In any game where development is ongoing, you run a risk whenever you make a decision that it will come back to bite you when things are changed. A lot of people would have done things differently if they had known this was coming. I, myself, spent 120 laurels putting the exact same ascended amulet on every one of my alts – whereas with this patch, I will only need one. Am I getting my laurels back? Nope. I know people who have 4+ ascended backpieces. Are they getting their stacks of ectos back? Nope.

If you compensate dual legendary wielders, you have to compensate everyone. We both know that’s not going to happen – it would be a logistical nightmare. The difference is, I know I paid a price to be first, and I’ve made my peace with it. People aren’t calling you selfish for making two legendaries – they’re calling you selfish for demanding that your losses be top priority fixes.

It really didn’t help garner sympathy that one of the first solutions proposed was “Give me a box of gold equal to value of legendary”. Greed, for lack of a better word, is not good in this case.

Having a think about the sources for raw coin I estimate that:

1. The amount $ to gems to gold is actually higher than most of us would anticipate
2. Although a single dynamic event reward is rather low for the individual player, in the aggregate across all players this is a major source of raw coin.

Ok, let’s try this interesting experiment -

Let’s say dual wielding legendaries required an upkeep cost. For example, there is no upkeep on the first legendary, but every day you wanted to be able to use a 2nd bolt or incinerator you would need to buy one new spark plug that expires after 24 hours of real life time. How much gold would you be willing to pay each day that you play for this spark plug?

Dusk hit the big points. Also – TP (“trading”/“Business”) is most gold because it is scalable. Farming (“labor”) is not scalable.

Some people could have save gold by getting only one and skinning the second, but this change doesn’t have any negative feedback by itself. Some people’s ego is getting hurt, but that’s because of their pessimist perception of things.

This isn’t a question of ego for a lot of players. This isn’t a comparison to how other people have it easier, or really any comparison to the rest of the player base. Nor is it an economic thing. The situation is plain and personal: some made a 2nd skin, at great cost, and then Arenanet gave it to us for free at a later date. I thank them for that, as it was the goal all along, but it leaves us with a great deal of wasted time and effort to reflect on.

It is a game. Eventually you will quit or the servers will shut down and at that point every second of time spent becomes “wasted” (sunk). Enjoy the ride. Anyone who made two still has them and can (should) be able to enjoy the game just as much as if this change never happened.

thehipone gets it. Bravo sir, bravo.

Saying “well if I had the power of seeing the future, I wouldn’t have done it” does not grant you the right to compensation. I bought a car on payments when I had job “x”. Shortly after, my boss sold out and now I have job “y” at a lower pay. Can’t take the car back because life happened. I obviously wanted it when I bought it, now I have to live with the payments. That a good enough analogy for you?

Sorry, I’ve re-read the analogy several times but it still makes absolutely no sense to me in this particular context. Who sold out? What payments? Are we talking about duplicate legendaries at all?

My point stands. They made something. They still have exactly that something. Not one thing is being taken from them. For what exactly should they be compensated?

Oh hey, I made Sunrise a few months back and if I had known that 6 months later this was gonna happen I never would have sold it for 2000 gold. I want my legendary back, cuz I feel cheated. Does NO ONE see the irony here?? Seriously???

You made the 2nd legendary by your own choice. You still have it. There is nothing to complain about.

A mad scientist patented a revolutionary zero-dollar way to clone personal dinosaurs with 2 million dollar fee per dinosaur.

Person A had 4 million dollars. Person B had 4 million dollars.

Person A bought 2 personal dinosaurs. Person B bought 1 personal dinosaur.

A week later, the mad scientist decided that the restriction is per person and not per dinosaur.

Now Person A has 2 personal dinosaurs and 0 dollars in his pocket. Person B has 2 personal dinosaurs and 2 million dollars in his pocket.

So, how is this “exactly the same”?

Simple, Person A and person B are the same in that they each voluntarily entered into the transaction at the time under the original terms.

And how does it mean that they “still have the exact something” at the moment? It may look so to a housewife, but not to someone who heard about opportunity cost.

Oh hey, I made Sunrise a few months back and if I had known that 6 months later this was gonna happen I never would have sold it for 2000 gold. I want my legendary back, cuz I feel cheated. Does NO ONE see the irony here?? Seriously???

By the way, what sense does it make? If you wanted to unlock the skin, you would have needed to solebind it.

