PvE- Grolex (Warrior)
PvP rank: 20 Rating: 1864 (season 7)
I have no idea how you think it wasn’t great to watch. There were so many kills, there were actually some comebacks (including one absolutely incredible one that even if all other games were awful it would have made the finals worth watching), and there were close matches. I also loved seeing the search and rescue play in the second semi final(I really don’t want it nerfed now just because of how awesome it was to watch in the pro league even though I did before). I will admit that the first semi final could have been more exciting and close but the other 2 matches were awesome to watch. Maybe people say they don’t like it because they simply don’t like the concept of gw2 e-sports but as someone who does really like watching the e-sport events that are held, the finals were amazing and I quite literally can’t wait for season 2 which will use the same meta.
Question for you, what happened to that caused the come back?
The one on temple? Vermilion got a load of kills on abjured players and managed to decap all their points so with about 1 minute left it was 1 cap to 0 in favour of vermilion and they also got tranquility and held a 3 cap for the rest of the game to win 500-477.
In total it was about a 200 point comeback. This is exactly what I mean, you have no idea what exactly caused the come back.
What skills did they use during that key moment? How much was the damage? How much was the sustain? Was it good positioning? Was it bad positioning? What mistakes were made?
To be honest I don’t really care about key skills used at key moments, what matters is the kill, it does not matter how it is done. It is, in my opinion, nothing to get excited about or even for the commentators to mention if one player takes another to 50% with one skill because which skills that were used do not matter, it is the result of those skills that does. As for the good or bad positioning, you can tell where players are going by looking at the minimap at the corner of the screen, which I often do while watching. To be honest if you want to see which skills were used you can just pay attention to the fight that is being shown on screen and watch how each individual player plays in that fight.
Really though, you are right that I don’t know which skills were timed to perfection and turned the game around but I don’t really care about that, what I cared about in that game was the kills to decap the points and the taking of tranquility. How it was done does not really matter in my opinion.

I am pretty sure that rule was for season 2. the finals are still season 1. I was also under the impression that you had to have 5 unique classes. I am not sure though and don’t really care tbh because that composition with double revenant is so entertaining to watch.

What were the team comps? I understand Toker ran revenant and Wakkey ran ele which surprises me a lot.
for the finals both teams ran ele, double rev, engi and necro.
I have to agree, that was the absolute best match of pvp I have ever watched (my previous favourite was orange vs. Abjured at the last WTS on foefire in the first round). Seriously I don’t think I will ever watch a better game of gw2 than that. I was wanting vermillion to win from the start and so glad to see them take a game in the semi final, especially like that! Amazing tournament overall.
I don’t see how this statistic can possibly be a lie. I only solo queued to legendary, playing maybe 500 games and only a few times I remember being matched against a full premade and of those matches, I won just as many as I would have against 5 solo players. The only real problem is when you get matched against a pro team and get destroyed but I never experienced that and if I did, I would have enjoyed it so much because I love watching the pro league and it feels awesome to play with/against pro league players when I have occasionally been matched against one and to engage in duals with them to see exactly how much worse than them I am, lol. Really though from my experience the statistic is not a lie and matchmaking was fine throughout the league.

As far as necros being OP is concerned, I completely disagree. On my Druid I can just do LB 4 to knock back, rapid fire to do a huge amount of damage and to immobilise with the ancient seeds trait and at the same time as rapid fire, use bristleback f2 ability which is a 100% hit due to immobilise and if that necro doesn’t have a decent amount of life force to fall back on they are dead. That combo takes maybe 5 seconds, I don’t know the exact time but an OP class would not die that easily 1v1.
As for search and rescue being OP, I do agree that it is too powerful in its current state but if it was given maybe a slight range decrees and a cast time so it could be interrupted it would still be a powerful skill but would have some way to counter it. Right now I can just do search+rescue, rampage as one for stability and almost always get the res. If that is not enough I can just use signet of stone and get the revive even with 3 players trying to cleave the downed body. If it was interrupted however, there would be no way to save that player so I think that is a good change to make, or maybe not, I don’t really understand how to balance.
