Any plans for new maps?

suffish.4150

I really want to see new maps. Not skyhammer/spirit watch (although I do want to see those in ranked) but completely new maps. It has been so long since a new map was introduced (I do not consider stronghold a new map) so i think it is time for more. At this point I would happily sacrifice living world season 3 for the devs to work on a couple of new maps. There are only 4 maps in ranked at the moment which is not enough, but adding SH and SW and then making 2 completely new maps would make 8 which I think would be a much better amount. Plus, I can’t wait to see new maps in pro league/e-sports too, that will be so awesome.

Fix the Disgusting Social Aspect of SPvP

in PvP

suffish.4150

Map chat really isn’t an issue in pvp, team chat is much more of an issue because players are almost always angry at their teammates rather than enemy team players. Even if map chat was disabled, people could just use say chat to do the same things. Map chat can be great in pvp too- when I am winning a blowout match and the enemy has given up with a score like 350-100 or when it is a 4v5 and again, the enemy team has given up, both teams sometimes just stand afk wherever on the map they like (nobody is playing anymore at this point) and just talk about stuff like how their league season 3 is going. I see this a lot and it allows teams to have conversations with each other when waiting for the game to finish.

Obviously this says something about the frequency of blowout matches but that is not my point, map chat can be used for members of both teams to have friendly conversations with each other so should not be disabled in pvp.

Toxicity in PvP - here's why.

in PvP

Posted by: suffish.4150

suffish.4150

I think the only reason that there is ‘toxicity’ in pvp is because it matters if you win or lose. If you gained a pip, the same amount of reward track progress and the same amount of gold for a loss, there would be zero toxicity because the games don’t matter. People value their pips/divisions so much that if anyone plays what a player considers badly, that player will be extremely angry because they believe that they are losing and it is not their fault. If they gain a pip for a loss, they wouldn’t care how bad their teammates are because it wouldn’t matter. Of course Anet can’t start giving pips out for losses, so there will always be toxicity in pvp. It is just not avoidable.

Yes, people who are angry at others in team chat could be banned, but that would massively reduce the player base because almost everyone has raged and someone else at least once. Only banning in the most extreme cases seems to be the right thing to do in my opinion. If people raging at you upsets you, you can turn off chat and you will never see it. I find it really funny when people rage at me, but I understand that most people would not like it so it should not be allowed.

Leagues encourage a lot of toxicity because there is much more to be gained/lost in ranked than unranked. I know that leagues cause toxicity because in unranked, I generally enjoy playing, I don’t mind if I lose and I play by choice, not because I feel forced to. In ranked before I get to legendary, I do not enjoy pvp at all unless I am winning, I am absolutely furious when I lose and I do not play by choice but because I feel like I have to so I can reach legendary. I am sure I am not one of the only people who think like this. Of course I never am unkind to people in chat and I try to be as helpful as I can no matter how I am feeling, but some people will show their emotions in chat.

As long as leagues exist, there will be a fairly large amount of toxicity.

Labyrinthine Cliffs

I really want the Labrynthine cliffs to come back. It has been so long since I last saw them. I would love an event in living world season 3 or just a random festival that features both this zone and the crown pavilion. They are both such good areas and I really want them back.

However, I do NOT want this zone to become permanent. If this happens then it will become just like the equally beautiful HoT zones are now- I really enjoy them at first but after a while I have explored them so much they jus get boring and I don’t visit them other than just to grind events/achievements/collections. It would be such a shame to have this happen the the Labrynthine cliffs so it really does need to be kept temporary in my opinion.

I have had this happen a couple of times before. For some reason I never seem to be affected by these mass-disconnects. One time this happened and it affected both teams and the match was a 3v1 in my favour. It was pretty hilarious to be honest.

Don’t know what actually causes this but it is good that there is a system in place to stop you losing pips if something like this does happen to you.

Please incentivize people to play at legend

in PvP

suffish.4150

You need to remember that this is still very early in the season to be legendary. Only the extremely good/lucky are legendary now. Wait a few weeks and queue times in legendary will be the same as they are in any other league. Most of the players that will reach legendary this season like myself are either in Ruby or diamond so you won’t get matched with those players now, but you will in maybe 3 weeks when they have reached legendary. It was the same with last season, the top players couldn’t get a match in legendary for over an hour but by he end of the season, I got to prestige 3 with no trouble at all with queue times.

