Where is toughness/crit damage/power for example? Hell, even soldier mod isn’t available (toughness/precision/power) wtf? Why… This limits already limited amount of builds in the game.
Soldier is Power/Thoughness/Vitality and it’s available.
Well, most MMORPGs longevity comes not from their crappy combat system but from the addictive grind designed to keep you around playing for a long time. This doesn’t need to be the norm, GW2 could be the one to change that.
Too bad combat in PvE so far is bad. The only part that works is solo PvE because it’s designed to be easy and doable by anybody. But group content? Most dungeon encounters are plain bad. Chaotic unstructured messes that only work through lack of trinity either because you can roflstomp DPS the mobs with warriors or you got a guardian or two around to allow you to survive long enough.
Fact : GW2 combat still has the holy trinity around. It’s just that guardian is both tank and healer in a single package and the rest are DPS, some good (Warrior), others bad (the rest)
Sigils are tradable, runes are soulbound. It IS weird.
i know that it is not much armor but if i sacrifice all my dmg only to can survive few seconds longer how will i be able to kill anything ?
And why my “no armor” is not problem against any other class ?
You expected a single build to be perfect against every single opponents?
Your “no armor” is a problem against backstab thieves because they pray on such builds. They are the strongest counter to the pure glass cannon builds.
Only the Smokelords hurt that much to twoshot people. So you kill them first and that’s all.
Then the bot only needs to remember at which coordinates he last DCed and compare it to the coordinates he is after he reconnects to find the offset.
2.1k armor is like, no armor at all and little to no points in toughness.
Condition damage + Epidemic Necro = fun vs groups of trash mobs.
But it does get lackluster against most bosses.
You know that in the Bloodcliff Quarry you can play Whack-a-dredge with a “Mole Whacker” weapon? :p
I assume Anet is aware of the fact that this makes it impossible to do Crucible of Eternity on my server? Because even if I do find a group, chances are high I’m the only one who can stay alive through the Project Alpha boss phases…
On a side note, does this mean Glyph of Renewwal will once again be able to res defeated players?
You do understand that since graveyard zerging was so easy, a lot of players didn’t even bother to learn how to survive correctly in boss fights. Preventing that will cause more players to play better.
Just curious here, will Infiltrator’s Arrow (SB skill #5) work the same way? I’m usually on my guardian or warrior for dungeons and haven’t taken my thief to CoE yet.
Yes. You just need to find the right spot to put your mouse cursor, then you don’t move, you do two shortbow #5 in a row and finish with the Shadow Step skill and it’s clear.
Remove your armor anyway until you get your marks because you’ll shadowstep right into a laser often.
The healing stat is intentionally scaled to discourage full support as is the reason we will likely never see a set with no offensive stats on it.
Well there IS some MF/Toughness/Vitality gear to loot in the Fractals. The mere though that someone in my groups might be using that makes me sad :/
A nice change would simply be,
1) Thieves cannot heal and remove conditions under stealth,
With that much drawbacks to stealth, I’d want at least the ability to hit people without breaking it :o
At least.. hmmm
Maybe even give you the ability to kill a few people in wvw just by logging in. It would also keep things easy and would not affect all those unskilled players that think they are gods because of a bad design.
A ridiculous nerf should be compensated by a ridiculous buff, that’s why.
You do understand that such a change would be stupid right? No heal in stealth :
- Hide in Shadows give the thief a regeneration boon to heal a little. This skill needs to be redone
- A trait gives the thief and all his allies the regeneration boon when the thief stealths them. This trait is now non functional and needs to be replaced
- A trait gives the thief the explicit ability to remove conditions on himself as long as he stays in stealth. This trait is now non functional and needs to be replaced
- A trait causes the thief to gain health while he’s in stealth. This trait is now non functional and needs to be replaced
- Shadow Refuge heals friendly users in the area. This skill lost half is functionality and needs to be retuned.
And the best part : you can now use stealth to grief people around you :
- Someone is using a long cast heal or condition removal skill? No problem, just use “Blinding Powder” and the skill now does nothing and is wasted!
- The thief is in need of some healing, condition removal and an escape? Let’s cast Hide in Shadows. And right during cast that thief loses HP down to 25% left which procs that minor trait and he’s stealthed, then Hide in Shadows “wiffs” and does no healing at all and no condition removal while going into CD?
Since you didn’t mention it, it would probably also makes Shadow Refuge 100% obsolete as a tool used to heal downed friends since the friend will be in stealth and so cannot be healed at all.
