The new Rev

Yes we’ve established this, Arenanet finally woke up and did something about Ventari making a Glint/Ventari build viable, the problem is the rest of the class, you know…the other 60% of the specializations, Jalis and Mallyx have been broken and terrible ever since they got gutted from beta, and Shiro was progressively whittled down into garbage, and I do not like the idea of waiting another 2 years just for Arenanet to finally fix one more out of the 3 broken ones, (it took em bloody that long to fix just one out of the 4 think about that)

What Ventari is missing

in Revenant

Posted by: thewaterguy.4796

thewaterguy.4796

If you ask me Ventari isn’t the problem, the problem is the other lackluster legends, Jalis would in theory perfectly make up for Ventari’s lack of stunbreak, Shiro would in theory complement the lack of mobility perfectly, except for one problem, Mallyx, Jalis and especially Shiro are in a terrible position as of now, effectively killing the whole point of the profession, Ventari has weaknesses that, in theory, would be mostly solved by the other legend you run, of course thats not what we see though.

Thats not to say that Ventari couldn’t use a couple more tweaks and changes but I really think the recent patch finally fixed him to work really well (for the most part the movement of tablet still feels a bit iffy when it comes to support) the root of the problem is the broken, buggy and shameful state of the other “Legends” only exception would be Glint and frankly Ventari/Glint sounds great in theory but they run into the problem of overkilling on support and lacking on the survive side of things

Fair enough, it just really kills me since I was such a huge fan of the rev I actually started a fanfic for my character in hopes of playing around with the whole dual personality thing, yea…the passion for that has died because of the buggy, weak and broken feel of the class not to mention the complete lack of lore on how they work…I promised myself the day they finally ironed out all the issues with Jalis and Mallyx was the day I would go back and continue the fanfic regardless of the lacking lore (I can make some pretty safe assumptions to make up for it) but of course that still hasn’t happened…I doubt the “balance devs” even bother reading these forums or ever play revenant judging by the hilariously out of touch comments about the class

I can say though, Ventari has become actually viable, he’s no longer clunky and buggy, everything feels super smooth and, can’t believe I can actually say this, powerful, every 3 seconds and 5 energy he can heal 800hp (on a build completely devoid of salvation and healing power gear) in a line…(too bad its easily the lamest legend of em all) Hopefully Arenanet have finally pulled their heads out from there behinds and will be giving Mallyx and Jalis the same treatment in the next few patches (and also a bit o Shiro fixing yeah?)

Don’t bring up beta mallyx…I’ll start crying again, side note what the hell happened to invocation? I remember back in beta invocation had this idea of swirling orb mists that you get on the default traits, they healed allies when they got hit and when you swapped legends you would “breath” them in to heal up, that idea sounded awesome, but NOPE “Uhh…here’s some minor things buffing fury DONE!” something rev got gutted from beta to release and it has never been fixed

So the we got the rev buffsss

in Revenant

Posted by: thewaterguy.4796

thewaterguy.4796

I like the buffs because it made Ventari somewhat viable. Bet some WvT blob-material healer revenants love it. However, I started playing revenant as a damage dealer and always looked upon revenant as damage dealer but I am not even sure any more.
Maybe revenant IS a psycho class with multiple split personalities after all…

People who like ventari role have been waiting longer for buffs than people who like the damage dealer role though =P

And what about us Bunker/Condi revs that are waiting on Jalis and Mallyx to actually be fixed? We’re still waiting

I’m glad some people actually get it, Yeah Revenant is fun as a distraction, but would you actually consider using a Revenant as your main? They are outclassed by almost everything else, the only thing they are vaguely good at since the recent “changes” (which were token at best) is a Ventari/Glint Herald support build, Jalis and Mallyx condi build? (my sad desperate attempt at a viable build btw) forget it, Condi Reaper will easily blow you out of the water both in terms of damage and sustain, Shiro? Oh neat, he can teleport and dodge and sometimes he has a stun…forget impossible odds far too expensive an energy cost

[PvP] Jalis?