I completely disagree that it stops people trying if they are losing, if anything it will make them try harder. For example with the old system if you are 150-400 down and the enemy has a 3 cap, people will just go for a Lord rush for no purpose but to hopefully lose less pips by getting over 300 points instead of trying to take back the points and making a comeback, which I HAVE seen a couple of from those kind of positions so it is not impossible. I also think it is a good change because it will encourage people to not give up and always try to win because if they don’t, they will lose a pip. I personally never give up and always try my absolute hardest to win even when something like 450-100 down because I still believe we can win but the problem usually is that nobody else on my team thinks that we can. I think a change where a loss of any description loses you a pip would help this and get people to try to win until the very end of the game.
I just looked at the new website and it is awesome, definitely increased my already very high hype levels for the finals (seriously I have been counting down the days to the finals for the past couple of weeks). I like the team information part where you can see who is on that team as well as facts about them. The article about it that you linked is awesome too, I really like how much detail it went into about each team and how they would win/lose.
I admit that they should have started this sooner, but I do not understand why people are not hyped for the finals. My hype levels are absolutely through the roof right now for it, as much as they we 3 days before HoT came out. I love the new website, I LOVE the new highlight videos that are on there and I can’t wait for the finals, which I have been aware of when they were since the start of the pro league, so there is no advertising issue there if someone genuinely interested in the pro league is fully aware of when the finals are.
I really hope the finals are exciting and that season 2 is just as good and I really hope that Anet do not abandon their e-sports like some people have asked for (who I hope is the vocal minority) because that would disappoint me more that HoT being removed from my account forever, it seriously would.
Overall though while I admit that it was a mistake to start advertising 4 days before the finals, I am still so excited for the event and for season 2.
The no class stacking rule was probably made to stop the double Mesmer, double revenant that all teams ran in the pro league. As much as I absolutely love the pro league and am so hyped I can’t believe it for the finals, if i am honest the meta could have been a bit more entertaining in season 1 so I hope this rule works for season 2.
I think class stacking should be allowed because in solo queue, I have found that composition means very little towards the result of a match. I mean that in 99% of solo queue games, a change in class composition will not affect who wins and loses because most games are either fairly boring games in which the losing team reaches about 300 points but knew they had no hope the entire game because no matter what they do they can never get ahead of the other team. A change in class composition will not somehow turn that match around. The only way to change the result of that match is for the losing team to get better. Even the very close games (500-475 or closer) are probably not affected by what classes the teams are running. What usually decides those games is someone making a bad decision because they get very nervous near the end (I did that a lot in the league so I lost maybe 8/10 of the extremely close games I played). Based on this I think that class stacking should be allowed, plus it makes fun games like one today in which I faced a team of 5 condi necros which I lost about 500-400.
Most annoying fight for me is the golem mk 2 in mount maelstrom. Those insta-kill Lightning fields are the worst feature of any world boss in my opinion and then I have to run back from the waypoint, usually at least 3 times per fight for me. That is the fight that makes me understand why a lot of people just lay dead on bosses rather than using a nearby waypoint.
Last time I felt ‘thrilled’ in pve was when I defeated the chak gerent for the first time back when it was extremely difficult. Before that it was when I beat dragon’s stand for the first time. The only things that I really feel like that for in pve are huge world bosses that require organisation and I think it is such a shame that so many of them are so easy now. I also had the same feeling when I watched the HoT cinematic after you complete the final episode of living world season 2. In fact that was the single best feeling i have ever had in the game, watching that cutscenes, though I am not sure that can be counted as a pve moment.
That said I get the same feeling in pvp all the time. Just today I won a game on foefire 500-497 with a lord rush that I ended up completing while I was in the down state and the last person alive on the Lord (if I died then the game was lost). It feels amazing to win games like that, especially in ranked when it is available and I hope that pve will be able to give me that feeling again in future.
I only do dailies for the AP. Once I reach the AP cap on dailies later this year I will never do any of them again. The only ones I end up completing will be by chance. Because f this, that is what I believe the purpose of dailies is- a steady income of AP provided you log in every day and the cap is there so it won’t be for your entire gw2 life that you have to do achievements that you don’t want to every single time you log in.
