If you have been playing on your core account during the time when those episodes went live you will be able to do them normally, as a story, without any additional cost.
If you haven’t been playing recently (dates specified by user above) and just plan to buy hot and jump into the game you will only be able to complete 3rd episode and 1st and 2nd will be available for you to buy with gems.
Someone from my team asked today what “close” means because he doesn’t play the game much and doesn’t know, then proceeded to go close with another player and got heavily insulted by him.

Invulnerability is a huge problem. Being immortal while still able to deliver full damage is ridiculously op and that is the first thing that should be changed in order to balance pvp.
Now the real problem is balancing was done around that invulnerability, so right now you would have to rework all professions completely in order to fix the game.

But yes, the lag is mega annoying and makes fights much harder. I find myself very often in a situation where after engaging I cannot cast any skills and then suddenly all of them are cast at the same time making me do stupid things or simply wasting cooldowns.
For startes they could fix the lag issues present in zerg vs zerg situations.
Mace/shield was always meta in spvp, check builds people ran in 2014 (gs+mace/shield or hammer/mace+shield).

Are you for real? GW2 uses rating system invented for chess which is a 1v1 game? xD Anet keeps on surprising me.
If you want to play pvp you have to buy hot, but hot isn’t worth its price. Once in a while they reduce the price 50%, so if you want to buy it I would wait for that. It’s not like it is expensive, but what you get isn’t worth the full price they want for it.
As for pvp it is in horrible state at the moment and really hit new lows over the years (I started playing 3 months after initial release). The best meta build is dh meditrapper who basically stands on his traps dpsing enemies with a bow xD How the kittening kitten such build became meta? I have completely no idea but pvp is swarmed with guardians at the moment.
Apart from that there are plenty of issues haunting pvp, you can read about them on the forums. If pvp is your only point of interest in this game I strongly advise against coming back/buying the expansion.

As for the topic:
unblockables go trough reflect, but flaming fury is not a reflect, it “destroys projectiles” as per skill description in contrary to other skills that actually reflect (“Spin around, reflecting missiles and hitting enemies.”, “Reflect projectiles while damaging nearby foes.”, etc.).
I think what really happened here is they made a skill supposed to destroy projectiles but in the end treat it as a reflect and that is the reason why unblockables still hit you during flaming fury.
They should update the skill tooltip.

So I’m a long time World of Warcraft player, I like WoW but I hate paying $15.00 a month and feeling like I’m obligated to play, feeling like I have to play every waking minute to keep up with everyone. Is this Guild Wars 2 as well or is it more casual friendly? I hear good things about it so I broke down and bought it hope I’ve made the right choice as things download.
No you haven’t. After playing wow on global servers for a long time you will be pretty disappointed with quality of content in gw2. I hope you at least got it for 20€ when it was on sale instead of paying the full (highly overpriced) value.
If you still dig wow and paying the fee is your only problem with that game I would rather think about getting subscription paid with gold.

Hard to say, longbow seems to be meta for quite some time already (greatbow, hambow, macebow…) and as someone on reddit noticed as soon as they allow us to equip same weapon twice without sharing cooldowns new meta will be bowbow.

This extends to drops as well, like viper recipes. I have them all unlocked, but instead of a simple if /than program statement—they just keep dropping instead of a check and then awarding something else.
This would be great, in WoW it worked like that, but in gw? I don’t think anet cares about improving the game that much.

I also like wvw most. pve doesn’t interest me at all, pvp is horribly boring in this game, but wvw is something unique.
They could focus more on wvw and less on spvp since focusing on spvp doesn’t work out for them anyways, but I read they don’t care about wvw and main focus right now is on spvp and fractals.

Wvw was great experience on underworld few years ago, but then top wvw guilds migrated with free migration and since then it is horrible, they had to mix us with other servers because there wasn’t enough ppl :/
Is there any reason for armor/weapon/trinkets stats like marauder/trailblazer/viper/etc. to be account bound? This is so annoying, I cannot buy them from trading post and have to craft every single kitteng thing.
I know there are hordes of people who love crafting but there are as many who hate it. I think I don’t care anymore about this being changed sometime soon as I already leveled every profession I needed, but still, why such decision?
Is it to go with the flow in game market regarding mats grinding and crafting in every single game? I still buy mats on trading post, so the only thing I have to do is run between trading post and crafting stations. What is the point in that?
It’s not like it is pistol’s 5 + heartseeker. I mean that is correct but there is more to be told. You get stelath by using blast or leap finisher in smoke combo field.
In case of dagger/pistol you create smoke combo field with 5, and heartseeker is leap finisher, but these are not the only options. You can also blast cluster bomb for aoe stealth.

