I am very concerned about the change in loot parameters since the event patch.
As an example, I did several champions and a dozen events over a 3 hour period and the best piece of loot I received was a green torch with the vast majority being white junk items and a couple blues. Two of the champions failed to drop any loot at all which is completely opposite of the patch notes;
“The drop rarity of Rare and Exotic weapons from certain places in the world (champions, veterans, and players in WvW) has been increased. Rares and Exotics should be much more likely to drop and every champion should be guaranteed to drop loot. This was to ensure that world loot drops were not a significantly worse way of acquiring rare and exotic items than crafting and running dungeons.”
Perhaps it was an unintentional side effect to the adjustments made regardless this is my main concern;
This for the most part even goes directly against the comments made by Chris Whiteside’s latest response to the addition of ascended gear as quoted below;
“Ascended and infusion rewards will be available in both PvE and WvW over time, and be made available through all sorts of content around the world including existing content. As you know we care very much about your support and opinion and are listening intently to what you say.
Finally we look forward to hearing your thoughts on the upcoming content, and we will ensure we share our thoughts with you on the experiences we share in the Lost Shores."
Chris Whiteside – Studio Design Director”In the end I guess my question really boils down to this;
Is the downgrading in open world loot whether intended or accidental going to be re-adjusted so those of us who prefer open world content either solo duo or in whatever fashion can continue to remain competitive?
I’ve been experiencing this for about a month now actually. It started at the beginning of the month for me where I was getting about 4-5 rares a week that suddenly dropped to nothing. Then i played my low level toon I suddenly noticed all sorts of drops (who didn’t have mf on btw). I was getting dyes like crazy for about a week. Then suddenly they made a patch to take that away and make it harder to find dyes.
Ever since these three adjustments to loot I’ve gotten nothing in the way of rares, the last one dropped the rare drop rate to 0 for me entirely cutting off any horizontal progress (ie crafting).
I would like an answer to this as well. I’ve reported them as bugs, posted in this forum for over a week now, and asked for help from support on the subject. All to no avail.
Q: Please issue a statement on what you plan on doing about the horrible drop rates, the DR (since you can detect bots it’s no longer needed as a deterrent) , and how MF does not seem to work in open world drops any longer!
(edited by tigirius.9014)
I too would love to see some explanation on MF and why it still doesn’t work to this day.
It’s just ridiculous to have a stat and then not have it function at all in the game.
At this point it’s very obvious that two things need adjustment/removal. DR in open world, and MF.
MF should work on everything doesn’t matter if it’s a chest or not, it’s supposed to be a magical way of enhancing what you find so let it be just that. When game devs start messing with the drop rates of items that’s when you know something is wrong. There are hardly any bots in the game so they obviously have a working detection method for those bots and gold farmers so in essence they no longer need to keep DR in the open world and they no longer need to keep MF from functioning properly.
I petition them to fix these items before the next content release because they are gamebreaking.
My logins have dwindled since a month ago due to these two things not being addressed nor fixed in any capacity. You literally can’t progress horizontally if you can’t get the mats you need to craft your own set of armor or jewelry.
I’m sorry wha????!!! we’re the highest dps huh? Guess that explains why eles, warriors, and guardians can all three shot any Orr opponent while us engis are still blasting bombs or shooting pellets over and over ad nauseum.
Seriously take any engi without a kit, put them in the berserker gear and put them next to any weapon choice guard and warrior in Orr and see how much faster things die for the warrior and guard then they do for engis and THEN come back and tell me I’m wrong, because I can tell you right now, I’m not.
Anyone playing the game for five minutes will tell you this.
If the point is that your referring to the Manifesto, then I understand the point completely. First off the Manifesto only implies no grind (in context to the current dilemma of Ascended gear), and grind in itself is relative. But the community agrees that a gear treadmill is a grind. I think your missing the point.
Re-Read and be constructive.
It does more then that, it specifically states we would not be forced to play the game in a single pigeonholed manner.
Making this armor only available via fractals invalidates that claim and makes obsolete every craft discipline in the game. That’s just one of the ways they have backpedaled on their promises.
42 (GW2 3rd qt profit) million ain’t gonna cut it… Idk how much it cost to make GW2, but I bet it cost more than 50 mill on the low end.
It’s gonna take A LOT of cash shop purchases to turn a decent profit. I’m sure they’re not in it to make a 20 or 30% gain…. That’s barley interest on the loan..
I do think the stock drop was because of GW2. Lets be honest most people expected more sales than AION… At this rate B2P is a utter failure for publisher and gamer a like. Pub. doesn’t make money, gamer has no say.
By 1st qt 2013 GW2 will be NCsofts smallest earner. Expect a more aggressive cash shop sooner than later, and freemium model by June of next year.
The more aggressive cash shop in the form of converting gems into gold is already here.
They stealth nerfed drops, they stealth nerfed globs of ecto, they instituted a now unnecessary DR in the open world environment…all in the hopes of keeping people playing longer to get drops needed for their legendary grind.
In the process tho they hurt people’s ability to build whole exotic sets which means they are alienating new players. The gem to gold thing was a good idea for trying to keep gold farmers out but when the market is left to 100 gems = 47-50 silver it’s not worth spending RL money on.
