Arena-net logic, nerf everything!
Hey Arena-net you do know that when it comes to balance your supposed to…you know…nerf AND buff stuff? I mean I think the sword nerfs were a little harsh but then you just dump salt in the wound by not addressing any of the issues with Ventari and Jalis or even look into fixing Mallyx up ever since you gutted him
Hey look the patch is out and guess what? NO CHANGES TO JALIS OR VENTARI LOL
Not happy at all, all nerfs and no addressing the issues with Ventari and to a lesser extent, Jalis…thanks arenanet! You know for all your talk of “encouraging different playstyles” you sure are trying to push people in the direction of Shiro and Mallyx, I mean I don’t think Jalis is as terrible as everyone says but you just keep on nerfing his playstyle…and don’t get me started on Ventari, he’s a useless pacifist
(edited by thewaterguy.4796)
Great…Personally I still use Jalis and I really like his playstyle but some of his skills could really use some reworking, and by that I mean buff them up to be not kitten….and of course they nerfed unwavering avoidance because how dare revenant have something gasp kind of powerful
I don’t run ventari for the same reason, he kittening sucks, arena-net need to massively buff him up if they want support revenants to actually count for something
Hmmm…thats a tough question, first off I don’t main either BUT I have played both for significant amounts of time
Guardian:
Pros: Easier to learn then necromancer I would say, decent sustainability (doesn’t die alot), decent damage and access to quite the variety of weapons, can definitely play around alot with Guardian, very much a class that is very good at simultaneously dealing damage and pumping out support at the same time, you can kind of build to lean towards either playstyle as well
Cons: they can get a bit…rotationesque, what I mean by that is you almost set up an optimal “rhythm” of skills that provide the best damage for a particular situation, as a result it can be a bit samey after awhile
Necromancer:
Pros: necromancers are very hard to kill, their deathshroud ability acts as a second health bar which is just insanely fun to play around with, they also get access to alot of unique flavor skills through said deathshroud and later on, their elites and utilities
Cons: Necromancer is…complicated, if you compare them to guardians they are more difficult to learn which could be a bit of a barrier, their weapons can also be a little bit situational, guardians tend to be a bit more flexible in what weapons you can use with what build, Necromancer is still pretty lenient but less so
Hope that helps!
There was a time GW2 was Casual Friendly
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: thewaterguy.4796
Hoo boy just…
First of all GW2 has not “abandoned its casual players” play Verdant Brink or Dragons Stand or Auric Basin, those maps are not very difficult to get into, second since when was the game “only for casuals” casual players love to whine about the “elitism” that they face, and while I do agree their is a degree of that, it doesn’t give casual players the right to turn around and complain about “those loser no-life hardcore players are ruining our game!” frankly I am very happy with HoT’s map design, make more maps with metas that are not necessarily difficult but are interesting and fun to play, “I don’t like raids” then don’t play them, the hardcore content was not created for you, and before you pull a “well your just biased” I can’t run raids because I don’t have 9 other players to join with, do I care? I do care to an extent but I’m not going to make silly demands, the game is in a great space as it is and I would rather not see it ruined because of a bunch of more casual players cried about how a video game dared to gasp offer them a challenge or an MMO expected a little bit of their time
Now with all that said I am not completely deaf to some concerns of more casual players, the elite specializations I don’t get the issue, the HP aren’t too hard to get and if you ask in map chat for a hand most players (me included) would probably be willing to lend you one, BUT when it comes to raiding content, while I acknowledge fully its not for me, I still do somewhat sympathize with the issue of the raiding gate, it really stings when raids are so interesting and fun and well designed with a super intriguing storyline (one that is much better than ANYTHING in the rest of the game I’d argue), especially compared to the rest of the game, (HoT maps included) and we can’t run them because we either a. aren’t good enough or b. don’t have 9 other friends
(edited by thewaterguy.4796)
Reinstalling didn’t fix the issue, I also took another screenshot that can show the issue much better, the spikes are bright orange
So I guess I’m the only one having this issue then, I’ll try reinstalling and see if that fixes anything
Have a decent picture of the bug in action, as you can see the “dark spikes” are actually brown, is it just me that is running into this issue? I would rather not reinstall the game unless I’m certain it’s just my client, I don’t have the greatest internet
