Or just give a Specialization that replaces the pet altogether with new F skills. Didn’t Colin say (I didn’t get to read a transcript of the presentation yet) something about the F skills getting replaced with the Specializations?
Really, the big thing that Rangers lacked was a solid AoE and CC weapon, and given the grasping roots that’s what this appears to be.
I think Harnel nailed it. /thread
I’ll be specializing into whichever one allows me to get rid of the pet… If none do, I’ll specialize into whichever one improves DPS for the Ranger the most.
Otherwise, I’ll be playing on the new class.
I think it brings flavor to the game. I mean its fun to kill someone by throwing flowers and unicorn at their face. well maybe not unicorn e.e’.
I made the brony bow because I didn’t know I was going to get more precursors… Now I just keep the same skin to use in wvw to keel with a brony bow. If I can I’ll just sit there and shoot unicorns into their dead corpse for effect.
We obviously don’t know how the overall population of the game is, but it appears to be healthy.
This is exactly what Megaserver was designed to do. Hide the real population numbers.
That’s one of the guys I run dungeons with. He has a very limited 1-2 hr window in the evening hours during the week he can play so he wants to get as many completed as fast as possible.
It’s not the one instance of using the five extra minutes, it is the cumulative effective of those five extra minutes of every run. They add up. I know you were looking at the short time but I was looking long term effect. Not only that, more DPS nerfs will come in the future. That has been the trend for the 2 years I’ve been playing.
Only really noticeable if you’re doing run after run after run. In which case, you clearly don’t have other responsibilities in life, so what does it even matter?
Since you must know of my personal life I’ll indulge you: I only work six months out of the year… and I don’t have kids… But when I’m on my time off of work (because I travel, i.e. I’m away from my wife and home, the other six months of year) I value my time when I am home much more than the normal 8-5’er that does get to sleep in their bed every night. That being said it is my prerogative to choose what I want to do with my time. Like yesterday, I spent the vast majority of my day building a stone fire pit in my backyard
I feel like speed or efficiency bonuses would be a better way to give people what they actually want than just making the encounters inaccessible.
I can whole heartily agree with you on this point
Yup, got tired of not being a d \\ bag because I’m tired of the bads ruining the game by convincing Anet to nerf things they can’t do, like play zerk builds.
There’s so much wrong with your post and your attitude I don’t know where to begin.
So, we’ll go with this: Your understanding of game development is only matched by your ability to effectively present your position.
Drain it dry because I don’t care if you don’t like my attitude or post. Fact is fact that bads have been screaming for nerfs for a long time because they can’t play them. That was painfully evident on the forum right before the ferocity change hit.
Good.

Ah, so I was correct in my labeling. My assumptions were also correct. Some of us enjoy getting things done quickly. Others, like yourself, don’t get enjoyment from doing thing efficiently. I don’t get any enjoyment from PVP, others do. The difference is I don’t scream at the top of my lungs on the forum for Anet to nerf classes in PVP because they are OP in PVE… If you see doing things efficiently as a job, that is your problem, not mine.

There are pve related issues to might, namely might stacking is very powerful and in some cases greatly effects the intended difficulty of encounters.
“intended difficulty” is the key phrase here. Not being bad can effect the “intended difficulty” so how are they going to nerf good players? Well, they tried by the universal vigor nerf and whatnot. It’s changes like this that just widen the gap between the goods and the bads.
Yup, got tired of not being a d \\ bag because I’m tired of the bads ruining the game by convincing Anet to nerf things they can’t do, like play zerk builds.
The big controversy will be the Might nerf. In PvE, this will change about nothing. Everybody will do a bit less dmg in organized group, but most pugs group will never see any different. But it won’t change a thing is how we play.
Won’t change how you play. Will change how I play and change who I play with. Maybe you aren’t good enough to notice the lack of DPS in parties that aren’t full zerk (which makes you bad), but plenty of us are. It will make PuG runs last that much longer. If you think it won’t you’re being purposefully ignorant.