They need to return the drop rates to what they were when the game first started, they need to fix the problems with MF and make it work with chests and they need to make only level 70+ items drop worldwide for level 80 players, not just in the two level 55+ zones. They also need to make infused armor have the same stats as exotics or release infused armors for crafting using the actual crafting disciplines that would return the balance to the game to the horizontal model they promised us this game would be.
Seriously? Accolytes aggro from half the map. They’re even worse underwater. No other mob type hates players so much. Y U HATE ME SO MUCH ACCOLYTES?! QQ.
This happens to my guildies even tho they tend to leave me be. I think it’s a bug or something not sure. We’ll be walking along and suddenly they notice the guardians eles more often then any of the rest of us even tho we are the same distance from the same mob. Weird.
D3 community anger was: company’s fault
GW2 community anger is: company’s fault
Pretty clear, isn’t itMaybe but maybe not..
Some just argue for the sake of arguing..
Some do it to make them feel better about themselves.
Some do it to feel like they are a part of something.Honestly, I for one dont care about which direction GW2 goes. Even though lot of you say its turning into another WoW clone its still an entirely different game.
The very reason we come here is to make sure that this game does NOT turn into a SWTOR or a WoW That’s why our posts have been negative of late.
And think about it would anyone post anything negative if we didn’t care about the game? NO we’d simply move on
I come here because I care about the games direction because I don’t want it’s future muddied by the gear treadmill gearscore dpsmeter croud like what happened in WoW. This game was never meant to be that and I will complain about it moving in that direction until they make changes to prevent the future updates from heading that way.
Besides, it’s clear in every profession forum, they have a ton of bugs they need to fix in every class before they add any new content in the near future.

This is my build right now. Lots of haste, on my armor i have superior of the ogre the summon dog helps distract alot.
when haste on my weapon is on cooldown i use the skill Elixir U I use the #2 ability for the first haste and the charr ability hidden pistol toolbelt when i use the U. I am traited for electrical shocks when i use toolbelt abilities. I use the immobilized traits in Orr because they do those pull backs etc. And while traveling on foot, I switch out my electrical ability to get the speed boost when kit is equiped for traveling and spam healing kit. The chill rune helps slow enemies at range, and I sometimes switch out goggles for bombs depending on the enemies.
works out well.
Tool Kit does deserve its Tier 3 spot, especially after the last patch.
The attack speed of Smack/Whack/Thwack are comparable to that of other professions’ Mace attacks. I don’t use that often myself, but it’s okay for situations that require melee.
Box of Nails stacks Bleed and Cripple.
Prybar is a nice clean damage skill with 3 stacks of Confusion.
Gear Shield is 3 seconds of Block. Read: Three (3) seconds where nearly nothing touches you.
Magnet? 1200 range pull? Got a runner? Pull, Box of Nails and Immobilise (Glue Shot or Net Shot). Got a greedy defender on the wall? Pull, Box of Nails, Immobilise. Got a mob to CC? Pull, Box of Nails, kill.
Throw Wrench? By itself, it does sizeable damage. Traited it applies Cripple to EVERYTHING in its path, forwards and back.
This gentlemen touches upon a point. The engineer can bounce around the weapons and weapon kits loudout very quickly; the toolkit on it’s own may seem dodgy, but if you start to think outside the 5 skills and what else you’ve got, you can really cause Fun.
Bleeds don’t do much even with Cond armor on i know i have it.
The block should have a secondary attack like the other classes with similar abilities, like when hit bam dazes or knocks back or multiple quick hits.
They need to bring bleed damage universally up to where burn damage is. Can’t tell me that stabbing someone in the back doesn’t make them lose more then 9% of their hitpoints…or more importantly shooting someone with explosive shrapnel bullets that pierce doesn’t do a crapton of damage….really isn’t balanced.
(edited by tigirius.9014)
No you’re not crazy, right now we are pigeonholed into using just regular weapons and weapon combos like pistol shield or p/p. My spec is a little different from yours.
I have burning on mine and bomb enhancements when in orr because of the large number of enemies on me at once while soloing (bombs are not good for events btw pistol has been the best imo so far).
My gear is all rampager with ogre runes. I use Elixir U goggles when fighting those that stun, and i switch out my bomb kit for the Charr racial hidden pistol when doing events. I have rage on my weapons so that it triggers haste. And while doing events i switch my “equip kit get speed” buff out for “electrical shock when using toolbelt”.
Until they fix the missing on the kits, make them scale or have them give us boons when equipped they are pretty much borked.
Pistol shield btw rocks in Lost Shores because those barbs kill the karka when i reflect them back at them I use elixir U toolbelt wall while the magnetic shield is on CD.
Zerkers without a doubt. Damage simply scales much better then any other stat.
Ruby exquisite jewels are also mathematically superior to any other option. place them in your trinkets, with no exceptions. (They seriously, need a nerf, or everything else buffed.)
Completely agree, bleed and poison hardly does anything anymore. They need to buff cond again something went wrong in the math the last time they nerfed it and it’s been useless ever since.
This post really isn’t to get under the nerves of the devs and really isn’t intended on starting a flame war I’m just a concerned player trying to find out a bit more information or understand exactly what they mean.
