Guard is an amazing skill for this, ive been using it for all kinds of whack stuff to screw with people in pvp and wvw, it’s awesome good fun!

As said above – Ascalon catacombs is your best bet- it’s fast and easy and the runes the set comes with aren’t bad until you can afford something better. I actually bought two sets, just so i could use the rune set for an aegis build I was toying with a while back.

Even now I have to wade through a sea of bad players at 30+, I guess they got carried all the way up there, there’s no way some of the awful people I see got there through their own effort. When pugging 30+, usually have to restart the dungeon 2 or 3 times to get rid of the Magic finders -_-.. I can only imagine this problem will become even more common place but oh well.

I always wonder about this. How would you even know they have magic find? What gives them away? I mean, I doubt they get a sign above their head that say “using magic find now”.

A few things give hints:

1.) crafted set of gear
2.) magic find food
3.) Sigil of luck next to their name.
4.) Dies to trash mobs like no tomorrow.
5.) Auto attacks alot.

This obviously doesn’t always mean they are wearing magic find, but it sure increases the chances they are.

When I see this I will ask for a gear ping and when they refuse to provide it, it’s time to kick.

I run into this problem almost everyday.. 5 dungeons are easily completed in 2 hours and of course I’m not watching the kitten clock or keeping track and then BAM DR you scumbag exploiter you!

Also gotta take into account the gear, traits and skills of each individual.

I found that doing these story modes with mixed levels ( not all 80’s) is of course more difficult, but if everyone wears the best possible gear available for their level, it should still go relatively smoothly.

Oh, might also add, as it seems you are new to dungeons (haven’t done explore mode yet), that the base stats of gear are also important. Glass cannon is not recommended. Dungeon frequenters will generally run a gear set with toughness and/or vitality on it to bump up their survivability. Magic find is also not an ideal set to be running.

My guess is that this is temporary to prevent the gate from being bugged shut on some servers for days at a time, not allowing anyone access at all, even when the event has been successfully completed.

Corrupted Artifact. It’s an icy dragon’s head, I use it on my Charr Guardian because it’s quite large and scary looking :P

The only players I kick are the ones that think taking magic find into a dungeon is an amazing idea.

I run with 1- 2 eles usually for my dailies and never have an issue. They are extremely versatile and when played correctly, adapt to the situation on the fly and provide great support/dps.

it’s fine that they are rare, but I’d at least like a choice of what I’m getting! I cant use the dagger I got on my guardian after 250 fractals

Stow your pet before the attack. see if that works and bring him out again after he launches his attack.

This, also if you have some competent players in your group, for example, a Mesmer who uses feedback, just call your pet back, and the Mesmer’s feedback bubble will block the projectile so he doesn’t get pulled in. Same applies for Guardian with shield of the avenger, just make sure the shield is between your pet and the boss at the time of the pull, then send it back in. there are of course a bunch of other skills, including Stability that will prevent a pull supplied by classes around you.

Note: don’t send the pet back in straight away, wait for the boss to do his whirl after the pull, and then you’re good to go.

3.) non- ugly version on the hyena. I loved the hyena in GW1, it was adorable. They currently look like they have mange in GW2, with half their fur falling off.
4.) Crocodile (possibly to be added Elona campaign)
5.) Crane. An agile and fast moving bird with stick-like legs is awsome. forget those annoying, blulky moas.
6.) Raptors, Griffons- ogres get them, I want one too! The pet whistle makes me sad I cant have one all the time
7.) Colocal- (mentioned by others) love this guy, i have the mini and although people say he is ugly, i think he is adorable due to the way he sits like a puppy, and he has some kitten looking wing things on his back.

To make it do any real damage, you have a Zerker set on… that’s horrible. If there’s any use for a torch it should be for support purposes, eg. rem condis.

I would not recommend using a torch, there are better weapon sets at your disposal at this point in time.

You should really get them out of dungeons, they’re doing a lot of harm to the game.

Um, no.

You can avoid every non-combat event in the game with a spy kit. Do you think it is skillful and adds to the game by being allowed to get past content that your group might not be capable of doing?

Example 1: Snowblind fractal. The Svanir waves at the first big bonfire are actually quite dangerous when you get to high difficulties, but it doesn’t matter, because you can just spy kit and do it without killing anything.

Example 2: Dredge. The button cage event is also pretty difficult when you get higher up, but same thing, spy kit and don’t kill a thing.

Example 3: Stealth ressing. You are almost never threatened by a party wipe when you can just stealth res anyone that dies.

And who knows what else it will trivialize in the future.

Example 1; You can just corpse run, light the bonfire, die, repeat and accomplish the same thing can’t you?

Example 2; You can just die on the pressure plates and they will stay activated, can you not?

Example 3; The only thing this does is save time.

Spy Kits are great when you wish to save time. They do not let you do incredible amazing things that no one without spy kits would be able to do.

