Mystic Forge crafted weapons and the economy

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: thewaterguy.4796

thewaterguy.4796

Ok so this is a rather interesting topic I thought I would bring up, there are of course other threads that exist and if a mod wants to merge please be my guest, I just wasn’t sure where best to post this so I thought I would post it here since the Economy Questions Repost is an absolute mess at the moment

In John’s post he talked alot about how certain items, namely silk and charged lodestones, are overpriced and inflated at the moment, he’s not wrong about that and I agree with his intentions to make these items less inflated, but something that does concern me and a few other players I’m sure is the current market around mystic forge crafted weapons, alot of popular weapons require charged lodestones or other such inflated mats and artificially deflating the price of the inflated mats would in turn cause the price of said weapons to drop, which could result in some rather nasty ramifications when it comes to the weapons market, a rather common way to make gold off of the Trading post has been to buy the materials required or farm them in the world if they require a legendary gift, and then selling the completed weapon on the trading post in order to make some gold, if charged lodestones, or any other mats in the game were artificially deflated it could result in said weapons severely devaluing, I know this sounds alot like “first world problems” but it is still something I am a little concerned about and I am just curious if the dev’s have put any thought into this, when the expac drops the economy is going to be all over the place and I just hope the dev’s aren’t planning to artificially devalue more inflated mats by just flooding players with more opportunities to obtain them, there is a reason why silk and charged lodestones are more expensive, it’s not necessarily because they are rarer then other mats, it’s because they are in higher demand compared to other mats

TL:DR To sum it all up, I understand some mats are inflated, but there is a reason they are inflated and I hope that the dev’s consider the ramifications of just artificially deflating mats by deliberately dropping said inflated mats more often than other non-inflated mats

Economy Questions Repost

Hey John, not sure if your still answering questions but I thought I would throw one out, you bring up charged lodestones alot, and rightfully so since they are rather inflated compared to other lodestones, but as somebody that is somewhat invested in the market of mystic forge crafted weapons that require charged lodestones should I be concerned about the weapons that I’ve crafted and are currently waiting to be sold severely becoming devalued as a result of charged lodestones becoming devalued?

Old Legendaries and New Crafting

The old legendaries are unchanged, the only change is that now you can craft the pre-courser instead of being forced to buy it or get it as a drop, everything else, the gift of fortune, mastery, weapon gift etc. is unchanged when it comes to old legendaries, at least I am 90% sure that is the case

I think your confusing grinding with playing the game, grinding would be doing the same thing for hours on end, Legendaries require you to do a variety of things, also known as playing the game,

Legendaries are not some shiny toy that everybody gets as a participation award, Legendaries are a very difficult and hardcore thing to obtain, and a big part of that is dedicating yourself to completing certain content

At this point, I could care less about dungeons, it absolutely sucks that Arena-net have just abandoned them at this point, seems any promises they had of improving them or adding more of them in the future are now dead, but dungeons are dead and non-content at this point, so I can’t say I care too much, I’ll be glad to see all of the “elites” that run dungeons like a kittening slave camp where unless you are playing zerker meta you are instantly kicked whine and cry about how players can avoid them now

Guild Mission/Favor problem for 1-2 p guilds

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: thewaterguy.4796

thewaterguy.4796

I find the hatred towards one to two person guilds, frankly disgusting, some people don’t want to be a part of a 50-man or 500 man guild because they feel lost in the shuffle and don’t have alot of say, especially when it comes to guild halls, I run a 2 person guild and with the current system it is absolutely viable, spending gold to buy influence has been how we built the guild so it’s clear Arena-net have designed guilds to allow for this kind of thing, and frankly I don’t want to see that change, secondly who are you to say what is and isn’t a guild? Destiny’s edge is considered a guild, and it’s only made up of about 5 characters, the lore doesn’t reference Destiny’s edge as a “party” it’s a guild, so I don’t see what’s wrong with asking for scaling down guild missions for smaller guilds. Thirdly I find the statement “Just make a guild” to be ridiculous, clearly you have never tried building a guild before because it’s not as simple as typing in a guild name and finding five random friends, odds are those 5 people you recruit will rarely if ever log into the game, and even if they do won’t even represent the guild you are trying to build, if your part of a larger guild and complaining about this, kitten off, because this doesn’t concern you, please explain to me how it takes away from your game-play expierience that a 1-2 man guild can have it’s own guild hall just like a 50-man guild? Me and OP aren’t demanding that it be as easy, obviously if your a larger guild then you can make stuff faster, all we are asking is for 1-2 man guilds to be actually viable

Yes exactly and thank you.

