so you are saying that it’s a perfectly fine game design to have to use a third party website to form a group, for a dungeon in a game where dungeons were never supposed to be the main focus of end game progression with loot?

I think he means turrets, gear looks like the goggle abilities, kit backpack visuals etc. Right now they all look like hobo backpacks from the humans. LOL I agree we need a set of backpacks per race because we all look poor and homeless (all jokes aside about the economy messups of course).

Pre-80 open world PvE and WvW are the only areas GW2 can compete with WoW.

I disagree with the Pre-80 open world, but I believe that GW2 pvp is far superior

Right now as it stands Zid is correct because they’ve cut off all progression unless of course you are extremely lucky suddenly (don’t get me started on the math) or you buy loads of gems from the shop to convert into gold (when the market gets around to becoming equitable again).

Herding us all to the gem store does not a good end game make.

Has anyone see anything regarding the loot drops? Has it changed at all since last patch? Because if the drops have returned to normal then there won’t be anymore need for questions.

My guess would be no considering the long silence, and considering this.

You see I posted a very nicely worded request for information regarding whether or not this was the team responsible for investigating the loot drop issues (which were promised in the AMA questioning albeit a last minute unscheduled question, but a very important one none the less, and one that was answered with the notion that they would immediately begin an investigation) or if they were responsible for the problem by implementing a fix to the loot drop rate that somehow went wrong. It was in no way condescending and I even mentioned how the community felt it was a question that needed an answer because already people had begun to put together their own theories as to why this hasn’t been given a #1 priority and why we haven’t heard a word since the AMA.

I was in no way demanding, in no way condescending, I was polite and was sure someone would come along and at least pm me with a response like “we’re working on the problem please be patient”.

The thread was shut down…..

Loot Drop Rate Bug

Right now they’re just playing the waiting game. I honestly think that they believe that once all those who played before the Nov 15h update have quite out of sheer frustration that things will just move along swimmingly. In reality, they’re disillusioned in that the drop rates are so bad and the TP so expensive that even newbie players won’t last long before getting frustrated. Over the next couple months, I estimate this will become a common topic of conversation regarding this game on game news sites and magazines…it won’t get fixed until they see it affecting their sales, at which point it will be far too late and most of us will have moved on to other things.

Indeed they cannot moderate the entire internet.

Loot Drop Rate Bug

So the more we bugreport it, the bigger chance of them fixing it.. hopefully.

I am curious now, has this bug (clearly it is) been given a No.1 priority or a No.3 priority. I am hoping a No.1 priority due to it effecting a large user base, and negatively impacting player, including those leveling up. But because of the long silence on this issue it feels like its been given a No.3 priority.

I find it fascinating that they made mention that all posts that were placed in that thread were flame posts. Mine was a valid question asking them if they were the team involved in investigating the loot bug issue, and or if they implemented the lower loot drop percentage as a fix and messed up the open world and there was concern from the community about the silence. I mentioned three threads to show the documentation about the loot issue with this game and this was one of them.

It’s amazing that my totally respectful and carefully worded request was swiftly deleted and called and attempt at flaming.

Thinking of returning, how is the population?

population is slowly falling, the rest of the population is in LA LFG for Fotm since they became dungeon focused, most of the time the people who post here are on servers that are either having people play alts so they have lots of people in the beginning zones, or people who are doing WvW. Pleanty of people are never in the Orr zones in many places accept to farm ore and omnoms then leave, the rest are in LA. So you probably will have some serious trouble finding people to free temples or to run any of the other dungeons.

That’s the hard truth.

The other part of the hard truth is that showing a server as full without knowing the numbers or knowing how many of those people are bots farming continuusly because let’s face it they don’t have an AFK thing going really doesn’t tell you about the health of the overall server pops until you login and try to do any of the things they have in the game that’s suddenly become old content in two months time.

Inorite. I am the most casual player you’ll find and even I am not taken in by the fluff and won’t be concerned over the holiday nonsense until I can login to my character and 1v1 in pve and not spend all day killing a mob because everything is broken.

We have some high hopes for the next few patches. I dunno what they think will happen if they don’t deliver but I know what’s happened to other titles in the past when they’ve let things rot this long.

That’s the worst argument for what they are doing I’ve ever heard. It’s one thing to want to make money for the game beyond launch, it’s another thing entirely to employ blizzard-like and EA-like tactics to prevent people from progressing unless they spend $50 in the gem shop every single character.