EDIT: It would appear that this is not an issue unique to Mallyx, it’s just more noticable on Mallyx specifically, also it appears to only appear in very specific areas of the game, one area off the top of my head is level 40 fractal, molten boss, the black spikes, (and also Jalis’s ice crystals on initial swap) are turned bright orange and red
Just something that has been bugging me, often when channeling Mallyx the unyielding the “Black Spikes” that appear on the UI change colors between loading screens, I’ve seen them turn blueish-green orange, purple etc. Not sure if its just me bug I do know this only showed up a few patches ago, anyone else getting this problem? I can try to screencap but it might be difficult to see, and legend swapping doesn’t fix this either
I’ll try to get a proper screencap of the issue soon, unsure if its just an issue with my client or if others notice this
(edited by thewaterguy.4796)
Nah, arenanet will probably just follow there old logic, “Throw it out and make something new, Fractals are abandoned here’s this new thingy!” ok in all seriousness though come on you guys, you have to be aware of how much of a joke fractals are, if your goal was to make them a customizable difficulty 5-man dungeon where the highest levels are equivalent of raids, like you kept claiming before launch, you failed miserably, I get that fixing this isn’t simple by any means but could we get some sort okittennowledgement or something?
As previously stated, you don’t “need” to visit the mists to be a revenant, the excuse most roleplayers come up with is they studied the art of being a ritualist and practiced that until they became revenants…though yeah I really wish the devs would put more consideration into the lore…scrappers are a great example of that
Was In Dragon Stand, the map decided that it was going to close (even though we just filled the map) we managed to push to the end of MoM, and then the map closed and I got kicked out, the weird thing is not everyone got this message and got booted, so what the heck?
Ok now on to traits!
Rampant Vex
Mmmmmmmm….delicious torment…no issue with this one, it’s amazing
Demonic Defiance
No issue with this one, extra resistance? Love it, no brainer
Replenishing Despair
This one is…odd, I haven’t played with it alot, but I think it was clearly designed around the old beta version of Mallyx where you could self apply condi’s…I think the heal could use a buff to make it more viable
Venom Enhancement
This one sounds great in theory but the 20 second cooldown just kills it…what about 8 or 10 seconds instead? Otherwise Rev’s just don’t have enough poison to really justify taking this one imo, I mean the only skill I can think of is mace auto attack…
Opportune Extraction
Only complaint with this one is it’s rather boring, but mechanically it’s fine
Bolstered Anguish
This one…it again feels like a leftover of beta Mallyx, I think it would be better to nerf the damage to 2% but make it scale of the amount of Condi’s the enemy has on them
Frigid Precision
A tiny bit too short of a duration on the chill imo, but not the biggest deal, not a bad trait
Spontaneous Destruction
PvE it doesn’t see too much use, but PvP this baby is great, no complaints here
Yearning Empowerment
MOAR TORMENT MWAHAHAHAHAHA
Diabolic Inferno
Cycle this with Embrace the Darkness and you can stack up that fire, love it
Maniacal Persistence
Not a pick I personally take, but if you have low precision it might be work nabbing? I’m not sure…very meh for a grandmaster, I think the chance could use a buff
Pulsating Pestilence
This trait is just…useless, if it was an adept then it might be worth it but as a GrandMaster? If Mallyx still had the self conditioning then maybe it could be decent, but since that’s probably never going to happen this should really have its cooldown nerfed to 5 or 8 seconds to be worth it, and even then, diabolic inferno is just so great…
Hoo boy, sorry for the giant walls of text but I am curious as to what others think! And maybe we will see some buffs in the next balance patch (whenever that is) that will make some of the more “meh” traits and skills a bit more viable
(edited by thewaterguy.4796)
Alright, recently I swapped around my entire ascended build to a Jalis/Mallyx condition damage build, with retribution for some anti cc and survivability, I’ll admit at first I was very skeptical about how good Mallyx would be, in the beta’s he was insanely fun and interesting but then they completely destroyed his playstyle by removing the self applied conditions, I gave him another chance and…kitten color me pleasently surprised he is absolutely amazing when it comes to pulsing out conditions, I can honestly say he completely blew me away with just how much torment he can give, BUT with all that said I do think that a few of his skills/traits could use a bit of a reworking, so I’ll go through them all here, curious to see what other rev’s think!
