Pattern Two —
People’s perception of the occurrence of rare events is naturally misguided. The number of rare items in a period of farming should follow a Poisson process. The math behind it ensures that you will see clusters, that some people will be much richer than others.
It’s natural to be superstitious. The brain creates patterns when there are none, cuz that’s what brains do.
If indeed the number of rares over time follows a poisson distribution with an extremely low lambda in a Probability mass function, doesn’t that constitute of an easy-to-compute DR mechanism? If so, is there a possibility that the lambda was much higher before november 15th?
This assumption of a pattern really doesn’t explain how prior to nov 16th everyone was getting rares and exotics from dragon events, and now when one does them we only get blues and greens. That’s not pattern assumption that’s direct manipulation on the part of the devs. That’s another thing that brains do, brains manipulate whatever they can when they can.
Also, your statement doesn’t take into account that they admitted to using DR and that it’s not functioning like its supposed to, that they are slowly bringing it down so that it doesn’t affect farmers but only affects bots. They made this statement in the same paragraph as the one that suggested moving around from zone to zone to try to offset the DR from hitting farmers.

How about an actual answer instead “cosmetic”.
That doesn’t answer why something “cosmetic” should require such a substantial amount of money or time. Let’s face it, outside of shouting “lfg” and fractals, cosmetic items are part of the end game. A part that is almost counter productive because of DR.
I try to farm for the materials…I’m punished with DR…
Exactly, and no these items aren’t cosmetic now that their stats are on par with the new Tier 7 gear, aka ascended.
just now I got a hang while trying to load into LA on my server
after rebooting the game it says that LA’s portal waypoint has become contested and it redirected me back to black citadel.
after dec 14th patch three people posted their builds I cannot for the life of me find the third, I’ve used the terrible forum search to no avail. Can someone direct me to the build that utilizes HGH but has three sets of runes for different purposes? Starting with superior runes of strength
thanks.
this actually seems to work
odd
if you are using this for pve i would suggest getting sup sigil of flame for the pistol/shield. When one is on cooldown the next one goes off and so forth it works well.
they wouldn’t even need to go to something that extreme. the blunderbuss could just be turned into a burst that would do just as much as warrior’s Volley, but at close range.
And an engineer doing as much damage as a warrior would be bad how? considering they’ve nerfed engis into oblivion while two classes one of them the warrior still enjoys one shotting everything with their rifles. From where I’m sitting they either need a nerf or we need a shotgun to blow some zombie heads off in Orr.
the 50 bucks a week in gem cards is getting old
I can imagine that it would!
What on earth do you find to spend all those gems on? There’s not that much in the store!
He means gem – gold conversion.
exotics must be purchased with karma
The amount is not universal I’ve noticed. They want 50 of the T5 creature mats and 250 of the T5 material mats to make any T6 mats. They should just remove this altogether and restore the drop rates because this is beyond grinding. It’s not farming it’s absolutely having a second job to get that many mats especially with the bugged DR/MF crap going on right now.
Thanks!
Unless of course, you are still stuck in your permaDRness across your entire account.
ReMarkable, not to mention the fact that the snowflakes are a limited time item and therefore even after the market corrected itself, the recipe would eventually vanish as the supply of snowflakes disappeared.
Yep exactly what I was thinking. It’s amazing to me that the very people who are trying to “protect” the economy are themselve harming it in horrendous ways. Thus the need for people to do this just to make some gold so they can actually play the game normally which (I’m sorry to say) would be the vast majority of those who used this as a method to get some gold (not those who just play the TP all day and do nothing else in the game)
Picking up turrets needs to cut off 75% of the cooldown (it’s 25% right now iirc) so, for example, a 30 second cooldown picked up becomes 7.5 seconds.
That will make them mobile enough, IMO.
If the cooldown was directly related to their health, that would be awesome. Turret has full health when you pick it up? No CD. 25% health, 75% CD.