Greed is never a good business plan because it ALWAYS come back and bites you in the butt or have we already forgotten what happened to SWTOR and D3?

Not sure what happened suddenly either. I guess one possibility is they didn’t realize just how many people were looking for open world events and no linear questlines when they launched but they definitely should have hired on a buttload more people to help with the content (and I mean the content that’s already out). Not to mention the number of problems with many of the classes because if what most people claim is true that they have two people per profession it’s no wonder they’ve had bugs since bwe3 still in the game, that’s not enough people.

So I guess what I’m trying to say is maybe it’s poor priority and poor personel management? and no you’re right that’s no excuse really.

Magic find gear worth it?

magic find also has the new bug of completely lowering the drop rate quality not just quantity the higher you go. It’s actually better off just being in regular gear and only using the mf when you are farming mobs for t5 t6 mats imo. Rares only come off of champs now and only if you are lucky and I wouldn’t suggest using mf for rares or exotics not even the food or guild buff because you won’t see anything drop at all if you do, that’s how badly it’s broken. This comes from multiple people testing it, over almost a month’s time since before Nov 16th. This has been an almost a month long ordeal with silence from them accept the AMA where chris said they would investigate.

GW2 is not for gamers it is a CASUAL SANDBOX of an MMO there is nothing to keep people who like challenges other than how long can I grind.

It’s definitely not a sand box that’s an insult to all those sand boxes out there.

I too am use to being a healer and a buffer, but I assumed that these things would not be needed. They are needed, the mechanic of falling to the ground and needing to be picked up constantly makes everyone in the game feel like a failure. That’s not heroic. Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should do something and in this case I believe this game still needs healers and buffers or at least improve everyone’s survivability.

I hate the fall down mechanic down because I see it as a crutch for the game. A quick solution to getting rid of trinity.

Volo have to agree with you, it’s definitely not a sandbox it is however a grind fest with the addition of some things like RNG, DR, lower loot percentile, etc. you know what damaged other game titles and pushed their gamers away en masse and caused sub games to become F2P in less then a half a years time, but who needs history right?

Opinion: Feeling less like an MMORPG

I have leveled a Ranger up to 80 but decided to roll a new character, an Elementalist. I am having a lot more fun with this profession and so my aim to get to 80 and make him my main character.

I recently hit level 38 and going through all the heart quests etc. But by each passing day I feel as though the MMO aspect of this game is fizzling out. Rarely do I get a chance to do these dynamic events with actual real life players. For the majority I do all events by myself and I have to leave the [group events] well alone as no one will come help with them on the map. I understand people want to level up to 80 as quick as possible now but levels 1-79 are pretty much a single player game.

The only time I ever ‘play’ with other players is in a small 5 man dungeon. Now to me that is not an MMO.

Is it a case of there are too little players on servers to fill up the maps?
or
Are the dynamic events just not worth it when you could be grinding through all those heart quests?

Leveling through 1-80 is getting very stale as after 30 there isn’t much change in my character. Yes I get traits and extra skills. But for the most part, I have chosen the best skills for PvE already. There is no need to alternate.

Loot is very boring also. There is certainly no item I have got below level 80 which has made me step back and go “Wow” and make me feel like a kitten. I can simply go to the Auction House and by my levels gear which is as cheap as chips.

I’d like to hear other peoples thoughts on this.

Many people probably are like me, refusing to log back in until they fix the glaring class issues and fix the loot parameters.

with things like DR, 0.0000002% drop rates, broken magic find it’s just not worth it to waste our time.

And then there’s the other side of the coin where they made dungeons the focus instead of the open world. Kinda completely 180’d their own manifesto on that one.

Making GW2 the right move?

I like GW2 as it is. That said though, I would give my left nut to see a Utopia campaign to GW1.

TBH I wish guild wars 2 kept everything the same up until lvl 80, but then totally ripped off WoW dungeon and raiding…evn vertical progression I miss my sweet gears

I miss mine too man. Maybe if 60% of us leave they’ll get the message like Blizzard had to about D3 before they made some serious changes to their backwards thinking.

As far as OP, they had a great thing going at launch. People could gear relatively easy, they didn’t need to go buy gold for every single character they made just to get the materials or even the armor they needed or the runes, so we could spend more time exploring, experiencing, having fun in the game.

