I’m wondering if my excitement for this title was misplaced as well.
These aren’t just bad luck or being in the wrong place at the wrong time. There’s no such thing as a completely random loot table algorithm, people suggesting that really don’t know the inner workings of mathematics in their current state. Mathematically, we have been unable to produce an equation that is completely randomized and they definitely do not use such algorithms in games like these, so when it comes to loot there is always a manipulation of +-. Anyone who says otherwise doesn’t know what they are talking about.
Secondly, their silence is either on purpose because they know they did something wrong, on purpose because they made a huge boo boo in manipulating the loot tables and don’t want to confirm it for the public with an apology, or on purpose because they did it to actually make people buy more gold directly from them with the gems. All three are wrong, we need an answer so we can get it resolved and ignoring it won’t make it go away. It’s far too wide spread a problem. My husband hasn’t seen a single unid dye since they made this change and all he gets are whites while leveling his ranger.
And finally, why is it that we can’t get word on what’s happening with the glaring problems in classes like Engineers for example? I follow the devs forums all the time and have seen nothing regarding engineer bugs misses and kit’s underpowered issues at all.
0 communication makes us all think you don’t care for the concerns of your customers.
I would like this aswell. It makes about as much sense for it to pass thru enemies as it does to throw 12 grenades before something dies or fire 30 bullets before it dies or how the cone effects of both FT/EG suddenly stop hitting anything just because the player’s point of view changes even tho the toon turns to hit the enemy or to throw mines down only to have enemies dance all over them not setting a single one off.
My two favorite arguments against common sense returning to the engineering class are:
“what do you know you don’t develop games”
and
“it’s a fantasy game it shouldn’t make sense at all”
people who say that do not play an engineer.
If any of you watch Walking Dead, how much of a change to the show would you see if they had to contend on their weapons with what engineers have to work with? How long would the fight scenes be if they too had to shoot 24-30 bullets to stop just one zombie?
(edited by tigirius.9014)
OP has a point. In fact he has lots of good points.
You look at how much it takes to kill something in the game on an engi with all these supposedly deadly weapons and kits and go, wth? like 14-17 grenades per kill (what are they really fire crackers?) or 10-13 bullets from each pistol encounter. The bullet thing is even worse for the thief then it is for us, can you imagine firing 30 bullets at a zombie in the walking dead, what that might be like?
Sounds like OP needs more Tankcat… http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=0pfO5s9pi0c
The irony of the OP is that with all his “World Experience” and feigned experience / imagination, he hasn’t been able to make it work.
The fact is there are plenty of people who are amazing at engineer. It’s not the class. It’s you that doesn’t get it.
Pick a different class. And never bring your “military experience” into a gaming forum. It’s meaningless.
Tried tankcat for pve purposes was NOT impressed really. Spent most of my time trying not to die against orrians. sigh.
Yep they do seem to be weaker then before, which amazes me.
Can’t imagine why anyone would think that it should take a total of 23 grenades to kill something but 4 harpoon missiles will do the job normally.
The whole concept behind the engineer is off right now really.
6-7 bullets per kill with rifle, 9-10 bullets from pistol, covered enemies with flames and chemicals and they just grin at you and keep swinging like you didn’t do anything, and then there’s the shotgun blast, that would normally shoot limbs off if it were RL but makes them have a tiny boo boo with hardly any bleeding that a single bandaid would fix.
It’s getting ridiculous now. Really it is, it’s now to the point that two out of the three classes I like to play are unplayable in pve. smh
So would you say I’d better off with harpoon now?
Yeah harpoon actually works well now. It amazed me at first. I knew they said they fixed the entire underwater experience for us but didn’t think it was that good until i accidently didn’t switch.
I was one of the first people to complain when they didn’t touch a thing on land this last patch but I think they did an awesome job with the harpoon gun now. mini sub torpedos are a sight to behold. (aww isn’t it cute it has a smiley face on the side just before BAM) LOL
Why can’t we have this utility? I used to love to use my invis skill on the other game i played that had one and then parachute down while invis to prevent mobs from aggroing to me. That would be awesome!
They have flying boats why not have parachutes, or do they just post signs up on their boat walls saying , don’t fall, like that’s going to prevent deaths from people falling off the edge of the ships.
Parachute would certainly make much more sense then the “come here and find me” bombs flying everywhere approach of the engineer right now.
It actually is dead for pve as well because of the same issues man.
Sad to think that it’s perfectly fine for bullets to do huge chunks of damage on the warrior but make them coated so they pierce or explode or cause bleeding and their “gasp” somehow op! omg remove them quick! why does it take 10-14 bullets to kill something and why is it thought of as perfectly normal for it to take 14-20 grenades to kill something? seriously.