This ^. People complain about every kitten thing. Anything that makes impossible kitten a little easier they cry, anything that’s impossible they cry, you can never make them happy. This isn’t game breaking, it’s called planning ahead to make things less complicated, the same as when you take food, sharpening stones and skale venom.

Today I decided to make a FotM 30 group. I asked specifically for geared players with no magic find.

What do I get?
3 times in a row, they tell me they are wearing a real gear set, then go in and put thier MF set on thinking I’m stupid ( I see your rare crafted set, I see your Luck sigil, I see your magic find food).. they then proceed to auto attack at range, or go in and die repeatedly. 3 separate people.. 3 separate instances, I kicked them everytime.. and it’s damn well wasting my time.

Even when I go to the trouble to make my own group, and specify that I do not want MF players, they still have the audacity to join and try to leech off my team and not say anything. The other night a necro even went to the trouble of linking his full arah set when he was clearly wearing the crafted magic find set and sigil and dragging the team down.

It’s not fair on me, it’s not fair on my group and it’s damn well not fair on anyone who goes to the trouble and time to do the right thing by their party and do their best.

If people wanna run magic find, they should go make their own groups instead of hijacking a geared team and trying to leech off them.

I dont care of you wanna take magic find in a dungeon, just don’t do it in my party.
I hope that Anet does something to fix this issue, whatever the solution.

Utilize your quickness with barrage + sharpening stone (puts 5 stacks on 5 targets). Also utilize piercing arrows (line up your shots to hit multiple targets).

Best combo: Get fury > Barrage + Quickening Zypher > Rapid Fire (Line up your shot) > Weapon Swap to shortbow (adds more fury) + Pet Swap for quickness > Spam #1 > Repeat.

Your key to staying alive is “Protect Me”, Dodge Rolls, and Distance.

Oh excellent, I got impatient and started setting up myself, I ended up with the same build as this and it’s really nice DPS, only difference was the pets, I was using wolf for fear and hyena for double KD. Thanks

Been using the monk runes on one of my alt sets, I prefer them also, that extra aegis is something I wouldn’t pass up.

i’m a tanky guardian. that’s my thing. that’s how i choose to play and i don’t play long enough to have a dedicated glass cannon dps set.

wasn’t this game about throwing off the chains of min-maxing? about getting rid of holy trinity to prevent those “need heal last spot” shouts?

well, no one’s shouting for healer, however, you can’t swing a cat in path 4 without everyone shouting “only accepting true DDs. no support please”.

how is this different? are we getting rid of healers and tanks just so that kids could play dodge style glass-cannons only?

I dont feel punished for my choice tbh, my guardian isn’t DPS spec, I run toughness vitality setup and had no issue with this boss. The way around low dps in a team, for this fight, is being fast with the sparks. It’s not impossible. In fact there were 2 guardians in my team for that run, the other guardian also ran tank spec. That’s just plain silly to say because you’re tank setup means you cant do this boss at all.

Question’s in the title, I’m looking for a ranger build that gives the highest possible DPS in a dungeon/PvE area. Thanks.

Why not just add a unique skin that requires 1k tokens for each dungeon? takes extra work for it but ur guaranteed to get it after putting in the effort. As an example, for the ascalon cata weps, they are like 390? I think? why not offer a more uber-crazy awesome skin version of it with more particle effects etc for 1k

There’s a reason there is a kick function. let’s not forget. not everyone is innocent. Not everyone joins a party and does the right thing by everyone. The last thing we want is a GW1 scenario where your party is stuck with a complete idiot for a whole run or has to quit, forfeit all their progress and leave to replace someone. It happens. Alot. Just the other day I was doing fractals 30 and a guy joined in a full magic find set and auto attacked for the whole run.. about halfway through, after asking many times to please change his set.. we kicked him. we’d rather this awful player didn’t get the reward that our party had been working towards, that he clearly hadn’t contributed to.

Actually, “bag of coins” would probably sound better and be more descriptive.

The real question, though, is why do they exist at all. Why don’t you simply get the coins straight from the blue boss satchel, or indeed directly from the boss, when you loot. As they exist, the “bags of gold” are just a useless intermediate step requiring two extra mouse clicks and one extra inventory slot.

I feel like it’s the illusion of a reward. You feel like you’re getting more than what you actually are because it comes in a pretty little satchel which you then open.

OP’s team is guild team, not a pug. Probably with a voice comm. And I’ve already said that I can do it with 4 firsttimers. And I’ve seen pugs unable to kill grubs. So I wouldn’t say that standard approach is most likely better.