Now it’s just a mind numbing grind to do anything anymore and none of them have rewards unless you are part of the 0.00000002 percentile lucky enough to get something.

My main attraction to GW2 was the fact that I could choose my way of playing, which is world map, solo, at my own time. If that way of playing provides the proper proportion of valuable vs junk drops, I’m happy. The moment I feel I’m being forced to run dungeons, kill champions and farm-grind in order to get a fair share of reward, I’m out of here like a bad smell. Right now I’m getting a feeling of the latter, which I hope is wrong. I’m not in the game to make money, but to have fun MY way. So botters and high prices on TP annoy me far less than being forced to play a certain way in order to get rewards.

Exactly my point about farming as well.

You see they can’t use the excuse of bots because as they themselves have already admitted our reporting bots and their methods of detection are working so DR isn’t needed.

They can’t use the excuse of the economy anymore because as we all know from using the TP you can’t corner the market in this design, so farmers who are farming for gold for their own purposes will end up with a whole buncha mats they can’t sell for anything other then a tiny bit of copper in the end if they try.

They can’t use the excuse of making the game more enjoyable because by forcing people into the dungeons for the only few rewards people get in the first place they are essentially breaking their manifesto entirely by forcing people to play in only a single way.

So, what they should just go ahead and do? Restore the loot, remove DR because it’s obvious these systems aren’t there for bots, they aren’t there for the economy, and they aren’t there to help players have more fun, quite the opposite.

it’s not and there are far more games that had taming long before WoW.

I’m not suggesting they go back to the flawed system where people could kill the pets while taming far from it they can still stay green but when all you get for the taming affect is a dialog window it’s just a little impersonal is all.

well most would suggest and so would i what i did which was spend all day and mostof the evening (which is what i usually do anyways, i have insomnia) watching for when those worlds become available for transfer via their accounts.

I did that on my husbands account because he joined the game too late and Tarnished Coast was full most of the time.

even in Diablo3 you can have decent drops now after patch 1.05….but here Anet is doing the opposite…

They’ll realize the issue is bigger then they can control when 60% of their players stop playing GW2 suddenly just like what happened in D3. People don’t like to waste their time. I know I don’t, do you?

I don’t even know what they fixed?
This is awesome. It’s like renting a car, and it was rough around the edges, maybe it made a lot of noise and braking a bit iffy so I take it slow, I did email them about the problems I’m having but hardly any reply to acknowledge them then I return it to the garage for the regular 3 hour maintenance.

Next day, I wanted take it out for a spin, but before handing me the key, the mechanic says ‘The car’s fixed. A lot of problems are fixed, sir!’

I asked him, ’What’s the fix, my good man?’

‘Just take a ride and find out!’ he smiled as he hand me the keys.

So, should I step on the accelerator and try a tight turn with this ‘fixed car’?
Should I be wary of rainy weathers, whether the brakes actually work or not?

As I slot in the key and got the engine running, he knocked on my car window…
I lowered it.

“Would you like to buy some gems, sir?”

I drove off.

ANET should tell us about bug fixes, so we know that it’s safe to go back to something we stopped doing because of bugs.
ANET shouldn’t tell us which exploits are fixed. That way any exploiters will waste time trying the closed exploit before moving on to the next one.

The area between the two is very murky.

The issue with that is their loose definition of exploit. Anything you do in the game OTHER than buy gems with cash is considered an exploit by some blowhard on the forums. So yes, some of us want to know which exploit they fixed.

not smurky in the slightest, it’s honest to tell us what will and will not work.

we’re not asking for much. Some of us would like to know if loot is retored, if it’s okay to log back into our broken class, if it’s good to start farming items again to gear our alts.

as customers we have a right to know. if they want to alienate their players more be more secretive then they already are. it’s not a crime to want to know the specifics on a product we purchased.

Humm, I got a lot of crap and some porous bones (-.-), but I also got a yellow one and 3 (!!) dyes (they dropped in a row..).

And we also noticed that every veteran and champion gave us loot today (blue).

Vets should be minimum greens, champs should be minimum rares it’s really that simple if they want it to match the time people spend and the difficulty to the reward.

Other games made me have a closer attachment to my pets via their taming system. sometimes they were rare pet finds, sometimes i had to trap them before I could tame them, and sometimes I had to find a tiny baby pet feed it over a weeks time (a new daily) and it grew into a pet I could use in combat or a mount (not expecting mounts don’t worry)

My suggestion would be try to include these types of tames in the future or even revamp the one you have now (certainly not an immediate thing) and people will love this profession moreso then they do now imo.