The post about the future upcoming changes could be a bit more specific or am I just missing something? Specifically:
“Adding more variation to creatures, enhancing our open world scaling system, as well as evolving many events and experiences across Tyria.”
“Fixing and improving existing content throughout the game, and better tying it into the overall sense of player progression within Guild Wars 2.”
did he mean fixing drops? fixing the gear gap to make it horizontal once more or making the rest of the dungeons drop the same gear or making a version of ascended without infusion available via open world?
I know it’s the holidays and people want to eat thanksgiving dinner with their families(in America I mean) so I’m not demanding an immediate explanation because that would be pointless and rude.
What i would request is better explanation on what they mean by scaling. and what they mean by improving the overall sense of player progression sometime next week
See you when you get back. Happy Turkey Day.

Okay first I find the title offensive because it’s not welfare when people who craft armors must first gather enough mats to level crafting before getting it to max before gathering enough end game rare mats to make an entire set for themselves. that’s NOT welfare, we earned making our gear just as much as any dungeon runner earns getting theirs via 500+ runs in their dungeon or raid.
Second, this game was never meant or designed for the gear treadmill. It’s not welfare when the original design was horizontal not vertical.
And finally, before this game came we were promised we would never have vertical progression in this game because it destroys whole gaming communities by having this as the standard for a game, that’s the sole reason why Infused armors are a problem.
Already I’ve seen posts requesting gearscore, dps meters, raids, another tier above infused….it’s getting worse not better.
And it’s getting officially worse. Not only did we see requests for gearscore, dps meters, higher tier armors above infused….
but now people are ACTUALLY trying to turn this game into a wow-centric 2004 title. Really? really?
This is what adding a second tier of armor with higher stats that’s only available in dungeons does to a game Anet. I hope you are paying attention.
Why did you put all those points in Invention? that really doesn’t have much synergy with the rest of the build. Move 20 points to firearms and 10 to explosives. I think you would be far better off.
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-V70;2Z;0h0k5cQkw0;9;49T-T-4;0568;119A;14;5CoF2CoF26gK
Is this a better build AND is it a solid one?
20% burning doesnt do anything at all…Suggest increase firing range~
I agree 20% burning only helps if you are pistols, it doesn’t work well as rifle. I use rifle U occasionally (I actually have a build where I can successfully switch between builds easily without spending any money.)
I switch between Rifle U CC ram net turret, shield pistol burns U toolbelt shocks with hidden pistol (Charr) and ram/goggles depending on what I’m fighting, and bombs wider explosives bigger with burns speed and vigor with rocket boots and goggles for stuns I switch between the potion for healing and the healing turret before a fight when expecting melee or ranged.
Just depends on your play style.
One of the best things about this game imo, I can have multiple builds for the same role but with different fighting styles and without buying a respec every time i want a change to mix things up.
(edited by tigirius.9014)
Personally I was thinking that the pow/tough/vit armor would prolly work best in here in a support role with the spec for it in traits to enhance your healing.
An engi with things like regen with kit, kits produce a spell etc usually lasts longer. you can combine the spell effect from equipping the EG kit and the #5 to combine thehealing of the two AOE fields. I find that most useful. I did this while fighting the fire champion in the mountain the other day and worked out great I was hit by his AOE but didn’t drop while in these fields because they instahealed me to half and kept the ticks to get up to 3/4.
Think they might have actually made healing viable again.
If it’s a melee thief I saw while looking for builds a pretty good speedy engi build with bombs. it was pistol shield with enhanced bombs, with speed on equipping a kit, speed on crit, and vigor when speedy pretty much gives you an almost endless speed boost. It had a cc like ram or rocket boots, it had bigger explosions with more damage, longer burn times, and it had the elixir U so you can do hasted bombs if they come near. This setup seemed to have the best escape options. (I think they used the potion for healing on 6).
If a charr I would personally suggest (as I’ve used this in PVE) the hidden pistol as it has a jump back and you can use the U on it when thieves are doing ranged to you to kill them quickly all at once with the toolbelt spell while this is equipped. The bombs kit would ensure if they got close they would still take damage as far as i know. (I’ve used that on jaguars and skale and it seems to work even while they are invis)
Vertical implies a power progression, it’s that simple.
Having to grind out upgraded gear to take on new game content is vertical progression. It’s that simple.
It’s actually slightly more binding then that since they introduced not just a vertical progression but bound us to a single play style to get these armor pieces so it’s a double whammy.
I’m having serious issues farming anything anymore. I’ve posted here. I’ve reported it as a bug (about two weeks ago). I wrote to the support team. I thought they would be fixing many of the things that many players who play like I do need fixing concerning drops.
In the past month I’ve gotten 4 rares from drops. Just used the black lion trading post salvage kits on those the other day, got 0 gossamer cloth, got 0 globs of ecto.
How can we be seriously told that there isn’t a thing wrong with these in game functions when the first month of playing this game Rares dropped about 4 times a week for me and when i started farming for globs i would get at least one glob out of every single salvage of a rare?
How can you seriously tell me that drop rates are working properly when half my guild is suffering from this same problem?
MF is completely useless as a tool even for drops from regular mobs.
