more importantly tho I would love to know when they plan on removing DR entirely now that they have control over the bots.
Right now the forceful explosives has a bug that causes it to have a tinier explosive radius then not having it equipped so I’d be careful with this (and yes it’s been tested and reported).
Also the video is from september 21st. Not very recent.
Stated this in another forum, but it needs to be here. Serious imbalance when it comes to engineers and the two classes that can three shot and the 2 classes that can 1 shot.
When did it become normal to fire off 25-30 bullets at an enemy that a two handed warrior or guardian can kill in three hits?
When did it become acceptable for 30 grenades to be thrown at an enemy and NOT die (not a vet or champ mind you) and still be beating on you when one of these one shot classes run by and pwn them?
Why is it considered absolutely correct for only two classes in the game to be allowed to one shot anything or anyone?
Imbalance is not right, it shouldn’t be there and if you are giving one shot abilities to those two classes you need to spread it around.
Why is it the most militant of classes can’t one shot anything when we specialize in firearms, explosives, napalm, chemical weapons, and high voltage electricity?
wow! You see lodestones drop? I myself have never ever ever EVER seen a Charged lodestone drop for me EVER, and I have farmed the sparks, I have done Coe xplor many times, and never ever Charged lodestones. only once did I get a charged core.
And I have 120% magic find, I dont know how people can reach 250%
Very carefully. That’s okay tho man I run with 226% most of the time and I don’t even get any to drop either.
It amazes me people think that it’s perfectly normal to spend months on a game trying to get a certain drop to occur with a mechanic that’s supposed to help this happen and have it not drop 100% of the time. That’s impossible unless A: it’s by design B: there’s something wrong. Randomness does not occur like this so to those who keep throwing the RNG argument out there please stop.
As far as the OP’s argument.
As an engineer I absolutely agree with you and here’s why.
When did it become normal to fire off 25-30 bullets at an enemy that a two handed warrior or guardian can kill in three hits?

Guild Wars 2 is a brand new game its been out 3 months and a few days. I see some people starting threads to create controversy etc. All games specially MMO’s take time to sort out bugs, balancing etc. I know its not perfect but look at Guild Wars .. it took time there too. I see so many whining and complaining. This game is magnificent in so many ways so if you don’t like it why are you playing it ?? and most of all why are you here on this forum trying to stir up a hornets nest thats not there. Games are there to have fun so find the good in this one and have fun and if you can’t maybe find a new game.
While I get what you’re saying and yes WoW took about 1.5 years to sort out the issues in it.
Not all the threads created are for contraversy there are plenty here that are real issues that affect end game. (which most of us have reached by now)
I reached end game rather quickly despite trying to take my time and do the things I like to do rather then what most do to rush thru the game.
Most of the problems are end game oriented and only start after you ding level 80 and they are pretty big glaring issues.
Engineering alone hasn’t had it’s bugs fixed since Launch. So when you see people complaining we aren’t all just complaining to complain we are letting the devs know their customers are not happy and why.
If I had known they would churn out vertical progression I would never have bothered.
If I had known they would drop the drop rates to nothing at level 80 I would have never bothered bought the game.
If I had known they would make the game dungeon focused I would have never bought the game.

when ten people who have aggro try to come rez someone and they bring the thirty mobs they were fighting with them so 100 AOE’s explode around the person they are trying to Rez and kills them again before they can do anything.
Yeah It’s not something I would worry about personally and trust me I am the loudest person here when it comes to corporate mishaps or manipulations, they didn’t do anything extraordinary with this deal. If it brings in new people that’s good, I wouldn’t personally go after trying to get this for free honestly.
I dont find it that strange, since a real longbow, shoots slower then a non longbow, plus its slow, and hit hard, compared to the shortbow, that has a fast attack, but deals less dmg/shot:)
Please don’t bring reality into a fantasy game, no one in reality can fire a short bow that fast and just to note a short bow has just as much penetrating power IRL as a longbow but a longbow has the range, it is all dependent on the type of bow and importantly the arrow used. They also have almost identical fire rates in the hands of a skilled user.