Is the PVP leauge season 3 only for premades?

in PvP

Posted by: suffish.4150

suffish.4150

It is definitely possible to reach legendary in this season through solo queue alone, all you need is 50% win rate, maybe even less if you are lucky with win steaks and you will get to legendary eventually. Yes, it seems like it is going to take me hundreds upon hundreds of games to reach legendary this season, but I will make it eventually because, as I have said before, anyone who plays enough will reach legendary eventually no matter if they are solo or in a pre-made and whatever the matchmaking system is. Even if it takes you 1500 games, you will get the eventually, so don’t give up hope!

Not true

Consider that the rhythm in which you win/lose has everything to do with if you progress in pips or do not progress in pips. This is why we hear contradicting feedback about if the algorithm/leagues are working or not, such as: “I hit legend in 3-4 days of trying hard” or “I’ve been stuck in ruby for 4 weeks”. It’s because three losses and then a win will grant +2 pips and three wins will begin granting +2 pips but one win and then one lose, over and over, will grant no pip progression. Take a look at these examples as they are important to note:

  • Guy (A) wins, losses, wins, losses, wins, losses, wins, losses, wins, losses. This is 10 matches with a 50% win rate and 0 pip progression.
  • Guy (B) losses, losses, losses, wins, wins, wins, wins, wins, losses, losses. This is 10 matches with a 50% win rate but with a +4 pip progression.
  • Guy © losses, losses, losses, wins, wins, wins, losses, losses, losses, wins. This is 10 matches with only a 40% win rate but with a +1 pip progression!

This means that some players may get to legendary easily, depending on if their win/lose rhythm is favorable, where as other players may struggle for weeks to gain even a single pip gain. It also means that some players who shouldn’t be progressing at all, who have poor win rates, are getting favorable win/lose rhythms and rising in to divisions that they shouldn’t be in.

So the next time you hear players gloat about how easy they climbed to legend or hear them talk down to a lower division player, remember this post.

I understand what you are saying and I accept that if a person had nothing other than win/loss/win/loss for an entire season, of course they are not going to reach legendary. However, that situation is never going to happen, yes it could go on for 50 games or more but you WILL progress eventually. Runs of wins/losses like you described will not go on for an entire season. I was stuck in sapphire tier 5 for 60-70 games this season. It was an absolute nightmare but I played enough and eventually I got to ruby. I honestly believe that it is the same for everyone. Maybe those 60-70 games for other people will be 120-130 games, but they will always progress eventually.

I am not saying that everyone who wants to get to legendary and tries all season will get there, because not everyone has the time to grind pvp for 5 hours every single day without fail. All I was saying in my post is that anyone who plays enough will reach legendary. If they have enough time/patience to play the amount that is ‘enough’ for them is another story.

why does a tie equal a loss?

in PvP

Posted by: suffish.4150

suffish.4150

Which is a problem since personal score in no way measures performance. In fact, it often measures quite the opposite.

You are right, but these scenarios are rare enough that it doesn’t matter.

It’s rare, that’s why it does matter. When it’s a draw no team should lose pips but rewards should still be given to both teams.

If personal score mattered it would be a different story but atm it doesn’t and never has. Anet needs to admit to this and remove the pip loss rule.

While I do think that it is so rare it doesn’t matter (I have 5.5k games played and can only remember a few so it is maybe a 1/1000 chance), I agree that personal score is probably not the best way to decide who won the game, because high personal scores can be achieved by capping with 2 or more people, fighting 3 or more against 1 player which is usually not a good idea and running around taking loads of boss kills on forest while your team is outnumbered elsewhere.
However, as I said at the start of my post, it is so rare that it does not matter and it doesn’t harm me in any way because I have as much chance to win these tied games as I do to lose them. Because of this I don’t want anything to be changed because it is a nice surprise when you do happen to win this way and not too bad even if you do lose this way.

How to counterplay war/rev defenses?

in PvP

Posted by: suffish.4150

suffish.4150

When I have been playing Rev, the thing I find hardest to cope with is conditions. The meta build has not very much condi clear so after the glint heal is gone you can just condi-bomb the Rev and it is pretty much game over unless the Rev chooses to leave the fight fairly quickly and even if they do leave the fight you get the capture point anyway so that is just as good as actually killing the Rev.