Have you guys missed that most of the guild missions will be the same for all guilds when hot hits you can team up with other small guilds and do them together.

http://dulfy.net/2015/09/30/gw2-guild-missions-changes-and-improvements/

Since every guild will roll the same guild missions every week, we wanted to make sure that guilds wouldn’t have to wait for other guilds to complete their missions before they could participate. Instancing the missions allows several guilds to complete their challenges and puzzles at the same time without having to worry about who’s going to receive credit. However, if you want to participate in guild challenges and puzzles with friends and other guilds, you can still ferry players into the puzzles and challenges

Maybe you should check the information we get before you start to complain that it needs to be implemented

Edit
Since you know there are so many 1-2 person guilds by experience maybe you should band together and do said guild missions with them perhaps?

Edit2
And since there will be wvw objectives were you need to hold things untill its upgraded you could do that aswell since there is surely going to be other guilds doing the same as you just coordinate in wvw mapchat.

First of all I know about that quote but the fact remains, we don’t know how this is going to work, you do make a legitimate point BUT as it stands their is still a cause for some concern as far as actually getting people to participate with you if your a smaller guild, if their isn’t a proper incentive for non-guild members to help out then it could become difficult…also in WvW as it stands only one guild can hold an objective and the game decides that based on the amount of guild members that helped cap it, I get why it’s like that and I certainly don’t want to see that go away, but I do think that other guilds that helped capture the objective should get something for helping out, not equivalent but something…I’m not denying that system is there and it absolutely will probably help nullify the situation, but we still don’t know specifics about how this will work and until then people like myself and Jedi do have some cause for concern

And don’t even bother with the argument of “Your just complaining because you don’t get access to the content” when it comes to raiding, I understand that because that is a skill-cap, but guilds? I hate the idea of things being arbitrarily gated off because you don’t have enough friends or you don’t happen to run a giant established community, please respect that some people don’t want to be a part of a medium to large guild and would rather try to form a small group of something like 2-3 person guild, sheesh, at the very least make a 5 man guild viable, at least then smaller guild’s can team up with other small guilds or PuG’s in order to complete the content and earn favor

Druid Healer Confirmed - Feedback [merged]

in Ranger

Posted by: thewaterguy.4796

thewaterguy.4796

I’m not against Druid’s being a healer that’s fine, the problem is GW2 has never really had a place for a dedicated healer except in very specific situations, support does not equal healing, I personally don’t care about Druid at all just not my thing thematically but the main problem is with the way the game is designed in the first place, that being that going full healer isn’t very rewarding at all, if you want to know why I can bring up WoodenPotatoes video of why healing power sucks:

Sadly alot of what he said in the video still holds up, Arenanet keeps talking about how they want support and healing and tanking to be rewarding and that’s great, but they haven’t actually told us anything about how they are going to do that! I’ll be more open to the idea of raw healing when I hear more about how Arena-net intend to address the issue of support/tanking not being as rewarding as just DPS

Is f2p causing community toxicity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: thewaterguy.4796

thewaterguy.4796

There’s no guarantee the player in question was an F2P player, as for the question, I don’t think so, yes the F2P surge has caused some salty veterans because they get sick of Vinewrath’s failing or dungeon runs being slowed down because they constantly are kicking newbies out of their parties, but that’s not necessarily the F2P players fault, so overall maybe it’s causing a little bit of dissidence but it’s not entirely F2P players causing the problem it’s a mix of many other things

