Would be nice but I am pretty sure ANet designed this class to be a in-combat only stealth class…
I rarely get killed in zerg fights because I don’t over extend. I am very patient and I wait for an enemy to make a mistake or find a weak one and drop him quickly and refuge or cnd for the stomp and get out.
I rarely fight with the zerg tho. I roam wvw solo for the most part. When fighting some noob in between his keep and his border keep you need to drop him fast or he will just run away.
I’m not a fan of P/D build. I don’t like the length it takes to kill someone.
When I WvW I like to kill quickly and keep moving. The long you stay fighting the more people will add on you. No matter what build you are, you can’t kill anything while there is a zerg there.
Only skills I use sPVP or PVE/WvW are:
Shadow Refuge
Shadowstep
Signet of Malice
Hide in Shadows
Dagger Storm for Elite
Shadowstep and Shadowrefuge are probably the best of the setup.
Just use CnD off an illusion and take the time to find the real mesmer. Usually isn’t very hard. Then BS him and cripple and pwn.
The only thing that gets me killed vs. a mesmer is their kitten moa transform.
Can’t do anything except evade twice and run away…
Confirmed above BS thief isn’t for PvE frankly. It can work but you’ll find for most of the time you’re actually confined to shortbow.
I used to feel this way until I started spamming CnD and waiting for NPCs to go after other players then hitting them in the back.
The only problem is that when you fights mobs with huge AOE. They usually hurt and you need to have good judgement to avoid those attacks.
CnD, wait few seconds, maybe CnD again if it wears off, then BS the first mob that attacks a friendly player. CnD again, bs it again. Keep doing that until it’s dead. If you get damaged, vanish and pull off for a moment.
If you get damaged and vanish is down, pull off and use shortbow until vanish comes up again, etc…
BS thief can work very well in dungeons and pve…
I copied Koroshi and haven’t changed much except some traits since….
All my gear is Valk, exception is chest piece which is zerk.
All accessories/weapons are zerk.
Running around 15k HP mobility/bs build.
How much does the halloween cost?
D/D with CND and BS. That’s all you need IMO. You literally need to use CND→BS every time it becomes avail.
The only way I have found to play my thief in pve successfully is the same way I play in pvp/wvw.
Spam CND, get behind a target, his BS, auto attack until reveal debuff wears off, hit CnD again, get behind target. Rinse and repeat. If you start getting hit, just use CnD until agro goes somewhere else.
PvE on thief is tough imo, but played well you can be a huge dps increase for the group.
Costs 4 initiative, which is a decent amount of points.
Currently the only thing this is useful for is snaring.
Pros, snares.
Cons, gets evaded, blocked, misses a lot, 4 initiative, heartseeker does a better job for less.
Previously, this skill did massive damage to targets sitting next to each other and was worth it, now it’s not worth it so much.
I would like to see initiative cost go down (highly unlikely) OR range+snare duration or amount increased.
Only seems fair since this skill was neutered.
The should have boosted the range and crippling effect of dancing dagger to compensate for the huge damage nerf.
Cluster bomb was only useful for roamer thieves like myself when fighting another thief who has stealthed and you needed some aoe damage to hit him in stealth.
That’s pretty much the only time I’ve used it and I play solo 99% of the time. Sure, I’ve used it in zerg fights but it’s never made a dent in a zerg.
On side a note, Call of Duty Black Ops 2 just came out. So who really cares about thieves and this game anymore, right ?