This is a tough one to answer.

I like playing in the open world because I can go at my own pace, explore and see things I havent come across yet, even on my second level 80.

Then again, I really like loot and if you want the phat lootz you gotta do dungeons/fractals. Rare and Exotic drops in the world are just that, Rare! So I like dungeons just to get the loot.

Now, if they ever implement a solo dungeon, I will be happier than a pig in…..well you know the rest. =D

oh dear… Are you saying you, at the moment, are playing more for the rewards than fun?

not trying to rehash some of the recent debates regarding changes made to the game…that pot has been stirred enough(and I respect people on both sides who have debated the topic).

if solo dungeons (or whatever it is you most wish for…) was implemented would you still do it even if it was not the most rewarding and delivering the “phat lootz”?

fun is a term thrown around alot but what you have to understand is it’s more fun to get rewards for time spent in games then not to, and it’s more fun to instantly have the capacity to jump into an event then having to wait for a group sometimes for hours.

It’s not bug guys it’s feature to stop bots!

It’s actually even more fun watching new people that join this game on chat wondering why is whole world contested (mostly orr) and they can’t find players except in lower end areas while everyone is in fractals not even for ascended gear but just for loot.

It’s amazing they are obviously trying to keep this feature even tho they just admitted by the guy in charge of it that DR isn’t needed that their system of reporting and pattern recognition is working just fine, so why is it still in the game again?

If I could change medkit, I would remove the extra “drop bandage” skill and make the main “drop bandage” drop three bandages instead of one.Then put an auto-attack in it. It is that bad. The three drop bandages skill is really not smooth.

Since I am stuck with a clunky heal kit. Any tips on how to use it?

It would be great if they had a nonlethal ability called sleeper shot or something like that which would slow the target and make them fall asleep for about 5-10 seconds. I’d love to see a multiple bandage throwing option as well. a drop anility that drops potions of one of three kinds with boons would be nice too.

same happened with swtor year back … everyone who posted complain got dismissed by fanboys and then look swtor is pay 2 win game right now!

I noticed that as well, how many in SWTOR forums posted those same nonsense troll posts like “can i have your stuff” or “oh noes” and then bam no one could continue the game shrank to 1/8 the population despite the lies the PR department put out. The same can easily happen to GW2, without people playing the game how will they continue to try to force players to buy gold via gems with RL money?

Totally fully agree.
Basically you should have given all classes all roles if they want to, but still keep the current game play where we dont need to take any role at all. THis way all would be happy.
You could take up a role, but would not be forced to take any up at all. You could complete anything without any role still.

Some would argue they have support roles for all classes but really they don’t not all classes heal the same when in support roles and some only remove conditions, not the same as healing I’m afraid I agree with you there.

yep happens on my engi all the time, can we also consider giving us the option for the back items to show instead while sheathed? or the turning off of the engi kit backpacks entirely?

A PTR would be impractical with an event per month, just not enough time for them to fulfill their purpose and finish the release. It would be good for the game to cancel the monthly events for now. They are a great idea on paper, but don’t work in real life.

I don’t know about that though. Rift had a fair amount of content releases and events etc and I think they had a PTR – I might be wrong on that though. Been a while since I logged on.

yep it’s called the calendar folks, people use it all the time. one could actually schedule a limited PTR test with required silence for the next events while the current one is happening.

Make it a one-hander and you can dual-wield whips if you want.

now THIS is a good idea! would love whips.

as far as that other guys suggestion on two one handed crossbows, pistols are fine so long as they increase the speed so they shoot faster then a rifle does.

Came here just now because I noticed that very same thing.

I see all kinds of frustrated mod posts about how no one can seem to search for a thread before posting. Well of course they can, they just can’t get any results.

I searched tonight for the typical loot bug reports and none of them showed up. I looked at the dates and they all said today, so i looked for links to anything else all I got was a report saying there were 832 results but NO link anywhere.

It’s amazing to me they can let this go one for three months after launch and then complain to the customers that the customers can’t find anything when they do search.

well I modified the tankcat build for pve.

did the whole kits refinement thing and use toolkit, EG, bombs for easy targeting.

if you like playing with the camera alot use FT.