Do you feel S3 is better than S2?

suffish.4150

I wouldn’t say that it is better, but it is just as good as season 2, which was very fun in my opinion. I would like to know how people can actually notice changes in matchmaking, because I have noticed no difference between unranked, season 1, season 2 and season 3 -you win some, you lose some. No matchmaking system can really change that.

However, one massive positive in class balance is that warrior is viable again! I don’t even play warrior at the moment but it just makes me so happy to see warrior being played in both ranked and the pro league after being the worst class for 2 consecutive seasons. Another thing I like about balance is that mercenary amulet has been removed which quite significantly reduces the sustain of many condi classes, especially mesmer and makes the game more balanced.

I am playing both ranger and revenant this season which does sort of break my rule of playing a different class for every season, but I really enjoy both classes.

When you should not be playing ranked

I believe that it is not allowed to do ‘naming and shaming’ on the forums so I think you need to remove the name from the screenshot you posted for it to not break the rules.

However, I agree that the most important thing to do in ranked is to keep trying and never go afk. After all, the only thing going afk does, even when 250 points down is turn a 99% chance of a loss into a 100% chance of a loss, which nobody wants. I have a sub-50% win ratio this season after playing about 130 games but what I never do is give up on a game. It is really annoying to have someone go afk on you team. A suggestion would be to have something like an afk-detector which means if somebody has not moved or used skills or not left their base for a certain amount of time, the games treats it like it does a DC and does not take pips away from their team unless they were in a group with that player.

Perma evade

suffish.4150

To be honest I like the permanent evade dagger/dagger build, I don’t play it but it just seems funny to be able to dodge endlessly. It is not overpowered at all because it takes forever to kill you and endless 1v1s is not really what the role of a thief should be. Yes they can be annoying to fight, but if you land even a single stun on them, they can die extremely quickly. It is quite easy to just hold a 1v1 against that thief build forever if you just use a lot of blocks and evades or condi clears. Even if you don’t have that you can just kite them around and make sure the point stays neutral.

I agree that to improve as players, people do need to stop blaming their team. I almost never see anyone apologising for playing badly when their team loses (although I do this when I know that I played absolutely horribly and dragged my team down) but I see people blaming both individual players and their team as a whole for losses very regularly. Yes, sometimes it is the team’s fault and I am not going to deny that but 9 times out of 10 there would have been something you could have done better to help your team win. Personally, whenever I lose I always think ‘what could I have done better’ rather than ‘where did my team go wrong’.

I think that I am just above average when it comes to skill. I win most of my 1v1s but when I face a pro league player I have no chance and sometimes just melt in seconds (seriously I have no idea how these pro league players can kill me so fast sometimes). There was one time where I did beat a pro player in a 1v1 who was running the same build as me, I was so happy when I realised what I had just done, lol. Even though I am much better than I used to be, there is still loads of room for improvement and I always try to do all I can to improve rather than blame my team for losses and I think that this is the best way for players to think when playing ranked.

As someone who has reached legendary for both the first 2 seasons, I have found climbing divisions very hard this season. I admit I haven’t played as much as a should have but I only just today reached Ruby after playing over 110 games in the last week. I think that may be partly because I have been playing Rev a lot which is a class I have just started learning, however I feel that I am fairly good at it already and win most of my rev vs. Rev 1v1s. I have started using ranger again though which is what I played last season and I haven’t had any more success. I think it may be the matchmaking stopping everyone but the very best from advancing this season.

Which Title Do You Display? and Why?

I usually display dungeoneer just because of the ridiculous amount of dungeons you have to run to get it (or an equally ridiculous amount of pvp). I see very few people with that title so I use it so people notice my character more.

Another one I display is veteran of the mists. The one for completing the meta-achievement for the first wvw tournament. This is another title I see very few people with, probably because the event itself was about 2 years ago and the title required a lot of work.

I also use the blazing light sometimes because I an very proud of my achievement to actually defeat liadri (took me about 30 tries). Can’t wait for crown pavilion to return, hopefully with new boss fights.

Why do people going far? soloqueue spvp

in PvP

Posted by: suffish.4150

suffish.4150

In my opinion, going far is always better than not going far as long as you send the right classes to the right places. If my split is 1-3-1 and my opponent’s split is 1-4-0 the they have a 4v3 in their favour at mid, but that is only going to last for about 20 seconds untill the person who got close for free arrives to make it a 4v4 and most teams should be able to survive a 3v4 for 20 seconds without any deaths. All the while, there was one person on far contesting the point which means that you have close capped, a 4v4 in mid and a 1v1 on far. This means you will have 1 cap in your favour and all fights with even numbers for both teams. Going far at the start gave you that advantage.

