just remove initiative and replace it with CD’s like EVERY class and that would fix a lot of the problems with thieves even going into stealth since they would have to wait like any other class to use their escape skills.

Being afk would explain not reacting at all or seeing it coming.

I usually blow a stun breaker whenever they use basilisk on me (I assume he did with Steal)
ele utilities are better than mesmer sicne u can pop mist form and take 0 dmg mesmer cant do that even if u use decoy u will still take some dmg

Sure its much more skillful to manage to disengage with engie in comparison to ele and imo engie has higher skill cap but lay back for a second and THINK.

He has nothing because his burst and his only chance to set up damage is throught the few ccs he has which are no match for engie.I need to use updraft or earth quake for burning speed or especially dt /phoenix ,i need the earth immobilise for drakes breath/ fire grab etc.
Ele doesnt have an abudance of ccs like engie and what he has is for setting up his damage.So remove rtl as escape mechanic and theres no escape for ele at all during a normal fight.People keep saying ele doesnt require skill since your heal is op etc etc..
The skill as an ele is not at surviving ..its actually at landing your skillshots and doing the most damage you can as well.
I dare you to play a s/d burst ele build with elem surge and arcanes..your opinion about what requires skills and what you need to do to do the most damage you can will change for sure..Wasted efforts….

That’s the map mechanic on temple of the silent storm. When the match timer hits 8:30, a buff appears at the very end of the bridge over the water area. It’s a 10-second channel, and if you get it, your team instantly takes all the points.

gl in a pug getting them to all “chain immob” and most spvp have 2-3 of these so the buffs/heals and cond removing is alot especially when ur group doesnt have one
so has anyone seen this happen before? i was just in a game i got out of and we just capped the gate some of us ran to the next node, i was not more than halfway off the node that the bell goes of ur “enemy has all the points”. we JUST capped the gate how could it insta turn against us with no one there capping it?
it was a close game with the node turning magically against us we lost 495 to 500 cause we had to run back and recap the node we just took >.>

I wouldn’t be too sure about the subscribers rate because most of them just bots or people from cages farming gold to post websites to give ya free gold for lots of money. That’s the where the subscription rate comes from. I mean why not it’s a great deal and no one will ever know because WoW is only $15 a month and to those bots / farmers who sell gold on websites it’s pocket changes. They can purchase as many copies of WoW as long people like us “not me though” buy gold from them etc etc the cycle continues.
i guess the same can be said of gw since on a regular basis i get whisp/emailed ingame by gold sellers. to suggest that a majority of the player base in WoW are farmers is just ridiculous since gold is so easy to farm like 2 yrs back. it still doesnt negate the point that people are still willing to p2p a game 7 yrs old and with a larger player base than gw2 b2p
Well that’s an easy answer because WoW easy to play than it is here in GW2. You can’t tank 30 mobs as a higher level here than you can do in WoW and go afk as a healer because your hp regen high as well. The list will go on between comparing the two game.

That’s not trolling because that’s fact. You can dodge a fireball attack in here which relies on endurance while in WoW you have use a skill to dodge which last 20 seconds.
again ur not talking “skill” ur talking game mechanics since there is no healer in this game of course u cant tank 30mobs and thats true of any game where there is no healer.
Servers tend to “die” when the big guilds leave it (Let’s take the exemple of HoD, IoJ and SBI). I’m curious about if there is a server that still actively play WvWvW even after such “death”.

They shouldn’t be deleted from the game at all, it takes any skilled player a matter of seconds to decipher the player from the clones. Also, in regards to beating them, I find AOE attacks and just being patient to find the right target is crucial to beating them.

