Transmutation Charges Crisis

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

They’re available for gems if you feel like changing skins at a faster rate than you gain charges. You can exchange gold for gems.

I stated that I cannot purchase Charges for the following two reasons:
- Gold is being used to update most of my character’s gear and builds.
- Gold is being saved in order for me to purchase the Deluxe Upgrade for the expansion.

And to answer the user above yours, I do not have any free slots at the moment, and cannot afford to delete any.

TBH sounds more like a case of having to stick to a budget and your choice to prioritize other things rather than any sort of crisis with the transmutation charge system itself. There are plenty of free options, and all take time to get- time that could also be used to farm “extra” (i.e. on top of what you want for the other stuff) gold to buy charges. Depends on your WvW rank and server performance, but it may just be faster to farm gold —> buy gems —> by charges direct once you get past the wood or bronze WvW tiers. Also, 25 charges cost $7.50, so RL job farming is still way faster.

And as the Stones say: "You can’t always get what you want, But if you try sometimes well you just might find, You get what you need "

How about Revenant/Herald for her and an aura-share ele for you?

With roiling mists and sigil of accuracy you can get her to 50% crit chance to run valkyrie gear for more vit. No complicated rotations to learn and the utilities can be used as “set and forget” as she learns Shield 5 plus the glint heal are her “oh crap” buttons.

Worst Guild Wars 2 Map?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: thehipone.6812

1. Lake Doric is quite bad. Bad scaling, the sheer idiocy of the “leather farm”. Further, mobs don’t drop unbound magic and there is no karmic retribution to save it even a little bit like other LS maps.
2. Straits of Devastation – I really want to like this map, and remember liking it at the beginning of the game, but contested WPs and neglected underwater stuff are rather annoying now. And screw that lab puzzle/minidungeon with the hands and exploding fish.
3. Dragon’s Stand – complete waste of a map 95% of the time

Among the rest, there is usually only some minor gripes.

Its still 60 tokens per path, xp has been heavily nerfed for spirit shards, and gold is laughable. Cant say that’s more profitable. Exception being Aetherpath perhaps

No, it is 100 tokens per path the first time each day. Those extra 40 tokens are worth 20 -30 silver if converted through the simplest buy & salvage into ecto/inscriptions method https://gw2efficiency.com/currencies/dungeon-tokens
8 runs would previously get you 480 tokens, now you get 950 (800 +150 from the box) + 5 gold directly.

Dungeons are still rewarding, only difference is that you can’t spam the same path over and over and over.

You could conceivably use gw2tp.com as a guide, use buy orders for insignias, stick to the stuff that is profitable. Just need to be careful and look at sales price history so you don’t get deceived by a temporary price pop and have your stuff stuck on the TP forever. My guess is that the guy who made a huge “profit” is of the mindset that materials that you farmed yourself are “free”.

Great change. These are basically time-based achieves, i.e. did you sink enough time into the maps to get the wins with matchmaking aiming for approx. 50-50 W/L.

The idea that there is some lost “value” or “prestige” is pretty laughable. You still need to actually play and win on the maps the exact same number of times. Good job ANet in making it so those people with jobs or families can still make progress without having to nolife grind over a limited number of days.

"Scourge" feature wishlist

in Necromancer

Posted by: thehipone.6812

thehipone.6812

Going by the name, I’d lean towards something that relies on some blend of area denial, melee hate, boon removal and condi transfer to punish opponents who stay too close and locked on. That is, although the necro may not have invuln and blocks, if the opponent wants to dish out punishment to the necro in scourge shroud, they’re gonna get hurt badly themselves.

No idea for torch 4 at the moment

Torch #5 – Flames of the Aggressor – fire field that pulses damage/burning. Steals life from enemies that are attacking (a la Blood of the Aggressor)
One trait idea would be to change it so that enemies that you fear are taunted instead to be able to trigger the “while attacking” clauses.

Taking a bit of inspiration from GW1 dervish skills, trying to keep skills more or less in line with current shroud structures:

Shroud Skill 1 – three part melee attack – Grenth’s Grasp/Aura slicer/[some name] – first transfers one condition, second rips a boon, third just a semi-hard hit.

Skill 2 – Whirling charge – gap closer that applies cripple, whirl finisher

Skill 3 – Harrier’s Grasp – Pull target foe, if foe was moving apply 2 seconds of taunt

Skill 4 – Mystic Sandstorm -Pulses damage and bleeds, double damage/bleed if target is attacking

Skill 5 – Sand Shards – wind-up attack that applies immobilize and an effect to necro that deals damage to nearby foes the next X times that you are struck. (i.e. you’re fighting a war in melee you can lock him down and a ranger pewpewing away at you would actually hurt his teammate too)

Kinda designed to really hurt trap DH via NCSY! unblockable attacks and boon —> vuln. Knight’s amulet probably isn’t too popular, but with deadly strength you can get power equal to the quad-stat amulets.