And I don’t care what anyone says there’s definitely a DR happening in open world because I’ll be getting things like blood and claws off mobs and then after the 8th one, suddenly it turns into grey skulls and used tissue paper. REALLY?
When I watched your manifesto I seriously thought your dev team actually got the problems faced by gatheres crafters explorers like me, that’s what attracted me to your game was that i could go around and gather the things i needed even for end game armor and gear without stepping foot in a single dungeon. Ever since about a month ago, something has changed dramatically in this game making it almost impossible to gather the items needed to get even the exotic gear and Anet is not addressing this issue.
For example, this last patch was supposed to increase the drop quality off of champions and veterans. I have yet to see a single drop from these types of enemies beyond a grey or a blue.
I was told basically in my support message that I was SOL, thems the breaks, good luck. If my luck rune was working properly do you think I’d be here complaining?
If that is your idea of a better drop rate this game is in serious trouble. I’m not finished getting my gear yet (exotic) and I was so hoping this kind of nonsense wouldn’t infultrate this title before I had the chance of even having fun with the design of your original manifesto but I can see now that the short term is the only thing that’s important apparently.
Sincerely,
Highly Disappointed Customer.
(edited by tigirius.9014)
im sick of all this kitten on these forums. if you guys feel like your grinding or being forced to do something then don’t do it. the premise is really simple. Play the game for fun. have fun with the game. when you stop having fun take a break. you aren’t being forced to farm/grind or whatever else you want to call it. it’s not required to do anything in the game. so just remember it’s a game, have fun. if your not having fun, take a break. you already bought the game and it will be here when you’re ready to have fun again.
Well for one thing, if you were paying attention you would know that the complaints weren’t about grinding, they are all about forcing a single gameplay style, making crafting obsolete and useless, making all the material that we need to craft even the infused runes drop solely in a single dungeon, and breaking their word (manifesto).
GW2 players don’t mind the grind as evidenced by the large number of people buying this game to farm mats to craft, farm karma to buy gear. People don’t mind running dungeons as an OPTION either. It’s when it’s the ONLY option that it becomes a problem.
That’s the issue. Not that they added a new tier (because there was a gap).
The issues are :
1: broke their promise that attracted most of us (manifesto) by forcing us to have a single gameplay style making obsolete all of the other gear and events thru-out the world of Tyria.
2: didn’t keep this new gear a horizontal progression by even adding bought with karma or discovered gear crafting recipes for this new tier (not talking the infusions I’m talking about the actual armor)
3: made it so that the drops are all RNG drops, solely making this one dungeon the only gameplay for progression.
4: made it impossible to get the drops to complete a set of exotic much less an infused runes. (haven’t had a single shell drop off a karka since the event) they didn’t even make the drops off vets and champs better like they said they would.
5: changed the games focus to this new grind so now no one can get enough people to run the older dungeons or clear out open world events like those in Orr.
They’ve broken crafting entirely.
Not to make any part of the gear (which to my knowledge we can solely make the Infused runes at the moment not the gear itself). The mystic toilet will most likely be where they add the recipes to because heaven forbid we actually have a use of something that took so much work to max out to 400.
None of the crafting professions that people raced to get to 400 matter anymore.
To further disrupt crafting entirely even that of exotic gear, they severely reduced the drop rates of globs of ecto, rare items, and they still have yet to make the veterans and champions drop better loot. Add to this the severe bugs with magic find that makes mf as a buff completely useless in game and crafting might as well be removed from the title altogether.
It’s no exaggeration.
Anet broke off the relationship. You’re hurt. Confused. You want to know what happened, what went wrong. Like any relationship gone bad, does it really matter in the end? Just time to move on……they have, and so should you.
You never move on without communicating what went wrong in the relationship, EVER.
That’s what we’re doing.
Sad tho that the other party isn’t communication as to why it was done or what they plan on doing in the future, because in this case it is Anet that wishes to keep players (us) so if they want us to come back, even if it’s for a makeup, they’ll have to prove to us they can be trusted again after this fiasco.
It does make sense in that sense. They are biting the hand that feeds them tho, because people will get fed up and leave since they threw their manifesto over a cliff.
People take the integrity of their game designers seriously, this won’t be forgiven so easily or forgotten. All over the net we’re already seeing people posting that this company can’t keep their word, that they’ve broken their game, and turned it into a gear treadmill(this time it’s not a troll post either there’s evidence to back it up).
Sad really. I thought this game would be my new home for years to come but if that’s all they are interested in is getting the five-minutes-till-the-next-shiny crowd this isn’t why i bought this game.
Y and Z might be fake but the rest of that is exactly what I see in map chat now too.
Dungeon finder is SO NOT the problem with this.
If you think Dungeon Finder is the issue in this guys post you are not able to see the entire picture.
LOL they so didn’t give us what they want they took it away.
Drops are almost nil thanks to DR/MF/no promised drop quality increase in Vets and Champs, glaring problems for every class that have yet to be fixed, we already had a gear grind they didn’t need to make it vertical, vertical so does NOT equal better, no crafted versions of this tier so balance the game back to the horizontal progression we were told we’d have in the manifesto, not enough people to do the Orr events anymore because everyone is doing this single dungeon now.