But none of this matters because it is a game and only takes the smallest amount of real life logic it needs for us to be able to relate.
People CAN fire bows that fast! Archery has been misunderstood for years http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zGnxeSbb3g
Thank you and if we are going based on reality here, then the tiny bit of damage the #1 shot does on the longbow would definitely NOT account for the sheer speed of the arrow and thus the sheer damage that arrow would inflict that shooting so slowly would normally induce. It’s supposed to be a higher damage ratio it doesn’t come close imo.
Then again we are talking also about how two classes pistols shoot as slowly as rifles perhaps they need the help of some firearms and explosives experts to give them some perspective on just what should do what damage when. Because as an engineer, I find they have a long list of problems when it comes to how much damage is practical when it comes to weapons of war.

So I got two drops from vets since the last patch and then nothing. I got one blue yesterday. What in the world is going on over there in HQ? really. I don’t get it. At no time should there ever be anything below a green from a vet and certainly not from a champion. Do you others agree on this? And Why aren’t there any fixes to chests exactly why can’t they be affected by mf? it seems more and more each day that they really do want us to spend all our money on gold. That’s pay 2 win and not very honest.
I put on my thief’s suit again to see if the drops would improve, they didn’t they dropped down to blues only meanwhile the level 37 ranger is getting 50% greens with not a drop of MF on him.
So not only has there been no MF fix it seems that max level characters are being penalized for being max level.
I have yet to see this thing go off, Either its at the enemy, or is it at the player (the AOE field) how many targets does it affect, how much does it heal, does it stack with +healing?
I’ll answer your question in both the way you intended and the way I thought it meant.
No. My favorite class hasn’t changed in that I do not have a new favorite class.
Yes. My favorite class has changed in that they haven’t fixed any of the on land abilities or balanced the pve damage ratios leaving it broken and difficult to play. (condition damage nerf)
:)
he does have some points tho i was disappointed with what he thought should be the sole focus of fixing the pve system. Right now I’d say getting the bugs worked out of the classes and balancing them in pve (because they broke many of them in order to balance pvp about two months ago) should be the focus. Second should be making the servers link together in lower level and high level zones. and third should be making the ascended armor available via karma vendors outside of dungeons. Those three would completely fix most of the pve problems we’re seeing.
(edited by tigirius.9014)
I thought wow look at this looks kool way to go for having a different combat style. but when you look at the practical uses there are places that you can’t use the biggest damaging attack on this weapon because you’ll fly off the edge of high places behind you so it’s basically useless. Can we get the option to turn this off or make it a quick roll back a couple of feet or something?
Could we please make it so that enemies can be knocked off of high places? it’s kind of unfair that they can do that to us but we can’t to them. Using guardian mace or using engis big ol bomb doesn’t knock them off there’s an invisible wall for them. Fair is fair.
Especially for classes that don’t have access for a stability ability without using an elite like Charr engineers.
so does anyone else find it odd that long bows #1 attack doesn’t shoot more then 1 arrow even tho this class is supposed to be the most agile with a bow?
or that the #1 shots are soooooooo slow making the only reason that anyone would ever equip this weapon the #5 ability? It’s sad that a weapon is so useless that it only has 1 use.
Absolutely would love this. It would make things so much easier then using a kit for melee.
I’ve not noticed it. I’m not sure if they work at all atm I’ve tried power shoes and if its like everything else right now (all the broken traits) I can say that it’s prolly not working because I’m still slowed while in Orr and being attacked (and not from a debuff but from the general slowing that occurs when in combat).
yep requested this some time ago to make it more along the lines of the ability that the #5 pistol ability for thieves would do, people poo pooed the idea because they thought HA haha they actually thought haha cough that engineers are OP.
Yeah I’d love to see that as well I really would doesn’t make sense for us to make a smoke cloud that goes out 1 second later like we’re continuously surrounded by a constant strong breeze while using it.
puffintoast
Well said! The apologists would have us all believe it’s our imagination, that the perception of the drop rate manipulation is nothing more then a halucination, but the overall math speaks for itself, when so many people suddenly stop receiving drops of any kind en masse, and they communicate this, there’s something tangibly wrong or insidiously perpetuated for greed. Either way it needs immediate repair.