Some classes are better at going far than others, for example sending an ele to far is not a good idea because they are needed for support in mid and they will never win the fight whereas sending something like a mesmer to far is a great idea because they are very strong in 1v1 fights and even if they start to lose, they can just drop a portal and disengage. The class going to far should also have good mobility because if you can’t get to far before they cap it, the advantage gained by going far that I explained earlier does not exist.

Splits like 2-0-3 can also be good if you have maybe 2 or 3 thieves or something so you can just one shot the person at far from stealth and get a 2 cap right from the start, even if you do give away mid for free.

things people say in pvp

suffish.4150

I usually get raged at when I play terribly rather than when i beat people in a 1v1, but when on my Mesmer I have been told I should be ‘ashamed to play that class’ which I though was very funny. When I moa someone and still fail to kill them (That happens more than it should do for me, lol) a lot of the time they laugh at me and tell me I am a terrible player for not even winning the fight with an extremely OP skill.
Sometimes, I get someone who is really angry at me and says all sorts of insults to me for ages after a match is finished. To these people I usually act extremely apologetic and say how truly, sincerely sorry I am that I was put in their match. Usually they just stay angry though, but I find acting all apologetic very funny.

Occasionally, if someone is extremely angry at me for beating them/playing bad I just send them gold without saying anything else. One time I sent a random guy who I had never seen before 250 gold just because he was insulting me. The funniest part is that he SENT BACK 250 gold because he ‘wants me to play well, not send him gold if I play bad’!

How do I report someone for refusing to play?

I think the best way to report someone who goes afk is for botting. That is what Anet have said to do until they add a specific option for afking as far as I know. To be honest I don’t understand why people would go afk anyway- why even queue if you don’t want to play? Yes I understand that 90% of the time when you are 100 points down you are going to lose the game but if you do make that comeback it feels amazing. I really don’t understand how a player can tell if their team is bad or not- maybe the other team is very good. The only way I can tell if my team is good is if I recognise players from the pro league on my team. When I lose I blame nobody but myself for making all the mistakes I inevitably would have made and to be honest, I think that is the best way to think when playing pvp.

I think that UA is a good skill but not overpowered at all. With the amount of blocks and evades that most professions have access to, it is not difficult to stop most of the damage hitting you. Also I would hate to see the ability to follow mesmers through portals removed. Quite a few times I have ported onto a point with a revenant on it, they cast UA and then I immediately portal back to where I came from and the revenant follows me so when the attack is finished I use the portal again and cap the point without anyone contesting it. I imagine that revenant players have also had some awesome plays where they see a Mesmer trying to portal to safety and they follow them through the portal with UA and finish the mesmer off.

The truth is that the 2 best teams should be going to the finals and I honestly do not believe that TCG are in that top 2 even with the roster changes.

The DDoS almost completely ruined the season for vermillion because the only chance for TCG to not reach the finals after that was if they dropped at least one game to car crashed, which I actually expected to happen (I predicted 2-1 to TCG before the game) but we all know what happened in that matchup. [Poll] State of GW2 "E-Sports"

I voted excellent. I absolutely love the esports events, far more than anything that has been released in game and every single week the pro league is on I get as excited to see it as I did for the release of HoT. I really enjoy it that much. There is quite literally nothing that Anet could put in game that I would find nearly as enjoyable as watching the pro league, that is not an exaggeration at all. I find it unbelievable that most people don’t love the esports as much as I do because I seriously do not see what there is to dislike about it.

I see that people mentioned bad class balance, but even if that was true (which at the moment, in my opinion, it is not) then every team is in the same situation and has to deal with poorly balanced classes which will therefore not make games any less competitive and may even make them more interesting.

I hope that Anet continues with esports events because I will never get bored of them and burn out like I would on any ingame content eventually regardless of its quality. There is nothing that could happen to make me dislike the pro league because it is just so unpredictable and exciting every single week and when I get to watch an especially awesome and close game like vermillion against abjured in the season 1 finals on temple, there is no feeling the game itself could give me that compares to that.