It’s these nerfing DPS changes that make me really really really want the ability to gear check other players.
Edit: I don’t stack might, and don’t typically play in organized groups (or with groups at all), and 99% of the content is still a stroll through the park.
I do stack might. I do typically play in organized groups. I’m guessing you don’t do high level fractals in any efficient manner whatsoever… And you’re part of the waste your time and play the least efficient way possible crowd. That’s fine. You do that. But I don’t need Anet making the time sync of completing dungeons and fractals longer than it already is. I don’t want to “stroll” through content. I want to complete it as fast as possible given I’ve already done it 500+ times. I’ll definitely notice on my Ranger the nerf to might. Just like I noticed the difference after the “animation fix” to the Ranger short bow nerfing it’s total damage output.
So in the end we wil get 750 Power and condition damage max at 25 stacks instead of 875. Well I figure: with empower allies and banner it is still 1070 power and 920 condition damage.
So I’ll go from 2750 (with food) +1195 (might and buffs)= 3945 with my pug carrier
to 3820… 3820/3945= 3.5% nerf on Zerk Pug Carrier Warrior.
I do not mind, It will reduce the zerker meta a bit, and as other builds have been buffed a bit It should work out alright.
A few question to devs though:
If you do this and you run a pet build with ranger, you’ll be nerfed doubly, as both the pet and the ranger will be hit by the loss of 125 power… How will you compensate this??It is a bigger problem for Hybrid builds (power/condi) requiring might stacking and seeing might being reduced for both power and condition damage. How will you compensate for this?
Will you consider an upgrade to base damage AND/or damage scaling on “condition weapons” as well? Sword for warrior, scepter for necro, and mesmer, staff for mesmer SB and axe for ranger and conditin odffhands of course?Again this might nerf is about power. But condition damage ALSO scales with might,. This will be nerfed as well. The effects of a potential nerf for condition damage would again lower the damage potential of a part of the meta already shunned by most of the people playing wvw and pve at the moment. how are you going to deal with this?
They’re not going to “do” anything about the things you outlined. Like someone in my guild said: all enemies were going to get a health buff or start making us hit like wet noodles. They’re taking the wet noodle route.
Lightning whip nerf really sucks.
Yup. They need to make that a PVP only change. No one was complaining about it in PVE.
LOL… They even have time wasting syncs on the forum! “Please wait 300 seconds between posts!”
I believe this is actually something people were asking for in spvp (toning down might stacking builds). It seems like a viable approach to what many see as an issue, without damaging other skills/builds/aspects. So we’ll see how it plays out.
I’m liking some of the class tweaks as well.
So, if it spvp asking for it they should make it a pvp only change.
No one needs it taking longer (read: time sync) to kill the same stuff we are already killing. If anything it’s going to make the zerker meta that much more needed to compensate for the damage loss from stacking might. GTHO “i play how i want”. Oh, and none of the buffs the classes are going to get are going to compensate for that much might nerf. None. Zero.
/shrug …… Gratz ?
Ha. I was thinking the same thing.
Ok, so, no way to play only deathmatch and it still go towards the reward track?
And, trust me, Tael, if I could do WVW and it go towards the PVP reward track, I would.
Kdaddy, I didn’t say DM is anything like WVW. You asserted that… nor did I say it took less strategy because again that is something YOU are asserting and not something I said.
Wahoo! Bye frands!
Your posts are so annoying to read that I stopped reading two sentences in. Stop using the exclamation point so much. Nearly every one of your sentences doesn’t need it and shouldn’t have it. Stop. Just stop.
That said Anet should definitely push for more incentives for casuals to get involved with PvP.
- a temporary MF/Karma boost
- small boost to PvE XP gain
- achievement points for watching PvP events
- more titles (difficulty or grind on par with the PvE ones)
- MORE SKINS!The list could go on. Anet should definitely continue on the path they’re headed and should experiment more with incentives.