That would be a welcome logistical change.
not for me really, because yes one would assume we’d fix it but really if we are to assume they are like other AI pets then they should be at full health when picked up and resummoned how hard is it to plop one down and press the on button? These cooldowns for turrets are ridiculous really.
It occurred to me while playing a well known dungeon crawler that subsequently also has an engineer class in it, that engineers on this game would benefit from the design they used on the other game.
Holy kitten the hoops I would jump through to get spider-mines!
I was thinking the same thing. would so love for spider grenades LOL but that would be a stretch.
Well maybe not when it comes to our horrendous mine abilities we have now. Like the 25% health one and the toolbelt mine deployment would be nice to have these things run after the mobs and splode. But that might actually make them useful and we all know we can’t have a useful engineer class.
(edited by tigirius.9014)
For my 2cents I would like the Engi to have a better way of escape while downed.
I like the idea of being able to ourselves to something/someone with the 2 skill. Would be cool if I could shout at my mate to run out of the fight abit so I can hook into his flesh and pull myself out. But maybe the 3 skill could become a tonic that we drink that gets us on our feet again but in a drunken state, making it hard to control/see maybe be crippled but let us get away. Kind of emulating the Warriors ability to get back up, but not quite as effective and we just go back to being downed after it wares off.
However I do also like turning the 3 skill into a massive damage suicide button. It seems appropriate anyway as the only time I ever get it off in WvW is right before I die anyway XD
Exactly we have a cloaking device when traited, the asura have a teleporter even one without the need for a pad as per their story, and the char have smoke they could use for conceilment. Why can’t any of those things be used while downed? Heck even if we were limited to tools we could pull out the gear shield for a few seconds. Anything would be better then it is now.
I’m not fixated on the grenade kit and I still agree with the OP, you people forget they nerfed EVERY KIT that means all of them that means every option for an engineer to use can we stop saying people don’t know what they are talking about just because they used grenades before please? and try to unite to get an answer from the devs as to why this class is completely screwed up now? Thank you
And before anyone says anything I’ve tried both methods being demanding AND being nice they aren’t saying anything. Prolly because they never come here they are hanging out on reddit or something I dunno.
Has this been tested?
this is GW2 nothings been tested, thus the lack of PTR.
Anet specifically said you need to move around to avoid DR issues and they encourage farmers.
If you stay @the one spot then DR will affect you.
To a degree I farm, but I keep on the move. I have yet to have a DR problem.
If you are you are staying in the same spot or botting and deserve to have issies
Actually that doesn’t work for everyone. Anet also suspects there’s something not working right with DR so while it turns off for you it stays on for about 40-45% of the population and this bug is growing so they are trying to adjust when it starts DRing you while they are searching for the cause of why it stays on for people.
Also it seems to stay on across multiple characters of an account which supports their claim they did this for bots but it still doesn’t help the community that it’s there at all. The prices in the TP are out of this world stupid right now.
but the DR is too damn high.
OMG I read that in his voice too! well done!
Just for you! http://www.gw2lfg.com/

This is closer to what I suspect Rifles should’ve been like for GW2. More like a shotgun imo (minus all the elemental blasting this thing does) Our regular shots should have been bigger shots like the torpedos we shoot underwater i suspect. Right now making it a hybrid rifle shotgun really doesn’t do much for it. The damage is too low for the slow speed and the weird 4/5 abilities.
Now I know what everyones going to say “this is not the same type of game” however, making the rifle a shotgun for the engineer would definitely improve it overall and remove the confusion causing it to not do enough damage as it sits now. The pellet gun it is right now isn’t helping so we need something with a lot more oomph.
I think the engi rifle should be turned into a shotgun type two handed cannon then it would do this profession some justice.

I was thinking that while fighting in melee can be fun there’s no fluidity to our attacks. Instead of the Fkey flaming kick where is our thrust attack making us fly foreward to attack targets ahead of us sortof like a charge. We have some good attacks on the toolkit but they could be better. Sure we have a stun and a bleed, but why not make our attacks with the wrench cause confusion?