When you see a plant or tree that looks like one of the realistic looking ones in game and immediately (in real life) want to go harvest it.
does he mean starter zone?
Or does he mean level 25+ and if he does mean 25+ then is he playing a warrior because if so that would explain a few things about his post.
If you are level 80 and you are a crafter gatherer then that’s all there is is a grind I know OP because drops are outrageously low.
But who needs to grind right when you can spend $50 in the gem store……
Attended twice
looted
mailed
no precursor/nothing my alts could use (again I know it’s supposed to appear that it’s random but what are the chances of not recieving something that all three adventurer classes can equip?)
(edited by tigirius.9014)
I personally can’t get mf to do anything until i reach at least 250% i get the t5 materials to drop but nothing else occurs until it’s really really high. I never get rares with this armor on at all! I never get exotics with this armor on at all especially when fighting vets and champs including the most recent patch series.
Then DR sets in.
They really need to take limits out of the party sizes entirely and change the group events to scale down as well as up (requiring 5 per group event is the same as requiring people to be in a specific party size for dungeons)
Adventurers in these fantasy worlds would definitely NOT be standing around saying “Do we got five people yet?” “No bob come back in an hour when so n so shows up” “oh alright!”
Why in the world would that still be used as a mechanic in a game that’s supposed to be breaking the use of tradition limitations or mechanics in mmo’s ??? Make these monsters have a base set of scores for one person to fight them and then let those scale the more people that get involved.
Make dungeons the same way. You have the tech already it shouldn’t be that difficult.
Why did these get removed from vendors again? even region ones?
I’ve looked over the list of things that oranges are made with and don’t see any game breaking things that could have lead to this decision….
Now I have to figure out where bags of booty are located to see if I can get any to make the fruit salad.
Oh and the TP has 2 right now in case anyone suggests that.
what’s stopping you from making condition armor and slotting in MF jewel or crest in it? Unless you want to have both stats maxed up to crazy levels OFC.
Not that I wouldn’t love the idea of making stuff with exact stats I would need like toughness/MF/crit for example.
How about not seeing a single bonus to drops until reaching above 250% mf. That’s whats stopping me.
I’m specced for cond damage on engi right now and nope, nothing.
So I couldn’t help but notice that my kits work so much better in water then they do on land. Last major patch we saw them working exclusively on water combat. Other then the explosives radius problem with bombs and grenades right now, I am wondering if the dps output for the underwater attacks will be soon translated to the land. I am hopeful if they are because they actually seem to work properly underwater.
I love that my shots are faster on my EG that fumigate does not miss that the swings with my toolkit actually do significant damage (almost got 4k with my prybar) that the dps from the box o’ parahna’s is actually what bleeding should look like on land, that dropping bombs actually happens much faster with a much lower wait time before they explode.
Please Anet let what you did with the kits underwater be what you do with them on land so this class’s problems can finally be fixed en masse!
Completely agree OP. Warriors have even managed to shake off the nerf stick. It’s amazing they’ve created a profession that’s even managed to shake off the devs now.
When an engineer complains about the issues with their class and how imbalanced it is to shoot 30 bullets into a warrior and STILL see him coming or throw 30 grenades and still not kill that Orr mob and see a warrior run by and thump them in three hits we’re called unreasonable and whiny, but here it is still happening since launch. I can only imagine what it’s like in pvp.
Apparently only two classes can successfully do a 1 shot and neither of them have grenades, flame throwers, bombs, explosives, or electric tasers, Yeah that’s balanced.
I was quite surprised by this! Thanks Anet!
I’m not going to complain about not getting a precursor because of three things.
- I’m an engineer wouldn’t do me much good to have a flower child pistol and a guardian shield
- I don’t think those should’ve been in there anyways but that’s just me. I’m happy with what I did get, even tho I can’t use the items they did have some superior runes in them and I can use the globs more.
- I’m more interested in the long haul like making ascended a horizontal progression (crafting, karma)
So in essence I am happy about getting this chest.