At the top of that list should be more deathmatch maps. Conquest mode is sh__ and not fun. Deathmatch is a little bit better. I’m a pure PVE’r and I don’t enjoy PVP. None of that you listed is going to get people that I know into PVP… Then again I’m PVP’ing at the moment for the glorious armor set since it is only one of two medium armors that aren’t ___king dresses on males. Once I get it it’ll be a LONG time, if ever, before I PVP again. No reason to come over even for the dailies.
Most I see (that I have started to PVP for the glorious armor — the only not a f__king dress medium armor that’s worth a kitten in the game) is bunker guardian, d/d ele, and turret engie. Of course, I’m just playing unranked to get through this PVP bull__it and be done with it.
Conquest mode is _hit and turret engie meta build in the one deathmatch map ruins the fun because the other time just acts like the engie is a capture point and stay around him dropping his turrets. More than one deathmatch has been ruined with turret engies for me.
Bran, I know they’ve said that many times that they are going to leave us handicapped with less controls than we need. That is what makes me sad.
And you’re right on the stacking. After I’ve done a dungeon 1000 times I don’t want it to take any longer than it has to. So, me and the many I run with, are going to do what it takes to get through it fast.
Not sure about the youtube thing. Maybe I posted that while I was drunk but I don’t care enough while sober to go back and look.
How the profession is played is directly related to getting rid or making the pet better… so… And starting another thread that is just going to be ignored by Anet, like this one, because it contains things that would make the Ranger better but they are the ostrich with its’ head in the sand is pointless… much like this thread.
Even in the one deathmatch map just had it ruined by turret engie that the team just bunked around. Just couldn’t get close.
You’d be surprised at what this bored housewife does sometimes
……go on…..
the pet die too easily in dungeon, damage contributed is low hence.
I have to ask, what dungeons are people talking about? I used to do daily dungeon tours whenever I had the time, and pet death nowhere near being a problem.
I saw some guys in this thread saying their pets were dead 90 % of the time… Yeah, it’s probably an exaggeration, but if it’s even close to being that bad, you simply suck at pet management.
As I have stated multiple times before, a zerking melee ranger (meaning gear and traits) melee zerker pet (meaning not a ranged pet and not a bear … meaning cat only) is going to have a bad time. If you’re a ranger in a dungeon you should be melee with zerker with zerker pet. If not, you’re being carried. Unfortunately, the pet doesn’t dodge nor does it not know how to path around red rings. So yes, as a melee zerking ranger, the pet is going to be down much more of the time than it’s going to be up. Honestly, that’s a good argument to just not bring a ranger into a fractal/dungeon at all. If it wasn’t for spotter and frost spirit, they’d be out-right banned from any kind of efficient dungeoning.
If there’s a L2P issue it’s learn not to pewpew from 1500 range and learn how to melee and be a boon to your party instead of being carried. But hey, I know you play how to want and f_ck everybody else.
Pretty much slowed down the rate of fire because PVP people were complaining it was OP so they nerfed it without saying they nerfed it by calling it an “animation fix” which is part of the reason I despise PVP players. They get PVE stuff nerfed because Anet doesn’t want to put the man hours into balancing skills separately like they should because it’s not gem store related.
How do I only play deathmatch (because Conquest is f__king kittened) and it still go towards my reward path?
Bad idea is bad.
/thread
P.S. This is why they got rid of the Suggestion subforum.
At Open World PVE’s current state it could be broken again. Open World PVE’s already braindead easy mode no matter what build you play. Let’s just pray that it stays like this until they finally rework Open World PVE into a game mode that actually has risk.
Cause let’s face it, this Open World PVE is THE number 1 braindead easy mode in the game. I really don’t think they should buff anything on this game mode.
There. Now it makes sense.