Arenanet seem hellbent on completely making Mallyx and Jalis completely unviable, Shiro has things a bit better but not by much, Ventari/Glint support build is the only actually viable thing you can use in Raids or PvP…Great work on balancing btw Arenanet really appreciate you guys throwing us a tiny scrap by slightly buffing Jalis in a pitful sad way…

(I’ve tried him he’s awful, almost worthless, I only use him in PvE for the theme, if I was actually serious my build would be out the window, I can manage to run high level fractals coasting on my skill level but thats it, if you want my advice, go play guardian)

I have made several suggestions on fixing him and Mallyx, as have several people, and Arenanet have completely ignored us…so I’m not reiterating here

I don’t think Revenant is completely broken or unplayable BUT if you aren’t running Herald Support your usefulness drops dramatically compared to other professions…thats one of the reasons I avoid Raids and PvP like the plague because I would rather not be stuck in one viable playstyle that Arenanet seems to insist is the only playstyle revenant is allowed to have, what the hell are they doing? The buffs revenant got were token at best

Rev Legend You Don't Want To See

thewaterguy.4796

Arena-net should not even entertain the idea of a GW2 legend for Rev, as stated before there are FAR too many much more interesting and kitten characters from GW1,

As far as getting more specific, I would prefer to see a more “evil” or “morally gray” character for the next Legend, maybe don’t go with Rurik or Turai, top of my list is Khilbron or possibly Kanaxi

Why are people so afraid of raiding?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: thewaterguy.4796

thewaterguy.4796

the complete lack of a “practice mode” (which is apparently a HORRIBLE idea for…some reason) doesn’t allow me to actually practice raiding, and I refuse to go anywhere near the toxic cesspool that is raid recruiting, I have never encountered anything that is so terrible or mean-spirited in GW2 before, I feel like I’m at a job interview and the boss really hates me whenever I look into raiding with a group, the smug elitism on display is the exact garbage I played GW2 too get away from

Other than that, I don’t like the idea of spending 5+ hours with 9 other people that I probably don’t even know in real life just trying to push through a raid (and probably getting nothing to show for all the work), hence why I do fractals, 20ish minutes, done, my solution is simple, add a practice mode to raids that severely limit rewards so that people can get the story of raiding and practice the mechanics, that way maybe we can get some more sane people in the raiding community to knock the smug elitist pricks off their high horses

Really? No new Halloween content? Again?

Yeah mark me down for being pretty kitten kittened off about this, we haven’t seen new proper halloween content in…2 years now, the year before HoT we got basically nothing new, then the year of HoT we got again, basically nothing new, and now the third year in a bloody row? And you don’t have the excuse of HoT anymore its out now

Too make matters worse its not even recycling the same content, SO much has been cut, where is Lunatic Inquisition? Where are the other earlier gamemodes? Also what happened to Bloody Prince Thorn? I would much rather have the next LWS3 patch deal with him as opposed to the dragons, both him and his father are much more interesting

Making tiers in Raids like fractals?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: thewaterguy.4796

thewaterguy.4796

Please give me one objective proven reason as to why I am wrong, […]

It would (at least) double the development and maintenance time of raids, and inhibit their ability to deliver new raids and raid wings in a schedule that meets their current intent. In other words, there’s no way they can support another raid mode without reducing the amount of content they output in a year.

I get your point in theory, except…I believe that you are exaggerating, how would it double the development time exactly? Do you think that all the fractals difficulty scales are designed separately and one fractal is the equivalent of making 10? Because I’m pretty sure thats not how it works, all it would take would be some number tweaking and rebalancing, yes it would take some time, but so many more players would get to look forward to raids and actually enjoy the content and story, it really shouldn’t affect the development time that significantly

Also apologies in advance if I get a bit heated, this topic really bugs me because every time I try getting into raids all I get are elitist pricks giving me 30 reasons why I’m a casual noob and need to stop playing and uninstall and kill myself and blah blah blah and it doesn’t help when I get onto forums and people just tell me I’m ignorant or whatever without any actual reasons

Making tiers in Raids like fractals?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: thewaterguy.4796

thewaterguy.4796

I am so sick of this stupid argument, their is nothing to argue, Raids SHOULD have a story mode or easier difficulty like Fractals, The argument comes from a selfish place of wanting to be a special little snowflake that gets exclusive access, the argument that it would take away from Raid development is kind of BS if you ask me, all they would have to do is change a couple of numbers around and it would open Raids up to be available to alot more players. I will never understand it, are you that starved for content and that impatient that the idea of letting a ton of other players have access to new content when a new raid comes out might interfere with you getting a raid that the idea infuriates you?