Tigirius:
I added a couple of your mentions to the list. However, a lot of the things you listed seem more like suggestions or issues you have with design.
Didn’t see you add fumigate missing, mines missing or being spread too far apart to hit enemies, or poison barbs missing as problems on your list. Those aren’t design problems they are bugs because they almost always happen and are part of the series of problems that cause gameplay to not be fun on this profession.
But I just woke up and have cotten in my eye atm i may have missed something.
Actually anet has acknowledged it and have stated fixes in upcoming patches.
I do hope so because until recently I wasn’t targeting things behind the mobs that were on top of me nor was I targeting things that are out of range entirely.
I see, I’m just scared the game dies out. Hope Arena Net can do something or know of something to do
I am too man. It’s ridiculous the glaring problems that haven’t been fixed. All we can do tho is hope for the best when the next patch arrives which i believe is Dec 14th.
Saturday night, temples are all on lockdown AGAIN waited all week to get my last pieces still can’t. Not enough people in the zone to complete them.
So sitting around on Karma again, most likely another week will go by before I see anyone in the zone to actually do these temples so I can buy my stuff.
I do hope a fix is coming soon.
happened to me tonight again.
The thing is as a thief I can steal a stealth ability. My own stealths kept me in combat but the one that doesn’t is the one I steal from enemies??? cmon.
Ya its kind of hard to get excited about anything they say, they have a record of slow turn around. Not to mention when are they getting around to the ton of bugs? I’m actually at this point more interested in bug fixes, minor tweaks, and a DR reduction <- talked about adjustment 1-2 months ago. Still nothing.
Exactly what I was thinking while reading that. The entire interview was a hole buncha pr mess imo.
They didn’t touch on a single thing that is a concern for the community not one.
No bug fixes, no loot issues, nothing.
What did I just get for completing the Blazeridge Steppes map?
Green onions? Now I’ve already completed the Chef profession and I can truly say that the entire time i was leveling it on my already level 80 Charr engineer I never once needed Green Onions to gain experience. That and why in the world would I want Green Onions as a reward for completing a map when the entirety of Tyria has some kind of onion or onion like plant growing on it? LOL
Give me something like vanilla beans please, something rare.
Absolutely! I want it too and for the catches to not be limited to just fish!
A better option would to be remove dungeons and pvp altogether actually. Monthly’s shouldn’t be used as a means to force people to play a specific way of any kind this was supposed to be a game of choices.
I too would like an official word. And if they aren’t considered rarer mats (even tho the world drops say otherwise) then why don’t they drop off items salvaged with the BLC kits? That’s all I use because I’m generally getting globs from rares or exotics i find. (what has been bone dry for weeks now).
I’d love to know why using a Fine or Masterwork or even a Mystic kit never produces Powerful anything from items I get from the field like level 68-80 masterwork items? It would simplify trying to get these materials for crafters everywhere if this actually worked. It’s never worked for me so I’ve been selling my greens and blues.
It shouldn’t be actually it should be enhanced honestly (for pve) because there are soooo many things missing from this class it’s not funny.
Thieves are capable of so much more.
It’s sad that a game mechanic is messing with people in pvp.
I play the game as a gathcraftsplorer and would like people’s thoughts on pve only builds that give a good balance of escape options while not nerfing me entirely.
Before I actually started using my thief to kill any mobs in Orr I made her all escape options defenses and healing.
I would like to use dual pistols (even tho i know they are nerfed beyond belief right now) I haven’t used a shortbow on my thief since a month ago, is that viable now or is that still slow as molasses dripping on a cold day? or should I be doing something else?
I’ve got a serker set made and ready with the citadel runes (only ones i could afford at the time) and ruby mithril jewelry.
Thanks all!
Poison shots on pistols miss targets at random anyway even with high scores for pow/prec. It should really fire in a straight line like unloading does.
Elixir guns fumigate misses targets like the FT does.
the smaller explosion radius for bombs and grenades makes them miss anything that’s not within 2 feet of one another.
pistols #1 shot fires as slowly as the rifle #1 shot but does half the damage the rifle shots do.
Mines miss entirely even when larger mobs are practically doing the salsa all over them, they fall too far apart and the mines that spread at 25% health spread too far and miss just as much.
The regeneration trait when a kit is equipped isn’t affected by the + to healing scores on gear and should scale with gear. (120 hitpoints every 2 seconds isn’t much to work with and it’s healing you as if you are a level 40 character.)