Not saying I agree or disagree, but…
1) They shot that down countless time for Anet Ranger means ‘The Pet Class’.
2) Unfortunatly they’ve (at least for the time being) struck down additional keybinds/control on the pets. The reasoning behind it was about skill floor raising that they wanted to avoid.
3) Also something they aren’t willing to do
4) Too much chance of labeling it an I win button, also could potentially be used to find additional exploitative spots in future encounters (see how almost the entire PvE design of the game at launch and them forgetting the stupid amount of reflection given to guardian)
5) Was also shot down can’t have 2 rangers destroying dungeons or some such reason.Side note on 3) In finding some way they could do that would be a balance neutral change that would generally have a positive reaction from the community, but who knows,
The pet system is currently a large problem that unless they have changed their stance on will continue to exist only receiving Bandaid fixes as Anet refuses to handle any but the quick fix options.
Slightly offtopic, but with the general removal of water combat (or just it phasing out of sPvP) I think that ranger is kind of owed an additional balance patch after that Aquaman patch a certain someone was promising big improvements for Ranger.
I know the reasons why they won’t do what I, and many other Rangers on the forums, have requested. And the #5 reason you were thinking of was when John Sharp infamously said two bearbows the bears would just go in there are “rip the face off” of whatever it is they were attacking… Which was total bull_hit and how many of us really knew that he had NO F__CKING CLUE how to play a Ranger or what it was like to play a Ranger.
Curious, where do you get your information?
Observation and common sense.
And, apparently, pulling a lot of it out of your backside in your above posts.
Lot of what you mention is assumptions… And, as you say, pure speculation so it doesn’t have any real value.
I really really would like to see new dungeon content. And it’s a safe assumption that the large number of people (10000+) who play/played in dungeons would like to see new content after 2 years. (See what I did there?)
It use to fire a lot faster. Then the “animation fix” nerf happened.
OP: It doesn’t need anymore nerf. Use a different weapon.
Meh, for Casual solo PvE you can do whatever you want, who cares? I’m running around in Clerics with Vampire and I’ve never even approached a problem. What exactly does “optimal” do for you when you’re soloing anyway? Do you honestly kill trash so much faster that it matters?
That’s what I was thinking. Unless you’re going to party up for dungeons/fractals it really doesn’t matter.
No. It’s not possible to keybind the stow button. It’s been my gripe for 1,777 hours and 38 minutes over the past 730 days on my Ranger. Also a gripe that I don’t have a keybind for stow/unstow. It’s obvious looking at the bar active/passive should be F4, and stow/unstow should be F5, and swap out pet should be F6.
I’ve already have stated it COUNTLESS times what I want:
1) Give me the option to opt-out of pets
2) Give me more keybinds
2a) Keybind for active/passive
2b) Keybind for stow/unstow
3) Store pet names on client side
4) Make pathing AI smart enough NOT to go straight through red rings if you call them back
5) Massive PVE AOE damage reduction
I’m not asking for much. That’ll put pets in a MUCH better spot… Much closer to this “OK” you are fond of.
(edited by thefantasticg.3984)
OK is not acceptable.
Ok = Not Good… Just… Ok… Meaning LOTS of room for improvement… They can start with the keybinds.
Don’t get me started on the kitten-kitten knobs that leave the FotM once they get their daily chest. If you’re going to do a FotM daily, at least make them finish the freaking run before they just dash off.
How do they get their daily fractal chest without ending the run? Are you not talking about the daily end boss fractal chest?
You only need to complete a single fractal to finish the fractal daily, not the daily chest bonus you receive after finishing 3-4 paths. So people get the chest and leave after the first fractal. Well more appropriately, people get CARRIED, get the chest, then leave.
They have a new Fractal daily that requires you to finish the 1-9 scale end boss fractal… I’ve done it with guildies.
Going to give my standard reply to this complaint.