I do not think pvp is declining at all, I always see plenty of players in HotM and leagues are what got me interested in pvp. Before leagues I hardly ever played pvp and I was not interested in the game type at all, I just did it to get AP and titles but now leagues have started, pvp is pretty much all I play in gw2. I play pvp for maybe 3-4 hours a day now and I play pve maybe for a few hours a week if that. Having the incentive to play really got me interested in the incredibly fun game mode of pvp. When I started doing leagues in the first place I just did it for the new AP, but after a while I started to really enjoy it and for the first time ever, pve or pvp, I actually care about improving as a player. I don’t believe that I am the only one who feels this way and I think that leagues encouraged a lot of people to start playing pvp even if it did cause some to quit.

As long as there are pvp leagues and a new title for getting to legendary, I will probably never stop playing pvp as my main game mode in gw2 now.

Can We Change The Meta Up?

in PvP

Posted by: suffish.4150

suffish.4150

I agree that the meta needs to be changed, especially for the pro league. I mean, you can play anything in ranked as long as you are good enough and you will do well but it does get rather boring having to see the same/similar classes in pro league games. The games themselves are really fun to watch but I would love to see warrior/thief/guardian played seriously in high level pro league game because I haven’t seen that at all (thief and guard maybe once or twice but never warrior). The pro league compositions for the second half of the season for almost all teams will probably be Mes/Rev/Ele/Druid and then anything except guardian as the 5th class. That is OK seeing as we will see pretty much every class at least once but still, the strongest classes have been the strongest since season one except maybe necro.

As for ingame ranked, even though I said anything is viable if you are good enough, the weaker classes need to be stronger because people will usually just play whatever is most powerful rather than sticking with their class and playing very well no matter how weak their class is at any given time. Warrior and thief got a decent buff and will see a bit more play in ranked but still, I feel that more needs to be done to make these classes viable in high level play.

It is very hard to say the thing that most often leads to a loss but I would say that it is definitely not team comp. just today I won a game when my team had 4 Mesmer and 1 necro (maybe not too surprising with current balance) and I also won a game in which my team had 3 guardians so I would say that teams comp doesn’t really come into it.

I would say that the thing that costs pug teams the most games is not knowing when to disengage. I very often see 1 death turn into a 3-4 man wipe in my games whereas I see that very rarely in the pro league. I have been left on my own on the map with all my teammates down a lot of times (not that I never make that mistake myself, because I do quite a bit) and that can cost you a game.

Lol that mesmer portal was pure genius

I actually make that portal play quite a bit, I watch for the chance to do it every time I am in a 1v1 with a Rev. Yeah it can sometimes be a waste of a portal but it feels so awesome when you pull it off!

I really enjoyed watching the video and I would like to see them regularly because even in unranked there can be some really awesome plays and close games, to be honest I can’t tell any difference between ranked and unranked. Hopefully people will submit a lot even if ranked needs to start again for that to happen because I always enjoy this type of video.

Well this certainly is interesting. Completely kills vermillion’s chances of getting to the finals though so makes the second half of the pro league not really worth watching when it comes to finals qualification because not even a 2:0 win against 55 would get them a finals place now. I know that what they did should not be allowed but it is such a shame that it will ruin the pro league. It is almost like everything in the eu pro league has been trying to drive me away from watching it: 2 cancelled games on week 1, the DC/DDoS on vM against TCG and now this. Really is a shame.

I love the pro league but I am so upset to hear this news, it just makes me lose motivation to get excited about it when things like this are happening. Of course cheating should not be tolerated but still, I feel if nobody ever found out about this it would have made the remainder of the pro league much more interesting, not that I approve of this kind of behaviour at all.

Well I guess all I can do is congratulate rank 55 and TCG for getting to the finals from the eu pro league!

Haha Stronlo?
Thanks for the feedback dude=) I’m getting a mic so should be able to do some voiced commentary (If I’m any good at it lol)

Ah I wouldn’t say you didn’t, obviously these videos only really show one side, I thought you played it pretty well actually most of the time. You were one of the few that actually played longbow aswell right? We fought a few times in legendary and in one game in particular I got so frustrated playing vs you :p
Nonne plays every duel perfectly and I had the advantage because I wasn’t running s&r to begin with (which I think you were?).

Yeah I played both longbow and s&r throughout the whole season. I remember playing a few games with you as well in legendary last season, I think I played fairly well most of the time, but players like you were just clearly better than me.
I think adding voice commentary would help because it would make it easier to explain what is going on and it would allow you to give more detail of strategies and what you were doing. I always like watching people’s videos of their pvp highlights that could make it even better.