I’m no housewife, I understand opportunity cost. The funny thing is, in arguing for compensation it is clear that you are the one who does not understand opportunity cost. By crafting that duplicate you gave up the ability to have either the gold or a different legendary. AT THE TIME of crafting you made the decision that the benefits of the duplicate outweighed any other possible uses of the gold, including any future (and now expected) ability to purchase dual-wield legendary skin for effectively half the old price. What happens after the original decision is completely irrelevant. If you are going to link economic-based arguments you can surely understand this. What the refund crowd wants is the ability to retroactively change rationally made economic decisions.

And all of the uproar is not because of an actual loss of an item but because a perceived loss of value because “someone else can get the same thing half-off”. In that case, the compensation should be pro-rated based on how long someone has had the duplicate legendary because between the time of crafting and now they did receive the benefits of “prestige” that caused them to craft the duplicate in the first place. I am not seriously advocating this, but merely providing an example of how ridiculous this whole thing is.

All I see in this thread are people whining and wanting to cash in. None of you has a valid argument. You obviously thought it was worth making two items exactly the same. You still have them. Nothing has changed except now you can use it MORE. Oh noooooeeeeesss!!!! Pu-lease. I feel the salivation dripping from those just waiting for all their legendaries to get unbound so they can make a killing by selling them.

You are losing nothing. The change costs you nothing. Your argument is invalid in every way.

Don’t make posts like this. It contributes nothing and if you start a flame war the thread will be closed.

I’m fine with that. People in the forums seem to always want COMPENSATION for some unreasonable, wholly made-up ANet infraction on their ever-so-precious time and effort.

My point stands. They made something. They still have exactly that something. Not one thing is being taken from them. For what exactly should they be compensated?

They want compensation because someone else will have something that they have. The enjoyment is not derived from the items themselves, but from other people NOT having the items. This is the core of the issue in this thread. Others have tried to point it out by mentioning that the original owners of 2x are not losing anything, but you can see how that went.

What don’t people understand about making their own parties with their friends or guildies?
Or even making a “LFG anyone allowed, come have fun!”

What’s hard about this?

Problem is, the heavy zerk only mentality has become so prevalent that people will join a “anyone/fun” group and then try to impose their will on the rest of the group or just be a general kitten. Example – had a war join my CoF group ad “p1 chilled out run” and from the immediate get go throughout the whole run was whispering me asking about my gear (I was necro dagger/wh berserkers, except for 2 knights earrings). “What your build?” “What armor stats?” You should have zerk weapon. You have?" What runes? CONSTANTLY. Even though we ripped right through the dungeon with some random mix of classes. Never gave him the satisfaction of pinging.

If the speedclear crowd is going to crow on about others not reading ads/joining the wrong group, then the same corollary applies. Don’t join the relaxed runs and get kitten-y because the run takes a minute longer or someone runs an oddball build.

So all of this QQ is from people who bought 2x something expensive and “exclusive” (lol) and are now mad because other people can get the same thing at a cheaper price a year later?

This is how the world works. Anyone who made a duplicate weapon made an economic decision at the time of crafting that the price was acceptable. Just because a year later a new legendary has an extra feature does not mean that you should get your original, rationally-made purchase back.

Go ask apple or samsung for a refund because that “cool” phone that you waited in line for a year ago is now cheaper and everybody has it. Let me know how it works.

I think that this is the closest thing that we’ve had to a futures market and I’m genuinely interested in seeing how it pans out. That is, in buying a duplicate dye and unlocking it now, you are effectively buying an unid dye for april delivery when the patch hits.

My bear case on these rests on the risk inherent in assuming that the unids received as compensation will be sellable/non-account bound. If you like dyes and want a bunch, sure, this duplication method may be a way to get your hands on unids to help round out your collection. However, I feel like a lot of people are going to find themselves with a bunch of more or less unwanted and account bound unid dyes. Sure you can open them and sell the individual colors to recoup some of your loss, but so will everbody else You probably won’t be the guy who pulls an abyss.

Although it is still better than being the unfortunate futures speculator who finds himself suddenly stuck with a million eggs

Happy trading.

OP asking to stop complaining is like a slap in the face. I demand compensation, including an in-game megaphone so I can complain louder. I made 6 legendaries for each of my toons, 48 total legendaries and some of them are duplicates. With new system, I wouldn’t have made them and would have more than only 25k gold right now. [/sarc off]

I don’t actually have 48 legendaries, why does everyone feel the need to include this info when posting?

The right way to do it will be to give an Account Bound dye of the Same Rarity as whatever the duplicate is. 2 Abyss? you get an account bound, guaranteed other rare dye. 2 cornsilk? you get another common.

My opinion – people speculating heavily today are going to get burned bad by this dye change in the end.

Need help Locating Rich Iron and Plat.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Poor Snowden Drifts, not even on the linked maps from Astral.