Thieves send more QQ tells after losing more than any class I fight. For a while I thought it was because I simply run into more thieves roaming, but I started keeping track of the number of tells by class a few months ago. Thieves are nearly 10 times more likely to send a QQ tell than any other class.
Why do you think thieves top that list? Not complaining just curious.
Interesting side note, most of the QQ tells from thieves come from stealth stacking D/P gank builds. I have rarely gotten a tell from PP, SP, PD, etc.

Just read your post. It sounds like you got your butt delivered to you on a plate by some low skill thief and you had the urge to tell the world you aren’t bad, but I guess no one will care about it and your “problem”.
As for qq biggest whiners are guardians at the moment. From my experience the amount of guardians who insult you on whisper and block you is far higher than any other profession.
Since the patch launched my guild mates have been playing PvP to get ascended armour. Some of them already have 1 full set and starting work on their second set.
How did they do that with limit on shards?
I think on top of everything else that’s been stated it also doesn’t help that there’s a ton of projectile hate from a lot of other classes.
Which suprises me that bow is used so much.
Rifle has nothing. Only useful skill is gun flame as it dazes/interrupts, does good damage and can be cast while moving with relatively low cast time. Kill shot on the other hand is crap and I cannot think of any situation it could be used in. Long cast time, relatively low damage and you have to stay in place while casting, your enemy has to be a total idiot to get hit by a kill shot. Skills are also meh and outside of berserker mode they are only good for generating adrenaline at distance trough shooting at vulnerable targets with 1, but you got only 1 adrenaline per shot, so it also isn’t that great. This is mostly useful when you chase someone and cannot hit him with gs.
Now longbow on the other hand… Longbow compared to rifle is like day and night. You get aoe, you get good damage, you get conditions, you get crowd control…
Now let’s see another thing: what combo fields are available to a warrior? Oh, only fire field. And how do I cast it? Oh, with longbow (or torch on 25 s cd…). Then you have three different finishers: blast and projectile + whirl from gs if you use it or leap from mace/shield. Of course most useful will be might stacking.
I guess that’s the reason people choose longbow over rifle. Higher damage, cc, combo field…

Rifle is ok, but it is only useful when you activate berserker stance. Standard burst is too much of a slow cast and 1,2,3 skills are useless, delivering close to no damage. 4 and 5 are great for kiting though. If there will be any changes made they should consider tweaking the rifle’s normal burst and make 1,2,3 useful.
Using gs+rifle you can stunlock many professions to death, but in longer encounters your berserker rage ends and rifle sucks again. To be honest I think that if you need ranged weapon longbow would be better than rifle even in builds not based on conditions.
Ok. Let’s say you are right and there is no elo hell, as you can easily carry your team out of bronze, but…
Doesn’t that mean you carry bunch of noobs out of rating they belong to? This is flawed logic or flawed system, as people who belong in that rating will be carried by skilled players without breaking a sweat. Please think before you post.
The main problem with current rating system is you get punished/awarded for the team effort while having no control of you team skill/composition.
Solution: Introduce smaller maps for 3v3 premades and start 5v5 premades as well. Now this is competitive play, organized team vs organized team instead of pug vs pug.
But as I see it now development is stuck on introducing more 5v5 maps instead of focusing on fixing the problems that haunt pvp.

