Can you provide specific examples of non-soloable events? At scale 1, they’re all soloable, or should be. Are other players in the area scaling up the event without helping?
Krait witch for one. It’s very much a pain in the side and even with 5 players this thing is more like a raid then anything trying to kill her in her lair I’d venture to say that some professions find this part of the game so difficult that even with five players of the “non-favored” professions this event is actually just as difficult as trying to take back the temples in Orr.
if they plan on removing it one would hope they’d adjust the drop rates to compensate. And when i say that i don’t mean in dungeons either. Open world drop rates have been abyssmal since they did some adjustments months ago.
So one could hope that if they remove the requirement to have a REALLY high mf to get anything that they will make it so drop rates return to what they were at launch and having a simple mf boost from food, banners, guild, store will be sufficient to increase the drop rates of rares all over.
1) There aren’t any structured raiding (as in 10 – 25 man groups). Most big fights take place out in the world. Instanced content is 5-man only.
2) Find your own group, either in-game or through GW2LFG. No queuing for Dungeons. Just exercise your social skills a bit. Finding a guild would be a good idea
3) There have been a lack of players in the higher level zones since the Fractal of the Mists come out. However, I haven’t had much trouble leveling.
There’s these problems AND lack of rewards for open world events that were supposed to be the major focus of the game. Do a dragon, get all blues and greens. I find it odd that they claimed it would be so much easier to make metas for open world then a new dungeons so dungeons would not be the focus of the game but then went back on that claim and made it worse for the players an for the design team. weird.
Anyways, I hope they fix these things soon.
Hmm can’t seem to use multiple images to illustrate my point. Please forgive the multiple posts.
Illustrating the FT miss bug.
I moved literally one inch and all four of my next attacks became misses, what’s more is the guy right next to my target didn’t get hit by anything. Usually when they are that close together they get hit by cone attacks.
I am not saying that we are fine. I am saying that we are not broken. I still think they need to really improve on the class. I agree that we don’t have a solid theme, but we can still piece together some great outputs.
So i guess this doesn’t mean anything to you? If i could take a picture of what it’s like for the explosion radius bug i would. I have screens of the discharge bug, and of the fumigate bug as well. If i could record a video and convert it to a gif to show you how many bullets and how many grenades it takes to kill 1 mob would be believe me then?
It’s not too much to ask that the class function properly is it? because we did pay to play this game last i recall.
What you are seeing is me moving to the right inch by inch. When the guy on the left beyond your view isn’t getting hit and the other guy isn’t getting hit even tho he’s been smothered with multiple shots of the #1 ability. This screen was after 4 shots of missing.
Please NO
Stop with this kittening elitism
This “Engineer is only for pros like me, stop playing it, you’re noob” argument just makes you sound arrogant and is one of the most stupid things I have ever heard
Quit it and let us humans play the class we want to play without having to be a god like you
I agree completely. It’s ridiculous. The problem is not the player it’s definitely the bugs and nerfs. To those people who keep posting that nonsense get over yourselves. It’s not like that and you know it. The only class in the game where every class is versatile that gets nerfed because it’s versatile does not a good game make.
This class has sooooooo many issues until we unite and put forth a unified response to these issues, no one is going to take them seriously.
So if you come onto these forums and you are tempted to post this nonsense, do us all a favor DON’T. go spend your time with your niche build and keep out of the affairs of the rest of the players who know this is a real problem.
Like the OP I feel the same way, useless. and when people discriminate in a game that’s already difficult to form a group in it doesn’t make for a pleasant gaming experience, much less the fact that in order to respect to something they changed out of the four options it gives us (major ones being burst, condi, support, defense) it costs money, real money after a while even people with lots of gold end up broke having to do this. So it’s a real problem I agree OP.

Hello, i wanted to share this video with the engineer community, since it seems that most people are not satisfied with the damage of the class.
I made it for fun so it’s nothing serious (tpvp, build guide or stuff like that) but it shows some big crits, some group fights, 1vX clips, some 1v1 vs “infamous” builds and a bonus level 15 guardian in wvw clip XD with music.
I hope you enjoy.Diliria [HxH] (Ring of Fire).