(Oh yeah I also play primarily PvE open world and fractals, but I do dabble in PvP a tiny bit)
I’ll start with his utilities and will try to keep it short
Empowering Misery
Imo, this is a very solid heal, it’s base heal isn’t bad and the extra healing from conditions is insane, no problem with this thing! Misery Empower Us!
Pain Absorption
This thing is a very mixed skill, in fractals or dungeons, it’s great, running around in the open world? Well it’s kind of a mess…but that’s not really the skills fault it’s more an issue with how support is useless in open-world content in general, though I will say that for what it does I think it could maybe use a bit of a boost, maybe up the cap of players to 10? IDK maybe that’s going too far
Banish Enchantment
The confusion is pretty pathetic, making it a very below average dps skill, but that’s probably not it’s intent and as a boon strip? It’s great, rivaling even mesmers
Unyielding Anguish
This skill, I really don’t know what to make of it, the chill and torment is very solid, but for it’s cost, compare it to Mallyx’s elite, the amount of torment you can pulse out is just uncomparable, though then again that does prevent energy recharge…grrr I don’t think it’s as bad as alot of people say but I do think it could use a bit of a boost of some type…
Embrace the Darkness
Now witness true ultimate power!
Couldn’t have put it better myself Mallyx
(edited by thewaterguy.4796)
So…I guess no GW2 for me tonight…whee…
3kps? Pffft I’m getting 1 kps, seriously though I’m not sure what is going on, I’ve heard it’s due to running the 64-bit client, though IDK how to fix the issue, I guess just wait it out?
Absolutely agree with all of your points especially since have been in the exact same situation, I get why the system exists and it makes sense in most maps, specifically those that don’t have big map-wide meta events, BUT when it comes to maps that do have big map wide meta events the system should be changed so that once enough players enter the map and are capable of pushing the meta, the “server closing” should be cancelled
It’s driving me insane too, I entered for my dailies, PuG group, went up against an obvious pre-made team, we were destroyed obviously, what the hell is going on? Shouldn’t premades have there own separate matchmaking?
I tried Running Mayatl the Fierce and holy crap…who the hell designed that fight? The balancing is just ridiculous, the boss isn’t too difficult to beat if you have high health but man it just takes way too long…and before anyone claims that you should not solo it, good luck finding anyone willing to run it with you, assuming they even have the mastery most people don’t want to waste there time on the fight, am I just missing something or is this the reason that nobody runs this?
Compare it to the Tarnished Traitor, he’s literally there after the AB meta is finished, you walk right past him so it’s a case of “why not?” not to mention I believe his mastery is a kitteneaper, Mayatl requires you to go out of your kitten way, I really think he should be nerfed down so that he can be soloed if need be
(edited by thewaterguy.4796)
Thanks alot really appreciate the help!
I have the Itzel Leadership but I cannot find the Itzel Champion, the wiki is very vague and unhelpful as well…anybody give better directions?
Thanks in advance
Oh for…this again?
1. ArenaNet have NEVER said that the precourser crafting system would be easier or cheaper then the current way, it’s not meant to be easier, it’s meant to be an alternative method of obtaining a precursorIf your going to distill everything down to basic numbers, then fine don’t craft precursors just buy them if it means that much to you, but don’t come on the forums and cry about how precursors are too difficult to obtain, a legendary is not something handed to you,
2. What happened to the FUN? I found crafting my precursor super interesting and compelling, having to create a basic weapon then slowly upgrading and infusing it with various magics and strange items throughout the world
Can we please stop with this “discussion” about how ArenaNet “falsely advertised” (Which they didn’t) and quit demanding the system be changed to make it easier, legendaries are common enough already, and now that a non-RNG system is in the game, people still complain… sheesh, if you don’t like it go play a singleplayer game
I bet you’re filthy rich, and skip all the tedious part by buying everything, then you can have your fun in part 3.