LMFAO, typical economist stuff. “Reality does not agree with what our models tell us should be happening, therefore there is definitely an error in reality.”

People keep stuff because there are tons of people who view anything gathered or dropped as “free”. It may be “wrong”, but it is how they behave.

People also keep stuff because there has been a history of introducing new items/sinks that require stoopid amounts of stuff that was formerly worthless. Sometimes the new items required mats that were worth some coin to begin with and the price of those mats shot up. Therefore, if you sell now and something new comes in that you want, you lose big by having to buy back those mats you sold at a much higher price.

In general – Like the new map. Feels like a really fun “just play/farm” map. Good mob density, a mix of creature types (and potential drops), daily hearts give a soft push to move around the whole island, a few decent gathering spots to mix it up.

Some events could be tuned a bit. Sloth chain is biggest offender. Water running to the plant isn’t really fun and takes too many buckets. Escort seems fine, but queen dies super fast.

Ember Bay completion?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

thehipone.6812

What was the point of resetting hearts ?

A repeatable gold/karma source. Plus, it allows said karma vendors to have a once-a-day item to sell to players (the 3 petrified woods).

I hate to sound harsh to the OP, but you’re going to have to let your OCD completionist writhe in agony. Short of the hearts changing colour after finally completing the map, I don’t think there’s a good strategy to fix your itchy trigger finger. The fire islands are in a corner of the map, anyway. Just don’t look there.

The problem here of course is that for someone like me who has a lot of alts if the 100% keeps on dropping each day it may be hard to keep track of/remember which of my alts have done this map fully and received the map reward.

They need SOMETHING there on the map UI to give us this info. Either keep the % at 100% if you have done it once and got the reward or have a message saying something like “map complete rewarded”.

This map while still new needs a fair bit of polish and this is just 1 example of that.

There is a new app that lets you keep track of all sorts of things, in game and out.

Precursors and Time Gated Crafting

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: thehipone.6812

thehipone.6812

Increasing the amount of ascended materials that players could refine would tank the market.

Is that really a good reason not to do it though? Do you think your average player cares about “the market”? And lets not kid ourselves they will still be quite valuable.

One of the reasons that they were timegated was so that crafters could make a profit. Increase the amount that can be crafted would cause the profit margin to go down possibly to the point where there is no difference between crafting and buying other than the tax. There are a lot of players that craft these daily to make gold.

Methinks the real designed reasons are:
1) Another thing to make people feel compelled to log in each day
2) To prevent the 8-hours-of-play-a-day crew from getting everything on day 1

any crafting profit is probably more a side effect of people willing to pay to circumvent annoyance than a designed intent. Profitable crafting does not seem to be high on the radar.

A much more player-friendly solution would be a weekly reset where you can craft 7 of each gated mat each week, but could do all on one day if you wanted.

Depends on how many characters you have and how many times you can tolerate doing Buried Insight, but you can get all of the 1-handed weapons except the warhorn from redoing the story on different characters. I think you can get two more weapons (pick 2-handers) from achievements and the pvp track. If you do this, you take care of the equivalent of 37 out of the 60 eggs that you will need.

If you do go the repeat-the-story route, it will also put a big dent in the auric weapon collection too.

1. Buy all 16 Balthazar weapon skins from BLTC
(with current prices that ~400g with buy orders)
2. Use them and you will get 7 BL tickets reward. That is ~57g per ticket.
3. Either save them for some future collection, grab something you really like or get some older skins and sell them to cover Balthazar collection cost.
(For example Dominator staff skin worth 2 tickets and sells for ~150g)

#1
sellers never sell to the buy order prices, EVER

i personally been chasing after some ley line weapons, and making sure i was the highest buy order in these, after 3 weeks i haven’t gotten a single weapon. It’s kind of frustrating.

Maybe for the old skins that are 3 or 5 tickets each, where most of the supply is held by “investors” or old players and none are really being generated.

However, the Balthazar ones are still being generated by people opening BL chests. Plenty of people don’t want the skin and will dump to a buy order.

Gold find?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: thehipone.6812

thehipone.6812

Yah it does add up over time, but the amount you get per kill is small and then it’s a percent of that. The guy above killed 200 inquest to get maybe 17 silver and I suspect he has high gold find to get that much, most people have only a few % gold find.

I feel it’s too easy to dismiss some of the smaller means by which we generate income. I remember recently watching a youtube vid of someone opening a mass of black-lion chests… He, of course, checked the prices of the stuff he got to the AH, and I distinctly remember him dismissively saying, “oh, that’s only a gold, oh well.” In my mind I was screaming, “that’s WORTH a gold!”

