By far my favourite character is Rytlock, and I like him 5x more just because of his ‘you cant trust sylvari, they belong to the dragon now’ line. That one line made me see watching the HoT trailer for the first time as the most amazing moment in the game so far. I hope to see a lot of him in the story of heart of thorns and I probably will, it would be awesome to see him as maybe the only survivor in Destiny’s Edge and him joining our group, though I would prefer to see him leading us rather that the other way round.
Every other character, to be honest, I couldn’t care less about. They can be killed off or do whatever and I simply wouldn’t care. That is not to say I dislike the story, because I absolutely love it, it’s just that Rytlock is the only actual character that I really care about, everyone else can be changed for someone else and I wouldn’t mind. If they did that to Rytlock I would be massively disappointed.
I have probably spent about 50g on the forge. 99% of that was trying with rares to get my precursor before I finally saw sense and bought it. Only thing I use the forge for now other than crafting some of the expensive skins is buying 4 basic rarity pieces of armour, whatever is cheapest at that time, and throwing those into the forge for the daily. I try not to use it because I know I will become addicted if I do.
I would also really like the pavilion to open so I can finish my gauntlet achievements and hopefully more farming achieves and rewards will be added with it to keep me and others interested for longer.
I suspect it will return before HoT because suriel the blazing light is running around LA ‘training for the next gauntlet’. I may be reading to much into that, but maybe suriel will become the new hardest boss and a tier 4 will be introduced with a ‘the concealing dark’ title for killing suriel. Probably not but that would be awesome.
I play as a very big charr and I have no problems at all with camera issues in jumping puzzles. Charr are one of the biggest races though and if you are only just getting used to it after playing as a human or something else it may seem more difficult to start with but you will get used to it. Them running on four legs may be an issue for someone not used to charr, but again, after a while it will seem as easy or even more so than playing any other race.
Personally I am happy with how flameseekers looks at the moment, I think it was supposed to be one of the more subtle legendaries with less effects than something like twilight or the dreamer and I think it should stay that way- it is good to have the option to still have a legendary if you do not like such in-your-face effects and auras.
I have run the same sword/shield build ever since I bought the game. I run sw/sh + longbow and have rampagers armour and carrion weapons and trinkets. I think that it is okay for condition damage and has a bit of direct damage, but I know nothing about how to make an effective build so this is maybe awful. I find it quite fun to play though.
As much as I am sure the majority of people will prefer you idea to fighting aboard an airship with cannons, I do hope for a similar style fight to zhaitan, albeit with more difficulty and mechanics. To me it just doesn’t make sense for one player (or a small group) to be able to kill something 10x the size of tequatl (hopefully even bigger than that) with ordinary weapons. An airship fight will make me a lot happier than a normal fight, even more so if Anet can find a way to make it very challenging and interesting at the same time.
Personally, I am very happy I prepurchased HoT even though I will not be doing any of the beta weekends so I don’t get any story spoilers. The patch made no difference to me with the changes to traits, but to be completely honest the only thing I want HoT for is the story: specilisations, revenant, guild halls, stronghold and the new wvw map are all completely insignificant to me and I would not mind if none of them were added. However, I can see how the patch would be annoying for someone who cares about their build/traits because the new system does give you much less choice of traits because you can’t go only part way into the trait line and if I am not mistaken there are less traits overall (9 major ones per line). This could be a serious problem for someone who likes trying new builds. I am still extremely excited for HoT though and can’t wait for a release date to be announced.
I still use LA like I always have, although I agree that it is MUCH less convenient than it was at postern ward when it was still destroyed. However, I think that the new LA is beautiful so that is enough to keep me going to the same hub that I always have. It’s only a couple of steps difference between that and the other cities anyway.
Although I do not see exactly why people do this instead of showing off their achievements in the game, I see no reason at all to prevent people using the titles they want.
Some people, like me, simply don’t care about that stuff. Different strokes for different folks, I presume. I’ve never understood people who need to show off their achievements. I mean, just displaying a title or wearing flashy armour, sure, but feeling the need to parade it around infront of the main bank of the game so that people praise you for it?