I really enjoy pvp. It is pretty much all I have been playing since the start of the year due to the complete lack of any sort of new content in pve and because I like having the legendary division badge next to my name. I think I like it because it is the only game mode that it really matters how good you are in. Yes, your team can carry you to a certain extent but it does really help you improve as a player and allows you to learn new classes. I also like it because of the strategy/rotational play you need to think about.

Official Map Changes Feedback Thread (Spring Quarterly Update)

I think skyhammer is a pretty boring map now. The ability to knock people our of the map/to be knocked out yourself is what made it one of the best maps in my opinion. I don’t mean to say that it is absolutely terrible now I never want to play it, it is just that it feels more like the same old maps we already had in ranked rather than something unique.

As for spirit watch, other than being locked out of your skills while carrying the orb, there was hardly any difference. Spirit watch was one of the best maps in my opinion just because of the layout of it and the orb mechanic, and it still is. If the change to the orb mechanic makes it more competitive then that is great because I always enjoyed that map.

I can’t wait to see these 2 maps in ranked because even though skyhammer isn’t really one of my favourites any more, adding more maps can only be a positive thing because I can get bored of playing the same 4 maps and adding another 2 would be great. Also, I think that it would be an amazing idea to add these maps into the next season of the pro league. I absolutely love watching the pro league and to add these 2 maps to it would be fantastic.

WTB Ranked Qs

Personally, I really like not being able to play ranked during off season. It gives me the chance to learn a new class (I play a different class for every season) and when I inevitably play awful and lose all the time in my first few games, it means nothing and I don’t lose anything. I am currently learning condi mesmer for season 3 and I am really enjoying it. It is extremely overpowered but the play style with portals/moa is so much fun to me. I have won a couple of 2v1s as well when I moa both my enemies. If ranked was enabled, I wouldn’t have been able to do this because I would feel like I am wasting my time learning a new class in unranked so I would have had to keep playing ranked with the class I used for season 2.
As for matchmaking? There is no difference at all. You win some, you lose some, some are close, some are not. Not really anything anyone can do about that. It feels exactly the same as ranked to me just without the added pressure of having to progress, which is a great thing for me right now.

I think this season was a lot more fun than the last. I found playing Druid this season to be a lot more fun than playing bunker ele last season, I can’t wait to see what the meta will be after the patch and to see which class I want to play to legendary in season 3.

The meta was more fun, there were closer matches and I found it a lot easier to get to legendary this season because I got there in a couple weeks whereas I got to legendary 1 day before the end of season 1. I know this is just my experience, but I have had a lot more last minute plays to win/lose the game, and I have had 2 of the most incredible comebacks I have ever done just in season 2. In one of them I came from 280-480 down and got a Lord kill to win the game about 500-485, in the other my team was 380-499 down and we managed to hold a 3 cap and not die until we won 500-499. Both of those felt amazing to do.

Overall I think this season was a success and was loads of fun to play in. I can’t wait to see how season 3 is going to be.

Dc on ESL Pro League!?. . . . . . .

Just wanted to let ppl know that as long as we cant connect TCG to DDoS we are NOT getting rematch. This is decided by ESL.

Snowball

That is such a shame to hear. A game as important as this should not be decided on a 4v5. The Vermillion vs. TCG match was the one I was looking forward to more than almost any other this season and it is so disappointing that it will not be replayed. Good luck in the rest of the season, I hope you guys still get to the finals!

The rules for a disconnect need to be changed. No one likes watching a game decided by a dc, no matter what caused it. I would suggest that there should be a full reset of the game if there is a DC unless the team with the DC is more than 200 points down when it happens and if there are 2 disconnects the series should just be played on another week. I know people will say that the teams could exploit this but I think that the pro players have enough respect for the game and what they do to not leave the game when it looks like they are going to lose so they get another chance. This would be a huge improvement to the pro league in my opinion.

The guy didn’t get ddosed as he didnt dc from ts. It was a connection issue to the gw2 servers. lol no drama here

The thing is, that shouldn’t make any difference. My point was that the game was decided on a 4v5, which is true. In a game as important as TCG against vermillion, the match should not be decided by a 4v5 no matter what caused that 4v5. Because of this, there really does need to be a rematch and the pro league will be pretty much ruined if there isn’t because I don’t think anyone would say that TCG much of a chance at coming back into either of those 2 games. Of course, they could have but that is extremely unlikely.