Silverwaste Chest Farming

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: thewaterguy.4796

thewaterguy.4796

Excuse me how is this a big problem? So chest farmers need to be nerfed just so that you can save 20 seconds of looking for a map? I have never understood the complaints about event maps conflicting with chest maps or vice versa, I have yet to see any real problems, chest maps require shovels to function, and shovels come from event maps, event maps are usually more plentiful than chest maps…what’s the problem here? Just spend more than 5 seconds in LFG and you’ll probably find a decent event map

Honestly I think its a good change, presuming Arena-net have properly balanced key drop rates all this means is the same amount of keys will be in existence, they will just be spread out among players alot more, and overall that’s a very good thing, I can actually now get keys doing content that is fun

Of course that is a big IF since we don’t know the details on the drop rates, like how often and where

It feels like your gutting alot of what makes the class so unique and fun to play in favor of streamlining and making things more like the other classes…and professions not being distinct enough is already a big enough problem in the game thanks

Too be more specific, I understand the displacement issue, but removing the self inflicted conditions is silly since it takes away from the playstyle and even takes away from the theme of “Mallyx doesn’t like you so he punishes you with condi’s” aside from that embrace the darkness was a very fun and unique skill and this is just gutting it like that is a massive kick in the teeth to Mallyx fans

whats the lore behind revenant?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: thewaterguy.4796

thewaterguy.4796

Short answer, Rytlock came from the mists so he may have picked up some new tricks,

Long Answer, The revenant seems to be using very similar magics to a GW1 class called the “ritualist”

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Ritualist

In the first game they were “mist-speakers” that could essentially speak/summon ancient hero’s or spirits to assist them in combat, think similar to necromancer magic but instead of a focus on flesh/blood/bone they focused on the afterlife and souls

So yes this magic has existed in the past, the reason its not in today’s tyria is because the Ritualist profession originates in Cantha, another continent in the world that we have not yet explored

Mordrem Invasion Update: 11 September 12:30 PM

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: thewaterguy.4796

thewaterguy.4796

Ok I’ll go into a ton more detail in a moment but to summarize why alot of people, including me, hate this event: It just feels lazy and rushed in its design

1.The event is just not very interesting to play, nothing new or unique has really been implemented, the blog post hyping this thing made it sound like we could get to experience maybe some new tech of some sort coming in HoT? It would go a long way in getting people hyped up especially with release relatively close, but no recycling the same enemies and the same vinecrawler and the same catapults just feels lazy and boring. Compare it to LS Season 2 or Season 1, say what you will about the combat but at least we got to see some new enemies with new tactics, the tower of nightmares introduced the Toxic Alliance which say what you will I still thought they were interesting with the hallucinations and the fact that you actually had to finish some of them off to prevent them from rezzing…Then Season 2 introduced us to all the Mordrem enemies that we have been fighting since not even mentioning the awesome marionette fight during the queen’s jubilee, and then this event? Well it has…recolored Husks I guess…see what I mean?

2.The event encourages what players refer to as “tagging” the practice of running to an event participating in it for a few seconds in order to get credit for it and then move on, this has been a problem with the dynamic event system since launch, but this event really magnifies it to a whole new level, the fact that the mobs we fight don’t drop loot or exp really turns it from a mild annoyance to a rampant problem, I’ve seen tons of people that say “Well I would stick around more but they don’t drop anything so what’s the point?”

3.The rewards are just mediocre, many have accurately pointed out that the rewards are sad, compare them to the Silverwastes where you can earn tons of gold quite easily especially if you know what you are doing, this event? You end up losing tons of gold in order to even buy items from the vendor, worse you aren’t even recouped some of those costs from drops because again, the mordrem don’t drop anything

4.F2P players are getting driven away, this is a certified fact, I have seen tons of comments on youtube or even in map chat to the effect of “Yeah my friend was playing on a F2P account and then this event happened…he quit because he got tired of being yelled at” and that sucks, this event has drawn out the evil side of us “veterans” and rampant name calling or passive aggressive comments to the effect of “lolz what noobs” are rampant in map chat right now, and yeah you can turn off map chat but if you are new to the game its your only source of information on what to do,

so F2P or newer players are stuck in this cycle of “Dirty stupid noob go back to Call of duty” and then the newer player is like “so what do I do?” whlie struggling to fight the mobs and figure out whats going on, all this time the chat is filled with absolute poison and QQ’ing and more name calling…I know its the internet but the terrible implementation and design of this event has alot to do with it I feel, and thats not even getting into the severe limits on the rewards they get compared to paid players…