GW2 the MMO that has always stood for respecting a players time and everyone can enjoy the same content…is actively blocking people from raiding. And don’t even bother with the “your just mad” crap guys, my problem isn’t skill, my problem is lack of a group, and not I’m not interested in spending 5-7 hours in a single raid just to have everyone go “Oh well g2g guys bye!” ugh will Arenanet just add a difficulty selector already? I’m not even asking for the same rewards, I mostly would prefer to experience the story first hand as well as learn the game mechanics for myself so that maybe I’ll have a shot at you know…breaking into raiding

Please don’t bother offering me to join a group, I have put up with enough harassment and taunting from so called “Raiders” crying about how I can’t roll with them unless I have X Y Z A B C D G H L M and at least 2 of J and if I don’t have that I’m not “good enough” to be a raider and I should uninstall…this is the type of garbage I play GW2 to avoid, and yet…here it is…

No way to access Bloodstone Fen without LS?

thewaterguy.4796

sigh I know this isn’t a huge deal to people on the forums (mostly because they are actively playing the game so it doesn’t affect them) but try to look at this from the perspective of a player just getting into GW2…I don’t know, I would find the idea of having to buy all the maps that were updated for free to people that were actively playing kind of off-putting…I guess it would depend on the price and other factors

I’m not going to panic and declare “the death of GW2” or anything ridiculous like that, BUT I am concerned about the idea to say the least, I would prefer arena-net to just go back to LWS2 model where all you miss is the story instances, but if that doesn’t happen the episodes should be pretty cheap on the gem store (maybe like 500 gems for the whole season and 100 each episode?) and/or also make a possible workaround be using a tele to friend to unlock the map (though again, could that be considered cheating?) too many unknowns here for my taste, (if the maps are being included does that then jack up the price compared to season 2?)

  1. Don’t ever use the word entitled when it comes to consumer rights, its a dirty word
  2. Over time, the price tends to add up
  3. Oh ok, I can’t be bothered to log in…hmmm…I’m not thinking about this for me, I’m thinking about this from the perspective of someone who is coming into the game later down the line (say 2-3 years from now) I’m sorry, but I would feel a bit ripped off because I had the audacity to NOT have been playing GW2 when the updates went live
  4. Yeah…poor hungry wungry arenanet with all its gemstore purchases! Won’t someone please think of them?

Look I get what you are saying, but I am NOT ok with splitting the community in this way, especially when LWS2 didn’t do that, if it was like this from the very beginning with Living World, then I wouldn’t be as upset about it, its changing the precedent that makes me angry, Arena-net already said you needed HoT to access LWS3, which is fair, but when purchasing HoT many people (rightfully) presumed that they would get future updates alongside it, forcing them to purchase something because gasp you had a LIFE? How dare you not log in to get something you didn’t know existed! For your crimes, now you must purchase the LWS3 pack, only 19.99!

Yeah… here’s the problem Illlconceived, YOU CAN’T ACCESS BLOODSTONE FEN WITHOUT GOING THROUGH THE INSTANCE AS OF NOW, as far as I’m aware, as it currently stands if you do not own Out of the Shadows but your friend does…too bad so sad you can’t access Bloodstone Fen with them, unless of course you slip arenanet a couple of bucks to buy LWS3…before in S2/1 this wasn’t an issue because, even though you missed out on the instances and the rewards, you still got access to the maps…with this new trend of having the maps be impossible to access without the corresponding season…yeah…I don’t like this idea of being so split from people that I want to play with that are just new or returning, not only do they have to buy an expac, but they also need to buy every single LWS3 episode to get the maps?

I really hope arenanet aren’t stupid enough to do this and have an alternate method for people to access the map if they own HoT but not LWS3 out of the shadows…Think a couple months down the line, 3 episodes in, what if someone is just then wanting to play the game with a friend? Now they need to buy HoT AND all the LWS3 episodes…

I’m not going to freak out yet since I presume that arena-net are not money grubbing jerkwads and actually want to encourage people to get into the game and will do something about it when the next patch comes out…

(should be interesting to see what happens if Arenanet do try this…would letting someone bypass access to the new map via a Tele to Friend be bannable in that situation?)

Chapter 2: Whispers in the Stone

Time: 1324 AE

The sound of snow crunching beneath metal echoed around the mountainous region of Lornar’s Pass. Vulon Warcaller moved slowly through the region that he knew as “The Winterthaw Snowfield” the cold pierced his metal armor with ease and even managed to seep through his thick white fur. He recalled with regret how he had ended up so far from the Black Citadel, after finding an odd tome while attempting to escape the Ascalonian Catacombs that snaked beneath the Plains of Ashford he decided to contact the Durmand Priory in order to discover what the tome was meant for. Unfortunately the translation was proving to be much more difficult than he initially suspected and, in return for the translation, Vulon had offered his services to the priory…a decision that he now regretted.