Try not to use gold for once and start gathering 8000 soft woods, 6000 hard woods and call it fun.
Welcome to an MMO, legendary weapons are not some super cheap thing everyone gets as a “thanks for playing”, that’s why they are legendary weapons, as I said, if you don’t like it, you shouldn’t be playing MMO’s
LMAO.
All the MMO I know/played give you TOP GEARS by doing the HARDEST, TOUGHEST contents, TOUGHEST bosses, with TEAM EFFORT.
GW2 ask you to do the most boring stuffs: Logging/Mining for hundred of hours for legendaries. I DO NOT consider this as playing the game, or playing MMO.
I’m sorry, explain to me why Arena-net should devalue legendary weapons for all players who have worked so hard to craft them just because a few people whine about it on the forums? Legendaries are something you earn by dedicating time and effort to the game, simple as that, if you can’t understand that, well I’m afraid there’s nothing more I have to say to you
Oh for…this again?

Just a weird thing I’m noticing, I’m very new to PvP and have been losing alot of games, mostly because I think I’m going up against very expirienced PvP’ers ever game I lose they finish the lord off with the dragon rank finisher, am I just queuing up in the wrong area or is the matchmaking that bad or is there a lack of players?
PS: I’m not sure if this belongs in Players helping players but I’ve already posted it, so if the mods need to move it please feel free
If the upcoming living world seasons fix the issues with the story? Absolutely I will
Also people, STOP throwing around the word “grind” the mastery system is not a “grind” how dare an MMO employ a post max level progression system! If you don’t like it nobody is forcing you to keep playing, go play a singleplayer game if you don’t like it
First I haven’t seen any proof that mathematically it costs more flat gold to craft a precursor and even if it did, I would much rather go on an interesting journey where I have to explore the world and slowly refine this weapon as opposed to just dropping a bunch of gold on the trading post and getting it, the precursor crafting system as far as I’ve seen is cheaper then just buying it, and even if if isn’t that much cheaper, making a precursor is just much more interesting and dare I say “fun”
(edited by thewaterguy.4796)
As many of stated the problem is simple, rewards, the rewards vs difficulty in TD is just pitiful, people aren’t going to run difficult meta events if they aren’t rewarded enough to justify all the failures and the time spent learning the map
(Especially since its TD SCREW THAT MAP I absolutely loathe it’s design, it’s so kitten confusing and the Chak are just everywhere, I picked up a few hero points, the waypoints then did the story and never looked back)
(edited by thewaterguy.4796)
Grinding=doing the exact same thing over and over and over, playing the game=running around and doing stuff in the game, I think you are confusing the two far too much, if you don’t like having to play the game to earn stuff then why the hell are you playing an MMO? Go play fallout or skyrim where you can just skip a bunch of stuff if you don’t like it
Absolutely don’t get why Arena-net didn’t think of this, they can’t possibly add new mastery tracks fast enough to keep up, especially if (like me) you aren’t planning on raiding yet, the new track is locked until you kill some bosses in the raid, so for people that are done with masteries XP is completely worthless, why can’t as many suggest they just add a repeatable mastery that grants you a spirit shard when you complete it?
I don’t get this logic either, it can’t be that difficult to implement a seperate tab for raids, and as for the argument of “Oh its not meant for PuG’s” I have news for you, I ran with a PuG group earlier and we got very close to killing veil guardian, like it or not people are going to be PuG’ing the raids, and as of now all of the LFR’s are cluttering the open world content section…so I really don’t get the logic, if PuG’s want to run raids (which they do) why can’t arena-net implement such a simple system?