See the problems, it’s definitely not an exaggeration nor is it as simple as adding a new tier of armor. It affects everything.
Hi,
First off, I this is not a post for or against arenanet. It is not meant to be derogatory, trolling, or attacking. With the recent patch, the overwhelming bugs and lag, the overwhelming negative feedback and response to Ascended gear, Fractal levels, Legendary handouts, with the underwhelming response that has been provided from arenanet to address our concerns… Do you think Arenanet, as a development studio, has the resources(financially, personnel, infrastructure, creativity, skill) to maintain/support/appease the game and the playerbase? Does it have its “virtual finger” on the pulse of the community, providing what we want, in accordance to what they think is best for the game?
I will not add my own opinion just yet. Just starting a discussion.
In other words, concerning all aspects of developing and maintaining an MMO, do you think Arenanet is up to the challenge?
Moderator edit: removed CoC infraction from thread title
I don’t think they did their homework before starting this trend of a gear treadmill or limiting the gameplay to just one dungeon for progression.
Every other game that’s used this same model has failed in the past year or so. It’s obvious without seeing a graph why people left other titles that had alot bigger budgets.
The community they are trying to appeal to with this new gear treadmill, higher tier vertical progression is the same community that over the past two years has bounced from one title to the next never staying for very long in any one title. They are basically inviting financial suicide before this game is even one year old by inviting these types of players to the game.
Those of us who are casual who stick with games for years who aren’t taken in by shinies and who spend money on companies based solely on if they provide good quality fun, aren’t the target for this new patch.
I predict that they’ll have to adjust the gear to match the current Exotics, release crafting recipes so people can make the infused armors, adjust the drop rates of items to actually be able to make those items and make them available open world and by then it might be too late. You see when you make promises to the gaming community and then you do a complete 180 people don’t forget or forgive that in this community. They may have damaged their reputation beyond repair with this one.
They have yet to finish repairing the glaring problems the adventurer classes have had to endure and the loot issues, adding this as a new project will only further alienate their original playerbase and when those players who are only interested in new shinies are gone, there won’t be enough left to keep the game going.
(edited by tigirius.9014)
None of the above. I fall into the category of the most common mmo player, the pve only player that’s not worried about gear every second that plays games for the people I meet, the lore, the open world events, the exploration, the secrets, the gathering. I do this for relaxation.
I don’t pvp I hate pvp, I don’t generally dungeon run unless it’s to see something i’ve not seen before, I don’t worry about gear unless I can’t even get the tier 6 by the common means one could get them like buying the runes or crafting a set. which is the case right now, one can’t get the exotic sets due to some serious problems with the loot system.
I really cant see why anyone would bother with Guildwars 2 treadmill when WoW treadmill works better…
You’ve got to be joking.
In WoW, not only do you have grind and RNG, you get to top it off with a Raid Leader, Guild Master, Loot Council, or Ninja Looter that determines whether you even get a chance at the gear. It’s dreadful.
GW2 is miles ahead of WoW in this respect and so many others.
Actually he has a point. WoW treadmill items are at least innovative with what effects the armor sets do.
Not $180 a year innovative effects.
That’s IF you even get it after the RNG, Raid Leader, Guild Master, Loot Council, and Ninja Looter have had their first shot at it. Let’s not forget you only get this lovely chance at a chance once a week.
You have to be a masochist to play that game.
There’s a reason that GW2’s popularity is soaring.Yeah, soaring. So much so this forum is singing it with praise. So much so that there’s still 10 million subscribers in WoW.
I actually wasn’t thinking of the wow thing as evidence of it not soaring I was actually thinking of all the times so far that I haven’t been able ot get enough people to do the older (yes even tho it’s been a month they are now old content) dungeons and how Orr is basically a ghost town now.
From my perspective, the style of World of Warcraft is kind of like the minor leagues of gaming. There is a lot of competition and everyone is competing to be the best. The pinnacle is to get to the big leagues which is raiding. It’s content that not everyone will see or be a part of and only the best of the best get there and the best rewards goes to those who get there. I played wow for years and was burned out and treated poorly by other players because I didn’t have what it takes to get there. This style fits for some people, and I understand the appeal, it’s just not for me.
The style of Guild Wars is more like the movie Sandlot. You play hard but no one is keeping score and stats don’t matter much. Everyone gets their time at bat and you play not to reach some goal but just because it’s fun. Guild wars had this niche and a lot of people got this game because it wasn’t like wow and it felt like home to me.
But things are changing to try to cater to a bigger audience but it’s a huge mistake because it’s not possible to make both styles happy. GW2 is moving towards wow light and GW2 is going to be second rate because wow does this style better. There is going to be those that want the wow style of always progressing and reaching for the next best thing so that they can be the best and be a step above everyone else. Once they reach the top it will not be enough because sooner or later it will not be exclusive enough. Those that don’t play the rat race will be left behind sitting the bench. You already split the community and whatever you decide to do now…it will not end well.
They aren’t actually catering to a bigger audience.
They were catering to the larger audience with their manifesto intact.