Thanks I’ll try this out with some modifications for pve. hopefully it will work out much better then the other ones.
signed. we need to know what’s happening so there are no more surprises come january/feb
It is and you are absolutely right. There are some who have found their niche place (and have said they work around bugs) but really there are so many that you can’t work around them all. These people who keep claiming there’s nothing wrong with this class play bunker builds (which are oddly nerfed if you look at the cond damage differences between classes you’ll notice like i have that engis have taken a huge hit to cond damage as well as the imbalance of having cond damage builds for other classes not give initial damage bursts like they do for the necro under the same build armorset types) So you’ll likely get people who play 2 builds in pvp and that’s all they’ll play and say it’s perfectly fine.
They say they are coming out with two major patches on in jan on in feb I have to say after waiting 4 months for some of these bugs to be squashed I’m not really all that trusting that they have their schedule or priority fixes together for this. (this is based off of my experience so far where the last three major patches have ALL had nerfs for engineers and fixed nothing but underwater combat which is only about 10% of the combat experience in this title)
The engineering population is going to shrink to almost no one it’s already begun. People are actually denying engis the chance to run dungeons, to do world events all because they nerfed this class despite claiming it was never their focus to do so. (every class was meant to not have issues fighting according to their original statements on combat)
I personally have picked up a new build (AGAIN btw since every patch they nerf something i have to spend money to change everything around just to solo in pve) Even with this new build I have the same miss miss miss problems. Right now I’m using FT with cond burn damage. It’s nothing special trust me but it’s much easier then shooting 30 bullets (with the charr engi hidden pistol) or throwing out 30-39 grenades to kill anything. It really is that bad. The explosive radius bug and the slow cast time of each shot with the pistol doesn’t make for an improved gameplay.
2 hour session report from today.
Hit DR wall 8 times while farming (getting nothing but greys or no loot at all after killing about five mobs in a row)
Results:
36 heavy miners bags
10 gifts
14 whites
8 large bags
41 grey claws
2 greens
5 blues
1 chest
0 exotics
0 rares
I killed 1 veteran three times, no loot any of those times and certainly no rares or exotics.
I am playing on my character that has only 3% mf on one of it’s pieces of jewelry simply because it came with it. No MF food. (about 30 mins before tracking these drops I started off with MF food when i did, i killed 25 enemies, I got more greys then anything else not even bags were dropping so i switched back to nothing).
I was farming the level 76 dredge in Frostgorge (because oddly 1 level lower dropped worse loot go figure /shrug).
Between getting almost nothing on my farming runs and having to deal with the serious issues in my engineering class I’ve just about reached my limit It’s tiresome. This game shouldn’t be a job and we should have rewards for our time open world pve, there should be no question.
I hope they don’t take this out, pets should be able to climb into places where the ranger cannot go especially those that can fly.
They might consider this an exploit tho sadly.
Kool like this idea only tho if they balance it open world rather then the dungeons (because right now I’m being told by everyone the only way to consistantly get these is running dungeons which I’ve had my fill of which is why this game initially interested me for the open world jump-in fun). I’ve been farming the bags lately and I believe them now about the lack of consistancy with these mats.
Bravo I hope you make a change with this post and that it isn’t merged.
I posted recently to another post about this. It would highly simplify the piano playing that engis and even eles have to deal with when switching for different abilities.
This system would be completely optional. It would allow the engi the ability to choose which 1-5 skill uses which kit with each skill.
Bar: 1
button 1: toolkit 2
button 2: toolkit 5
button 3: Pistol 3
button 4: EG 3
button 5: toolkit 3
With this system it would open up so many possibilities to easily take out enemies without the constant piano switching between moves. It would make it much easier to do common moves imo. Right now to play effectively and to keep yourself from having to play the keyboard like a piano you have to have three razer products all macro’d so the key switching doesn’t become horrendous, i feel sorry for people playing with a standard mouse and keyboard with these two classes i can only imagine.
With this system of course one would need to add a button enhancement for the engineer kits to inidicate which kit is equipped more easily.
I would like to request that in the interest of balancing all professions every profession be given the ability to 1 shot enemies with a cooldown similar to the cooldowns given to the Warrior and Thief professions.
I would also like to request that all condition damage abilities (that are not burning) (only poison and bleeding) that do direct condition damage as a main ability (like the engineer’s fumigate, or the ranger short bow poison bolts, or the condition abilities of mesmers that do bleeding or poison) This would balance out the damage output of all classes because right now, the only viable condition damage is burning (on any other class poison and bleeding seems to do hardly any damage and the damage it does, and often has different damage ratios per class, weird since i thought bleeding was bleeding was bleeding and the same for poison surely all of the professions know by now which poisons work the best against enemies). (I Just find it odd that the only profession that can use bleeding or poison well is necromancers)
just some thoughts on this cold winters day.