So yeah newer players have zero reason to run this event, they don’t get significant gold because no drops, they don’t get exp because they keep dying, and they don’t learn anything because people are too busy name-calling to explain anything

All this means is tons of new people can play the game without spending a dime, which also means you can invite friends/family to try out the game with you before buying it, Great Move Arena-net! I am super pumped

It’s not the greatest name ever, but it does fit thematically with the style of combat and at the same time doesn’t add confusing lore inconsistencies like another elite spec cough dragonhunter cough overall, not the greatest name but it’s not the worst name either

Besides what other alternatives are there? Assassin doesn’t work thematically with the style of fighting (its a very high dps dodgy spec, not a sneaky backstaby style) Acrobat is already an existing trait line, Monk implies healing, which again isn’t anything like this style…so yeah

I don’t think it’s entirely fair to say that because other classes don’t get alot of superspeed/quickness revenant shouldn’t get it so easily since there’s alot that revenant doesn’t have, and personally I don’t see impossible odds being to overpowered since it does drain your energy so fast, with all that said though I haven’t touched PvP and have barely done any WvW so I can’t really say if it’s a huge problem there or not… You could be right about it being OP in some circumstances but it does drain your energy insanely quick which does leave you very vulnerable, especially if you get stunned or blocked while it’s active. All I am trying to say is their does exist counterplay to rev’s spamming impossible odds, so I don’t think it’s that overpowered, but on the flip-side I don’t PvP so for all I know impossible odds-ing revenants could be absolutely tearing up everything and everyone in PvP or WvW right now

Legends

Jarlis

-Soothing Stone-Pretty solid heal and the condi-clear is a nice touch, only real complaint I have is I would prefer the retaliation duration to maybe be increased a little bit since I usually don’t have conditions to actually clear. That’s probably just a PvE thing though

-Inspiring Reinforcement-This is really the only Jarlis skill I have no problems with, I use it alot, very solid and fun to use

-Forced Engagement-This is where I get into major problem territory…This skill is just…mediocre for it’s whopping 50 energy cost, either increase the taunt and slow to maybe 4 seconds(?) or better yet lower the energy cost to 25-35ish, would definitely make this skill alot more useful

-Vengeful Hammers-This skill is just outright useless, I get that it doesn’t drain your energy very fast but it also prevents energy from recharging and what do you get? an unblockable 300ish damage that maybe hits every second or so… This skill needs to have a major buff added to it, maybe increase the energy cost and have it pulse retaliation or protection while it’s active? Would be on theme with the whole “tank” angle Jarlis has going

-Rite of the Great Dwarf- Ok the effect is fine in it’s current state, 50 energy for that damage reduction isn’t my problem, my problem comes with the 2.75 second channeling time, I get that it’s supposed to prevent spamming it but the 50 energy cost stops that quite nicely, the skill is fine but make the channel time more like 1 second, what’s worse is if it’s interrupted the 50 energy is lost, UNLIKE Shiro’s jade winds which doesn’t use the energy until AFTER the skill has been cast.

Overall: Jarlis is definitely my favorite legend thematically, mechanically though I do think some of his skills need some major buffing, especially his upkeep skill

Shiro

-Enchanted Daggers-Pretty solid and fun heal, the damage is nice and the healing isn’t bad my problem comes with the “1 second interval” maybe I’m just not attacking fast enough but I kept finding I couldn’t actually get all 6 dagger procs off pretty often and I can’t understand why the interval even exists, if it’s to prevent insane burst damage I don’t think the damage done by the daggers is that severe…so yeah remove the interval or at least nerf it down to maybe 1/2 a second? IDK maybe it’s just me not using it properly

-Riposting Shadows-No complaints here, I didn’t use it an awful lot but when it was useful it was REALLY useful