I have most fun playing standard shoutbow Druid, but with marauder or even berserker amulet instead of the normal choices. It feels so good to absolutely melt a thief or any other very squishy build from 1500 range with longbow 2 and I almost never die as I can just stand on the edges of a fight and never get focus fired, picking off targets with my longbow and whenever someone on my team goes down, I move in slightly, use search and rescue and get them back up. I am also almost unkillable in a 1v1 with marauder because of staff/celestial avatar to heal me back up. I probably only enjoy this because it is op, but it is what I will be using in the league when it starts again.
I really like being able to play skyhammer and spirit watch now. During season 1 8 out of 10 games were on forest or foefire. Those are the two worst maps imo, mainly because I had to play them CONSTANTLY. Skyhammer is my favourite map at the moment, I forgot how good it feels to get an awesome knock back off the edge to get a kill. Spirit watch is great too because it just adds to the variety that was seriously lacking in season one for me.
I agree. I hate dragon ball, and I rarely say that I truly hate something in game. Admittedly this may be because I forced myself to get my 50 wins in 5 days for the 50AP, but I honestly don’t believe I have had a time when I have dreaded logging in and playing as much as I did in those 5 days of farming dragon ball. It was such a huge relief when I finally got that 50th win and new I wouldn’t have to do that for another year.
Although I have said this, I think the concept of the game is quite good and honestly I just think it isn’t really my thing, not that it is just plain bad. The most annoying thing for me was if I died I lost all of my skills and had to run around avoiding all fights (very hard in dragon ball) until I got my skills back or I would just get demolished. I agree with the OP that an improvement should be made so that matches are not decided after the first fights due to the losers of those fights losing all their skills. Really though it isn’t so bad and I think my dislike for it comes from me forcing myself to farm it when I would have rather done literally anything else in game other than that.
I am glad dailies have a cap even though it will stop me getting the full set of radiant/hellfire armour for a long while. What the cap does is make achievements about who has actually done the most in game rather than just who has done the most dailies. Another reason why I like it is that when I hit the cap in just under a year, for the first time since I got the game I will be able to log in and not have to worry about getting dailies done, which can be very annoying some days.
I have seen a pet moa called ‘lawn moa’ which I thought was hilarious. I am pretty sure there is a fair few called that though because I have seen people mentioning the name before.
I noticed that 1 of the brews has a name that really suggests that a big event will be returning this year and likely as an annual festival- the crown pavilion! The name of the brew for August mentions the queen jubilee and given that that is both the anniversary month of the release of gw2 and the month in which the event was originally released I take this as confirmation that the event will FINALLY return. I also though dragon bash would return next month but that brew name is more than likely just about the lunar new year festival.
However I was so excited when I saw the name of that brew and I can’t wait for the return of the crown pavilion! Hopefully they have added something new to it seeing as it has been closed for what would be over 2 years (I think) since it was last in game.
I disagree with player voted kicks. For a start it could be abused but i am not going to go into that and assume everyone uses it responsibly. For a start, what is stopping afk leeches from going somewhere where they simply will not be found by anyone? I can think of many such places in tangled depths and a fair few in AB and VB. If a person really just wanted to get event credit by going afk if the only way to stop them was a player-initiated kick, they would just go to a very rarely used/hard to reach place and afk there and the likelihood is that nobody will even find them.
As for an automatic kick system where if you are afk for a certain length of time, I like that idea to an extent, but the timer would have to be a lot longer than only 10 minutes because there has been a few times where I have been afk in one of the new zones for longer than that and not got any reward whatsoever, which is a good thing in my opinion, as I would delete any loot I got while afk if I was able to.
A better system than a map kick system would be that the people not doing events just don’t get any rewards at all. That would allow people to afk for a bit if they have to and would stop people ‘leeching’ rewards from events they are not participating in.