The priory’s research had been recently interrupted by a race of creatures known as the dredge. Vulon was familiar with the strange creatures as they had proven to be a nuisance to the mining operations back in Ascalon but, according to the priory, this was different. “All this for a translation of an old book…with my luck, it will be nothing more than a list of proper seating arrangements for festivals” Vulon muttered under his breath as he moved slowly over the mounds of snow. As he approached the abandoned research site he heard what sounded like dredge. He was never one to shy away from a fight, but with no way of knowing how many were nearby he quickly scrambled up a nearby small hill and hid behind a pair of rock spires. Trying to ignore the cold water that now clung to his paws he carefully looked around one of the stones he was using for cover.

“Any signs of the dwarf sympathizers?” Vulon managed to hear as he spotted a pair of dredge patrolling the site. “Nothing, do you think that they have come to their senses and will leave us to our work?” the other creature asked hopefully. “These ones are different…persistent, mark my words, they will return eventually” the other dredge finished with a shake of the head. Being careful to hold his breath Vulon waited another moment before carefully searching for the patrol once more. Sighing with relief when he saw them continue away from him, Vulon crept out from behind his hiding place, carefully entering the mine through the pair of wooden pillars. Remembering that caves carry sound easily he made sure to drop down on all fours in order to distribute his weight more evenly. Wandering in, he heard what sounded like machinery, not unlike the technology of the black citadel. Though this sounded more…crude, as if it was hastily made out of old scrap and wooden logs. Breathing carefully he peered over the ledge and down into the pit where the priory had began their excavation. The cave was surprisingly well lit thanks to a massive hole in the wall that gave way to open sky and sunlight. Vulon noted the massive drill and set of gears as well as abandoned pickaxes and shovels. No doubt in his mind, the dredge were looking for artifacts just like the priory was, though Vulon doubted it was for the same reasons. Turning around he quickly exited the cavern-like structure and wasted no time in sprinting back towards the path that lead to the rendezvous point that he had agreed on.

Exhausted from running on all fours in the heavy snow, Vulon finally met his Priory contact at the cascade bridge. “Anything to report?” the asura asked dryly. “Your were right, the dredge are definitely continuing where you left off, they’re utilizing the site in order to excavate various dwarven artifacts” Vulon managed to say in-between breaths. Grunting in the typical asuran fashion of “Of course we were right” the asura turned to return to the priory. “Wait…what about the translation?” Vulon demanded, stopping immediately the asura sighed with impatience and quickly handed Vulon the tome as well as a small book bound with ruined leather. “Here, the book contains everything you need to translate it, judging by the language its Canthan in origin” the asura quickly said before turning around and continuing on his way back. Vulon wasn’t familiar with anything related to Cantha…he opened his mouth to ask more questions but stopped himself, the asura’s patience was already thin. Sighing heavily he decided that if he was ever going to get answers, he would need more than just a translation key. “Wait!” Vulon shouted at the priory researcher, the asura quickly turned around and with fists clenched glared at Vulon. “What now?” the priory researcher demanded. His contacts impatience was the last thing on Vulon’s mind as he finally came to a conclusion. “I want to join the Durmand Priory”

They seem to do their patches every two weeks now, with the next one being due on the 12th. So, if they were going to talk about it in the week before, that would be the coming week.

However, they’ve already said what they’re going to talk about next week, and it’s not the next big patch. So that puts the patch on the 26th, with them talking about it during the week of July 18-22.

Didn’t they mention that IF Season 3 comes this summer it would be closer to the end of the summer? What the hell are arena net doing? I can tell you what they aren’t doing, fixing bugs on their “ZOMG NEW PFRESSION!” yeah…Revenant has been broken in many areas since launch (hence why the few of us left refer to it as the “beta” profession) and we have had zero fixes…for all their talk about how PvP is a new priority and them pushing it, I find it pathetic that their solution for Revenants seems to be “Just play Glint/Shiro power build and you’ll be mostly ok” Ugh sorry back OT, yeah…don’t expect anything regarding news in July, hope that we see the start of season 3 mid-august

I don’t understand how rev is any more broken than other classes. At least it has more than 1 use. Every class has trait lines that are mostly useless, this is not something only the revenant suffers from. Rangers for example are now the second lowest dmg in the game, forcing people to either heal or switch classes if they are interested in raiding. The ranger as a class was a damage class originally and now they change the role entirely.