Maybe I didn’t sound very nice when I wrote that. Sorry about that. What my point was was that what I, personally, think titles are for is to show off what you have accomplished in game to other people, the same way I like to show legendaries, expensive skins or minis such as the liadri. They are all part of the look you may have worked extremely hard for and would like other people to see. However, I still believe that the easy titles should be kept because like the cheap skins, some people use like a lot.
In my opinion, it is not a good idea to remove any titles. Even as someone who really cares about the titles I wear and see on other people I am still against this because I know that some people use certain titles because they ‘sound good’ rather than because they are difficult to get. The silverwastes legendary mob killer titles are a good example. Although I do not see exactly why people do this instead of showing off their achievements in the game, I see no reason at all to prevent people using the titles they want.
I don’t mind it being there and although it isn’t my thing, it is great to have something that different types of players can enjoy. Some people have made huge amounts of gold but I would rather not risk it. Tried the 100g option once to get the 1AP and got a return of 25g and 50 ecto. I will not be going back in fear of losing more.
Also, whya re you playing if your not having fun???
For me, it is more of a habit/unpleasant need to grind achievements or gold, not necessarily because I like playing a lot of the time. Although I do think a lot of the points you made are valid, if you play a lot like me you have just done them all and there is quite literally nothing new. While I do have a certain amount of fun repeating content, I would absolutely love the pavilion to return and I would be happy to do that a lot (especially if they added some extremely grindy achievements with it to keep me occupied). I would happily have HoT delayed for a while however much I am looking forward to it to get the pavilion back.
I disagree that achievements are hard to understand. However this is probably because I read the wiki, forums, patch notes of what is being added before I even log in or start to think about achievements. For example, I see the beekeeper achievement added in silverwastes category, I think ‘What has been added in point of no return?’, I realise it is vinewrath so I conclude it must have something to do with this. It’s not that hard from there.
Looking at it from the perspective of someone who does not read forums/wiki at all and does not play every day, I see how it could be a bit confusing because there is achievements from so many different categories and no real way to tell which is which. You should be able to understand them after a while though. When silverwastes was first added I had no clue what all the achievements were asking for but after playing it for a while, I learnt them and got pretty much them all very soon after I started to actively try to get them.
Although I also see trahearne as one of the more likely characters to die, I don’t think that he will be turned into a mordremoth minion purely because of the fact people were mentioning a while back that willpower is a major thing that would protect sylvari from corruption. I don’t know how accurate this would be but trahearne would, in my opinion, not be one of those to ‘give in’ to mordremoth. I see it as more likely he died in the crash/barely survived and died soon after or was fine and dies in battle. I really can’t see him being corrupted though.
I have to say, I completely agree with the OP about exclusivity. I made my legendary weapons not because I liked the skins so much (well, to a degree I did but that was not the major factor) but because only players who have played a lot/are extremely lucky will have them. I got them to stand out to others, not for myself. I will eventually get round to buying the spirit smith backpiece not because it is nicer than my fractal capacitor, but because I have never seen anyone else with one. Those are thoughts of -I am sure- many players as well as me and I know some of you will not understand this logic, but it really is what gives me the motivation to grind for something- I do it because after I am done, I will have something hardly anyone else has. That is the rewarding feeling I want. There are few examples of true exclusivity in this game at the moment and I would like to see more one time only skins that never return, if I manage to get them or not.
I have to agree, the new LA is simply incredible. I spent an hour and a half walking round, exploring every bit of it and enjoyed it all. This is the first time I have really explored a zone completely in one go and I have to say I did not regret it. The attention to detail and the complete change in the mood of the place is amazing. Well worth the year and a half wait since it was destroyed.
My one complaint would be that the merchants are quite spread out and less convenient than when it was in its destroyed state though. Very minor though and does not change my opinion on the city at all.
I too had to buy skills I already had. Not a brilliant way to do it but not a disaster, skill points were easy to get anyway. Not a huge loss but I would have preferred it if I didn’t have to buy my skills again.