Electricity attacks from the toolbelt do not always activate with the activation of Elixir U toolbelt walls as well as some of the turret abilities like the extra net. Hidden pistol the Charr racial waits until the very end of all of the shots fired before releasing the electrical shock, by then the enemy most likely usually dies before being hit by the shock the the shock goes into the ground uselessly.
The engineer only effect of hidden pistol for Charr is not affected by the pistols pierce trait. Their shots are single target only despite this ability being a toolbelt engineer only power.
Yep they do seem to be weaker then before, which amazes me.
Can’t imagine why anyone would think that it should take a total of 23 grenades to kill something but 4 harpoon missiles will do the job normally.

I partially agree. I assume the monsters are tougher because they drop loot more abundantly (I get way more T6 mats in Southsun than I do in Orr or Frostgorge). With that said, the Young Karka machine gun thing needs to be toned down (right now I pretty much HAVE to run a weapon set with an interrupt. I get killed by that ability alone if I don’t have an interrupt or endurance, it’s a bit too much). The vet/champ Karka’s also need to have their damage reflect toned down.
That’s funny because i get 0 i haven’t seen a shell since the event not 1. and I have mf armor food luck boon that gets me to about 226%. Glad you’re one of the 5% of players that are getting drops tho.
Completely agree with OP tho, they do entirely too much damage.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Change-in-loot-parameters-or-a-bug-Merged
It’s worse then just the dyes when they put in this patch to change the loot ratio it made the horrible drop rate they started a month ago even worse. Now nothing really drops in open world most of the time. Tons of people having the same issues. Just look at the TP prices.
Well I’ve managed to get to 80, got myself a rare set (after selling all my rare mats) and now I’m done.
I’m an open world PvE junkie and I love me my grinds. I’m at my happiest just wombling around whacking creatures with my hammer and stealing their goodies. Now Anet has decided I’m not allowed to play that way so I’m out till they sort their kitten out.
I’m the kind of guy that has a decent disposable income and I am willing to blow my hard earned on Gems just to support a good product and I game I want to play. GW2 has become neither of those things.
I said in a earlier post that I wont be nickle and dimed and I meant it. I’ll keep an eye on the forumsto see if Anet owns up to the stealth nerf and fixes some of the Bugs and balance problems that have plagued GW2 since release. As of now this game goes on the “Fail” pile along with WAR, DCUO, Swtor and D3
To all those still playing and holding in there I wish you all the best of luck
Thanks for posting. I too play the way you do, it’s sad that those of us with the wanderlust are punished this way. Hopefully we’ll get an answer or a patch soon or both.
just finished farming Orr for omnoms and Ori out of the entire zone the whole hour i was there, everything was taken over by the enemy accept for two spots.
It’s really not just the dungeon, going to Orr for some classes is just way too troublesome.
There’s an issue that’s just started this week where the mobs teleport away when i go stealth, they don’t walk slowly, they don’t turn around, and even tho they have a hold on them they poof to their leash location instantly when i used the blinding powder.
Completely unplayable because even if i make it over there on time to backstab I cannot position myself effectively. to get any bonuses from positioning.
It’s highly irritating. Between this and the miss miss miss miss miss miss miss on my FT/EG this game is unplayable for two of my three professions.
A blunderbus is not a shotgun. While I will concede that it is a precursor of one, it is not the same thing. Also those skins are very undetailed and crude looking. Is it wrong to want a nice shotgun skin? Am I the only one who has thought to want one?
Dual barrels would be nice i agree /nod
All professions have trash traits that not a single one of the million plus players will ever, ever use more than once or twice for laughs. It’s part of a time-honored RPG tradition of having some tempting, but underpowered choices, so that you feel like you’ve accomplished something by discovering the better ones.
The point of this thread is they shouldn’t.
There are also glaring issues with some, like putting “explosions heal” in the weirdest place ever on the traits? Why isn’t that under alchemy? and why is it a tier 3 ability??? Have you seen how little each grenade heals? Grenade kits don’t scale remember so they heal that tiny amount no matter how much + to heal you get.
It’s things like that that the OP is talking about. Why put these choices in there if they are mostly useless.
It’s like the 5% damage with daggers thing. Really? when will anyone ever choose that one.
Meanwhile there are glaring problems like the adventurer classes all universally not having a stability buff they can use and move at the same time. Go ahead check. I play all three none of them have it. So how are we supposed to do some of the jump puzzles that absolutely must have it? How are we supposed to efficiently resist this type of attack? say like in Orr for example where EVERYTHING uses pulls knockdowns knockbacks ?