I’m my opinion there was nothing wrong with season 1 that won’t be ‘wrong’ with season 2 and other future seasons. The bunker meta was fun for me because I do not die constantly and I can really contribute to my team by holding 2 people on a point instead of Regularly dying in 1v1s that I should win, like I used to. The pip loss system is awful yes, I have never felt worse when playing any video game in my life than when I earn 3 pips with hard-earned victories and then to lose all 3 in one game because of an afk/dc or just a big loss. However, I accept that this system needs to stay, otherwise I would just not even care if I win or lose and would pay much less attention to playing if it was removed because I know I will get to legendary eventually no matter what I do. Leagues really would become a ‘who can farm the most?’ Competition if pip loss was removed entirely and that defeats the whole purpose of why they were introduced. As for getting matched against pre-made teams as solo queue, it isn’t much of a problem because I only encountered a few and I played hundreds of games since leagues started so I really don’t mind either way if the ability to be matched with 5-man premades is kept or removed.
Really the only thing that can be changed about season 2 is the meta and the matchmaking system, neither of which were an issue for me at all. You will end up with a 50% win/loss ratio no matter what the matchmaking system bases its decisions on though so you could argue that they can’t even change that.

Personally, I really like the addition of super rare, super expensive drops from bosses. It gives me the motivation to do them. I already have enough gold to buy pretty much anything on the tp except the egg sac at the moment so more gold/mats in rewards do not matter to me any more. Items like this are what would encourage people in my situation to participate in certain events. What I would prefer even to this is if the item was account bound. Now THAT would get me farming the gerent even as much as I can and would make it so only the extremely lucky few have the item, not people who spend a ton of real-life money on the game.
Overall I am very happy with the decision to add this item and would like items like this to be added in the future, but make them accounts bound.
I has the same experience when I first got to diamond. It took me a week or so to even get out of the first tier because of the constant losing I experienced and I was playing about 15 games/day even then. After that I started to make a bit of progress and I slowly started to gain tiers. At one point I got 3 pips away from legendary but then I had an awful losing streak and went all the way back to tier 1. Instead of giving up I just continued to play 15-20 games per day and just hope I got lucky from there (I only had a week of the season left after that. Following a really good run of results I finally got to legendary 3 days before the season ended. I must have played about 400 or more games in diamond league alone just to get to legendary.
My point is that even if you are a not a very good player (I am not) you WILL get to legendary no matter what if you play enough games. I know not everyone has the time to play 400 games in a month but if you are in solo queue and seem unable to get to legendary, the only answer to that problem is to farm more.
Tier 7 diamond atm, hoping to reach legendary. I played almost exclusively bunker tempest since getting to diamond and before then I played tempest and also Druid and scrapper. I played DH to get through low divisions but it just became useless to me after that due to getting focus down and not having the skill to survive that.
I agree there needs to be more maps in ranked. I am tired of playing the same 4 maps (same 2 most of the time, I get forest and legacy at least 7 out of 10 games and sometimes I get all 10 on those 2 maps). I would happily have spirit watch, sky hammer, courtyard and the whole concept of stronghold maps gone forever if it meant there could be a single new conquest map for ranked. The game NEEDS more map diversity in ranked in order to hold my interest in actually playing (rather than farming) pvp. Additionally, as the pro league and other GW2 e-sports events are very important to me at the moment, I have to say that it would be extremely interesting to watch the teams trying to adapt to a new map layout and secondary mechanic. I would also like it if it was a mechanic that must be used regularly as well as in the pro league bosses on forest are only ever really killed at 475-475 types of score line, foefire Lord rushed are rarely even attempted and the trebuchet is completely ignored on kyhlo. I don’t care what the new map is as long as it is available in ranked from the start and is also used in the pro league because that would make both playing and watching pvp so much better for me.
Right now, I log on, grind pvp leagues for hours so I can hopefully make legendary before the end of the season and then I either do a tarir and chak gerent event (chak because I enjoy it, tarir for the title) and then I log off. I think I am probably playing as much now as I was when HoT came out (at least 4 hours a day) but right now it’s mainly just far,I got pvp that if I am honest I would much rather not do right now. That is my own fault though that I feel the need to keep playing when I don’t want to and to be honest the fact I am playing a lot is a sign that they have finally introduced something worth grinding for which can only be a good thing.