Thanks again!
I would love tot see some things from ADnD but that’s not one of them.
Things like elite skills one must go do a specific set of tasks to achieve to earn (not just pay with points) Tome of magic Priest Quest Spells or miscelaneous items seen in the ADnD world brought to life. They do some things already like the potions that change shape. What use is that in combat. I’m thinking things like the everbountiful soup kettle that places soup out for people to eat in the party and gain some buffs. Or the
eyeglass of spying giving players the ability to see far away, tell me that wouldnt come in handy for WvW, or how about a back piece that is a modified tapestry of disease warding that shortens poison durations by 50%. Things like that would be a fantastic addition to the game.
Or the points for skills…what do you do with them once geared and you aren’t working on legendaries?
I think we need a system much like a game I used to play called attunement, where we add minor bonuses to different aspects of gameplay. Like 2-5 points per item in this list of bonuses. The list of things was nice, like 3% run speed bonus, increases falling height before damage is taken, increases damage to a particular family of creatures by 1%, a minor increase in stats like a +1 (not all stats just one at a time), an increase in resistance (toughness).
I am just saying that it’s a great system and they should look more into one of the aspects of what made the elephant in the room so popular is adaptation. a system like this would help broaden what’s available to accomplish end game.
I am a bit more realistic tho, I don’t expect them to do anything like these systems overnight, possibly over the next year or so would be fun.
(edited by tigirius.9014)
Or just allow Kits to be buffed by base stats of the weapons like ele conjured weapons.
But here is the down side to that
Ele weapons are temporary Kits are permanent
yes I just argued with my self and lose
Also note that if they did give you a legendary back piece so would everyone else. You would then be in the same spot as you are now.
they could make it class specific you know.
Anyway that’s beside the point I was talking about cosmetics less about stat points. And the engis get the short end of the stick on everything seriously don’t pretend they don’t.
He does have a point in one respect, I see it in pve all the time. Many classes are missing the buffs other classes have like the thief and engi not having a stability ability like other classes for example. It does get annoying when things are not equal. I play all adventurer classes and it’s annoying that I can’t do certain jump puzzles that absolutely require a stability boon in order to get past certain spots.
Equalizing these things would definitely improve build choices imo.
Really isn’t a need, they’d have to do extra coding for it to be a non issue for regular players , make it so it’s not so annoying yada yada…think that’s why they didn’t add it.
Also, just report the broken bots for standing there dieing over and over naked in the middle of Orr. I’m very sure a regular player isn’t doing that.
So I was thinking of all the problems engineers face, the biggest is it really doesn’t matter what gear we get because it disappears while using kits.
So here’s a suggestion. A Legendary back piece that changes the look of every kit and turret while being warn. No more hobo backpacks, the rifles on the FT/EG would get a big upgrade, the turrets would be gold with black trim stuff like that.
Am I missing something?
I see people claiming to just craft high level rares to salvage ectos from.
Wouldn’t this result in a net negative of ectos? Since crafting the item requires ecto and there is only a chance to salvage 1 or more?
As a side note, why would anyone want to do that anyway, as the cost of materials is more than the potential ecto gain anyway? Unless you plan on leveling other crafting professions/other chars, it would seem to be more efficient to just sell the mats and buy up the ectos needed.
As a jeweler I understand what you mean.
Jewelry for some reason is the ONLY discipline to require ectos for level 80 rare crafting. It’s ridiculous I know smh.
The rest can just make whatever whenever…they only have to gather a few more items they can actually farm.
So I am one of those people who leveled Chef. I have to say bravo, (not trolling here I loved it!) because it used all the mats I could find in the world all the way beck to the beginning in many cases which gave me the ability to not farm as much. It’s awesome being able to do that on a crafting discipline, less time gathering and more time discovering is always more fun imo.
The thing I’d like to ask your teams to consider doing is revamping your current system in the other disciplines. You see there are some problems making them less then enjoyable.