A nice change would simply be,
1) Thieves cannot heal and remove conditions under stealth,

I would also love to see ascended gear be purchasable on AH/sellable on AH. If I’m going to run fractals and end up with 500000000000000000000000 rings, I might as well get some cash out of the deal.
The crap rings will have no value on AH anyway.
The very low level stuff works weird when you transmute it with higher level stuff. Sometimes it doesn’t allow you then changing the order you put the items in the transmute window, it’ll allow.
I suspect some bug at work there. Something to do with the items that don’t even have a gem/rune/sigil socket transmuted with items that have one.
Second, Lupicus doenst have a mechanic where if you dont do it in a certain way you will enter in an endless loop fighting the boss for hours and never kill it.
some players ARE NOT SPEC to melee or simply doesnt have a melee weapon on their inventory.
again, if there is only one set up for players to do a boss, then the whole idea of removing the holy trinity from the game failed right there.
Dwayna is partly DPS check, partly sparks running check. Too many players go easy mode full survivability in GW2 and complain later that some bosses are impossible and the rest has too much HP :o
Then Elementalists could be able to abuse it to make the next 15 attacks by a group of enemies miss.
Arcane Power + Elemental Surge + Chain Lightning staff auto attack.
Also, that’s not all blind does, it literally makes players unable to see stuff while the blind is active. Of course, that doesn’t work on mobs. But it’s pretty neat in PvP.
Not true. The fact is, if you put on someone 50 stacks of 2s blind, it’s not that much more powerful than giving him 100s of blind. Also, as far as I know, charge buffs like Arcane Power drain at the rate of one charge per target affected by Chain Lightning no?
Also, I don’t remember that blind effect on my screen. Probably because it only lasts 0.02s in PvP anyway with all that autoattack spam going around. And if it was too much of a bother, a little tweak and that’s fixed.
I like the 100% change more than your proposal of 50% chance which makes blind completely unreliable.
What if it stacked? Get 5 stacks of blind = your next 5 attacks will miss.
TBH, my favorite solution involes giving ascended items quality of life bonuses rather than numerical bonuses. Something I really don’t like in GW2 is the insane time cost to try multiple builds in PvE, both for equipment stats and runes. Ascended items would have been perfect and in high demand then as some kind of “same stats as exotics but you can switch the stats around as you wish”.
So many missed opportunities.
I got 2 ring drops in 4 dailies last week, funny thing is, I got the same ring twice (which is useless because you can’t equip both anyway – they are unique), I was ready to rage when I got the second one.
I never said the system is good, only that is easy to get rings, it is harder to get the rings you actually want as it is based on a whole lot of luck and RNG, but can we find a way to give ascended rings to people without ruining the Exotic tier rings?
If it was even easier why would anyone want to make/buy exotic rings?? That’s the real question here and it translates directly to how the rest of the Ascended gear rewards should be handled.
The simple existence of ascended rings already made the exotic ones useless in my eyes. My alt is perfectly fine with rare rings until I get the correct ascended one I need for them.
If ascended rings had 0 stat bonus above exotics, there wouldn’t be any issue. You’d farm ascended rings for agony resist to play higher level fractals, and if that activity had no interest in your eyes, you’d just gear with exotic rings instead.
If ascended rings were ALL made from upgrading an exotic one through the mystic forge, then the exotic tier wouldn’t be useless either.
Somehow, they made it that way instead. Ascended items is a crude rush job and GW2 would have been better without them in the first place.
Two weeks just for two rings.
If you got two rings in two weeks then you were just unlucky… It depends on how many dailies you do, they don’t take much time at 10-18 and some Fractals can even take 10 minutes, if you are lucky and get the “fast ones” you can finish your whole run in less than 1 hour. If you do one run per day that’s 14 dailies in 2 weeks, so you will get 1 Ring with Pristine Fractal Relics (10) and at least 2 or 3, maybe even more, from the Jade Maw.
You want to know how many rings I got in fractals so far? And how many of those rings had the stats I wanted?
I got 7 rings so far, 0 with the stats I’m looking for. It was before the added the fractal relics to buy them. As far as I know, the odds of you getting any useful ring at all after 20 runs is close to 0. And in fact, 2 weeks isn’t enough to get the two rings you need, it’s closer to three weeks yeah.
Most dungeons take 1 hour to do two paths with competent teams. Two paths per day, 14 days, enough for a full armor set and one weapons.