(edited by tigirius.9014)
While he does have a point like having to use skills to run faster while exploring being tedius and don’t mess with high level animals or they’ll bash your face in! (uhm why does a doe do so much more damage then a raptor?) This is a very old review.
Secondly, while the personal story isn’t extremely exciting, most of us didnt buy the game for that. so meh.
The grind thing, now that they manipulated the drop rates to make it impossible to get anything outside ofa dungeon is spot on. (before they disguised it well but now it’s just blatant and not fun at all)
If ever they figure out what they did or restore the original drop rates of armor rares globs and crafting mats, this game would be less of a pain. Can’t imagine why there’s a delay really.
I propose that the majority of negativity is due to the “honeymoon” effect wearing off.
People now begin to see the faults and flaws of the game; and have to realize that the good things are still there but were just overweighted when the game first came out.
But that’s no excuse for them to treat others badly. I always said the internet brings out peoples true colors cause if they did this to a person in real life they would get the crap kicked out of them. So they do it over the internet where they know 99% of the time they can get away with it. IMO I don’t think it has anything to do with the honeymoon effect of the game. I truly believe they are just heartless people.
It’s really not the honeymoon thing. Those of us complaining the loudest are the types of players who don’t worry about gear every minute (altho getting exotics the original way was very nice and appreciated) we were complaining the loudest because we knew the types of players this dungeon only mentality would bring into the game. It was like that to a smaller degree before, but now it’s getting ugly and it’s harming the community.
While running around, i get my mf up (96 when i start before everything) and I start to get the luck buff charging, while charging i see a burst of mats for a second, like blues a greens then when i reach 196 before food I don’t see a thing. Then when i add the food buff suddenly I get a couple of greens, then it halts entirely without the guild buffs or the store bought buff pushing me over the 250% threshold I don’t see anything with mf. It’s ridiculous. I can only imagine what people without mf are getting.
Not only did that thread consist of 5 people (4 if not counting the moderator), but half the posts were for fotm, which is exactly what this issue isnt about.
Not only is this not just some tiny number of people this is happening to, but fotm being the sole method of gathering mats for anything is a big part of the problem especially when globs are now at 36 silver each.
Mats are needed to craft and make money after crafting to teleport. No one is in Orr anymore to even buy the karma gear because they’re all in fotm or to get the temples back, and all of the drops seem to be focused in the dungeons only (the only one anyone is actually interested in is fotm) so yeah I’d say that’s a big problem.
When was the last time you got something other then a grey off of a champion or veteran?
Orr is crazy but I think they didn’t take into account that the fractals would take over entire servers so they definitely need to fix some things there.
Since fractals that’s all i see as well.
Its kind of like Stealth, except you can still see the thief, he is just mirrored in the background, and you can’t target him, but you can still see him.
This boon is affected by “Boon Duration” and all stealth traits, but its a weaker form of stealth.
When your hiding you are harder to see, but you can still be heard walking and you can still be seen. (kind of like predator, you just mirror the background.)
Sortof like the camoflauge of another title I totally get what you mean. It would be awesome for pve imo.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/thief/Thief-from-the-nostalgic-old-school-RPG-POV
They are missing many of the things that make a thief a thief imo especially from an old school dice roller pov.
So I been watching my p/p videos to see what am I doing wrong then it hit me. Pistol has only one skill in the no 1 skill. Well that sounds a bit confusing so let me explain. If you are using daggers and you use the number 1 skill you get 3 types of strikes same with the sword. So why not give it to the pistols as well?
Let me know what you guys think of this and if you like this idea of mine or is it crap
Actually makes alot of sense part of the problem also is the pistol shot shoots as slow as rifles. you have two pistols why aren’t they both firing in sequence? bang bang …see? I just don’t get the way they slowed down these attacks made them do half damage of rifles and expected that to be perfectly fine. Same goes for the #1 ability of engineer pistols.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/thief/Thief-from-the-nostalgic-old-school-RPG-POV
some of the things I wanted on mine in the future. mace is one of the weapons i wish we had, would be nice to interrupt pve mobs before they could cast their stealth or their big knockback attack.
no real stealing
The problem with this is that uneven drops are a mechanic that’s 1% roleplaying/“immersion” and 99% farming.
You are talking like if the Tigirius was requesting to steal legendaries
![]()
I think that he meant something like an occasional junk (grey) items, maybe some coppers if you´re lucky
Probably with some chance to fail and draw aggo on yourself.
yeah that’s exactly what i mean actually like getting extra baggies with some mats for crafting or something in them nothing big. definitely not rares or legendaries. And as far as rares or anything go no. I was thinking tho that it might help with the daily costs of teleporting especially since I use my thief exclusively to farm. Just more fun to run around on her because of her speed and escape options in pve.