. Whether he’s taking pugs or guild at this point.. since hes wiped 8 times doesnt matter, they are clearly having a bad time of it. Of course the ranged way isnt ‘better’, it takes longer, but there’s less of a chance for something to go wrong. I’m sure you did manage to do it with 4 new people, hell I know even I did it that way when I was new.. but for the sake of not having to to it again because people fail to watch, when with a pug, i’ll take the easier option. Of course if he’s failing to kill grubs (which it doesnt look like he is, based on his post) then try a different method, such as yours. this isn’t even the issue, this isn’t even what is being discussed. He has problems with Aoes. I was giving him tips on dodging those, and I think we can both agree it’s a good idea during all phases to watch his animations. That is all.

I stand by my damn post (crazy huh?) watch the boss’s attacks during the fight, regardless of which method you do grubs. Domes, spitting, shadow stepping, etc etc..

one thing not alot of people notice is when Lupus begins his AoE in phase 2 he fires a shadow bolt directly aimed at you (everyone) & aoe’s the room, the one aimed at you is the one hitting you outside of the circles.

it’s easy to tell on a Guardian because Aegis will block it and lupus wont even fire one at you.

so in short, make sure your ready to evade the moment he begins his aoe.

Agreed, for this part, I pop retreat as soon as he hits that so people have that aegies and some run speed.

Yesterday I took 4 firsttimers. I explained to them what to do. We didn’t have to kill grubs except the one that spawns during transition to phase 2.

This standard practice is less efficient because only 3 people attack lupi. Why not get those 2 people to attack lupi in melee? It’s a bit more dangerous because his kicks but it’s more fun this way (and faster).

I usually take guildies and do this run in around 20-30 mins, as mentioned above. The main thing here is, when taking pugs unfortunately gear isnt the whole picture (although it sure is a chunk of it). When i recruit I check a few things before starting. Call me an elitist scumbag (many do, it’s quite flattering) but it’s my group and I just dont have the time for idiots.

-Achievement points.
-Gear.
-Experience.

This helps filter out alot of bad players, although (obviously) not all of them.

You’ve read countless guides, so you know the fight.

For lupicus the rules for me are simple.

Stay calm.
Always have your camera pointed at him.
Bring stability skills, run speed,blinks and teleports, res skills for the downed if you have.
Assign people at the start for grubs.
Watch. Watch his movements. His hands in particular, and his face.

You say your biggest issue is the Aoe.

My advice: 1.- dont be trigger happy with your dodge skill. You have time between when the red circle appears, and when the projectile hits that red circle.You can walk out of alot of it, and save ur dodge for the ones you cant.
2.- If for whatever reason, you’ve used up your endurance and you know you’re about to get hit, try jumping as you run out of that circle, it can help.
3.- You say you get hit while not in the circles. What needs to be remembered is that, although they are circles, they are landing areas for projectiles, and if you’re right in front of that circle, that projectile is gonna pass through you on the way.
4.- Remember of course, that the more empowerment lupicus has, the more those nasty things are going to hit for.

This fight is not a DPS race. I do not know what gear sets your party was running but I strongly advise against glass cannons (berserker gear) and magic find sets. Run some toughness /vitality. This fight is all about staying up and alive through each phase.

Remember to watch your team mates as you go, be they guildies or pugs, you need to see who’s pulling you down in this fight and tell them what needs to change. One downed person can quickly turn into the whole team.

When i first did this fight it took my team 4 attempts and it was very frustrating. It was sloppy and horrible and we ran around like headless chickens. needless to say, as time went by, this fight became easier and easier.

Game got stale for me. Got my legendary, got to fractals 30.. etc..

What I did?

Made my own fun.

Guildies, vent, dungeons, sPvP, messing around in WvW, Exploration achievement points, jump puzzles, cultural armors, another legendary, skin hunting for my other weapon sets, 500 ecto shiny backpeice, alt classes, alt builds etc etc.. There’s still plenty to do, it’s just whether or not it’s going to tickle your fancy.

The way I see it is, now that I have all of the things I feel i need, the focus is now on things I want, I set my own goals and I now look at the game as a pick up and put down thing.. something I can stop playing at any time, and then pick it up again later for an event or if I want to go run a dungeon or two etc.

No one is forcing you to play, enjoy what parts you enjoy, hate the parts you don’t, stop playing if you’re bored, whatever you want to do.

My main is a Guardian, I then made a ranger for fun. Once hitting 80, i went right back to Guardian

You just do so much for for your team in PvE dungeons. I actually felt selfish if I ever wanted to take my ranger into the party over my guardian. Ranger is fun, dont get me wrong, but Guardian is a great class to have also, especially if you’re in a dungeon with a poor team.. You can just hop off your ranger and grab the guardian to provide them support and pull through. I still play my ranger from time to time, but when your group is in need, it’s great to have a heavy class like warrior or guardian to get things done more smoothly.

For PvP I recommend Mesmer because it’s awesome good fun with clones, phantasms and confusion and is a unique playstyle that can be very strong.

I’ll be happy with whatever’s thrown our way. Game’s awesome, events are always exciting, items on top is cherry on the cake.

Excited but also know not to get my hope up like last time..or the time before that…