Also, piercing attacks don’t really do much imo, they just allow you to hit in a line. It would be nice if they actually took away some armor with each pistol shot, this would help the pistol dps problem out greatly that is if they don’t already have plans to increase the attack speed.
What I was suggesting was making it a trait so they could be either or. More choices are always better then being trapped into only a couple of builds. The more choices we have the better the profession becomes. They couldn’t really reduce their health at the moment considering they die in three hits no matter what you trait right now anyways.
It occurred to me while playing a well known dungeon crawler that subsequently also has an engineer class in it, that engineers on this game would benefit from the design they used on the other game.
I have the ability on my ranger to make the spirits I summon run around with me.
Why can’t this be a traited enhancement of the turrets for engineers? It would certainly open up more build possibilities.
If I were building a turret I would certainly want it to be mobile and roll around behind me wherever I go instead of stuck in a single spot often being completely decimated by mobs running through a space.
It would be awesome to have these things on little tank tracks on land and in the water having propellers to follow me around while fighting.
Or a mobile healing turret.
+1 yes please :P
Is it just me or are feasts taken right out of the hands of the chefs and made expensive and having to use a mystic forge for something so basic?
It’s kind of insulting both as a player who leveled Chef to max, and as a guild member that anyone can buy the food off the TP and just throw it into the mystic toilet to get a feast of somekind. Why have the chef at all if you don’t allow us to make the food trays. Even the low level feasts cost entirely too much to make for their level.
What’s even weirder is the cost of making this stuff is enormous. It’s not really that difficult to find some plates and layout 10 of the same food items is it? Why do we have to use special crazy priced ingredients to make a large feast for something?
This doesn’t really jive well with reality imo. Feasts should have a low cost ingredient, make it an item that is like the transmute items ui where you drop in ten of the items you want to make a feast and voila it’s done. Or drop ten of the items and an elonian wine and poof it’s a feast. Who needs crystals in their food again? Make it an item only chefs can use. Really why was this made so complicated and expensive it’s not like it gives anyone a special advantage, you can just as easily hand out ten of the type of food to ten players. weird.
Only realistic types such as horses, camels, trained dolyaks
Uhm not as a Charr engineer it’s not! I want my motorcycle with weapons! If mounts were available I wanna ride around Mad Max beyond the thunderdome style!
Loot
- Real Stealing Obviously this would be for the thief class. Could we have a mechanic where when we use the steal ability it actually gives us an extra baggy filled with coin, crafting mats, and the occasional rare crafting mat?
- Lottery: In many games there was a weekly lottery where a giant chest was opened per server and people who signed up for the lottery could participate and receive items like currency (gold perhaps), weapons, jewelry, armor (Rares and exotics?!), potions, food, crafting materials (Tier 6 perhaps?). These lotteries generally gave people something for signing up each week. I’d love to see that in this title. Rift had a mini scratchoff game. Lotro had a general drawing lotto weekly.
- Fishing and RP Props: Would love for fishing to be added to the game complete with new recipes for fish and seafood for multiple purposes. I would love to see that fishermen would be able to fish up supplies, food, gear (like rings and jewelry), bags of treasure, parts for crafting all dependant on the level of the player not the zone. It would be great to have props to place down to enhance the fishing experience or to use for role play, like picnic basket and cover, lounge chair, parasol, fishing chair with lurebox and poles, lanterns, camp fires, and tents. This would greatly enhance the gaming experience. You could even make these items craftable items or buyable items in the store.
- Bags o’loot: Saw this in one of the human zones where bandits had bags just lying around all over their hideout. I would love for this to be a common thing found amongst the hoarders of Tyria. Bags of Tier 1 – 6 loot should be common. Even if they were given 12 hour reset timers to prevent abuse that would be better then nothing and it would be so much fun to find these stashes in Tyria, almost as much fun as finding those gardens protected by veteran trolls.
- Currency Bar & Currency Storage: a bar of the current currencies you have in your bags like karma, commendations, gold. Toggle the ability to see those currencies on a small bar like near the map. Commendations (as well as all future currencies added to the game) turned into a currency that’s in the virtual wallet rather then a bank item that takes up a slot.