I agree, from what I have found, although I have bought very little from the vendor (terrified of becoming addicted to it, lol) that you get back approximately what you put in, sometimes more, sometimes less. I think it is a great idea for a vendor and was completely unexpected.
My favourite zone is frostgorge sound because of the amazing underwater scenery. Underwater scenery is far better than scenery on land in my opinion and it is a shame there has been no more lakes or anything added in lw season 2.
Second favourite is plains of ashford. It is the first zone I saw in game because I made a charr character and I like both the natural scenery and charr architecture.
Although it doesn’t really count as a proper zone, labyrinthine cliffs is by far the most epic map that has been added in gw2. The views you get by searching for sky crystals or the ones you get just be standing there are incredible. I would love to see that zone return despite the zephyrites being gone. I liked the look of the crown pavilion too.
The most expensive thing I ever got was the hunter (rifle pre) from a random level 10 ice wurm in wayfarer foothills. Sold it for 450g. I should have held onto it until prices went up. It more than quadrupled my wealth at that time though because I had recently bought the game.
Also, not so much in gold value but another thing that dropped for me that was rare was a tequatl’s hoard. I didn’t think it was rare at all until a while after I got it when I saw people complaining in map chat about how rare it was! I got a spear with it (lol) because I already had nice skins for land-based weapons.
While I am usually fully with Anet on the decisions they make about the rules of the game, the lfg tool is one I really do not understand. I was entirely unaware that selling home instances is against the rules and thought it was a clever way to make money on the instance owner’s part and I bought them almost every day until recently when I have started to go farm nodes for myself. That said, I still do occasionally buy home instances and would like something clarifying: is it ok to BUY home instances but not sell them? If it is not, of course I will stop completely but it is a convenience that I do like from time to time.
Additionally, I also believe that there is no difference between selling dungeons and selling home instances and they should both be ok (if someone is willing to pay to get your stuff why stop them?). Selling specific items on the lfg however I do see why that is against the rules and although I have no problem with seeing it (I just ignore those groups), it is in my opinion misusing the tool and I support Anet’s decision on bypassing TP fees in that way.
it is somewhat a grey area, arenanet do not like it but can not really prevent it. just do not use the LFG tool to advertise it as that is illegal.
Thanks for the response, seeing as Anet do not like people doing it I am going to stop because even if you can’t be banned for it, I like to not exploit/break rules out of principle more than anything else and just to be an honest player.
I am pretty sure there is a challenge mote or something next to each of the bosses in that instance to spawn them for another try at the achievements.

I wanted because of the look, because i wanted my character to use something expensive and hard to get and because i wanted people to look and comment and say: “hey, nice GS!” “wow, that is an amazing GS, can i see it?
”
Are you sure about that? I’ve never seen anyone mention anything about anyone’s legendary.
I have bolt and the Flameseeker prophecies and I do get the occasional ‘nice legendaries’ comment. However I did not make my leges for this, I did make them because I like the skins although it is nice to think that others appreciate all the hard work you put in.
Personally, I think foefire’s essnce is a far nicer skin than sunrise and because it is much rarer to see (I just waypoint into LA and see at the very least 3 people in the player hub I use with sunrise and usually at least one with twilight). The nice exotic skins are the ones that I DO notice and comment on, not the legendaries. Those are not exclusive enough for me to comment on, even if I do like the skins.
Personally, I really enjoy jumping puzzles and would like to see several more in HoT, hopefully more difficult than the ones we have in game now. I think the vast majority of the jps are very easy, but that is probably because I have just had a lot of practise with them, not because I am particularly skilled. I did every single jumping puzzle in game as a max size charr and because that is what I am used to, I probably couldn’t do them as a human. There is not much of an advantage to using certain races. However I do agree that they should not be mandatory to progress in the game (I do not consider dry top or any similarly designed map a jumping puzzle by any means though) but are a nice activity when you are looking for something different to do.
Dungeon kicking will be a common thing if you join groups that you don’t meet the requirements for. To avoid this you should only join casual/all welcome runs if that’s what you enjoy.