I would like this system as I only have about 3 friends to play pvp with an I am on a lot more than they are, so occasionally I do group with a good pug group if they ask, a system like this would be much better for forming groups however because a lot of the time people leave the map before anyone can ask in team chat and it is hard to find the player then. I think grouping up with pugs should be encouraged by Anet because it can allow people to make new friends and even create a pvp team of their own to play with which can only be a good thing.
26th January I would think, when the regular pvp league ends.
I thought the pro league has been amazing and this week has been one of the best ( I have only seen EU, NA is on at 1am for me so that isn’t really a possibility so I watch that after it has finished). CC vs. orange was a fantastic matchup for me because anything 2-1 is awesome and I am glad to see car crashed win (nothing against orng, I just love an upset). Also more guns running 2 warr, thief and dragon-hunter was amazing to me and I would have loved to see them win with that composition. So yes, lots of excitement in general this week for me and I have no doubt that next week will be as well. I don’t really care if there is a bunker meta, I watch to see exciting games of pvp between the world’s best pvp teams, and that is exactly what I get most of the time. I can’t wait to see who wins the whole thing.
A few times I have died to fall damage after escaping a fight onto the roof of the clock tower and then jumping off like an idiot before I let myself regen because I forget fall damage is even a thing in pvp.
I also remember there was one time I died to one of the bosses on Niflhel while I was typing in team chat thinking I was in a safe area.
There is a lot more general stupidity that I have done at one time or another in pvp but I can’t think of anything else specific, lol.
I noticed this as well and I have had some matches where I have been matched with players in not even nearly the same league as me. One game I had 4 diamonds and a ruby on my team and the opposition had 2 sapphires, 2 emeralds and a ruby. To be honest I’d love this system to stay- I have been farming low division players for a lot of my games and have made 2 full tiers of progress in diamond just today, nearly at legendary now and I hope I can make it before the season ends. I suppose this is just me getting lucky with the lopsided matches going in my favour though. Again, I’d love to be able to earn pips this easily all the time but I guess it needs to be changed for better matches (though I have had a couple of extremely close and fun games, they are not the majority). I gained 3 pips though with a 500-0 victory with my opponent having 3 diamonds and 2 rubies and my team having 2 diamonds and 3 sapphires so I suppose that leagues do not mean that much in some cases.
I don’t want there to be a way to disable the symbols. That would take away any motivation for me to pvp because I have no way to show off my achievements to other people. Same thing with titles and legendary weapons/valuable skins, if people could just choose not to see them then they would be worth absolutely nothing to me. I know, I know, most people couldn’t care less but i certainly do when I see other diamond league players/people with legendary weapons or the spirit smith backpiece like I have and I want to show everybody what I have achieved in game. If I couldn’t it would just feel pointless to me.
I agree that there is some sort of curse for the 4th pip. Back when i was in emerald and sapphire I always reached 4 pips with ease, but I ended up losing that 4th pip at least once every single time (I can’t remember a single instance in which I got it first time). To me, it’s just about keeping trying and you’ll get it eventually. Yes you may have to endure streaks of losing 20 out of 21 games which happened to me once, but if you play enough games you will get to ruby eventually.
Really, I think the issue with the league system is that 99% of games in solo queue are basically a coin flip and the game is decided before it even begins due to the skill of your teammates but you will get lucky with that last pip in the end.
I really like watching the pro league and I am so excited for it coming back on Monday. I have been really missing watching it the last 3 weeks. I admit the current meta isn’t the most exciting, but I think enjoyment comes from how close and unpredictable the matches are rather than the style of play used. I was watching the games from the most recent world tournament series not long ago (I wasn’t interested in gw2 esport events back then) and they were mostly very exciting because they were so close and went to 3 games a lot of the time. The pro league is different, there is a clear difference in how good the top teams are and how good the bottom teams are which results in quite a lot of one-sided, 2-0 victories. However even in this meta I have to say I watched one of the most exciting games on gw2 I have ever seen in week 3 EU- orange logo vs. More guns than roses. The third game of that matchup… How can you say you didn’t find that extremely exciting and entertaining? You just didn’t know which way that was going until the end. That is what makes for great viewing, not the meta at that time.