Crafting UI
- Leather Combining: Would love to combine lower level leathers into higher tier leathers all the way up to tier 5. This would eliminate alot of waste as many of the lower tier leathers end up being vendored as the market is manipulated to make them worthless in the TP. (similar to the combination of jewels.) Without the need for waste in the current mystic toilet system.
- Crafting Pre-requisite Tracker: The ability in the craft window to make pre-requisites to items from the item’s selection in the window. For example, making a pistol frame, a pistol barrel for a pistol. Or making a the planks and ore bars from the dowel window.
- Legendary Tracker: An interface to track the materials for a legendary much like we track events in a zone. A checkbox would activate this and from this we could select which legendary to track. Each material would be a minibar and one could flatten it if one needed to in order to read zone event trackers more easily.
- Sigil or Rune Salvage Kits: Kits with the sole purpose of removing sigils or runes without destroying or damaging the item those runes or sigils are in.
- Crafting Lists: If we could have the option to turn off permanently all of the lower level recipes in the recipe list.
(edited by tigirius.9014)
-General UI-
- Egg Timer: To help with Real Life, and to help casual gamers and full time gamers alike I would love to see a timer or alarm in game that one can set to make sure appointments or events one has to stop playing for a bit aren’t missed by accident.
- Mini Button: a small button off to the left or right of the buttons used for combat to switch minis, have it track the minis in the mini storage.
- Armor Switcher: a small button located near the top of the healthbubble that would allow for the easy switching between trait builds and armor sets and weaponsets on the fly.
- Dual Trait Builds: the ability to switch between trait builds. (this isn’t just useful for those who would like to switch between pve and pvp easily, it’s also very useful for those who would like to switch between travel and non-travel options. There are certain builds I personally use that allow me to run faster and give me escape options that I would never have on when I am serious in combat. I’d like to switch between these two builds without having to open the H window and click on each item to change it (such as happens in dangerous places like Orr very often).
- Chat Window Whisper Pane: a pane in the chat window that has a tiny list of names of the players whispering me on the right and for each name listed there the second part of the window on the left displays the conversation, solely used for whispers.
- New Defeated Players Icon: Some of us are a tad color blind and can’t noticed the slight difference between a defeated player and a downed npc, please make it so that the defeated player icon is completely different from the one used for the npc.
- Preview Pane for TP: Would love to know how the item looks before buying it without having to find a website that has some nonblurry screenshot or a model viewer.
- Chat Window on load screen: Would love to see this happen at some point. The long load screens between zone problem aside, I would like to not have to pause conversations with guildies because I’m loading into a zone. I’ve noticed that the settings screen often can be pulled up between load screens so I can’t imagine why one couldn’t have the chat window or party ui available while the rest of the game loads normally.
- Buff Item Button: Somewhere on the right top of the button bar I would love to see a button to easily use the items one normally carries for boons. Food, oils, potions. It would be nice to be able to access those without opening inventory directly each time.
- Social Networking Posts: Being about to take a screenshot and post it as a FB or Twitter post instantly from inside the game would be fantastic. It would certainly make it easier for people to see the finer fun points of your game.
- Login Notifications: A small window above the chat window on the left, that only popsup for a few moments when a friend on our friends list logs onto the game.
- Account Name Hidden in Friends List: The acct name in the friends list window is sometimes so long that the nickname given to the player on the list is completely disappeared. With windows often keeping the same size or being fixed to one side only, it’s difficult to recognize new friends by their acct name.
- Self Icon On Map: should pulse when the world map opens and or is moved to look at some other part of the map.
- Map or Reading Animation Would love for the characters to open a parchment and appear to be examining it when the map is open or when the mail window is open to show others a simple representation of what one is doing. If the mail could be a postage stamp on it of somekind different from the map that would be neat as well. One could even expand this to include a pamplet and a paddle for the TP window.