With what happened in the vermillion vs. TCG match last night, I felt that I absolutely had to post in a thread like this because I am just unable to get over how much of a bad decision it was to just let that match carry on with the constant disconnects that vm had. If the result of that match stands then season 2 of the pro league is absolutely ruined for me, because that was the absolute most important series of the EU pro league when It comes to finals qualification and it was decided by a dc. Absolutely terrible. I really hope that the match is replayed at a later date. if they won’t let it happen with a different meta, then there is still next week to play it, have 6 games that week, I really don’t care. It will be a huge mistake for that match not to be replayed. If TCG win it as a 5v5 that is fine, but just don’t let a dc decide the most important game of the entire EU pro league.

Sorry if that sounded like me raging, but I needed to post something like that just to get rid of all the frustration I feel about that match. As for the OP, I think that having a 6th player in the match as a spectator would really help because it would limit the impact of a disconnect and allow matches to be fair which can only be a positive thing. If that is not allowed then I think that there should just be a reset of the game no matter when in the game it happens (maybe unless one team has more than a 200 point lead or something) and then if another dc happens then I think that the remainder of the series should be played on another week (keep it at 1-0 or 1-1 if those games were fine). It just stops me from enjoying the pro league if games are decided by disconnects so I hope the rules are changed.

% of competitive matches do you get to play?

in PvP

Posted by: suffish.4150

suffish.4150

In my opinion, I get maybe 80% of my matches as ones I consider competitive. However I only consider matches to not be competitive when I thought that the losing team never had any chance to make a comeback, meaning that I could lose 500-150 but at one point in that game be 480-100 down and have a 3 cap at that point and consider the match competitive because when I had that 3 cap I would have had a genuine belief that I could make a comeback, same goes for the enemy team.
As far as score goes, looking at my last 10 games only 3 of them had the losing team not even reach 200 points but for many of those 10 games I was playing mesmer which I have only started playing recently because I am learning the class so I would have been less useful than usual to my team even though I was still trying my hardest to win.

SAB temporary content - sincere question

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I wouldn’t want SAB to be permanent because if it becomes permanent, I would just stop playing it after a while and never care about it again. One example of this is the living world season 2 maps. I absolutely loved them when they first came out but now I haven’t played them for months. That is because they are permanent and I get bored of them when I farm them so much. Temporary festivals such as Halloween/wintersday/crown pavilion I will always enjoy because I never burn out. Having a big break from content makes me excited to play it when it comes back and I think this is why SAB should not be permanent however much I enjoy it right now. Temporary content is always more fun than permanent content in my opinion.

Alternate Tribulation Mode token option

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: suffish.4150

suffish.4150

In my opinion, it would be a really bad decision to allow the tribulation mode skins to be obtained elsewhere. They are rewards that show the type of content the owner of that skin has been doing, rather than most other skins that could just mean someone farmed gold and bought them. The SAB skins actually mean something, which is good.

When I first did tribulation mode I found it almost impossible even when following a guide and it took me over 2 hours to do each zone in world 1 but after some practice I can now do all 3 zones in less than half an hour, sometimes without dying at all. It really is a matter of not giving up and trying to learn what to do. I have not done world 2 in tribulation mode yet but after some practice, I am sure that will be farmable for me too. OP, you should not give up just because it seems hard at first because tribulation mode is extremely easy after you get some practice.

How often do you want balance patches?

in PvP

Posted by: suffish.4150

suffish.4150

I wouldn’t want to see balance changes mid-season because I have played one class (other than for achievements) to legendary for the past 2 seasons (bunker ele last season, druid this season) and to have to adapt to something new in the middle of a season would be really annoying for me. I use the break between seasons to get used to new stuff.

I think balance patches every 3 months is perfect as long as they change the meta and different classes become more powerful/weaker so everyone gets there chance to be a meta class. The last balance patch did change the meta from bunker to dps, but the classes that were powerful last season are still powerful this season which is something I hope changes for season 3, but overall I really like the way balance is being done.

To be fair, change mid season only forces you to adjust if you insist on playing optimal classes at all times, or if they happen to completely gut your build. I’m sure many of the people who main warrior, including myself, don’t care whether or not it’s a top tier class. Just that it be viable. A small shift in how optimal something is shouldn’t drive you away entirely.

Secondly, I am entirely in disagreement with you over the timing of balance patches. What you suggest is not attempting to keep the game reasonably balanced; it’s essentially just having the classes play musical chairs once every few months to swap between their perpetually unbalanced positions. “Shaking up the meta” is all well and good as long as that isn’t the sole goal of balance.