How much easier than it is now???? It is already so easy to get those Ascended Rings that there is absolutely no reason to craft/buy Exotic Rings anymore. Just get a character to level 10 Fractals and in less than 2 weeks you can dress all your alts (even those you haven’t created yet) with all the rings you will ever need.
Two weeks just for two rings. In two weeks doing only 2 dungeon paths you can get a full armor set. Just for those two rings you double the time it takes to get a “endgame” gear set. Then two accessories, then the necklace, then the armor and weapons? We are looking at what, 3 months to get just ONE set of gear for ONE alt once all the ascended stuff is here? That’s insane.
Early on, the developers used a phrase – “easy to learn, hard to master.” I find that a pretty accurate description of the game and a good design philosophy that allows more people to enjoy the game.
It’s more like “Easy to learn, hard to master, nothing to use your master skills on anyway because nothing is hard”
The skill used to be immune to stun removal skills. It’s definitively a different CC type than all those that trigger the anti CC traits.
It was nerfed to be removable before but in the original plan, it’s supposed to be a stun that is harder to counter than all other stuns yes. For your question you’ll have to ask ANet about that, only they have the answer.
Invisibility is not invulnerability by a long shot. Except in troll land I suppose.
My main gripe with Ascended gear is that the grind required to get one piece will pretty much make sure you’ll never play around with builds. Want to turn your maxed Power warrior into a maxed Condition Damage warrior? Sure, just get 300 ectos and 1500 t6 mats!
GW1 was all about build-making and experimentation, but now it looks like you’ll be locked into a single build type in GW2. I don’t see a way out of this situation without a radical change to the way gear works in PvE.
Ah, I didn’t see your post and I really agree with it. The fixed stats in the gear is what is really bothering me because it gets in the way of varying the experience and experimenting. And farming a set of gear swap isn’t THAT cheap, and it takes LOTS of room in your inventory and fiddling.
The sPvP stat system is perfect and should have been applied in PvE too : farm exotic weapon for base damage, exotic armor for base armor and one amulet for stat boosts. Then farm ascended rings for agony resist for example? Nice.
And of course, rune and sigils can either be removed for free without breaking anything, or are so cheap and abundant you can replace them a couple times per day for little to no cost.
I was fine on my necro, elementalist and a mesmer could not even get close to their targets. Those critters sometimes spawn as vets.
Oo I never saw them do that. And if that happens, ask for help from your group, roflstomp them and make them respawn again as normal mobs.
Besides, you are supposed to be able to solo vets with a couple adds in this game. It happens often enough in skill challenges for example.
What title would you want?
My vote? “The Puzzler”….a slight jab at The Riddler from Batman.
You mean, “The Plumber”?
Hmm… I think the gloves are actually from the “Named” armor sets which you can also buy on the TP.
It’s the same. It’s the “only gotten through random drop exotic” skin. Any exotic armor that is gotten through world drops like that, no matter the level has that skin.
WeI purged it with no chat. Think this is hard? Good luck with the swamp fractal.
actually CoF path 3 was harder for me than the swamp fractal. All that one requires is a portal mesmer and people with some speed. CoF path 3 lantern part requires tank builds to keep a few of those pixies or hell knows what they are alive, kill them at the same time with others and immediately start lighting the lantern.
Tank builds? Let’s not be too hasty XD
If you are a DPS build and somehow cannot survive dodging one telegraphed ranged attack every 5s, you drop aggro then burst down the little critter from 100% to 0% in 3s.
Very simple : Ascended items should not be better than exotics outside of agony situations.
Which venoms are used in this build for dungeons? They seem kinda useless to me compared to the effort they need.
It’s not so much for the venoms as it is for the traits that affect venoms.
Venomous Strength and Leeching Venoms to be precise.
Ie: choose the venoms that have the most charges and not those that have the most “useful” effects …
The event requires a decent number of people
Yeah, something like 3-4 people. How will you ever get that many people to enter a dungeon??!?
sure they are. dark age of camelot, aion and warhammer all had massive aoe. somehow thieves/sins did well.
I can’t tell for the others but for Aion you could hardly cast those AoEs without a target in the first place. Also, when the sins got Shadow Walk and were invisible 5 minutes every 3 minute, how could you even tell when to use those AoEs when? My spider senses are tingling, AoE! It was a sure way to get reported for radar hacking.
In GW2, most thieves do in combat stealth as the game designed it which would cause the stealth to get broken each time he does it. Ie, it’d nerf stealth into uselessness.
yes we were, it just didnt go too well especially with one guy having a hard time to kill his mob.