As mentioned that won’t fix the balance issues. All professions are in desperate need of rebalancing, right now pvp devs got stuck in vicious circle of inventing mechanics to counter mechanics they invented previously, and this is at all not needed.
At the moment I am collecting hero points for the build and I must admit thief is a piece of kitten in pve. The content I soloed without any problems with my other characters seem to be to much for a thief. Everything hits me for 5k and my hp pool is only 12k.
I was gliding around maguuma and something one shotted me leaving my floating corpse between the branches of the jungle. I had to check the combat log to know what killed me (sniper one hit, how? no idea).
This is so pathetic, but I am almost finished so I don’t give up. So far it seems thief is most frustrating profession to play in pve. I don’t remember it being so weak when I leveled it few years ago.
Anyways thanks for your input, I’m decided to go with mara/berserker mix and see how it goes. If wvw will be too easy I still will have my gear to go full berserk, but I doubt that will happen, haha.
I was planning to play thief a little bit in wvw and was wondering about the stats. Do people go rather full mara, full zerker or mix them till you reach some crit/hp treshold?
I was thinking mara armor and rest berserker, but at the moment I have only access to exotic armor and weapons as I don’t want to waste gold on thief in case I wouldn’t like it (asc accesories are not a problem).
I also noticed people rather run d/p than d/d. Is there any particular reason for that or simply for shadow shot and daze? Or smoke combo field is superior to cloak and dagger? I think in the end I will try both anyways, was just wondering.
Imo, being good at too many things in the same build setup ruins pvp. […] gearing as a glass canon but having high damage mitigation/healing through incredibly high boon uptime is also unfair.
I know what you mean. The other day I tried longbow+mace/shield warrior and it is stupidly incredible. Big aoe, high damage and godlike mitigation trough block and perma invulnerability. In my opinion such builds destroy any balance there is left in this game.
I also agree with counters to counters to counters and power creep. If anet is planning on launching another expansion they will kill pvp completely.
I was wondering what in opinion of others ruins the pvp experience, in spvp and wvw as well.
In my opinion:
1. Any skill that gives invulnerability- this is a broken mechanic by design. I think it is implemented due to laziness regarding balancing (some classes have it, others don’t).
2. Perma stability. In my opinion stun breaks are enough, excessive cc also shouldn’t be present. I think excessive cc is what forced anet to implement stability in the first place.
3. Troll builds.
4. Lack of counters to some mechanics.
5. Third party healing.
With healing in hot I am disappointed in general, this was supposed not to be a clone of wow, yet is slowly getting there.
I was also wondering if there is any further balancing planned, as I recently read the professions are considered balanced at the moment as of season 5 (hahaha). If it is planned how would it look like and what in opinion of developers are the main issues that need addressing and how do they plan on addressing them.
Anet doesn’t know how to make good rewards for playing. In wow I received exclusive mount for my performance in arena, I was flying around and people knew I was the kitten.

I dont see the fault in the system, to me it seems like its supposed to be, if youre better than the division youre in, you will stomp and play with your opponents like they are kids and move up.

That is great news, it means players only pvping for rewards will be slowly disappearing from now on. You’ll end up back with mostly pvp players as the season progresses. I think it is the right call to have the main seasonal reward be obtainable so early in the season.
Your enthusiasm is premature. Look at how many people plays pvp. Now think about what will happen if people will massively stop playing ranked pvp matches. You either will be stack in queue for much longer than you are now and disparity between players’ skill level will be much higher than it is.
Also assuming everyone who plays pvp is a super pvper is wrong and illogical. Another thing is there are many people who are good at pvp and don’t care about ranked at all.
I’m absolutely grateful for it, too. Get the PvE players out of PvP faster so they can’t impact games. It’s obvious that 90% of them have no desire to actually PvP or they wouldn’t leave immediately after getting their 1200 shards, so there’s no reason to encourage them to play a game mode that they don’t actually have any interest in.
Same as above. And I am not a pve player, actually I don’t play pve at all, I play unranked mostly and wvw. I actually needed the gear for wvw, as playing wvw you have no possibility to obtain that kind of equipment.
If you enjoyed this experience then keep playing pvp (and welcome aboard), otherwise I suggest you to farm FOTM for ascended armor, it’s faster than wait the next pvp season’s reward. And spent your currency only after you get the 6th piece of armor (luckily the expensive one).

Fractals are kind of meh and when I read they put all the focus into fractals right now I was very disappointed.
It is really pity anet doesn’t care about wvw at all. They could improve a lot in there, right now amount of people playing wvw is shirnking really fast.
I think a lot of players don’t have fun in this game’s pvp some still stay some leave. The damage avoidance and mobility + troll builds are huge and not fun to play against. You play/trying to work hard pressing keys with no results and your skills are avoided most of the time by stupid damage avoiding mechanic.
I think you are right. When the game came out in August 2012 I started playing around October/December. In my opinion the changes they started to introduce negatively affected pvp. I remember few years ago when there were few op builds, but basically every profession was as viable as the others. Now it is all about stacking guardians and warriors. spvp is totally out of balance at the moment. I think teamfights were more dynamic, and now they are kind of dull. Perma stability, perma immortality… how comes you get auto invulnerability from traits? You don’t even have to use the skill/push the buttons.
Then I had a break from gw, came back to check hot and I would say anet goes in wrong direction, but for 20 bucks I don’t have much regrets for buying it.
Anyways, remember that all I wrote in here is my personal opinion and you have all the right not to share the same views I do. I think this often causes misunderstanding and frustration on one of the sides.

As I finally got all the shards I needed, I see completely no point to keep on playing ranked. Started at around 850 rating, got it to around 950, fell down almost to 800, then got it almost to 1050 and now I am 1010 and I guess I lost my motivation.
As for experience it was a really horrible one, so much hatred, kitten-talking, that entire system of making teams itself. But yeah, big part of the community is horrible.
As I understand now next time I will be able to get more shards is next season right? When will that be? Around march?