The reason why WoW has enjoyed such a large community and the reason why people have stuck with that title for so long isn’t due to the people who run dungeons to gain max gear only to run off to the next shiny the moment it’s released it’s due to people like me who are casual gamers who aren’t worried about gear every moment (not top i mean) who play the game for enjoyment of the sights and sounds and for the rewards of getting to play with friends to do a common goal. (also I’m a big gathcraftsplorer)
Every statistic shows that this particular audience that Anet is trying to attract NEVER stays for long, they leave at the intro of a new game title or any other shiny they see.
They don’t last and any money one gains from this audience only lasts for a short time.
It’s happened to every game released this year. I cannot believe someone at Anet thought this was a good idea even monetarily with such a large history of this endless exodus occurring in so many titles three of which were this year.
Someone didn’t do their homework before releasing the gear treadmill aspect of this patch.
Max stat gear shouldn’t be easy to obtain however that’s not what the problem is.
Right now Exotics aren’t easy to obtain. They’ve nerfed everything to the point where no one can effectively get what they need to even go into this one single dungeon.
DR, MF, nerfed drops and nerfed globs all = impossible to build armor sets. They might as well throw out crafting entirely.
Add to this the insult to the community of acting like there’s nothing wrong with them expecting us to be okay with a new tier of armor, or expecting we should be okay with them adding a dungeon only progression, or requiring that we run this dungeon to get an RNG drop of any kind, or how about that there is no craftable armor pieces from this tier of armor like we were promised there would be by their manifesto.
new tier can’t be crafted even tho we were told the game would not be vertical
new runes require we go into dungeon for mats
new tier only drops via RNG, not currency.
the new system is definitely not their manifesto, not their original plan for the game, and breaking the promises to the community for the 1% that don’t stay in a game long enough to actually make a lasting impression is both illogical and destructive to any game title or has everyone forgotten what happened to SWTOR already?
I totally agree with people saying that A-NET didn’t entirely followed their initial manifesto,
The only reason people play high-end PvE is grind, when you can easily get what you want there is no point to continue playing.
Actually the majority of players are casual players, we’ve seen my type of player start to game in mmo’s some years ago. Anyone worth their salt in statistics will tell you that we the casuals became interested in these games some years ago and came on the scene not for the gear grind but for the exploration of worlds, the lore, and the RP.
So you definitely do not speak for me or for the majority of the people who bought Anet’s game because of the promises of the manifesto.
That being said. They have done a 180 on their manifesto in three ways.
1: nerfing farming for crafting (DR, severely reduced rare drops, severely reduced globs, mf doesn’t work)
2: no improved drops from vets/champs, despite their claims that this is improved I have yet to get anything other then a white or grey from these larger monsters.
3: exotics and dungeons and open world events all old content now. nothing is more frustrating to not get enough people to take the camps in Orr.
These are the reasons why this community is so angry. It’s not as simple as adding a single tier of armor to a game it’s all of the other things they did prior and during to make it impossible to play.
Casuals were promised we would have a game that would have closer to horizontal progression, horizontal in this case means that all armors and weapon tiers are available via crafting. (even legendaries can be made)
Basically, how would you feel if you spent all this time farming for mats for your legendary item (assume legendary was just a regular item for this example) and then they suddenly cut off your ability to get those mats, made it so there was a new tier of item that made your legendary useless, and made it so that you could no longer craft the new tier and the only place to even get mats if they were to add this new tier to crafting is in this dungeon forcing you to play in a single way instead of having a choice?
That’s what’s happening with this game right now when it comes to farming for exotics people just can’t seem to get the mats they need and infused armors cannot be crafted and if they were to be almost all of the mats only seem to drop in the dungeons (for the items we can craft right now).
Do you see why we’re angry now?
(edited by tigirius.9014)
99% of the game is the same to how it was 1 week ago.
1% of the game has now caused upset.
It literally makes no sense. You can choose not to get the new gear, or wait until it is available via different means. Everyone has chosen to spam the forums instead.
Good work guys.
You have those figures backwards, here I’ll fix it.
99% of the game is now a gear treadmill. And here’s how.
Crafting is now obsolete. With their stealth nerf to drops, their stealth nerf to MF, their stealth nerf to globs one cannot effectively gather the mats needed to craft end game items. Now mats to make even the new infused runes can only be found in this single dungeon and no recipes to make armor pieces exist. They promised us they would in the spirit of horizontal progression. Watch the menifesto.
Crafting is dead.
With karma nerfed now, one cannot effectively gather enough to get the sets one needs to armor mains let alone alts without a huge grind. This new armor set is the only thing people are now interested in, so we can’t find enough people to actually form large enough groups to do Orr anymore to even buy them if we got enough karma after weeks of farming the few events that do exist.
Karma is dead.
The armor pieces for this set not only cannot be purchased after running a few runs, but are ALL RNG, a system everyone knows does not work and that has been left behind by soooo many other devs in mmo’s everywhere for it’s horrible system.
So I’m not sure which game you are playing, but GW2 is nothing like it was and the only thing that most of us CAN do is tell Anet why they might not see us in the coming weeks on their game until these game breaking concepts are fixed or removed. It’s no exaggeration when it’s true and factual.