- Map Personal Notes: Maps especially bought ones should be able to be written upon. If it’s to be more realistic we should be able to add our own notes, permanent ones, to the map for our own uses to help keep track of resources and locations of gardens and chests while in game.
- Petition System: For new ideas or for fixes to an existing problem. This would go a long way to repairing many of the items people find troublesome. If fun is the goal of the game, then knowing exactly how many customers feel about whether some new update is fun or not would be helpful in determining if in fact it’s a tiny portion of your playerbase complaining or the majority of the players complaining about a particular system.
- Currency Per Character: The ability by mousing over the gold in the inventory screen or possibly on the bar that’s hopefully going to be added to the map to show how much coin each character has in it’s inventory without switching.
(edited by tigirius.9014)
Please bear with. I’m trying to categorize and keep together the requests I would like to see eventually in the game. These enhancements have been used before in other titles and would greatly enhance the gameplay. Sorry If i repeat myself as I suffer from Hypoxia.
-Guild UI-
- Crafter Exchange: the ability to see and place requests as messages to offline players for items to be made by crafters of 400 skill level of the same guild.
- Personal Note: the ability to place a personal note on self in the roster indicating the need for a certain type of resource to finish crafting personal armor sets, runes, sigils, weapons.
- Alt Tracking: on the main guild page so that others in the guild will be able to mouse-over your account name and see a tooltip with the names of all of your characters representing that same guild.
- Calendar Events System: so that the guild master and the officers you are currently representing can more easily schedule events for the guild. Complete with “will you join” “yes” “no” “tentative” as answers.
- Beacon: this is a concept a friend came up with. Place a beacon on oneself so that people looking at the roster or main page of the guild list can see if you are lfg for dungeons, heading to a particular zone and for what purpose (events and the waypoint location), or heading to a zone for completion. The world map would show your beacon to guild members wherever you may be. It would help people come together more easily in the guild because some people just don’t have guild chat as their focus particularly while fighting. One could toggle the beacon on or off when lfg and everyone else could toggle the beacon system on or off on their map to make it easier.
- Guild Warband: it’s been suggested multiple times but it’s definitely needed. The ability to mark on the map an icon above the head of an officer or guild leader to better see him while we are warbanding, and the ability to create a squad like warband for pve for clearing out whole zones. (preferably without spending 100g and causing other people on the map problems)
- Guild Alliance System: Where guilds can communicate between two guilds in the chat window, and allow for grouping with the suggested calendar system. Preferably with the ability to turn on and off the other guild calendar events.
- Guildies on Map: The ability to see guild members on map without grouping. A toggle perhaps if the Guild Warband isn’t a good enough idea.
- Guild Voting System: For problems that people can’t always have meetings about, there should be a voting system in the UI to make it easier for guild leaders to get answers on problems guilds face sometimes. It would simplify trying to match often sparatic real life schedules where not everyone can meet up at the same times to vote.

I’m with Choops. The Engineer is the most difficult to master because we have so many fun toys to play with. We have been nerfed to hell and back, but we few who love this class stick with it. The Engineer is the sleeper class.
The problem is I have better things to do than put up with substandard gameplay.
Guild Wars 2 doesn’t have a monopoly on my time. The class is just not fun to play with nerf after nerf after nerf. And frankly I have 0 confidence in the current balance team’s ability to make good decisions.
I’m not going to stand around hoping that 6 months from now they get a clue.
Yep unfortunately we’ll see more of this and you know, I don’t blame you no one wants to waste their time. I know I don’t.
Nice thoughts OP. Yes, after D3 and GW2 the sub model is really looking attractive. I think that juggling economy, monetization, and player reward in free to play just doesn’t work IRL as its currently being implemented by game companies. What I mean is literally that it doesn’t work; it doesn’t lead to a rewarding gaming experience for the player. That is my experience anyway and it’s good to see I’m not alone.