I dont know what the game is like now but I played it from launch into being a top rated arena player for years. GW2 is a wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy behind on skill based pvp sadly Anet seems like they want the games pvp to die they are sticking to the farm based system for PvP.
you must be very clear when you say “skill based pvp”, because it seems like you are referring to ratings & not gameplay. focus targeting, enemy cast bars & cooldown trackers make wow VERY EASY to play. not to mention that game uses passive defense mechanics instead of active ones.
i loaded up reckful’s twitch out of curiosity a few weeks ago, one of the first things i heard was kitten he dodged my full kidney". a passive RNG defensive stat saved their team’s life. in GW2 when you hear kitten he dodged my illusionary leap", you know the player actively did something to preserve their life.
I just dont understand what they are thinking, who are they listening too what ‘pvpers’ are telling them the QP system is fine? The people that like the QP system dont like real competition just garbage farmers.
i’m pretty sure all top pvp players hate the QP system. there is no reason to add QP before they announce their first monthly tournament, it’s a pointless currency in the current state of the game. but it’s the only totem pole to be climbed as it stands.
there is no question that ANet is screwing the pooch right now. awesome product with no support, we all know it. i don’t even care about systems at this point, i am waiting for the announcement stating, “We have hired new PvP staff.” i want pvp class reps & internal pvp teams that test new content thoroughly ( seriously, how does the necro / war vengeance bug get to live state? ) & actively engage the meta themselves instead of basing balance off of feedback.
what happened to ANet’s competitive edge? where are ANet’s Arena Teams? i remember seeing ANet play other teams at press events & they would play teams in tourneys in GW1 as well ( like, the tourney winner would get a chance to fight ANet’s team ). now they can’t even form a team themselves with 2 squad members. sounds like The Heart of the Mists in ANet’s HQ is just as populated as most in-game.
i had a lot of fun with WoW, but for me the golden era was the end of vanilla b/c 10v10 was just balanced better. arena introduced heavy heavy use of mods, funnelled classes into few viable specs & had far too much counter comping. deathmatch is also super boring to both play & watch. conquest is 1000% more interesting than deathmatch to me ( opinions are like onions, they always make me cry ).

The skill requirement to play this game is much higher then WoW/Rift. Im sorry but it is true. I have played every single on of those game soley for pvp.
One of the reasons there are also a lot of people who do not play pvp in this game is because they aren’t good at it lol. Im sorry but this is so true, and any top pvp player would agree. There are very few that are good, and even some that are better then the “average” aren’t that great at team mechanics. You cannot carry people in this game. Gear will not carry you or you don’t have passive mechanics/skills that will save you or carry you either. Mods/macros cannot be used to simplify things for you either. You can’t steam roll or one shot people because you just completely outgear them.
Individual skill is a must as well as team play, otherwise will not be a top player. Even if you have the first quality, doesnt mean you have the second.Also the mentality of a lot of MMO players is not that of an athletes. Reason I say this is because rather then working on perfecting their skill, they feel if they cant do any of the stuff i mentioned above, and they know they cant be the best, they won’t play it and go off and venture into something else where they feel they can be carried or feel as if they are the best aka WvW. Now im not putting WvW down because WvW is fun, but a game that requires so much out of each individual person in a PvP game is not what people are used too. Therefore you have people who stray away from it.

I don’t know the logic behind this, i don’t even know its supposed to work like that, But..
Mesmer portal = extremely game-breaking hence people bug abuse iti was playing paids in the new map temple of the silent storms and as usual we all start preparing for the underground buff that takes 10 seconds to get..
at 8.30 the buff spawns, we start a fight there,, and then all of a sudden a mesmer comes, activates invulnerability and then he starts channeling the buff…then he opened a portal…ported out..and when we was about to finish the cap, he ported back in, in result of capping the buff without even being there.And i was just shocked, because i just stood there like an idiot,

it must have been lick wounds? it’s buggy and only works sometimes. On land it can not out-heal even the lowest dps classes, it’s much weaker than revive rate of another plater, but underwater for some reason it can outheal multiple people if they have low dps.
could have been regen from a fern hound too i think? but weird that you percieved it to be a sudden “jump” in health.