As a previous WoW player, I would go at times to read their General forums it was in fact a deterrent against ever wanting to go play that game, I would then come back to the GW2 forums, read the civilized and constructive posts and how everyone was for the most part happy with the game. It was great…
Now in a single weekend, that has all changed. 200+ thread filled with hate and animosity against Anet, people claiming Bait and Switch, A complete change of Guild Wars mechanics at its core..now…WoW not looking so bad anymore, because I see things over there that I know, classes I understand, mechanics I know..and I know where Blizzard stands on gear and grinding. I know Raids = best gear, Dailies = Grind, Dungeon Finder meaning I can skip questing…
Guild Wars…not sure what to expect anymore..and after bringing several friends from WoW to Guild Wars…I am afraid I may have done them a disservice.
It is a disservice in that they’ve thrown the manifesto right off a cliff. I dunno if they have new management over there or what but it’s so not exciting to see a new tier of armor when there were soooooo many problems with getting the original tier 6.
Drops off mobs being stealth nerfed, globs being stealth nerfed, diminished returns in open world. It’s ridiculous to even login now.
It’s like someone over there said…..“yeah, you know that original design you were working on, throw that out, we’re going to make our game like everyone else’s.”
It’s like I’m living in the twilight zone or something.
At the moment, the Ascended Tier is really pissing me off.
So I’m ignoring it.
I have no aspirations to attain it, no will to farm for it.
I’m just going to play the game like I was a week ago.
And if (or when) people start demanding I wear ascended gear, I just won’t play with them. And if everything I enjoy doing requires ascended gear, I’ll just stop playing all together.
MAYBE if (or when) it becomes easier to obtain AND ANet admits to their mistake and declares this is the final additional tier, I’ll be alright.
Until then…nope, not worrying about it. Right now, it’s the only thing that pisses me off.
Completely agree! However they’ll have to do one more thing if they wish to salvage what is left of their reputation.
They’ll have to remove open world DR, fix MF so it works on drops from critters and chests properly, expand the infusion gear to crafting, and make the important drops that make ascended gear drop in open world.
This game was never meant to be a dungeon only gear treadmill and turning it into one even for 1 tier of armor is a slap in the face to their community.
As far as i understand – noone forces you to do the achievements. I play for 1-2 hours a day if i have time, so you can call me pretty casual – and i am not stressing as much about not being able to complete everything.
Not everything should be designed for casuals ONLY.
Watch the manifesto, this game was originally for casuals, not for dungeoneers.
Secondly, making the monthly require this dungeon for the monthly is the same slap in the face they gave crafters by making the important expensive mats only drop in the dungeons.
Completely opposite of their manifesto and completely against their main player base.
Guys you cant have it one way or another. You complained about the weapon skins not dropping enough and this time, the skins are alot more common.
The extra rare items, such as the hats and minis are not meant to be easy to get also…
- Consortium Chest (Mystic Forge): [3x skin from consortium chest] + [passion fruit] + [karka shell] + [passion flower]
Sorry, but I am on Arenanet’s side this time, this is alot more better than last time.
Uhm the skins only drop in the dungeon or from bought chests from what I’ve seen. My entire guild has confirmed 0 drops anywhere else.
This combined with the chests only being made by having mats that are only available from chests is better how exactly?
Sorry but they need to remove whatever they stealth placed in a patch a month ago that reduced both the drops needed for exotics the chance to get ectos and they need to improve the quality of the items from chests before I ever buy one.
Anet killed all farming. The price of Ectos is going nowhere but up. No one is finding large amounts of rares to break down into Ecto.
I really don’t care what they claimed they did, but the drops are not better at all, maybe worse.
I’m running a full MF setup with sigils, food and banners. Vets and Champions everywhere are dropping absolutely NOTHING. I mean nothing.
Likewise with other normal mobs around any map.
Ive tried all of Orr, Frostgorge and Fireheart thus far and its the same thing everywhere. Mats and blue items.
Why the hell would Anet nerf this game into the ground? I mean W T F are these people thinking? Do they honestly believe this is good for the game?
I’m going to give it another week for them to get their heads outta the dirt and do something to improve this game instead of releasing poor bugged out one time events.
Hey Anet want to know how to make money? Its a 4 letter word. BUFF!
P. S. Anywhere you see porous bones dropping at a high rate has been stealth nerfed or has been nerfed in the past to reduce drops. Move on from these areas as you will find nothing.
The EXACT same thing is happening to me. It took a whole month of farming for me to get four rares above level 70, I used the BLTC salvage kits NONE of them gave me an ecto…this is absolutely unacceptable.
And what happened to vets/champs dropping better items, hmm? where’d that go?
nope got to agree with the devs on this one. greed is ugly in any reality.
I hope they increase the rare drops next and make it possible to always get at least 1 ecto per rare salvage because it gets out of hand when you limit these items too much. I’m a farmer as well but I don’t farm for raw mats to be sold i make things from them for myself for my guildies. Please keep increasing the drop rates and make MF affect chest contents.
the rates are entirely too low. It’s a waste of RL money imo right now. It’s never where it should be.
It might not be a nerf but there’s definitely something happening. The last four rares i salvaged had 0 Ectos and I was using the black lion store salvage kits. There’s an equally needed response for the lack of drops off of mobs with magic find gear on because those Rares took an entire month to get in open world. It’s ridiculous to try to farm for the mats needed for the crafted sets anymore.