I don’t want warriors to be functional in pvp at the cost of pushing, say, revs out. I want both to be perfectly viable classes at all levels of play. If a balance patch puts someone else in the same position warriors have been in, even if it’s just their turn on the wheel, it’s still a poor balance patch.

I agree that total balance would be better than just rotating classes in/out of the meta, but since HoT (no idea about before HoT) there has always been good classes and bad classes no matter how much effort is put into balancing so I think it would be better to make sure that previously weak classes get their chance in the meta rather than trying and failing to balance the game and ending up with the same classes being very powerful and the same ones being very weak, which is what happened last balance patch.

I no longer experience win/loss/win/loss streaks so I am wondering if you are in the same situation as me, OP.
My loss streaks are also caused by being constantly matched against high level pro league players and my win streaks are caused by me being on the same team as these players because there is usually at least 1 pro league player in every 2 games I play. When was your favorite time in PvP?

I really enjoy pvp right now, although before HoT I just played whatever class I wanted with whatever weapons I thought would be fun and just picked random traits because I had no clue how to make and effective build and didn’t know about metabattle, lol. This makes it so I am having probably the best time I ever have in pvp right now.

The meta right now is a lot of fun and has much more dps builds than the old meta of last season, meaning that a lot more skill is needed to survive. I am having fun and I am able to make good plays and win fights for my team which I never was able to do before. Watching the pro league helps me with my decision making of where/when to rotate and when to leave a fight/+1 another fight.
I play druid so I have done lots of awesome search and rescue plays but I have to say that the best play (or at least the one I found the funniest) was on forest of Niflhel and I went to the henge point which was being guarded by a thief. I burst the thief and he blows up in about 3 seconds so I stay on point to cap it. Before I am finished, an ele moves onto the point so I hold that 1v1 for a while until the thief I killed comes back to +1 the fight from respawn. He enters the fight, making it a 2v1 against me so I burst the the thief and again he blows up in about 3 seconds even with an ele in the fight with him. The thief then complained about how rangers are op, which they are against thieves but I found it hilarious. It was one of the few moments I have had in game that made me laugh irl.

Percentage of players reaching legendary?

Especially via team queue you have still a very high chance to get there independent from your skill level just because a team communicating via voice chat and working together will beat a team of solo queuers on the same skill level.

20-30% does not seem accurate though, more like 5-10% for me.

Which is totally appropriate imo. Not a big enough player base and not enough super skilled players at the very top to make it so it would only be the top 1-2%. Would probably have to institute league loss to make it even more exclusve which a majority of players would cry about.

I think introducing league loss would be a mistake even though it would help divisions be more representative of skill level. This is because many players, myself included, would not play a single ranked game after we reached legendary for the rest of the season just because it is so much work to get there and to have it taken away and not be able to get it back would be terrible. Maybe league loss should be introduced, just not for legendary.

As for the percentage of player reaching legendary, I would say maybe 5% of players I see in HotM are legendary. I expect that this will increase a lot in the next couple of weeks though because most people do not have as much time to grind games as the 5% who are already there so they will reach legendary later on in the season.

I know I say on the forums all the time how much I love the esports that gw2 has at the moment, but it is because it is something I believe so strongly. Without the pro league my motivation to pvp or even to play the game at all would decrease massively. It is by far the most exciting, entertaining, unpredictable thing that gw2 has at the moment because the game itself gets very boring for people like me who have played every bit of content many times. The pro league/esports events never become predictable, they never become boring and nothing I have done in game can compare to watching some of the most exciting pro league games when considering the sheer amount of hype and excitement I feel. The $200,000 per season is probably very little to a company like Anet (but I don’t know for sure) and even if it is quite a lot, it is much better spent on something that will always encourage me to play the game and will never disappoint me rather than spending it on content that I have found to be fairly boring since the end of living world.

I have seen it soloed too, multiple times. However this only happens when nobody at all goes to defend the lord for the entire time the player is soloing it (I have arrived to defend the lord when it was at 10% health with someone solo-ing it and easily prevented the kill). What I mean by saying that they rarely succeed is that if the team puts any kind of effort into actually defending their lord, the enemy lord rush will fail 9 times out of 10. This is why I think it would be a mistake to buff the lord when considering average players like myself.
