I run d/p for the stealth on demand and burst from stealth. Use shortbow for the cleave and poison when I am avoiding their cleave…

Still, patch was overall nerf.

I run scholar for that burst…

Just count on my excellent gameplay to not die in 1-2 hits

I played thief yesterday in unranked and dominated the other team. Only because they would never pressure me… I literally spammed sb 2 into a group of 3 for 2-4k damage a hit and never even had to move…

Bad opponents are bad no matter what class u r on…

Only problem with sic em is that you have no clue what caused the reveal… You can’t tell if it’s your own or done by an ability like sic em. We need color coded reveal debuffs when done by skills like sic em. Been asking since wvw traps came out but anet hates us…

This is how I feel about this thread:

No one at anet plays thief or cares about it. They don’t listen to community either. They just make random changes based on feed back from warriors and mesmers which results in nerfs….

Feel like moving to maurader or even valk isn’t worth it.

We still are very squishy and can’t stay on a point. Valk maybe die in 5-6 hits. Maurader 3-4, berserker, 2-3.

The offense you lose from not using berserker just doesn’t seem worth the trade off. Which is why I’m still running berserker.

The offense to defense ratio from going into more defense ammy is way off for thief because of our innate squishyness…

There’s plenty of builds that are viable but there is only one build that is clearly optimal for thief in ranked pvp…

Yea I wouldn’t mind knowing so that I can put more time into other classes. Been loving berserker rampage warrior, shatter mesmer, pu shatter condi mesmer.

Thief is OK but can’t stand on a point for more than 2-3s before getting focused and killed… I have a lot of issues dieing to shadowstep not going over a small hill or something. A small lag spike or after cast not allowing instant shadowstep to work. You literally have to play perfectly to not die. All other classes can make tons of mistakes and live even with berserker ammy.

Da/cs/trickery scholar runes… Pretty rest is the same tho…

If u r going to switch I’d switch to rage… Quickness will give you more dps…

The OP is just trolling… I wouldn’t mind that assassin mode from another post with unbearable stealth for 8s, auto porting backstab, etc…

I lik d/p the best simply because every skill is useful for something in that set. Unlike d/d…
S/d all skills are useful but some a lot less than others….

Prob not compared to engi. You won’t like it when they reveal with any damage right after u stealth then blow u up…

Valkyrie ammy isn’t bad. It’s not like this is new. Problem is that you don’t have the dps to take someone down I between backstabs. Literally your only source of damage is backstab…

If u play squishy thief you just need to stay out of team fights or literally off point to avoid cleave.

Just wanted to add. I never try to burst someone who is in the middle of a ton of aoe.

Only burst targets off to the side or a spot you can avoid that cleave…

Fairly easy to do in stronghold. Harder in conquest.

This isn’t anything new. I’ve tried a ton of builds since patch. I always played burst thief before. Just wanted to post what I’m playing with. Been doing a lot of stronghold recently cause it’s fresh. Mainly do unranked matches these days tho.

So yea it’s full burst and I die to like 2 auto attacks but I just don’t let people hit me much.

I use inf signet offensively or to secure a stomp. Very rarely defensively. I basically just burst and then dip out and burst again. Maybe dump few hs or autos depending on result of burst. The mili second I realize anyone is hitting me at all I shadow step away and drop refuge or bp/hs. Depending on how hard I am being focus. I use his to drop those 5 stacks of burning that can down thief from 100-0.

It’s a very in and out kind of play style. If my CDs are down I play defensively with sb until they are back up.

While I still agree all classes are now better than a thief I just like this class better and don’t really have fun playing them as much as thief.

My problem with ports is no line of sight issue when my guy can see over a tiny little hill.

I’ve died plenty of times because of it.