I also don’t know the means by which the guy above tracked his income/kills…. and, did he take into account the diminishing returns that occurs when an area is farmed? This is the big factor that makes me skeptical of his test. Had he roamed the entire map instead, I’d be more inclined to accept his results – even hyenas and drakes drop silver.

I’ve got nothing less anecdotal, but my experiences are the opposite; I think if I’m focused on killing mobs I get more than 17s/200 kills… but that’s just speculation. Perhaps in the near future I ought to do my own little experiment to verify/disprove my current view and rationale for the 20% gold find infusion.

So many things on the “to do” list, lol.

edit:

MF boost, if killing a lot of loot-bearing foes (Orrian temples, HoT non-meta, karka farm, …). I’d rather receive one more exotic per month than the half the equivalent in extra gold; it’s just more fun to see ‘better’ drops.

The thing is you never know what items or how many items you got from that drop are due to your MF infusion… where as every time coin is dropped by a mob, you can calculate how much more you got due to your GF infusion, than you would have. I don’t have RNG trust issues like some people have (and posted about), but given the choice I prefer to see definitive evidence that my infusion choice had an effect on the outcome of my gameplay.

~EW

(sorry for all the edits, it’s just my habit that I’m never completely happy with what I type)

I didn’t set out to test for gold find, I was evaluating the area as a potential farm spot and the gold find data was secondary to recording how many t6 mats, bags, etc. DR is not likely an issue – 3 runs were on Necro, 2 on Ranger, different days, all separated by “go somewhere else and do something else” (No way I could have tolerated 2.5 hours of this in one shot). The effects of DR in general are way overstated by forumites (except for the old event reduced karma/XP DR that would kick in too fast in SW).
If you start at the top of the ramp, there’s a good number of inquest in their base, so you don’t kill the same ones that often. I don’t claim it to be hard, statistical data, but it is order of magnitude estimate.

As far as the gilded infusion vs. damage – if you’re farming ,the time running between mobs is a good portion of the time and +5% damage will not directly translate into 5% more kills/hr. That said, gilded is also not my utility infusion of choice.

Gold find?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: thehipone.6812

“Increases the amount of gold gained from killing enemies.”

I wasn’t aware that enemies drop any gold in this game. Most of the gold comes from static bonuses, like daily achievement gold reward, dungeon and event rewards and so on. Those are not affected by gold find in any way. Is this another “legacy” feature that was once thought to be part of game but never really implemented?

They drop coin. Not a gold at a time, but often a silver or two. Look in the loot corner of the screen and you’ll see it show up. I tracked it at one point – did five trials of about 200 kills of Inquest in their cave in dry top. Got 15 to 22 silver each time, avg. 17.5. Don’t know what boost my gold find was, but it does seem to work – I recall seeing 3 silver+ drops when stacked up.

Lets not even start on the Hydra from Crystal Desert…

God, the hydra. Ugh.

I’d love to see an epic fight between GW1 dinos and GW2 saurians, as long as I can watch from a safe distance and not be murdered in the face by them.

Wasn’t there a boss T-Rex in the Charr homelands? I vaguely remember something massively unpleasant there in hard mode and it being large and dino shaped…

There were those Armored Sauruses that had the same model and move set as the triceratopses in Sparkfly. Might be what you are thinking of.

Lack of valuable loot

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: thehipone.6812

thehipone.6812

It is my hypothesis that nearly all of the demand for exotic weapons is to flush in the forge and the demand for the skins is relatively low, save a few exceptions like Crystal Guardian or Cobalt, so this wouldn’t tank the exotic market.

I can’t help being a little skeptical of that. Just to use your example, Al’ir’aska sells for about 3g, while there are about 25 other exotic spears that sell for 2g or less, some of which are named and some of which are “Rampager’s Iron Spear of Perception.” Prices will go up and down, but I wouldn’t underestimate the value of the skin itself. If people were just buying it to forge it, they’d probably go with something cheaper, so the number of skins whose prices are being affected by their forgeability seems pretty low. (~7 named Spears under 2g)

Um, your observation is in line with what I said – 7 out of 8 of the named (skinned spears) are at the same price as the pearl weapons and have no real value outside of forging. I chose the VS because it was a (THE?) popular GW1 skin and would be something that you might actually be excited to get as a skin drop. If you look at swords and exclude Twin sisters and crystalline blade, which are priced based on the sigil, the dropped named swords are all roughly the same price as the pearl ones. Hammers, greatswords, rifles, etc. the named weapons are all mixed in with pearl/generic skins.

