I’m not assuming anything will be easy. But I AM assuming most people would rather go through a month worth of quests than pay 1k gold for a weapon that you need to flush to get another weapon you actually want.

Casuals (and anyone who is not an idiot or glutten for punishment) will take the path of least resistance. If farming gold is going to easier and cheaper than the precursor collections, they’ll farm gold because it’s easier and cheaper therefore faster.

Giving signets up would be terrible…

For one of the next specializations, I’d like to see a more archer/survivalist spec which ditches the pet and replaces the f1-f4 with a quiver that held different limited use charges of arrow types for different effects, and with very long cast times when emptied, like mantras. Or maybe have the f1-f4 change depending on equipped weapon so that melee rangers get utility out of it as well.

That pretty much is preps from Gw1. And if they were to do that it F1-4 wouldn’t be a quiver, it’d just be “Apply X for next # of attacks”. Which is fine by me.

3rdly: There’s no creature in the game that hits fast enough to make confusion even remotely “OP” even defined in the most perverse way possible… which is why it’s getting buffed next balance patch.

ANet’s expected earning reports for the 2015 Q3 is really the only thing that could logically be called “evidence” for a release date.

Except… It’s not Anet’s expected earning reports. It’s from an investor firm. Their guess is as good as ours.

Right, and I would trust the investment firm over kids playing on the forums. They obviously have some reason to have that prediction.

Not sure how you got that conclusion. He didn’t imply at all that all (meaning precursors that existed before HOT and the precursors that will exist after HOT) the precursors will be apart of the collections by the words you posted. By the words you posted he literally just said they’re going to be introducing new legendaries and precursors for those legendaries. He says no where in that quote about previously available precursors being available through collections.

watch pax. They were discussing that currently precursors are the hardest part in a legendary, therefore precursors will now be gotten trough the mastery system. Old ones as well.

I can’t and I can’t watch it for another week due to work related traveling internet restrictions. I only got to read a transcript of Colin Johnson’s words that someone posted on Reddit. That is why in my post you quoted I was referring specifically to the typed quote in this thread.

I must’ve missed in the transcript where Colin said that during the PAX presentation. Or was that stated as fact by another Anet employee?

But man, if they do what you think they’re going to do the Druid is DOA to me. I don’t need a zoo keeper (although some RP’ers and kids would like that). I need a Ranger that’s less AI dependant, not more. If you’re right, I’ll hope for a future expansion that includes something that is a Specialization without being dragged down by AI (that, if you have forgotten, is the same AI that’s used by every other creature in the game).

Do you think HoT will update Orr?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: thefantasticg.3984

thefantasticg.3984

They could create an intance for players who have already completed their storylines to see the Orr finally cleansed.
They will keep the same map for us all and for those who havent finish their stories yet… Orr could be a new main town or something where everything is beautiful, god-like for Arah and stuff like that..

I am strongly against an idea like this : It will cleave the player base and force you to complete the entire personnal story if you want to access the cool stuff. Are you suggesting that I have to witness Trahearne’s blandness 6 times instead of 2 ?

If they wanted to update orr, I think they’d use a system like in the silverwastes. Basically, introduce a new currency that is gained by helping the pact do something (like escorting the troops through malchor’s leap and holding the checkpoints). As you complete events a bar fills up. When it is filled up, the temples can be captured. After the temple events, the map goes in a “quiet state” where statues are disabled and chests are accessible. After some times, everything starts over.

The currency can be exchanged for crafting mat bags and keys to open orrian chests.

In the end, updating orr will be done through living world releases instead of HoT.

That actually sounds pretty awesome.

No, it’s not that it discourages “grinding” it discourages “farming”. Unless you think grinding = farming… inwhich case you’re wrong, but feel free to be wrong.

Id rather avoid more places becoming champ farm maps. So i actually prefer the no loot system. At least for open world stuff.

SW is a champ farm map. It’s just farming events for the shovels to get to the champ bags. It’s actually much much faster champ farm than any other one before it. I’ve gotten more champ bags in one hour there than I ever had at FG or QD for the same hour.

That being said, my 240%+ MF is being wasted there because mobs barely drop any loot…

Ranger Druids

in Ranger

Posted by: thefantasticg.3984

thefantasticg.3984

If its as fundamental as he’s saying, it could be an entirely new and different mechanic from what Rangers have now, and they have it only when they are druids (which means, no pets mechanic), but the problem with that was we saw the druid in the trailer with his pet, meaning that didn’t actually change. That or the new mechanic really is optional and can be switched out at any time, or its not related to our pets or our F1-F4 skills and is something different.

I’m not entirely sure how that would work if it removes pets, since pets are literally half of our profession when you count our survival, utility, and damage, and the half of our traits that only work with pets.