There’s one permanent rich iron in snowden drifts in the polar bear cave in Reaver’s dale. (directly north of the R in reaver’s when you look at the map. There is also a movable rich iron that sometimes shows up in one of the following locations:
-Near the bridge next to/just west of the Jotun’s Vista label on the map.
-In the little icebrood camp in the middle of the road north of the Jotun’s Vista label
-In Molengrad in the SW part of the map.
there may be more possibilities.

If you find a server with the rich iron by the bridge or icebrood camp it can be a very fast run start at Reaver’s waypoint and head north/NW. Lots of regular iron and soft wood nodes on the way. However, because the nodes move with every update you do need to put in a bit of work to find them. Start helping yourself by making notes of where the rich nodes show up while exploring so you know where to check when they move.

thehipone.6812

-If you have excess skillpoints (+200), and your legendary requires lodestones, I suggest considering promoting cores. Of course, do a quick calculation to see how much you are saving.

good call. I have the current numbers for those here:
(this compares the sell listing price of cores to the sell listing price of lodestones)
Crystal = -14s45c (lodestone sells for 14s45c less than cores = not profitable)
Destroyer = 10s70c (lodestone sells for 10s70c more than cores = profitable)
Corrupted = 11s44c
Charged = 39s77c
Onyx = 19s47c
Molten = 12s45c
Glacial = -27s75c (another negative)
I usually consider 1 SP = 20s. each of these promotions requiers 0.6 SP, so anything above 12s I would do.
These don’t change very much very often, but If you want an updated list, PM me.

There is a nice spreadsheet that taps into spidy to get the core & lodestone price data to tell you all of the core promotion returns in terms of silver per skill point. Linked on this page:

Also, people are reporting after the No Condition phase there is a phase that needs heavy conditions.

That doesn’t fix the problem of “Condition players are forced to afk or respec.”

It’s a straight up slap to the face.

But if there is a phase that needs heavy conditions, it’s unfair to Berserker players as they need to respec too.

No, the equivalent would be if direct damage was reflected in phase II. I can just imagine the forums then…

thehipone.6812

You get undercut because people do exactly what you did – go to one of the sites, look for the highest profit item and then make it without considering the market. Ask yourself – “why would someone buy this?”/“why would someone not buy this?” A few people obviously buy them, but why would someone spend over 1g on a non-BiS amulet when an exotic isn’t that much more? Or ascended for laurels/badges? Big spreads usually mean a slow moving market, otherwise people would rush in and collapse the spread.

If you want to actually make money you need to figure out what people actually buy and/or why they buy things. You also need to figure out the best way to source your materials, this is not always just “click buy” or place a buy order.

Your best bet is probably to go to BestBuy or a similar electronics store and just put your hands on different models. You can go nuts with reading reviews, “min/maxing” how you perceive the different features, worrying about the macros, etc., but finding a model that fits your hand in terms of size, contours, material feel/tackiness and button placement is more imporant IMO. 40 buttons on a mouse may seem great, but are no good if you have a very big or small hand and have to contort yourself to reach them.

I ended up with a Roccat Kone if it matters.

yeah, that’s one of the prime spots. I think the southsun farms have been pretty well known for a while. With a necro, any hostile that stacks conditions on you just accelerates your kill rate. If you do go for the sharks, don’t forget to grab the chest on the shipwreck guarded by the two vet sharks (and one very crabby hermit crab).

Underwater, condition bomb epidemic necromancer anywhere there is a decent density of lvl 80 mobs.

Underwater simply because of the 3-d nature of mob density – you can hit anything within a 1200 unit sphere whereas on land it is a 1200 unit circle. I’ve run a bunch half hour trials (timed by the lotus fry food timer) in various places and it is typically 400-500 kills/hour in a good spot. Average is 21.2 t6 mats/hour plus about 3.5gold worth of t5 mats, weapons, unid dyes, etc. so it is in the 9-12 gold/hour range which is consistent with most of the other top farms. Makes sense that t6 materials are priced the way they are.

To ppl that asked for vertical progression...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: thehipone.6812

thehipone.6812

I believe GW2 could have survived with horizontal progression added, similar to how it was in GW1. We will never know now, because it’s too late to take it away.