I would say wait until January because the rumor is they will be changing many a thing and fixing a large number of bugs in Jan Feb so here’s to hoping. Completely agree tho. I just wrote in another post how the entire game of progression is broken and thus is leading people to having to spend RL money for gems to be converted to gold in the store because of it. It’s really not that well done atm, but they did admit to the problems that Fotm posed and I think they will be making adjustments, hopefully those adjustments will require an open all day and night in game vendor for karma for ascended items because that would be the fix imo.
Merry Yule to all!
Even if they use the mystic forge for ascended armors it still won’t be cosmetic and thus harmless.
Let’s look at the trends right now. Right now you cannot hardly find any rares to get ectos, if you choose the crafting route to make rares to salvage you still must spend 30 min farming until that is DR sets in and cuts you off. If you try to do dungeons people will demand that you already have exotic gear to go. If you are a new players not yet hit by the “omgwtfluck” drop rate then you can’t make enough money to buy the armor sets on the TP and further if you tried to put together your own exotic set you will spend months farming for the mats.
If you try the karma route you will have to wait until some RPers log in to Orr or the PVPers get tired of sPVP/WvW or the PVEers get tired of Fotm to actually release the temples to buy anything.
So basically you are almost always hindered in any direction. The only people who argue against the fact that we are being forced to go to the gold shop (what I dub it now because that’s all I’ve done with gems) are the people who’ve had incredible luck in this game. ie getting precursors (which was muddied on Nov 16th) getting rare expensive dyes all the time, making money off of other people because they actually ARE getting rare drops (even in dungeons where drops seem to hit most people the DR bug seems to be cutting people off).
So no it’s not like it was at launch where one could actually put forth some effort and get geared in two weeks and then start working towards the legendary they wanted. Now one must go to the store to get gold before getting the things their toon needs to progress. It’s not a fair system at all. But then again “manipulated RNG” never is fair.
It’s amazing how many people have suddenly become complacent about how wrong the nerfs across the board without a single fix to on-land gameplay all in the name of spvp. Really? No it’s not alright, none of the other classes have to play a piano piece to do what we do everyday not even Eles do, and none of the other classes have to pay the prices we’ve paid to play this class. This is wrong in so many ways. If this class was working 90% as well as the other ones or even had the fluidity of the other classes because more time was spent on them to make them more fluid in their attack combos then they could nerf us, until then they need to buff us to help this class keep up. Too many misses in this class as it is.
I use two superior fire and they don’t do anywhere near enough to justify taking 30% off anything much less the nerfs to all the kits we suffered that they didn’t detail.
If you play this class like you are playing a piano sure we have the same versatility
(/sarcasm off)
Seriously there’s too many skills and way too much switching involved.
Woa there. Rein it in.
“There are too many things!” isn’t really a valid complaint. There are plenty of other classes that don’t have as many skills or the complexity of the engineer—but that complexity is not, itself, a bad thing. In fact, I’d wager that of the people still playing engineer, that complexity is a big part of the appeal. Also, there are builds that don’t require substantial kit swapping. (One could argue about the ‘viability’ of such builds, but that opens the door for a discussion about the ‘relative viability’ of any engineer build compared to other classes, so let’s… not.)
My point is, if the complexity of the class is an object of complaint, play another class. I’m not saying that in a snide way; there are other classes where that complaint would not be an issue.
What is a fair complaint is that the reward should be commensurate with the effort. That is, in the recent class descriptions specific reference was made to the Elementalist’s “skill ceiling” being “exceptional.” The implication being this: they are hard to play well, so in exchange they get to be king of versatility, have good support, control, and damage.
But that same logic applies to the Engineer. I sincerely hope that ANet doesn’t dumb the class down but, instead, accepts that Engi is also an exceptional skill ceiling class, and treats them accordingly.