1) PvE players are the ones who keep the lights on at Anet. Adventure, RPG, PvE gamestyle is the bread and butter of pretty much every dev out there, with a couple notable exceptions. It’s unfortunate, but it’s true. The same dev time applied to the two player bases will result in drastically more financial return from PvE players.
2) The above aside, every single balance change since release had been done with absolutely no consideration at all except for PvP. The only exception to this is the Fiery Great Sword nerf.
3) The only non-trenchcoat medium armour that a human male can get is PvP exclusive. Read that again – the only medium male armour that isn’t hideous (IMO) is only available to PvPers.
Yes, it’d be nice if they could make more maps, and maybe introduce more playstyles. (All they’d have to do is look back to GW1, and bring forward some of those PvP styles.) Really though, with their horrible focus on the gemstore, any updates for PvP will be incidental.
This might sound like I’m anti-pvp, which is untrue, PvP needs love – but so does PvE. We need content all around – but the content that will return the largest immediate financial return would be PvE. (This is assuming we ever see new content…)
Man, you nailed it.
I’ve come to hate PVP over the past two years because of the balance changes they’ve done to PVE because of PVP. I hope with every bit of my fiber Anet fails to the extreme in making GW2 an esport.
I have so many level 1-20 boosters and tomes of knowledge that I can instantly go to level 80 whenever I want to make a new character.
I’m in the process of collecting enough tomes of knowledge so I can bypass the NPE if I choose to make another toon (which I won’t if I have to go through the NPE).
Because of the changes made since the Angry Joe review, it is no longer relevant.
I use the 2014 Naga and Nostromo. Love ’em. Got a Blackwidow keyboard too but never use it.
Living Story season 3.
Pretty much and I’m sure it’s something esport related.
Again: if you’re saying reroll a warrior it’s extremely obvious you haven’t tried playing a warrior and therefore need to S_T-F_U because you have no idea how a warrior plays and how incredibly different it is from the Ranger.
we do have plenty of control of pets already; if your pet is dying to AOE all the time that’s on you. Often on bosses with lots of AOE, especially the sort where they make a ring around them and you have to get out of it, just step out of the AOE and call your pet back with f3 real quick. AOE damage reduction for your pet would just be way too overpowered, especially when you should be able to avoid this sort of stuff yourself. Also, is it really that hard to have to click on the passive/guard button? I imagine it’s not key-binded so that people don’t accidentally switch their pet off from passive when they’re trying to avoid mobs. Pets are fine how they are; if you don’t like them, it’s because you don’t know how to use them.
Obviously you don’t melee with your Ranger at all in dungeons and fractals.. Or H_LL, you don’t melee anywhere with your Ranger that has AOE… Else you’d be agreeing with me about the AOE. Sure, if you bearbow pew pew from 1500 units you can recall them no problem.. but then if there are red rings they are going to path right through them until the pet gets to you. It’s painfully obvious you don’t care about having more control over the pet and pewpew from far away. That’s fine.
And yes, everything should have a keybind. EVERYTHING. It’s infinitely faster for me to hit a button on my naga or nostromo than it is to click the icons on the screen. If keybinds aren’t better, why do they have keybinds on f1-f4 when you could just click them on the screen with your mouse cursor? Rhetorical: BECAUSE IT’S F_CKING FASTER WITH A KEYBIND.
Ok. That EXTEMELY lucky guildie? Yeah. He literallly just pulled Zap.
That EXTREMELY luck guildie I was talking about?
Yeah… He just pulled two Energizers and one Carcharias in 20 minutes using 250g in exotics.
He’s upto 10 precursors in a month now.
(edited by thefantasticg.3984)
Just let me put four stacks of this crap in the Mystic Toilet for RNG rewards already!
Problem solved.
I’d be down for that.
I hope there is a Dragonite Ore version soon.
Everyone in my guild who has played more than 500 hours is waiting for the one that eats Dragonite (including myself as I have already over 325 dragonite bricks sitting in the bank).