i play ranger and can safely say that i win 95% of my 1v1’s.
the trap ranger specs is one of the most balanced but effective builds in the entire game. spike traps immobilize combine with fire traps pulse and shortbows positional advantage, leaves any opponent loaded with conditions that can be re-applied with a short cooldown.now im not saying that you can just roll this class and stomp face, but if you take time to master the ranger, you will become unbeatable 1v1. (trap spec or beast master spec, against any class or build, including d/d ele’s)

I play ele almost exclusively and I think a “nerf” – or adjustment, call it whatever you want – will be very good for the class. The builds people are playing right now are very easy, in particular healing and condition removal happen almost entirely for free. Add unmatched mobility and you really lower the skill floor for this class.
I think this promotes bad play because players don’t need to be aware of their positioning, they don’t need to be careful about timing their cleanses, etc. Sure, at a high level of play, eles who go into water at the wrong moment are going to get blown up, so it’s not like these players can disregard positioning and timing cleanses.
no class is more mobile that the thief, can remove conditions with their heals, when they go into stealth and dish out more dmg from range or upclose in 1/5 the time it takes a d/d ele to dish out dmg. no spammable good skills and long cd’s + min 9 sec swaps to attunements. bad ele’s die quickly and u cant play GS d/d and wanna get into melee range lol but u can with almost any other class and have more survivability.

This is just a list of changes I’d like to see for the focus, “the forgotten set” from last year, the focus was extremely good in the beginning but then got nerfed a little too much in my opinion, these below are the skills I feel have been nerfed too hard and should be reverted back to a more reasonable status:
1)Fire Shield
-It was 30s in February 2012 with the same effect of today, then it got suddenly nerfed to 40s CD for no apparent reason and with no other changes, I believe that 30s CD was more than reasonable and 40s CD is just too high for the effects we get, it’s only burning we’re talking about no chill like for frost aura where the 40s CD is legitimate, or leave it at 40s CD but increase the aura duration to 6s.2)Gale
-Around June of last year the 50s CD was justified from the fact that the Knockdown effect was 3s and hence superior to earthquake, but now the Kd has been reduced by 1s and we now have got a weaker version of earthquake for single target only and with 5s CD extra, maybe 3s KD is not so OP as you thought initially seen as guardians can have a 3s KD every 15s ( spirit hammer), therefore the 50s CD of gale is totally infair and should be lowered to at least 40s CD even though 35s CD would be ideal; but for 50s CD the Kd effect should be no less than 3sI’d love to see thse kind of changes this months, it would make the focus more viable for sure
focus is a weapon that shouldnt be used as it gimps ur offense as well as defense by removing mobility in favor of “cool” skills that have way too long CD’s all focus skills do ZERO dmg leaving u with either MH dagger or MH scepter.dagger doesnt synergize with OH focus and u lose a nice heal + cond removal and aura +buffs..
quick questions i was wondring how fire dmg is calculated since it stacks for duration and not intensity? for ex: if i use my signet of fire for 3k dmg over 8sec then fire breath that does 1.5k over 8 sec as well how is the dmg calc?
The ele class has so many bad skills its shameful that they are actually thinking of nerfing the d/d bunker build as if we have something else to fall back on? the single target dmg of the scepter is just laughable, fire all the fire skills are either slow F1 useless F2 F3. slow but semi useful for the buffs E1 slow and omg if i thought F1 was slow >.> E1 is superslow and does less dmg than F1 E2 a buff E3. a weak atk with a blind which isnt that great anyway. W1 = lol W2 wtf were the dev’s thinking? and W3 a heal. L1 still kinda bugged on animation does minimal dmg and is a channel skill though its not for the +400 for toughness trait…L2 another minimal dmg skill on too long a cd and L3 blind >.>
even if you go GC its not worth it to be 2shot by any random HS spammer in Spvp so ur still forced to go semi binker which further gimps the dmg of this set up
Focus out of the 8 skills has maybe3-4 useful ones but still way too long of a CD to be useful in the short term. while the invul/reflect are nice they are so short, nothing more useful than to keep u alive for an extra few sec BUT you have ZERO mobility.. along with minimal dmg.
there is a reason 99% of ele go d/d because all other options are bad even when specced “right” they either dont do dmg or do minimal dmg and leave u with ZERO defence.. Cause even when specced into s/d or s/f i usally have around 3.3k defense and still can take a great deal of crit dmg and cant output enough dmg while im invul/reflecting wut have you. Now when u compare what d/d can do the utility the mobility the ability to heal and deal enough dmg to last long enough its no wonder when we look over at s/d /s/f or d/f its not an option.
I just started playing Dagger/Focus this week and it’s pretty fantastic. You of course loose the offhand dagger’s extra damage (fire), ice shield/heal/Condition Removal (water), mobility/control (air), and knockdown/damage (earth). But you make up for those with some pretty amazing defensive skills, a different interrupts, some long range skills, and two combo finisher options.
Obviously there’s a few ways to build around it, such as an excellent condition removal/support build: http://goo.gl/WJWn2