As for heart event groups kicking you i have no idea, however if you are joining ‘SW 90%’ or ‘Ogranised teq’ kind of groups or even just a general FGS/Orr farm map to use as a taxi, the kicking is understandable so that can taxi as many as possible into their map so it can be successful. In addition, this shouldn’t matter because you have no need for one of those groups after the initial taxi.
100k I would probably give away to random people who wanted precursors/valuable skins. I would buy all the legendaries, all the spirit weapons to get my spirit smith backpiece and some nice exotic skins like infinite light and mjolniir. I would also buy enough mats to fill my collections tab on every single material. The rest I would just save and probably never spend.
I really like the ghost wolf mini from trick or treat bags (forgotten its name) and I also like the mini plush griffon from the wintersday festival.
I too think bandit crests have too few uses. The only thing I spend them on now is skeleton keys and sometimes the bandit loot bags. Before you get all the carapace boxes you have something to work towards with them but after that they really start piling up in your inventory. I don’t farm SW too often and I still have 3k crests that I don’t know what to do with.
A suggestion would be that you could trade them for some kind of booster that helps with silverwastes farming (maybe one that gives the ‘hero of the wastes’ buff for an hour even if you change zones?). I am sure many people will use them then because it will make farming there even more rewarding. There is of course the option that the heavy bag of materials that drops t6 could be added but I think the booster would be a more unique thing to work towards.
As someone who runs at least 3 dungeons daily, I really don’t understand why people believe there are a lot of unkind people in dungeons, or even people who don’t read the lfg. Almost all of the time the people in my dungeon run including myself are as helpful as possible to any new players who do join. I usually join ‘exp 80’ runs just to make sure the dungeon is finished smoothly, but if a new player does join and asks if it is ok to stay, I will never kick them as long as they are willing to help, which 99% of the time they are.
Sure, there are some people who get frustrated with me about not running a zerker build (‘why are you running a sword/shield warr? You really should run a meta build’) but I just explain to them that it is the build I always run and I am used to and again, 99% of the time that is fine. There really isn’t any of the toxicity that people mention in lfg-made dungeon groups.
-“You can’t trust sylvari, they belong to the dragon now”
- Most of the ones from camp chef gristlemane in camp resolve I find funny, “Shut your mouth, or I’ll jam a ladel in it!” Is the best.
-“That’s the second ugliest thing I’ve ever seen” from CoE explorable
people with more than 2k gold
My god, how? Literally how do you gain so much gold?
I farmed dungeons for hours every day for a long time and that gets me a LOT of gold with not too much effort. Also I probably have more gold than most because I never spend anything that costs me more than I can make back that same day. I can’t stand seeing my gold hoard decreasing in size, hahaha.
Things that I am proud of on my account:
- Two legendaries (Bolt and Flameseeker prophecies) which I crafted and farmed for myself.
- Almost 20,000 AP in just over 2 years
- My Dungeoneer and blazing light titles
- My luminescent armour
- Over 3,000 gold on my account that I will never be able to bring myself to spend much of
I think farming is actually a very good thing and should be encouraged by Anet. It does not harm the game in any way and it allows people like myself to get materials without spending any of my gold (I have a serious gold hoarding problem that I can’t seem to get out of). I farm champs, dungeons, vinewrath, chest farm, cursed shore and other places too because sometimes it is the only thing for me to do and it is better than just standing in LA not knowing what to do, plus you get rewards for your time. While I understand why people are against some farms (frostgorge coil failfarm mainly), the ones that are not exploits should be left alone and people should be left to do what they want in game.
You can skip the levelling process with tomes of knowledge. You get those from daily rewards/BL chests only though (unless there is another source of them that I don’t know about). However there is no way to change a character’s profession.
As someone who has never placed one of my own buy orders in over 2 years playing this game, I can fully understand why someone would just buy/sell directly. If I was going to buy/sell something very valuable, a legendary even, I would not place my own buy/sell order. I would just sell to highest bidder/buy from lowest seller because you get the item right then. I am extremely impatient with that because I do not want to wait to get what I want, I bought it so I want it right then. If there are a significant number of people who share my views, it is likely they are the ones who are buying from you at high prices.