Overall I would say that there are a few really boring games in the pro league, but that is down to the teams that are playing each other and how closely matched they are and not the bunker meta. If you get some really close games in the bunker meta, I can’t see how that would be less exciting than a fairly predictable, one-sided game in a different meta.
Yes I agree with this and what I want to know is, doesn’t this cause problems for who the top 5 teams actually are to get into the pro league qualifiers? Do they just ignore repeat entries from the same guild, and I’m doing so reach below no. 10 on the leader board to find the true ‘top 5’?
I hate foefire and I was also curious as to why it is almost always voted for the most when it comes up as one of the three options. I can’t stand it because it is the only map in which by far the weaker team can win due to the possibility to a Lord rush, i suppose this applies to temple to, but much less so because you could just get 2 points you get from tranquility instantly decapped. I have lost several games in which my team was better and I lost because of a Lord rush and I have also won games in which my team was much weaker because of this, obviously that’s great for me if that happens, but I can’t help thinking a 5 man rush as soon as you get to 350 with your opponent 100 points ahead of you isn’t a great idea for a way to win a game of pvp.
Personally, my favourite map is temple, because I think the map layout is better than any others because I like the vertical layout and the spots for ranged players to attack in relative safety, mainly on mid but also on the two side points to a lesser extent. I think it has the most interesting secondary mechanic (deciding how many people to commit to stillness/tranquility and how many should stay to hold/decal points makes for interesting gameplay).
After that my second favourite map is Niflhel and then third is kyhlo because the trebuchet is rather annoying but by far my least favourite is foefire and I really didn’t understand the reasons people had for liking it until I read this thread.
Yes the year of ascension achievements will be obtainable in every pvp season this year.
I log in, get my log in daily chest, if its laurels I buy t6 mats with them and then I do the quickest pve daily I can and then get the other 2 by playing maybe 5-15 games of pvp every day now that leagues have started. After this I usually do one tarir event and one tangled depths event. If there’s still time left after I go and do a bit more pvp (I have lost interest in pve content for now because I have done it all now) and then log off. Much better than the log in→ do dailies→ farm gold for a while→ log off than I had before HoT!
I understand why it is like it is, however in its current state it is due to random chance much more than skill, though you can guess how much damage one big burst will do and try to get that last 5% in one hit, but again it is just a guess. I have to say when I am in a close game on Niflhel and it goes down to bosses there is nothing more frustrating than to lose a game because my opponent got the last hit on the boss, not even losing to a 5 man Lord rush on foefire when you were on the brink of 500 points and the opponent barely scraped 350.
I do agree though that giving it to whoever dealt the most damage would result in less interesting gameplay because once a team has damaged the boss to 49% , there is no point even trying to steal it because it is already theirs. I am not sure how exactly it could be changed to make it fair but I have to say I don’t really like the current way of how landing the last hit scores you the kill.
I would like to see the world’s and the pact’s (what is left of it) reaction to mordremoth’s defeat. I would like to see what Rytlock did to become a revenant and I want to see the story move into new explorable zones. I will be disappointed however if season 3 focuses just on the aftermath of mordremoth, i want to see the story move towards another elder dragon. Gameplay-wise, I would like to see a change in direction from map-wide meta events building towards several mini-bosses (verdant brink, tarir, tangled depths) to complete it and introduce truly challenging single boss encounters which involve the entire map but are not just a generic Zerg-fest burning the boss down with no risk of failure.
Tbh from what I have seen class composition matters much, much less than players actually knowing what to do in solo queue. I have won several matches with 2 thieves or warriors and lost many with a pro league meta composition (mes, ele, 2 revs, engineer). If I see 2 or even 3 warriors/thieves before a match starts I do get a bit pessimistic but a lot of the time players do know what they are doing playing those classes and I am pleasantly surprised by the result.
I have noticed not many afkers at all, however when I do they are always in my team, typical, haha. To be honest I find afkers extremely funny because of what they are usually saying in team chat, I can hardly even play sometimes because of how much I am laughing at the rage and arguing! I had one guy say before game starts say ‘there just one rule- you go far I go afk’ so of course someone goes far and true to his word he goes afk for the rest of the game and the funny thing is we had a decent lead when the guy went far- lol! I had two guys raging at each other today for an entire match because one didnt res the other when he was downed and all the while they were both afk!