But I’m currently experimenting with a Glyph build that has amazing long lasting boons and really nice damage output: http://goo.gl/NJlu4
And here’s a summary of the Focus skills for you:
Fire & Focus gets an Flame Wall that lasts for 8s, can be placed up to 900’ away, can be used with your Earth/Dagger Magnetic Leap to apply Fire Shield to yourself, or in a Blast Combo Finisher to gain AOE Might from your other Focus skills. Fire shield is the second ability and a great way to return damage to your enemies, and if you build your character around auras, you can use this spell to gain long lasting Swiftness & Fury buffs (electricity I).
Water & Focus gets Freezing Gust, which does a little damage, has a 3s chill, and can be cast 900’ away. It’s fantastic when you want to extend the chill duration from Frozen Blast, catch up to another player, or if you just want to slow enemy cooldowns from a safe range. The second ability is Comet which comes with an amazing 2s AOE Daze and a Blast Finisher!
Air & Focus has Swirling Winds, which destroys all missiles in a 450’ radius for a whopping 6s! And Gale which is a 2s knockdown castable from 900’ away.
Earth & Focus has Magnetic Wave which damages enemies, cures 3 conditions, reflects projectiles for 3s, is a Blast Finisher, and only on a 25s cooldown! And finally there’s Obsidian Flesh which makes you completely invulnerable for 4s!
d/f s/d s/f have nothing on D/D its fun to toy around with it but if u really wanna be serious about pvp then u go d/d as that is the best set up for 1. dmg and 2. defense and 3. buffs
horrible title, but generally as a mesmer rangers pose no threat to me, but I fought this one ranger on a dueling spvp map and he beat me every time..
Just like elementalists, Rangers need to figure out the best builds and strategies…. elementalists complained so long and then one guy uploads a video of him owning people with his dagger/dagger build and now look at them… without any changes to their class the majority of them learned to play the correct way.

Yeah I just played a match where some guy just AFK in the starting room for what seemed like the entire match. I’d understand if you have to go to the bathroom or something for two minutes but anything longer than that is just stupid. You are hurting your team and just letting the other team zerg everyone on your team and every time I respawn I have to look at that stupid person sitting like a lame-duck in the starting area.
exactly why i posted this, had 2 people sitting there afk entire event, just to have them in the next even also afk so i left for another group

