playing fractals or PvP/WvW.

Personally I think Anet need to do a sweep. Say for instance identify where the vast majority of players are and then buff areas outside of there for rewards. IE Alot of players in Wayfarer? Then put some effort into developing Snowden Drifts to coax people to that area.

That said Frozen Maw needs a nerf too. You get level 80 (often rares/exotics) on a chain that starts every 30 minutes.

EDIT: Oh and there is another large player base who jump from one dragon to the next.

No your legendary won’t be leveled to 90. MAYBE they’ll offer an upgrade path for it but that’s all speculation at this point. People saying it’ll always be top tier and all that aren’t reading the whole thing right.

No, the devs were very direct in saying that legendaries would always be the top tier of equipment. And they said it on multiple occasions.

So if the existing legendaries were not upgradeable in some way to fit the new level cap, then yes, that would still be breaking their promise because it would mean that Legendaries were no longer equal to the strongest gear in the game.

I think that comes down to interpretation of terminology, so to speak.

Personally I would be happy if you continued to gain experience on your char after 80 from crafting. It may not sound like alot, but as an “amateur crafter” the extra skill points you could gain would make all the difference.

I don’t believe people who claim consistent gold income from crafting because from my observations the market is not static. Id love to see someone actually make gold from being a chef because I outright don’t believe that is possible. Essentially though, I believe any major profit from crafting would be more from power trading than the actual crafting. The only other way it can pay is producing rares/exotics and putting them in the mystic forge and playing the gambling game for precursors.

But now that I have the experience doing it, it appears that this is a really bad way for an individual to do it and they are wasting ALOT of coin. It seems it would be better just to sell your recipe for 1 copper on the trading post. 2000 commendations is alot for a really basic armor that you can otherwise buy for 9k karma (which is nothing when you have 2.5 million saved up like me). It would be cheaper to just outright buy most of the other things that can be purchased and the price of donation package is way too much. Or am I missing something?

Claw of Jormag mob farming nerfed

sostronk.8167

For crying out loud, I was at one of the Claw of Jormaq events for more than
24 HOURS.

That’s news to me (even ignoring that it appears to be pretty bold hyperbole). In my experience the event takes longer now than it used to, but it’s never taken longer than 40 min.

In any case, even if it were as bad as you state, nerfing the drops wasn’t the only viable option. They could have had killing vet/champ adds more directly impact event completion (improving NPC damage on wall, eliminating the randomness of stalagmites popping right in front of bomb-bots), or they could have simply put a timer on the event so that it can actually fail.

Pretty sure the farming was done during stage 1 when you have to destroy the ice shards (prior to the wall going up). That would explain the long drawn out process and elemental farming among other things. If they were to do anything, the fail timer would need to be in this stage. Although that can be a problem as Ive spent alot of time soloing this stage before people arrive. Ive started this sequence and spent the first 15 minutes solo and not getting far, but by the end of the event seen 100+ people. I think this would make the fail timer a little problematic.

sostronk.8167

I think there is an underlying problem in GW2 that this relates to. The server population size, not just what it does support but what it can support, is not relative to the map size. The players are too spread out and it leaves people feeling like “their server is dead” or “the game is dying”. There are alot of players, like myself, who don’t bother going to places like Orr because everytime we have been there, there is no one around. At best you might run into one or two people. There is no point in this for a gamer like myself. Yeah I run solo mostly, but at the end of the day I want to be involved in group events with an actual group. Orr doesn’t provide this mid and lower level areas do. They might be less rewarding gear/loot wise, but I enjoy it more. I can handle myself in Orr, I have 4 level 80s, but like I said Im not just here for the loot, Im here to play the game and work with others.