While dmg doesnt matter for 90% of the game, in raiding it does, and no one is going to take a dmg ranger in. Herald can tank, dps, utility and even heal a bit. And that is with just shiro and glint. They also have condi cleanse, stability for days, boon strip…yeah, rev is what needs fixed lol

Try playing a build other than Shiro and Glint and you run into major problems, they are the only two legends and trait lines worth anything, need I point you to the massive list of bugs that have not been fixed? As far as I’m aware, most major bugs on the other professions have been sorted out just fine

2-3 months between LS3 Chapters

in Living World

Personal feelings about this:

How is it that Raids get there own exclusive team that apparently does not interrupt all other content, yet Living Story has to make sacrifices for PvP?
Is the Living Story team and the PvP team the same team?

If there is going to be a two-three month gap between chapters each chapter better be the size of half an expansion worth of content. New maps, new armor, new weapons, new story, new achievements. These chapters better be HUGE in content.

Why such long gaps between chapters? What have the devs been working on the last few months if they need even MORE time between chapters?

Overall i am really disappointed.

I know this is a really old post but I have a theory, I have a feeling that the Raid was done LONG before HoT was announced and they just had to do some finishing touches before releasing it bit by bit, hence why they could release the raid in such a polished state while the rest of the game (for the most part) flailed

Oh yeah BTW, the bug I reported months ago is still there, its the one where Mallyx’s UI “black spikes” randomly change into neon colors when swapping maps, and no swapping legends doesn’t fix it, I have a theory that it has something to do with the “spikes” being not black, but translucent, either full or partly

Many non-raiders attitudes on the forums:

A bakery has my favourite cake in stock today. I buy it, eat it and am happy.

The bakery does not have your favourite cake in stock today. They will be in stock tomorrow. You are unhappy.

You tell the baker that they should stop making my favourite cakes and ONLY make your favourite cakes in an attempt to never make it go out of stock again. I disagree with you.

Is it not worse to nullify some people’s enjoyment to ensure that other people don’t have to wait a little while for their enjoyment? I think so, and am disgusted by the people advocating it, I’m glad Anet ignore them and are already working on a new raid.

Uh-huh, yeah except its not a “day” its like, 6 months, and ignoring that fact, nobody that is sane is saying that “arena-net should abandon raiding completely” what people are, justifiably, asking is, "wait a minute, so this “tiny” raid team can crank out this complex well designed content at a consistent rate, but the “bigger” Living World and general PvE team is having its segments abandoned and cancelled (Hello Dungeons and Legendary Weapons) and we still have no news regarding LS3" Yeah seeing the problem yet?

I absolutely agree with the sentiment that maybe the raid team should be moved to work on fractals, as those can be enjoyed by a much much broader chunk of the audience while raiding can take a sort of background thing, like it or not, Raiding, by design, is built to exclude the vast majority of the playerbase, and when that vast majority has been absolutely starved for content as of late, yeah people aren’t going to be too happy nor stick around (which btw they aren’t sticking around)

And to all moaners…could you please explain how spreading conspiracy theories about the raid team size will make GW2 better?

People (including me) aren’t kittened off because of the raids coming out consistently and being great, thats not a problem, thats awesome, the problem is its only good IF you are part of the very specific elite minority of players that actually do raid, and make no mistake, most GW2 players don’t raid, hell I’ve played the game semi-regularly for 3 years and have full ascended, and I don’t raid for several reasons, the problem is, raiding is the ONLY place that is getting consistent content updates, if your an average GW2 player that just wants Living Story or Fractals, yeah your kittened, unless arena-net adds a “practice” mode to raiding to let everyone manage to play it (something that tons of people are super angry about the idea of because…reasons) Raiding will never be enough to keep people playing GW2, and that can easily be evidenced by the massive drop in player retention since HoT

You are aware that the website for the expansion still has a whole new set of legendaries listed as a feature and still links to a now out of date article correct? I really hope that you aren’t this incompetent as to do this but continue to falsely advertise to people

As someone who has spent a great deal of time chasing after legendaries and looking forward to acquiring more in HoT this is incredibly disappointing. Just hoping in the not too distant future you can get a team working more effectively on legendary weapons again. Because for me and ALOT of my guild mates the new legendaries were a big deal.