My point is that if you have to switch to yet another kit to press 5 to switch to another kit to press 4 to switch to yet another kit to press 3 then there’s too many things to do. It’s way out there with their system. We should be able to setup our 1-5 buttons to choose which kits they will be using when we hit the button to fire off an ability. If they were truly interested in keeping up with versatility and making this class less of a discombobulated mess it is now this would be a choice. Right now. I am forced to use the might stacking FT because all of the other kits are so weak we can’t do anything solo with just 1 kit. Really. Not and not take a huge chunk of damage EVERY fight or spend hours killing the same mob. And the age old troll argument of roll another toon isn’t going to solve it because I’m what you’d call a customer and the customer is always right. Also, the king of versatility doesn’t have as much switching as engis do, eles actually use 2-3 abilities under the same focus before switching to the next one, why it’s due to their class having more attention to detail and more attention to how fluid is the gameplay before the release of the game. Seriously, how many classes have the same hoarder’s type mess of an ability list that engis do that we have to use in a specific order if we want to A: do any meaningful damage B: protect ourselves from being facerolled?
You see if they tweaked the system so you are only switching between two bars preset with kit/weapon we want to use for the 1-5 ability for each ability instead of every single kit for every move then it would be less confusing and less of a piano play.
It’s really not that hard to do. Lesser games have had that interface for years on end when dealing with such a large number of button presses to get the job done and the other classes in this very same game save 1 all have that simplicity.
Bar 1:
Button1: Toolkit: 2
Button 2: Pistol: 2
Button 3: Toolkit: 5
Button 4: EG 3
Button 5: Toolkit 3
See what I’m saying there? (typical fighting style when I’m in tanky pve cond build) I could use the escape options on Bar 2: it would save sooo much time to drop the stimulant and use the shield of the toolkit while running.
Of course if our melee damage or bomb damage was worth a fart we wouldn’t have to run so much would we? But that’s another argument. I’m speaking of course only for pve.
(edited by tigirius.9014)
Completely agree OP. It’s a shame that even the physics of our attacks don’t make sense. Explosions don’t happen at the same width as a sword, the sheer lack of range and the cutesy flying all over shots we get that are useless and leave us weakened and vulnerable or make us plummet off buildings and cliffs to our deaths, or how about the horrible skills even our melee kit gives us that don’t even match most 1 hander 3 shot abilities on the melee classes.
This class shouldn’t be a second class citizen. I’m seriously thinking of leaving the game if january’s patch doesn’t deliver some serious buffs and bug fixes above ground for this class! I already foolishly supported one game designer for misrepresenting the power of military technology, won’t happen again.
If you play this class like you are playing a piano sure we have the same versatility
(/sarcasm off)
Seriously there’s too many skills and way too much switching involved.
As I understand it, all skills from all kits were nerfed to varying degrees to compensate for the addition of sigils. Grenade skill 1 was just the one that was nerfed the most so it is why it was highlighted in the patch notes.
That’s what I read as well, but every time i mention it ten people come on here and say that it’s my imagination. I know what I read.
It was nerfed most likely. The thing is they needed to leave the toolbelt alone.
We are. It’s prolly why people have been telling me they have two people working on the fixes. TWO people. I wonder how many the other classes have.
Anyway I hope they update this class in january and if someone is reading this over there no more bug fixes for underwater until land is fixed! Please, it’s like (oh let’s fix the 10% of the game that most people never see or do)
I found yet another bug this evening, when using static discharge and hgh build with FT the discharges go everywhere BUT at the enemy. Seriously they were flying up in the air and down into the ground never hitting anything.
This class needs sooooo much work.
I don’t understand their treatment of us either. No gaming company with a fantasy setting has ever been able to pull this type of class or profession off. They usually nerf everything because people who aren’t us complain constantly. I’m like this, don’t complain make one. You’ll figure out the weaknesses by walking in our shoes for a week.
bomb and grenade explosions are too slow.
bombs and grenades don’t explode with the same radius that a standard sword swing on my Thief produces.
pistol shots still shoot as slow as rifle shots.
These aren’t even suggestions, these are complaints. This thread is for discussing bugs. If you have suggestions, I recommend you make your own topic in the Engineer board or the Suggestions board.
the bomb radius bug has been documented, there’s a problem with it both with and without the trait forceful explosives. with the trait the explosive radius becomes so tiny you have to be inside your opponent for it to go off. It was tested on land tho it was much easier to see in water.
There’s a new one i discovered tonight, well new to me. When using potions from the toolbelt and using the trait Static Discharge, the discharges go up in the air, down on the ground everywhere but the enemy you have targeted and yes they were in range and facing me.
where would you guys suggest i farm heavy bags? I’ve tried googling the topic there doesn’t seem to be any indication of the best places to farm such a thing.
solo outside dungeons please.
I think what they are planning is better personally……..