What doesn’t work on the other hand is monetizing by making a game sub only and adding a shop like every sub only game out there atm. The problem isn’t the current model of the game it’s the current cut off of every reward from inside the games mechanics. No reward = no players. Every game maker has done this and it has ALWAYS 100% of the time backfired including those titles who use subs as their main income.
Also, they didn’t do this to move people to the store, that myth was destroyed when JonPeters posted what they were doing, approx how long it would last, and that they like farmers as players.
Altho admittedly he didn’t post it on the GW2 forums so who could know about it right? I almost didn’t find it myself.
I have to agree with the OP, historically, anytime a DR like this or lower drop rate is implemented it ALWAYS ends in disaster because people won’t waste their time anymore. And to those who think these events aren’t here (now so late after launch) for the purposes of farming them, get real seriously. These events are no longer new and no longer just there as a means to bring people in with storyline content, they are there to have fun and more importantly BE REWARDED for that fun. When they take out the reward for whatever the reason they are removing the most attractive part of any game title and thus hurting their game. You can speculate all you want but that’s what’s happening and more importantly that’s what mmo history shows us.
Let me give you some mmo history. DR is never a good thing. Other companies tried this in the past with all of the same excuses to help kill off the gold farmers, protect the player economy etc etc etc. It never does that. It ALWAYS kills the player population and backfires on the devs in the end who put in place lower drop rates, DR, breaking higher drop rate mechanics like magic find, because it forces the good players the ones that stick with a game for year out of the game.
No one wants to waste their time or money and when these things are used to try to offset the manipulation of the market of a game, they always fail to take out the people they are targeting and often destroy the game’s population because they aggrivate the people they want to stay.
The reason why it’s less dramatic in this title then it has been in the past? No subscription fee to play.
If there was a subscription fee to play this title and they did this to the player population, remained silent about it, made it impossible for so many to get the gear mats they need, this game would be dead, would have 3 servers and would have fired the majority of it’s staff and would be making press about how awesome their new plans for F2P will be when it comes out in the next couple of months.
Sound familiar? Yeah it’s because we HAVE seen this before, We as players know what happens when you do this to a playerbase.
And what gets me is the people who have blinders on are the ones who say things like “well they are the experts not us”, uhm no. Here’s the problem with that. If the devs were gamers and more importantly long time mmo gamers like they have claimed in their video they would know what putting DR/Lower drops does to an economy and to players en masse EVERY time from the history of it all, they would know and thus not do it. They would also more importantly implement something else that was used to fight gold farmers and not destroy the community and even more importantly communicate with the playerbase to let us know this is what’s happening and why instead of leaving us in the dark. If they had played mmo’s they would know how important communication is to any mmo between developers and gamers.
So saying that the players are wrong just because we aren’t on their team developing is just amazingly short sighted. Through knowledge of history, one can be right about something so political without actually being a politician.
(edited by tigirius.9014)
Well I guess they really weren’t interested in a dialogue with their community or we would see a post by now…..
Bare with me guys.
Today we had a patch, right?
Ok.
Malchor’s Leap. Aprroximately 2 hours of grinding without any breaks , but only changing waypoints.
1 exotic, 3 rares, 2 charged lodestones, 2 onyx lodestones and loads of greens. White trash also and blues, as usual.
I don’t know what happened but there are 3 possibilites:
1. Either Magic find was fixed. I am running at ~ 170 % magic find atm.
2. Either the loot table was adjusted with this patch.
3. Either I am a lucky kitten and this was just a strike in my usual grinding.
I will grind for another 2-3 hours and keep you posted.
Meanwhile, I would like the rest to come here and confirm if something has changed in their grind patterns / loot tables.
Thanks.
Did you attempt this right after server sestart? Because i swear, i have started noticing that right after a server restart i “always” get a ton of rares in cursed shore, just like the pre november 15th patch. After an hour or 2, its back to normal.
Happens to me every time there’s a restart it turns off my DR and makes MF work as originally intended before it turns back on and I start getting porous bones again.
Definitely do keep us informed the more we communicate what’s happening the more we can keep track.
What is DR? What does it mean?