That, in my opinion, would not really be necessary. Repair is simple enough as it is and if they were going to do that I think it would be better for them to just remove the armor damage mechanic rather than make even more changes to armor repairs.
Well, if you guys make a loud enough freak out before any possibility I’m sure if any plans of her demise were designed, they can always be thwarted if given enough volume. That’s how soap operas work, generally when someone gets written off the show or killed its not because they want the story to go that route but more of the fact that it is strictly production business factors that determine the fate of the characters.
If people rally in protection of a beloved character, that character will get protected.
Marjory is a prime example.
Is there actually any proof that Marjory was originally planned to die, because I haven’t seen it proven for certain anywhere and I have only seen other players saying it.
As for the rest of your post, I would say that makes sense because I do believe I would just stop enjoying the storyline of the game if certain characters died (Rytlock) and I know that others would feel the same way which is not what Anet would want their players to feel.
Mid tier crafting mats are very valuable, much more so than higher tier mats. Low level gear can be salvaged for those same mats (linen being the most valuable) and the lower level bags will drop them. They probably want them to craft ascended gear or to quickly level a char through crafting.
I have never played another mmo, but I think the gw2 community is very nice. If I ask a question on map chat, everyone will try to be as helpful as possible and that goes for everyone else too that I notice. There are some unfriendly or unhelpful people in most areas of the game, but they are the tiny minority.
I am still pretty hyped about HoT, if ever I start to get bored in game I just go to silverwastes and view the heart of thorns trailer that you can watch if you talk to that npc. That instantly makes me enjoy the game again whatever it is I am going to be doing, it just makes me think that this massive content drought will be more than worth it, which I believe it will be
Go to bloodtide half an hour before the event starts and chances are you will get lucky with an organised map coming to you, I go around the map harvesting nodes to pass the time before that happens. There are also taxis people advertise on lfg but the good ones are often already full before you can get in.
Best events to farm are probably world bosses. They require absolutely no individual effort (other than in teq and triple trouble which do require you to be at least slightly more aware but are still not too difficult) and give you a lot of valuable loot like rares and sometimes exotics to salvage got ecto/sell.
Orr/fgs champ farming is ok too but for some reason I can’t do that for very long at all without getting extremely bored, whereas I can farm world bosses for a long time.
I usually just use the compact feature so all the stuff I need is at the top of my inventory (usually only like 15 basic salvage kits and 3 master ones and sometimes some geodes or bandit crests). I know some people like to have different sets of gear in their inventory but if you only ever use one build like me there is no need so the compact feature is perfect.
My absolute favourite moment in game was watching the heart of thorns trailer that plays after you finish season 2 of loving world. It is an incredible cinematic and I still watch it at least once a fortnight.
Second favourite is probably getting my first legendary, bolt. It took me so much work and it is in my opinion the best skin in game.
Third would be the cutscene at the end of season 1 of the living world. Again it was amazing and I had been desparate for there to be another elder dragon right up until mordremoth was shown in that scene.
It would be good if karka attacked the new LA, because I did not have the game during the first attack and I would love to see it, maybe using a similar system to the scarlet invasion (infested with lots of little ones and every so often a big event occurs)? As long as no physical damage is caused AGAIN, I would have no problem. Anyway, it’s something to do before HoT launches whatever it is!
I asked in the silverwastes multiple times and everyone said they no longer dropped. I know this is not official word but it is better than nothing. Because of this I would not farm for them too much unless it is confirmed that they do infact still drop.
I do not think that they will kill Eir, and if they do I do not think Braham wil take her longbow, purely because Marjory took her sister’s greatsword and for the exact same thing to happen again would just not make sense to me. Personally I do not think any of the main characters will die in heart of thorns, but I would not have a problem with it if they can make it work with the storyline (except if Rytlock died, I would really not like that because he is awesome, but that is another story entirely).
Although I would absolutely love to see moa racing return (also with the option to bet more gold on them for higher reward), haven’t those moa chicks been there for over a year since LA was destroyed? I may be wrong but I seem to remember seeing them there for a long time now.