The only difficult part of this torch event is that if you have only one player that fails, he cannot be carried anyway by the rest of the group.
Everyone needs to be able to kill at least one normal mob solo on is own and click on a torch.
Other games seem to do just fine with stealth breaking on damage or on them doing damage. I don’t understand why Anet feels the need to make stealth far more powerful in this game vs other games who have years of pvp experience, particularly since this game already gives extra stealth from culling. It just isn’t logical. Since this is a thread about thieves and their game play, I hope this isn’t deleted too.
Other games aren’t choke full of PBAoE, ground targeted AoE and basic autoattacks that can be used without target and hits anything in a huge cone in front of the player.
It would also make the Dagger 5 skill C&D practically non functional as it is since it’d be impossible to get a hit without getting booted out of stealth 0.2s latter by some random mashed attack button.
Just tried to do this for an hour with a group on Teamspeak to coordinate.
Seriously who thought the lighting the lanterns section was a good idea?
You have to win the lotto in perfectly timing the spawn rate for each of 5 groups with lighting the lanterns at exactly the same second.
This requirement for millisecond perfect timing needs to be fixed and make this a bit more reasonable for people to complete
Thanks
Seriously, the mobs only respawn when their group of 3 is killed and even so it takes them like 20s for that. More than enough to synchronize and activate the switch all together, even if you got some slowpoke in the group that takes ages to kill his adds.
When was that change? I saw those barracuda like, weeks ago already. Also, just ignore them. The boss respawns them often anyway.
The 20 player limit for portals has failed to deal with the mass portal/render abuse.
It was never meant to do that in the first place anyway.
overwhelming evidence
Let’s not be so hasty
I have three items I’m wondering where I can find in the game. The first one in this armor, I know it’s Zhu’s armor skin, but is there another place I can find it cheaper?
The Zhu armor skin isn’t specific. It’s the “world drop medium armor exotic” skin. Try to buy any medium armor that isn’t level 80 but 79 or lower and you should get it.

I made from level 35/40 to level 80 nearly always doing dungeon explorable runs through pug announces I found all other the place. Ascalon Catacombs in particular was always busy and always easy to find a group ! Then later I switched mostly to Twilight Arbor to get some more desirable tokens. I don’t see how you can have such a problem unless you are playing in a dead world. Try the http://gw2lfg.com/ for this particular problem then.
The only time I got kicked from a group for my level was when I mistook the Sorrow’s Embrace level with another dungeon :p And I wasn’t level a particularly useful alt class like a guardian either.
Divinity is a bad rune set anyway so you already saved money there :p
Try something like Runes of the Ogre, Scholar, or some combo meant to improve Might or Fury.
Please no enrage timers. This is one of the lamest ways to enforce “difficulty” imaginable.
I also don’t see why other people care so much if some PUGs use zombie tactics to tackle content or not. Presumably you don’t do it, or need to. Why does it matter that other people do or not?
No, it’s a good thing. It’s far too “easy” to just gear up in full soldier set and tickle a boss to death currently in the safest way possible. How can you make a boss dangerous to an army of P/V/T protection+heal spammling guardian and warriors? By giving the boss (and silver mobs) attacks that can actually dent their huge armor. And the result is that anyone not geared in P/V/T just gets OS by anything that moves in dungeons? No fun at all.
And then people start complaining that bosses have huge HP pools. No kidding! Maybe if they geared for damage a little more and learned to dodge the attacks instead.
I say, yes for enrage timers. Their presence will push the players to actually improve their play style and make the fights shorter at the same time.
The only good use of VA is to synergy with the Leeching Venom build and get a very good burst of armor ignoring damage on demand, provided your allies don’t waste their stacks.
You can even make it happen solo with Ogre runes, Ambush trap and Thief"s Guild to make your own allies on the spot. It’s surprisingly effective against objects with HP bars too since life leech attacks work on them. If you are built for Power (which you should to improve LL effect), you get that way the fastest treb burst build thief can get by far.
(edited by stof.9341)
Runes ARE too expensive and you cannot get them back from the armor you put them in without breaking the armor itself. This is just another bad barrier to experimenting with various builds and are one of the worse part of GW2.
On the other hand, swiftness allows you greater range on those leaps.
why is chilled only half as effective on thieves?
it slows them like anyone else but with no weapon cooldowns the 66% cooldown increase is useless.
chilled should decrease initiative gain by that 66% instead for thieves
Because slowing a thief is twice more effective at getting them killed than other classes? :p