Honest opinion, I main thief but play more of classes now because it’s too hard to play a thief these days. Thief needs something to counter those passive abilities that block thief burst. All those passive auto immunities or stun reverb stuff killed our class. When I play my other classes in unranked and fight a thief it’s silly how easy they die. I just avoid the initial burst and then 2 shot them with autos…

It’s not fun to play thief anymore… It’s so frustrating playing really well only get destroyed by a passive ability. Maybe if basi venom was u breakable stun again or we had some way of not triggering those passives that might help…

Nobody knows the answer to this?

Does the trait Peak Performance affect the damage of rampage?

So, I can pop berserker stance right before going into rampage, which would give me full adrenaline.

Does my damage get increased?

Thief has like the worst underwater abilities in the game… Try fighting a warrior underwater vs thief lol.

I feel like necros are strong in team fights. Unholy martyr in combination with other deathshroud traits give you almost unlimited DS. Not to mention you get thief shadow embrace while in deathshroud also…

The guy who complained about f2 was being rediculous. I made the same mistake when I first played after patch too. Kept hitting f1 to use my stolen skill. It is definitely a l2p issue. I still make thy mistake from time to time…

Problem with thief is that we are pretty much burst or bust now. If we want survivability and condi clears we need all the defensive trait lines and we can’t get any damage trait lines. In wvw going all in on defense works. In pvp it doesn’t because we can’t kill fast enough and are still really squishy using a maurader or zerker. Any other amulet the damage is too low to use.

From what I can tell there there is really only 2 builds for spvp. Venom share with da/trickery or da/cs/trick. You can run d/d or s/p or d/p but I think the best is d/p. Each has its strengths and weaknesses. Traits will vary depending on weapons you choose but overall the lines are the same…

I used to run 6/6/2 before patch. Took the 2 just for shadows embrace. I can’t do AT&T anymore. Which I think hurt build diversity. We can’t pick and choose our lines anymore. All in or nothing…

I destroy in hotjoins too. In fact I think we got a boost against noobs who don’t run immunity passives or react slowly. Try playing against competent players in tpvp tho… We got a big nerf against those guys because their builds will most likely include those passives along with a good reaction time when they are down.

Just saying, thief got nerfed hard…

To do well in wvw you need to run sa+acro+trickery… You can’t take damage trait lines…

D/d is truly 1 shot build… Assuming you are fighting another gc.

13k back stabs and ~5-6k combination of cnd+mug. Problem is most class have a passive to negate your burst without having to react or think…

What’s funny is that necro a new condi removal on entering DS works same way as old SE…

Problem with this build is that it is negated by passive abilities like end pain, necro has two passives to stop burst, engi has one, etc.

So really at high level play I don’t see thief viable. Fun in hot joins tho….

Cele warrior is awesome and so is fear necro….

I don’t even really use stealth anymore after patch…

Maybe this guy is just pro and sa+acro is the new meta… Or maybe he has no clue what’s he’s doing…

Build diversity died because thief is just +1er now…

Sure u can do that we venom share or sa or acro now but essentially we can’t 1v1. Only burst and then run away.

I think sa rather useless now because our defense line doesn’t really offer defense. Only reason I’d take it is to run venom share build.

Only viable build imo is trickery da cs…

Sa got nerfed too hard to use and I would pick acro over sa but you lose util or dps for it…

It’s huge nerf and the one I don’t like the most. If u want to remove 10 stack of bleeds before chance were than it was first to get removed. Because it was last applied. Same with an immob or cripple/chill…

Now it’s useless… We need sa and acrobatics to get decent condi removal and it’s still not as good as old shadows embrace…

I don’t anticipate playing this game much longer…

This change thieves just need to get used to. Once we all remember to hit f2 or our new bind then it will be fine. I kept hitting f1 trying to use stolen skill and messing it up too…

Actually, cripple and immob and chill are the ones I want to remove most… Don’t work on them anymore…

Shadows Embrace got nerfed HARD this patch… It doesn’t work on all conditions now…

Like thieves had amazing condi removal before?