When you explain me what it means i wanna rush to see the bug myself.I havent found any bugs from this game so far since i’m not looking every aspects of the game with a magnitude glass,
LMAO that was the funniest thing I’ve read all day, No bugs huh?
Never played any of the classes I supposed because they all have them right now and you’ve very seriously never played the in-the-beta-testing-phase engineer because it’s riddled with bugs.
Not to mention the large number of bugs apparently you can’t seem to see are bugs when dealing with loot, DR, MF, damage ratios, boons, traits not working, enemies being too powerful for their label, level 60 gift mobs popping out in a level 15 zone (that one was my favorite.)
I mean blinders are one thing but seriously that’s just a tad delusional claiming there aren’t any at all.
Unless you were being sarcastic in which case I withdraw this statement and bid you carry on.
There’s been a huge hole in the communication from the Devs and I think I’ve found the reason why.
We really need them to copy paste what they are posting elsewhere and post those things here so people more readily have available information about their problems.
I’ve seen posts on Reddit, Twitter, FB …..everywhere else but here about the concerns of the game and people are in the dark entirely about it. Please copy/paste your future plans into these forums as postits so that we can understand what’s happening.
Thanks.
Supposed to be the “funny nature” of engineers making crazy experimental potions and machines, but in use it gets old after 3 seconds.
You see tho that kind of thinking nerfed the engineering profession in games like WoW to be completely superficial. In this game, it’s not so funny because this is a whole class so they definitely need to rework some things.
If they want this class to behave like the others and to be as useful as the others they need to make these elixirs give all of the buffs they would normal randomize between when thrown or they need to make them give 3-4 of the boons when thrown and drinking them.
It would certainly correct one of the major aspects of this class right off the bat.
Why would I ever want a wall of invisibility? Where I walk thru it only to be seen three seconds later? How is that ever useful? Why would I want the rocket boots to land me face down and have to spend three seconds standing up just to move?
Why can’t we have stability all the time from a potion that we’ve made? I cannot as an engineer do any of the major things in the game that require stability without risking a gamble on a tiny stability factor that I may or may not get when I throw my potion that doesn’t even last long, OR I have to use an elite skill with an enormous cooldown.
Why doesn’t equipping a large package like flamethrower kit or toolkit give me stability, or drinking one of these potions I have give me stability? Like the Elixir R for example?
This class really makes no sense some times.
“This was to ensure that world loot drops were not a significantly worse way of acquiring rare and exotic items than crafting and running dungeons.”
Does anyone feel like there is absolutely no way this is even remotely close? No-one sees world drops even remotely close the dungeons or crafting reliability. Not only do you choose the skins and stats of crafted and dungeon gear, you also know you will get something. World drops are still terribad and champions are still ignored.
It’s definitely nowhere near what people get in the dungeons no, it’s why we have a near 1000 post thread with 3xk views on the loot bug issue. People are tired of wasting their time. This game was supposed to be open-world-centric not dungeoneer-centric and thus is the main reason why people have said multiple times that they went back on their manifesto.
The only thing they have changed since is they made T6 drop more often from the bags one gets from risen in Orr and svanir in the gorge. I haven’t seen a rare in a very long time. Apparently there’s a bug with DR and with MF as well. DR doesn’t turn off for some people and is account wide, and MF works in reverse of what it’s intended to do for many people, people increase their mf only to start getting porous bones all of a sudden.

Not the first time I’ve experienced this. Last night I was in the hinterlands with my level 49 thief doing a group event where you have to kill some large rock dogs followed by a really men centaur champion. Dogs were dispatched by the group of about 6 doing event then the centaur guy game.
Everytime I took a hit, I died. I have gear and skills appropriate for mylevel.
Each time I died (about 10 times) I had to spend 70 copper to revive nomore than a few feet away from where the event was taking place. So 7 silver in revivies plus repair costs all because of the constant 1 hit kills.
This is outragous
thieves aren’t meant for full on frontal assaults against enemies like that, let someone else get their attention then run around behind him and do serious damage or be ranged. I play a pve thief It’s happened enough to me to know better.