Unfortunately thats never going to happen “Suspend development INDEFINITELY” AKA no new legendaries ever, can I also just point out how ridiculous this “quote” is? Yeah were going to create a world where there’s always something to do by completely cancelling one of the core reasons people keep playing the game! Logic…

Dissapointing? Try furious…I can’t believe you, don’t give me this PR speak garbage, you are ceasing development on a major part of the game, a part that mind you several people considered to be part of their purchase decision…now your just going to turn around and say “Oh yeah no more legendaries” Screw you guys…I can’t believe you would be this bloody stupid and unreasonable, and don’t give me that garbage about how you are “Focusing on LWS3” Living world is nice but legendaries are one of the main reasons people like me keep playing the game, I would suggest that you reverse this decision and think long and hard about being idiots in the future

Suggestion- Raid Difficulty Settings [Merged]

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: thewaterguy.4796

thewaterguy.4796

Absolutely agree, raid difficulty settings would do nothing but good for the game, and if you disagree with that, your doing so for selfish reasons: “I want to be part of a super exclusive group that only gets to see the story first hand” is a selfish reason to keep people from experiencing the story. And before you argue against me let me tear apart two “arguments”

1. “Oh but what if a game like dark souls added difficulty settings” Here’s the thing, Dark Souls or games like it are built on the premise of being super difficult games, GW2 IS NOT, we are not asking for free legendary armor or anything, we just want a way to see the story first hand without being forced to play for hours and hours at a time, and no watching a video on youtube is not the same as experiencing it for yourself

2. “People get most of the lore from 3rd parties anyway!” that argument actually reinforces my point, the reason they do so is because Arena-net is terrible at actually conveying their lore through the game, and even when they have good lore (in like raids) guess what? 95% of the playerbase can’t see it even if they wanted to. If you truly love the game and raids you would want people to have access to some of the best story and mechanics in the game right?

HoT needs to be nerfed

I would much rather not see Arena-net kill HoT’s difficulty and make it all face-roll content (We have plenty of that thanks) but when it comes to how hard it is to get into a good map meta-event or how difficult it is to actually obtain certain hero-points in the new maps…yeah I agree, I don’t think that they should nerf the open-world events to make them solo-able, (though I do think its not unfair to ask them to be doable with only 2-3 people) but when it comes to Hero Points I do think it should be nerfed, not necessarily soloable, but you should be able to comfortably do it with only 2-3 people

One more bug thats not on the list, I can’t confirm if all revs have it, but I can confirm some people do (talked to support about it) Mallyx’s “Black Spikes” on the UI tend to bug out and change various colors when swapping Maps

[Suggestion] Revenant Rework Document

thewaterguy.4796

I pretty much agree on all fronts ESPECIALLY Mallyx, I still don’t know why the devs felt the need to kill his super cool and unique necromancer corruption playstyle, I heard something about “oh we don’t want revs to get mad if they get their condi’s cleansed” but frankly thats BS to begin with considering tons of other skills and traits exist on other classes that have conditions benefit them and yet FOR SOME REASON the same rule doesn’t apply, and if that really is a concern I’ll say it until I’m blue in the face:

Embrace the Darkness - Added effect: Immune to condition cleansing

Also I do agree with the herald changes, the problem with herald is the fact that some of their skills are ridiculously OP (facet of nature) but others really need a buff or change, Arena-net seriously, just rebalance the rev based on this and I guarantee most of us will be much more happy

Throwing my hat in the ring as far as the “should elite specs be stronger” if you ask me yes I do think they should be “stronger” BUT I don’t think that they should be almost objectively stronger, I think running a non-elite spec should still be a viable thing, ESPECIALLY since we will likely be waiting a good few years to get another elite specialization, I get the “Oh in the future their will be new elite specs to choose from” but 1. That’s still not a valid excuse to have a core specialization build be not viable and 2. It could be years before we see a new expansion, and considering the devs CONFIRMED that elite specs only come with expansions…yeah

Great…I don’t necessarily know who Karl is, but considering the last “balance” patch I don’t have high hopes, I get the sword nerf I do think it was needed somewhat, what kittened me off was what WASN’T included, as in buffing, Ventari and Jalis, and you know…reworking Mallyx the Unyielding since you completely gutted his playstyle from the beta and then did very little to make up for it, also maybe consider taking another look at Shiro and Glint since, again, you kind of killed a few traits of theirs cough Radiant Revival cough