So CnD damage got nerfed (33%), Cluster bomb got nerf (wtf?), and the biggest which was dancing dagger…
I could see dancing dagger getting nerfed and CnD, but cluster bomb? Not that I use it a whole lot, but I don’t think this ability needed a nerf.
Honestly, not a huge nerf to the class IMO. Dancing dagger is going to be the one I feel the most. It was nice finding some noob ranger and spamming dancing dagger and watching it bounce off him and his pet for 2x damage. Now, just hit the key once for snare that’s all it will be useful for. A little over board on that nerf.
If thief gets nerfed then MOA shape change from mesmer should get nerfed. 10s is way too long to be running around as a bird with no attack or defense.
I only play assassin/stealth type classes.
Didn’t look so permanent to me. You came out of stealth like 3 times and had to use hide in shadows to save yourself.
This is worthless in a 1v1, but good from hiding from zergs in zerg fights.
You also can’t be around an enemy or HS finisher will go for the nearest target.
So I tried the “Jinzu Berserker” spec and my normal spec.
Jinzu uses basilisk, skale, haste, assassin signet, hide in shadows…
To kill stuff this guy blows all of his skills except hide in shadows in a matter of 3 seconds. He also uses CnD before he steals.
I played like this in sPvP and while effective to kill 1 person you are totally vulnerable and die way more often because you have no mobility or stun break.
I normally run hide in shadows, shadowstep (stun break), shadow refuge, dagger storm, signet of malice. I don’t kill people in seconds but I rarely die unless I screw something up or I get zerged.
I want to kind of combine the two. Maybe throw in haste and take something out but I can’t decide what to take out. After using haste again I kind of miss it.
Maybe I can gain haste another way in a weapon proc or armor proc or something?
Any thoughts of a combination of skills to gain the best of both worlds, Jinzu spec and mobility spec ?
If BS gets nerfed I will either quit or try Sword/Dagger.
I really like the backstab thing. I don’t think it needs any kind of nerf. People just need to L2P.
I can kill noobs really easy and quick but fighting people with exotics and level 80 is pretty even unless they screw up during the fight.

I use backstab but I don’t front load like what most people are probably complaining about.
Backstab itself is not over powered. What you can do is CnD queue, Steal + Mug for like 4k, then CnD hits for like 1-3k, then bs. Add in any poisons as well…
This move is only available every 30s tho. Otherwise you have to play like I do and use CnD to stealth and then BS, which is not over powered.
Nerf the queuing of CnD before a steal. Make it so that if you steal from someone you can’t be in the middle of a CnD style.
This is about the only nerf I can see as a legit nerf to the class because there are traits that give 2s of stealth after a steal (which i use). I don’t abuse the CnD+Steal.
Nerfing anything else would kill my build.
The only nerf acceptable to me is cnd right after a steal. What the point of traitors 2s stealth after steal if people use cnd before they steal then steal + mug then bs…
I really like anet’s implementation of stealing in this game. Stealing a skill is really fun. Certain NPCs always give you the same skill and players classes always give you the same skill. It’s really nice stealing from a warrior class or stealing from NPCs in AC.
I’ve always hated pick pocketing in most games. Once you are at the end game the skill becomes useless because you already have all the best stuff.
I understood the assassin signet nerf. I got that. People were nearly getting 1 shot even with good gear. That was a bit much. The most I’ve seen on a BS is like 8k and that’s vs. non-80s in crap gear. The most I get is like 5k if I am lucky vs. a non-noob.

I am wearing full exotics of valkyrie, all accessories are ruby+berserker, my chest piece is berserker.
I spent about 30G getting my equipment together. It’s not like I didn’t work to get my character to where he is at. I should be nerfed for that? Seems stupid, why doesn’t everyone else just get 30G and pimp their toon out and stop crying about thieves.
No offence dude, but YOU look like a whiner here. I really think they should do something about the thief. Do i think the class is op? Lol absolutely not. The problem is there are too many of them. Most of thief builds are really easy to play (ofc some ppl play them better than others), so lots of players do not wanna invest their playtime learning to play well an ele or a necro, they simply choose the easiest solution.
It`s not really a “thief problem” imo, would be pretty much the same if there were for ex. too many mesmers or too many necros.
Oh and more class variety means more fun which means more players, so i doubt they care if u quit.

Stealthing classes are always the most popular because they are the coolest. Everyone likes sneaky classes.
There are plenty of mesmers. If something needs a nerfing it should be that moa transform that is pretty much IWIN.
BS ability is not a fight winner. You have to combine it with playing skills and a ton of other things for it to be effective. The MOA transform all you need to do is hit 1 button and you win.
You can’t simply hit backstab and win. You might be able to before assassin signet nerf, but not anymore.
There is no need to for BS nerf. Simply saying you want to nerf a class based on popularity is stupid.
sPvP people probably favor thieves for the mobility in such a small map. When I sPvP I notice tons of thieves, when I do WvW I rarely get fights vs. thieves. I encounter warriors, guardians, mesmers, rangers mostly, occasional necro and last the thief…
That’s probably because you need all the best stuff to be effective as a thief but not so much with the other classes.
You may loose a lot of your player base if you nerf bs into the ground. For me playing d/d is the only thing I enjoy in this game. Just cause noobs running around in wvw without max gear get owned doesn’t mean we need a nerf.
People in spvp don’t get owned by bs. People with max gear in wvw don’t get owned either. Fights with them are usually pretty balanced. Nerfing this skill is dumb and all you are doing is listening to noobs than need to l2p.
Just saying, ill prob quit if this gets nerfed.