Also the sap would start combat yes, but we’d be able to use it without having a left over sap occassionally from some mob we stole it from. see my thing, we shouldn’t have to steal a bone to smack someone dizzy.
much rather see maces on thieves so we can have a distraction or sap of some kind to keep enemies from casting. would be nice to be able to sap in stealth as well.
/bump to receive word and allow others to see this to add to it.
Hello!
What are guilds really for in PVE? I’ve been playing this game since it came out, and i took part in 3 guilds. I don’t see any benefit at all to be part of one except for the fact of getting the guild bonuses.
In other games such as Rift, I relied on my guild members 1000% more to join dungeons and do quests. I don’t feel the need to rely on them for anything in this game.
What do you think?
Apparently they are only there for % to mf to get you up to the % you need to actually get a single drop in an entire day of farming. OR to get 100 gold together so you can actually clear out some of the required zones for 100%
Why can’t there be stalves with moving parts of like gears grinding on the end, or stalves that don’t look like stalves like a broomstick (I mean an actual weapon and not some holiday thing, no one can convince me they didn’t have witches), or stalves with glowing crystals at the end and not that same old weird starter skin i see everywhere even off exotics.
Suggested this some time ago. people laughed. I still dunno why they laughed. Does it really take 7 years of a game being out to have simple things like this one in there? Why is it that they can do guesting for everything else but open world and why is it that the tech for guesting doesn’t automatically fill up to a certain percentage the slots available in a zone so it’s not exactly overflow but you are seeing people there.
So you have like 50% crit and have 10% extra crit damage.
Way to make 40% of that crit worthless in the long run without 200% damage crits.
High Crit -> AT LEAST 50% extra crit damage or precision gets scaled down in the long run direct damage calculation.
Long Run Damage = P * (1 + C * (0.5 + D)
P = Power
C = crit rate (%)
D = crit damage (%)I don’t mind that ANet included this tradeoff, which does not exist in other MMOs I’ve played (they just hold your hand and give you 200% damage crits nowadays or at the very least had a mandatory talent you had to take back in the day if you wanted to even think about doing top tier DPS) because I know how to do math, but I sadface whenever I read about all these builds that stack might, power and lots of precision and blah blah blah while totally neglecting their crit damage modifier, which (obviously) modifies crit, which modifies power, which is further modified by might.
It’s like being 2’ tall as a teenager and thinking you can grow enough in the time you have to be a 6’6" professional basketball player. It just ain’t going to happen.
If you are going to DPS, get your crits to 200% damage or go home.
I noticed this as well, the other thing that bothers me greatly is they want people to play a balanced game but then nerf the hell out of some of the classes while leaving others untouched. The classes they nerf are those that need extra damage to survive who need to kill fast because they have no defense even with extra toughness. (ahem all of the adventurer classes and mesmers.)
So they make it impossible to play anything other then glass cannons because if you do than fighting a single mob becomes a long drawn out 8 hour shift per mob because you can’t do enough damage even with crits to kill anything effectively. Whatever happened to having high enough crits and doing enough prep before attacking to take something out in three shots?
Oh wait I forgot only two classes can do that now and they both wear heavy armor. Right.
(talking from a pve standpoint because I hate pvp of all kinds.)
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Change-in-loot-parameters-or-a-bug-Merged
It’s becoming a serious problem. They keep messing around with it and making it even more nerfed and they’ll have a mass exodus away from this title very quickly. People don’t like to be manipulated for whatever the intentions.
I just hope they clear this up correctly and soon.
I second and third and fourth this motion, if it’s truly a game of choices at no time ever shoud pve players ever be ever forced to ever go into a pvp zones for anything, ever.
Which makes me wonder why they require dungeon runs to complete a monthly.
the number 1 problem is people rushing through the content and not enjoying the journey.
That would have been a good one buuuuuut here it is a whole month later after people posted this and the thing they added is something that’s breaking up the community and causing issues with gameplay. So yeah that’s no longer the issue the issue is they haven’t added a single new meta even since launch which we were told those would be the focus of the new content in the future. How dead is the new island? That’s my point. Had one main event and there’s like three events on this island and nothing drops from anything.
How ridiculous is it to not have gotten a single shell to drop off of a Karka.
why are some people saying the drop rate for orr events have jumped way up while others are saying it’s way down?
I have no idea, I’ve had weeks of it being way down. You can have a bad day or even a bad couple of days but whole weeks, that’s when something is definitely wrong here.