We are speculating on just what they meant and what the video meant… They could have even put the pets into utility skills ala GW1. We just won’t know until the demo reports are out.

Bring Back Holy Trinity

We should still have tanks, healers, and damagers because different people like the different styles. Variety is good!

Again…

Jon Peters; ArenaNet; MMO Champion Interview; 2/2012

We built this game so that the professions act as play styles, not as roles. Each profession can support, control, and do damage. We believe that this creates more dynamic combat and more distinct professions because there are more play styles than roles.

That was what was intended. It’s exactly what we have. Not 3 roles, 8 professions. Within those professions, there is a also versatility in traits and utility skills, which can be switched out from encounter to encounter.

You want to play tanks n’ healers? Wooden Potatoes has videos showing a 22K-group-healing-every-15-seconds build and a high armor, high sustain warrior build. Slot those, grab three ranged DPS and have at it. This game system gives the freedom for both that and high efficiency play. You can play trinity right now.

Yet, you want to throw away that freedom and make everyone play trinity. That’s what you’re really asking for. Why? So you can get into the PuG versions of speed runs with those builds. These complaints are essentially asking ANet to throw away one of the game’s core design features so you don’t have to type anything in the LFG and don’t have to make any effort to find the like-minded.

No, thanks.

Quoted for truth and this thread really could have been closed after this post because this post really just pointed out why these threads are made. As a matter of fact, if the Mods could just set it up a macro to auto close any thread topic that contains the words “Holy Trinity” and put this post in the end, that would be great.

Samething I’ve always wanted for two years: a way to get rid of or completely minimize the pet. Sadly, if my hopes come to pass I’ll be giving up the Ranger to do that in the process. Hopefully, if there is a Specialzation that does do exactly that whatever it is I will like better than the standard Ranger.

Depending on the new class (because it looks like a highly mobile heavy — which would be awesome and that’s something the warrior and guardian are definitely not as I have learned from spending hundreds of hours on each and why I automatically dismiss anyone who says if you don’t like Ranger roll a Warrior because they obviously are ignorant of the Warrior playstyle) and/or what Specialzation the Thief gets I may shelf my Ranger for anything other than a mystic forger.

[suggestion] A way to shake dungeon meta

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: thefantasticg.3984

thefantasticg.3984

What we periodically see on this forum (for PvE) are complaints stating :
- There is no challenging content and dungeon are especially easy.
- Some classes are useless/unwanted in dungeon.
- You can’t play how you want to play, you gotta play zerker.

1. Dungeons and fractals are no longer challenging because we’ve been running the same exact paths for over 2 years now. It gets boring and repetive and there’s only so much room for improvement. Add new dungeons and fractals and people will again fi.d challenging content.

2. Only one class has no specialised role in PvE and that is necromancer, every other class has enough utility or party support to be considered useful and wanted in dungeon runs and end game PvE. Give necro a unique party buff/mechanism that isn’t completely selfish like most of their current skills and you will start seeing them accepted in PvE.

3. No one is forcing you to use zerker if you don’t want to. It’s as simple as creating your own LFG post to find like minded individuals to play with.

Pretty sure the thread could’ve been closed after this post.

Indeed, what I saw of the Druid Specialization it will still retain the pet… but we don’t know if that was a utility skill (ala GW1) or if it retained the class mechanism of the Ranger. That’s why I’m hoping there will be (even eventually) a Specialization that doesn’t have a pet as the class mechanism. Not like they haven’t heard us about it… and an Expansion would be the perfect time to introduce a “almost secondary profession” that didn’t use a pet. For once, in a very very long time, I’m letting my hopes get up that the pet will finally go away (although I have to basically give up being a Ranger coughbeastmastercough— but that’s a fair trade IMO) if not now, then later.

I’m betting that these specializations, don’t replace anything, they only add new stuff, and that nothing is required (you wont need a staff to be a druid. You can use the new class mechanic without the other parts, etc.).

I don’t know… When Collin used words like “…almost a secondary profession” that leaves some room for speculation on what exactly will change. The way I read the transcript is that it pretty much is, for all intensive purposes, a new profession. Why else phrase it the way Collin did? That’s the marketing though, I imagine. That hype train and all that funky jazz. Either way, I’m hoping for multiple Specializations and one of those allowing me to perma-stow or trade in the pet for new F skills or something. If not, I’m hoping the new heavy class is something I’ll enjoy. From the video it looks like a highly mobile heavy class…. which is right up my alley. I just sold zap so it looks like I’ll be using those funds to make ascended zerker or sinister armor for it. Already saving Tomes and Writs of XP.