Look I get that raids were designed with guilds etc. in mind, but I don’t get why PuG’s can’t have a separate tab to make it easier, not everyone has the time to join a specific raid guild and only run raids at a specific time, for a company that’s so eager to promote “meeting new players” this system seems to completely fly in the face of that
If Arena-net doesn’t implement such a system then Open world content will just continue to be cluttered with LFR, and that will annoy other people
(edited by thewaterguy.4796)
Raids are not the only part of an expansion, far from it in fact, so I really don’t get how this is a problem…not to mention you can only claim rewards once per week so the fear that the rest of the game will lose its major elite players that used to kind of lead the way is irrelevant as well
Alright! Thanks alot Belzebu!
Ok I have a question for some raiders out there, I know that the standard build is 1 support 1 tank, 3 condis and 5 power for the 10 man raid, I have decided to try to shake up my build a little bit my focusing alot on the idea of fulfilling a tank role, without going into severe detail, I am a Herald running Glint/Jalis (Invocation, Retribution and Herald Lines) and according to my math once I have all my gear swapped around I will be running with around 2150 toughness flat, mixed in with another 250 on average from traits and consumables (hardening persistence) so my question, is 2150 mixed with 250 on almost all the time enough toughness to qualify for the “tank role” i.e. would it be enough to have more toughness then your average dps/support or would I need to do more gear swapping?
Thanks guys!
I did it but not really sure how to explain it, on your map just below the space between the words “Driftglass Springs” there is a waterfall that visually is much more flowing (water is spraying) walk up to the spray and activate
I still want a system by which we can acquire a precursor through a simple investment of time, rather than money, and which is not reliant on RNG.
Nothing like that exists in game, so it seems reasonable to continue to ask for it.
its not all gold investment, alot of it does require time, all the stuff you make is account bound, sure some of the stuff you can buy off the TP, but some of it you can’t, I love the new system personally you know…aside from the system-breaking bugs
(edited by thewaterguy.4796)
Simple solution that will make everyone happy…add an option to either enable or disable toned down effects, that way people that hate the clutter or run e-sports can disable it, but those who love the effects can keep it..maybe even make it set to low medium and high? It’s a game we have options
Frostfang STILL has its glacial infused jar’s disabled…
Join the club…I’m not even sure if there are any of the precoursers that work 100%, I’ve heard of issues with rodgort and twilight, and frostfang STILL has its jars disabled…and to add to it, we have NO WORD on when any of this will be fixed…
So when is this going to be fixed? I crafted the jars without knowing that it was disabled since I heard that the raids patch was going to address the precourser issues, I guess I was wrong? It’s been almost 3 weeks now…what the hell guys?
(edited by thewaterguy.4796)
Not sure why, but ever since the patch, my herald’s facet’s just flip off either instantly or after a few seconds of them being active, the facet isn’t “consumed” it just flips off…
This is an absolutely terrible idea.
Having a guild generate money from it’s members will only lead to more guild spamming in map chat, and eventually guild selling. Remember folks, a guild is ultimately owned by one person, and they can do what ever they chose with it.
It happened in WoW with the “Cashflow” perk, and it was such a fiasco that they completely removed all guild perks in the last XP.
We all ready have guild selling…have you not seen LFG lately? I’ve seen a few “Selling guild for 2000 gold, PM for details!” or something to that effect
Absolutely agree, I loved the whole thematic idea of Mallyx hating you and punishing you for using his abilities, and mechanically it was a very fun idea, the main problem was other players condi-cleansing you before you can really use your conditions, so did the dev’s come up with a creative way to fix it? Of course not, just gut him, a very simple fix to that problem would be having an added effect of his elite be that you are immune to condition cleansing…But until then Mallyx the Unyielding is just a waste, even on condition focused builds because revenant really doesn’t have many condi’s, originally you would get the condi’s from other players or Mallyx’s abilities, but that last minute change just killed him…
Ok! Thanks alot!
Where do you get the recipe?
I tried that, the auric silver and auric dust don’t show up in the discovery panel…
Ok now let me open by saying I may just be an idiot and can’t find the recipe but then at least I could craft it, I cannot find the recipie for Auric Ingots anywhere on the list, according to the wiki you automatically unlock the recipe but I have not been able to find it anywhere on weaponsmith or artificer, is there something really obvious I’m missing because I’m blind or is there a recipe somewhere I need?