You can probably safely ignore alot of people telling you it’s not possible, I’ve practically solo built my guild hall and I can tell you its very possible, (even though I do play ALOT) as for guild missions one thing I can suggest is keep an eye out for a guild trek mission that is easy difficulty, if you have enough of the map completed these are very easy to obtain, its how I’ve gotten my favor anyway

Frankly its ridiculous, if you think its bad now wait until they add another raid wing…this is not a debate, arena-net NEEDS to include this functionality at some point, its annoying to non-raiders because it clutters open-world LFG and its annoying to raiders because they have more difficulty filling in the empty slots of their party…

Chapter 1: The Guardian that turned to Darkness

Time: 1324 AE

Vulon Warcaller moved carefully through the plains, it was still mid-day, the sun high in the sky, the yellow grass flowing calmly in the wind. “Remind me again how you talked me into this?” the low growl echoed from his right. “Lycus…you agreed that if I helped you with observing the flame legion discretely, you would help me investigate the catacombs” Vulon growled back at his younger brother. Lycus turned his head and muttered something under his breath, Vulon briefly considered asking if Lycus would prefer to just wait outside, but quickly reminded himself that entering the catacombs without backup would be suicide. As the pair of charr approached the entrance Vulon couldn’t help but think of all the potential discoveries they could make. Most charr only ever entered the catacombs to drive back the ghosts, but Vulon was determined to recover some artifacts he could look over. “If we die…I’m not going to be happy Vulon” Lycus said with what passed for a grin forming on his face, “Well, if we do, at least I won’t have to listen to your complaints anymore” Vulon responded with a chuckle as he quickly entered the catacombs before Lycus could respond.

The sunny grass and blue sky that characterized the Plains of Ashford slowly gave way to the cold and emptiness of the Ascalonian Catacombs as Vulon descended the staircase and entered the first chamber. He felt his fur bristle as he realized he wasn’t alone but quickly relaxed when he remembered Lycus. Without a word Vulon carefully placed one paw in front of the other has he felt the smooth stone that made up the floor. A burst of light blindsided Vulon as he shielded his eyes, “Sorry” Lycus quickly apologized as he dimmed the conjured flames. “Just be careful, we don’t want to cause…” A small click cut Vulon off as he stepped forward “Look out!” Lycus roared as the ceiling began to crumble, “Run for it!” Vulon managed to shout before the only known escape route was blocked off, “Vulon!” was all he could hear as he staggered backwards. The last thing he remembered was a large stone heading straight towards him.

After regaining conciousness Vulon rolled himself over and pressed his paws into the cold stone of the crypt. Lycus was nowhere to be seen, likely stuck on the other side of the cave-in. Getting up slowly he leaned against the rubble as a sharp pain rippled through his spine. After what felt like days the pain and confusion finally began to subside. Glancing around he managed to spot two paths, the first was buried in old stone that once served as the roof but with effort it was possible he could make a path the second was shrouded in darkness. Deciding that the second pathway would likely be the safest as shifting heavy rubble would more than likely attract unwanted attention. Vulon cautiously padded towards the dark pathway. Checking for traps or signs of the ghosts he carefully began walking through the unfamiliar passage. The hallway was not long, though progress was slow as Vulon was forced to avoid scraping his armor or weapons on the walls.

“Have you heard anything regarding the beast?” Vulon froze as he heard the echoing voice of a ghost. “The one that was found in the catacombs? Dead, Ascalon has nothing to worry about” the voices seemed to be coming from a nearby chamber. “Are you sure? I’ve seen what they are capable of…” moving carefully Vulon managed to spot the two glowing figures as he leaned around the corner, one appeared to be an ancient warrior, clad in traditional Ascalonian plate armor, the other wore simple but sturdy leather, likely a scout or perhaps a simple ranger. “I understand your concern, but I have been assured that the charr have not discovered any weakness in our defenses” the scout replied as he adjusted the longbow on his back, “Very well…I’ll return to the village and let them know…thank you” the warrior said with a salute before turning and running away, as the warrior disappeared into the darkness the scout began to fade away within moments they were gone.