All I’m saying is something is wrong. Those of us who are gathcraftsplorers should not be penalized for our gameplay style when this game was originally supposed to allow for farming.
It is just a question to the public. I am not going to take sides here.
I am interested in your opinions.
If they intended to keep the gear treadmill out of this game as they promised in their manifesto, YES.
All tiers of armor as well as all materials to make such goods were supposed to be available outside of any dungeon in the open world so as to facilitate multiple gameplay styles.
Completely agree. Definitely a concern.
This is exactly why the community at large has been so against this vertical progression thru dungeon only runs since the start. This and making normally packed open world zones almost 1/3 their normal occupancy if not a ghost town.
Seen it already. People aren’t even returning to Orr to recapture camps anymore.
Its supposed to be hard, the drop tables are better.
Not from where I’m sitting. I don’t care what anyone says it’s not bad luck to get greys and blues 100% of the time, that’s statistically impossible and that’s what’s happened to me ever since a month ago.
I’ve gotten three rares from drops since they made a drop rate change a month ago, I have MF gear runes guild buffs food buffs and luck rune all that are supposed to be affecting the drop rate off of mobs. Doesn’t happen. I don’t even get the normal material drops from mobs anymore. They might as well take drops off of world creatures out of the game entirely for all the good it does me.
But we’ll go a year and I’ll never get a response as to why MF never works. If nov 16th is any indication of the direction this game is headed in that’s what I expect will happen.
Notably, they sortof admitted there was a problem by making drops fall off of critters in 55+ zones tho I have yet to see that occur.
We were even supposed to receive better loot from vets/ champs but didn’t see that happen either.
Let’s recap:
New gear that has higher stats then the previous one.
New content that makes the open world content old after only two months.
Gear only available via RNG in dungeons, only runes are crafted.
Almost all of the resources needed to make the runes come from this one dungeon.
Dungeon currency used for the upgrades that don’t drop in the dungeon.
How is this against the manifesto?:
Gear is now vertical not cosmetic.
Required to play only in a single way, dungeon crawling.
Stats on gear has become the new focus, whether intended or not.
New gear is not available for crafting as promised all gear would have an equivolent craft set for horizontal progression.
I’d say it’s definitely NOT our imaginations, definitely NOT an exaggeration, and definitely NOT irrational concerns. As customers we should be concerned for where a product that we’ve invested time and money into is heading.
the number of participants for DE’s is now starting to dwindle due to the only viable new advancement being the vertical progression from dungeon runs.
Here’s how.
Just logged in and found about 22 people in Orr trying to take back the Arah door.
Apparently people were complaining because there aren’t enough people to take back the door. People aren’t coming to Orr anymore because the higher tier armor with the better stats are all now solely in a single dungeon so that’s the content people are playing.
Seems adding vertical progression to a horizontal progression game has dire consequences. Wonder how long this will go on until A: Anet is forced to make the DE’s weaker and easier for smaller groups to do in open world areas like Orr or B: Anet is forced to remove the higher stats on the gear in the dungeons so that there are more people in open world environments to complete the DE’s.
If anyone was wondering why there was such an enormous outcry against this sort of thing being added to a title like this it wasn’t just because it went against the manifesto, it’s because it has many consequences none of which are positive and all of which will require extra time and resources to try to balance so that the rest of the game can be played normally.
By adding better armor to a dungeon and making that the only means by which people will want to progress, they’ve officially made Orr “older content” thus making it less popular and fewer people will bother since they have better rewards from the Fractals.
Despite the manifesto I suppose the new focus is on dungeon only progression.
Even tho I am absolutely against pigeonholing people into a single progression type or playstyle, here’s a suggestion.
The types of dungeons we would all like to see are puzzle dungeons and no i don’t mean jump puzzle. I mean old fashioned, trap filled, magic filled, dungeons that have dangers of not just monsters but also hidden passages, hidden objects, hidden rooms, you know secrets.
Help bring back the good ole days of dungeon crawling by making all future dungeons follow the ADnD style model.
You can still make them random like Fractals. That would eliminate the zerg style dungeons that people are complaining about.
Thanks but there should be better drops allround after 11/15/2012 we should have seen MF affect everything on Vets/ Champs/ and chests.
And the focus wasn’t supposed to be on dungeons in this title dungeons were supposed to be a fun side ride.
It’s near impossible for me to find a group for Fractals level 4.
I almost had a group… but then someone had to leave and the group disintegrated.
I’ve also happened into overflows just as a group filled up.
This is incredibly frustrating and ridiculous, as I expected it would be. I mean, there’s no dungeon finder… and hardly anyone wants to do a lower level.
Think that’s bad try getting a large enough group together in Orr to free up the camps. Orr lasted a month and a half with their new vertical manifesto because technically now it’s considered older content. Try getting a group together for any dungeon other then Fractals and see what happens HA!
Magic Find is worthless. Nothing changes.
If base magic find is say, 10%, then adding 100% more would place you at 20%. You should see double the drops.
Just doesn’t happen.
Completely agree. And with this new patch we didn’t even see the drops increase on more difficult mobs like vets champs.