I don’t understand how they could nerf bs. I fought a guardian and bs him like 20 times. He was very resilient. I lost to him 4/5 fights.
People who get ripped in wvw to bs need better gear. People in spvp do not get ripped by bs…

If you are spamming hs you are a noob and going to lose the fight.
Hs is a finisher or a one time use because you lost track of your target. Anyone who spams it just needs to l2p. I spammed it too when I first started. I don’t anymore.
Anyone? Serious question IMO. I would love to see some sort of ranking system for wvw like there is in spvp.
I think the only thing that GW2 is missing is a better way to keep track of pvp and wvw kills.
Maybe when you kill a person and they are level 80 you get 80 points, for a level 20 guy, you get 20 points, etc. After so many points you get titles or something cool that isn’t a game changer but more of a visual or prestige change.
I wish there was a “point” system. Even something like sPvP ranks.
I wish there was some sort of ranking system for WvW kills.

Even as d/d I use a lot of sb… I haven’t played in wvw yet tho. Still scrounging cash together to get armor.
I find that Ambush, Wurm, and Thieves Guild have been best for me in pve.
Use your C&D whenever you can and BS.
Nice playing. Looked very similar to D/D playstyle. Minus backstab, add infiltrators. Maybe I will try this in sPVP for fun.
What were your traits/armor/runes?
When transmuting dungeon gear, I noticed you can buy 2 different kinds of gear. Level 70 and level 80 I think. Do I need to purchase level 80 for transmuting?
Is there a way to transmute nightmare armor without doing the dungeon over and over?
Some guy said there was a way with spvp gear. I’m only rank11 in spvp tho.

I come from Daoc. Soloing is usually how I play. I hate zerging because to me it’s boring. If I had the gear I’d be solo in wvw. Korishi, I figured out sigils/runes. I can’t get a group for the life of me to do the ta dungeon. Not sure where your daggers came from tho.
I liked your video. I don’t play wvw cause I can’t figure out how to get good gear. I have no clue how sigils/runes work or transmuting. I just play spvp. I tried your spec out and I like it. It’s pretty fun. If I knew how to get gear for wvw I would probably go with the same “Nightmare” armor look as well. That was my favorite of the dungeon vendors.
I give up on upgrading armor. It’s too confusing in this game. I spent like 5g on random junk and nothing worked right. I have no clue how to get use of all Rune properties. I tried making new armor in pvp and it looked even more kitten than my starting gear. This game and gear seems kind of stupid to me. Everything else is great.

How do you transmute items? Is it possible to buy dungeon gear on tp?
So either craft my own gear, or buy gear off the TP and apply runes to them from TP ? For looks use gw2armor.com and “transmute” them?

I really enjoy the thief. I don’t play WvW tho because my gear is terrible and I get owned in like 2-3s by almost everything. I can’t solo worth a crap in wvw, but in pvp I can kill lots of things 1v1. I don’t feel overpowered but I don’t feel underpowered. I am heavy venom spec, 30DA, 20SA, 20CS. I’m not super experienced player or anything but I am enjoy it. I usually start with devour venom, get them low, then spider venom so they can’t heal, then basilisk for the final kill.
I use that recharge poisons trait on steal when all poisons are down.
Where do you get decent gear comparable to PvP gear for thief?
I enjoy playing thief. I am heavy venom spec with spider venom, basilisk, and devour. D/D and SB.
I play PvP cause I like the gear you get and everyone seems pretty equal gear wise.
However, when I go to WvW I get owned by everything cause my gear is terrible. I have no clue where to get good gear. I have 60+k karma points and some badges of honor etc.
I am level 80 and have 1 exotic dagger but it kind of sucks and an exotic SB.
How/Where do you find gear for WvW? I’d like life leech weapons if possible like I have in pvp.
Where is best merchant to spend karma points?
Are there any gear guides out there? I am totally clueless when it comes to gear in this game. All I know is that legendaries have slightly better stats than exotic and look cooler but are much harder to get. I’d be happy with exotic.