Recently while fighting a ranger underwater in calricorn i noticed this….Rangers downed pet heal is Astonishingly strong underwater… I killed a ranger underwater today on Capricorn (1v1) and we had mid, there were 2 sharks chomping on him and me DPSing him in his downed state, his downed damage ended up downing me, AND HE REZZED from his pet with 2 sharks and me damaging him. It was ridiculous, since you can’t stomp underwater. The ranger whispered me and was laughing “lol that just happened, that kitten is op.” I couldn’t believe it. We really need to be able to stomp someone underwater.
I have had other players similarly agree with me on this, and I was just wondering if any others have had this issue?
Note I’m not calling for nerfs to the rangers downed state just yet, just looking for some input from others, with not being able to stomp a player underwater the only option is to attack them to kill them, with the pet heal the ranger can continually attack you while gaining life.

how do u plan on exiting combat? outside of LF which when on the run you cant take advantage of the range on it.
The patch has it’s upsides and downsides for me. Upside – engineer finally feel somewhat content, they got some buffs, and may gotten viable now in pvp ( still waiting for gw3 to finish download – 700mb and 20% lol ), as it appears turret builds may be viable now( dunno yet, still need testing), on the downside, eles got buffed instead of nerfed ==> biggest “lol” of this patch, enjoy bunker teams pwning in tournaments with hopes for the next patch.

i dont like it for the pvp though i havent tried it yet but storyline content i love and am willing to drop some $$ to upgrade my account. its better than the utter frustration in gw2. i came for the pvp only, left aion to come here and left cause of the pvp >.> playing swtor souly for the pve/story line but ilove it and this is from someone who hates!!!! pve

If your company sells a product that isn’t doing well nor meeting the expectations of stakeholders (which would be us, the community). Then that company has to do better to change their trajectory.
In this situation, I’d be perfectly happy with them losing their jobs so the IP can go to a company that can actually deliver the goods.

I must say I’m really not a fan of Artificial intelligence in pvp. I think this will forever be one thing that keeps me from really getting into the pvp in this game. I can’t stand being forced to fight the computer, and this game has an over abundance of pets basically.
i just got out of a match with 4 mesmers = 16 mesmers right at the jump off spot in the silent storm with a bunker guardian and 2 rangers and a necro needless to say we lost :/. 2 pets + 6 clones and 4 from the necro makes for a huge cluttered mess trying to target. add in the fact u have 3 mesmers going in and out of stealth? = port to the HOTM to look for another match up
Invis is one of the most fail mechanics u can introduce into a pvp setting because its pretty simple if u cant see it u cant hit it = free to move around/heal/exit a battle. Being able to go invis during combat is a fail its easy to understand adding into the fact that the mesmer can produce clones of itself that 1. do dmg 2. do dmg when killed 3. can be commanded to shatter on u for dmg or debuffs or buffs on the mesmer is easily OP’d. its bad on ANY class
Yes, you can hit someone invisible. Aoe, attacking without seeing. Anticipating. Even debs basically said “learn to play” when talking about the theme… They arent a problem neither in high level pvp. To give an example of what you can do, before you can leave shadow refuge with the thief, you have to stay around 3-4 seconds where aoe or area auttoattacks kitten you.
The dmg of the clones is not really a heavy problem, is more sustained than burst, and really long sustain, its not heavy dmg at all. And its their mechanic, so sorry man, they are and WILL be like that. i don’t find that many trouble killing them, you just need to learn more how they move, how they work. They cant create them out of thin air, their cooldowns are actually pretty high for duelist and stuff. And the mesmer is not really a burster, his dmg is pretty ok for my taste. Shattering them leaves them in a bad position if they dont do it well.
15 sec for duelist high pretty? lmao and it doesnt do mnimal dmg neither does the zerker they both will hit easily for 2k repeatedly and cause a debuff dude learnt eh class