Check the entire leaderboard, there are people in top 100 with 10 matches played and some of them are 50/50 w/l ratio.
But yeah, every one will repeat the mantra:
“they were playing against harder opponents than you” xD
I agree, it should require team effort, but then teamplay =/= spvp.
If they made it on purpose it was really stupid decision that makes no sense.
If they made it by accident I hope they will fix it.
I wonder if we will hear something from devs regarding this situation.
I personally plan to farm what I can and I am finished with ranked, as I see no point to participate in it. If more people will do the same in a week or so there will be almost no one playing ranked and then you will see the true face of that flawed mmr system.
Rewards and losing rating is not a problem in my opinion. The problem is you have no control over composition of your team whatsoever, so in the end you are actually being rewarded/punished for other people, meanwhile your theoretical input to that is only 20%. That is the biggest issue with the current system, say whatever you are but when you are soloqueuing you play with pug and they can have gosu skills or be total noobs.
I would allow for premades of 2 players, 3 players and 5 players. Make them compete against each other and soloqueuers against each other. I don’t remember WAR! too much, but I think they had similar system.
Anyways I think the amount of players who play pvp is still too low to make such changes. They should rather think about making smaller maps for teams of 3 for example and allow for creation of arena teams just like it was in wow.
Everybody would be happy, you join with people you know and you progress together, everyone knows his role and so on. You would only have to forbid switching professions after starting the match as the entire system would be pointless with that.
Or maybe they could actually make thief useful class instead of jumping around the map stealing bases and occasionally helping in teamfights?
I would say playing thief is most exhausting. I played with a thief yesterday who was doing his job really great, awesome mobility, stealing bases 1v1 and supporting us in teamfights when there was a need for that. I would say he had really high map awareness and knew his kitten, yet people who seem to fail to understand the game mechanics kept on insulting him anyways over doing nothing else then running around the map stealing bases.
I thought the daredevil build will change things a little bit but to be honest so far I haven’t seen any of them in ranked.
And yes, having three thieves might mean instant loss but I believe you could still pull it through playing some unorthodox strategy based on constantly stealing far and close, meanwhile harassing mid.

Yes, I know, I haven’t said that you do. Maybe try to read and understand next time. I slowly carry myself up the rating playing warrior and I have no problem with that, even though in my opinion system is still horrible.
From my perspective DH are op because of their heal and perma block, if you can counter that they are easy peasy.
Traps are easily avoidable. The only problem are DH with chain pull as it ignores obstacles and can pull you even if if you are out of view.
The easiest way to kill a meditrapper is to kite him away from the traps. But I don’t know, as a warrior I have block ignore which pretty much melts DHs down. As a matter of fact guardians often call me noob and put me on ignore when I kill them, hahaha, great game.

Oops you forgot head butt is a melee skill only given a short range since we’re playing a game with game physics.

No, he is not because you don’t understand the problem.
The range on head butt is 300, but even if your enemy is 50 away from you and someone pushes him back when you cast head butt you are send flying forward chasing that enemy. Do you understand that now? You are right, it is head butt and should work in melee range, it shouldn’t send you flying forward chasing your enemy that is already 1200 yards away from you and when you are locked in head butt animation you cannot cancel it. Please try to understand and correct your logic accordingly to the situation, because what you say right now about head butt’s melee range is completely irrelevant to what I have written.
So when are we getting 1200 range Headbutt??

If your team doesn’t cooperate or gets wrecked by an engineer attacking him 3v1 there is really not much you can do. You cannot carry 1v5, if you want to try that play thief and keep on recaping empty points. To carry you need at least 3 people with brain on your team.
Try to duoqueue with a friend playing professions/builds that complement each other. BTW Ranked would be so much better if they would allow to join as premade of 3 and of 5.
If you want to solo carry entire game go guardian, but even guard is weak if your opponents have a tiny idea of what to do, so in most cases it will still depend on your luck.
Just focus on one build, play the best you can and hope for the best, eventually you will get out of bronze. If you think some particular build will help you with that it won’t because you are still susceptible to skilled enemies.
The current system is completely broken, it’s not like in lol where everyone has a particular role to fulfill and if you excel at yours you significantly increase chances for win. In gw this is more like a roulette or tossing a coin.
Stat swap works on all ascended armor/weapons except for sPvP skinned.
You can change stats on crafted ascended? I thought only on dropped ones.
Generally what I can tell you is: if you have a win streak and then you lose the loss of rating is massive. The best is to win 2 games, lose 1, win 2, lose 1, and so on.
Don’t get me started on warrior’s rush and its pathing issues.
Hmm, that’s sad. I wonder if they ever bring sup warrior back. I mostly thought about it to cleanse conditions and provide some utility, as condi bomb seems to be a problem sometimes.