Combining mats to make better mats. Yes yes I know people will tell me but but you can use the mforge for….blah. I mean simple things like combining leather scraps to make better scraps. Why would anyone combine their almost impossible to fill 250 count of an older leather type to make 10-12 newer leathers? That’s a tad crazy, how about combining 5 older leathers with a material say from the lw vendor to make the next step up? Jewelers do that all the time. and it helped. Why can’t there be an alchemical way of doing the same thing with Ore?
The other thing that bothers me about craftin in the other “lesser” disciplines (lesser then chef hehe) is that there’s hardly any diversity in the items used in the creation process. Chef had items one could purchase with karma scattered all across Tyria, it was nice to have mats I didn’t have to farm, and it gave me recipes that kept the numbers scaling. This isn’t available to the other disciplines and it shows. Would love for something to be done to make it easier to craft in these other ones.
It would be nice to be able to buy some mats instead of farm them. Surely someone other then players have learned to gather.
(edited by tigirius.9014)
At least you can get a great looking legendary, have you seen the horrible excuse for a legendary pistol they have available? And there’s no shield to speak of at ALL. meh. Engis SOL I guess.
The one shield I found was clearly solely guardian. And the pistol was just weird, like willy wonka weird LOL.
(edited by tigirius.9014)
sokay i did participate in the event and both times these chests have dropped nothing i could use…….twice now. None of my characters got a single useful thing accept the bag and ear ring. wonder how many got precursors this time.
I think it’d be neat if players could craft town clothes. It’d just be for looks and a gold/time sink, but why not?
Perhaps different in town npc’s would have recipes for different parts of the outfits they wear, making it a scavenger hunt as well.
They’d need a preview pane in the TP first so we could see what it looked like. People would be piled up in front of the TP people all day now LOL forming groups to get the new town outfits.
“LF1M Town Outfits Run, no newbz plz, link your gear”
I want a deer to protect my Ranger from those dastardly bunnies in the Norn starting area. Deer vs. Bunnies . . . I wonder which would triumph? xD
Why don’t rangers get hooved companions????
I love the style of the guardian but the range weapons are horribly boring. It also has always bugged me that we can summon a spirit longbow when we can’t use a longbow… we can use every other spirit weapon we have.
1: [900rng, 118dmg, if hit from behind shatters causing bleeding (3s)]
2: [1200rng, cone (5x):150dmg, 12sec cd, grants might(3s) to allies in path]
3: [1200 rng, channeled (5x): 900 dmg, 12sec cd, causes crippled (3s)]
4: [symbol at location, granting protection to allies and damaging foes]
5: [range 130, strike foe causing daze (2s), 20sec cd]I was thinking something along the lines of that, lower damage than other classes still but with some small support built in… anything would be more fun than slow blue orbs in my opinion.
Longbows on those who follow the path of light is a very japanese concept actually.
I can actually see that as an option tho they would have to do a tremendously better job at bows for guardians then they did longbows for rangers. Weird how rangers can’t shoot multiple arrows for their #1 yet the clunky warrior is supposedly agile enough to pull it off…riiiiight.
Spirits become dolphins when underwater, why not make traps become mines underwater?
I realize the “ground targeted” trait may become more difficult underwater with traps and “fire” trap under water seems odd; however, that is nothing that couldn’t work.
You could make the “ground trageted” trait function as a ranged attack (same range currently in game for ground target… maybe higher since have an extra dimension) that throws a mine in the direction of your current target -place at location when no target is selected.
Spike trap could work as a mine causing “shrapnel” which bleeds those near it. Fire trap could still be a fire mine…. chemical fires can burn on water for those grounded in reality. Not to mention we still have burning applied to underwater enemies so don’t pretend that a flame trap would create a new issue. Poison… well there are very venemous snakes in bodies of water.
No reason to punish someone for their traits just because they wind up in a random underwater fractal and there is no option to have multiple builds per character.
Suggested the same thing for engineers and they did it. The mines are now those floaty ball thingies.
I am not sure how they could do that with the traps tho.