There is a middle ground with account binding and the wardrobe. Posted this a year ago ( https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/archive/bltc/Week-3-Collecting-and-Trading/first#post4292672 )

Now that we have the wardrobe though, it would be nice if there was a way to collect/acquire the various “named” skins in a path that is not grind/buy gold —> buy off of TP. Let’s say I want the skin of Al’ir’aska because voltaic spears are awesome. The chances of me actually looting it are, for practical purposes, zero. Exotic drops are infrequent enough, plus needing to be a specific weapon, then a specific skin. Sure, I could try to forge for it, but then I need to acquire a pile of exotic spears and if I need to buy them to toss into the forge, I might as well just buy the one I want.

I’d take skin unlocks as drops, separated from the actual weapon. i.e. Al’ir’aska the exotic spear still drops with the usual frequency and can be salvaged, forged, used, etc. However there could also be more frequent account bound drops of skin unlocks that are sort of like recipe sheets – double click to unlock the skin in the wardrobe and that’s it. Heck, group them by region so I know where to target if I want a specific one. Can’t forge, salvage and you actually need another spear to transmute it onto. It is my hypothesis that nearly all of the demand for exotic weapons is to flush in the forge and the demand for the skins is relatively low, save a few exceptions like Crystal Guardian or Cobalt, so this wouldn’t tank the exotic market. Might actually goose sales of trans charges too.

Anything to make loot more interesting. I can remember exactly two exciting drops in my 2k hours – Dawn and Jormag’s Breath. Anything else was only exciting because it could be sold for a decent chunk of gold.

If you have unlimited gliding you can get it during the day. You can launch into the canopy from ordnance corps and glide over to patriarch’s perch. You get the poi from one of the little caves inside the rocks at the perch. Hard to explain w/o video, but near the highest daytime updraft by perch there is a vine with one cave above and one cave just lower. you need to glide onto the vine and jump up the vine into the higher cave. You’ll get the poi in the center of the cave.

Legendary weapons

Obviously I go into this knowing that some players will be very upset. That’s why it’s such a tough decision.

Ankdarkwolf, Darkmikau, Ballads, Spira, Caerbannog, Cysgod, you each posted a variant of an accusation I’ve seen many times over the past few months on the forums, something along the lines of, “AN shipped half an expansion with HoT.” I take issue with that. We shipped a new region full of content, a new mastery system, gliding, guild halls, a new profession, nine new elite specializations for existing professions, and more. Then we shipped precursor journeys for existing legendaries, and said, “We’ve been working hard on new legendary weapons, the first handful of which will be introduced in Heart of Thorns, with more to come in subsequent updates.” While I fully get that you’re disappointed today, this is not about us shipping half an expansion pack.

Wow, the disdain for customers who provided feedback is rather shocking. Every company that I buy something from basically begs and hounds me to fill out surveys telling them what I thought of the product, presumably to improve customer satisfaction with the product. Can you seriously imagine telling a candy bar company, for example, “the candy bar tasted funny and the package was way too small for the price” and having them come back with: “I take issue with that, it tastes fine and is big enough”.

I run my own company and understanding your customers is crucial. I can’t imagine just brushing aside (or arguing with!) repeated feedback that said my customers did not think that they got acceptable value from me. One criticism that has been leveled repeatedly is that development of the game was occurring in an echo chamber within Anet. No, you don’t have to listen to every suggestion, but you darned well better understand why they buy/play. The unmitigated disaster that is the current state of WvW BLs shows what happens when you don’t understand why people play WvW.

The move to not deliver an advertised feature of a product is deceptive advertising. I know the Europeans take consumer protection laws rather seriously and I’m sure the FTC will be notified by a few folks too. This might not turn out to be the cost saving measure as expected.

There should be roads with few mobs, but perhaps not the straightest line from point A to B.

Off the roads, in the woods or swamp, increase density a bit.

Count me as another one in the pinball (Twilight Zone powerball OP!) to GW path. All time favorite game is still Dragon Warrior for NES. (You didn’t have to grind the axe knight for Hauksness tokens to buy Erdrick’s armor…but I digress) . There are piles of “real” MMOs with all the raiding, scheduling your life around being online at the right time, etc. and I have no interest in any of them. Never even considered them and probably never will.

Btw, I am downloading D3 as I post here, lots of positive feedbacks on that game after the developers listened and acted on gameplay improvements.

I stopped playing GW2 for about two years and came back to play for about a month now. Yep, nothing has changed (enjoyment wise) only more nerfs, especially visual nerfs on skills :/

Yeah, it’s improved dramatically and Reaper of Souls just smashed it. Extremely impressed with Blizzard for managing to turn that game around after an epic failure at launch.

Blizzard learned one big thing that has yet to sink in around GW2 headquarters -

It is simply not fun when the primary means to acquire something in game is to grind currency and buy.

Just had to quit after doing the entire thing and getting the pillsbury dragon boy to 25% because the into the air launcher on the very last flight segment didnt shoot me up. Died and ended up locked in the penalty box with no way to re-enter or advance.