Instead of having to FIND a group you will be able to go with almost anyone. That’s how it should have been in the first place.
I agree, if their focus was really supposed to be dungeons, we should have been told since before launch instead of being told that open world was the focus, AND they should have had a LFG tool in place at launch.
Now we have a game that has neither and open world environment worth anything and no LFG tool for dungeons.
It’s extremely frustrating.
We have the sneaking suspicion they changed something as well. We tried asking about it, the total repliers reached 1200 posts and was locked, and we were basically told it was all our imagination.
The thread in question focused on loot drop rates, glob drop rates, DR/magic find bugs.
They have a new thread out now to report this kind of thing to.
I enjoy the axe/torch combo with traps because lets face it even with pets enemies eventually aggro to you anyways. I also use the shortbow so i can cause extra bleeding and poison. But I’m condi built on ranger since it works so well. (considering most of the attacks i have are burning)
Actually all classes accept Engineer…you should have put that one in there. You see our trait for the run speed only occurs in battle
Leg mods? speedy kits?
See my earlier post, the amount of speed buffs engy’s have access to dwarves the number mesmer have. Even guardian do pretty well compared to them
All of ours are bugged right now. I guess I should have put that in there. Leg mods doesn’t really give us a boost. tried it before the last few patches and we really don’t have a noticable run speed difference. The leg mods and power shoes thing really doesn’t do anything for us. I even tried using it in conjunction with one another and doesn’t do anything so no we’re in the same boat. Having an interface with some text that says it does something isn’t a guarantee that it does something. Right now for engis it just looks pretty on paper.
We also have the problem of nerfing ourselves to death by choosing anything but glass cannon traits right now because we are so nerfed we can’t do anything but….and now we have to use the pots to move around with speed boosts like mesmers do. So really we’re in the same boat. (unless you’re talking pvp and someone is a tanky support build which then gives engis the freedom to do that) but in pve soloing, might as well suck it up. I personally have the build for flame thrower so i can kill things as quickly as possible right now i’m stuck using a pot to move around.
I can understand the frustration tho. We shouldn’t have to trait for faster speed. The classes that have faster run speed all do it with magical elf signets that make them suddenly move faster somehow. So yeah it’s amazingly annoying to engis too that they can do this and we can’t even tho we have the technology.
(edited by tigirius.9014)
Ok , so all classes get a signet with 25 percent speedboost cept
Mesmer and Guardian??
Warrior has perma swift, fury, might.
Guardian stability shouts last 5 secs and they are supposed to be the boon class.
Should I just make a warrior or will Anet ever balance the classes or will this just continue to be a Warrior, GS Centered Game? Let me know, so I can make the appropriate Main character class choice.
Actually all classes accept Engineer…you should have put that one in there. You see our trait for the run speed only occurs in battle which offsets the slow down affect all classes get when attacked but it doesn’t do a single thing for us when we are moving out of combat, we have to nerf ourselves further by traiting into the line that gives us temp boost to speed for 4 seconds when we equip a kit and spam medkit.
You’ve got it good on guardians you can truck thru things and teleport.
Mesmers can disappear.
Engis are just plain screwed with our “we never know what kind of potion it will be this time” abilities.
Warrior/guardian. Guardian has the best survivability since it self heals tho warrior can just truck on thru enemies like they aren’t there. Seen it a hundred times now in orr.
I am wondering if ‘vend almost everything because almost everything is worthless on the TP’ is the economy they wanted.
I’ve gotten some Masterwork low to mid-level stuff and thought it was sellable, only to go to the TP and see it’s listed for ONE COPPER.
Why? How’s that work? The vendor would give you anywhere from 50c to 1s and change for these items… the materials you’d salvage would be worth almost that much you’d think…
Completely agree with the op. I don’t understand how it can be a higher quality item masterwork for example be listed for 1 copper in the TP then we go to vendor it and it is only 1 silver 4 copper.??? The same goes for the other items Like rares. Has anyone else noticed that? How rares are only worth a couple of silver from a vendor or exotics are only worth a tiny fraction of what the runes of holding cost for example? Not that I’m saying we should sell these things to vendors but I would love a more realistic approach to how much vendors give for these items.
The same goes for the mats these things drop when one tries to take them apart with a salvage kit. I pretty much don’t use any of the other salvage kits anymore because they really aren’t worth the cost. What’s the use of using a masterwork or fine salvage kit if that’s all that’s going to be given to you from salvaging masterwork or fine items is the same stuff you’d be getting when you use the basic kits. Doesn’t make any sense. so basically you have an entirely useless line of items that don’t give you any rare materials from the entirely useless line of drops.