I really wonder if something like this is happening on land as well or if it really is just a nerf they put in prior to separating the code between pve and pvp because these things really do nothing on land even when specced for cond damage. I have full on cond gear specced for cond damage with three grenades and I seriously STILL have to throw 26-30 grenades to kill anything. I just wonder somehow if being underwater makes it more noticable and more easily testable.
I really wish a Dev would tell us if they are investigating this.
Engi is hard to handle compare to other classes. Ppl feel weak when thief with BS can hit around 100 times harder. But engi is fun thats why I playing him. Players what choose classes because they are OP are pathetic.
Oh I agree, just some of us would like to either not be support, or not be bullets only. The rest just doesn’t work. Even the bomb kit has a bug right now so we can’t trait for that either to get bigger explosions SIGH. it’s ridonkulous.
The kit abilities from the trait Kit Refinement doesn’t do a single thing underwater on my engi. There’s no explosions from bombs, there’s no blast from the medkit, there’s no AOE heal zone in a sphere from the EG, there’s no grenades nothing. It’s weird. And what exactly will they do about the nail field that toolkit normally creates on land, that couldn’t possibly be useful underwater or do-able.
Also, why does the #5 ability from the EG fire off into the distance the healing field i need up close without even the ability to detonate the bubble of healy juiciness I just fired? Can we make it fire at our feet or something? or just blast an AE field of healy goodness right on top of the engi?
(edited by tigirius.9014)
Is it me or did they introduced a stealth nerf to them? I was using them about seven days ago at which they were perfectly fine until recently. I’m 100% sure that they didn’t spread like hell before.
Now they spread randomly and are especially useless when you traited for grenades – the additional grenade mostly misses even at a range of 500-900 and at a range of 1200-1500 only one grenade temps to hit.
So what ’s the purpose in this? You trait for additional range and an additional grenade and it becomes useless underwater? It might be due to the fact that you could use them to shot the grenades out of the water using auto-attack but oh well why not just fix that instead and bring us back what we traited for?
Edit:
Gonna make a new thread for this where I did some testing.
Lotsa things haven’t worked underwater now. The kit abilities from the trait Kit Refinement doesn’t do a single thing underwater.
I use a modified tankcat build.
Had to change on thing. Apparently there’s a problem with the forced explosives bomb trait or i would have the that selected altho the regen has been a nice help in surviving longer fights.
I use the toolkit to block attacks while the big bomb is going off, I then use the bombs to do damage and conds to the enemy to prevent them from doing much to me and having them hurt themselves, then I use the EG when I need healing, I click it for the autoaoe heal and then use the #5 and then go back to bombs. Occasionally while farming if i need ranged I will use the EG more. It seems to be a good combo tho I wish my sigils of rage would work with a kit equipped would help kill faster.
OH and I use medkit exclusively for the 6 because not only does it give me the extra bandages it gives me faster run speed and a prolonged run speed boost. Helps tremendously in Orr.
I haven’t looked at anything recent, but at least as of ~ one month after release, Mesmer was the least played class, followed by Necromancer, then Engineer, according to a census.
Ahaha…..AHAHAHAHA
No.
definitely not LOL
The least played class has always been engineer because none of the bugs save the underwater ones were even considered.
And all the while that was being ignored the only viable means of doing any decent damage was nerfed into the ground for pvp which in turn affected pve(i’m still not sure if they actually separated the coding between pve and pvp yet). So we’re stuck with let’s see…..(goes down the list of kits) AH the toolkit. Yeah because that does so much damage now.
It’s just that when you have classes in the game that are almost never nerfed (warriors) , that can prepare and 1 shot mobs as well as players (warrior/thief) then you have to wonder, why don’t the rest of the classes have that option when they are specced for burst dps? hmm?
Engineer never was, and when we actually had the niche of playing cond damage builds it was enjoyable but they took that away too because people were like “they’re op they’re op!” (what’s funny is the very people who were complaining were the thieves and the warriors. who now one and two shot everything in the game)
All us engis are asking for is a little balance. If they can do it so should we. Why can’t I do a couple of buffs and throw three grenades completely killing something instantly before it can react? isn’t that what happens in real life? and isn’t that what those two other classes are allowed to do, have been for months now?