-Phase traversal-The shadowstep compliments Riposting Shadows perfectly and the extra bit of damage isn’t bad, the unblockable 2 attacks I don’t get being too useful since shiro is based around small damage but many attacks? To be fair though, I am a PvE’er and I’m going to guess this has more uses in PvP so overall not bad

-Impossible Odds-This skill is just…insane, I absolutely love using it, I don’t think it’s OP though considering how fast it drains your energy so another great one, no complaints

-Jade Winds-A very fun skill to use for sure, not too many complaints though I do think that the Jade effect could do a bit more to enemy break bars considering how much energy we are using

Overall: Shiro is definitely my favorite Legend mechanically speaking, no major complaints I have experienced

i feel like the auto attack may do a tad too much damage and i do think that impossible odds is pretty OP.

i think maybe taking a small amount of damage off of the 2nd attack in the chain maybe the 5 to 10% wouldn’t be a bad idea but no major compliants.

HOWEVER
impossible odds BIG complaints on my part. i think giving super speed and quickness so liberally is a big mistake. no profession has half as much access to either super speed or quickness i don’t think rev should get both.

i think to avoid wrecking the entire profession. maybe increase the energy start up cost by 5 and increase the energy drain rate ALSO by five would be a good idea to fix this.

while it’s true that it drains fast i’ve had Impossible odds up for nearly 10 seconds and energy regens so fast in combat i feel like something needs to be done.

hammer rev felt pretty good over all no major compliants.

Traits (Continued)

Retribution

-Enduring Recovery-Meh, not a bad trait I guess… just kind of boring, it is a minor tho

-Planar Protection-Use it when JP’ing enough said

-Close Quarters- Very solid trait and the logical choice out of all 3 for almost any situation imo, just kind of shows how bad the other apprentice traits are…

-Improved Aggression- Ok this I guess makes some sense, but wow it’s just terrible, it mostly just ties into how impossible it is to actually taunt something for a significant amount of time, maybe there’s some rune/sigil synergy we don’t know about but I feel like this trait needs an added benefit on top of the base trait. Maybe have a chance to taunt an enemy when hit or something? I don’t know… just comparing it to Close Quarters it’s just…useless

-Unwavering Avoidance- mmmmm that delicious stability, maybe a little low on duration considering the recent stability change but I can’t complain too much

-Eye for an Eye-I don’t know… I feel like the recharge needs to be cut down to like 20 seconds or something, maybe it’s just because I PvE and I’m usually against bosses that can’t be taunted? Another trait I feel needs an extra benefit

-Retaliatory Evasion-Fun little trait, no real complaints aside from a maybe slightly increased retaliation duration

-Redeeming Protection-My personal favorite, very solid defense against getting CC’d doesn’t stun break but at least you won’t get pounded into dust as badly with that protection on you

-Determined Resolution-Flat 10% decrease to damage is very strong, only real nitpick would be to lower the threshold to maybe 50%? but that might be Overpowered…

-Empowering Vengeance-Very strong trait, just wish that Jarlis had more retribution…

-Destructive Hammer-Useless for the same reason Vengeful hammers is moving on

-Steadfast rejuvenation-Thematically love the idea but a grandmaster? that heal isn’t very significant… buff up the heal a bit more or maybe remove the cooldown and make the trigger something like 20%

Invocation

-Invokers Rage-Love it no complaints

-Cruel Repercussion-I really don’t get this trait… unless you are specifically paying very close attention to when you get blocked it’s just insignificant… I’d prefer to see it completely redesigned personally but if you really want to “fix” it I guess I would say make it double damage? I don’t know… just seems like garbage

-Cleansing Channel-Love this trait, the condi cleanse on legend swap is very nice

-Fierce infusion-Another solid one, if I didn’t desperately need the condi cleanse I would definitely take this one, maybe consider upping the fury duration by a few seconds would be my only complaint

-Ferocious Aggression-7% damage while I have fury… nope no problems

-Equilibrium- Ok thematically I love this traits idea and I love the animation…BUT I feel like the numbers are a little too low to make it very significant… the 1200 damage isn’t too bad but you hardly ever see that if you are playing revenant gag “optimally” (hate saying that) but the heal is just pitiful. bring the heal up to around 800-1000 or maybe even 1200 and it would be another solid trait

