You need 10 in shadow arts for condi removal on stealth. Also need to swap to sb at some point to bide time until heals come back up and them to blow CDs.
Acro is only for s/d and some obscure d/d builds…
Trickery/sa/crit are most used trait lines for pvp/wvw/pve.
Anet doesn’t care about thief. Not sure why we are trying to beat dead horse here…
Run 6/6/2 in spvp hot joins and troll people with 5k-8k hs.

I don’t play wvw anymore and if it weren’t for hot joins I would have quit this game long ago. Simply because thief has the most rediculous and illogical nerfs in the game.
4s reveal in spvp only.

Classes with abilities that negate 2/3 of our builds.
Dumb traits like equilibrium and such.
Prob could go on. A net just doesn’t understand thieves…
The only problem with sic em is that when it shows as debuff on your bar you can’t tell how long it lasts. You can’t tell the difference between revealed from sic em or from your own stealthing…
Sic em revealed needs to be a color coded debuff so we know by looking that we need to dodge instead of stealth.
Often I’ve got hit by sic em just after coming out of stealth. With no animation or knowing from the ranger my only option is to mouse over my debuff and check the time. Just not possible with the speed of combat in this game…
Devs just don’t care about thief…
I’ve been running 6/6/2 for fun. Hits hard and has condi clears. 2/0/6/0/6 is also pretty good in hot joins. A lot less damage but survivability goes way up.
Greatsword first for me.
Melee staff second.
Nome because they follow you in stealth and reveal your location.

Rangers do have disengage. Stealth from lb3 and then gs3… Usually gets you some good distance but not as good as thief.
Yes they do more damage with a lot less effort…
Skelk is horrible… Fun on venom share for about 1 match in pvp then you start to realize other builds are better.

So basically then when a guard’s passive aegis pops during CnD and then he pops it again during stab, the thief should be left with 0 initiative and out of stealth after two tries. So no skill use and no damage left. Do that and I’d demand for all other classes to see their cooldowns to not tick down while auto-attacking or using other skills. That’s basically what you’ve asked to happen.
No, that’s not at all a good idea. Maybe the guard should be less braindead and dodge when the aegis gets popped a second time, or any other class not be stupid and dodge roll to make all of the stab attempts fail to begin with.
That is, unless you want to put skills like CnD on a 4 initiative cost, but then D/P would still be overpowered and Shadow Arts/stealth builds would be even stronger than they currently are.

Heard that one before. The solution is to move backstab off of the 1 slot (up to f2) and give thieves a stealth auto-attack to clear aegis/blinds. I agree that it’s a peculiar situation, though.

I’m forced to spend a 12s CD and two dodge rolls just to prevent all 4 backstab attempts. It’s really broken that a thief can bait that many high-value CDs without spending a single point of initiative.

Mesmer defense are shatters, dodge rolls, stealth, and sword #2. If you were good you would have turned around and bursted that thief.

You need to stealth against wraith form until you can break his stability with steal. Break his stab, use f1 to fear him and then dps him. They hit hard cause they are glass and you are a thief. Against the death shroud form you need to keep them blinded and avoid the black hand things he throws at you. That form also has a fear. So better have a stun break up…
Only defense from s/p is 3 spam. Maybe shadow return. I like s/p but I feel like it’s a 1 trick pony. D/p, d/d and even s/d require more skills to be used. Black powder is useless now as well for defense.
I think what you just described is the role of any thief in pvp…

I think we need color schemes for the level of revealed we received. Simple ui change.
Ok so this is my problem. I can’t tell if I am revealed from Sic Em or the goggles thing from engi, or trap in wvw vs. my own from attacking in stealth. The only way is to mouse over.
It’s really easy to miss one of these attacks in a combat situation and not all of them have great graphics.
I propose that revealed debuff on our buff/debuff bar be shown in different colors. Like red for the 30s from trap in wvw, orange from sic em/goggles. That way you know how long each last without having to mouse over.
Anyone else have this problem? BTW I play with graphics at a minimum for best FPS.
Also, WTF do we have 4s revealed in sPvP still?!!?
If u want an assassin thief is that class, just don’t expect a lot of on shot kills unless you are in wvw…

I wvw for first time in like a year the other day. Used old 06620 build. I find it now impossible to play thief without trickery… In wvw you also need sa for 1vX. I am trying 00626 with full berserker. Thinking of using rage runes for longer fury up time instead of scholar…
Just get a ranger and use sic em…. Last time I tried to wvw I ran into 3 rangers with sic em… It was not very fun. Not even sure why I try to wvw anymore on thief…

Warrior: when they pop berserker or end pain just avoid them. When it drops dps.
Mesmer: hands down one of easiest classes with this build. Dps with devourer and follow if they blink. They have no condo clears usually and eat full duration immob.
Thief: I like to start with sb stealth attack for immob. They will use withdraw. Then devourer and dps.
Ranger: power drops easy straight dps. If they use invuln they hide for duration and dps. Condo Rangers you need to hide more often and time bursts.
Engi: turret engi is a no go. Other engi usually don’t have on demand condo clear and I’ve seen thm use elixir s and be immob whole time and die after.
Necro: just avoid wells and boon rip stab from loch form. Interrupt their condo clear heal.
Wvw or spvp ? Try 602006. Panic strike with devourer. Watch your enemies go “wtf?!???” When they eat a 10s immob…
Panic strike and devourer destroy them. Use devourer upfront they will roll out of it. Then panic strike kicks in and they die. Drop bp walk behind them and spam aa.
66002 or 56003 don’t work so well because of the lack of stability rip. Thief ripping stab is pretty much must have in pvp these days.
The devourer plus panic strike is a 10s immob and usually destroys engi and mesmer as they usually don’t have on demand clears.
I think the best burst with decent survivability is the 56003 but targets can easily escape.
I think 26006 has better burst but less overall Dow because targets move…

10s immob is a pita without a clear.

I think I played last night with a thief and saw he was using sos. I knew he was going to be terrible. I came in first on my team and was dead last… I don’t think we won but he was terrible…

Everytime I do solo q I’m the only thief on the team. Maybe 1/5 the other team has one. Usually I’d join and have like 3 thief on my team and have to swap…
I used to rube the 6 cs 6 tricker and yes it’s more dps on a backstab or if you can stay on a target… But perma immob someone without a clear and they are done. Other thieves are lol when withdraw is down.
Less dos but more effective imo. I feel like I don’t need swift. I use sb for mobility and my opponents are usually immob so no need to chase.
Honestly I just wanted something diff than regular trickery/cs build… It’s fun. Been playing trickery/cs build since they buff sleight of hand. Imo trickery is must in any build except an sa build…
When I play mine in solo q I am usually the only one and don’t have to swap characters…

This isn’t new or anything and I’m not taking credit for it. Just feels like the only effective build to me. Burst someone with devourer up and when they hit 50% panic strike kicks in. Rage runes for perma fury. Haste on crit is must.