Not that I don’t agree with you tho. I think one shot enemies are just as ridiculous as 1 shot warriors in pvp.
bomb and grenade explosions are too slow.
bombs and grenades don’t explode with the same radius that a standard sword swing on my Thief produces.
pistol shots still shoot as slow as rifle shots.
yep right now yep. It’s so messed up that I have to throw 30-39 grenades, GRENADES mind you to kill anything.
Bombs and pistol shots too slow too underpowered to do any real damage, explosives don’t have as wide an explosion radius as a sword swing, really? seriously?
They want us to focus on condi damage when using bombs/nades but when you are in a large group they cap the number of conds on the enemy so most of the time you aren’t doing sqwat.
So long as they allow bunker thieves and bunker warriors to 1-3 shot everyone the imbalance will never be fixed. (and yes I play a thief I know)
until they remove the DR/MF/Open world loot issue they won’t get any votes/recommendations from me.
TP seems to come down to envy over the profits that some people are making playing the market.
The games I’ve played that have “progressive” random chance tend to have it in place for items that are required or necessary to progress further in the game (i.e. as part of the gear grind), which doesn’t quite apply to GW2 as there really aren’t any gear checks holding you back from content (with the exception of higher levels of fractals).
The TP is not “pure capitalism”, but is a (lightly regulated) competitive marketplace. Capitalism involves private ownership of the means of production and the production of goods and services for profit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capitalism). While those who amass great in-game wealth are able invest heavily in the markets, they cannot take control over the means of production for goods and services (i.e. loot drops, gathering nodes, crafted items) or use that wealth to bar others from entering into the market.
I laughed so hard when I read your post. You are obviously someone who’s in a large enough active guild that is filled with dungeoneers (in a game that was never meant to be about dungeons) who spends his time gathering the large amount of mats that drop only in dungeons at present (even with the current dungeon nerfs) who manipulates the HIGHLY regulated TP and gets large sums of gold from it judging by your reply to this poster.
Seriously. It’s hilarious. First of all, OP is absolutely right, jealous or not. Second, the dungeons in this game were never meant to be the sole focus, in fact their original statements specifically poo pooed the idea of the dungeons being any type of major part of the experience or focus for any part of the game. Third, just because YOU run dungeons to get the stuff you can sell doesn’t mean that’s how this game started out, originally one didn’t have to step one toe in a dungeon, and that’s the way it was meant to be. And finally, the TP is so highly regulated people have been abusing it since the start. They learned the system Anet is using and put in posts that are even under the vendor price STILL to this day making Anet have to go thru and correct them ad nauseum, AND Anet has to put in posts of items of their own to fix many of them. It’s definitely not a fair system at all.
It’s almost impossible to gear your toon the way you want to especially for those who started playing AFTER the loot drop/DR/MF fiasco that we’ve been dealing with for a month now and after the Nov 16th patch without buying gems.
Jan and Feb big updates coming… i’m looking forward to it!
Hopefully with these big updates they can get rid of the bugs with DR, MF, finally take engineer out of the beta testing phase, and restore the loot to it’s former levels. Preferably in January.
PS: my main is guardian and I do not have much experience on any other class.
Was going to say apparently you’ve never played an engineer then LOL
I’ve read this forum now for some time and seen a lot of complaints, demands rage quitting etc.
Yet when the devs do something good and actually show they listen to players, there’s very little thanks for it.
For eg: I’ve seen people ask for Anet to add Rare Items bank slot, show some form of map completion, fix various bugs, etc and they did.
In the last update many good things were done including the above, which shows they DO listen and take note of what we say, yet there’s hardly any posts that acknowledge their efforts and say thank you.
Well I for one would like to say thanks Anet for listening to us and for great improvements you are making to the game.
Keep up the good work and Merry Christmas to you all!
You’ve missed quite a large number of posts then ….it’s understandable considering the search feature doesn’t work properly on the forums.