-Invigorating Flow-Not terrible thematically but I feel like the heal could use a little buff or the cooldown could use a little reduction… especially considering its a master

-Incensed Response-A little boring thematically but can’t deny it’s synergy very solid trait especially if you are against alot of stuns

-Empty Vessel-No complaints very nice trait

-Roiling Mists-Love the synergy no complaints

-Charged Mists-I’m not sure, maybe I’m just misunderstanding this one? Personally don’t see any uses but I guess if you were really good you could stack might insanely fast? I don’t know, it’s just too strange to really comment on for me

-Shrouding Mists-I don’t know, I didn’t play the support angle too much so the numbers might need adjusting, but I’m glad it’s a flat 25% increased healing and flat 10% damage reduction as opposed to stat increases…

(Taking a break too much typing)

Traits

Devastation

-Mutiliate Defenses-Good

-Assassins Reprisal-Solid ferocity buff no complaints

-Rapid Lac-I can’t say alot since I didn’t use it a ton, but from looking at it in action, definitely seems pretty kitten powerful and a good choice

-Malicious Reprisal-This is a weird one for me, personally I didn’t touch it since it seemed useless to me, but that’s probably just from a PvE standpoint… So I am questioning it’s uses maybe lower the cooldown on it?

-Targeted Destruction-Very solid trait with great synergy

-Jade Echo-Ok maybe not too practical in PvE but it’s just too fun to thematically pass up, only complaint is the 25% boost while downed… just doesn’t make alot of sense to me but can’t really complain

-Nefarious Momentum-Ok this trait I like as an idea, but I feel like 2 might is a little bit low considering the energy cost of Shiro… I mean compare it to Mallyx’s 2 seconds of resistance is way better than 2 might imo

-Ferocious Strikes-Another solid skill, if I didn’t want Jade Echo because Shiro fanboy I would take this one

-Focused Siphoning-Fun little minor trait to run though I do think the damage could be increased a tiny bit? Maybe I’m asking too much there…

-Swift Termination-I have no idea, again PvE’er so probably more useful to PvP and from what I’ve heard it’s pretty solid and people like it so not gonna complain

-Dismantle Fortifications-Ok this one is weird for me, I love it as an idea but it just feels…out of place in Devastation… I don’t know just makes more sense on Jarlis I think… but whatever I guess

-Assassins Annihilation-My personal favorite, no complaints here

Ok so obviously alot of people are giving feedback on the revenant but what I have noticed (no offense meant to anyone) is a real lack of structured criticism some threads just boil down to here’s a list of problems, so to help combat this I’m going to go through every single revenant trait/skill I had a chance to use enough to feel like I can criticize and give my thoughts on it. (Yes I have way too much time on my hands DON’T JUDGE ME!!!)

First of all a couple of things to keep in mind!

1. I am a PvE player almost exclusively, I do some WvW but almost never PvP, so alot of this is coming from a PvE perspective (I will reference that)

2. I will attempt to give a sort of “summary” on the legends specifically since they have the most unique and interesting mechanics imo

Now then lets get started!

Weapon Skills:

Sword:

-Auto attack chain- Not alot to say here, seems pretty solid in it’s current form, didn’t run into any real problems, rift slash is interesting as a sort of cleaving damager

-Precision Strike-Another pretty solid skill, nice that it hits 3 targets only real complaint is the chill being almost insignificant but very minor complaint

-Unrelenting Assault-Love this skill, very interesting risk/reward mechanic in that you can do damage but are locked into the animation unless you weapon swap, the might is also a very nice touch. For balancing sake I am also glad you don’t evade or become invulnerable while this skill is active

-Duelists Prep-Very interesting and fun to use skill, I do wish that skills similar to this one were patched to work the same way as this one does, where you aren’t “forced” to cast the secondary skill immediately

-Grasping Shadows-Another very fun and interesting skill, I did run into some problems with terrain clipping though but that’s just a bug

Axe

-Frigid Blitz-Solid mobility/damage skill no real complaints here

-Temporal Rift-No real complaints here, once again solid skill