Basically you can just go thru the entire game not salvaging anything but whites, with basic salvaging kits no less, and vendoring the rest because putting the rest on the TP doesn’t get you a thing but pennies or a single penny in this case, and the tiny amount of silver that you get from vendoring these things really doesn’t add up to even a quarter of a gold usually from one farming session and barely takes care of the teleportation costs most incur.
Warrior is definitely the unnerfed op champion of surviving everything and killing anything in 1 shots or 3 depending on your weapon choice (yep nothing else but weapons, don’t need to trait for it either just bam bam bam and everything’s dead.)
You mispelled “Thief”. It’s written “T.H.I.E.F” and not “W.A.R.R.I.O.R”.
;-)
Joke aside, the classe one or two hitting others isn’t the Warrior, but the Thief right now.
Only in one spec, warriors can spec into anything and still three shot or one shot everyone, thus the reason for my suggestion. Thieves have to spec all burst damage crit % and and stealth to do this. Warriors can be bunker spec and still do it.
I don’t have the technical means to do this or I would. I would like to ask those who have the technical means and the talent who suffer from the DR effect, to make videos of the typical open world run in Orr, in the dragon events and submit your video to these forums showing how a series of typical days of farming goes for you.
The only things I would ask is that you must be a farmer, you must play in open world for most of the footage and you must be one of the ones affected by the DR bug or open world loot bug.
It would be very helpful if you could cross compare a typical run from Fotm dungeon to show how starkly different the drops are in that dungeon. The footage typically can be sped up for the purposes of getting to the end of a farming session to show the results of the drops in each case.
I and many like me would be very grateful as this would be plenty of proof showing the contrast and the serious problems faced with open world drops.
It would take an enormous amount of hard drive space to make videos which will contain a sample size to show tangible data.
Unless someone wants to take a thousand hours of video and make spreadsheets with data this is not quite possible.
One job is enough, and that i get paid for.
Oh I’m not talking about a huge number of videos from one person, I’m talking about a single video per person. And not for sample sizes for statistics because that’s in their court, I mean to show the experiences of the players in this game via video capture so people can see for themselves the drops people end up with. (statistics can be handled by them I’m suggesting showing the gaming experience of the players so they see it’s not perceived and showing the community what’s occurring)
Although I agree with this, we shouldnt have to do this.
We shouldnt be forced to WORK and catalog everything. This really is terrible and making people do this is wrong – especially from Anets side when they know what they have done. Are they compensating me for my extra time in gems?We should be able to play and enjoy the game instead we have to do this extra work in order to “prove it isnt perception”. Not you tigirius but Anet.
The word of hundreds of gamers isnt good enough for them then frankly they dont deserve to have a good loyal base.If I can remember to fraps before I start I will. But I have really stopped farming and just log in and to do my trades and log out. I dont make enough in the open world.
But I will try again.
Trust me i completely agree with you, no one was more disappointed about how this thread was handled then me, but this video and if enough get involved multiple releases of these videos by farmers on youtube, would serve another purpose other then just showing Anet the data they are now requesting we repeat to them a second time. It would create awareness in the gaming community about how this is occurring and what happens in this game open world end game everyday.
People often say screenshot or linkit or it didn’t happen. Well if we showed everyone this is happening it would be so much more influential then seeing text in the forum. It might even show new players thinking of getting this title what will happen end game educating them before they spend money and get disappointed like the rest of us have.
Tonight played again for 3 hours.
15 crafting items resources (none of which were T6 btw despite most of these items coming from bags)
4 greens
7 blues
9 gifts
16 whites
11 greys
1 yellow (rare)
This was done in a mid level zone, one which should have definitely dropped rares more often. In the process of the gaming session i killed 6 veterans only two dropped anything 1 was a blue.
Every time I went to actually farm mobs for drops, I would kill four each one dropped an item for crafting (bloods claws) after the fifth one I started to get porous bones. Tried to switch to a new area, started again the same thing happened.
The issue is self control.
No, I’m not one of the power levelers. I have a level 70. That’s pretty much it.
It’s just the time ingame allows for no error.
Maybe it’s not that the game is too hard for me, but maybe just too hard to be fun.
Could I ask which class you were running? because if it was engineer i completely understand why it’s not fun anymore. 5-10 minute fights with regular mobs is never fun.