Enough of that though, really the only thing you can do if it annoys you is report them because they are making ranked matches unfair which is not a good thing as it prevents their team’s progress through leagues, though from. My experience it is not such a huge problem.

I also had this problem for the activities. I just kept trying and I always get in after several tries, so not such a serious issue, though it is annoying when it sends me back the the crown pavilion waypoint rather than the instance entrance.
What I want to talk about here is why HoT was a bit of a disappointment to me (living world season 2 was to an extent but much less so) compared to living world season 1 and why I much prefer temporary content to permanent content. Bear in mind that opinion is coming from someone who has a lot of time to play every day and will not be in a situation where I miss an event no matter how little time it is available for, I do understand some people are not able to take part in all temporary content however.
Since maybe 2 weeks ago I seem to have completely lost interest in heart of thorns. All I am doing in game at the moment it pvp leagues and the occasional tarir to slowly advance the achievement for doing it 100 times. If HoT can’t keep me Interested for even 2 months, but living world kept me interested the whole way through, there is clearly a problem. I have done everything there is to do In The expansion already. To be honest I had done everything within one month, never mind 2. I think the fortnightly, temporary content realeases in season 1 kept me interested because I can happily farm the same thing for 2 weeks, because it is new and I know it will be gone soon so I must enjoy it there and then. If I know it will be there forever I will be more likely to rush through it and never touch it again because I just can’t be bothered at that time and I know I can eventually force myself to do it again several months down the line for achievements.
This is what I feel like with HoT. I still have 4 more story achievements to do. Will I be doing them any time soon? I doubt it. I will probably do them after living world season 3 start date is announced because I don’t want to be messing round with HoT with new content actually available likely for the first time in at least 4 months by the time living world starts again. With season 1 I felt the pressure to play the new content because I can’t leave it to whenever I find the willpower to make myself do it, I need to experience all the content either in those 2 weeks or not at all and that is a much better feeling for me.
Even though season 2 was the regular releases like season 1, it was not as good because it was permanent and I felt no pressure to do it. I just grinded out all the achievements and didn’t touch it until the next release. If the releases were temporary I would have taken much more time to enjoy the release because I would have known I had to do it right then.
Finally, I would love to see living world season 3 be temporary and I would hate to see another expansion (10 months of waiting for 1 month of content, if that) because a temporary event just feels more special to be part of than a permanent one. A year down the line you can look back at your historical achievements and think ‘I remember that event, it was amazing’. In fact I was doing that very thing for season 1 yesterday.
I do know that temporary content does exclude some people that can’t play for that period of time, but this is just my personal opinion so I am not considering that for this post.
P.S. I know this is a very long post but I just wanted to share my feelings about the direction GW2 content is going and seeing what you al, think about it too.
I am extremely happy metabattle exists. Without it I would never even be close to competitive in pvp. I am fairly skilled at actual gameplay (not one of the best though by any means) but I have literally no clue what I would do to make a build that is even close to viable. I wouldn’t know which traits are good, which weapons are good or which utility skills are good so I would end up deciding based on guesses, because I wouldn’t know any better even now. What metabattle does is allows me to use a build that is actually useful to myself and the team and allows me to be on a level playing field with the other people who use good meta builds.
I would like to see statistics for the season, I would find it very interesting. The most important stat for me would be the percentage of people that reached each league. I really tried- and am still trying- to grind out the leagues this season and would love to see if I am in the top 5% for example.
Tbh I haven’t paid any attention to the meta and just played whatever I felt like until recently (I didn’t understand what makes a good build or anything so I just picked random weapons and trait lines that I though looked good). But now I do try to play good builds and pay attention to the meta, I quite like the current one- I love playing celestial bunker tempest and marauder engineer. I like being able to not die all the time if I make a slight mistake which is why I like the bunker meta.
However I really enjoyed it when MM necro was a thing, I just played full zerker max damage and no one could kill me because my minions would stop them. That made me feel like a great player even though I was actually pretty terrible, lol.