Vulon stood for a moment, he had seen what the ghosts were capable of, but it was rare to remember they weren’t so different from his people once…shaking his head he emerged from his hiding place and stepped into the chamber where the specters once stood. The chamber was massive, great pillars of stone reached to a spherical roof covered in what appeared to once have been some type of ink. As his eyes adjusted he managed to make out what looked like graves, “Must’ve been some sort of burial chamber” he muttered to himself as he approached one of the tombs to examine it further. The cold feeling of stone was interrupted by a shifting of what sounded like paper beneath his paws, startled Vulon clambered backwards onto all fours and quickly glared at whatever caused the disturbance. “A book…” he growled as he berated himself for jumping at something so innocuous, upon closer inspection it appeared that the book had fallen from one of the rooms above, deciding it would be worth keeping in remembrance of his little expedition he turned and climbed up the partly ruined stairs of the main exit. Spotting the light of the sun as he made it to the top Vulon quickly sunk his claws into whatever crevices he could find and managed to clamber up a relatively steep boulder, as he reached through the gap he could feel the familiar grass of the plains on his paws, with a few more mighty heaves Vulon finally managed to escape the catacombs.“Last time I ever decide to go underground with only my brother” Vulon growled as he began to pad towards the black citadel, remembering the strange tome he had picked up Vulon quickly examined the odd scribblings. It was written in a strange language unfamiliar to him…with a heavy sigh he put the book away and began padding back towards the Black Citadel, as he walked he thought of who would be able to help him with his discovery, he wasn’t certain why, but the book intrigued him. Shaking his head, Vulon reminded himself that he should reunite with his brother before anything else…

UPDATE #3: Well, I’ve waited long enough, I’m going forward with Chapter 3

UPDATE #2: I’ve rewritten/cut a good chunk of chapter 1 so its more in line with chapter 2’s quality, hopefully it will be a much better reading experience
__________________________________________________________________
Ok so I thought I would make a fanfic for my main character, Vulon Ghostcaller, I will add “chapters” as I write them and hopefully this thread won’t get too cluttered, I may use this main post to keep people up to date if anyone is interested anyway some quick ground rules

This fanfic is written in such a way that Vulon Ghostcaller and any other players referenced could actually conceivably exist as real NPC’s in the games story or lore (at least as much as I can) as a result I have tried to stay consistent with established lore rules and in addition I will be avoiding the main events of the personal story/living story almost completely, to give an example, Vulon Ghostcaller is not the pact commander, he is merely a high ranking member of the pact, his warband is also not the same warband as the charr personal story

to give an in-context example, in the first chapter Vulon is on a mission with Lycus, Lycus is Vulon’s younger brother (and played by a friend of mine in game), this way I can avoid the personal story completely. Also even though Vulon is a revenant the actual lore on if Rytlock was the first is murky so to start out Vulon will be a guardian

Alright the next post will be the first chapter, if anyone has feedback don’t be afraid to message me!

Thanks

Character List:

Vulon Ghostcaller Vulon is currently a Charr Revenant, however this set of short stories follows him throughout his life and before becoming a revenant he was originally a guardian by the name of Vulon Warcaller. Vulon has always been fascinated by the ghosts of Ascalon (despite constant warnings from the higher-ups) and, though he would never admit it, does have sympathy for the specters despite everything. Vulon is generally rather calm (for a charr anyway) and is known to be to be a kind and compassionate warrior. This is reflected in his style of combat, as Vulon focuses on defense and slowly wearing his opponent down as opposed to the more direct approach.

Lycus BladeCaller

Lycus is Vulon’s younger brother, unlike Vulon, Lycus has a fascination with flame magic, especially the Flame Legion. Of course he has reservations about some of the Flame Legion’s more…extreme methods, but regardless he believes that magic is unfairly lambasted by the High Legions. Though he is perfectly capable of manipulating all four of the elements available to an Elementalist, he has always had a preference to fire. Lycus can be a bit of a hothead at times but, like his brother, is never afraid to step in to assist a friend or worthy cause.

I agree with the general sentiment of your post.

I’d personally like to see the following basic changes made.

Inspiring Reinforcement
Instant Stability, Stunbreaker.

Alternatively, completely rework the skill into a short burst AoE stability skill, perhaps a couple stacks for maybe 3 or 4 seconds.

Rite of the Great Dwarf
Remove stunbreaker and either make it instant/near-instant or increase the duration to 8s.

Honestly my two biggest gripes with Jalis are those skills.

Absolutely agree, those 2 skills desperately need help, I think either of our ideas would work to fix him