See THAT is ridiculous. I don’t care what you say to defend it I played D/D thief since beta and its always been ridiculous to the point of it becoming boring and redundant. Basilisk Venom > Assassins Signet > Cloak and Dagger > Steal before CnD animation ends > Backstab > HS if needed.
You have to be moderately fast with this combo. The amount of time taken to do what you just posted is pretty high considering any profession with a shield/invulnerability can see u a mile away buffing and simply deny the basilisk. Or a simple stun breaker followed by heal works just fine. I`m done defending my profession fiercely since it`s starting to have a negative impact on my forum privileges. So i`m relaying you politely that it can`t be done most of the time and if u can it won`t take the staggering amount of 15k hp in 0.3 sec or w/e that poster said.
it takes no time to do this combo since u can just macro it to 1 button wtf r utalking about
1- A dps burst can’t oneshot a bunker guardian unless he just sits there watching porn on the other window…
2- Macros are bannable because actuallly a macro can be considered a bot breaking the law 1 press = 1 action
yea and im sure there are no hackers or botters in gw2 no way !
Why do everyone always assume that you spec for 100% boon uptime duration and Evasive Arcana? I always avoid those two, heh.

Hi guys, just wanted to share w my fella eles a build ive been running for the passed few weeks.
I wanted to play sth a lil different than the 0/10/0/30/30 or 0/0/10/30/30 since thats all i see on d/d eles lately and it seems to be a pretty standard way to play.
that’s because if u run less than 30 into water ur not gonna be able to heal very well since u 1. wearing lowest base gear so take most dmg and 2 if ur plan on playing spvp plan on being focus every time u engage since ur always in melee range and need all the healing u can get.
A glass thief can’t down a bunker solo…even if he’s really good, if you play bunker and a burst thief can down you solo you’ve better to l2p your spec….the only class that can down a bunker guardian solo, if played good, is necro….but a glass thief just can’t, when i go bunker with guardian i can laugh at D/D thieves all day long….and noone playing bunker at just a decent level have problems with a glass thief, you can actually end killing him despite your low dmg while laughing with full hp and maybe writing stuff like “Have you finished? I have to smoke my cig..” in say chat..
Glass thieves are dangerous in 1vs1 only if you run a glass spec too, like every other glass…or in team fights where thief’s role is to down half hp focused targets
if ur at 1/2 hp u will die bunker or no bunker to a glass thief in 2 hs’s
The clones of the mesmer dont have an AI, so its just a little experience to know which one is the real. The invi doesnt last too much and cant spam it neither, so its not such a big problem.
Thief’s invi is its defense mechanic, as the eles multiple skills, the warrior endure pain and armor, the guardians armor and aegis and tons of stuff he has, mesmer clones and invis etc. Each one has a defense mechanic on its own, the only difference is that thief’s invi is more spammable maybe. But its not uncounterable, on the contrary of endure pain for example.
I dont know about rangers, yet i can beat them as they can beat me, so me personally i dont see a problem.
Elementalist pet is not something you use for a pvp build, since its not made for it. But don’t expect to every pet of every class to be able to be used in the same way, the game doesnt want in any way to all the classes be the same. Elem is a mage, not a summoner, so its more an add than a crucial part of the class.

all pets dont have to be the same but if u give 1 class pet a UI and my pet doesnt have a UI that becomes a minor problem, but it becomes a major problem when u have multiple pets hitting u that cc and can be recalled with no downside to the owner
Here are some things i would like to be improved!
1.I m not able to switch the skills within my skillbar, so my skills for exp. greatsword
are forced to be in the order of 1-5 and i can t switch thm for like 1,4,5,2,3.2.Also it would be nice to see what my enemy is doing like which skill he is casting at which moment. I want to understand what he is doing and interact like this for me it feels like everyone is just playing his thing and lacks of dynamic.
3. The update that someone is not allowed to change his weapons in a SPvP Tournement anymore while not in comabt restricts playstyle to a very simple not interactive way and causes games to have their destiny before they have already started. (I’m not talking about changing traits nor armor)

Thieves and mesmers are supposed to be masters of 1v1. You shouldn’t be able to beat them in a 1v1 with any class (except maybe ele).
thats the worst comment ever, cause if that is the case just make a team of mesmers 5 mesmers against anything else would always lose…think b4 u post