Warrior is definitely the unnerfed op champion of surviving everything and killing anything in 1 shots or 3 depending on your weapon choice (yep nothing else but weapons, don’t need to trait for it either just bam bam bam and everything’s dead.)
I certainly hope they do all those things but they need to do one major thing first, make these regular mobs. These mobs have entirely too many hitpoints for them to be standard mobs. Surely the races have upgraded their standard equipment by now to make it work well against the karka and I’m sorry but 5% extra damage doesn’t cut it when they are veteran level hitpoints and defenses involved. The only real way to handle these guys is to either be a guardian or a warrior with a two hander and 6 swing your way to victory (turns their 3 swing to six) or you have to reflect their barbs back at them. Otherwise you’ll be there all day with each fight and Dwayna help you if you get more then one.
I’ll agree when GW2 is a Massive soloplayer online role playing game.
I’ve played this game for over 500 hours so far… I’d say that perhaps 30-50 hours total was intentionally grouping with people for gaming.
300 hours of that, was me running around on my various characters playing the game and interacting with various people in game while I was at it.
The remaining time I spent on my characters either in Personal Story instances by myself… or running around the world doing my normal gaming thing and seeing no one else at all. I would venture to say that I’ve likely solo’d a minimum of 200 Dynamic events, some going on consecutively whilst others simply back to back… with at least one Meta event solo’d in there as well.
I’m on Jade Quarry, by no means a small population server… so though I don’t like the sound of what I’m about to say -
GW2 is the most Massive soloplayer online role-playing game I’ve ever participated in
It was until the recent changes.
Now to get any drops you HAVE to be in a dungeon and HAVE to be in a group.
Now to see new content you HAVE to be in a dungeon and HAVE to be in a group.
If this trend continues the choices will dwindle even further pushing the players away. Mmos aren’t always about grouping, there’s many things people should be able to do without ever stepping foot in a dungeon or ever grouping with another person. Originally this game was all about choices, now we’re being herded into groups like patrons at a carnival waiting to get on rides, “only five at a time please”
If I wanted to play that type of game I would have stayed with World of Warcraft. We were told that open world metas would be added to the game just after launch and that metas being the focus would be the way they would do the new content for this game so they could involve EVERY player and never create a caste system where a smaller percentage of players would see the content. We’ve not seen a single new meta since launch and it’s going on 4 months now. Granted they’ve been working on a rather large list of bugs, but I would much rather see meta events then Fotm and much rather have seen new metas then holiday events personally. Not only that I would have wanted to see these metas in mid level zones. to bring players to these zones so that at level 40 new players aren’t sitting around wondering where the entire population of the Full servers are.
So in essence I agree with OP.

These can be minor I wanted to request collar system where two trinkets could be attached to pet collars to allow for enhanced stats and protections. Something simple but fun sold by karma vendors and made by crafters alike.
I don’t for one thing the cleaner should not be interruptable since other classes have instant cond removal every 5-10 seconds without pressing anything. Second, the boon booster shouldn’t be interruptable either, since we use alchemy not spellcasting to achieve the desired result everything is either a potion or a bandage. The heal channel thing is a good idea unless it’s something we can use on ourself and on the fly. but this game’s healing abilities weren’t meant to be target abilities so why make this one a target ability it would require using an already shoddy system of trying to anchor target a friendly and it’s not useful in large events.
The reason why these were made drops was due to the nature of target control being iffy in the game.
Now if they made the bandage ability drop three bandages with the separation much like the poison grenades. I do like the potion protection but i feel it would be more useful if it had a direct stability boon. I think we are seriously lacking in the boon department so instead of the boon booster I think this one should be changed to a plasma potion (much like the ones that thieves steal from enemies in Orr) that gives all the boons for a duration. (something that classes like the guardian enjoys).
This setup would be more viable and remove much of the frustration people feel with this class’s randomness.
Well I for one hate artificially inflated or artificially deflated fighting. It happened to LOTRO. I played that game for years and suddenly with the release of mirkwood the regular mobs gained resistances to abilities so every single battle seemed like it took 5-10 minutes to kill anything until they added armor and weapons that lowered the enemies resistances. It was amazingly annoying. Needless to say I left the game until they fixed it. A similar thing is happening here with this one class all in the name of versatility. The problem is there’s another class that’s just as versatile that doesn’t have a single problem getting their bugs fixed immediately sometimes within the same patch day when requested by the players.