P l e a s e s t o p saying that GW1 had no vertical progression, it’s like you didn’t even play the game. Like I said in my earlier posts in many posts before that in other threads. There was a vertikal progression in the game, getting Best in Slot gear at release forced you to grind.
Getting max armor and max weapons was easy but putting those max upgrades and max runes on them was expensive as hell. I personally never bothered to buy a superior rune of health up until NF was released an all those prices went downhill really fast.
After the release of Factions they started to add factiontitles (kurzick, luxon, later with NF: lightbringer, sunspear and with g:wen: deldrimor, asura, ebonblade and slayer). Reaching the maximum title on any of those factions did involve lots of grinding and they did improve PvE skills (skills that were just usable in PvE and im comparision to the GW2 PvE exclusive heal skill, actually pretty strong) so you can’t say “they didn’t matter anyway”. GW1 was grindy, GW2 is grindy. Get used to it, any orpg involves some kind of grinding.

Those faction specific skills maxed out effectiveness about halfway to the max rank. Sure you could grind for the TITLE, but in order to have max effectiveness for, say Asura skills you could get max effectiveness by playing through the EotN quests ONCE and turning in the storybook. Maxing the lux/kurz skills required you to get only 12% of the faction for max rank. Lightbringer is the only one that kept scaling, but still ONE run through of missions and vanquishing would easily get you to lvl 7 out of 8.

The weapons and armor never got stronger or made your perfect weapons less-than-perfect . Period.
Many of us liked it that way.

Gold Inflation Research

thehipone.6812

About the term inflation: I am not an economist :S I have studied computer science. So I am pretty sure I do stuff pretty wrong. As you guys have noted, apparently I have no idea what the word “inflation” means
I basically just try to be logical. But if you guys could correct me and tell me what exactly I have measured I would love to learn more.
Especially if this could maybe used as a reference for annoying economy discussions, so I would prefer if my source is as correct and as understandable as possible.

I would also have no problem to add another section or change my texts with credits if somebody else wants to describe it better.

Bah, a couple things you learn on the internet is that everyone fancies themselves as an expert economist (ex. “your definition is wrong” but won’t give you the right one), computer programmer and statistician (ex. “your data sucks. everyone knows you must do a million trials to get data or else just RNG”) even if they are not. Cue the “but I have X degree posts”. I’m not. From a “consumer perspective” I’d argue that the basket of goods/price index method that you used provides the most useful measure of inflation experienced by players and is in accordance with government methods of reporting inflation
Even the wikipedia page suggests "However, most economists today use the term “inflation” to refer to a rise in the price level." Don’t get down on yourself or hung up on the pedantic posts.

Good work. Interesting. Useful.
Thanks.

Might actually make confusion a decent way of busting up a zergball. And it makes sense – if you’re confused and swinging wildly you might just happen to damage your allies.

I’ve been running almost this exact build except with mostly exotic settler gear (because I have found about 4 complete sets of the trinkets and wanted to use them, plus I’m a Charr so Leftpaw’s Pistol and Shield just fit thematically) and undead runes for a little more con dmg. Damage is meh, but it is super durable. I leave bomb and tool kit (gear shield block is strong and magnet is lulz) stapled to the bar and switch between elixir gun and rocket boots and occasionally grenades as the situation dictates. Something like this build
With the heals and CC it acts as a force multiplier and really shines in lord rooms when everyone is bunched up. In more open fights, there is nothing better than spotting a few injured allies pulling back until you drop the heal turret & water field blast and then they charge back in there.

This should really be implemented. They already have it on the discovery pane. for instance if you need 3 Bowls of candy corn glaze for a recipe that you have not yet discovered and only have 1 bowl in your inventory you just click a little + sign and it makes more without having to leave the discovery tab.

Yes to original suggestion.
Especially WvW.

Commander asks: “Water on rams”
Me: Checks the ground to find a spot with no existing field. Drops healing turret —> overcharge —> 3x blast finish. Area Weakness Area Weakness Area Weakness because someone’s pet spider is pvdooring or some dopey thief used shortbow 4 on the gate and got the field down half a second before I popped the turret.
Facepalm.

Reward to time is completely out of whack for virtually all of the DEs that I come across. The “fun” factor is rarely enough to overcome the lack of reward.

NPC says: Stand here in this village for 6 minutes and defend against waves containing 3 risen thralls that spawn once each minute. I will reward you with a princely sum of one silver and couple hundred karma!
Um, no thanks.

Exactly the opposite of OP – these types of AI enemies need to make their way out into dungeons and other areas. They are more difficult without being hp sponge punching bags. Might actually make gear choice relevant and diminish “go zerk or go home”.

The flippers, meh, who cares. Those people (bots) putting in the millions of buy orders @1 c deserve a ban hammer. At a minimum, they chew up resources and slow down the tp for legitimate users.

Example (click back to monthly view) clipper focus skin
goes from 374 orders to 2.8 million?!?
