I think I’ve logged in once since thief beta weekend and that was cause wife was on Xbox…
Will login for next thief beta weekend… If thief still sucks by time hot comes out may no be playing gw2 very much anymore…

Just make these two changes baseline. No matter what spec you go with you will have these buffs…
All attacks from thief no longer trigger passive defenses like end pain, stun reverb, fear, etc…
Also, all forms of stealth remove player inflicted reveal but do not remove self inflicted reveal.
3s reveal in spvp.
Problems solved…
We need two buffs.
I would put this as minor baseline in cs..
Thiefs Insight: All attacks no longer trigger passive defensive abilities.
And the other as minor baseline in SA.
Sneaky thief: Stealth abilities remove reveal from all non self inflicted reveal debuffs.
These two buffs would fix thief imo. You could also add more reveal debuffs to other classes for more counter play…
I’m probably overstaying my welcome here in the thief forums, but I’d like to add my 2 cents to the mechanic denial debate, and clear up some misconceptions.
Warrior, necromancer, and to some extent, Mesmer both experience mechanic denial, and while Necromancers are fairly strong against D/P, both Necromancer and Warrior are subject to, quite literally, “mechanic denial” when facing a S/D thief or anything with high avoidance, especially Necromancer which actually has a much harder time with S/D than D/P, despite its less than optimal performance overall.
Evading a LF building attack or a Scepter or Axe can leave a Necromancer almost entirely void of Life Force which is basically certain death against a thief. This is part of the reason most PvP Necromancer builds have adopted to Soul Marks/Dagger+Warhorn and Spectral Armor. It’s the most likely to build sufficient Life Force against a thief, where a build that differs from this norm can be quite literally cut from most of their “mechanic”, which also includes basically all of their defense.
Warriors are similar in that the more pure-avoidance you have, the harder it is to build Adrenaline which reduces Burst finished rates, lower condition removal, less healing and so on, so that’s something to consider.
Mesmers are a bit in their own category where AOE is a mechanic denial.
Arguably, these situations are more of a mechanic denial as these are things ALL warrior/Necromancer/Mesmers use, and not just certain build types.
Food for thought.
I don’t see any specific examples of how a s/d stops necros from building LF…
Necros just has to hit spec armor whole he’s taking damage and presto LF…
Besides s/d sucks due to now… Pretty much a non viable build since the nerf to acro line and several sword skill nerfs.
This thread makes me laugh. Thieves are so crappy now due to major nerfs and stealth counter play.

Try playing shield/mace + gs warrior. How many skull cracks can u miss and still win?

Extreme bunk or sustain on thief doesn’t work. You won’t die often but you won’t kill anyone either… Just useless and since requires stealthing you want hold a point…
I play berserker full burst with da ca trickery with scholars. Yes, you can burst people. You make a mistake and get caught with abilities on cd and you are dead. You have to blow 1-2 abilities just to survive the auto immunity passive abilities and keep track of what you trigger them in a fight…
A lot of work as thief to do well…
Or you could just refill a warrior wearing berserkers and pop rampage and chain cc people to death.
It would be nice if flanking strikes somehow prevented us from triggering auto immunities…
Thief needs an ability that renders auto immunities useless…

This needs to be based on a limit to how many condi/heals you get in 1s.
Something like max of 3 condi/3 heals per second or something. As to punish players spamming abilities during dodge but also not make it OP.
Current implementation of this is rather useless.
Animations for staff are way to clunky. Staff in general as is has no synergy. Pretty much useless weapon… Needs a lot of buffs to compete with d/p.
DD is just about useless. The dodge animations actually make you feel slower and more awkward. I suggest making these baseline and a toggle. Coming up with some real fm traits..
Remember as a thief we are giving up another line for DD. it has to compare to other lines. Right now it does not. Out of all the classes this one seems like the most incomplete…
Thief build with DD or staff is actually a step backwards at this stage in of HoT…
The only thing half way viable is a d/d condi build. Guess we all have to play like Karl McLain on his poi stream or else we don’t use new trait line…
Yea. So the way you land insta back stabs as d/p is actually not 5/2/1…
5/2/2/2 to stack some stealth, wait for the opponent to expose himself. Right after 2 dodges or something… Then hit 1 to precast and then use steal of inf signet to close that gap before bs casts…
When you do it right you will teleport to target and land that backstab at the same time.

They gave us staff and I’m sure there will be a broom skin on the horizon so that all thieves can quit playing and spend thief time cleaning up lions arch…

I put my condi Mesmer in all dire the other day… It’s like 10x better than thief in wvw and spvp…
Just FYI you can dodge while dazed. So that bit where gives the no time to dodge is no good.
Best way to land your pw is to precast it and the steal right before the daze applies…
Pretty sure shadow trap is a stun break also after setting it. I’d go with it over the assassin trap. May give this a kitten on my power thief. It’s funny on condi thief…
Pretty sure they won’t ever buff thief as hard as they buffed condi Mesmer… So I really don’t care anymore about this class. Just going to play condi Mesmer and 1v3 people in spvp.
Problem is that your are too squishy to have a “brawl” type play style. Even with these brawl type traits. If you go with valk or soldier you don’t do damage to be effective .
Mauraders is still too squishy and a little less damage.
So why put traits in anything other than bursting the kitten out of people? Just change your play style up to attack people on the out skirts of aoe and +1 fights?
Builds like this remind me of trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. Just not going to fit well…
Just roll a godmode condi PU mesmer and watch the tears flow…
People complain about my PU mesmer. Then I tell them I used to main thief until last patch and they should go ask for thief buff if they want me off the OP mesmer.
Rampage is lol when combined with heightened senses…
This build doesn’t have enough damage for me. Although it does allow you to me lee more in fights.
Literally I just burst someone and then shortbow/defense for
10s and then burst again when weapon swap comes up.
You have to be very situationally aware to play thief…

Theme of spec: hitting people with your Nerf bat skills will diminish other classes ability to use core mechanics just like arena net has done to thief.
I like C and E. Not a bad fan of the zenith skins except the shield. So I would get shield and use it on chronomancer.
Anet is not adding any new weapon types to the game. Only adding the same weapons to other classes… So no new kinase or whatever else u wanted.

Chrono is OP. I played it all weekend as condi build. Dropping double time warp or basically having time warp on 60s CD was really nice. Not to mention reduced CD on all skills and never a shortage of clones for shatter…
Chronomancer is OP…
Just burst and stealth longer. If it’s condi Mesmer just give up unless you outnumber him…
It would be nice if the added blind to #5 and changed #3 to have shadow step with multi stab like a pistol whip but without the self root and less damage.
Current #3 is junk…

Shadowstep on CnD ? No ty. First thing that comes in mind – broken surfaces that makes shadowstep work weird or dont work at all (all kind of hills, rocks, stairs, wolf poops in the way…).
You realize shadow shot has this and it is just fine. Also allows you to port to players on objects. I think adding shadow step+blind to cnd would bring d/d in line with d/p.
My shadow shot works like 99% of the time…

I usually just face the other direction of my target. Helps most of the time.
Best time to swap for hydromancy is when they are in close. Radius on that isn’t so great.
I’m not 100% but do not think it counts towards ele attunements… Think those are considered weapon swaps. Same as engi kits…
Not sure why you would play this build but hope u r having fun…
Possibly easiest face roll build/class in game to play.
Makes condi thief look like joke.