I tend to see a few people who seem to be in denial about how wrong this deflation is on this class and prefer to have it harder, I just can’t understand why anyone would think that it’s okay to treat one set of players differently then another.
Between the glaring issues with this class and the loot problems if your main is an engineer you pretty much have twice the disappointment in how this game is being handled. I know I do right now. smh.
Flame blast’s problem is that It can’t be ‘BLAST’ if you missed shot.
If you missed, your fire just fall to ground and doesn’t burst.
Its really annoying as flame jet’s unreliable accuracy.
Every engineer want its BLAST damage not its MISSILE damge.
Even FT has big aoe damage potential,
FT can’t do big damage UNLESS foes just STAND LIKE A TOYSo i suggest my idea. Make Flame Blast be Ground-target skill like grenade.
It will improve skill shot’s stability and can make FT powerful.
No they can easily code it to explode on impact of the target which would open up a whole new world of possibilities. It could still fly thru targets until it reaches the main target then explode so it’s usefullness could still be whole and felt by the enemy.
We’ve seen reports from players questioning the randomness of the drop mechanisms in GW2 and in particular asking if it’s been changed recently. This is not the case and we don’t think that the randomness mechanism is misbehaving, but we’re running some data to be sure there isn’t anything unexpected going on. So far nothing shows anything suspicious but we’ll keep gathering data and analyzing it. We’ve also created a thread where players can share with us their concrete data about any perceived strange drop behavior they encounter:
Thanks for your understanding and help!
Thanks for your response. I have to say that it definitely feels like a slap in the face when you describe our collective experiences as perceived. I found the other post even more disturbing then this one requiring empirical data, we keep track of these things daily and this thread is packed full of responses to our daily activities and the results thereof. This isn’t 1-2 people standing around the mystic forge in LA talking about how to make a big deal out of a tiny glitch. This has been going on for over a month now. To suggest even in an innocent way that it’s all perceived is insulting our intelligence….
I posted today’s numbers to the other thread but I can’t help but feel a very strong desire to shelve this game for months or a year until all of the problems perceived or not are worked out properly, if at all.
So to give you some perspective, after launch, While farming at level 80 I would get 2-3 rares per hour from regular mobs, every chest in the world (nonevent) would drop 1-2 rares, every dragon chest i got would drop 1-2 exotics and at least 2 rares, every champion i fought dropped at least 1 rare. Mobs that i would farm would never need magic find to get basic needs like powerful blood or powerful venom sacs to drop. I didn’t use magic find at all in the beginning to get anything to drop. After the first nerf, I had to use magic find to get anything to drop like it used to, after then it went downhill.
So logged in just after the mini patch tonight. The drop rates haven’t changed. Defeated four vets and 2 champs across 3 zones all 55+ my totals are below. I tried to farm across multiple zones, with and without MF, with mf on i only got the resources like blood claws fangs, mostly whites and greys. without magic find i get 4-5 blues before DR set in and porous bones dropped there on out. My magic find was 30% as members of my guild got all kinds of rares this evening using nothing but the guild buffs (both the three day and the banner), accept the one member who got the most was the guild master and he was using the store bought 50% magic find and received a total of 9 rares this evening by running Fotm. He didn’t get a thing from open world either.
My totals for tonight were this:
15 whites
11 blues
2 greens
14 body parts (4 of which were T5)
0 rares
0 exotics
I fought a total of 4 veterans and 2 champions across three level 55+ zones as a level 80 player over a three hour period.
Not only did he get the most because it was most likely the store bought mf boon (i
suspect) But it was solely doing Fotm. None of my guildies are getting anything from open world anymore, that’s all they do is this one dungeon over and over again to get anything to drop. The system is not working I cannot believe people are running numbers this late after we’ve been complaining for a month now. This should have been checked the first day we started the 1100k+ thread and the three other threads we posted about the same thing in subforums. Only one of which was answered before today. This isn’t an illusion or a misconception. While you are running the numbers be sure and separate how many drops are from open world PVE and how many drop from Fotm, and how many drop from WvW. Include whether the person has DR turned on on their account (because it seriously does not turn off for some of us). So we can actually see the real results because I suspect, the numbers will show a large negative in the open world vs the dungeons notably strongly lower then the Fotm compared to the older dungeons.
Edited: to add the real numbers and to include the way this game would play before the first drop nerf almost three months ago occurred.
